This has been a great, reliable little router. We generally have 4-8 devices on it at a given time in our two bedroom, single story apartment. It's not quite as fast as Ethernet, but the speed drop is pretty unnoticeable most of the time, even with streaming video. Would definitely recommend this product.

In making the WNR2000, Netgear has been ambitious; creating a low-cost, reliable wireless router that provides several operating modes; working as a standard wired router, as an advanced wireless base station using the cutting-edge wireless `N' standard while maintaining backwards compatibility to the tried-and-true 802.11-g standard. Netgear bundles all this together with simple setup, control and security and adds convenience features that make it something special.Pros and consPros: Very good speedRobust wireless connectionLaughably easy setupVery easy to secureSimple, web-page-based controlsThe incredible off-switchCons: Non-finalized standard for full, 802.11-n performanceGetting the full, extraordinary, `N' standard speed and range requires additional equipmentThe fun stuffSetupI have setup wired networks but I had no prior experience in setting up a wireless one. I had no trouble setting up the WNR2000.Installing the WNR2000 requires that you install its control software on at least one computer in your network to control and use the router *before* you hook up the unit. This is the only thing you have to worry about and it is simplicity itself: if you can read and move your hands, you can do it, but Netgear has taken the trouble of taping over the connectors with a warning label for those who are feeling too frisky to follow instructions that day.It went surprisingly well. As I was installing it, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop but it never did. The installation really was a matter of following directions that boiled down to: "insert disk, install software, attach router and turn it on." I followed the steps and, presto, it was up and running. There was an uncomfortable moment when I found that my test model had come without a paper manual (I needed an initial username and password) and I experienced about 30 seconds of `uh-oh' before I went to Netgear's website and downloaded the PDF of the manual. If you *do* feel that frisky and get tangled up, Netgear provides help-line numbers. How good are their support-lines? I have no idea: The setup was too easy for me to need them.ControlLike all routers I've had experience with, the WNR2000 uses a, web browser-based control system. You type an address into your web browser and a page opens on your machine that handles the router's controls. The webpage's menus give you the options you need for upgrades security and control. Here, there was one problem: giving the router a new password was there in the menus, but I couldn't change my username, big deal. After the initial setup, menus take you through security where you can limit user access to offensive websites and establish the degree of security that makes you comfortable. This, too, is simple with options that go from, `we're open: come on down!!" to 128-bit paranoia.Speed and rangeThe Netgear WNR2000 is fast. Even without going the full 802.11-n route, the unit seemed, `felt,' faster in its 100Mb/s wired mode than my own router. During the late-night hours of optimum internet access, pages sometimes screamed onto the screen. I was very surprised by the unit's performance.Much the same thing was true even when I reconfigured the network and ran the unit through my original router. It still seemed that I had very good speed even though it was no longer running directly off the cable modem: strange but true. I have no idea why this is so.Its wireless performance was no less impressive. Wireless routers function best (and, I would bet, are usually tested) across big expanses of open air with unobstructed line of sight between receivers--in other words, in situations where you could shine a laser-pointer from the router to whatever it's attached to. That isn't how things work in the real world. In the real world, things get in the way. I live on the second floor of an apartment building. I went downstairs and out the door and connected; fine and dandy. That would have been enough for everything that I do, but then I went across the avenue--that is, across four lanes of traffic--and I was still connected. This was jaw-dropping. The signal was diminished, yes, but not only was I standing a good seventy to eighty feet distant, but the direct line-of-sight between my ipod and the router now pointed through two layers of brick wall! Suffice it to say that I was again impressed. The two buttonsThe Netgear WNR2000 has two buttons on it, one on the front and another on the back. The first is a connect button that the documentation says allows you to connect new machines to the network by sending them a timed invitation from the router. Sounds great, but doing things manually works fine and gives you both control and understanding. I didn't bother trying to figure it out.The second button is very, very, very cool: it's an off switch, as in `wow! It's an off switch!!' It is also proof positive that Netgear has thought outside the box when designing the WNR2000.Routers are designed to go up and be left running f

It's not that the router sucks - the router works fine. But this is a >VPN< router with ZERO netgear support for VPN. You cannot find the VPN client software on the website - it's a dead link. After locating the client software there's no serial number or "buy" option - it's a dead link. I'm currently on hold for 20 minutes with tech support from an off-shore call center with unintelligble english. Netgear is clearly not serious about their customer service. Buy Linksys.

My Nephew has this so we thought we would buy this also. I just love it. Hurray we are wireless now and it looks great next to our computer. I love that it has a button to restart if the net goes off. There are times that happens but so far only once and we have had it for two months now. I called Netgear because I was not sure how to hook it up and they were great. They even helped me with my laptop and wireless printer. We like the colored lights on the sides so it's easy to tell when the net is up. It has a soft blue light in the center, we love the looks of that and plenty of ports if we needed them, it's light weight and so easy to move. We just popped the feet on it and it stands easily. The color is pretty it looks like white leather. We are delighted with the service and would recommend this to anyone who wants something good looking on there desk.

So far so good. We gave up on CenturyLink (Qwest) and this refurbished DGN2000 model is working better than any of their recommended $90 to $150 modems and/or tech support. One CAUTION . . . ours did not come with a "Smart Wizard CD" which contains the instruction manual and "follow the screen" set-up process. You'll have to go online, download, then enter modem settings through 192.168.0.1. which I did not find difficult. Again, so far so good.

If you're looking for the convenience of a Wireless-N router and DSL modem in one box, the Netgear DGND3300 might seem like a fine choice. This device is easy to set up, is extremely user-configurable, and looks really cool sitting near your computer. Wireless range was very good, and I was able to get all my wireless devices connected to it without a problem. I was extremely (five stars) pleased with it until the tenth month of ownership, when it abruptly quit working. It still powered up, and the router functions still worked, but the internal DSL modem had completely failed."No problem," I thought, after confirming with another DSL modem that my internet connection was working properly, "I have a one year warranty; I'll get an RMA and send it to Netgear for repair or replacement."Oh boy, was I mistaken. You see, Netgear's one year warranty only covers hardware, not tech support or software. When I spoke to the tech in the overseas call center, he claimed that the product was not defective, that there was a "simple communications problem" and that he could fix it -- for $69.99, the cost of six months of phone tech support. In fact, he refused to even start the troubleshooting process that is required before they will issue an RMA until I paid the $70 fee. Netgear has free e-mail support, but you cannot get an RMA through it, only via phone support. Net result is that the one year warranty is meaningless once you're past the 90 day free tech support limit unless you want to pay them a substantial amount of money.Incidentally, I've been using modems since the Hayes Smartmodem 1200 days, and I know the difference between a "simple communication problem" and broken equipment. The modem part of this modem/router is dead. It is deceased. It is an ex-modem, and unless I can convince Netgear to send me new or refurbished one to replace it, I will no longer be purchasing Netgear products for either my home or my business. I am aware that products sometimes fail, but I will not do business with a company that deliberately misleads me about their warranties.

I get reliable connections and phenomenal range for all my Android devices (3), wi-fi laptop and Roku HD Player and Dish Hopper DVR.No complaints whatsoever.

This is a great router and is easy to set up out of the box. These people complaining about the fact that it does not come with a CD seem to not notice that it is REFURBISHED. Even beyond that, you do not need the software to set it up. You plug the cable from your modem(or other router)into the wan port then power it on. Type in [...] in your browser, default login and password is admin/password. Make your changes and it's running. The software and manuals are available on netgears web site. If it is that difficult for you to set up you need to find someone to help you. This thing is a piece of cake.

I have been pleasantly surprised with this extender. My WNDR3700 is in the basement next to a large metal work bench and under a lot of metal piping. All of this interference creates a deadzone on the other side of the first floor in the two bedrooms. The house is wired, but this is really annoying for iPads and laptops. I was considering running some longer CAT5e and putting the router in the middle of the basement on a wall, but I tried this extender first. It's a much more expensive solution than $6/50' of CAT5e (monoprice.com), but I also wanted to extend the WiFi out into the backyard. I plugged the WN3000RP into the wall, waited for the green ready light, pressed the WPS button on the WNDR3700, held down the WPS button on the WN3000RP, and the connection was made. I had a new network named MySSID_EXT with the same security and passphrase.I tested it out with INSSID on my laptop and my WiFi Analyzer app on my phone. I wandered the house checking the signals. In the bedroom I had a very weak signal from the router(or no signal)and an excellent signal from the extender. In the backyard, I had no signal from the router and a still excellent signal from the extender. Speed tests showed no real difference in speed, but Netgear says you should expect some reduction in speed. It could impact video streaming or file sharing, but I haven't noticed any issues.I would really like to see an extender like this that supports 5Ghz, but 2.4 is just fine for what I needed. I also don't have a lot of other networks nearby. The house is 1,700 sq. feet on the first floor and the extender provides a signal everywhere. The backyard is fairly small, but I can go about 75' to my patio and still have an excellent signal (that's about 140' from the extender through a wall. The extender is placed at the edge of the deadzone, as Netgear says it should be.

Well, I didn't buy this from here, but it finally died. I got it in 2007 and it worked well, then this year it started dropping the internet. I used a Siemens Cable Modem/Router/Wireless Access Port for over 8 years but had to 'put it to pasture' when I got Time Warner's telephone service and had to use their modem.I added this router when my computers/IP Cam started multiplying on me and I needed more wired ports. This was the only All-in-One at the time that had more than 4 ports. (yes I could have used a switch/hub but how many pieces of equipment do you want laying around)At first I thought my ISP was having issues when it would drop the 'net I would reset their modem and unplug my router (no power switch) wait, plug in and go for another month. Then more and more I would lose the 'net and I found if I just plugged a computer into the modem, everything was fine. So from then on I would just unplug the router and it would work for a bit longer 3-4 weeks and lose the 'net again. When I lost the 'net again, this time I reset the router (Which sucked, because I forgot to save the settings and port forwarding was a b&^cH) and that brought the 'net back, but once again, only for a few weeks. The outages were starting to be closer together, so I went to Netgear's site and grabbed the firmware (same version, no update) and I flashed the router. This didn't make much difference in time between outages.Last Friday night, I totally lost the Internet, no amount of unplugging, resetting, flashing would bring it back to life. I could go to the configuration page 192.168.0.1 and play all day with the settings, reset the router etc. but no 'net.I finally popped to a store (can't wait for mail order when you have no net!) and bought this;Belkin N1 Vision Wireless Router (F5D8232-4) I think it's the same, I'll have to check when I get home...And the Belkin is working fine at the moment. I have it set to WEP (Yes I know WAP is better blah blah, I don't care). WEP is just fine, it keeps people from accidentally connecting to me and people don't just drive by my place it's not that easy to do. And the neighbors in the range of my N1 frankly probably don't care. I do let a neighbor in front of me use the wireless and he said my old Netgear gave him 3 bars and this new Belkin gives him 5 bars and lets his iphone connect now.Pros;8 Ports!Strong metal boxFair range. in my bungalow, I never had a 'bar' problem, but my neighbor only got 3 bars, new router gives him 5Cons;It broke after 3'ish years. 3 years? Not including my Siemens router that ran solid for 8 years, I have 2 others that work just fine (Linksys and Zoom?)No off switch - sometimes you just gotta turn 'em off

I bought this router as to replace a D-Link 150 that failed within a week of operation. So far the Netgear 150 functions fine. For some reason, this router works better with all my laptops when the router is horizontal rather than vertical. Not sure of the reason. Possibly because the router, in the vertical position, picks up less noise from nearby plug in switching power supplies for the cable modem and the OBI 100. One of my laptops can alternate between two operating systems, (both Linux) with one wireless driver more sensitive to noise than the other and the more robust one connected with the router in the vertical connection whereas the more sensitive one did not. After placing the router horizontally all laptops connected without any problems. One feature which I like is that the Netgear Router has a push button in the back to switch of the wireless signal , with the 4 LAN ports remaining functionalI prefer to do electronic banking with the wireless off (never mind that WAP2 is supposed to be secure) running a cat 5 cable from one of the routers LAN ports to my laptop.

My internal adapter fried after two weeks into a three week trip. Like some others who have reviewed this, I got it at Staples for about $26. The mini CD install was quick and easy and the adapter went right to work finding the best available connection. Of course, that's usually the motel's complimentary wireless but I'm posting this from a Hampton Inn via a Borders connection from a bookstore a couple of blocks away. This should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with the wireless service at the Hilton family of hotels. If this happens to you, don't forget to go into Device Manager and disable the internal adapter.

I got this modem as a last-ditch effort to fix some speed problems with my ISP, as well as to upgrade to a wireless-n network. The signal strength is fantastic, the setup could not have been simpler, and our download speeds improved markedly over the old modem (which was probably a piece of junk). To be clear, this modem probably won't improve most people's speeds, but the reason we saw an improvement was because we replaced an old, low-quality, and probably defective modem with this one, which works perfectly. For customers in the U.S. this is a good modem for the price. Canadian customers will have to deal with a much higher price, but if you can get it on sale I highly recommend it.

I purchased this unit secondhand for a fraction of the price. Initially, it worked well! I had great speed (close to my ISPs) limit. Like other reviewers, I noticed that it ran hot. I've designed electronics in the past, so I was REALLY suspicious, generally, if it's hot on the outside, it's probably doing damage on the inside. I noticed that the sticker on the back was discolored with brown edges which was probably due to heat. I didn't think much of it until today, when my connection suddenly slowed down to a crawling pace. Here's the workaround I came up with...Usually, heating issues are resolved with a heatsink. If you've ever opened up a computer case, you've probably seen it; it's that big ol' hunk of aluminum with a fan on it. So I figured, why not make my own heatsink out of a sheet of aluminum? In order to do that, I took the unit apart by unscrewing it. The screws can be found underneath the legs which can be taken off by hand. I used the circuit-board as a template for where to drill in the sheet metal. After drilling, I bent the sheet metal at one end so that it was L shaped, when viewed from the side so that the unit could stand up; I figured it'd be better for the unit to stand to improve ventilation. Lastly, I found longer, substitute screws to screw everything back together. Note that the heatsink is now on the back of the unit. It's not as close to the components as I'd like, but it's a quick work around. With luck, this'll be all that I need to do to keep the unit working; otherwise, I'll update if I had to replace it.

I purchased my WNR3500L router because it had a 1 year warranty. Router did not get set up with set up disc. I spent over 4 hours on the phone with technical support having them tell me there was a software problem which they were trying to fix and could not. Tech support representatives did not speak English well and it was very difficult to understand them. I attempted to escalate case to a supervisor which the representative would not do for me. I had to call back a second time to speak to a supervisor who could also not get it to work. Next morning I exchanged the router at the store and it worked right away. (So much for it being a software problem!) I did need to call technical support to get help with security settings which took about another 45 minutes. The router worked well for 4 months then stopped working. I called technical support who told me once again I had a software problem and that I would have to pay $69 for a 6 month service contract or $99 for a one year service contract to receive help. I complained that the router came with a 1 year warranty. They told me that the warranty was only on the hardware not the software. I explained that after only 4 months they wanted to charge me more for a service contract than I paid for the router. I attempted to escalate my situation to supervisors and Customer service to no avail or satisfaction. The next morning I purchased a Cisco Linksys which I was able to get set up in 10 minutes!

Owned this router for 3 years!Guess I am a lucky customer; as this router has poor ratings. I like mine!I have the interest & $ to buy the best hardware, so I was thinking of buying a "better" router. Instead, I bought two ASUS PCI- wireless adapters capable of 300 Mbps. Now, I do not use the CAT-5 cable to router ports.I run wireless mode to 2 desktops and occasional laptop. My primary desktop in 2 ft. from the router. It runs at 270 Mbps; cable was 130 Mbps. The other PC, one floor down, runs at 270 Mbps, as I also swopped out the PCI adapter for the same ASUS device.Bought the 2 ASUS on sale for $35. ea. free ship.So try being positive & install an excellent wireless adapter & stop faulting the Netgear modem/router.Hot, so what. I don't use it to cook.Works so well I will wait for my ISP to provide the speed for the newer 450 Mbps speeds; then those routers will drop in cost.Best to you all,Jim

Everytime I purchase a product, my biggest concern will always be - does it work as advertised? And if it doesn't, how does the company (including customer support) address the issues? I would advise that before you buy one, to check not only customer reviews but also their feedback in dealing with the company's customer support area. Of course you cannot please every customer and not everyone has the same technical aptitude in using a product, but reading reviews regarding reliability of the product itself and how the company is addressing it in general is always a great idea. For the physical look of the product, I'm happy with the direction Netgear is going - a slim, vertical product like a book-end rather than the usual horizontal arrangement where you end up stacking all other components on top of each other. This design is smarter for a product that has no external antenna.(As comparison, I have been using an Apple AirPort Extreme router also with an internal antenna and I elevate it on higher ground in order to get better coverage across the home. Although I have had no problems with the wireless coverage of the Apple Base Station, I would assume this uses a lot more power to provide a stronger signal). With Netgear WNR2000, the vertical setup allows a bit more wireless coverage and hopefully less power. Case in point the product has gone green as well and even includes a power switch.Anyway, the router comes with the power supply, a snap-on stand for that vertical arrangement, an ethernet cable to get you hooked up to your modem, and a CD that contains the Smart Wizard installer for Windows users.Rather than the usual generic blinking lights, the front display has an etched out graphic from top to bottom indicating that there is power, an internet connection has been established, a wireless connection has been established, a wired ethernet port is connected, and a WPS-capable device is connected. The back panel has (again from top to bottom) a reset switch, the four ethernet ports (LAN), a ethernet WAN port to connect to the modem, a power button to finally allow you to shut down completely the device, and the power outlet. It takes minutes to set up and connect especially if you've opted to use the Smart Wizard installation CD. Otherwise, from a Mac user perspective it's easy to get up and running by connecting to the router via your favourite browser (Safari, Firefox, etc). You simply enter the supplied user name and generic password (change the password so no one can hack into your system and change the settings soon enough).Once inside, the router checks for updated firmware (which I strongly suggest getting the latest) and after an update you can now continue to adjust settings as needed. If you don't know what settings to use, I would suggest the default first until you know how to enhance performance or fix a problem.PROS:1. Easy set up and configuration right out of the box2. Sleek, simple and elegant design3. Respectable price to obtain Wireless-N performance4. No protruding and unsightly plastic antenna sticking out that looks like an old TV box5. Automatic Firmware upgrade checking6. Energy Star Partner / Netgear Green productCONS:1. 2 internal antennas (versus 8 internal antennas for the RangeMax line)2. NO GIGABIT wired ethernet connection. For a little bit more, you can get the WNR3500 with greater wireless coverage and faster wired speed (if your computer supports it, of course)3. Hit and miss quality and longevity per user feedback here and elsewhere4. Hit and miss customer support including attitude and price for after-sales warranty service5. Should already be half-price due to the existence of a better Netgear RangeMax product line6. A wireless printer support via USB port would be niceBOTTOMLINE:If you're only just investing in a Wireless-N router, I would get the RangeMax WNR3500 version for just a little bit more. If you're shady about reliability and customer service, I would look into Belkin reliability as well. Another more expensive option, I haven't actually had any problem with my Apple AirPort Extreme even including my patronizing their previous units. Reliability, longevity and customer support is on par with a company that cares as well as protects their product and its image. (Your mileage will of course vary depending on the customer personnel handling your call that day). For overall reliability and product longevity, I would honestly recommend an Apple Extreme Base Station. However, for a solid PC user who constantly is on the edge of technology and tweaks the performance then a Netgear or Belkin is best.As for this Netgear WNR2000, if this is within your budget and intend to operate it on a relatively small or wide-open space then I can't argue with the price.I would actually give 2 stars for an average feature and performance including a poor and outdated 10/100 ethernet feature as well as no wireless USB printer port. But the neat design, energy-effic

We got this router with our Cox internet bundle, and it has been a disaster. The WNR1000 has extremely poor range, and is not suitable for anything larger than about 700 sq ft. The router also drops connections almost daily, requiring frequent reboots. This is unacceptably bad performance compared to similarly priced routers from Cisco and even Belkin that I have used.

I was looking to upgrade my old 2wire DSL modem/wireless router, and this model had all the right specs for me. Of particular interest was the Network attached storage, and the Live Parental Controls offered via OpenDNS. Unfortunately, the fact that this model wouldn't cooperate with my ATT DSL for more than a few hours at a time was a deal breaker.Kudos to Netgear, they provided the ATT (as well as other DSL provider) phone numbers to call to get my username/password for my DSL account. I hadn't changed it for over 6 years, and a 20 minute phone call with ATT got me all the info I needed to get the Netgear router setup. Their wizard setup the PPPoE account and settings without any problems, and I was up and running with internet after about 45 minutes. Then the problems started. I've been a user of OpenDNS for a while, so I'm familiar with their settings. I followed the LPC guidelines, and basically set the default filtering level to "high" which blocks a lot of stuff (Yahoo email, YIM, etc.). I then created two bypass accounts; one for "Grownups" and one for "Kids," and installed the Netgear/OpenDNS client on all the windows machines in the house. But no matter how many times we re-booted the winXP or win7 machines, no matter how many times I re-logged into the Netgear/OpenDNS client as a "Grownup" the default filter overrode the bypass, and I couldn't get anywhere.Needless to say my wife was pretty upset after a couple of hours of not being able to read the NYTimes, or get to pretty much anything. I backed down the OpenDNS filter to "Moderate" or "Low" (can't recall anymore, I changed it enough times) and we had internet for the rest of the evening. Then I woke up the next morning, and the internet connection was dead. Hmm, I thought. That's weird. It was working okay last night. So I tried all the standard diagnostics. Looked at all the lights on the front of the router. Wireless was fine. DSL connection was fine, Internet light was red. I tried various ways to get the Router to re-login to the ATT internet account. I even got it connected about 10 times, but each time it would lose the connection, drop it's IP address, and turn the Internet light red after anywhere from 1 minute to 5 minutes.I checked with ATT, and they didn't find anything wrong on their end, so I pulled the Netgear out, put my old 2Wire back in place, and we were back up in running. If anyone can recommend a device that has all these features, but actually works with an ATT (formerly SBCGlobal / PacBell) DSL line reliably, then please let me know. Otherwise, I guess I'll look into NAS storage, and some other way to restrict my kids to homework-internet from 3pm-7pm.

I've had the router for six months. The router started loosing all of the wireless attached devices periodically. so much for wireless printing. After a couple of reboots, it usually came back. Enter the firmware upgrade. I thought this might solve the problem. After the firmware upgrade which installed perfectly, things started to get really ugly. The new administration client is pretty, but I can't log out. The computer I logged into the admin client with can only go to the admin client. You can't log out, no matter what web address I put in. It always returns to the admin client. The wireless internet no longer works, but the wired internet access works fine. Go figure. I had to go to back to my old wireless router after hours of frustration. The older model works fine. Netgear needs to get it's act together on firmware upgrades. So much for quality control. This is totally unacceptable! DO NOT DO THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE!

I've been struggling with this modem for over a year, and it has finally gotten so bad that I've had to convince my company to get something else. Wifi drops erratically, and at best it has poor signal strength. Also, this thing gets hot enough to cook eggs on! I have taken to using a small fan blowing on it in an attempt to keep it cool.I have a Netgear router on my home network, and it has worked well for a long time. I can't understand how they could allow a piece of junk like this to go out with their name on it.

I recieved the router on time - Amazon prime delivery is always on time. The router was packed with the plastic like it was brand new. I set it up and was running it on my network within 5 minutes. It works flawlessly. I have several Netgear routers - they are a great buy.

Item seems fine, working for a few weeks without problems. Probably worth what I paid for it. Replaced a Belkin that I was having to reset every day. The signal of this unit is a little weaker than the Belkin (the computer is showing 1 less bar through out most of the house) perhaps because the Belkin had external antennas. I knew it would be refurbished, but I was a little surprised at how scratched up the case is. A little irritated that it came with no manual or quick start guide. Or maybe something that at least says what the default username/password is so that I can see the help that is part of the built-in WEB interface. Even a highly abbreviated quick start guide would have been nice. But instead they have a small slip of paper saying to go to the Netgear WEB site for manuals and documentation. The URL was NOT specific to the product, just the general Netgear WEB site. Had to find 'downloads' in the support section, find the product and product version (there are 3 manuals for 3 different versions). But the bigger problem is that I bought the router so that I could get ONTO the internet. So in order to get the manual I had to somewhat jerry-rig my computer to a hard line coming out of my modem, and then undo it once I got the manual. Would be helpful if they would include just a 1 page, perhaps double-sided, quick start guide.
