We purchased this router less than a year ago and it has already stopped working. Because it was 10 months after the purchase, the warranty was not in effect.Netgear required us to purchase an extended warranty for about $100 before they would even begin talking to us about what might be wrong with the router.After paying the fee, I spent the next 2-3 hours doing all kinds of resets, unplugs and reboots with no success. This was complicated by dealing with a foreign call center where the accents made communication more difficult.In the end, I gave up. The router did not get fixed and we determined that perhaps it would be wise to purchase another Linksys router -- which we had used for 10 years before buying the Netgear. That router never gave us any problems for those 10 years, until it simply broke down and a new one was required.

This product is a complete disaster. Please do not buy. I bought this and I have lost my money. At the same time there is no appropriate customer service from Netgear. They do not care. If you call their customer service they will route your call from one agent to another and you will have trouble. Buying this product is waste of money. There are serious hardware compatibility problems with this router. You will find it on "sale" section everywhere. Please do not buy.

Although the Netgear DGN1000 is advertised as a Wireless-N router, there is no setting for Wireless-N 150 for in the Router Firmware Settings. If you are looking for Wireless-N, look elsewhere. The only settings available are Wireless G and B. Looking for a resolution for Wireless-N from the Netgear site yielded no answers. Customer Support did not address or respond to the inquiries. Also, installation time for ended up to be over an hour, despite already having a working internet connection with a Linksys router prior to installing the new one.The networking portion works great but the DSL portion of the modem is questionable, since the Link / Internet light frequently dropped while attempting to connect to the Internet. The home has a clean connection with the ISP, with all phone filters properly connected. There were no problems with the previous Siemens SpeedStream ADSL Modem, which always had a solid unblinking light for the Internet. The latest ADSL Firmware Version (3.4.4.0.0.1) was later installed but the Link and Internet lights still only blinked and then turned off. Only after using the Setup CD to manually input the login information for my ISP via PPPoE, did the Internet light appear. The router / modem now works without any issues up to date.Our home connection is advertised to be 1.5Mbps theoretical, and connecting the new router resulted in speeds slightly faster than before by an average of 1Kbps using speed tests. Wireless security is slightly difficult to configure, and had to change around the encryption standards and passkeys for other computers to connect. Signal strength is typical for its class (5 / 5 bars), although does not compare to dual-band Wireless-N routers.Note: I bought another of these modem / routers at a later date to connect a Satellite box (which was able to receive overseas and foreign TV media) and I found out that the DGN1000 experienced similar issues, the main one being having a hard time detecting the DSL / Internet signal. The modem was unable to resolve an IP on its own, which resulted in a red blinking light for Internet, although the DSL Link light was green and solid. Since no computers were connected to the router, and only the Satellite box, a suggested solution would be to connect a laptop or netbook via patch cable and configuring the router manually.

I bought this device because my old DSL router with wireless seemed to be cutting out more frequently than it should be.It installed quite well, and connected to ISP (Qwest) without trouble.Wireless setup was a little confusing. Possibly because I don't know tons about wireless networks, but I didn't expect that I should have to know that much. What I didn't understand was why this device wanted to setup two networks by default. After the fact, I understand that it did this because of the different bands that it supports. What it didn't do well, in my opinion, was explain to me how to decide what I needed. It turns out that I needed to enable both bands to support the latest features as well as some (not so old) devices that don't support both bands.The device may have saved my bacon, however, because it has the option of enabling a guest wireless network. Yep, that's right, I have 3 wireless networks running on the same device. I've only enabled this to allow for a different set of security settings for my internal network, but it is quite handy not to have to go out and buy another piece of equipment to do this.

We've had two of these. First one burned out after 6 months. second one overheats and turns off at least twice a day. Terrible performance and more expensive than other routers.

Saved me from running new cable to a bed room with no cable outlet.Installed in about 5 minutes. Internet runs as fast as my hard wired computer.Note that I am using a Netgear Wifi router as well.Only problem I had was, the hook and loop tape supplied, to attach the cradle, does not stick well at all. Easily fixed with store bought hook and loop tape.

This router worked for a few months, then started crashing every few minutes, losing its configuration every time. From the other reviews, it looks like this is a common problem that Netgear refuses to address.

HelloI've been using routers for several years now. This is probably my 4th router. I usually go with Netgear, and with good reason. They usually work well and don't constantly need to be reset. However, I have had issues with one router in the past. Now that I have used this router for slightly over a year, I decided to write a review about it.First off, the ease of setup is remarkable. You take it out of the box. You put the cd disc in, it shows you the step by step process, and now you are done. Ready to go. I have mine hooked up to Clear, which is a 4G network.I have multiple laptop users in the house, as well as a Wii and a ps3. The router works well for every system. I haven't had issues with losing connection with my video games, nor have I experienced inability to detect network from the laptops. Lastly, some routers need to be constantly reset because the signal fades in and out. With this router, I haven't experienced that yet (knock on wood).Basically, I just wanted to write a quick review that allows others to know what success I have had with this router after a year and change. Out of the many options, it is one of the better ones. Good luck

If you are somewhere where you use a wireless 3G or 4G wireless usb modem to connect to the web.... then this is for you. I live out in the country where the ONLY choice for internet is a wireless usb modem or satelite...which sucks and is slow so the usb was the way to go. I use sprint sierra usb 598 series modem to connect.Whats great is that its pretty simple to set up and you can share your connection wirelessly with wifi or with one of 4 ethernet ports in the back. This is great if you have a PS3 like me or a WII, XBOX 360. You can be connected wirelessly with your ps3 and someone else can be on the laptop or whatever.The only 2 downsides are that1. you have to use the usb modem on your laptop first to move around and find where you get a consistantly stronger signal from your wireless provider.... because2. there is no signal strength meter on the router telling you how strong your connection is to the internet. Once you find that sweet spot though... then all of your wireless wifi will benefit because the router delivers a nice strong signal to them but again the key is finding that sweet spot with your laptop first then its easy from there.You can go here: [...] to see a list of supported usb modems because if its NOT on that list, then it will not work. Also do some searching... I got this brand new for $90 shipped.

I just set this Netgear router up and it works perfectly. I'm used to the Netgear interface so setting it up was extremely easy. Connections went on like a breeze.If I didn't see that this was a refurbished unit I would not have been able to tell looking at the router on my desk, or the performance.

This router works okay for wired connection but the wireless performance is absolutely horrible. I often have a hard time getting a decent signal when I'm sitting 20 feet away in direct line of sight. Most of my neighbors signals are stonger than the signal from my own router. I would not suggest buying this.

Can't rate this router as far as performance / reliability as I had to return it the same day I bought it. I could live with the admin UI that looked like it was designed by a color blind child or the absence of a MAC address filter, but not being able to forward traffic from an external port to an internal one with a different number was a deal breaker for me (as I'm sure it would be for anyone wishing to expose parts of their home network to the outside world in a safe and controlled manner). Ended up getting a Linksys WRT120N instead and am happy with it so far.

I obtained this product secondhand. I bought a used computer on Craigslist.org, and it came with a WG111v3 USB adapter. The seller didn't include the original CD, but I downloaded the driver off the netgear website. The setup was very easy and straightforward. I tried this adapter with a 2007 Dell Vostro desktop and 2005 HP a800n. It works well on both computers running WinXP and even better, it works out of the box with Puppy Linux 5.1.1 and Ubuntu 10.10. I consistently get 54 mps speeds.I know that this isn't as fast as the newer wireless n adapters, but for web surfing, it's perfectly adequate for me.Update 7/08/11: This adapter is plug and play for Ubuntu 11.04. I booted up the live CD and my wireless network was found. I simply entered my network key, and I was connected! In fact, I'm writing and submitting an update this review with Ubuntu 11.04.

This is definitely not the best on the market, but works great, fast, and cheap. I tried to link two of these units outside to share internet, but the signal was too weak. I am guessing it was about 300 feet with no objects between to interfere. I expected better, but this works great in home.

Easy to install and does exactly what it says. It solved a problem that was dragged out for several months in 2 mins. Now my old computer with 3g capability alone can log onto my 4g network with no problem. Problem solved!!! Who new it was so easy..I can't believe it!!

The WNR1000v2 is great little router for a home network if you're just using it for internet surfing and Netflix streaming. I got mine for $40+tax with a Staples $10 coupon. I was going to get the WNR3500L so I could get gigibit ports but this was a lot cheaper and has an external On/Off switch for the wireless which I really wanted. It has a piano black finish on top and comes with a small power brick. This unit replace my old wired router.Since I only have DSL, I didn't need a fast wireless. I ran speed tests from about 25 feet from the router and the rates were the same as a CAT-5 cable (as expected since the router is rated at 150 Mbps). The router is smaller than I expected and light, maybe a little too light. Now I see why they eliminated the vertical stand on the newer version. The Ethernet cables are too heavy to keep the router upright. Even when lying flat and having used all the ports, the unit sometimes tilts a little from the weight of the cables.The CD setup the router to the internet and upgraded the firmware to 1.0.1.1 with no problem. The router later automatically update it's private IP address from 192.168.1.1 (Class C network) to 10.0.0.1 (Class A network) with the submask set at 255.255.255.0. It is also easy to set reserved IP addresses and specific MAC addresses to limit the computers that can access your network. No power setting option for the antenna output.The wireless setup was easy except for the passphase input for PSK. You really need a random string to make the wireless more secure. They should explain the passphase setting a little better and provide a link to get a random string. Google saved me again in understanding the network terms and which is the best encryption setting.The tiny wireless On/Off button is great to enable the wireless only when you need it. It remembers to stay off if you want when turning the router on in the morning.Only issue I had was the LED indicators are rather dim in a well lit room so you can't read the LED status.I did not use the tiny WPS button because I have XP so I manually set up my laptop wireless with the SSID, WPA2-PSK, and AES encryption.

I bought this for my sister-in-law, she needed an inexpensive USB wireless adapter for her TiVo. It is not supported by TiVo, that was our fault for not checking. However, her apartment features free WiFi for it's residents, so I hooked it up to her desktop computer running Windows XP. It worked for about 4-6 weeks. Now, it just sits with the software interface saying "scanning", but will not connect to the network. She has a laptop (with built-in WiFi adapter) that connects to the same network whilst sitting right next to the desktop.I tried reinstalling, completely removing the Netgear software and reinstalling, even a system restore to before it was installed (and then a reinstall). I tried the USB adapter on her laptop (Windows 7) and my laptop (Mac OS X 10.6). Nothing worked.I then called tech support. After 4 elevations of the issue, the best they could tell me was that it was a problem with the wireless signal, not the Netgear adapter. They actually implied that I was lying when I mentioned that two laptops (her Windows 7 machine and my Mac) were sitting on the same desk and connecting with good signal strength. And they refused to honor the warranty.Based on this experience, I will avoid Netgear products in the future.

The first N150 I bought was constantly loosing packets and droping WAN connection. Took three cals to Netgear to have it RMA and I had to pay for shipping it to them. Netgear sends replacement only after they receive the original and they do it by ground service. You have to pay to expedite the delivery. For 2 weeks I was without a router. The second router lasted about a month and then started to freeze periodically.

Pros: linux based (2.6.21.5 kernel, latest firmware has May, 2010 build date, root telnet access); built-in DSL performs well (ATT PPPoE); lots of blue LEDs; typical NETGEAR setup.Cons:o No dd-wrt available :(o No LAN router DNS caching. Pushes WAN servers to DHCP clients. If you modify so that the router IP is first, WAN lookups appear to be from router but aren't. LAN lookups always fail, even for reserved addresses. This is a big deal in a mixed environment.o Scant and/or poor stats.o Multiple internal antennae are not as efficient (signal strength at clients) as WRT54GL (ddwrt v24). Both about 25 feet from clients and must cover two floors.o N+G do not play nice. System has 4 basic settings (145MbG/145MbN+54MbG/300MbG/300MbN+54MbG, roughly 'medium' and 'high') but none of the N+G settings work with all N and G devices at the same time (G: Vonage, linksys WPC54G, Roku N1001; N: Asus PCE-N13, Intel WiFi Link 6000, Roku N1101). Note that 'G only 145' does play nice and has great speed for WiFi 6000 -> wired client (~8.5MB/s).o 'attached devices' display unpredictably shows DHCP host name or 'UNKNOWN' between refreshes, even for reserved addresses.Did not play with USB, port or firewall defaults.Originally bought to replace a lame, daily reboot D-link 2320B and let N devices have their own path, but as the title says, not worth $150. Replaced with DGN2200 for high speed devices+DSL, WRT54GL returned to its throne for G+DNS, $50 left over for a nice Napa Cab.

I bought this one for my son's xbox live connection at the basement. I have netgear N600(wndr3400) router at the second floor. I was able to connect this bridge WNHDE111 to my netgear router using WPS. I had to set my router's security encryption at WEP for 5ghz band. I took the PIN # from the bridge(at the back) and entered the pin at N600 router using the menu (add wps client). within a minute my router able to connect to the bridge. My son is now able to connect his x-box without needing to pull long cable. It has two ports. I am using the other port to connect my ooma. Your router must have 5ghz band to use wnhde111 as bridge though.

So many times I've purchased some technical piece of equipment from some young male tech-head who says "it's really easy" and then I get home to find it's anything but. This Netgear item truly IS easy to install. It was so easy, I'm even motivated to write a review, something I've hardly ever done.I came to the USA on a visit, bringing my Macbook Pro 13" laptop. I was staying with my father who has the internet coming into the home via Cable. The tech-head at Best Buy assured me that this Netgear N-300 router would allow me to connect my laptop wirelessly to my father's internet, with lots of power and coverage, and would be easy to set up. Well, I thought I'd give it a try on my own, being ready to take it straight back to the shop if it gave me any trouble at all.To my delight, the instructions in the box were straightforward, in good English with clear pictures. I installed the CD on my father's wire-connected computer and followed the instructions. Carefully, step by step. When it didn't work, I checked my connections. Woops, I had forgotten to press the power switch on. And then magically all the colored lights started to dance and my father's computer was connected again, this time through the Netgear router as well as the ordinary Cable modem. Thank goodness or he would have thrown me out of the house.Next task was to get my laptop connected wirelessly. First I plugged in a spare ethernet cable into one of the spare Netgear ethernet ports (it has 4). Yup, worked fine. But would the wireless connection be as easy? (I was worried about all those passwords and ISP protocols that are so confusing to me, a helpless female). On my laptop, I turned on Airport. In the window was the word "NETGEAR". I clicked on it. I was connected. That's IT!!!! How amazing is that!!!! I did it all on my own, without having to call my tech-head nephew to bail me out!

My old Modem was going bad and was very slow and I also had a switch hooked to it so i could be on Xbox Live and my PC at the same time. Then my internet was cutting out and I knew it was a problem with my modem. So i got this and its great that this is a DSL modem and router together and also has wireless! it is very fast and great for online gaming and all around use.Pros: Fast, lots of Ethernet ports, secure wireless, modem router in one, easy hook up.Cons: Cables that come with it were too short, and it gets very hot! almost hurts to touch the bottom.

This router far exceeded my expectations for range: I can now connect absolutely anywhere in the house as well as in my driveway. Throughput is good enough for any internet task I throw at it. The dome lights are rather bright and sometimes annoying, but there is a switch to turn it off. In short, I would definitely recommend this router.

This is more a review on the great customer service I just received from Kittywater. Bought what I'm sure will be a solid product but was blown away by the quick response and detailed information that Kittywater provided. The response included tracking, what to do if, however we can help, your material is on the way and a sincere thank you. This was less than an hour after I ordered my inexpensive item.I just wanted to say thanks to a companyy that has some of the best manners and customer orientation I have come across in years. Some folks are willing to pay more for great service and I didn't even have to do that! Thanks for a great response and superior customer service! You have created customer satisfaction.

I've used Netgear products in the past without issue, but this device has been a HUGE HEADACHE.This device was given to me by someone who no longer needed it, and we used it on our apartment for a while without issue. Then one day I decided to move the router & our cable modem into another room and that's when the trouble started.No one could connect to the network, and even when I plugged in with a network cable I got nothing, even though the lights were still flashing.I eventually narrowed it down to a strange problem with the wireless. If no one tried to connect to the wireless network everything was fine. On the wired side there were no issues. However, once ANYONE attempted to connect to the wireless network (even on machines that had connected before), the router stopped responding to ALL TCP requests.I tried resetting the router, no luck. I also tried upgrading the firmware but had the same problem (losing connectivity with the router) when I tried to do the upgrade.Did my research online & found other owners of this router have had similar issues, and others who reported heat issues. I have been an IT professional for 8 years and after 2 hours of working with this I wasn't able to get it to work...It's going in the junk pile and has been replaced by a Linksys.

The wg111 wireless connector is a handy little device. We use it to connect a laptop to our wireless router about 35ft away in the next room. The connection is reliable though not terribly fast. The only real downside to the wg111 is that it does run fairly hot, which is likely why its speed is limited. I purchased mine from Amazon after "testing" one for a few days from the local box-store retail place. (I got the connector at half the price on Amazon.) I do have to say that the newer box-store model ran much cooler and a little faster. It also came with more current software so after I returned it and installed the one I purchased on Amazon the current software was already installed. It installs fairly easily and the included software to monitor the connection is pretty self-explanatory. If you need a reliable, low cost solution this is it.

Received the router today and it looks like brand new. Nicely packed, no scratches, but the installation cd was missing. Not a problem, connected router within 5 minutes to my AT&T DSL and I downloaded the new firmware automatically. Very easy to set. I will need to review all the functionalities, but I believe this was a smart buy, especially when you have 4 laptops, Netflix running all the time and you want a USB backup storage to save all your music and pictures. Well done Netgear.

I DO NOT recommend buying this or ANY Netgear product. The reason being is that this unit and two other netgear modems/router units I previously purchased before this last one have had issues with wireless networking, inconsistent speeds, sometimes the unit itself would drop speeds even when the connection had no problems. The media server is itself problematic where trying to play video files, it would skip over sometimes without warning while playing.I've contacted Netgear REPEATEDLY trying to get them to at least acknowledge that the firmware for this unit is buggy and still to this day they have not been able or unwilling to release a stable firmware for this or the other 2 units I owned before this one.Until then, I'm letting the word out there to everyone NOT to purchase anything from Netgear until they start addressing the buggy software plaguing all of their products.[...]

The adapter really works very well. It comes with the Windows drivers and it is great. Good antenna and rock solid. However if you are a Linux person like me then you will not be very happy. I used it on three different Linux machines with Ubuntu, SUSE and PinguyOS distributions. Since Netgear doesn't support Linux there are no drivers. I got it to work and it simply shut down every 15 seconds. Re-plug it and the network connection started back up and then 15 seconds later dead again. I switched to another wireless adapter I have. An old ZyXEL adapter that I plugged in and it came right up and never shuts down. For those of you who are very technical I did install the ndis wrapper using the windows driver and still no luck So, I like it and it is really good just making sure to bring up the Linux issues to be helpful for other Linux fans.

I got this to network two computers in my home. Both computers have windows XP. It was pretty easy to set up and worked fairly well. My next purchase was an iMac computer. The mac was easy to set up; it basically did the hookup it's self! My XP computers were getting old, so I bought a new pc with windows 7, and this is when the problems started. I could not get the router to work with windows 7 - even hard wired. I had the router for maybe 6 months at this time. The router is shot. I can't get it to work even if I leave my newest computer, the windows 7 unit, out of the equation. I have been using my new pc hard wired to my modem - without the router. My other computers are not online. What a drag. I am shopping for a new router and not very happy about it. I would have thought the darned thing would last a year at least. This was my first in home router. I think I am going to get the Netgear WNDR3700/N600 and hope for the best. I hope my next Netgear purchase is better than this one was.

I received no program cd s with either of these products, and I purchased two net gear from amazon. Can not seem to register either of these products with net gear, the serial numbers I am supposed to have are located on these disk from what I understand. Also, I have to solely rely on the manual I found on line, any help from net gear costs you extra money....

I must admit that my college professor son helped me set this up. But as I followed him through the steps, it seemed pretty straight forward. The coverage in my home is pretty good, I have a large multi level home. If I moved it to a more central location, I am sure my coverage would improve. I do question the need for all the lights, I don't know what the power usage is for this unit, but it does light up a dark room, so put it somewhere the light will not bother you.

I install a fair number of wireless access points for my customers. I've used most of the brands but find the Netgear WAPs to be the easiest to use. I have no problem recommending Netgear products to my customers.

Paid over $80 for an item that I thought would we wonderful. I had some difficulties with watching Netflix over streaming video or sometimes connecting to the internet. Would have to turn modem and router entirely off again and the device, turn the internet on & let it sit connected for a bit before I could turn the device back on.Month 11...worked fine one night and not the next morning. Called customer service...what a JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't understand the rep and I was told that since the device still turns on and you can see lights that it's a program malfunction and I need to transfer you to someone else & you have to pay a fee to do so. My internet is fine I can connect as long as I'm plugged into the modem.The warranty is only good for 90 days on software issues...if it's hardware it's good until 2031 or something like that. So I'm stuck with $80 garbage!!!!!!!

Given my wired/wireless network mix, it's certainly nice to have a combo DSL & router and not have to worry about the IP address of the router masking the IP address of the DSL modem. Easy to set up, very reliable, and I've only had to reboot it a couple of times in the past few months.Unfortunately, the signal strenth is abyssmally bad. 15 feet away & in the same room, my wife's computer gets 4/5 bars. 30 feet & 1 room/floor away, my son's laptop gets 2/5. Our Nintendo 60 feet away can't get the signal at all. I've had to buy high gain antennas for most of my equipment. Unfortunately, this router has no external antenna, and so it's impossible to upgrade. Our old Linksys non-DSL-including router was so powerful that I could actually get a good signal down at the street (and I'm in the middle of a 5-acre plot) -- I definitely miss that & am sad that it died, though I disliked that the DSL modem was separate from it.

I work in a building with cinder block walls separating different area's. We have this model and another Netgear model to help maintain the wireless access through-out our facility. They both do the job and do it well.

I bought this router to replace my TRENDnet router that has about the same specs, the TRENDnet can't even hold a candle up the NETGEAR. The range alone was worth the replacement and the TRENDnet cost me more. The NETGEAR was easy to setup and even thought it did not come with a setup CD or a manual, just goto the NETGEAR web site and you can download a setup manual.

I bought this item "refurbished" and absolutely no regret. The signal strength is excellent and it is very easy to set-up. In fact, if you do not want to secure the connection then it is only plug-n-play. To secure the connection follow the procedure:Connect to your router (through Ethernet cable or wireless). Use any internet browser and enter the address 192.168.1.1 with following username and password:Username: adminPassword: passwordThese are the default settings on your Netgear. Once logged-in first thing I would do is change the password and then you can proceed with your choice of encryption using the "wireless settings" menu.Very nice equipment for the price and the seller (Tiger Direct) ships it fast.

I purchased the Netgear DGN2000 to replace my Netopia 2247 simply because; I wanted added features such as email notification, wireless N and website blocking out of one device. The device was easy to configure out of the box and it was up and running in no time. I used it for a couple of weeks with no problem then, one night I noticed that my internet connection was down, I rebooted the device and my internet service returned to normal but, not for long. The front panel indicator lights showed an absence of an ADSL connection. In reviewing the logs, I saw the "Initializing LCP" logged and the device would not authenticate.I started to blame my ISP but decided to try my Netopia modem to see if it worked before I called and complained to my ISP. After reconnecting the Netopia the ADSL link immediately came back and I was able to connect to the internet. I then started to Google the problem and noticed that other people were experiencing similar issues with other Netgear ADSL modes. I also noticed that Netgear had a firmware upgrade for my modem. I downloaded and applied the latest firmware grade and the modem started to work again.My joy lasted for about a week when my internet went down again. This time all lights on the modem were as they should be but, I could not connect to the internet. I rebooted the device with no change. Once again I decided to try my Netopa and again it worked! Am I glad I did not get rid of my Netopia. Yet another downside to the Netgear DGN2000 is that it runs extremely hot in comparison to the Netopia 2247.Right now I am uncertain as to exactly what is happening, it could simply be that the Netgear DGN2000 will not tolerate less than a perfect ISP line but, unlike the Netopia the options for adjusting these tolerances do not exist or I am looking for them in all the wrong places so, I have reverted back to what works.I can say that when it worked the Netgear DGN 2000 is a good device with a higher than ideal running temperature unfortunately, I cannot settle for a device which feels like working occasionally as I rely on my internet to function for such things as work and school.In conclusion, my recommendation to anyone looking to purchase this device as I did in order to consolidate ADSL and wireless access points while having added features; would be to look at other options before deciding on this product. I intend to contact technical support in hopes that they will have a solution to my problem and failing that I will see if I can return the DGN2000 for a refund which will go towards a new Netopia.

I BOUGHT TWO OF THESE WITHOUT DOING MUCH RESEARCH ON THE DRIVERS FOR THIS DONGLE, THEY ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MACINTOSH, THIS IS JUST A WARNING FOR THOSE MAC OWNERS, IM SURE THIS IS A GOOD PRODUCT BY NETGEAR BUT THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE IT MORE UNIVERSAL, HOPE THIS HELPS :)

This router has been running well for over a week. My older Netgear router had a bulging capacitor which caused it to make a high pitched noise. The only draw back is that the router does not come with an instruction manual, or an installation CD. If you are familiar with setting up a router, this is not a problem. You can easily find the default username and password online. There really isn't anything to setup except for the wireless setting, and changing the password. The router is setup to work right out of the box. Given the price, I am happy with the purchase.

I bought this router after the old one had died with my internet service. After getting this new router, I found out that my internet service was spotty or variable speeds given the day. When the internet company fixed their end, I became perplexed why the wired connection down stairs was still slow, when the main computer next to the modem was fast and fixed. The wireless connection on another computer was great. I did not want to weed through for a fix, so called NegGear right off. A technician immediately took me into an online site, he had me change some numbers relating to calibrating the router and in 15 minutes, after resetting my connection downstairs, was up to fast speeds. Having 5 desktop computers connected might have been a reason, I don't know and I don't care. All I want to do is call and have it fixed right away, that is all I expect. I believe things will be how I imagined for once and that includes FAST service that actually brings a quick resolution. I'm not pitching, just trying to give a voice to something that is credit worthy when usually my calling for fixed internet just does not work. Now, things are good, so I thought I'd add to reviews that I think were not representative of what you'll find, but mostly good reviews elsewhere.

I have set up at least 4 wireless routers that were plug and play in less than 5 minutes. I bought this to replace a G-band router at a new place I was living. This router is NOT mac compatible! If you insert the software disc, all the files are PC system files like .exe files. There is a txt notice to Mac users that tells you to go here http://www.tempel.org/joliet/ and download an EXTENSION (!!!!) that will allow you to use the files on this CD. Well, extensions are for SYSTEM 9 which is a dead system! When you go to that link, the web page confirms that this download is for a defunct system and does not work on OSX! So basically, in 2010 Netgear and Amazon are selling a modem whose software canot be read on a MAc unless you have an OS from the 1990s!!!! What the hell? Further, when we tried to install it using a household member's PC, the first step in the wizard told us "The network adapter in this computer is not working. You must have a working internet adapter to use this setup." Netgear support cut us off after going through an excruciating array of support options and hold time. Her old modem works fine. This is going back.
