Hey all,Usually don't do product reviews unless there is some benefit to the people out there browsing for the same product I did and wanted to give some updated information on Amazon's listing. For reference, I am a network administration so my level of technical knowledge is fairly high when it comes to this review.Amazon is shipping the Netgear RangeMax 150 Wireless Router version 3 which does not have an external antenna, however the version 3 has a superior designed internal antenna that hits at least 350 ft upon my testing. This unit while has "N" in the name does not actually provide "N" level of throughput. At most I'm seeing 63-70MB on throughput which is above the lowly 10-15MB I saw on my previous G router. This unit only has a 2.4GHz band and does NOT have the 5GHz band that is found on most "Wireless N" units out there. There is also no "MiMO" on this unit as well so you're not going to see blazing fast speeds you might find on another device. Again, most of you probably knew this as this is a budget router. My setup:Frontier FiOS Modem -> Netgear RangeMax 150 -> TrendNet Bridge (where my desktop connects)My FiOS connection is a 25 down/25 up connection and I have noticed a speed bump on my wireless devices + my bridge device. The setup and interface on the device is a breeze and offers a bevy of options including (to my surprise) allowing a guest network!Pro's:+ Wireless G + N "features" up to 150MB (theoretical)+ Easy setup and large number of options+ Guest Networking w/ LAN isolation+ Repeater capabilities to extend wireless network+ QoS & Parental controls+ WEP, WPA, WPA2 w/ AES+TKIP [standard options]Con's- Not "true" wireless N- Only 2.4GHz spectrum, doesn't include 5GHz band- 10/100 LAN ports- None flashable to DD-wrt, Tomato or Open-wrt [a con for some]- no user replaceable antenna- No USB connection for printer or file sharing [again, hardly a con for the price]Other thoughts: Having bought this for the Black Friday price of below $30 bucks, I really can't find fault with this router. Having it send signal to my wireless bridge and having anywhere from 5-15 wireless devices on it, I have not seen any slowness on my network since its addition. If you're looking for something to simply tide you over (like I was) until the next round of wireless devices hits the market next year, this is a great option for those looking to spruce up their infrastructure at home. It really does have enough options to give the term "budget" a run for its money.Link to Netgear's site for V3 product information: [...]

My hobby during the past 12 years of retirement has been breathing life back into older computers (335 to date) and giving them free to disadvantaged kids and their families. In that more and more school systems are coming to rely on the internet, WI FI has become nearly a necessity on computers used by those students. Of late I have needed a reliable, inexpensive dongle with good scabbing range because most of the computers I rework never had that capability. The different versions of the NETGEAR WG111 that have been offered over those years have proven to be exactly what I needed. I have never had a problem with any of the ones I have personally kept and used and have yet to receive a complaint about any of the ones I have given away. The CD that comes with it has managed to make any brand computer WI FI capable that I have installed it in. Also, the generous length cable supplied with the NETGEAR WG111 allows one to "seek" the best signal spot---like back in the Rabbit Ears era of TV. Using a parabolic reflector with the cable and dongle really helps boost the signal for whatever brand of router happens to be in the mix. I found that a dish of about 16 inch dia. with about a 4 inch depth allows the focal point to occur at about the line across the dish opening; so it's simple to run a piece of tape across the middle of the opening and stick the dongle to it in the middle. The best reflector I've found so far is the curved lid from a cooking Wak. A simple way to find the focal point of your reflector dish is: F = Dia squared over 16 times C. F is focal point. Dia. is the distance across the middle of dish opening, and C is the distance at the center of the opening down to the bottom of the inside center of the curved "dish"----aka parabolic reflector.I have absolutely no connection to or with NETGEAR----only my intention to give credit where credit is due. I wish you the same good results that I have experienced.

I replaced an old Wireless b router that kept dropping the connection. It was also a Netgear, and for the most part I loved it. I did notice though that my speeds were terrible, and decided that it was time for an upgrade. This router will occasionally drop the connection. The great thing is that I can reset it from my laptop computer. No longer do I have to go downstairs to the basement, pull the plug, wait, plug it in ... blah blah blah. I am not sure if it is just a windows 8 feature that you can do this, or if it is the router itself. The other thing that rocks is the push button WPS. I hated figuring out and typing in that long password to access the network. Especially on a phone or other device that did not have a keyboard. The push-button feature is the best thing ever.I feel that I am getting the true capability of my cable modem now. speedtest.net shows me at 26.32Mbps download and 4.18Mbps upload. Prior to this, it was about 5 download and 1.2 upload.I was leery of the refurbished at first, but it was only $30 - so I figured I couldn't lose much. It looked brand new out of the box, and it performs fantastic. Recommended product by me.

This Netgear N900 USB WiFi adapter sets up easily and takes advantage of my Netgear 900 router's high speed WiFi. My motherboard Ethernet port burned out on my desktop system. I purchase this WiFi adapter to get back on the Internet fully expecting it to be much slower than the direct connect 10/100/1000 port that used to work on my mother board. My 3 laptops top out at 23 mbits download speed, but this baby comes in at 45 to 50 mbits -- double the speed of my other built-in WiFi on my notebooks. It's every bit as fast as a direct connection--or at least it can keep up with my higher speed connection that I'm getting from Comcast. This a great WiFi adapter. No issues with setup. My Win7 64bit system recognized the adapter and easily loaded the drivers for it. No worries.

I recently bought this product due to the laziness of my ISP (Internet Service Provider). I am currently with At&t, whom provides great service, but they insist on sending me the same thing after countless calls due to its lack of wireless support. After many frustrating calls, I finally decided to search elsewhere. With hours and hours spent browsing the internet, I finally stumbled upon this Netgear modem. It was within my price range and the specs were amazing compared to previous modems. It came in the mail in about 3-5 days. Once the easy set-up was complete, I couldn't wait to test it out. I then discovered it was sending out two different networks (Netgear Broadband-N i believe and Netgear-2.4-G). After researching and scrambling through the manual to see if I had made an error during the set-up, I soon found out that one network (Netgear Broadband-N) was the faster of the two, but was only compatible with some of the mobile devices and the second worked fine for all of my devices. This is my 3rd week with it and I have seen nothing close to a problem with it and plus it looks cool next to my desktop. I would recommend this to anyone searching for a new modem.

I wrote a prior reveiw, but it seems to have disappeared. I have had intermittent issues with N functionality since buying this in Feb 2011. Despite help from Netgear CS over a long period of time, the thing just seems to have a mind of it's own if it will allow the N band to be visible, regardless of what devices are looking for it, any time since reset, whether SSID is visible or not with the same device, if allowed devices service is being used, etc. etc.... Some setting changes suggested by Netgear did help somewhat, but for no apparent reason as to this no rhyme-or-reason behavior. Reader responses were given serious consideration along with forum searches. Even with rebooting and resetting the router and exact same devices, the visibility of the network just seems to is a roll of the dice. When it works, it is great. When it does not, it keeps that mind-set until another day. G is fabulous and consistent, and has never behaved this way; but the idea behind N was to get away from some of G's channel congestion--and yes I am aware of the dual frequency issues of N. Intermittent problems with the exact same equipment and settings is very frustrating; it's always when you just want to sit down and relax to stream a movie.Giving up, I went through a lot of trouble just pulling a LAN connection through my house. I added a Netgear switch. Was that asking for more trouble? Any connected device will work for an hour or hours, then the LAN connection on any port of the router or switch will freeze with the LED on both ends flashing in a very rapid constant pattern. This condition does not exist in troubleshooting, nor do I see it happen in less demanding LAN use, such as the always LAN-attached desktop. But I don't sit at the desktop with heavy demands. Waiting for CS response. Buyers, if there are better options, I would have to say try them, if just for lack of answers, and similar reader reviews of the newer 3700. I have friends who are IT experts, and even they are just scratching their heads over this when visiting. I hung in there and now the warranty is over, and I feel the fool for doing so.

I had a WRT54-TM w/ DD-WRT v24 for years. Unfortunately, its wireless crapped out. I went to look for an alternative and found this device w/ N-wiress and a gigabit network + DD-WRT.I plugged the power and pushed the power button on the back. So far nothing into the WAN port just yet. I waited a minute and plugged in my laptop into one of the 4 LAN ports. On the laptop I opened a browser and went to the default 192.168.1.1 admin site. The DD-WRT website launched pretty instantly and asked me to provide a username and password for the future. It was the DD-WRT that I've known and loved + some minor differences around the USB port. I installed the config file from my old DD-WRT and unplugged it. After replacing this w/ the old router in terms of wires and location, everything worked as it used to from wireless, wired connections, dynamic dns, and UPnP.The negatives I see are that* this feels a little warm* and the front button doesn't do anything. I'd guess that w/ the original firmware, it was a way to enable/disable wireless.* the version of DD-WRT had a port forwarding loopback issue. This fix is to run Admin -> Command for your subnet: iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.10.0/255.255.255.0 -d 192.168.10.0/255.255.255.0 -o br0 -j MASQUERADE

It looks like a good deal on the surface - Wireless-N DSL units for super cheap - but basically these are defective models that have had so many returns they bulk sold them to a 3rd party distributor to get rid of the returns. Don't be fooled. The units display all the failings of the original reviews (search 'NETGEAR DGN2000 Wireless-N Router with Built-in DSL Modem' here on Amazon and note the 49 1-star reviews, which dominate the ratings). I tried it anyway because it was hella cheap, just to see if there was a real bargain going. Nah. The unit is overheating so badly (again, see prior reviews) that I can smell it from two rooms away. No wonder the contacts on the external ports are melting. And, it is a pre-spec Wireless-N unit with questionable compatibility with full-spec Wireless-N devices. My return is in progress now.

The first one was returned for replacement because it kept dropping. I've now been using the second on for about a week. The 5g band has a transmission rate much loser that expected. It's typically around 108, but sometimes drops into the 80's. Sensitivity is also not what I'd normally expect. I can get around 140 on the 2.4 band. I have a range extender and the distance from the extender to this PC is around 20 feet through one wall. I'm really considering sending this back and getting a Linksys AE3000. The primary reason I chose the Netgear was because I assumed better results since the router and extender are both Netgear.4/11/13-Started getting irregular speed and blue screens of death, so I'm returning the second adapter. Will try the Linksys AE3000.

My 2009 HP laptop began having issues with the wireless adapter. It would cut in and out continually. So, I began the hunt for a new laptop, but after a while it occurred to me that I can turn the internal wireless off and replace it with an external adapter. That led me to reviewing the availability of such devices. The market, as it turns out, is chocking with these things with all manners of fantastic operational claims, but also with a lot of negative user reviews. After hours of reading reviews, I decided to spend a little more and get one from a well known company. That finally led me to this Netgear model. Boy, am I glad I did.It was super easy to install. Netgear led me right through the set up and then into my secure network. The only trouble I had was realizing how the button and the light worked. Once I got it, it just worked. The unit is tiny, and does not generate heat. It just works.A great buy at a reasonable price that does what it promises!Great delivery Amazon! But, we were charged a delivery fee, which I negated by purchasing one more item that I basically got for free.Bernie

When my Netgear g home router died suddenly, I want shopping for not only a newer model but a beefier one, as well ... likely with dual band capabilities. I came across the Wireless Extreme for Mac and PC and decided to give it a go. I use a MacBook Pro, my families has several iOS devices around the house, and the wife has a Dell laptop. The ability to share a printer via Bonjour was a big draw. Setup for that printer on my Mac was (no surprise) a no-brainer. As soon as I went to Printers in Sys Prefs, my MBP saw my HP printer connected through the new router and I was in business. The Dell PC required a free download in order to support Bonjour printer services, but setup was painless. Once since my initial setup I had to reinstall the printer service on both computers. Not sure what that was about, except perhaps I changed some settings in the new router and the printer drivers needed to find the device again. Working fine now.The Extreme has powerful WiFi signals on both bands. It is located on the second floor of my wood frame, traditional home, and I can pick up both hi and low bands several hundred feet away from my house. Point is, inside the house, the signal is strong on every level of my home. Very pleased. Dual band is nice, in that I can connect my MBP to the router on the 5g band, and then connect all our smaller iOS devices on the lower 2.5g band. Not that traffic is a big issue in a one family dwelling; still, the two bands are nice when streaming movies, music, etc. Also, the guest network -- standard now on Netgear routers -- is a great feature. Allow your friends to connect with an easy password, but don't worry about someone connecting to your hardware or using your peripherals. The wireless isolation option is great for this. All in all, this is a robust home router and that is Mac friendly and -- not that this is paramount -- has a nice look about it. Sitting on the desk, it looks like it belongs among a host of Apple products.

Like a few of the other reviewers have said, does not work on my winXP desktop. I built it myself approx. 6 years ago and have kept it up to date ever since. Plugged it into my win8 laptop and worked fine. Also worked for the win7 desktops I built for my brother's shop. Although I can't use it for them for various reasons so it is useless to me. So my search continues.I originally gave this one(1) star but decided to bump it to two(2). This adapter did work with several computers I tested it on, just not the only one I needed it for. Two(2) stars may seem low for a working product but it did not work as advertised. I have since purchased a NETGEAR WNCE2001 Universal WiFi Internet Adapter - Manufacturer Refurbished (from amazon) that is working quite well. Detials on why I chose that one can be found in my review of it.

With the abundance of cheap router manufactures today you need to make sure you chose the right one. In this case Netgear is the wrong choice. Walking away from my Netgear purchase I have received a year of frustration and am already in the market for a new router. I need to replace the router not because it is frustrating but because it is unable to perform its core function: giving me access to the internet. Here is what you can expect when purchasing a Netgear router1) You can expect an internet connection to work reliably... while you are not using it. You can expect it to last about 5 minutes while you are using it. After the router fails to connect to the internet you can expect that it will continue to do so until you have given up trying to access the internet. Afterward your internet connection will be restored.2) You can expect that the router will be unable to update its firmware. Initiating the process of a firmware update will start with a progress bar, followed by a blank screen, eventually followed by a login screen. After logging in you can expect the firmware will be at the same version you started with.3) You can expect support to tell you that your router is working. According to Netgear support the only thing the router needs to do is turn on pretty blinky lights. All other functions are then assumed.4) You can expect your warranty to be worthless. Netgear routers are unavailable for RMA when support can determine that they are functioning properly. The only thing support needs to do to determine that they are functioning properly is verify the pretty blinky lights. It is not surprising then that the blinky lights always work when the router does not.5) You can expect zero support 90 days after purchase. Why 90 days? It happens to be the same period of time you can dispute a transaction with your credit card company. In short once they have your money they will not give you the time of day.6) After 90 days you can expect them to quite happily offer you support... if you buy it.Netgear's behavior has been very clear to me in that they have no interest in quality. If they could sell you a brick as a wireless router I think they would. The only reason they do not is most stores have a return policy of 30 days, and even after 90 days all credit cards allow you the end user to dispute transactions. So Netgear has only done just enough quality for the purchaser to use the product for 90 days. After that since they are guaranteed to have your money, they start asking for even more.In short my opinion Netgear is in no way interested in earning your money by making a product that is worth every dollar. Instead they perfectly happy taking as much money from you as they can while offering nothing in return. In my book a router that needs to be replaced after 90 days is nothing indeed.

I've been using this wireless router for almost a month, everything seems to be working fine so far. I have Comcast Economy Inetrnet service (i.e., basic cable service), this inexpensive device is on Comcast's list, that's why I bought it. My place is <1,000 sq ft. and I can get good connections in every room, for basic internet uses and for watching TV shows/movies online. While the product seems to be a fine one, Netgear's customer service is possibly the worst I've ever experienced - I am not going to provide all the details of how I was treated, you can get some ideas from other people's reviews. What I am going to share is, after multiple calls, finally, one operator was very professional and quickly connected me to a tech support personal who provides free service - NETGEAR promises 90 days of free tech support, and I was on my 1st day. Luckily, that tech person was very nice, she spent ~30 min and finally solved my connection problems. The problem I had was: couldn't get connections with one of my computers which still has Windows XP; the tech person told me: for Windows XP, it requires totally different NETGEAR Router set-up procedures, different from those provided in the instructions - they are for Windows 7 (forgot what she said about Vista or different operating systems of Apple). Maybe a computer person can quickly figure it out by him/herself, but, for a non-computer person, we really would like to have step-by-step instructions from the manufacturer, paper or online. For bad customer service and lack of clear instructions, one star less :-(

It is very small, so it may not have the same range and interference rejection compared to other adapters having a bigger footprint. But the range is on par with many built-in wireless adapters I've used. A stand-alone Windows 7 driver is not provided on the installation CD, nor on the Netgear web site. The included installation program appears to offer a driver-only option, but the software is installed whether you ask for it or not. The newer installation program (25 MB download) didn't offer the bogus driver-only option. Uninstalling the software also removes the Windows driver. The software appears to be just a network connection utility. It shows the channel number and signal strength. The software can be disabled by removing its shortcut from the Startup folder in the Programs menu. With the software disabled, the adapter still works with Windows. The Netgear connection utility can be started manually via the Netgear folder in the Programs menu.Update: I only got a few days of use from this adapter before it failed. I really wanted this little guy to work. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting it with no luck. Sadly I'll have to go back to using a bigger adapter that can't be left plugged in all the time.

I've only had this router for a few days so far but I'm thrilled with its performance. Prior to this I was using a Linksys WRT54G2 v1 router which worked well enough with my laptop running Windows 7, but unfortunately did not work well with my Macbook (2010 model). With the Linksys, I was getting download speeds of ~700kbps on my Windows laptop, but only ~80kbps on my Macbook. I was at my wits end and about to take my Macbook in for repairs when I accidentally connected to my neighbor's WIFI network and found I could download at the correct speeds on their network. My neighbor has this specific router, so I figured it would be a safe bet to order another one of these for myself.I received a refurbished WGR614 v10 router, a charger, an ethernet cable, and a paper stating that the product has a 30 day return guarantee as well as 30 days free technical support. There was no setup software necessary to get the router working, although I believe there is software available to download online. I literally just plugged the charger into the wall, connected the router to my modem, and it started working immediately. To change the security settings and set up a password, go to 192.168.1.1, where you can access the router's settings.Sure enough, my Macbook is now downloading at similar speeds as my Windows laptop was! I think that some Macbooks don't get along with some Linksys routers for some reason. Anyway, if you're having internet difficulties with your Macbook such as slowness, be sure to give this router a try!

The Bad:Unfortunately the unit that I purchesed "new" from Amazon was manufactured in 2011. The router did not recognize my ATT DSL line. When I called Net Gear for support they said that the unit was too old and no longer supported on the phone. The Good:I contacted Amazon to return the unit. Their support was outstanding! I printed the UPS mail label, taped it to the original box that the unit came in, as instructed. It appears that as soon as the package was scanned as being received at Amazon, the refund was issued to my credit card! I have never seen a simpler, quicker refund - Amazon gets 5 Stars for customer seervice.

I purchased this AP refurbished for less than $20 and am completely satisfied with it. I only need wireless access for guests web browsing with their laptops and one wireless printer that I seldom use. I don't need the latest and greatest 802.11n wireless, I have gigabit ethernet if more bandwidth is needed. I had another one of this same access point several years ago and never had any problems in 4-5 years of use. I lost that one to a house fire, otherwise I would probably still be using it. I don't use it as a bridge, so I can't comment on it's suitability for that.In tests I've run with Iperf on a laptop connected through this AP to my router/firewall (which is a server running pfsense), throughput seems to max out around 16-17Mbit which should be more than sufficient for simple web browsing. I don't think it would be the best for bandwidth intensive usage, but then again what wireless is? Hard to beat good old wired ethernet if bandwidth is your number one priority.I you are looking for a simple, inexpensive AP I'd highly recommend this.

Everything in a review of a device like this is really a review of the device firmware. And the firmware is still in development. Some features, like USB and file sharing, are just starting to work. If you are a Linux guru and want an advanced router, you can have some fun with this right now. If you are a less sophisticated user, it might be better to wait for a later firmware update. As I write this, the router firmware release is V1.1.00.32_1.00.32NA. You can see if there is a later firmware release at Netgear's web site. Router version v1 on that site is for the USA, v2 is for elsewhere. This firmware release did not come in the box. I had to upgrade the firmware - actually, the device offered to upgrade itself when I visited its set-up web page after I'd gotten it working with my DSL connection. The USB port had a black label glued over it, saying that it would work only with an upcoming firmware release. I peeled that off.I am 11000 wire feet from the telephone office, which limits the speed I can get using DSL. This modem synced to my ATT ADSL at a rate higher than my my Zoom Telephonics XV6. 3008 KBPS at 6 dB s/n, vs. about 2600 at 6 dB for the Zoom, which was significantly more flaky at that rate. Actually, the command-line ADSL utility says it is synced at a "max" download rate a bit higher, and a "max" upload rate almost double - it could be that ATT is rate-limiting me, and I never reached their bandwidth cap while using the Zoom. The "Guest" interface configuration for wifi wouldn't work in this firmware version. This is supposed to allow you to provide an open wifi network that doesn't have access to your internal LAN, while also providing a private wifi network for your use that has full LAN access. The USB storage device function wouldn't work because the "create a folder" button was grayed out. Linux gurus will be able to work around this bug, I discuss how later in this review. The box runs warm. You might get longer life by mounting the unit so that it has airflow on all sides.Netgear's release notes for this release are:New Features & Bug Fixes * USB support has been added. This feature can be accessed by clicking on the Basic and Advanced settings under USB Storage, with additional USB Settings available under the Advanced menu. For more details please see the ReadyShare document posted with this firmware release. You may remove the label over the USB port on the back of the unit to access the USB port. * The Reference Manual has been updated and can be accessed by clicking on the Documentation link in the router management interface. * A new Setup CD, version 1.2, has been released which adds Win 7 compatibility and fixes some default settings issues. The revised CD can be found at this link: [...] * Fixed a problem where the WiFi speed limit didn't seem to work with WN511B: Up to 130Mbps was reported as a higher speed by the client. * Fixed a problem where some invalid IP addresses were allowed by router for Remote Management. * Fixed a problem where Port scan attacks were not logged. If you run setup.cgi?todo=debug from the router's web interface, it will enable you to telnet into the router's busybox shell. If you know Linux, you can then make the router do all of the things that the web interface isn't ready to do, and more. For example, I mounted USB storage devices that, due to some bug, the web interface wouldn't handle. I suspect that some very complex routing is possible from the command line. The fact that this is a Linux router is interesting because of the potential for alternative firmware such as that provided by groups like DGTeam and DD-WRT. They enhance the features beyond those provided with the factory firmware, and continue to support the devices with new firmware after the manufacturer has lost interest in its old products. DGTeam does not provide firmware for this model, but DD-WRT supports a different model which is essentially this unit but without ADSL. With the software from both groups it should be possible to cobble together a working alternative firmware for this model. I am the original author of the "busybox" Open Source toolkit used in the router, so I might be able to do that. I bought a second, used unit for development. The router is based on Broadcomm ICs. Broadcomm is known for not releasing Open Source drivers for some of its hardware, although many of their chips have been reverse-engineered and now do have Open Source drivers. We're probably stuck with the proprietary driver for the ADSL modem chip unless someone does a whole lot of work, but I think the wifi chips and ethernet bridge now have open drivers.Once you get into the command-line environment, there's a whole lot of functionality that is not exposed to the less sophisticated user. You can also figure out what the hidden web screens are. There's one to configure IPV6 at ipv6.htm, and one to diagnose ADSL at adsl_test.htm . There is a command-line program to tweak the ADSL parameters and re

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: This router worked very well at first-fast speeds (65 mbps)-good connection strength (4 bars about 2 rooms away, 2 floors below got about 2 bars)-super easy to configure settings and set up a password (WPA2 PERSONAL-AES- this is not the password, it's the security type)-forwarding ports can be cumbersome, as you have to save and refresh after each one2 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE:-frequent disconnects from internet, would have to power cycle to get the router to work-static IP devices work fine (game consoles, for example, never disconnected)-dynamic IP devices (laptops, mobile devices) would just not connect to the internetSOLUTION: SET UP A STATIC IP!1.Go to network and sharing center2.Go to wireless adapters, right click wireless adapter and select properties.3.highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click the Properties button.4.Select "Use the following IP address" and enter in the correct IP, Subnet mask, and Default gateway that corresponds with your network setup (go to command prompt and run ipconfig if you need to see those).5.Enter Preferred, Alternate DNS server addresses(I use googles, fast/free: pref:8.8.8.8; alternate:8.8.4.4)[...]

NETGEAR wireless adapter Genie: This product didn't work no matter how many times we tried. Then when we went to Unintall, it refused to uninstall the program. Worked for several hours with our Tech family menbers but it won't allow the program to be uninstalled. it also left two windows on the screen that wouldn't go away. Turned it off and waited a bit, turned it back on and they were still there. Tried everything we could think of. Tried once again to uninstall it.Finally managed to get all the stuff to go away. Not worth the effort, since it didn't work on the laptop we purchaed it for, or for three other laptops of family members..Disappointed and exhausted.

I tried to give this only one star, but the site somehow is giving it two and I can't override it. Although this refurbished router was a bit dingy looking when I received it--it must have been VERY dirty when it was returned by the previous user--it seemed to work fine--for the first two days. (Well, after I figured out how to set it up myself. No documentation was included with the product, and Netgear's website and customer support are a geeky, confused and confusing, mess.) But then on the third morning, my wireless signal was strong, but the line out of the router to my computer wasn't working. I moved the line to the next port, and it runs okay. But for how long? I guess I will have to return it, because they didn't even reply to my message when I reported the problem. UPDATE: Nearing the end of the 30-day warranty period, Port 2 is still functioning, and I only payed $20 for the item, so I am opting to keep it rather than go through the hassle of a return and the search for a replacement because the timing is bad. Not great will have to do for now.

I am new to routers and was able to get it installed ok. My devices pick up the signal from any distance in my home. Have relatives using this brand name and they like them. Manufacturer Refurbished items seem to do pretty good for most people from what I have read. "Refurbished" can have many meanings and if you are not careful you can select a "refurbished" item that has such a low meaning that it is junk. Manufacturer Refurbished which in this case is Netgear refurbished holds a high level of meaning in my book and is a good way to acquire this model of used router.

I recently purchased a netgear wireless router-N300. It arrived on time, well packaged and without apparent damage. My total cost on the item was almost $50, which included shipping. I replaced my older linksys router thinking I was getting more and better wireless coverage. This did not happen, in fact, after over 3 hours on a help line (to India) and $79.00 to Microsoft to clean my computer I still could not get on line, period. It just would not connect even with the "expert" help. So, I re-installed my old Linksys router and an now back on line with the knowledge that the next time I consider changing my Linksis router I will definitely get another Linksis router. Lesson learned.

I've had this router for about two years. During the first few months, this router was the best investment. It was consistent, didn't drop the internet, and reliable. However, that quickly changed. This router became less reliable within six months of purchasing it. Wireless access was iffy, and could not be depended on. The signal became less over time, and it refused to allow me to connect anything wirelessly.Since I had the router over 90 days, the Netgear Customer Service is useless, that is unless I wish to pay them even more money for their useless advice. If you want my advice, avoid netgear. Their customer service is laughable, their products are not that reliable, and their products are inexpensive for a reason.

First I ordered one Media Link adapter from Amazon, which arrived to-day. After proper installation I found that the wireless signal was too weak. Then I went to Staples to get their opinion, and the sales rep. recommended this Netgear N600 Dual Band USB Adapter. I purchased this item from Staples for $40.49. After installing the CD, it worked great and it provided high speed wireless internet signal from my Cable Router, which is about 75 ft. away from the computer using this adapter. I am completely satisfied with this product. It was easy to install.

I picked up this router because it was recommended to me. It was supposed to be "easy CD-less installation." After trying for about an hour to get it working, it would not install, so I called Netgear for assistance. They logged into my computer remotely and informed me that I had a malicious bug on my computer (not true, I scan regularly) and they wanted to charge me $120 to install the router remotely. They pushed it even when I told them I was going to try another product. I still refused to pay it and returned the router to Micro Center where I picked up a Linksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router (E900). Within ten minutes, I had the router installed and a working wireless network.Way to stand behind your product, Netgear.Don't buy this piece of garbage. Buy the much superior Linksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router (E900).

I was having trouble reaching part of my house (upstairs) with a good wifi signal and the phone company had just told me my Westell 327W was too old to receive software update and needed to be replaced. while waiting for their 2nd new router to arrive (the first new one they sent did not work at all)i decided i may need to buy a new modem and router with extended range and solve two problems at the same time. thats when i ordered this one. the two band thing is a good idea and the way they explained it to me is the 5GHz is better for speed and less interference where distance is not important and the 2.4GHZ is the band for that extra distance when thats more important than quality or speed.i have been watching NetFlix on a Roku upstairs for months using my old Westell 327W with no problem (my router is downstairs). the 2.4GHz signal would reach my TV upstairs but i kept getting a Roku warning that the signal was so weak there was gonna be a problem watching movies. the 5GHz signal would not reach upstairs at all.bottom line, using a wifi signal meter app on my Kindle Fire i compared the signal strength of the old Westell 327W and this Netgear Rangemax Dual Band unit and the old Westell signal was stronger anywhere i could get a wifi signal. i returned the Netgear for a refund.Great idea having two bands so you can split your wireless stuff up and use some on both bands but forget about the RangeMax thing as it is no better than the router the phone company provides. there are areas of my house i still can't get a wifi signal into.

OK - I've spent the last 2 days exchanging emails with Netgear Technical Support. They forwarded me a telephone number to speak with a live person; and I just got off the phone with them. He's a bit more of the back story:I bought a Netgear MBNR 3000 3G/4G router to interface with my Pantech UML 290 4G modem. It''s (the modem) is suppose to be supported in the latest firmware update (V1.0.0.72_2.0.12NA), which is installed. I set up the router using the setup wizard. It auto setup all the access information for the Verizon Network, and it recognized the UML290. In fact, the router status pager (looking at router settings) specifically stes that the UML209 is recognized. However, when the router attempted to connect to the Verizon Network it was unable to make the connection. Modem (UML290) works fine on my laptop.I've tried a number of different approaches to get it to work, but to no avail. So as I mentioned, I just got off the phone with Netgear Technical Support. There answer to me (after 30 minutes of conversation & several supervisors later) was:We are sorry, but your modem, the UML 290, is NOT compatible with our product (MBNR3000). I'm confused because the Netgear knowledge base has the firmware update at the following URL:<...> . Oh well! That's it - end of story. So - if you have the UML290, don't buy the MBNR3000 - it won't work. To bad, I really liked the product.

Did about ten fixes that I found online. No help. Tried a different computer, no difference. Was online with tech support for total of 5 hours 3 different times---NO HELP! A friend of mine is a IT guy and referred me to this product. He stated I probably go a bad router. Then when I told him I had Comcast cable internet, he changed his tune and said that there was some issues with these models and comcast. He suggested a belkin N600. Just installed the Belkin. Awesome. Even though my phone doesn't have full bars on wifi in the furthest room from the router, It is still faster than my old router. Haven't tried games or streaming netflix yet.

I purchased a NETGEAR DGND3300 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router with Built-in DSL Modem for use on an AT&T-based DSL connection. I could not set it up and spent a few hours with customer support in India. The wireless router was very weak, so I bought a very expensive extender. Two of my TV's and macbook air use the wireless.Last night it stopped working. I spent 8 hours (2 pm -10 pm) trying to fix it. I first talked with three levels at Apple Computer who said it was Netgear. I called Netgear but the Indian support said they would call back, and never did. I next called ATT DSL who got it going for a few hours. It failed again, and I used the telephone number for Netgear support I used several years ago to set it up. It was a different telephone number. Guy in India takes over my computer, changes the channel setting from 36 to 11, and reduces to 145 ugh......when the wireless started working the customer support guy SAYS....'IF YOU WANT THIS FIX TO BE PERMANENT, YOU HAVE TO PAY ME!!!!!". I flipped out.....8 hours messing around with their modem/router and then I get held up. Scum company....Netgear...

I should have known from prior experience that you probably don't need to install the software with the installation disk, driver will automatically install when you plug it in, then use network pass or push-button automatic connect. The software did not seem to work correctly, it indicated that there was no internet connection (only home network), thus could not update. The software started up every time the computer booted up, showing up on the screen; could not disable that. Thus I think the software is useless, so I uninstalled it. Did not seem to have any useful functions; what do you need the adapter to do anyway?the adapter works well with my g-network, haven't wandered around the house yet to see how good the range is.

I got this refurbished router from Amazon on-line. The box came without installation CD. However, there is an attachment sheet saying "you may download the installation instruction and software from netgear.com". Then I went to netgear.com to download the software. When I found the software and tried to download, the webpage asked for serial number. I could not find the serial number for this router anywhere. Then I called the 888 support line. A support personnel told me that the refurbished router is not supposed to have a serial number, and to get software download support from him the support charge will be applied. I asked him whether or not it makes sense to buy refurbished and then have to pay for support fee. He said this is the way how it works.Return this unit.

I've been working with this AP for 6 months now and have had a number of issues. For one, the firmware that comes with it, which is the most up to date (2.0.16) does not support apple products. Anything from the Mac Books to the Iphones does not connect. So if you want to support all devices you have to downgrade to 2.0.12. Which would be fine if it wasn't for the fact that 2.0.16 solves a number of issues that make it impossible for people to get out onto the net after ~3 hours of usage. I've tried contacting Netgear about their plans to fix this with no success yet. If you're looking for a cheap wireless solution for your small business I would not recommend this AP.Edit: Just got word back from Netgear that they do not have plans to implement new firmware to solve the freezing issues and support apple products.

After working with NetGear Tech Support, Wireless Router worked. But, it has only been two days. Amazon sold this itemthat the Manufacter won't warranty or provide Tech Support unless I showed them that I had purchased it new. Router had been build more than 18 months ago. This by itself is not a problem, but there was no mark down in price or mention of this fact when the item was bought from Amazon.com. Will look other places first when buying in the future!

With this I can segment the network with vlans (802.11q tagged or port vlan) on the switchports, and decide which vlan I want my wireless to run on. It supports multiple IP interfaces, one for each vlan you create. Great for guest networks! It has many other features that I didn't even tap into. Glad I bought it, I'm going to buy another!

I have a desktop that is not wireless and a laptop that is. With this adapter and a wireless gateway, I now have two computers that are wireless. It does what it is supposed to! The only drawback is the cradle that is supposed to hold the actual adapter. The plastic is flimsy and too short causing the adapter to tip it over or fall out of it; in addition, the velcro tape that is supposed to hold the cradle in place with the adapter in it is too small and cannot do the job. The adapter is too top heavy and pulls the plastic cradle down no matter where it is located (I even added extra Scotch tape). The cord of the adapter, which is now plugged into the front USB port of my desktop CPR, now dangles rakishly over the top and down the side of it. Next time, I'll get one without a cord. But it works great!!

Needed a solution that would work with my Acer Aspire One netbook and my cable modem router. Netbook OS is Windows XP SP3. My in home wireless network runs WPA2 encryption protection, the Athereos 5007EG wireless card in the netbook would not connect. Tried multiple attempts to make adjustments to settings and get updated drivers. Nothing worked. Thought I would try this route. Glad I did. Adapter comes with a mini CD with software, had to copy that to a memory stick to trasfer to netbook (no cd drive in netbook). Loaded without difficulty and set up like a breeze. Up and running in less than 10 minutes. Very pleased with this device for in home use. Have not tried it yet in public places but expect it will work without problems. Glad to have it.

This router was very simple to setup. No CD or anything was needed. That was pretty much the only positive thing I can say about it after using it for a couple of months. I run my laptop, cell phone, and PS3 off of this thing. The PS3 is actually hard-wired through the router. Everything else is wireless. The wireless speed seems slower than my previous linksys G on my cell phone of all things. It ran much faster on my old Linksys that died on me. But the main issue is the way the router randomly loses connection. Good job Netgear for including a very convenient button on the back to turn off and turn back on the wireless transmitter. You will be doing that frequently to get the signal to re-activate on your devices. The router just drops out for no reason at random times throughout the day. Overall, it gets the job done...but If you're like me and leave home with large files uploading or downloading expecting them to be done by the time you're home, you'd better look elsewhere, for the router will have undoubtedly lost connection while you are out and about and your file will be frozen in limbo waiting for that reset. I will be going back to Linksys routers very soon.

Here I am going through my normal routine in installing wireless adapters: First find the .inf files, 32-bit or 64? Is ndiswrapper installed, yet? Huh? How does this little adapter already have its LED on? I haven't installed anything yet ... Let's check the wireless connectivity. Wireless networks available!?!?!? No way this is plug-and-play! It really is! Sure enough. No configuration or extra drivers or programs need to be installed to start using this adapter in Ubuntu 12.04. Seriously, nothing is that easy. Hardly ever can anything be plugged into my Linux box and it starts working immediately. Now, I know this has more to do with the advancements in the kernel and not with the adapter, but just so EVERYONE knows, this thing works out of the box. So now my old HP laptop can be used anywhere in my house. Redonkulous!

I purchased the Netgear RangeMax N150 as a replacement for my old Netgear router. My old router had become balky after years of dependable use, and would not allow my wireless devices to connect to the internet, even though my devices all recognized a strong signal from the router. I kept having to restart my old router a minimum of once a week, in order to get a temporary work-around to the problem. The N150 has a relatively larger footprint (approximately 9 inches by 5.5 inches) than my old router (approximately 7 by 4.5 inches), but the blue LEDs in the middle of the N150 are a nice addition; the pattern of the blinking LEDs provides various pieces of information, such as if the router's drivers/firmware have been corrupted and needs to be replaced. The N150 also has an internal antenna, so you have a sleeker looking piece of hardware if you install it out in the open.Set up and installation was cumbersome when I tried to use the included installation CD. The install process would not finish when I used the CD, because the self diagnostic kept saying that it couldn't detect an ethernet connection, or an internet connection. Of course, I was connected to the internet at the time, since part of the step-by-step CD install instructions included connecting the ethernet cables between the router, PC, and internet connection point. Anyway, after slogging through the CD install process about a half dozen times, I gave up using that method. Instead, I went to the Netgear website (even though their CD install process said they couldn't detect an internet connection) and used their web-based set up and installation feature. BINGO! I had my new router up and running within five minutes! No fuss, no muss. I've been running the N150 router without problems ever since (over a month since installation) without any need to restart the router. Aside from the lousy, worthless set up and installation CD, I'm very happy with the way the N150 router has operated so far.

Doesn't have the greatest range, but never claimed it had the best range. We have a smart blu-ray player, ps3, wii, xbox, ipad, ipods, laptops and smartphones that we use around the house simultaneously with no problem whatsoever with no lost signal yet, and have had this router 2-3 months now. It allows newer laptops to connect very quickly, unlike our old router. I'm sure this router is not powerful enough to run an office network or large area, but for a home network it does the job pretty good.

I had an old DSL broadband G network system that started performing poorly after 6 years so I felt the gateway was going bad and wanted to switch to cable broadband and a N network. First I tried to be thrifty and bought a dual band Netgear Router for $80 and had nothing but trouble with slow irratic connections and occasional dropped connections. So being advised that by people I thought should know, they told me Netgear was junk and to go with Linksys. I then bought the best Linksys home router the E4200. There was a marginal improvement at best and after 3 hours with tech support, I probably made it worse by flashing it and changing some settings. I was ready to hard wire my house to make the network function. I had bought alot of stuff that didn't work well including 1 Netgear WNDHE111 unit. After it sat there for a couple of months thinking I had wasted more money on junk because I had only bought 1 and you really need atleast 2 to work easily, I started playing around with connecting it to the Linksys E4200 router and OH MY GOD, I got it connected at 5 ghz and it was just smoking for my XBOX 360 and my downstairs computer which was a spot I had aweful wireless connections previously. I bought 2 more and this time ran one off the gigabit port from the Linksys E4200 and now it is just a simple touch of the connect button and it is all set up. I have since bought 2 more and I have them running to my sons bedrooms upstairs and once again the siginal is perfect and I get over 20 mbps to any location in my house using the Netgear WNDHE111 access points. The speed to my basement computer is always 20 to 22 mbps which would only be less than 1 mbps slower than the connection coming into the house. Just keep in mind that if you try to connect these to something other than another WNDHE111 unit, it is only possible if you have a 5 ghz router. It is not dual band and will not connect to anything that is 2.4 ghz. I have had it running for over a month and no slow downs and absolutely no dropped connections. Since I am running this to 3 flors in my house without any irratic speed or drops, I don't see how anything could be better than this short of hard wiring your house. Another point to consider is research the advantages of 5.0 ghz to the 2.4 and you will find out that microwaves, house wireless phones, baby monitors and all kinds of other stuff interfere with the 2.4 band width which has only 3 channels, but the 5.0 ghz has 23 channels and not nearly the interference you will have with the 2.4 ghz. The Netgear WNDHE111 couldn't have worked out any better for me.

I've been using this router for three weeks - so far no problem observed. Signal strength is expectedly strong - good enough for my two-story plus basement house. Before configuring this router, I first updated the firmware to the latest version -- obtained from Netgear web site. Next, I manually configured the router -- didn't try the automatic configuration utility. (I had been using Netgear router before - my previous Netgear wireless router died after around six to seven years in use - about time to upgrade wireless router anyway.) My configuration requirement is not complicated. The router basically started working right the way after I fully configured it. One thing I noticed quickly was that speed of multiple concurrent downloads improved a lot.

Stay away from this one and get the FVS318N instead. This has known issues giving out duplicate IP addresses. When this happens it takes down the entire network instead of just the two systems with the same IP. I bought a second one thinking the first one was bad. When the same thing happened, the third NetGear tech I was in contact with told me there was a known issue and suggested I get the other model - which runs great.I have to say I was really disapointed with the tech support too. He tried to tell me I should give everyone a static IP address - this was being used at a very busy gym! He then told me it could take a couple weeks to get an RMA because the engineers were really busy. I have never had a problem with them like this. I do not know why they release this hardware with a problem as bad as this, but you cannot use it if it shuts down all the time and that is exactly what this unit does. It is useless.
