Don't buy Netgear! I've had problems with their product before but was talked into buying the DGN1000. The connection is good when it works, but it rarely works. Internet drops frequently and won't connect unless you let the router sit for hours. I've had it a week and have been able to use it for about 2 hours total. I tried switching channels, upgrading the firmware, upgrading my drivers, changing channels, and etc with no avail. She's going back to the store, this junk is made in china.

My NETGEAR WNR3500 Wireless-N Gigabit router works well but I've had some quality issues. Namely, the wireless part stopped working. The installation was easy and I was up and running within a half hour (I'm no IT expert). Purchased this router primarily for the Gigabit LAN ports gaming (Xbox360) and that works great. I also have four wireless devises (two laptops, two iPods); and, athough the wireless part of this router was an afterthought (couldn't readily find a gigabit wired router) I really appreciated the wireless g to n upgrade once I started to use it.That is, until it stopped working. After five weeks the wireless part wouldn't push data. Wired ports were fine, unaffected. But the wireless side wouldn't work. The router did its "handshake" with the devices and the devices recognized the router and said they were connected; but, the router wouldn't move any data. The devices worked on other wireless networks (work, parent's house, school) so it wasn't a device problem. Default settings were always used, unchanged out of the box.I bought this at Best Buy and they swapped it with no issues. Replacement is back up and running fine now. Based on the reviews here it seems that this router has had lots of issues and hasn't been fool proof.

Replaced a five year old Netgear router with this model. Throughput went from 5 mb/s to 9 mb/s. I've had it up and running for little more than a month and have had no trouble whatsoever. I got this router for 39.99 around the beginning of March 2010. I've noticed the price seems to fluctuate so if you have the luxury of waiting, keep checking back for a lower price. If you need something right now, then spend a few extra bucks and get this router. Even at $50.00, it's a phenomenal deal.UPDATE 08/12/2011After approximately 1 1/2 years this router is still going strong. It's on 24/7. It's connected to my desktop and vonage via wired Ethernet ports. I use the wireless to stream Netflix to my Roku device.I'm surprised by all the negative reviews that seem to have cropped up recently. The other thing that strikes me as odd is that most of the negative reviews are from people who were not verified purchasers. If you receive this from your cable company, call the cable company and get a new one.To some degree this is a plug and play router. To fully utilize this device you'll need to have some knowledge of how routers work.

I bought this for my daughter's computer. It worked great when I first installed it but would not keep the computer on the internet unless I was actively using it. Every time I reboot the computer it takes me 20 minutes to reset and now it is not working at all. It is so worthless that I just ordered the linksys wireless -g usb adapter.

This device seems to be a good piece of equip. The problem is Netgear won't let you register it. Customer service says this item was manufactured over two years ago and is no longer considered a new item. They will therefore not register the item, no registration no customer service. Bottom line, seems like good stuff but unless you are a computer tech STAY AWAY.

I purchased this router for a simple home network. My 15 year old son set it up in minutes without any trouble at all. The router is in a spare bedroom on the second floor of a two story home, and signal is quite strong in the family room located in the basement of the house. We are running a hard wired desktop computer, two IPod touches and a PS3 game console through it at the same time. My son is playing games on the PS3, and I am playing counter strike at the same time on the desktop. No delays and no dropped connections. My daughter also bounces in and out on her IPod with ease. This is a great router and quite easy to set up! I would buy another without hesitation!

I've used this AP as a bridge.Setup was less than 5 min.I connected all my stereo system and PC into this bridge and it works great.I can easily stream movies and my kids just love it!Will recommend it to anyone.

Was provided with this DGN1000 as an "upgrade" with my broadband speed upgrade. I was having complaints from the off with all the household complaining of slow connection, very weak or no signal in some parts of the house, drop outs etc. After compliants to the BB provide thinking it was the upgraded connection. Following them making changes at their end slight improvement of the dropping connection but still very much worse that before the upgrade. In the end I put my trusty old Netgear DG834GT back on and perfect again. Hence my opinion of this router is that the wireless signal is very weak compared to the DG843GT and the connection is unreliable. I also had problems setting up WEP and one laptop would not connect at all without removing WEP the other three were Ok.I did upgrade to the latest firmware to no avail.Give this one a miss!

Download and read the quick setup guide from Netgear. It tells you most of the things you need to know to get it running out of the box. I set it up to act as a wireless bridge for a hardwired dvd and xbox. Beats buying wireless adaptors for those. The automatic management feature gives priority to streaming audio, video and VOIP without any manual setup necessary. I did manually assign a WPA key for secure wireless access by my laptop and computers, but I could have just used the one it defaulted to. The auto-link feature is great, push the buttons and they automatically create a secure connection with zero configuration time by the user. Range is defintely limited. I had set one as an access point in my basement and another on the opposite side of a modest sized home on the second floor and no way it would work - even after repositioning etc. Fortunately, I had a cable run to the ground floor, so I moved the access point there and was able to grab a connection without any problems. The router automatically checks for a bios upgrade when you first power up and login as admin - let it do the upgrade on your units BEFORE you configure them. Nice feature as I normally do this when I get new equipment in and it is a pain. It just takes a few minutes, and it downloads and then installs, just don't interrupt it and it works great. Total setup time on the kit from out of box to working, with bios updates and moving the access point, about 45 minutes.I would give it a solid 5 for what it does, except for the range issue. For me it was not a problem, but the range is limited.

Item came within the specified window. Set up was relatively easy. Slight scratches, nothing that is noticeable. Got some good speeds with it. I am very pleased and very impressed.

Purchased to replace old 2wire ATT DSL router. As a note, ATT (SBC Global) does not support non-2wire modems, that's another point of contention altogether.Performance: Sporadic internet access , unusable at times, speed ok when working, some sites work others don't, dropped packets.News: Just installed the latest firmware, released in August 2010. Netgear states that this firmware upgrade improves wireless connectivity. Looking forward to usable and available wireless, something I had taken for granted before this 4 month ordeal. (fingers crossed)

I bought this to connect a mac desktop to our wireless network.Although it states on the box it is 'mac compatible' what it neglects to mention is that the driver provided on the installation disk will not work with mac os. I attempt to download the driver from the netgear site from another computer and then I am informed that this is provided by a 3rd party for an additional 15 dollars.I will be returning this to the store today.

This is my 2nd NetGear Router, first was the Wireless N 2000. This is a serious upgrade, the speeds great. We have a desktop hardwired, and a laptop and PS3 connected wirelessly. I do a lot of online gaming (Madden, Red Dead) and we use the PS3 to connect to the Media server on the desktop for streaming digital movies/music. I have not experienced any connectivity issues for media or internet even while all three are connected. Setup is easy and logging into the admin is quick and efficient.

It was difficult to set up in part because of my own ignorance, and also due to there being no manual. Thankfully an AT&T associate was able to walk me through setting it up, and it is now functioning as intended. Now that it's up and running, I am pleased. I have my X Box connected via Ethernet and my computer via WIFI. All is well.

for a top contendin router, i sure with it has top contendin features. lots of ppl are installin 3rd party firmware... just to get more features.. .if the software is what's lackin, then why can't netgear do that for us... the payin customers

This is a great device to replace a laptop wireless card or give a desktop wireless access. The product was easy to install and the wizard quickly located my wireless router and allowed me to connect to it. The whole thing is quite hassle free. My signal is consistently strong since I started using it as a replacement for my internal wireless adapter for my laptop.The only issue I've had is that the adapter gets really hot and occasionally, after waking up from standby mode the laptop doesn't detect the usb wireless adapter. That may be an issue with my computer.Generally, the adapter is an inexpensive and useful product that does it's job satisfactorily.

I first got the Netgear WNDR3700. I chose this because it is much faster than the older 3300 version and a little bit faster than LinkSys WRT610N. I can't find the web site but one really good one did comparisons for different distances and thru walls and floors. The 3700 replaced a 2.4 Ghz D-Link G router. The D-Link was very complicated to set up a couple years ago but the Netgear following directions exactly on when to power on/off and disconnect, Netgear router was easy and worked first time. I picked the 3700 because it had 5 GHz. All this leads up to my choice for WNHDEB111. I bought the pair to use with my HDTV. It was tested to be faster than the powerline ethernet adapters. I used one WNHDEB111 as a bridge to a Panasonic Plasma G10 in the bedroom (thru 1 wall about 20 ft away) and used the other as a bridge to a Sony 46z5100 LCD in my living room (thru 1 wall about 45 ft away). Have streamed HD and regular movies from Netflix with no problems. Setup was also very easy. Directions aren't straight forward but once you understand that all one has to do is push a button on the B111 then push one on 3700, they automatically sync up. Easiest network setup I've ever had!

I am not computer challenged and it took hours to get this thing up and running on my windows xp computers. At first when I ran the CD install twice it said it couldn't connect because it said I'd entered the wrong ip, submask, or gateway etc.Rebooted my computer, put the CD in and when I hit set up, it immediately went to a firmware update installation - finally, it seemed I was up and running. But no.Windows xp would not validate my entry into my own network and wanted a WEP code although there is none on the device and none was apparent in the set up, just a password. Had to go online with an ethernet connection to follow instructions on the Netgear site for getting around the Windows security; which involved logging on to the routers configuration and creating a wep key.Then I had to create a new network in Windows and logon with that wep key. Voila! After at least 4 hours I was on!Not exactly a piece of cake to install. Don't understand all these easy installations you all speak of

The term range max is a joke and misleading. My house has a thin wooden ceiling. Every word and footstep comes through. The signal drops from 5 bars to 2 between the two levels.

I originally bought just one in order to add a 5GHz network to my existing G network. There are 30 different networks within range of my apartment, and trying to keep connected on the G network was almost impossible. This cleared up all the problems I was having, and has plenty of power to cover my 2-bedroom apartment with no problem.I added a second one in order to put my XBOX 360 up on the N network without having to pay MS a hundred bucks for their addon wireless adaptor. I also have a Media Center PC, so having two network ports on the back is a huge plus.Setting up the first was pretty straightfoward if you have any experience with wireless routers. Adding the second was even easier: hold down the button on the second for 10 seconds until the light flashes, then press the button on the first once to sync everything together. No other configuration was needed.I haven't yet had a dropped signal or trouble connecting after switching to 5GHz in my crowded apartment complex. It connects almost immediately, and streams HD videos wirelessly without any stuttering or buffering delays. Bonus: cheaper than the XBOX 360 N adaptor from MS, and WAY more useful.

Why no Zero Stars??A router should be easy. Plug it in, set it up, Done. Not here!!! Plug it in, set it up, Oops, it drops the dsl - Restart. Plug it in, set it up, oops the wireless is down again - Restart. Plug it in, set it up, Why can only 4 devices connect wirelessly, hmmmm, Oh well wireless is down again - Restart. Plug it in, set it up, now the kindle won't connect - Restart. Wireless down again?? Unplug - ReturnNotice there are more 1 star reviews than 5 star reviews? That says something

I have this router for about half a year now. It was working, not great but works. One night, I decided to turn it off. Since then, it was never the same, router only last for couple hrs initially and getting worse and worse. It just drop connections all of a sudden.I went thought Tech Support using e-mailThey asked me to change settings and upgraded firmware. It was completely wasting time. They do not even tell you how long the warranty is. I guess they do not want to replace the unit.My $15 dollar belkin was working better, at least it last for a week. I can not believe turn off power would cause this kind issue.

I have an older IBM laptop that required an internet card for access. The card was lost so the laptop was relegated to a pricey word processor and one-person card game! NetGear saved the day! Then I discovered I could also turn my second PC wireless as well--just plug it in and everyone became wireless.

Requirement: Entertainment Center in a room with no phone jack for my dsl modem - besides I wanted the modem to have a hard link to my computer downstairs. Solution: Wireless Bridge. Unfortunately, Wireless Bridges are not mainstream; but are expensive and have very mixed reviews. One recommended solution is to reconfigure an old Linksys WRT54G - mine was a version or two away from being compatible with the 3rd party Tomato firmware download required to turn it into a wireless bridge. Verdict: Even if you have a really old WRT54G, this solution is better, fast and far easier to install. With an ethernet hub, I retired my XBOX wireless whip and now have everything running through this networking kit: BluRay firmware downloads and online disk content, AV receiver uses Pandora and does firmware updates, TV uses infolink to popup weather and local news, streaming Windows Media Center and Netflix through my computer and XBOX Live connection... This is a really cool product!

I bought this to connect my WD HD TV Live to my dual band router for video streaming. It works very well. Performance is flawless. It streams my 1080P files perfectly.It lost a star do to set-up issues. I could not connect to device via it's IP. To date I still can't. I always set-up my networking equipment manually. I finally gave up used to automated set-up. That worked fine but I prefer to know the details of my installations. Other than that this is a top notch piece of hardware that I couldn't be happier with.

Excellent product, very easy to setup and use. Glad someone found how to make a device that will allow electronic devices that can only take ethernet connectiion but are far away from a Router and running a Cat5 Cable is not an option.I have Replay TV DVR that only takes ethernet cable to update TV Guide and due to this I was stuck with using this unit only at a location where I had access to ethernet cable, I bought the Netgear WNCE2001 and now I am able to use my Replay TV anywhere around the house.I also tried connecting this to a 24 port switch and was able to plug in devices into the switch and access internet...so in essence it made my 24 port switch into a 24 port wireless switch.

Worked great, I had to upgrade with latest firmware from Netgear site, but it is going great. Excellent chassis design, 8 ports which is good. 802.11g/WPA2 has been great. Overall recommend it

Call Netgear first and let them know where you live and who your ISP provider is and they will walk you very clearly through the setup of the DSL Modem to work with your ISP. Then call your ISP and they will finish up the setup and connect instructions. The unit works very reliably with good wireless signal strength throughout the house. I'm pleased.

I bought a Netgear DGN2000 at Staples and hooked it up. After 2 hours of messing around trying to get it going, I called Netgear support. The first time I got a girl from India that really didn't help, nor could I understand her very well. I called again and got a guy, I suppose also from India, but didn't ask this time. (I couldn't understand him well either.) Anyway he said I had to call Verizon... I did, Verizon said I had to call Netgear. I took it back and went to Wal-Mart and got an Actiontech GT704WGV. Never heard of it before but it says it's made specifically for Verizon. In fact I had to look to find the name Actiontech on it. Verizon is all over the box. It looks a little cheap, but I plugged it in, turned it on and it worked right out of the box with no hassle, no support calls at all, let alone two hour support calls to India. It was $20 cheaper too and I got four new dsl filters with it.I've had Netgear equiptment before and they are usually good quality, but there must have been something wrong with this one. I've been building, fixing and messing with computers for over 20 years, so it was not for lack of knowledge... Sorry Netgear, you don't get my vote on this one.

I did buy a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 after reading customer reviews. I could not install Tomato firmware. Its original firmware was too bad: the Internet connection dropped many time in an hour of operation.I swiched to NetGear N300 wireless router (WNR2000). The set up was very easy. It took twenty minutes then I could search the Internet, as well as networking.I'm really happy with it.Hope this router would be stable and last long.

My DSL modem is broken (cannot connect directly via PC to change settings) and I thought that buying a DSL modem + router would be a good savings, since stand-alone DSL modems cost almost as much as this unit.BIG MISTAKE!!! This thing is JUNK. My internet slowed to a crawl using this no matter how I tried to set it up. Called customer support multiple times and never got the speed to improve once!Eventually returned it and went back to using my broken modem. Even the broken modem was faster than this.

I appear to have a home network that seems to draw routers into a black hole. Netgear, Linksys, none seem to survive long against the wrath of my DSL modem. So when I decided to upgrade my network from a Linksys WRT54GL running DD-WRT to the Netgear WNR3500 I wasn't really suprised that it, either, couldn't quite handle my network. The setup is decent, and should hold for any normal internet user, rather unlike myself. I ended up continuing to use DD-WRT as the routing part of my solution, but I am more than happy to keep this Netgear inside to provide the Wireless N. I get a great signal all over the house, much stronger than the WRT54GL's, and definately faster speeds from N. The wifi is easy to set up, and I've never had a single disconnection problem, much unlike my experiences with a Netgear WNR314.As a tech geek I can't say I'd recommend this to another advanced user as something to build their network on. But I do appreciate the gigabit ports and the wireless networking of this device, so I could definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a simple wired or wireless solution in their home.

No offense to those that are techno-geeks, but I am not one. I bought this router to upgrade my household wireless capabilities from the ice ages (an old Intel router). I followed the directions and one by one every device came up online without a hitch. I directly connected my desktop PC, then my wife's Vaio, the HP Printer upstairs, and the Cisco Network bridge (connected to the blueray player). All equipment has been online without a hitch for about one month. I then bought my first Blackberry Storm II and it connected immediately. The speeds on my wife's PC are astounding as is the connection to the Cisco bridge - which is what I use to download movies from Netflix. The picture on the TV is beautiful, and the downloads worked with any issues.If you can follow the easy to use directions, I'm sure that you will be pleased with the results. I could not have found an easier to install device.

So I bought 3 N Wireless Routers. I tested all 3 and planned to keep the best one to replace an older, but very stable Dell 802.11b wireless router from 2002.The 3 N Wireless Routers I tested were:1)Linksys WRT160N Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router Version3($[...])2)Belkin Wireless N 4-Port Router ($[...])3)Netgear WNR2000-100NAS Wireless-N Router ($[...])Of the three, the Linksys was by far the worst - wireless would work for maybe 2 minutes and then become impossible. I event spent 2 hours with the Linksys tech support in India and they had me try a myriad of crap like changing wireless security to WEP from WPA2, and setting the wireless channel to 11 instead of Auto, etc. I gave up on the Linksys after a whole night of trying. FAILThe Belkin was far easier to setup, just plug and play and it seemed to recognize most of my network's other routers and network hubs; however, the wireless connection would not stay on consistently. It would drop in and out. It did play friendly with my iPhone and Macs and PC mix, but would not be consistent.The Netgear was by far the most stable and easiest to setup. It held a solid connection and I was able to get the same speed speed from wireless as from wired when close to the router. I even got my HP Printer which has 802.11g to connect to it seamlessly using WPA2 security.I didn't test the range with the Linksys nor the Belkin since they could not hold a connection properly. I was really impressed with the Netgear range. I have the router in a closet on the 2nd floor and was able to get 4/4 bars for 802.11n reception on my MacbookPro, getting 2/3 full speed as wired. With my iPhone i also got 3/3 bars for 802.11g reception in the basement and was able to stream youtube videos just fine and use my slingbox mobile app.

This device was easy to setup, showed good range and solid selectivity and sensitivity.Until a few days ago.It inexplicably stopped working. Resetting the NIC of a wire-connected computer would restore internet connectivity only to fail again in a few minutes. Wireless clients would seek alternate access points/networks.I'm back with a Linksys E2000 for now. I bit the bullet and purchased an extended warranty for it, too, as I've gone through several wireless routers (Netgear and Belkin) in a short period of time.Not recommended.

Way too many issues with Windows 7 x64. I got it to work for a bit, and it seemed to work well enough WHEN IT WORKED, but when it didn't, it was a complete hassle. The drivers or hardware must be seriously flawed (I downloaded the latest from Netgear's site). I experienced network failures, software lockups, shutdown problems, and other miscellaneous issues (like failures after resuming from sleep). Perhaps it works better with other OS's but if it doesn't work with Windows 7, even though the drivers install, then it's 1 star from me. The built-in networking in my notebook works much better, even though it's not "N".

I have had the unit running for a about 6 weeks in a small office environment.It was easy to set up, I inserted the CD, followed the prompts and waited for the unit to set itself up, which it did on the first try. It can be set manually as well if you so choose.It does not overheat, but I do use a USB cooling pad to keep it cool. In the past many of my routers routers have overheated themselves to death, this $15.00 cooling pad should extend its life.Speed is acceptable, there has been no down time and I very much like the URL filter so I can keep my staff away from social sites or whatever else I decide. They simply wasted too much time on those sites.The unit is on 24x7, with up to 14 computers online simultaneously, so far it has performed flawlessly.

All i have to say is, i didn't get this here, we got it today and our local Best Buy...and it cost 119 bucks..and i only planned to spend 70 max! I was told it was the best for multiple wifi connection (my son has a psp, my other son has the ds lite and my husband has his ps3) so...instead of the cheaper 99 dollar one (g router), i chose to get this one.This was HELL to put up!!! It says on the box how easy installation is....but no..i spent 5 hours on the phone combined between my phone co., verizon and net gear..who kept telling me to call the other to do this and that, and the problem would be fixed. (when installing the disk...everything was going fine, until i hit the connection part...the internet button was red..and it's supposed to be green---in the end, come to find out after my calls..they had to use a MAC address or something and it was on my old modem, from verizon!!! OMG..so if u buy one..and u have verizon...keep that in mind!!) I have to say that the people at netgear seem a little snappy and eager to rush through it and talk fast..and hang up and acted irritated when i repeated stuff to make sure i understood what they meant...i don't know how many times i had to ask them to repeat themselves!! and plus...3 out the 5 didn't speak very good english..so that only irritated me more. But, needless to say...i was happy and thankful for the guy that finally figured out what was wrong and i saw that red light turn green!!Anyway...our duplex is only about 1200sq ft. .and the router is in our room..towards the back of the house and my husbands ps3 is in the front of the house...and my husbands ps3 signal was jumping around to around 65%-100%, my son's psp was working flawlesly...and my computer..well...i thought it was going to zoom......but it's about the same..could be because my family is all on at once...but that's why we spent the money we did..so we could all do that. I just might have to spend MORE money and purchase a "RangeMax" adapter--for "maximum" performance--and i sit here and think...uhh it should be that way, as much as we spent on it. I would consider taking it back...but i stressed out today for 5 hours for my hubby...he hadn't been online for 23 days....so i plan to keep it...cuz i didn't go through all this stress today for nothing!!! At least the boys are happy that they can go online with their toys ;)loses one star for set up and customer service...and another star, cuz it's not as fast as i'd hoped

I bought the Netgear 300 router and adapter (sold separately) to broadcast/receive a signal from the second floor of my condo to the 1st... maybe 45 feet away at most. I decided on a little overkill, and I have gotten killer speeds. Online gaming is no problem, downloading large files takes no time at all. I would highly recommend this setup, after pouring over amazon reviews and considering how wary I was of wireless hardware.After doing all the research, and knowing I hated Belkin and wasn't going that route, I finally broke down at best buy and nabbed the netgear package. Setting things up wasn't too painful, and I have not been disappointed yet (after 2 weeks). Now, if only my comcast connection was as reliable! Good luck!
