I bought this product to replace an outdated Linksys WUSB54G adapter and to match up with my MIMO router. The product manages to do what its supposed to, sort of.Pros:Versatile - Can be used with or without a USB extension cable, so small it is easily portable. When it was connected, throughput was extremely high.Decent range, 75% signal strength over ~100ft. and through one wall.Cons:Device gets excessively hot.Inconsistent performance.Poor device support. When download speeds peaked, at over 22400 (2.8mb/s roughly) the device would cause the system to hang. A check at the Netgear forums revealed that I was not the only member with this issue, so I got the latest device drivers from the website. After installing them, I fired up a few files and for the first ten minutes or so all seemed well. Suddenly the device failed and lost connection to the router. A quick check elsewhere revealed it was only this device that failed, and now I experience near constant disconnects when throughput gets anywhere over 500kb/s. Same issue occurs with multiple systems.Tech support was unhelpful in resolving my issue.I would recommend the Linksys WUSB300N over this item, as I have had no problems since switching over, it installs in seconds, and I get a much stronger more consistent connection than what I have ever maintained with the WPN111.

First, take any review (even this one) with "grain of salt".Some of the objectionable ones here do not mention their OS, their system if updated, router type and brand, laptop or desktop, interference (under desk, ductwork or type of walls in path or floors from router, doing proper installation, devices that could interfere like cordless phones, cellphones, appliances, external radiation from location...)all this factors in as wifi is NOT the end to all means.Second, BEFORE you even connect this to your USB port, visit Netgear's website for download of LATEST driver for your system. Latest drivers I found are from Jan 2006 ver 1.1.You'll be surprised that inventory doesn't mean it was stocked last month. ALWAYS check the site first. Put files on a USB key or burn to CD if you can't get on the net from machine you are installing from. Makes sense, huh?Third, install the software BEFORE you connect the device. Make sure you have the correct settings for your router (hopefully a Rangemax or other Netgear, but not required brand) such as SSID, WEP or preferred WPA2-PSK key settings for connecting and login.Lastly, make sure to secure that wifi. There are laws that make you the liable if someone uses your connection because it is wide open. Mapping to MAC address plus WPA2-PSK is pretty solid. Please, read the manual if you aren't familiar with wifi setup. Or get someone to assist and show you. You can even have settings for different locale and wifi networks. This item worked for me with verygood-excellent range being on second floor of big home (atleast 30 feet from Rangemax router) and plugged into the back of a custom PC running WinXP Pro SP2.

So I've had one of NetGear's first routers, the MR814 and haven't been too impressed. The NG's wireless card that I got back in the day was so bad I returned it. In my house which is 3200sq ft and the walls are filled with insulation, getting range is a huge problem. So I did a lot of research and read various articles and for range it comes down to Belkin's Pre-N or NG's RangeMax router. From the comparisons if you want just sheer raw speed and maximum distance the Belkin was the way to go as long as you also used their Pre-N cards. I don't care for N, I've got 3 laptops with internal wireless cards, 2 PCs, and an Xbox in the house and the NetGear RangeMax wins when it comes to extending range for existing b and g devices. At the extreme end of my house where the TV is (compared with the location of the router) I could barely maintain a signal with the 802.11b router I had, 1Mbps connection at best. With the RangeMax at this same location my signal strength drops to only 80%, everywhere else is a full 100%.The other thing is VPN. I've found with some routers, specifically the MR814, some VPN software (e.g Nortel's client) has troubles making a connection to the vpn gateway, and even if you do connect to it (wirelessly) the speed isn't that great. I found with the RangeMax my VPN issues went away; it was like having the speed of when I'm at work. I also found that XBOX games are very sensitive to settings; I used to have to endlessly tweak my other router to prevent choppiness. With the RangeMax it worked perfectly out of the box.So I'm a happy camper. The main drawback I found was setup. It's designed for a total newbie/non technical person. For hard core tech users you'll find it frustrating getting past it's huge desire to make you run their setup wizards. Even though you can go directly to the admin screen, it still wants to do a bunch of detection nonsense, when I'd prefer to just set all the settings myself because I know what they have to be.My friend with the Belkin Pre-N said his setup was a breeze. But really you have only two choices if you want to do the multiple antenna MIMO route. The Routers using the AirGo Wireless chips (Belkin, LinkSys), or the Video54 chips (NetGear RangeMax). Realistically who cares about 108Mbps when your internet connection at home is 4Mbps at best (380Kbps-754Kbps for most people). Also for those that complain about not being able to replace the antenna. Ya that's a strategy used for single antenna routers. The RangeMax has 7 antennas (internal).. so if you had your way you'd add 7 powered antennas?!? On the AirGo routers like the Belkin you'd have to replace 3... that's adding a lot more wires (from A/C adapters) when you're trying to be wireless. But once you get past that you're rock'n and roll'n. Plus it has this funky blue dome on the top with an array of LEDs that blink with activity.. It's all star trek like n stuff, kinda cool in the dark to watch when you're really bored. :)Summary: Max Range + Max Speed + Max Budget - use the Belkin Pre-N router and replace all your wireless cards with Belkin Pre-N ones.ORMax Range on 802.11b/g cards - use the NetGear RangeMax.

**Update at the bottom**I must admit this is the worse networking product I've seen, and I don't know how Netgear product QA could have passed this for sales. There are several major issues with this product:1. It stops sending beacons on both radios on a random basis. This causes wireless connectivity to drop. The only way to solve the issue is to reboot the router. I used a wireless sniffer to see if the router was sending out beacons, and it wasn't.2. WAN connectivity drops frequently. The router recovers by itself, but I can lose WAN connectivity up to over a minute and this problem can happen quite often. I use my VoWLAN application all the time and my calls always drop. When WAN connectivity is not available, I have no problem pinging the router or accessing the router's config page. Then, I found Netgear techsupport to be totally hopeless. My support calls always end up somewhere in India. Although the techsupport technicians were always polite, their lack of ANY networking and 802.11 skills proved them to be useless. They could offer nothing other than instructions to reconfig the router and a case number. They didn't know what I was talking about when I told them the router stopped sending beacons, and of course they wouldn't have an idea about the difference between TKIP and AES when I asked them if the key resets were causing the router to freeze. Also, there is no way to escalate the case to anyone. The techsupport person asked me to return the router.Overall, I found this to be an extremely unpleasant experience. I have other Netgear products that are more simple in design and I never ran into issues like this. This is very unfortunate as I thought Netgear has good products. One last note, it doesn't matter what code you put on the router. I tried everyone of them, and none of them solved my issues.**Update** -- I ran some research on this product and found a D-Link router using the same WLAN chipset is also suffering from the same problems. Is it a coincidence? Or is there a problem with the underlying Atheros chipset?

Just about the only thing good about this unit is how easy it is to setup. This AP is not worth paying extra for. I have personally demoted this "business class" AP to home use...which sadly doesn't even perform well in such conditions where multiple wireless stations are present in the environment (as with all multi-dwelling unit/condos)...even when it is literally less than 20 ft away. Contant constant connect/disconnects make it extremely unreliable. The "auto-cell" feature, which was a major reason for purchase, is deprecated. New firmware doesn't even have it (non-existent in the v2 release of this product).I'm not saying this unit doesn't work, it does, but it offers nothing more than a standard AP costing much much less. There are some features such as VLANs and maybe if that's a key requirement, then it can work for you (v2 models). However, if you're looking for performance/reliability basics in "harsh" environments, you will do just as good, or poorly, with any other "standard" home use AP.

I've had this router for a year or so, and I keep it very busy. Those that have posted bad reviews may have known what they were doing, but your success with this or any wi-fi router depends a bit on the compatibility with the wireless cards you are using. In my case, I found out the chipset in this router is Atheros, so I bought a wireless card with that same chipset, an 802.11a/b/g combo card. The same chipset in the card and the router means I get rock-solid connectivity, and it NEVER drops. This is the first "good" wireless connection I've had, and I've tried several miniPCI and PC cards (miniPCI) with several different routers (Linksys, D-Link, netgear). Having 802.11a is great - the speed and range is plenty adequate for my needs (all over the house and on the patio), and I can use 2.4GHz phones and they wont interfere with the network (802.11b/g uses 2.4GHz range and can cause decreased range/speed). The Netgear WGU624 does a great job!

I have had no problems. The GUI app from Realtek is not the best designed but for the price its ok. I have used it on a secured and unsecured, and both Mac and PC networks. Be sure to get WG111v2 which uses the chipset from Realtek.

June 3, 2005: While I was pleased with the router in the beginning, my WGT624v2 has been giving me wireless connectivity problems for months.I have been having a problem where I am getting high response times (high pings) only on my 2 wireless computers. My wired computers work fine.NETGEAR customer support has had me change many settings and tried to get me to start getting their "Premium Support" (i.e. fee based support). I will throw the router away before I spend $33 for 30 minutes of support. At the request of NETGEAR support, most settings have been reduced to minimal operations, including not running in either 108mbps mode and just using the basic b and g settings which doesn't give me 108mbps. I have even disabled aireless security. Everything ran well in this mode (with NO 108mbps) for nine days.I then switched to "108mbps only" mode and after 2 days I started to get high pings on only my 2 wireless computers.I will spend another week or so testing and if NETGEAR won't give me a new router then I will go buy another one to test. If it works, then I will return the old one to NETGEAR with or without an RMA. If the new router does the same thing, then I plan to return it and go buy another brand. I will post my results.Customer support needs to be more responsive.June 13, 2005: It appears that the advertised wireless rate of 108mbps is just a THEORECTICAL RATE and the device doesn't even come close. So if you are like me and want the speed of WIRED and think this will do it - WRONG.ALso, to get their "108mbps" rate you need to use NETGEAR routers AND adapters or you will just be able to get the "54mbps" rate. Also, I can't get the router to work in "108mbps" mode without disconnects and high pings. I bought another NETGEAR WGT624 router to test and it dropped the network after 2 days and again in about an hour - apparently due to overheating. I returned that one. To even try another vendor's 108mbps gear I would be forced to replace my router and the 3 pc adapter cards. As a package, the NETGEAR 108mbps items are not what I thought I was getting. Although, it did work well in "g and b" (54mbps or less) mode but not at all in "Super g" (108mbps) mode.I am now in the process of fishing wire through my house to get to the wireless computers. I will then TURN OFF WIRELESS and use wires to obtain the 100mbps rate that wires can support.December 31, 2005I now have wires run to four computers, so my need for wireless has greatly deminished. I need wireless for PSP and Xbox devices as well as visitors with laptops. When I do need wireless access, I have found that the router loses connectivity when I use WPA security. So I now allow wireless access based on MAC address and have shut off WPA. The router is extremely stable running in b and g mode only and with WPA off. It's sort of a lousy way to operate a router. It's my workaround until I purchase a next generation router, which will NOT be from Netgear. If I were to buy a router today it would be the Belkin F5D8230-4 Wireless 802.11x Pre-N Router.

Since I wasn't sure at first if the problem was the adapter or the router, I replaced one of the adapters with an internal PCI wireless ethernet card. Highly recommended router.Don't fall for this Netgear knocking because you're not seeing comments from happy customers.I bought this router from Amazon. The first one was DOA but I have never had a DOA Netgear router before and I've been installing WIFI professionally since 2000 for home and business (Netgear and any other brands you can think of).Netgear support was extremely responsive. That was a 10 minute call. Exchange with Amazon was smooth but of course it's a hassle packing the thing up and mailing it.Got replacement and as I expected it is an awesome router and solved my connection problems in every room of a 4 story house. I've never had anyone complain to me about this router. I've installed over 20 of them for different customers before and after I bought my own. The lack of problems is why I bought it for myself. If you have issues with your connection get yourself a Netgear WPN511 card or desktop adapter to go with this router.Note: Don't expect to see 108Mbps speed because you won't see it. 54 Mbps is the typical speed. Have found that trying to change WIFI strength or speed settings at the router is not worth the trouble.

So far I'm pretty happy with my RangeMax Access Point. It covers every area of my house and and works great with the PowerLine ethernet adapters I just bought. The setup of the access point was not as easy as it could have been, though. The instructions require you to go through a fairly strange process of connecting the access point to a single computer set up with a fixed IP address. This is not so hard to do, really, if you have any experience with setting up networking, but for an inexperienced user this could be difficult. Also, very strangely, once I had my access point all set up and working and connected to the rest of my network, I could no longer reach the setup screens using the IP address given in the instructions. If I need to change my setup, it looks like I'll have to hit the tiny reset button and start over. One other complaint is that the wall wart that powers this thing is a monster! It must weigh two pounds. If I had that sucker plugged directly into a wall socket, I'd be worried about the plugs coming loose over time because of the weight. I strongly recommend that you plug this into a powerstrip or extension such that it lays flat on the ground so that all that weight is not pulling on the plugs. One further complaint--the flashing blue light everyone else complains about here is pretty silly if you want your access point to be unobtrusive. And the plastic cover they include in the packaging is a joke--clearly an afterthought in the design process. It's a flimsy little disk with a sticker on it. Very silly.Still, once I got the thing set up, the RangeMax Access Point worked great, and that's the important thing. These other issues are small and easy to deal with.

Sluggish performance, constant calling out to DNS (other cards don't so why would this ione need to?)ZERO starts, unusable but not heavy enough to be a doorstop. I just have to smile at some of the terrible information some people, who havemn't really read the instruction and don't really know what they are doing with this card. The BIGGEST thing to kmnow about this great card is NOT TO INSTALL IT UNTIL YOU INSTALL THE NETGEAR SOFTWARE ! This is with XP P2 home.Read the instructions.Don't mess with the Windows software at all. Remember that Rangemax, like all "Extended G" formats aer proprietary, and thefore, alwayas use the Netgard software.1. Put the CD in and install software.2. Do a shutdown.3. Install the PCI Rangemax Adapter - WPN311.4. Bring the system back up.5. The sofware will immediately greet you after XP comes up. Then go through selecting the wireless router to connect to. Make sure the settings are coordinated with the router. Always a goo idea to have some security on it,like encryption, that would have to be initiated from the Router.6. To maximize the use of the "Rangmax" features of the adaptor card, make sure that you have purchased a Netgear Rangemax router to take advantage of the Rangemax "enhanced G" features.I have a Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router (WPN824)and it is working great with the Netgear Rangmaz adapters.7. I am purchasing another adapter, but I can tell you the two I have, are connected to XP SP 2 PCs that are on another floor, at two ends of the room downstairs and they are runing at a solod 108mbs. I have noot have to restart the router or the adapters. No more cables. I personally am right next to the router and my Cable modem, so I am connected to one of the four ethernet ports, and my connection works smoother and faster than my Linksys Ethernet router I was using before. No need for signal enhancers, additional anthing.FOLLOW THE DIRECTION, LITTERALLY AND REMEMBER TO LOAD THE CD AND NETGEAR SOFTWARE FIRST, BEFORE INSTALLING THE PCI CARD.I learned that the hard way, although it was higlighted in the documentation.

During the installation of the software on my PC running Windows 2000 Server, the installation program froze my PC completely. I had to turn off the PC, and now it does nothing when I turn it on. The lights on the front light up, but nothing happens at all. I called Netgear, waited on hold for 15 minutes, and then was connected to a gentleman whose English was not very good. I explained my problem about 5 times before he seemed to get it. He told me that the problem is that the product is not compatible with Win 2000 Server. I told him that I had never before encountered a piece of software that ran on 2000 Pro, but not 2000 Server (perhaps there are some), but he insisted that this was the case. I explained that, typically, installation programs that encounter and incompatible operating system would display a message to the user, and exit, rather than freezing and disabling the computer, but he held firm, and advised me that there was nothing he could do to help, and that he recommended that I contact my computer vendor so that they could restore my initial configuration.I went around and around with this fellow, then finally asked for his supervisor. After another 15 minutes on hold, another guy came on the line, who was pretty fluent in English. He explained his understanding of the situation, which was still wrong, and I explained the whole thing again to him. He had me turn the computer on and off, which of course I had already done several times, and check the monitor connection. After this analysis, he determined that the situation could not possibly have been the result of the frozen software installation that occurred just prior to it, and must be some other problem with my PC that had previously been working perfectly, that, coincidently, occurred at the exact same time as the software freeze. I expressed skepticism towards this explanation, and asked him if he would believe that if it was his PC. He said that absolutely he would, and reassured me that there was NO POSSIBLE WAY, (emphasis his) that his software could have caused these symptoms.Since I understood that it would be difficult for him to actually fix a computer in this state over the phone, I suggested that I could take it to a local technician, and send Netgear the bill for repairing my system. He declined that offer. So, at the end of the day, I'm left with a dead PC, but, according to Netgear, a perfectly good wireless card and installation CD.No more Netgear for me, thank you!

I bought this product (and paid a premium for it) last April, largely based on the excellent online reviews and its fast, long-range wireless capability. It has been a major disappointment. The only way I've been able to use it reliably is by disabling its wireless support and using only the (wired) ethernet ports. I've only been able to get the wireless port working intermittently for one of three of my PCs (two notebooks and a desktop). It either repeatedly drops and reconnects -- even at 15 feet away (Dell Inspiron 8200 w/ 802.11b) or connects for two minutes then locks up the router (Toshiba Portege M400 w/ 802.11g). I am a software engineer and am very patient with technology, but this device has tested my limits. I've tried many forms of "black magic" over countless hours (firmware, software, and driver updates, OS/Network settings, disabling firewalls/anivirus, online support, etc. etc.) but all to no avail. To top things off, I couldn't even couldn't get Netgear's own RangeMax Wireless PCI card to connect from my desktop PC. I've been cut by this "bleeding edge" technology, and now must find a wireless router that actually works.

We missed with several linksys products but hit well with netgear WN802T rangemax next access point and WPN111 usb adaptor at 54mb using wpa-psk in a concrete/drywall, warehouse/office environment with a lot of noise that even 100mb cat5 wire cant connect over 20ft. Lots of wireless traffic here but no problems with connection. Workstations are on 24 hours a day and can get real hot when ac off. WPN111 has had no overheat problems and not one dropped connection yet. Consistent excellent strength. Very happy with WPN111. We are also happy with netgear WGPS606 bridge which we use to bridge wireless to wire, to connect linux and sun computers and unix printers with no (working) wireless drivers. Netgear WG111 usb 54mb adaptor was a total loser with no connection or consistent dropped connections. Its amazing how widespread these performance issues are even with the same manufacturer. We tried dlink wireless 108g stuff, but it was not reliable enough for us to be comfortable with. Would drop connection from time-to-time even though strength was excellent. We do use dlink cable/dsl router (firewall has real packet filtering, not just port forwarding) and switches which works great. Did not like netgear or linksys routers.

There is simply no driver for this adapter to connect to an access point with WPA2 turn on. If you are only connecting with WEP it's OK. You get what you paid for.----------As FilG pointed out the manufacturer does noted that this device is only "Hardware-based 40/64-bit & 128-bit WEP encryption". Add back 2 stars to this rating.

I bought two of these for my church. I struggled with these products for 4 months before finally convincing the VAR to let me return them. There are severe bugs in the firmware and possibly the hardware. I went through 4 RMAs with Netgear before giving up on the product. Technical support was great but engineering just couldn't come through with a fix. Look at the forums before purchasing to make sure that the issues have been addressed.

This works very well with my Netgear Rangemax wireless router. I replaced an older D-Link Wireless Router and find I get better results by staying with the same brand for both sending and receiving signals. Of course, like all wireless devices you have to try many positions to reach over 80 feet. I will eventually switch to the newer "N" equipment once it has been available of a couple of years.

I allowed my fourteen year old install it on his system. It failed. He didn't get the slip which notes that you have to accept the unsigned device or Windows won't allow installation. The warning slip isn't part of the instructions. That was a pain. Finally I lucked onto the solution, I searched for new connected hardware in the control panel. Windows xp found the new device and I clicked on past the problem window, just accept it and it will work flawlessly. They need to update the instructions until such time they can get Microsoft to approve their device. It's been running now about three days. Hooked on a four foot cord and they supply velcro to paste it somewhere out of the way. I pulled it up on to the desk hutch and stuck it there. It has a cool blue blinking light when it's working, very nice.Software setup is a breeze. You won't believe wireless until you try it. I'm glad I didn't have to drill holes all through my two story home!Price is good too. Bruce

I bought this, plus the companion XE102, at another web site. I was prepared for troubles, particularly since a got a refurbished set at a bargain price. However, all the setup, including adding WEP security, was accomplished quickly with no fuss - and I'm the kind of guy who attracts trouble when it comes to network configuration. Everything worked the first time. The range is pretty good, too.I gave it just three stars because the throughput is much slower than when I connect instead to my regular Netgear wireless router. Still way faster than dialup, but photos on cnn.com "paint" onto the screen instead of popping onto the screen. Some of this may be due to the fact that my house is about fifty years old and some of the electrical wiring is questionable. Still, I'm pleased to have coverage at the far end of the house without any hassle.

The brilliant folks at Netgear sell this lovely wireless adapter w/o the driver to run it. Of course they include in the package a big bold note saying you can download the driver from their website. But wait! The function of the wireless adapter is to connect to the Internet. Duh! No driver, no Internet! Brilliant way to save a nickel!

I've been using the router for a few months and, after the first couple of months, I would have rated the router 5 stars. When it works, it does significantly extend the signal range. One day I suddenly lost connectivity, only to my laptop. Level 1 technical support was horrible. It was difficult to understand the agent. He said my problem was software related and, since Netgear software support is only good for 30 days, I must pay for "software support" to resolve my problem.I insisted on being transferred to level 2 support who was very helpful and knew some tricks to get me going again (changing the SSID to force the wireless nics to reconfigure)It worked fairly well on Channel 1 for a while (area is congested with other wireless routers on 6 and 11) until I bought a new laptop and tried to connect. My new HP laptop uses Intel's 3945ABG wireless adaptor and this WPNT834 router apparently doesn't like it. The router persistently locks up when this laptop is connected, requiring a hardware reset. Whenever the laptop is turned off, the router works fine. Ironically, the laptop easily connects to a neighbor's wireless router that is half a block away.I dread making another call to Netgear tech support. They're sure to tell me it's a software issue again and I'm not donating any more money to them.

I bought this since it's economical, compact, didn't need cabling (although it has an extension if you need it), advertised a whopping 108 mbps. Well so much for that:1) Drivers are problematic and causes conflicts with XP SP2. My first ever blue screen of death in about 3 or more years running XP came this item2) It is EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE:- already mentioned repeatedly, it overheats- it drops connections randomly and yes, the only way to re-acquire the signal is to unplug and plug back in- It's utility is worthless, just install the driver (if you can). If you try using WPA, forget about using this utility, just use Windows to configure it.- I've also found out that it's better if you just remove this utility from the STARTUP (don't run it at all) so that Windows can do everything it needs to connect, which is faster and more reliable. Be careful not to UNINSTALL, since it will also remove the driver...just remove it from your Windows Startup folder list. Netgear has an FAQ about this problem, but I'm not going to tweak Windows and risk more stuff for this cheap piece of hardware.3) 108 MBPS? Yeah right. You'll need the RIGHT KIND OF access point/wireless router for this, if not, it's 54 mbps. This was one of the selling points, but it's definitely a "gotcha". You're limited to specfic equipment, specific channel (6), so if you have neighbors on the same channel, well, you get the picture.

WPN824: (aka WPN824v1)- Everything works fine as long as I don't play World of Warcraft (WoW) with the wireless. Otherwise, the router crashes and then loses all the connections. You can't even go to the NetGear router page either. And you can't go Internet without rebooting the router.- A wide regions supported including UK, Asia, Austraila, Europe and etc.- The antenna blue lights cannot be off unless you turn off the wireless signal broadcast (meaning no wireless). Luckily, a black plastic cover is provided for this.WPN824v2:- no issue with wireless when I play WoW.- Wireless coverage range is larger than v1, about at least 10 feet away. V2 signal is much stronger than V1.- Only one region supported: United State. So you want to carry this to another country, you'd better not to have the v2 version.- On/off switch provided to turn on/off the antenna blue lights.I don't find any issue on port forwarding, dynamic dns and remote management.

I bought the Netgear Rangemax 240 wireless router for my home network to speed up the wireless communication, increase wireless range so I can work outside on the patio and increase the security by having WPA-2. Unfortunately, my Netgear 108 Mbps USB device didn't support the higher security level and I had to download a Beta driver, a driver which wouldn't communicate with the Rangemax 240.So, I bought the Rangemax 240 wireless adapter. Then everything seemed to be great. Speed and range are both excellent. The hitch? My Vonage VOIP, which worked flawlessly with my Netgear 108 Mbps wireless router was unusable, rendering both voice and fax useless. I had to reinstall my 108 Mbps to get things working while I tried Netgear support. So far, Netgear support has responded to my inquiries with some dispatch, but none of their sugegstions worked. Vonage told me it wasn't their problem, talk to Netgear. After many attempts at fixes (including DMZ's, and other exotic steps including turning off the Vonage linksys router firewall), I got Vonage VOIP to work with my Netgear Rangemax 240 only by turning off the Rangemax router's firewall -- I have read that this isn't a huge security breach issue since I don't broadcast my wireless network, have security passwords, WAP2, and use software firewalls, but am not really sure. Netgear support did not suggest solution, I had to figure it out by trial and error on my own. So, I am still communicating with Netgear trying to figure out how to fix things and hopefully have my Netgear router's firewall operative. But for the Vonage VOIP issue, this would be a 5 star rating. I am puzzled why my older Netgear router worked with Vonage without a hitch but not this one. But that is high-tech and the price early adopters pay.

Wow, I have had this up and running for less than a day and I am extremely giddy. I am seeing speeds that are almost identical to my wired ethernet connection. By utilizing some free online speed tests, I tested my laptop connection and my wired desktop connection with pretty much the same download speeds. I have a 15MB Fiber Optic line through Verizon FIOS, and my laptop is zooming now with this thing. I bought the matching PC card and I am seeing 168MBs at over 60 feet from the router. That's not to say that the speed doesn't vary, usually between 108MBs to 170MBs. It says it is connected at 240MBs, but either way, it's fast at this distance. I am supremely happy with the quick intall, and the speed. That being said, I am a bit perplexed at how the router cannot handle my internet connection directly. My old Rangemax router (WPN824) could take the ethernet cable directly from the wall and spit out the wireless connection. For some reason the new router needs the standard Verizon router inbetween for it to work. I hate adding components in the chain, but that's what it took to get it to work. I might tinker more with it later. Other than having a black antenna hanging out of my PC card slot on my laptop, this thing is working seamlessly with my Desktop, two Laptops, and my TIVO. Great Product.

I bought the RangeMax router along with two WPN111 and two WG111 USB adaptors.I am unimpressed with all of the USB adaptors. They seem to have significant issues with any sort of long-term connectivity, and were extremely difficult to even get working.Furthermore, installing the latest drivers for this product seem to break it, and stop it from communicating with the AP entirely. It took complete removal of all the drivers and re-installation of the old ones from the CD to get these adaptors working at all.The router is approximately 3 meters away from the adaptor with an uninterrupted line of sight. There's little or no EM interference, and yet the setup still only manages to get a signal strength of 65%.Recommended only for those that require ease of use, such as occasionally connecting a laptop to the wireless network. For anything else, get a better device.

It's not reliable. Although it does extend for a fair range, and I've maxed out my DSL at 320 kb/s, it tends to overheat and cut the connection. I've even tried juryrigged cooling, but I suspect it's insulated inside so it's kind of in a pressure cooker.I'm not going to buy another Netgear adapter after this. Seems like poor design.

Great product! I was happy to find this handy little gizmo. I wanted to set up a secondary computer on my home network, but didn't want the hassle of an internal device. I didn't know that such a device existed, but it was exactly what I wanted/needed and works flawlessly!Thank you, Netgear (and Amazon)!

It will work until you push it. So for example if you try copying files from one PC to another. It drops it's connection and you have to unplug it from the USB and reconnect it. Then it will work until next time it encounters a lot of demand for bandwidth.I've tried EVERY possible firmware and software update and configuration...it's just a poor design. Check the netgear discussion forums...everyone is having this problem and there is no solution. The unit also overheats. This is my first amazon review and I don't do a lot of complaining. But Neatgear shouldn't even be selling this product and I don't want to see more people get burned.

Netgear's WPN802 may not be necessary for everyone but it really works for me. Our Internet connection is through Direcway/Hughes satellite and a router won't work with it. A hub/switch and a wireless access point is required instead. Setup for the WPN802 was fairly straight forward using the enclosed paper Installation Guide. Configuring the desktop computer to communicate with the WPN802's IP address was all that was really necessary. After that the WPN802 was connected to the hub/switch and we were ready to go wireless.Netgear also provides a thorough manual on disk that provides additional information for more complicated setups. Overall I'm satisfied. The current $20 rebate also helps.
