I checked out a few different cameras and kept coming back to the SX50. The pictures are clear and crisp unlike the Olympus it is replacing. The zoom on it is awesome. I took some pictures of the half moon a couple weeks ago with no tripod, just the camera resting on the rail of my deck. Zoomed in and wow! I work with a guy that has an expensive SLR and is a great photographer that told me ha has never been able to get a picture of the moon that was as clear as the one from the SX50.

The more you use it, the more you are able to do new things. The picture is super clear! The zoom is amazing! It's definitely a great camera for someone who doesn't want to have to learn how to use a some times complicated camera...

My wife and I are very happy with the camera. The quality of the pictures are very good (even in very dark places). You can take pictures very quickly. The camera has an excellent zoom and very good flash. Yet it is not an SLR. It is a very good camera if you would like to take pictures on vacation, if you want to photograph people, animals and landscape.

I had already a Canon SX40, which was good. I bought the sx50 because of the larger telephoto and superior image stabilization. So far I had only the opportunity to shot a few photos and the sharpness and stability are within my expectations. Only one problem. There is something with the shut on/off, since sometimes its failed to on or off, but taking the battery out / in its works fine. It is the same replacement battery I used for one year in the SX40, so the problem is not here. I'll continue checking it before taking a decision about what to do. Anyway, the zoom is so good that my problem now is city atmospheric haze, which after 200 meters distorts somehow the picture sharpness. I have to take the camera to the countryside!!!!!!

The features that attracted me to the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS are perfect (50x optical telephoto, hot shoe, TTL viewfinder); however, I would prefer that the camera did auto-stitching for panoramics (my Motorola Droid cell phone - 8 MP - does!).

everything a-ok so far. no hot shoe cover in the box though. wish the flash popped up on its own but that's not a major deal. just got the 32gb extreme sdhc card today so we will see how videos turn out as well. Lots of features, incredible zoom. will update more after taking newborn pics and seeing how that goes.***update*** the case logic DCB-304 case works but it is a tight fit. I managed my charger, card reader, extra battery, mini flexi tripod and camera in the case but it is snug getting in and out and that is all that would fit. For my needs I would go with something a tad bigger but I will make do for now.-videos look great even when zoomed, just need to try watching them on my tv to see how they turn out.

Really like this camera. The zoom lens has great depth of field and is not the cruel joke many super zooms on the market are nowadays. With a fast enough SD Card 80mb/s+ full 1080p high def video is possible. At around 30mb/s 720p is good quality. Stereo Sound recording is a plus. Last but not least, it's great to get a point and shoot style camera that is capable of taking RAW format images. Took this camera to Alaska and got the best eagle pictures of my life with it. Canon has a winner here!

I bought this for my girlfriend who doesn't have much photography background other than her $100 point and shoot. The photos come out clear as can be, and the zoom on this camera still amazes me. A great buy!

Placement of buttons may cause the user to accidentally hit one causing the camera to behave in an unexpected manner. Auto mode is pretty much useless. Auto-focus does a poor job. The camera will not focus rapidly enough to catch fast moving images.Sorry I purchased it.

I purchased the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS to use on a recent trip to Namibia. I was extremely pleased with the photos I took with my camera since I am not an experienced photographer. I did make some mistakes with taking pictures in very strong sunlight. They turned out a bit washed out but this was due to my lack of expertise. However, overall most of my pictures are way above what I expected. I was taking pictures through vehicle windows and of birds/animals at great distances. The stabilizer was excellent and I did not use a camera support at all. I would highly recommend this camera.

I did a lot of internet research to find a good quality camera. I have friends with camera's with very large & heavy lenses that need to be put on and removed. I really like the zoom functionality of this camera. I also takes pictures well in low light.It does not have the sensor size or some of the functions of a more expensive DSLR. But, for my purposes it is great. Used on July 4th and got some really nice fireworks shots.

I realize that this isn't an SLR - I'm an amateur Mom-tographer and didn't want to bite the bullet for a full-blown SLR. Besides - a megazoom seems like the right idea for shooting pics of my kids in sports and such. So - that said - I had a Sony, the plastic button broke on it. Next, bought a Nikon and the battery would start loosing contact and shutting off. Tried several trouble-shooting suggested by other users to no avail. My hubby bought me this one - it is noticeably more sturdy. Hoping it'll last longer than the other two. It has so many cool features, it's mind boggling. Very cool camera. I'm so excited to use all of it's features (well, the easy ones anyway!) Shutter speeds are much faster than either of my previous cameras and even in it's point and shoot mode - it is noticeably better. LOVE it so far - only had it a couple of days, but so far, it's impressed me. Image stabilization is nice from what I can tell - have to shoot some sports pics from the stands yet to tell you if it'll do a better job than my previous cameras. From my excursions the last couple of days -I believe it will out-perform. May add to this review - or re-review later - but so far so good.

I love this camera! I worked with my sister for five years in wedding photography and I am a artist. I have used non digital and older digital cameras before (Canon and Minolta.) I love the minolta because I trained on it and knew that machine inside and out, but it was an older camera and I needed a new camera that I did not use film. The zoom is a very nice feature on this camera, and the clarity is superb. For the price the camera is a steal.

I am no expert but I think it takes great pics. I bought it for the zoom capabilities to capture wildlife and it has not dissapointed. The detail it captures is great and even when doing 50x zoom being hand held it can capture a good pic. Some have been a tad unclear but I blame myself being hand held going out that far on the zoom not the camera itself. It gives you a lot of options which I am still learning about but for a point and shoot it is a nice starter. The view finder is a liability so I use the LCD 100% of the time. All my time has been outdoors so no comment on the flash. I did a lot of comparison research with an entry level DSLR and while a APS-C sensor would be great the zoom won out for what I want to do.

Got tired of the pictures provided by my cell phone. I wanted something that could take pictures in low light situations with a good zoom. The SX50 has more than met my requirements. On top of taking great pictures the SX50 has taken some great night time shots especially on the Fourth of Jul and with the powerful zoom, it seemed as if we were right inside the explosion.

I love this camera. I have had a couple of weeks to play with it and actually also got a book on digital photography to get a better handle on all the lingo and functions on the camera. It's a bit overwhelming and I have barely scratched the surface but the pics that I have taken are incredible. It gets a bit frustrating at times as I accidentally hit/change something and then don't know how I got there but that's not the camera's fault, more my novice experience. I have taken some amazing night shots of the moon (handheld), very impressive.

This is a perfect middle road camera-between a small point and shoot and an SLR. The 50x zoom is amazing and very stable even when zoomed in at low light.The monitor is super easy to see even in bright daylight but viewing through the viewfinder makes it even nicer. Using the diopter to adjust for those who need "reading glasses" is a phenomenal feature.I love the articulating monitor. It lets me see what I am looking at from above a crowd, around a corner (stealth-like), or from my lap where no one knows I am taking photos and therefore they still act natural. It is even lighter weight and slightly smaller than the earlier models with lesser zoom ranges (i.e. SX30IS). I love this camera!

Recently bought my wife a Canon DSLR for her birthday. She has been carrying her camera when we go on scooter rides and taking pictures whenever we stop. I've been bitten by the photography bug watching her. I wanted something that was easy to use, as well as easy to carry (no extra lenses to lug around). Read the reviews here on Amazon and watched many videos on Youtube about this camera. I am really enjoying the SX50 and have taken some pretty cool pictures. The zoom capabilities are awesome! My wife and I are enjoying the quality time together.

Purchased this camera for a trip to Costa Rica. Could not be happier with its performance. We got some incredible wildlife pictures that would not have been possible with a lessor camera. When using the zoom at full length a tripod is almost a necessity however to prevent blurring.

I have had many cameras and the most important feature for me is the Optical ZOOM, and the Canon 50x to 200x optical zoom is SUPERB. The only problem with the camera that Canon has to CORRECT occurs while gripping or holding the camera, when the outside palm of your right hand turns on the Function Set Button. They should lower this button a little so it would be protected from the gentle pressure of the palm while shooting pictures. Every time the camera is in my hand I have to REMEMBER to ease up on my grip so as not to activate this function. I am surprised that Canon did not catch this. Otherwise, the photos and movies are beautiful - sharp and clear. A camera worth having !!Jean Cygan

The first one was sent back due to a minor problem . the second one was sent refurbished by accident. the third one was perfect. The camera is amazing. it takes beautiful pictures, zoom is amazing, HD movies, slow motion is unbelievable. Just buy it you will not regret it

The optical zoom of this camera is awesome and it is excellent value for money. However, I find the fold-out viewing screen a bit unwieldy. Besides, when it is out of the recess, I am always aware of the somewhat flimsy build, and how easily it could break-off or get damaged when extended, if it were to bang into a hard surface. I wish the camera had been a little heavier for the sake of stability, maybe with a heavier battery?

No problems after gifting this to my father-in-law who takes too many pictures. He absolutely loves it and can't fault it all. He has told me that the battery doesn't seem to last as long as he thought but nevertheless loves it.

This camera does everything I was hoping for, including an incredible amount of optical zoom, for a very good price. The photo quality is astounding and the stabilization is great, even at high zoom. Although I prefer to use a tripod when using the higher levels of zoom I have taken some shots hand held and the stabilization is truly amazing. I have taken shots of hawks soaring behind my house and some macro shots as well and have been very pleased with the results. Of course this isn't a DSLR, but for my level of photography this camera meets all my needs without spending a fortune on a high end DSLR and several very pricey lenses.

I am not a photographer but I want to take great pictures, even from a distance. This is the camera I was looking for!I have a Canon EOS Rebel that I love, and I recently bought a zoom lens for it. If I had known about the Canon Powershot SX50 before buying the Rebel plus lens I could have saved myself a lot of money. It takes great pictures in Full Auto, but it also has all of the manual options as well. And the zoom is much better than what I could ever get on a lens for my Rebel--it has 1200 zoom PLUS digital zoom. I am really happy with how portable this camera is and how great the pictures are and it is very affordable at just about $400.

For the price this is an amazing camera. The telephoto is something to behold and the IS really works well even on very high power. It is well designed with comfortable and practical grip areas. I totally recommend this camera for photographers that are past point and shoot but not really at the pro level.

I bought this because of the zoom, as most would. I wanted a camera to carry with me on walks, and can't afford a huge zoom for my dslr. I had the Panasonic that was one of the "big" zooms--I think it was 10 or 12x--and I loved it until it died. The reviews led me to believe the quality of htis is as good as the Panasonic, but it doesn't appear to be. I am really unimpressed, and went to return it immediately, only to find out that I have to pay for the shipping, and it will take a couple of weeks for my refund. I am an Amazon Prime member--you'd think they'd at least pay for the shipping. Next time I'll buy locally. It's impossible to tell from online images what an actual photo will look like, and I need enlargement quality. It's possible that the particular camera I received was damaged--the box was dinged up and there was very little inside padding--the camera was pretty loose in the box...but I have no way of knowing that.

This camera is amazing for that task. I had looked at the SX30 and the SX40 in the past but for me testing them out at the stores the Autofocus just was not yet fast enough for me to be willing to work with. The SX50 changes that and has a very quick AF system that has already worked for me in a variety of situations for a sub 500 dollar point and shoot class camera I am extremely impressed with the AF system.

Been using a lot of Canon cameras for a while, even DSLR... but this one is my new love. Excellent picture quality, beautiful colors, big display, LOT of functions and the zoom... the zoom... oh boy! Is like having a camera attached to a telescope, sometimes it gets tricky to handle it, since at full zoom you move the camera just a little bit and youre pointing to a totally different place. With the image stabilization you'll always get sharp images.

This camera is a terrific compromise for someone who wants a long zoom (50X) in a relatively compact package with lots of features and without the high cost of a SLR model. It does have many buttons and requires careful handling. I used it for a few nature shots and have been very satisfied.

I haven't used it much. Taking my time and reading up on it. We had the largest full Moon that's been seen for years. I went out, after dark, and zoomed in on it. The Moon filled the screen. I took several pictures and they were really sharp. Amazing, I was just holding it in my hands.Also it's the first camera I've had that works fine in the "auto" setting. Colors, sharpness, contrast, etc.are almost perfect. Putting it on "P" didn't improve the picture.
