I bought this for my parents who at times had 3 laptops all connected via cables to their linksys crowded around the kitchen table. It cleared out a lot of mess and simplified their desk area.My husband did all the set up and after getting all the password and username info from Qwest it was a breeze to set up. We haven't experienced any dropped connection. It's only been set up for a few days so can't say anything about customer support, over heating, or burning up components.

This unit works well, is easy to set up, but does produce a decent amount of heat and the mount that makes it sit upright is chincy. The light show is quite fun, the range is good. I've used it with iPhone, apple products and PC products with no issues. I've moved on to a new router now, but nothing was wrong with this one.

I was really excited about this product because I could stop renting Qwest's modem. Well, it arrived and I spent a couple hours trying to complete their "easy 3-step" set-up. Finally, I admitted defeat. After an hour on the phone with tech support, which sounded like two different Indian men, they told me I would need to take the router, hook it up to a pc, download an update from an ftp site and then hook up the router to my mac and go through the whole set-up process (the one I spent hours on today) again. I'm in the creative industry and don't know anyone who even owns a pc and I doubt kinko's is going to let me come in and hook up my own hardware. I attempted to find contact information for customer service on their website, but all I can seem to get is tech support. I hoped they could send me a new one that is updated, but it's not looking like that will happen. My mac meets all the requirements described on the box for this product. If you have a mac and you buy this product, I might suggest going to Best Buy (even though I love Amazon) just so you can utilize the Geek Squad. Though depending on where you live, that may or may not be a more appealing option. If I can find a pc and get this stupid thing working, I'll edit my review to reflect that experience.

I am now on my 3rd WG602v4 (about to buy another one). The first one, v3 lasted 21 months and the second one (V4) about 12 months. Newer version == less lifespan?? I highly suspect that Netgear and other manufactures are now using cheap electronic components that fail within about 2 years. However, this unit works quite well as a Wireless Ethernet Bridge between an upstream Netgear WPN824v2 (192.168.1.1) and a downstream Ethernet Linksys BEFSX41 router on its own network (192.168.2.1). Setting it up in the client, infrastructure mode is a bit difficult. The WPN824 Router and WG602 channel must match, and several switches including the password need to be re-entered when the unit re-boots. The hard re-set button on the back comes in handy in case you cannot access the unit.<>After a move (OCT 10), I use the 602 with Verizon DSL to connect the same Linksys BEFSX41 firewall router. This provides connectivity to Wireless notebooks in the DHCP enabled, Client, Infrastructure mode. It is a Wireless Ethernet Bridge setup. Netgear's instructions on this setup are weak to non-existent.

Even though this says it works with Windows Vista when I inserted the CD it said it was not compatible with my operating system. I had to install it manually so that was a pain but once I finally got that done it worked fine. It also causes a 'clicking' noise when I use the phone but that's probably an issue with my cable company. All in all for the money it's not a bad router but I know that you can get one like a Belkin cheaper and that works just as well.

I installed this adaptor on a Dell Dimension with windows XP. I used the USB cable extension on the initial installation figuring it would have more of an antenna effect with the cable. I installed the software provided. But, it didn't work. On the second installation try it did. For some reason unknown to me, it disabled my log on log off options, and I can't use the quick log feature now to switch users. A message comes up in control panel that the feature has been disabled by the adaptor program. But, I can live with that. It picked up my routers signal with no problem, and connects every time I start the computer. Occassionally it will exhibit a symptom whereby the signal strength drops to 0 and then to excellent, fluctuating back and forth. Restarting the computer takes care of it. And,it doesn't happen so often that it is a big pain.

This was my first time setting up wi-fi at my house. This router works great. I get a great signal all over the house with no interference at all. I ended up manually installing it because it had to be used as a bridge with my AT&T modem. That was easy following the directions off AT&T's website (just look up by your modem model #). I was nervous because I've never done it before but I was surprised at how easy it was and what a great signal I get form this router.

I had to replace the Belkin N+ router when the Comcast service man could not make it work with the Arris modem he installed. I had purchased the Belkin router to get extra range out to my shop and it was working great. The Comcast tech rep told me they had these Netgear routers available for the cost of shipping ($10) so I got one. The Netgear router signal barely gets beyond the room it's in, far short of the 300 foot range suggested for N class WiFi signals. It looks like I'll have to run a Cat 5 cable out to the shop.

The Netgear web based interface is easy to use and looks pretty much like the one from my old WGR614, so it was easy to set up.The unit is sort of big, but I have it in a closet, so that doesn't make too much difference.I bought this as a refurb. I bought this kit to send HD video from my computer to my TV media device. It has adequate bandwidth and worked out of the box, but I do not get a strong signal from the main floor to the basement of my house, a distance of about 25 feet. There are a couple of walls as well as the floor, and the basement ceiling has metal duct work and pipes above the plasterboard, so I am probably lucky to penetrate all that. I used a laptop to indicate wireless signal strength, and spent a couple of hours orienting each device for the best signal. Now I get a level that varies from 50% to 70%, and that works reliably for HD at 720p. I have not been able to send 1080i over the link without momentary stops and starts in the audio and video; however the link never breaks connection and never needs resetting. It seems to just limit the bandwidth as the signal strength goes lower.I bought a third WNHDE 111 to connect to another computer, and than link has never been interrupted since I installed it over a month ago. It has always worked well. I had previously used a Linksys G router that was interrupted once or twice a day, and it had to be reinstated manually using the "repair" function in the Windows wireless software. It was my wife's computer in the kitchen, so I had to fix it!I still have the wireless G system up, and it works well around the house with a third computer, a laptop, but it never gave a reliable signal for my wife's computer in the kitchen; and it would not carry the HD video for the TV. I also use that old G router to connect the ethernet from my main computer to the WNHDE 111.I recommend this device if you don't have too many walls and floors to penetrate. I am a retired electronics engineer, and I assure everyone that the higher the frequency, the poorer the penetration, but the more bandwidth and the more freedom from interference.Update: After 7 months, I have better results. With some tweaking of the settings (set the Channel Width to 20 MHz, turn off the "Broadcast SSID", and lower Beacon Period to 50 msec) I can now stream 25 Mbps HD video through all the walls. I think the main problem was that the auto 20/40 Channel Width was trying to run at 40 and was not successful, sometimes switching between 20 and 40. When I reduced the channel width, I got an increase in signal strength. I can now stream 1080i HD for hours without any problem.Jim

Decided to give these a try as they appeared to work well for some people, unfortunately I'm having the problem reported by some others here and on the Netgear forums: installation is straightforward, connection speeds are excellent, and after a few minutes the connection starts randomly dropping. The problem persists irrespective of signal strength - you can place the units within a few feet of each other and get the same result - it was present during trouble shooting attemps with with three different XP Pro SP3 clients, and was not solved by any of the various configuration tweaks suggested here and on the Netgear forums. Likely the the problem is somewhere in the bridge firmware, when I swapped units the problem followed the designation as a bridge while both units worked reliably as an access points.Netgear tech support was clueless to the point of having me pounding the desk in frustration as a substitute for abusing the tech support reps, in both cases in rapidly became all too clear that once you had wandered off the edge of their flowcharts you were rapidly going down into the quicksand of typical Netgear tech "support" - I'm long used to this from vendors of inexpensive consumer products, but that doesn't make it noticeably less frustrating. Why some users have this problem and others don't remains a mystery to Netgear, and the only suggestion I can make is to do what I've done: give these a try, and if they don't work for you, put them back in the box and return them for a refund. It's really a shame as this product could fill a valuable niche.

I have AT&T DSL and I bought this to replace the Motorola DSL modem that AT&T gave me (it began to die and would run too hot without a fan). I also bought it to replace a D-LINK wireless router that completely died. Setup was easy (once I found my DSL login/password, which wasn't what I thought it was). Their setup wizard worked fine and the wireless was trivial to set up, even with my older 802.11g laptop using WPA encryption. So far so good; it does both jobs just fine, and I really like reducing the clutter on my computer desk. I took one star off because this box also seems to run a little hot (I think the outside of the chassis is 45-50 degrees C). If there's this much power to dissipate, how about a heatsink or even a fan?

I bought this as a replacement for a 2Wire unit that died, and after about a month, I'm ready to throw it out the nearest window. When it works, it works well. Unfortunately, "when it works" is only about half the time. It has a nasty tendency to spontaneously drop the DSL connection (something which the old modem virtually never did, so it isn't a line issue), and then take anywhere up to a half an hour to reconnect. After running for a while, the underside of the modem is very hot to the touch, so I suspect that the root cause of the problems is overheating of the components. There seems to be some progressive damage to the system over time, as now some other components (such as the WiFi connection) are becoming increasingly flakey.Definitely not recommended.

Although this is marketed as an "HD/Gaming" wireless kit, it's important to know what this really is and how to use it.MOST IMPORTANT: This kit isn't a router -- you cannot create a Wireless N network with it alone. It is designed to add to your existing network... often a wireless 2.4 GHz network (commonly 802.11 b/g). This will provide high-speed "802.11n" at 5 GHz so it doesn't interfere with a current b/g network. Any wireless b/g devices (Xbox wireless adapter, PS3 internal wireless, b/g laptops, b/g network cards, etc.) currently used on the network will be unaffected by this addition.HOW THIS WORKS: The kit features two identical units -- one unit will plug into your existing network's router via Ethernet as an "access point", and the other unit will plug into the Ethernet device(s) (Xbox, PS3, computer, etc.) as a "bridge". Once the two units sync, it will behave as if the device(s) plugged into the bridge is hardwired to the network router. Each unit has two Ethernet ports... if you want to plug a 3rd (or more) devices in to the "bridge", you will need to add a switch like NETGEAR FS105 ProSafe 5-Port 10/100 Desktop Switch.TECH NOTE: The Ethernet ports on these devices are NOT Gigabit ports, so even though the wireless N signal can achieve 300 Mbit/s, the fastest speed you will achieve on these devices is 100 Mbit/s. However, this speed is more than enough for multiple HD streams and high-speed gaming.BENEFITS: As mentioned, your current B/G network is unchanged, so any wireless activity using that will remain the same. This kit is not designed to replace that network... just add to it. Any device(s) plugged into this Netgear kit will have greater wireless range and a MUCH faster connection than using the older B/G network.

I have had a lot of problems with this router. Its wireless connection is intermittent and sometimes totally freezes up, requiring the router and the DSL modem to be rebooted. Also, the wireless connection does not work with Dell laptops for some reason. As a result, I only use it now as a LAN router until I can afford something else. I have upgraded to the latest firmware and that hasn't helped. "Customer service" is Mumbai Hell; the waits are interminable and customer reps are clueless. If you want to use this as a print server, be sure to check for compatability on the website: the number of printers that are not compatible (or just have not been tested, why should they actually go through the trouble of verifying compatibility before advertising it?) is huge. It also has problems with online and LAN games. All my friends are playing Civ IV online with no problems, but my ability to connect has been very spotty (I've never been able to complete an online game). Also, with some LAN games (e.g., Dawn of War, Warcraft III) it will allow certain computers to connect to the game server and not others, without any discernable reason why. Netgear's website is spotty as well: the contact list for ISPs regarding ISP connectivity issues was last updated in 2005. If I'd known I would face these kinds of problems I never would have bought it.I would not recommend this product even if you got it for free; the time and headaches it will cost you are probably much more than what you'll pay for a dependable wireless router/print server. Even as a simple four-port LAN firewall/router it has gaming issues. Look elsewhere, unless you are a masochist.

I purchased this wireless networking kit after I was unable to find the DLINK DAP1522 access point in stock at Amazon or other retailers. I already have a DIR-655 and thought that going with an all DLINK network would minimize problems. I was concerned that the ethernet port on the Netgear product was only 100MB versus the four (4) GigE ports on the Dlink. I left my DIR-655 in place as the DHCP server on my network and put the Netgear as a supplemental wireless N network operating in an N-only mode. The push button WPA is very easy to use. The over the air firmware update worked flawlessly. Netflix streaming on my TiVo HD works perfect as does streaming to my Vudu. I did have to add my ethernet switch to multiplex the one port on the netgear to my three (3) home entertainment devices (TiVo HD, XBOX 360, and Vudu). In summary:Pros- Cost efficient way to bridge wirelessly to HD capable entertainment devices- Supports adding additional wireless N endpoints to the network- Simple to use push button WPA security- Decent web-based configuration software- 5 GHz bandwidth which is a pro and a conCons- Only 1 non-gigE ethernet port- Signal strength on 5 GHz is not as high as my DIR-655 operating on 2.4 GHz. I haven't run enough tests to determine throughput wirelessly over the 802.11g DIR-655 versus the 802.11n Netgear.

When playing a game online it will lose connection after 15 minutes and then hang until computer restart. As a company owner and a technician I would recommend, D-link. I think its best and will be my next choice in wireless adapters. Netgear firmware is not that good, linksys is just terrible in quality and performance.Updated: Funny thing after writing this review 2 days later NETGEAR called me up and wanted me to sign a contract with them so I cam promote there products when I'm at a customers location. Or at least sell the their product to a customer when needed. HA! Whats even worse NETGEAR said I would have to pay them a membership fee in order to sell there products? I banged my head against a wall for hours trying to get this thing to work as a wireless bridge on my network. I already have a plethora of access points, what I wanted was a bridge (especially one with more than one Ethernet port). It turns out that this thing only works with another WNHDE111 (read another guy's review "not a true bridge") -- it's more like a WNHDE111 tunnel, instead of an 802.11n bridge. They need to make it clear that all the talk about buying two of these is not just marketing speak for "buy more of our products" -- there's a requirement to buy two. There is no excuse for this product not operating as a bridge with other equipment. I have an 802.11g bridge from Netgear (WGE111), and it works fine, why are they playing games with this product?Honestly, I can't be the only person with a pile of equipment that has an Ethernet port, but not wireless (or broken/sub-par wireless, or the desire to use wake-on-lan wirelessly, or some a number of other gotcha situations). I was ready to buy 2-3 of these, if they worked as bridges -- it's back to the search for me. :-(

This is my first wireless-n and gigabit router. So far the speeds are awesome, way better than my AirPort Express. But thats where it ends.CONS:-Set up with a static IP (which I had no idea I had) from basic Comcast cable internet service was annoying. Not plug and play or easy by any means. Apple AirPort, you just plug it in and it works.-Wireless has cut out now a few times. I reset the router and it is back up and running.-WPA works on my Macs, WEP works on my Linux machines, but I cannot for the life of me get them both working on either WPA or WEP together. Again, my little dead AirPort Express did this just fine.-This thing is huge. The biggest waste of space I have seen in a 4 port router in a long time. With its size you should have about 12 ethernet ports in the back and still have room.PRO:-Its fast-Web based admin is nice in that its platform independent. Though, this is the same crap interface from my last netgear from 5 years ago.-The status lights on the front are nice, the useless ones at the top are just that. Wish it was a load indicator or activity or something.-The price is pretty decentAll in all, I might not buy it again. I like it enough to keep it for now (12 hours in) but probably will stay clear next time and most likely not buy a netgear again. I can't believe I would say it but I will take the overly locked down, proprietary software/hardware, Mac requiring, overpriced Apple product over a netgear for simple ease of use and reliability.EDIT:The router no longer works and only did for the first 36 hours. Returning this pile and getting a router that of course costs twice as much, but then again, you get what you pay for.

Unlike the 834, the 3500 drops my wireless connection on a regular basis, forcing me to unplug it and reboot. Very annoying. I've tried contacting Netgear without success. The company provides email support, but no one seems willing to respond to queries. I went to an online forum for Netgear and read that the company had outsourced customer support to India or Indonesia or someplace like that and that support is now nonexistent, which explains why I've been unsuccessful in getting any help with this problem.Given the above, I cannot recommend this product.

It would not register an IP address and I had all my DSL account info handy. After a 2-hour call with tech support, I was online. However, my laptop was no able to pick up the wireless signal. It kept getting a phantom signal. Long story short, I returned it for a refund and addes a D-link DI634m Wireless N router which i am very pleased with so far.

I have tried each and every netgear pcmcia wireless card, I have come back to this one. All of the more recent ones such as wpn511 (no 't), wg511t,wg511u, and countless others do not perform as well as the wpnt511 Netgear Wireless Adapter. If configured correctly, you will immediately notice a speed increase in your download(and browsing) speed, you can try it on speakeasy.net/speedtest website. This is the deal however, you should try to avoid using netgear's built in utilty for configuring the card. If you Do use the netgear internal utility, look in task mgr with your browser open to a page, but idle. You will notice wpnt511.exe is a bit of a resource hog, using about 9000kb of memory. If you are familar with windows internal zero config utilty, use that instead with this card, you will not see that resource hog wpnt511.exe in task mgr any longer. By the way, if you have successfully selected and are able to use windows zero config utilty, go to start, run, type msconfig in the run box then hit enter. Go to the startup tab on the rt that comes up with the system config utility, make sure wpnt511.exe in Unchecked, if it is not, uncheck it, hit close, then reboot, put the check mark in the system config utility box so that that window does not appear each time you reboot(check 'do not show this message again') I have purchased this cd from amazon(refurb) for 8.00+ shipping and it works perfectly rt out of the box. (if you do not have the driver install package for this cd, go to netgear.com, type in search box there wpnt511, then cl on support, there is only one driver download for this, download it to your desktop, follow instructions, choose netgear wizard built in utility to scan for open networks if that's your thing, then later on use the msconfig command as detailed here to improve your performance and conserve your memory especially if you are using an older laptop w windows xp and 515 mb ram like myself. Despite its one flaw described above(resource hog) I highly recommend this wpnt511 card is the best card for use with an older p4 or p4m laptop with windows xp pro os. I believe it is still the best of netgear at this date: 6-26-08. Good luck.

This router worked fine for me for a couple of months then started dropping the connection about three minutes after turning on my laptop. After days of searching online and consulting Netgear's technical forums, I could not find a fix for it. There is a seven page thread about this problem on Netgear's own tech forum. It is very telling that this seven page thread does not contain a single reply from a Netgear technician. I have to recommend that buyers steer clear of this product.

tried the netgear to replace my Actiontec DLS modem and router. Big mistake, I follow all the manual instruction of upgrade firmware, input DSL provdier password and name and then no internet, no wireless and after 5 hours of trying to work it out, finally revert back to Actiontec modem and router but my shared landline is completely blown, no dial tone, and the line is busy. Apparently, Netgear modem in setting up the lines did something to my share landline which worked perfectly with Actiontec but now even reverted back to the original modem and router, still no signal from shared landlines.so be careful in upgrading to this product from Verizon. Hopefully, this review will save you some headache and having to call and paid for a Verizon technician to fix the landlines. By the way, I have tried all the tricks in the trade of unplugging the phone lines ,recycling the router and modem. so now, I have only DSL and internet and no landlines. Setting up a dsl modem and router should not this difficult.

I've had and used this WG111 for years, and it does exactly what it's supposed to do. The "Netgear Smart Wizard" works fine, and has a useful and informative interface; Windoze Zero-Config works fine with this adapter as well. Sure, it is only WEP capable, but doesn't that stand for Wired-Equivalent Protection? This is a retail, portable product; 802.11G max; not really an enterprise solution needing enterprise protection. I remain satisfied, but if I were seeking a USB WiFi solution now, I'd probably make the leap into the N world.

Already have a great Motorola G router wifi gateway, but needed faster for my PS3 for online gaming. I had just had a horrendous experience with the D-link DGL-4500 trying to do the same (see my other reviews lol) so I returned it and bought this set. Hooked up easily, and pretty much worked right out the box which was great since I previously had 9 hours of nightmares with the D-link. It did what it advertised, made a seperate bridge and did not interfere with the Motorola which I was already running a desktop and 2 laptops from. Very easy to use, nice manual and support, nice product. Only negative was that they are ugly, have to be mounted verticaly (built in antenna) and no external antenna option, hiding them reduced range, they like to be up and seen lol. I did call customer service as I was getting some disconnects. They where friendly, but we figured out that not the 3 room distance, but the 5 walls was a little too much. Darn it as my 2.5 mhz stuff could read fine, but alas, as others have written, 5mhz does have less range. I moved this a little closer (4 walls) and it worked great, but was not feasible. I soon painstakenly ran my own 100ft ethernet cable and am zooming fine now, but alas, waited too long to return these. So, if you need a bridge with speed and without too many complications and you don't need long range or have too many walls, I would recomend this product. If you need range than I would say look for a good 2.5mhz bridge/system. Peace, Big Daddy Ron AKA ps3 BIGDADDYRON1961

Bought the unit for about a week and it's not reliable at all: connection drops about every 3h, range and speed bellow expected for a 300Mbps. The unit also randomly resets sometimes. Did FW upgrade, still not working.Got back to my old Linksys WRT54G...

I bought this router a week ago and it is running great. It seems to be in the middle of g and n routers as far as speed goes. I had to manually set this up because the included software only supported 32 bit Vista and I have 64. I had to log into the router itself to change settings and setup the security, it wasn't that difficult. My house is 60 feet long and the signal covers that with no problem, upstairs and down. My daughter thinks her friends router is a little faster but it was double the price. So far I've had no problems and the price was reasonable.

I needed to buy a new wireless access point because the Link Sys I had... well... stank. It would lock up and need to be rebooted at least once per day if not more.I bought this one and got it hooked up in about half an hour or so. I've had it a few weeks now and I have not needed to reboot it one time. So, why the four stars? I only wish they had put as much thought into the instructions as they did the access point. In a lot of the steps, they only tell you to do things without actually telling you how to do them. I needed to use Google to do some of the steps like changing my IP address. It also doesn't give you a lot of help on the security set up, but luckily I have done that part before and I just set it to look like my old one.All in all, it is a good little access point, they just need to put some more effort into their instructions.

This really is a superb system for networking. For a basic user, the setup could not be more simple. I placed both devices in the same room next to one another and connected one to my router and went off from there. Really no need to use the software at all -- you push a few buttons and you're done (unless you want to do a more advanced setup, but this is not needed). Once I new everything was communicating, I put one device upstairs and one down. I recommend near center in your house if possible. The range throughout my home is fantastic. Upstairs I have the router and a TiVo connected. Downstairs I have a TiVo and an Xbox 360. Everything worked instantly with no hassle. If I have one gripe, it is this: All of the advertising material for this product states it is compatible with the Wii. This is false, or at least very misleading. The Wii cannot connect to a 5Ghz signal. Netgear Support will tell you that it is compatible if you use it as a network bridge and hard-wire the Wii into the WNHDEB111. The problem is that the Wii has no network port. To add a network port to a Wii, you must buy a USB Network Adapter for an MSRP of $24.99. So, while it is true that the Wii can be connected, additional hardware and cost is required to do so. So, out of the box, this device is not compatible with the Wii.For me, I have a wireless G router which is still broadcasting. The Wii is connected wirelessly to this 2.4Ghz signal and now the new signal at 5Ghz connects all other devices in my home. So, to conclude: fantastic signal, speed, and setup -- Wii support is false.
