It didn't work. I am not a computer geek, but I have a moderate amount of experience with this. I called support. I got someone in India who could/would not listen to my question - wanted to follow the script and couldn't really understand English or her script. I sent a complaint email - never got a response. I think it's interesting that their support web page takes you to a paid service (by them) for most problems.I returned to Amazon and bought a non-Netgear product at Staples.

Has its faults of course, the main one being the limited range. Anything more than 2 walls and the connection is iffy at best. However, a pair of them make a terrific bridge to go from, let's say, one story to another without running Ethernet. It provides true .11N operation in the 5GHz band, which leaves the 2.4GHz band open for your normal .11g(N) network. As others have noted, setup is actually simple, but you have to ignore the confusing "helpful" scenario-based setup instructions. Pretty good deal at $50.

I've been using this unit for about a month without any problems. I do have a few observations:1) Setup assumes you have basic IT skills. If you have worked with wireless routers in the past, you'll be up and running in 15 minutes. If not, it may take a couple of hours to figure out as there is no step-by-step guide with this unit. You will also need to have all the DSL access information available before you run thru the set-up wizard.2) If you change the password of your DSL provider, you MUST run thru the unit's set-up wizard again so the unit registers and saves the new password. I could not find this documented anywhere and discovered this thru process of elimination after changing my password (for people that have forgotten their passwords and need to reset them this will be especially important).3) The bottom of the unit gets quite hot (it won't burn you but it's uncomforable to touch for long). I created 1.25cm thick feet under each corner of the unit to increase ventillation and prevent damage to the desk it's on. The unit is evidently designed to run hot so this is independent of the health of the unit itself.Other than the above, the unit works great as either a wired or wireless router. It's quiet, has a small footprint, excellent broadcast radius and connection speed, and a decent set of security related capabilities.

This AP is part of a large church network. What I wanted was an access point that would cover a large area. Setup was easy - let me also say I do not use setup software. I access the html interface and set the parameters I need for my small network. The AP holds signal strength and have experienced no drop of service or need to reset. I was hoping it would provide coverage to the floor below but that was wishful thinking. I do get a signal but too weak for most notebooks to access so I will be running more cable and installing another AP. This is integrated with a linksys/cisco router, a linksys AP and a Phantom IBoss firewall filter. They all work well together.

I had nothing but good things to say about this device...Until it stopped functioning correctly! After 13 months of service, my internet connection became slower and slower. Changed my router from the DGN2000 to the Speedstream 5100b to verify that it was the device at fault...sure was! Did a factory reset on it, still could only squeeze half the bandwidth if that out of it. Installed the latest firmware update, still performs poorly. Very disappointed in Netgear, I used to be a loyal customer until owning this absolute waste of cash. Will never purchase another Netgear product again!

This particular access point is Version 3 of the product line. I purchased a Ver.4 before this one and was pleased with the setup choices. The Ver.3 will do the same after a simple firmware update from Netgear. I have both of them setup as bridges making a 1/2 mile wireless link with a couple of high gain home-made cantennas. It will do point to point or point to multipoint bridging, wireless repeating, access point or work as a wireless adapter for some of your non-wireless gadgets.

I've had this router for almost a month now and am finally replacing it.After repeated complaints of being offline from my wife and kids i started paying attention to the unit. After about a week of logging i found it was never able to maintain a connection for more then 22 hrs (and typically lasted 10-15hrs). The disconnects are completely random and range from 30 seconds to an hour. It could happen while my wife was browsing the internet (wirelessly), or my nephews were playing an online game (wired connection), it didnt really seem to matter. I even checked the logs and found several disconnects when the unit was not in use. The majority of disconnects came on the wireless side of things, but it did occasionally drop the network connection to the entire router, almost like it was rebooting itself. I did check for updates, and the unit does a good job of checking for them as well.I sucked up my pride and called into Netgear for support only to find a useless excuse for a support staff on the other end. About an hour into the debate, he decided to stop trying to blame all six of my machines (which use both wireless and wired connections), and started blaming my ISP and the modem I was using. After about another 45 minutes of explaining i have a DSL and Cable connection, neither of which can maintain connection on this router (but have no issues directly connecting, or using the old router) he abruptly put me on hold. I put him on speakerphone and went on about my work day (I just sit at my desk all day anyways).. 2hrs later, i was disconnected.

So this thing worked great when it worked. Problem is data would stop transferring often. It was strange because my signal in both the windows notifier and the Netgear program would show the signal as being strong and when it came back I would sometimes even get a notification that I was connected to the internet even though it never displayed that I had been disconnected. I don't know if my specific unit was defective or if this is a widespread problem but from reading the other reviews it seems that not everyone has problems with it but I am not the only one who did. Either way I replaced it for a different brand (Belkin) and had no more dropouts. Also I have some other nitpicks which aren't much but since many of these devices are pretty much the same (if they work properly) the nitpicks become why you would choose one brand over another and are further reasons why I like my replacement better.1. The blinking indicator light is too bright. When I am in the dark the flashes are bright enough to illuminate my desk are and is distracting2. It gets too hot. I don't know what kind of long or short term performance issues this may or may not cause but it made me nervous that it will.3. It runs a separate program to display connectivity as opposed to just using the Windows program. So I have an extra program I don't need cluttering up my system.4. Both the new and old ones come with extension cables but the new one's cable has a nice looking stand to plug the adapter into while the Netgear one just hung off my desk with a recommendation in the instructions of taping it to the monitor. (Note: the new one is also much wider so if you are plugging it in directly without the extension cable it won't look better then.)

I purchased this router new to replace my old 2wire. I needed a newer wireless setup and the dgn2000 looked like the perfect modem. It was very easy to set up and worked great for a few months. I have 2 computers set up wireless and this still works, my pc is set up via ethernet cable, and my xbox360 via ethernet. I noticed the xbox started to have connection issues but my pc was fine. started doing everything I could to fix it but nothing worked. It seems that these routers have LAN issues. It is always on and does tend to heat up a bit. Netgear support is non-existing after 90 days. This is my first netgear product and my last. I have always believed in companies taking care of the consumer and after multiple calls and dealing with the automated operator I could not get a hold of anyone to talk to at netgear. This router would be great if it worked for more than a year, unfortunately this was not the case for me.

I really like this router after having it installed for a few days. I had a bad experience trying to install a belkin "n" router but this one was a breeze. I be wary of fake 'N" router that are really just puffed up "g". Make sure to be looking in the specs for some type of 'N' standard. Some routers claim to be "n" capable like 150n or 160n but when you look at the spec sheet there is no mention of a 802.11n specification. But anyway I really like this router and we are getting great connection speeds and my printer sharing between my mac and pc works fine.

I usually buy linksys or Motorola routers because I have had problems with Netgear several years ago. I have heard they are better now so I bought the WNR2000. I have had nothing but problems with the router. When I have called the customer service number the reps could barely speak English. Just reading the serial number to the rep was impossible, he could not understand simple letters and numbers. On the second call I let them know that only 1 laptop could connect. I tried with 2 pcs and an Iphone and none would connect. He walked me through all the steps of changing channels and renaming the network, disabling passwords...all of this I had already tried. He then tells me there is nothing wrong with the router that all of the others devices were the problems. He said I needed to contact HP, Gateway and Apple because the problems were all on their end. Um yeah Ok.

The first version of this product was plagued with problems but Netgear finally put together an extremely good firmware update to bring even v1.0 of this unit to par with v2.0. Do NOT be fooled by Netgear tech support - the 1.0 version can be flashed with 2.0 firmware! This is a solid performer, clean interface, and perfect since it provides both port forwarding and port triggering. For people who like to micro manage IP numbers and such, this has a significantly cleaner interface than the FWG114P allowing for easy setup of everything. Our network has this running with a 12Mb cable internet line, 3 PC's, 1 network multifunction printer, 1 mirroring multi-function web server, 1 hub, with an additional network print server and 3 PC's on the other end. I have not used any VPN features on this router so I do not know about that. However, one thing I did notice that the FVG318 is much slower than the FWG114P in connecting in wireless clients. It is not slow enough to make it unusable, but it is slow enough to be noticeable. With so many devices running simultaneously, multiple web server ports for our 32 cameras on our 2 DVR's, it's amazing that the unit has never needed to be reset or hard booted in the month that its been in operation. Solid performer!

I liked the idea of having a combination one device instead of a separate modem & router to eliminate a couple of extra wires, and I liked the idea that it might be faster and have less interference on the 2.4 ghz band. Okay on the first, but otherwise no improvement over my old wireless-G network. If you already have a wireless-G setup, then don't bother with this.I knew I was going to be installing Windows 7 from Vista, so I thought it would be smart to install this first, before I upgraded to Windows 7 to try and avoid problems. It was indeed very easy to install. However, after upgrading Windows 7, I could not connect to the internet. Several hours and a couple of aspirin later, I discovered that Netgear has a new installation CD for Windows 7 that you have to download. Once I re-installed using this new setup CD, it worked fine.Update: I've been using this router for a while now, and on the upside, I find it almost never drops the connection. My old router used to drop all the time. On the downside, I get more interference on the 2.4 ghz band than I previously did.

Manual setup was easy after downloading the manual as the disc does not work with 64 Bit (XP or Vista). However, speeds were very slow (250kbs) so talk to customer service at Netgear, upgrade firmware, send back to Amazon. Amazon's customer service is always great so start the process on the next morning by 10:30 with a new router. Same results, talk to customer service who escalated to senior level after mentioning difficulties with Toshiba cable modems. Ah-ha. Off to TW and retrieve a new modem and Voila, thru speeds at 12mbs through the modem and router compared with 7.5mbs with the old modem connected directly to the computer. This is a great value as my laptop now connects at 200 feet from the house in my shop. None of the connection and problems were difficult, but it took a little patience. Apparently this is a fairly new model and I guess Netgear is still working some issues, but once the new modem was in place everything is excellent. And once again, thanks to Amazon for their excellent service and competitive pricing.

The on-the-box claim of "broadband usage meter provides internet traffic monitor and usage alerts" should have a * after it. The monitoring will only work for DSL connections, not cable modems. The option to turn on traffic monitoring (as well as all other traffic-shaping options) is disabled if you have a cable modem. Netgear says they may fix in the future but for now it is unavailable. Disappointing to me since that was one of the features I was looking for in a new router.

Others have noted this problem in other reviews. Oh, and the interface (via a web browser) is a touch slow, but you get used to that. Overall I'm happy with the purchase and the price I paid for it. I do IT consulting for a living and found this product lacks in every category. The firewall does not allow port redirection such as comes in on port 81 but maps to port 80 on the local PC nor can it handle WOL since the arp table gets cleared after 7 minutes. Um, DLINK does this. I tried to inform them of the issue, but after 3 hours of runaround and hang ups I gave up. They lost a customer for life and everyone a product to. They completely cover my entire house, and honestly just 1 of them would do. But I've got 1 AP in the living room, 1 AP in our upstairs media room, and 1 AP in our master bedroom. We like being able to plug things into it, plus having the complete blanket of wireless coverage anywhere in the house. I was very disappointed at this product. The wireless connection gets dropped quite often, requiring a restart of the router. We have to restart this thing AT LEAST 3 times/day. I have a wireless HP printer that, when the router gets restarted, needs to be restarted as well. This becomes annoying when your children have to print their homework.I work from home and these disconnects are unacceptable. As a workaround: I had to connect my PC directly to the cable modem to ensure my connection doesn't get dropped. I like the wired connection better, but my family battles with the intermittent internet connectivity. My advise: obviously, do not get this router. Also, this product is being replaced with newer technology that you should check out: like dual-band... Also, research, research, research before you buy. That's what I'm doing!

What's great about it: Best Buy gave me my money backWhat's not so great: It doesn't workI bought the WG111V2 for my Compaq Presario V2000 laptop running XP Pro SP3 to connect to my Linksys WRT54G router. The original wireless card in the laptop had failed long ago and I had been using a Buffalo KG54, which was working great for about 2 years until it recently failed. I bought the WG111 because it had good reviews. The first WG111 wouldn't work at all until I downloaded the latest driver from the Netgear website. Then it worked great until it warmed up, then it wouldn't work at all (wouldn't even scan). I exchanged it for a new one from Best Buy. The second one would not work at all, even though it saw my router with a 98% signal strength. I use the strongest security measure I can (don't broadcast SSID, WAP2 with a strong password, and enable MAC filtering for only the MACs I input), so I turned off all the security measure, but it still wouldn't connect. I called Netgear Tech Support and spoke to Ralph, who had me try a number of things, none of which worked. He finally concluded that their Netgear WG111 was "incompatible" with my router and recommended I buy a Linksys Wireless Adapter.

When the DGND3300 tries to negotiate a connection with ATT DSL, it often times out way to quickly. I see the DSL connection light flashing, then it stops after about 20 seconds. If I leave it turned on, it eventually connects, but it may time out many times before it finally connects. Once it connects, the speed is good and all is well. But pity me if I lose power or disconnect the DGNG3300 for some reason. It may take an hour to finally connect again!I also have a 2wire modem, and it sometimes negotiates (DSL Light flashing) for a minute or more before it connects. It might take a minute or two, but the 2wire modem ALWAYS connects. So there needs to be some place in the firmware to correct this problem - But there is not. An hour with Netgear tech support got me nowhere. It should not time out so fast when negotiating a DSL connection. I thought it was a problem with the first one, so I took it back and got a replacement - but it has the same issue.Once connected, the product is great. Easy to configure. Good features. Far superior range and quality of service compared to the 2Wire DSL Modem/RouterBut unless Netgear can figure out a solution to the issue I will have to take it back and get a unit from a different manufacturer...

I purchased this unit so I could connect to the internet with my IPod Touch. I wanted to keep my wired router for security reasons, so I needed something that could plug into my router, and act as a access point. I read that you could attach a wireless router to a wired router, but the instructions were long and complicated. Since I'm not an expert in networking, and since I do not want to spend hours trying to make it work, I decided the extra cost is worth it. This unit was easy to install. The only problem I had was the instruction manual, or lack of it. I had to hunt down all the PDF files on the web. There are different manuals for different versions, so look on the bottom of the unit to see which rev you have (v1, v2, v3, etc). The installation guide was the most important, but the other manuals covered the security settings in depth.I recommend you first leave it in default mode, then try to connect to it with your device. If everything works, and your device can see the network, then you are ready to customize the AP. Go back and plug it in to your PC, and change the network name, and enable security encryption. You could read the manual, and learn about all the different encryption options, but all you really need to know is which standard your wifi device is capable of using. Then, you just set it to the most advanced method it can handle. I used the WPA/WPA2 setting, and it was easy and straight forward to set up, because there are only a few things to enter. After I was done, I hooked it back to my router, and waited a few minutes for the AP to initialize. My IPod connected easily after I entered the password. I can't stress how important it is to enable the encryption. One of my neighbor's wifi is wide open to eavesdropping, and hacking, because they did not enable this security feature.Overall, this was easy to install, and it works great. I did not test the max range, but I can connect while in the backyard, and that's far enough for my needs. I can't say much about it's reliability, or performace, since I only use it occasionally with my IPod. I've owned Netgear products in the past, and they have always been a quality brand.

I then tested with one of my laptops that has an Intel 4965agn mini-PCIe adapter, which supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz (latest Intel Proset drivers).Windows 7 is showing 300mbps when I connected to the WNHDE111, as expected, so I tested with Speedtest ([...]) and Speakeasy ([...]).I normally get about 27-39Mbps download speeds on these tests using hard-cable, and I've been able to get similar speeds with the same adapter with my 2.4Ghz router by tweaking the channels and channel width, so I was disappointed that, with the WNHDE111, I was seeing speeds fluctuate all over the place, from ~5Mbps to ~25Mbps. Averages were also all over the place.I upgraded the router firmware to the latest on Netgear's website, but didn't see any noticeable difference.I have to say that I expected better performance from a 5Ghz 11n router, especially vis-a-vis my 2.4Ghz 11n router, but...

2011 EDIT: This unit's SSL certificate has expired and is no longer accessible via the web interface! I have read up on it, and apparently the way to correct it is to make sure the unit does NOT find the correct time. Leave it in 2006. Netgear of course offers ZERO support for this problem. If you can't access your unit, you will have to reset it to the default settings by holding the reset button for 5 seconds. Then you can access the interface and make sure it doesn't have access to DNS or default gateway. Leave them blank. Of course your time will be off, but at least you'll be able to access the AP. There is a version of DD-WRT, but unfortunately they think only businesses uses this Access Point so they charge for it. I've lowered my rating of this unit because Netgear clearly doesn't expect their equipment to last 5 years even though they are still selling these as new, and because they didn't offer any firmware update to correct the problem. Not quite sure why the other reviewers had so many issues. I have no formal training in wireless networks and had no real problems with the access points themselves. Maybe because I didn't use WPA. I used two of these AP's to bridge two apartment buildings and several apartments connecting a total of somewhere around 16 PC's. The only issue I had was one of the power supplies was bad on arrival. These units have removable antennas so you can add larger antennas or even amplifiers.I used one of these AP's with the Netgear ANT24D18 which even though I got a good deal was a slightly expensive option. The other I used with a much cheaper (live and learn) rooftop antenna that looks more like a microwave antenna. I attached the Netgear antenna to the access point on a balcony of the apartment building across the street. Total distance between the antennas was probably only 300 feet.Once I aligned the signal of the two antennas, the signal quality was outstanding. Both AP's connected at turbo '108 mbps' speed. I was able to easily watch a streaming video from one computer in one building to a computer in the other. We also played LAN video games between buildings with no issues.Because of the remote outdoor locations of one of the AP's (in a waterproof box but still exposed to extreme temperatures and humidity) and a shortage of expensive antenna wire, I ran the power over two of the unused ethernet wires and still had zero issues and rarely lost packets. The only issue I had was during severe windstorms that would misalign the antennas which would lower signal quality and strength. Oh, also the connection between the two AP's was WEP encrypted 152 bit. I also had another AP (DLink) running at the same time and had no interference issues. The Dlink however has it's own set of issues, big surprise though. Quality-wise Netgear has always been above DLink and Linksys for me. A Linksys AP I use at work can barely transmit through one wall without dropping signal like crazy. The only other bad thing I can say is that in a very, very quiet room, sometimes you can hear a tiny buzz from the AP.

Bought this through Amazon, came in less than a week, plugged it in using Windows Professional Xp, internet connection has been very good. Being used in a computer about 60ft from the Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Router. Would recommend this product...and the best part, including shipping & handling the price was half as much as what the big electronic stores were asking. That's the part I like the best.

The product plugged right in and down loaded the appropriate drivers. I have no complaint. It was very inexpensive as a refurbished product and it works fine. What more can I say.

NETGEAR RangeMax Premium Wireless-N Gigabit Router (WNR3500) This replaced my ISP supplied 2WIRE Modem/Router and works much better for our Home LAN. I am pleased with the purchase.

What a pain the a**. After about 2 weeks of working OK, this thing starts randomly dumping connected devices and (sometimes) re-connecting them. Not just the wirelessly attached devices either-- even the plugged-in devices. Computers, wireless printers, USB network hubs-- it's not picky. Log into the router, and it can't even tell you when something is attached. Some devices continue to work, while it can't even tell you that they are attached. Too bad I tossed my old 'G' router that was working fine. Since I'm outside of the 30-day store return policy, I have to decide if I want to eat the $80 and just go buy a new router or fight the maze of Netgear warranty return policy. I'm sure the erratic behaviour of this P.O.S. will result in them claiming its fine and sending it back to me. By the way, the "Push 'N' Connect" feature never did work, and yes the connecting device is compatible. Bummer, I was used to good products from Netgear....I guess I'll move on now.

Thanks to Dual Band Wireless-N technology, the DGND3300 delivers exceptional wireless performance by avoiding interference from household devices such as baby monitors, microwave ovens, and cordless phones. The RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N provides up to 23 free channels (versus just three with regular Wireless-N), and the DGND3300 also has eight internal antennas for optimal wireless connectivity.

The WNR3500 looks good and has decent wireless range. That is all that I can say good about it. I have used Netgear switches for years with excellent results so I was expecting that the WNR3500 would also be a high quality product. I installed the unit and configured it without much trouble. It was a pretty basic installation with one computer on a wired gigabit connection, a second computer on a 100Mb wired connection, an 8-port gigabit switch with a media extender and a TV connected to it, and two wireless connections. The wireless connections were for a Wii game console and an Ipod Touch. The wireless connections would drop every 3 to 4 minutes and the wired connections would drop several times per day. At times the DNS would stop working and I would have to reboot the router and my cable modem to correct the problem. I contacted Netgear support and the first solution was to reset the unit to factory defaults and set it up again with no wireless security. The second solution was to perform a different kind of reset to factory defaults and go through setup again. By this time I had read many entries in the user forum where others had been have these same problems for almost a year with no solution. At this point I decided to return the WNR3500 for a refund. I replaced it with a Linksys WRT610N which has performed flawlessly so far. Browsing the internet through the WRT610n is noticeably faster than with the Netgear router. At this time I would not recommend the Netgear WNR3500 unless you want to be a beta tester for the unit.

A large sticker on the instruction manual advises: "Important!! Upgrade the firmware on your DSL Modem Router before installation." Following this advice, I went to the Netgear website, downloaded the upgrade, and followed the instructions to upload the firmware upgrade to the DSL Modem Router. The dialog box said that it could take a while. After 10-20 minutes of the spinning hourglass, I called Netgear Technical support (case #10288105), who advised that the firmware upgrade only works with Windows. I was advised to either use a Windows machine to do the upgrade (I don't have one), or return the DGN2000 to Amazon for a refund. The box says it is Mac compatible, but apparently not. I asked to speak with a Netgear supervisor, but was told she was busy, and furthermore, could not call back later. The Netgear website offers no solutions, nor does it provide a way to send an email request.I was able to use a friend's Windows PC to do the firmware upgrade. Why Netgear can't provide software to upgrade a Mac-compatible router from a Mac is puzzling.

I set up a dual band Wireless N (2.4 and 5 GHz). Higher frequency 5GHz DOES have better range if it's unobstructed but the dirty secret is that the LOWER frequencies (2.4GHz, etc for Wireless G, etc) have better PENETRATION through walls etc. My experience with "N" is mixed- I do like my dual network to split traffic but have not been overwhelmed by bloated range claims of wireless N. This product is better value than Linksys options (My router is Linksys and the products work well together).

Maybe its me, I had a difficult time getting this to work, once working it was great. I have one acting as an AP and the other connected to direct tv receiver and to media center computer, the direct tv receiver works flawlessly but the computer connection is lost every time it is booted and the 2 WNHDEB111 need to be rebooted for the computer to connect to the internet but no problems with the direct tv. So my conclusion is just to connect the tv and not the media center through the AP.

Ok read all the reviews on Amazon. I have a Asus Eee Pc 1000h. I had to change the wireless card inside the laptop to pick up the 5ghz N signal. I knew this, and its very easy to do and Amazon has great deals on these cards. This Netgear is my second wireless access point on my home system, My other wireless access point is a Linksys WAP G band. The 5ghz Netgear does connect at 300mps and my wireless connection is fantastic, but the range isn't as good as my G access point and if I try to transfer large files it sometimes looses connection. If I go more than 25 feet away from the Netgear access point, the signal drops drastically. It may be because the 3rd antenna on my Asus wireless card is not fully compatible with the 5ghz range, so I ordered another type of antenna and will give that a shot! meanwhile to all readers, remember there is no adjustment to the 2.4ghz N band. You are on the 5ghz A or N band only. No G band, which is ok since I already have the Linksys G wireless. I would like to point out that I did like the second port on the back of the unit, my Linksys works fine connected to that port, which saves a used port on my wired router. Still testing....so far disappointed in the distance and file dropping....UPDATE April 2009Sold the Netgear on ebay. I purchased a Linksys refurbished 160N wireless N router and it blows the netgear away. Although I am connected at 144mbps in N wireless mode on the Linksys, it transfers large files faster without drops with much better distance.Goodbye Netgear, BTW, the Linksys is at 2.4ghz. If I could change my rating, I'd give the netgear access point a single star.

I eventually got the unit set up and working. But when operational, it stops transmitting every 20 or 30 minutes, for about 5 minutes, then resumes transmitting. Connecting to internet (via cable modem) has not been an issue. For the little use I have given it over the three months I have had it, this is almost a case infant mortality.
