Hi,
I have owned this camera for a little over a year and it has performed well. Last week when I needed it the most for my trip, it decided to have problems.

The camera would take only one picture, will not zoom and none of the other buttons functioned. I had to turn off the camera after taking one picture and turn it back on. It also took 2 tries to turn it off.

I contacted kodak support. I was disappointed with the responses I got, They wanted 90$ (including shipping) to take a look at the camera, because it was out of warranty. This is my second kodak camera that decided to die in two years.

Once it was clear that Kodak was not going to help me, I decided to take it upon myself to see what can be done. I opened the cover by unscrewing the little screws all around the camera. When I opened it, the zoom button fell right off. I have a feeling it was disloged somehow.

I put it back, put the battery in and decided to try it and everything started working again. Put the cover back on, and screwed everything back together and everything works now.

I am glad I dont have to buy a camera, but not glad about the kodak quality. Not sure how buttons can get dislogded.

Personally I would never buy another Kodak camera. With the experience I had with my digital camera, it soured me forever. Got one as a gift, used it for 6 months and it would not hold a charge. Contacted them, was told to try differant soulutions buying different batteries, even another charger to no good. Finally sent it in before warranty was up. Instead of repairing it properly they more or less put a bandaid on it and called it a day. Worked as long as the battery they replaced and that was it. More solutions offered, nothing constructive. Told me to send it in for another 'repair' and because it now had passed the warranty stage it would cost me more than the original cost of the camera. Hmmmm...good business practice? If they would have fixed it properly by testing it to see what really was wrong instead of just popping a new battery in and considered it fixed....well, heaven help the person who happens to get a malfuntioning camera from Kodak.

Works perfectly as advertised on my Z712IS. The fitting is ever so slightly on the tight side, but that just means it won't fall out easily.

I've never owned a digital camera and I'm not a photo-taking kind of person, but I didn't have a camera at all. So I did my research (I thought) and took the plunge. This camera is really everything I was looking for (and much more), except for one thing. The "joy stick" button that you use to go through the menus, review the pictures, and probably a lot more that I don't know about, is less than half the size of my little fingernail, and I don't have big hands. I had to use my fingernail to move it and, most of the time, it didn't move in the direction I wanted it to (didn't get to the function I wanted) because my fingernail was just a little too much toward another direction. I hope that makes sense. I REALLY wouldn't recommend this camera for anyone who has large, or even medium-size, fingers.

In addition, while I was setting up my preferences, I noticed that the battery needed to be charged again. I had fully charged it when I got it. I don't know how long I was playing with it before I noticed this, and I don't know if this is usual, but I thought I'd mention it.

One of the preferences I set up was for the camera to turn itself off after not being used for 3 minutes. After I was finished playing with it, I pressed the button to manually turn it off, and it wouldn't turn off. I didn't think about taking the battery out (novice, remember?), so I just left it alone. It turned itself off after about 4 hours! From then on, it turned on and off just as it was supposed to.

Anyway, except for those things, the camera was great! The 3" display is terrific. There's virtually no delay between pressing the button and the picture being taken. The pictures are good, but I'm really no judge. Upon reading the instruction manual, I found that the camera had many, many more features than I ever anticipated needing, but it's nice to know that they're there.

I guess it's back to doing more research.

I used this camera for about a year before it stopped working. I was happy with the picture quality and features, although it never did hold a charge. If I didn't use it for awhile when I did go to use it the battery was always completely dead. But, now it has stopped working completely. When I press the on button the lens opens and then closes again immediately. After searching around online for a solution it seems like this is actually a very common problem and of course it is just outside of the warranty. Very disappointing.

This is the worst camera I have ever owned. I have sent it back twice trying to get multiple problems fixed, and they just keep sending me back the same camera. It is a short amount of time before I have another problem. I can usually take 5 pictures before the fully charged battery dies and the camera shuts off. After I take a picture, it can take 30 seconds before can take another picture because the screen says "processing". I can't say enough negative things about this camera. WORST CAMERA EVER!!!!

Having owned digital cameras for nearly 10 years now, I'm no stranger to them. I currently own a somewhat old Sony 5mp "prosumer" camera (which still takes very nice photos) and an 8mp Canon DSLR. Since the latter weighs nearly 4 lb. with my favorite lens on it and the former is not exactly compact either, I went shopping for a reasonably good quality and not too expensive pocket camera. After reading some reviews I was interested in a Fujifilm J10, which while inexpensive seemed pretty decent and got good marks for image quality. I treked down to a local Best Buy to check it out. While the J10 does look like a very nice camera for the money, I was not quite enthused about what I perceived as a sluggish response, and the camera buttons seemed a bit clunky. I decided while I was there to look around at other brands and models while I was there. That was when the Kodak M1033 caught my eye. I thought it was a very attractive looking camera. Part of this was due to the fact that it had little in it's finish that would attract finger prints ... something that drives me crazy. Upon picking up the camera I then noticed it was a Kodak and was a little surprized. To be honest, I've not perceived Kodak cameras as being of particular quality or performance. Upon playing with the controls I was immediately impressed with the build quality and the feel of the buttons. Discovering the joystick control ... I was off to the races. Most of the camera operation was fairly intuitive and I found the joystick a much more convinient selection method than the multi-way controls used in most pocket cameras. I was also impressed by the quick responses of the camera ... start-up time, shutter lag, magnification and image scrolling on playback were all quite good, particularly by pocket camera standards. I decided to wait and research the camera some more and then once I found out about the HD video modes with MPEG-4 compression, I decided to give it a try. After several days of using the camera, I'll say that overall I'm fairly impressed with it. The image quality doesn't compare with my DSLR but even though shots in low light are frequently a bit noisy and blurred (again, by DSLR standards), they look pretty good compared to other pocket cameras I've seen reviewed. With 10mp you can afford some blurriness which you'll never see unless you enlarge quite a bit. While full manual modes are not present on this camera, it does give some manual control and has several features that surprized me on this type of camera (spot metering and histogram to name two). On one hand the high ISO settings can make for pretty blotchy and/or noisy images, but again, I've seen far worse in camera reviews of shirt pocket cameras and I must say I'm surprized that these images seem usable even at such high settings. I'm just a bit embarrassed to admit that I've grown accustomed to shooting most of my shots in fully-automatic "dummy" mode. I can't complain about the results and should I need a little more control, to some extent I have it. All in all I'd have to give this little bugger a big thumbs up.

I'm always a little cautious ordering no-name electronic items, but this Chinese-made charger seems pretty well made, and does exactly what it's supposed to.

It's clearly designed primarily to charge the Fuji NP50 battery, but works fine for the Kodak batteries listed. The first battery I tried it with (a Kodak KLIC 7004) slid in fairly easily but had a tendency to pop out and lose connection to the charging pins if knocked. Not a huge problem but make sure you've pushed the battery in fully, otherwise it won't charge at all. The unit displays a red, amber or green light depending on the charging stage, although the green light stays lit whenever the charger has power, suggesting that it's a fairly simple system.

I prefer this style of charger to those that have the plug built in - this one uses a common two-pin socket into which pretty much any standard mains lead will fit (a UK lead is included, although it's fairly short). Also included is a cable for powering the charger in a car, which plugs into its own socket on the other side of the device.

Overall, it's a good charger and certainly recommended for the price. It gets five stars from me purely because I can't think of a good enough reason to knock any off - slightly cheap construction is probably the only negative, but what else would you expect for this price?

I WILL NEVER BUY A KODAK CAMERA AGAIN AFTER THS EXPERIENCE. THE BATTERY LIFE ON THIS CAMERA IS A MERE 3-5 DAYS. A FEW PICTURES, TURNED OFF, IN A DRAWER. THE NEXT TIME YOU WANT TO TAKE A PICTURE THE CAMERA IS DEAD AND NEEDS A FEW HOURS TO RECHARGE. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY SAME ISSUE. I BOUGHT IT NEW. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH KODAKS 'HELP' CENTER WHERE I HAD A COMPLICATED CONVERSATION WITH SOMEONE OVERSEAS. THEY WERE VERY POLITE BUT COMPLETELY USELESS. I HAVE HAD THE CAMERA IN FOR REPAIR NO LESS THAN THREE TIMES. OF COURSE, IT IS RETURNED WITH ALL FUNCTIONS NORMAL. AND TRULY, THE CAMERA WORKS BEAUTIFULLY BUT IT WILL NOT STAY CHARGED MAKING IT USELESS TO ME. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A FLAW IN DESIGN AND KODAK SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE AND HONOR THAT. THEIR WEBSITE CLAIMS THAT NORMAL BATTERY LIFE SHOULD ALLOW FOR 120-550 PICTURES. I'VE NEVER GOTTEN PAST 10. INCIDENTALLY, I BOUGHT THIS CAMERA TO REPLACE MY EASYSHARE I HAVE HAD FOR PROBABLY 8 YEARS. IT STILL WORKS (BUT I WANTED MORE MEGAPIXELS) AND I ONLY CHARGE THE BATTERIES EVERY FEW MONTHS!!! I PURPOSELY BOUGHT ANOTHER EASYSHARE. BIG MISTAKE. I'VE GIVEN UP. DISGUSTED. BUYER BEWARE!

Out of several cameras I've owned or used, this has definitely been my favorite. My friends often ask for copies of pictures I take, even if they've taken their own, because of the high quality of the pictures.

First, I should say, the zoom button broke--I was able to fix it with a little gentle fiddling of the lens--and sometimes the pictures don't record, though I think this was my own fault for getting foam (don't ask) and rain on the camera

Pros:
+ value: a great price for what it offers
+ size/style: I'd wanted one of the fancy colors, but even the black looks really nice and sleek and doesn't have the cheap feel that some other cameras have; the size is wonderful too, since it fits nicely even into smaller pockets and hands
+ picture quality: awesome picture quality, with different settings to fiddle around with; my only complaint is that night pictures aren't always the greatest
+ video quality: the videos have great sound and picture quality
+ speed: the picture is taken almost as soon as you press the shutter button. Basically no delay.
+ settings: has quite a few settings for taking pictures in different lighting conditions, etc to try out, without being overwhelming. Try out different settings, even if the setting isn't described as ideal for a certain lighting condition

Cons:
- software: the Kodak software is a mess. If you are able, try to get by without it or use another program.
- video editing: the videos are in .mov files, which is not ideal for me as a PC user; also, the Kodak software is not very good for editing videos and sometimes freezes up with larger files.
- screen: some people like the bigger screen, but it was more of an annoyance to me, since it probably uses a bit more battery power than a smaller screen would and because of its size, it seems more prone to scratches; the pictures look /much/ better on the computer than on the LCD screen.

Overall, in spite of the software flaws (which don't really have to do with the camera itself), I'd highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a great camera at a great price.

Before buying this camera, I delved on various digital cameras and after a lot of research, I had short-listed this camera and Canon Power shot S3. Finally I reached the conclusion that the Kodak Z812 IS had the best bash for the buck and selected this one based on following:
1) this was costing approx $250 with rechargeable battery and charger (NON OEM) as compare to Canon S3 was costing approx $290 with Sony Batteries and charger.
2) It has 7.1 mega-pixels as compare to Canon S3 which has 6.2 mega-pixels.
3) It has 2.5 inch LCD as compare to 2 inch in Canon S3.
So in short I bought the Z812 IS because I wanted advanced features without the technical challenges and cost of a DSLR.
I am very much satisfied with this camera. This is one of the greatest ultra zoom cameras presently available at its price, the best choice if you judge quality to cost ratio. It takes pictures that are very remarkable with great color reproduction and with fine details. Even videos are so great that it can beat some of the low end video cameras except the sound quality. Optical zoom is tremendous. There are around 20 scene modes, selectable with the menu steering buttons. Low light results are also very good. I was able to use "night landscape" mode efficiently to take otherwise difficult night cityscape photos. The camera chose a 10 second (!) exposure time at ISO 64, and the photos came out superbly.
The image quality was very good. The main difference between this and the classier DSLR are the sensor sizes and interchangeable lenses. The Z812 has a 1/2.5" sensor; DSLR's start at about 15 times that area and up. This makes a huge distinction in low-light and vibrant range of the pictures. But of course DSLR's are a lot bulkier and expensive. The Z812 has a lot of sophisticated features especially like the live histogram. Performance was overall quick, except when the buffer filled (about 5 burst pictures), then it takes almost 10 seconds to write it all into the memory card.
The lens is reasonably fast, meaning the aperture doesn't close down too much when fully zoomed (its widest setting is f/2.8 to f/4.8 at 12x zoom), so there's more available light even at highest zoom, so the shutter can be fast enough to freeze sports action, or ISO can remain low for low noise.
During my research I found many misleading reviews on battery issue. This camera works well with Lithium or Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries. It is good idea to have Li-Ion rechargeable with charger. To buy original or compatible batteries / chargers is up to you. According to me it is not an issue at all. I bought 2 Non OEM batteries and charger from Amazon at 19 $ and they are working great.
Another misleading was about the loose lens cap. If it was not kept loose, it would have easily damage the zoom mechanism if you forget to remove the cap before turning ON the camera.

In a nut shell...
No matter who you are, apart from professional photographer, the camera is apposite for you. You may use it as just point and shoot camera. Or you may play with more technical stuff like f-stop or aperture or shutter speed or exposure compensation or so on. Obviously it is not DSLR and how much you can expect in a $210 deal, but... If you want some thing like DSLR at a price of point n shoot, this is the camera. So overall
A great camera @ great Price

Awesome camera! First a little background. I have owned several Kodak cameras over the years, although my first digital was a Sony, so I am a little biased to Kodak. I loved my Z730 that was a few years old, but my son broke it on me so I decided it was time for an upgrade on features anyway. Did I say how much I LOVED that z730?!? So I wanted something that was similiar in style and function.

I have 3 kids and another due shortly, so I take tons of indoor snapshots. I was seeking fast speed, short lag, a good zoom, easy to handle and program, excellent photos and good video (exactly the z730 features).

I bought 2 cameras that I felt fit my criteria and budget, the Canon SX100 and the Kodak Z812. Never owned a Canon before, but they seem to get great ratings everywhere I searched. Of course, I also checked out the Nikon D40 (super fast, but no video), the Sony DSC-H10 (over my budget and got so-so reviews on indoor shots, but is fast) and several others. But the first 2 I purchased and tried at home under my conditions. Tried these side by side with my husband and then we swaped cameras and gave our thoughts. We both liked the Kodak better.

The Canon SX100 is a perfect size, comfy to hold, takes various battery options, takes really nice photos, good response time without the flash...however, once the flash is used it takes FOREVER to recycle at about 4-8 secs (with 3 kids that won't work for me), the onboard program is not easy to use (hated it, Kodak is was easier), orientation does not keep pics face up if I snap at side angle (Kodak does), plus if you like a date stamp on the pics like I do, the Canon will only allow it on the "postcard" setting (Kodak has it on all settings). Overall nice megazoon camera, but too slow for indoor shots with flash and not a good menu set-up. I would rate this one about 3 1/2 stars.

The Kodak Z812 is a bit bigger, but only like a 1/2 oz heavier than the Canon. I like the super fast speed of the Kodak Z812 shot to shot time and lag time...even with the flash used I could immediately snap the next shot without a wait. It has a crisp 230k pixel LCD and EVF. The Canon is 172k pixels (still nice) and only has an LCD which makes not much a difference to me b/c I rarely use a VF anyway. Both cameras have a 2.5in LCD. I like to set my camera at auto mode mostly with some tweaking from time to time. This camera happens to capture great videos and the zoom can be used while in use. Takes awesome crisp, clear, true to color pictures even when used in full zoom and macro mode. The program menu is so simple to use and navigate. I like the auto pop-up flash (the Canon has a maual flash) not that this is an important feature for me, but could be for someone else. The downside to the Kodak is the batteries. I do not like that Kodak put a disposable battery instead of a rechargeable one with a charger. It cost about $70 for these 2 added items. Te other thing I don't care for is where the zoom button is located, on the back and I prefer it to be with the snap button. Overall this camera is superb and deserves 5 stars!

The Canon gets returned and the Kodak stays! You will love this camera too, I highly recommend it!

I have been looking for a camera for the last few months for a upcoming trip, and managed to find this one for cheap. Most 8MP cameras usually go for about $100+ bucks, so paying nearly half that was a steal.

The camera itself is very lightweight and small, about the size of a credit card and about the same size as a man's wallet. I'm not a expert photographer, so my main goal for this camera was to get decent pictures and video for a low price.

The camera itself does a decent job of taking pictures with decent amount of sunlight, although it does start to have issues when going into darker areas. The good thing is there are multiple modes to reduce blur and take pictures in different climates (Snow, Beach, etc). The interface is easy to use, and does not require much thought on the user. You can also adjust the picture quality so you can take more pictures, although any mode below 6MP looks pretty bad.

Storage is very limited on the camera, so you can only take a few shots before the internal memory is full (about 10MB, which is barely enough for 10 8MP shots, and 40 1MP shots). SD cards are a must, with the 1GB SD card being able to store about 870 8MP shots.

The video quality is decent for a camera this cheap. You can either do 320 x 240 mode with 30FPS or 640 x 480 with 15FPS. Either way, the video is usually pretty decent and is at least youtube quality. On a 1GB SD card, you can store about 20 minutes in 640 x 480 mode, and 30 minutes in 320 x 240 mode. If you are looking to do a lot of video, a 8GB card might be recommended.

The downside of the camera is the build quality. The mode wheel at the top feels a bit cheap and hard to move, and the SD and battery card cover makes me feel like it will break at any moment. The USB type it uses is exclusive to Kodak cameras, so buying used might be a problem if you do not get the cable. The battery is a rechargable one, but it does not support any other battery types so you cannot just put new ones in on the fly.

Overall, the camera was very decent for the $56 I paid for it used. You can download the PDF and drivers from Kodak's site if you are buying used, but make sure you at least get the USB cable or charger.

Aaah, Kodak! My first digital camera was a Kodak several years ago (C300). It served me quite well for a long time and thousands of photos. But I began wanting something a bit more up-to-date and high-quality. I have owned several other brands since buying that first faithful camera, but almost all have quit working while the C300 still gets the job done (if the pictures are low resolution).

So, when I began shopping for a new camera - I was favoring Kodak. My experiance has been that their WasyShare line cameras are generally well-built, reliable camera (if sometimes a bit quirky).

I found the Z812is back in June when my family and I were planning a week-long vacation. The resolution was pretty impressive (at 8.2mp). The 12x Optical Zoom seemed useful, and the price (at that time) was decent.

I did not review this camera immediately, because I wanted to really put this camera through it's paces.

I'm not a professional photographer by any means, though I do take a pretty good family/scenic shot from time to time if I do say so myself. But this is a great camera for still photos. The colors are sharp, the features are useful and plentiful, and the camera is easy to use. Here are some of my findings.

Pros;
1) Good resolution (enlarge to 16 x 22 with no real pixelation).
2) Zoom (gets you right into the shot from a distance).
3) weight (I find that a heavier camera is often easier to hold steady).
4) Manual button controls (I do not like the trend of some toward touch-screen and heavily menu based controls) but this camera has REAL button controls.

Cons;
1) Video feature (Video looks pretty good, but the audio is horrible if you are in a noisy location).
2) You really do need the lithium-ion battery pack (but you can get a generic that is cheaper than the name brand).
3) Start-up time (I find this camera to be a bit slow when first turning it on, so power up in anticipation of that once-in-a-lifetime shot).

In conclusion - If you want a great (CONSUMER-LEVEL) point and shoot camera with a great zoom, this is it.
If you want a camera that does well with video - look into an actual video camera. But for the family photographer - this is a great investment.

By the way - you WILL need to pick up an SD/SDHC card as the file size of one photo tends to be in the 1.3mb plus range. I suggest at least a four gig card because they are so cheap now.

I purchased this camera from Target last yr since they had a great deal being it was Black Friday! Well, the first camera I bought that day, broke 2 weeks later...it would not turn on at all...so I luckily was able to return it. But I loved the camera so I exchanged it for the same thing....this time it worked....BUT, now, it is fully charged and when I go to turn it on, it will start up like it is going to, then it shuts right down....this happened 4months later....so now, I am screwed...no returns or exchanges and I'd have to PAY Kodak to fix it....OK, so if I pay them $50 to fix it, when the thing only cost me $89....now I am way overpaying for this junk!

VERY VERY VERY disappointing....I am not sure what it is with society today...we all have these great electronic tecnological tools yet they crap out on us shortly after....why???? SO WE GO BUY SOME MORE.....I tell ya, we bought a $2399 fridge from Sears...and guess what, not even a yr later, the repair man has been out 4 times replacing all kinds of parts.....yet, if you had a fridge in the 50s, the thing prob still works great!

Just venting...but I would stir clear of this camera.....but don't just take my word....or this site...look at other reviews...look at my complaint and see how many others really do have the same issue!!

I recently purchased this camera to update my old Kodak camera. I decided to purchase this one because it was similar to my old one. So far, the camera is easy to use and easy to transport; however, the time it takes to let me take another picture is too long. When I read reviews there was no mention of the delay in between pictures, but there should be! There is about a 15 second delay in between taking a picture and being able to take the next, which is a lot of time! Overall, the camera is not bad but I would look into getting a different brand if you want to take those "in the moment" pictures.

I bought this camera my senior year or high school, right before my senior trip. I needed a camera that was a little more than just a point and shoot cause at that time I was wanting to get a little more into photography. I could not afford a DSLR so I did a bunch of research in the Ultrazoom camera market. I found this one to be the best value for the price. It takes wonderful pictures under the "automatic" setting, which would satisfy the average person wanting to get good picture with a good zoom with good megapixels. But at the same time you can dig a little deeper with the manual settings and unlock a whole new world of photography. I have yet to figure out all of the settings and such since I am just happy taking good pictures under the simple pre-rendered settings that come with the camera. The image stabilization options are great too, which help take even greater pictures. If you are just thinking about getting into photography and are not sure about your commitment to the art, I would recommend this camera as a good companion!

Got the Kodak Easyshare for my Granddaughter who is 10 years old and had certainly shown great skills as a young photographer. I thought it was time to get her a camera of her own and after much research I settled for the Kodak. It wasn't a mistake. And if a 10 year old can use this camera so can anyone of you. After opening the camera for Christmas and putting it to use all in her family became jealous of how good it performed next to their cameras. However, after reading reviews I did get the rechargeable batteries and they are doing the job just fine. Photos are clear and I recommend that anyone buying this camera be sure to buy a memory card as well. The internal memory doesn't hold many photos but I have found that to be so with most cameras. The memory card takes care of that issue. The card is also better for downloading to the computer rather than using cable download form the camera.

I liked the picture quality but the battery life was short, so I purchased a backup battery. A year and a half later it turns on, then shuts down. I tried what Kodak support suggested, to plug to electricity bypassing battery with no luck. They estimate it will cost $80 to fix, and that doesn't make me happy, since I didn't use it very much in the year and a half I owned it. My husband's Canon is much older and reliable. I do not recommend this purchase if you want a product with reliability and longevity.

I bought the first Kodak series digital cameras in the 1990's - when they were only 1 megapixel.
(Have used Film SLRs previous to that- and owned a few digital cameras since)- just to preface this review with my experience level.
Stay away from this camera. It gives horribly grainy photo results- and generates jpeg file sizes that are half the size of my Canon S550 (which is only 5 megapixels- yes file sizes vary based on subject matter- but not by a factor of HALF the size- when the megapixels are much greater). Went through the manual- online help, and phoned Kodak. Confirmed manual quality settings for sharpness, High color, ISO, 8.1 megapixel, and aspect ratio- and still.. marginal/poor image quality. Confirmed- it is not a lighting issue either.
You'd think an 8.1 megapixel camera from Kodak would yield good photos. Well.. think again. I wish I bought something else and didn't waste precious memories with this crummy camera.

Finally found a replacement cable for my camera. The problem with this cable was the end that connects to the camera is too bulky to originally fit properly so I had take a knife and widdle down the top corner of the surrounding rubber to make it fit. Still the price makes it worth 4 stars, and it works which is all I care about.

So i got this camera a few days ago for photo class in school as a birthday present and jesus, what a great camera. I wouldn't suggest getting it through amazon though, i got it through amazon with a case, mini tripod, and a 4gb sd card, AND a cleaning kit for [...] with free shipping that got it to me in 3 days. Back to the camera, im not going to list all of the great things because there are so many and i don't have that much time but some of the few things that could be better are: the microphone for video recording kind of sucks but its manageable and the quality of the picture in the videos makes up for it, just don't try and use this to record music videos and expect to have amazing sound quality because it isn't going to happen. Also, the screen is great overall because its huge and is a touch screen, but the actual quality of the screen is so so and its pretty hard to see in bright sunlight but again, it is manageable because you can see, just not as well as if you were inside. The camera has like 22 different scene modes i think which is great and most of them are really helpful but most of the time i'll just use smart mode which basically does everything it can to make a great picture. You can crop on the camera which is cool and the 10 MP is great. Awesome camera, even better price, i highly recommend buying it, but through ebay not amazon.

Although I haven't been using this very long, it seems so far to be a very nice camera, maybe a few too many features for the average point-and-click family snapper (unless you have a hobby such as genealogy which requires it, most people are probably never going to use something like the document setting for instance) but relatively simple to use and one can avoid the more complex bits if one doesn't need them. It takes good quality pictures and I'm especially pleased that the flash doesn't seem to wash out my indoor subjects quite as badly as my previous cameras did.

However, the software is DREADFUL. A fault of Kodak's recent home use products is that the software is often geared towards the latest, highest-tech systems and most people simply do not have the fastest, newest, biggest computers available in their homes. On anything else, the software takes a very long time to start up and even the so-called "one touch" download (which is actually a several-stage process) takes an interminable length of time to fetch the pictures from the camera to the hard drive. It took over 20 minutes to download 48 photos (mostly shot at 5MP), which with my old camera/software (Sony Cyber-Shot with Picture Motion browser) would have taken 3 or 4 minutes. I also couldn't do anything else on the computer while the photos were downloading; whether this was a memory overload problem with the computer or whether the EasyShare software requires the computer to be dedicated solely to itself during downloads I don't know. Finally when I first installed the EasyShare software, it overwrote some of my DSL modem's files and I had to repair my internet connection.

Overall I think I am going to be very happy with the camera but I'm very frustrated with the software. I am looking for alternate download software to bypass the Kodak EasyShare software completely for the initial transfer from camera to hard drive.

I just got this camera 6 days ago, and though I had a Canon with many more features, this one beats it because it is user friendly for ANYONE, and it takes fantastic pictures! It takes shots of my 2 year old neice running or walking, my dogs in motion, low light, daylight, has easy buttons to use that even I can understand (and I'm not good with electronics) and can do many things I may never want to do.
However, the Kodak EasyShare Software is a joke, and I agree with all of you who have complained about the "EasyShare" software that comes with the M1063, but--GOOD NEWS. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO INSTALL IT INTO YOUR COMPUTER TO GET THE CAMERA TO WORK! If you did install it, UNINSTALL IT, AND CALL KODAK. All you have to do is call the Kodak toll free number 1-800-235-6325, listen for option to "put in a 2 digit code", in this case the option number is 20 and wait for a customer service rep to come on the line. Simply explain to her (I called 2 times before I got a person who knew what she was doing) but just tell them you'd prefer not to use EasyShare software and ask them to tell you how to just download photos from the camera into My Pictures, or wherever you want them to go. In my case, I wanted them in My Pictures so I could use Snapfish online services, and voila! within a few minutes, the camera was working and installing photos from the camera into My Pictures AFTER I UNINSTALLED THE EASYSHARE SOFTWARE. Had it not been for that woman, I was going to return the camera today 3-24-09. Folks, you DON'T HAVE TO USE EASYSHARE SOFTWARE, but I can't explain how to do it--they know at Kodak how to make this happen, though and don't even use it themselves! Just keep calling until you get a person savvy enough to help you, because it can be done. They'll take you places you've never been before on your computer, but they do know how to do this.

I purchased this camera in February 2009. In late November the camera stopped working. Shipped it off to Kodak's repair service "United Camera and Binocular Repair." Long story short, warranty repairs denied because of corrosion inside of the camera. ??? The camera did get a lot of use, however, it was never abused or exposed to excessive moisture (A few rain drops now and then...but thats it). I honestly expected this camera to last 5-6 years and when it died on Thankgiving afternoon I was a little upset that I was unable to capture any photos. I am even more upset that because of some design flaw that allowed moisture into the case, Kodak refuses to honor the 1 year warranty on this product.
Because of only mediocre picture quality, I probably would not have purchased another Kodak, but couple average picture quality along with a failure to honor the product warranty, I will never purchase another Kodak product again.

Even tho this cam is a yr or 2 old it's just as good if not way better than most of the cams in it's class and price range that records HD video. You can trust this statement. I spent much of this past Christmas break researching the best compact point and shoots with HD video recording capability for $200 and under. The three best were this Kodak M1033, the Canon PowerShot SD780 IS ELPH, and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T90. These cameras were almost exactly tied in all the ratings and reviews I studied. I chose the Kodak M1033 because it looked easier to operate and was priced for less. The only thing really negative to say about this camera is that it was a litte tough to find.

I just purchased the Kodak M863 digital camera and I couldn't be happier with it. It is easy to use and takes very good pictures. I have one very small problems with the camera. The user manual could have a been a little more informative. Not to worry though, you can get all the information you need on Kodak's web site. They also have a great support team . They can be contacted via the telephone and you actually get a real person to answer all your questions. This is a great little camera and for the price you can't beat it. Buy with confidence.

I bought this camera as a Christmas present for my daughter. By March we were returning it for the first time. It would not power on and the lens would not retract. After waiting for it for a month, it came back. It then worked for about a month before it did the same thing again. Then after receiving it back, it did it again. Now it is the end of August, 8 months after purchase, and it has broken for the Fourth - yes, count them - FOURTH TIME. They have replaced the lens assembly in the past, but for some reason it does not remain fixed.

My husband went out and bought the same camera during the first repair of the above camera. Now, after having it for 4 months, his camera is also broken. Yes, the same thing, the lens will not retract no matter what we do. The camera will not stay on. We have since spoken to another friend who also has this camera and also has the same problem. I don't know how many times this thing has to be returned before we get our money back so we can find a trustworthy solution.

I'll never buy Kodak again. NEVER. Be very careful about this purchase. There is obviously something going on that is not good with the manufacturing.

Kodak cameras are an incredible value and this one is no exception. I have never ever taken a single bad picture with it in the several years that I've owned it, and the 12x zoom is a wonderful addition (good enough zoom to take great shots of bears in Yellowstone). Color quality and focus on this one is perfect every time and the image stabilization helps insure that there is no blur. It does go thru regular AA batteries quickly, so you should order the rechargeable ones and a charger from Kodak. With the rechargeable kodak batteries, the battery life is excellent and it's nice to be able to swap in a regular AA's in a pinch if you run down the rechargeables and forgot to bring your charger. The ability to shoot HD video is also a nice bonus at this price point and works well.
