All I can say is, UNREAL! I took a picture of the moon at full, at about 75x Zoom. The 50x Optical zoom is just amazing, and the digital up to about 2x (100x total) is very good. I can see the lines, and craters on the moon in amazing detail. The pictures are stunning, and the video is amazing for the price. My only wishes, are that it would have had the option for "AA" batteries instead. Also, 12.1 is a bit small for MP these days. I wish it was at least 16MP or 18MP. Still... my moon shot was taken on auto settings at 2:30am in the morning, using only camera - no tripod. What i got, was the most detailed picture I have taken. The features of this camera are almost as good as a DSLR, at less than half the price. I have no issues showing this camera off, and the amazing pictures it takes. I highly recommend this camera to anyone.

After several days of field testing, I am impressed with many of the capabilities of this camera. The 50 x zoom really delivers. The pictures are acceptably sharp for a 12.1 megapixel camera and the color is excellent. There is an amazing range of features and controls useful to advanced photographers able and willing to venture beyond the green auto exposure button. My main complaint about the camera is disappointing 2.8" LCD, which is noticeably smaller and less handy than the 3" tiltable LCD on the Nikon Coolpix P510. There also are occasional struggles with the automatic focus. The Coolpix P510 is only 42x, but its 16.1 megapixels seem to produce sharper images. There can be moments with the Nikon when the automatic focus also is balky. Both cameras do acceptably well in low light. Anyhow, the more you use either of these cameras, the happier you are likely to be with them.

This is an upgrade from my other Canon. Super zoom and great pics in low light settings.Make sure you create an account with Canon Image Gateway to link your pics with WIFI to share with Flickr, Facebook, Youtube or any other service. One you link your camera to the Gateway, the rest is easy. Those steps could be tricky. Every else is pure Canon easiness.Would recommend.

The camera seems to work well, but if you have been using the Canon ImageBrowser 5 for storing photos, you should know that this camera is incompatible with it. Read the reviews of the ImageBrowser EX on Canon's site: [...]

For the price I can't be more pleased with the SX510 HS. Great photos, awesome zoom and all the setting you could ask for. Only issue I have had is the manual flash. Other PowerShots I've owned have had a auto pop up flash. Other than the flash issue I highly recommend the camera.

Having recently switched to "point and shoot" cameras from standard slr cameras, I am amazed at the clarity of this camera. The telephoto aspect is phenomenal as is the overall ease of handling. I have tried others brands of this type of camera. The Canon SX50 is in a class of it's own. I would (and have) highly recommend this camera.

Received this camera yesterday and have fallen head over heels in love. That being said, please know I am a point and shoot type of gal who lives on a lake with lots of wildlife hanging about. It's perfect. I played with it for several hours and have found some fun filters, e.g., a fisheye filter among others. For anyone looking for easy to carry and easy to shoot, this would be the one for you. Zoom capabilities are incredible, even in the digital mode. The one thing I learned in a photo course a long time ago is "read the manual." I'll be doing that over the next few weeks so I can take full advantage of everything this little camera has to offer... I may even get out of AUTO mode someday :)

Needing a long reach lens for my 50D I happened upon this SX50 for $400.Could this be real? You bet it is. While it is not a 50D it is a super value.I not only use it at 1200mm but through out the entire range from 28 to 1200mmand find acceptable results for the entire range.It is not a multiple frame camera that I would go to first since the viewfinderblanks out after the first frame is fired, but that is why we have the 50D.If you can get your picture with one frame, wait half a second then take anotherthen you are fine with this outfit. However in sports mode you can get a burstof up to 10 frames and still follow the action. I believe focus will be fixed on thefirst frame fired but it works pretty good. I have it for the 1200mm lens and it isawesome. Where else can you get 1200mm for only $400 and get a camera too!Sure contrast is not as good with my 50D but after all it is 1200mm,only weighs in at 20 ounces and while it wont fit in my pocket it is quite small.If you need a camera that has outstanding reach, is light weight, has Image Stabilitythen this is the one. I will use the SX50 along with my 50D and capture birds and animalsthat are out of reach with the 50D. On a long hike it will be nice to only carry the SX50and save 6 lbs by leaving the 50D in the trunk or at home. Canon got it right, of coursethey usually do!

Takes good pictures and the flash is stronger than most point and shoot cameras. The flash is over top of the lens eliminating red eye in most cases.

Got this camera for $318 on Thanksgiving. Best decision ever. I haven't had much time to use it but I did go for walk around my town a take pics. The pics are superb. I didn't mess with any settings and I got beautiful pics of wildlife. The zoom is wonderful. Even when zoomed in the pics are super clear. I am traveling to Europe and I wanted a good camera to take with me and I feel this is the perfect choice.

I really like my Canon SX50 which replaces an older Sony DSC-H5 7mp camera. There are many things the Canon doesn't do which I had hoped for, but all-in-all it's a great camera. While few of these bridge camera's can compete with DSLR's for image quality, the cost of a single lens for a DSLR can buy you a second camera. I will say that the SX50 is a great camera in this price range, but like any camera, it's up to you to learn how to use it within it's limitations. Also, You'll never know what this camera is capable of until you take it out of auto mode. Finally, the RAW images are better quality than the jpeg so you can step the quality up a notch by going RAW.What I like most about this camera is the zoom and the articulating screen, both of which I find indispensable for fun photography. While DSLR's are arguably better, there are many shots that a DSLR owner will pass up because they can't get close enough. As an example, You've all seen shots of a huge moon hanging over a boat/tree etc... Very impressive photo, in my mind! To take this kind of picture you need a boat/tree or anything else so far away that from where you are standing that it is smaller than the moon. You zoom in until the moon and subject fills your frame and snap the photo. This can be done with a DSLR, but many times requires a zoom lens that is too expensive for the average human being.The articulating screen is fantastic for those shots that require you to play twister to get. In addition, when it is very bright out you can reposition the screen for better contrast.

This has some nice features, but we still need to work with it a bit to come up with the perfect setting. Love the fact that we don't even have to connect to computer to get photos.

This camera is the perfect camera for birding.... 50x reach is amazing for getting ID shots of your birds. Been using this camera since March. It does have the typical Powershot issues with focus in low light, but the tradeoffs are worth it. I do question it's durability but for the price you can not have it all. I would buy it again for my use, which is a light mobile field camera for birding.

Great camera. No problems with battery running out or any difficulty with extended lenses..beautiful photo's. Only wish a book came with camera instead of computer disk as you have to keep going back to different things in order to learn how to do a new thing with the camera. The camera is well worth the money

I am loving my Canon PowerShot SX50 HS Digital Camera! Still learning the dos and don'ts. It takes beautiful pictures even when you are just learning! I was blown away with the optical zoom. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone that wants such a smart camera that won't empty your wallet!! Very pleased with my choice!!!

This camera is amazing. I bought it to take action pictures of my son during his freshman year of high school baseball and it gave me truly fantastic shots. I was able to stand to the right of a first base dugout and get shots of my son playing catcher. I was able to zoom in and see his face inside the catcher's mask. I went out past center field and was able to zoom in on my son while he was hitting, getting everything from the pitcher's arm slot to my son's reaction to the pitch. I was able to get multiple shots of his swing from another location and was actually able to correct a flaw that had crept into it. I also took some video of my daughter's band concert and was able to zoom while shooting video - truly amazing. I read the negatives about low-light photography. I have done some inside shots with and without the flash. With ambient lighting, I have not seen any problems. Perhaps the negatives are when shooting from extremely low ambient lighting, but I do not see myself shooting in those conditions. I highly recommend this for shooting sporting events.

I am satisfied with this camera and my transaction with Amazon. My camera was delivered before the actual delivery date which made me very happy. The camera provides the distance photos I had hoped for. I have owned about 6 Canon cameras and I do believe Canon could have used a body for the camera that didn't feel so cheap, but otherwise it performs as I expected.

I could not spend $15,000 for a 600 mm or 800mm lens. This powershot goes from 24mm to 1200 mm optical zoom for $440 approx. I found it very light (nice) and even handheld at 1200mm the resolution was fair to good. On a tripod better of course but I never thought about handholding at that range but it is possible. The quality at the low range is exceptional and at the long range acceptable although not the fixed lens quality (but at the price I was surprised). I bought it as a travel camera. I do a lot of action captures and it just does not auto-focus fast enough for action sports so if this is your vent this is not the camera for that. The view finder is a bit dark in trying to focus and is slightly better with the live view. Overall I rate it a 5* for the purpose in which I bought it and found it a great value. Do get extra batteries and the cable release but forget the other accessories. Emle

I've had point and shoot cameras all my life from old 110's, disc cameras, 35 mm and assorted digitals. I have really enjoyed this camera. I think it's a great camera for someone wanting to raise their level of photography. There is some of the same features that you would find on a DSLR camera. This is a good way to learn some the settings and modes without jumping off in to a high end DSLR with multiple lense. Don't be fooled it's not a DSLR. Go to Best Buy and look at this camera and then pick up a DSLR and you will see the difference. Just the feel of weight and quality is night and day. You also will not get out the door with a DSLR for under $400(which you can with the PowerShot SX50). You'll have to shell out another $200 for a bottom end DSLR and you still will not have the zoom power of the lense on the PowerShot. So enough of that, back to the camera. So far I've gotten some great pictures with it. Maco shots are good on it and the zoom is insane! I've gotten some great shots of the moon, with great detail. It's a little tight between the lens and the right side grip. The strap they send with the camera is junk and the battery is so, so. It has definately gave me the fever to get more into photography and get a $4000 DSLR(That's not in the budget for now). There's some great resources at the local library on photography(books and DVD's). Bottom line is I personally love the camera and you can get some great photos with it. That's just my opinion.

I find my camera compact and designed to fit in you hand. Very clear picture , love the zoom and very simply to operate. It fits my needs very well and would definitely recommend it to friends if they are in the market to purchase a new camera.

I bought the SX40 this time last year and have been very pleased with the results.When I saw Canon had brought out the SX50 I was curious as to the changes. I bought it for Christmas and I am a big fan of the zoom.I took a picture of a Kingfisher which I saw land on a tree way in the distance. I could only see it with my binoculars. I pointed the camera in the same direction and zoomed in. The focus was excellent and I was able to crop the photo on the computer to get a really close sharp picture. I was delighted with the result.I mainly photograph wildlife, especially birds, in good light. I haven't had the need to bother with anything in low light.I've had many different cameras over the years, all with attachable lenses, but now I have severe arthritis in my hands it's impossible for me to deal with all the extra equipment. This camera is ideal for my situation. It's light to carry and easy to manage and I'm very happy with the results.However, on the negative side, I don't like the push button to switch it on and off.What was Canon thinking NOT to include the lead for the camera? For we, who own the previous model it's not a problem, but it seems very short sighted to ask someone to spend $400.00 plus, and then expect them to have to buy a lead.The SX50 includes a basic instruction book, but it would be nice to see the next model include both the lead and a proper instruction book.If you are used to a good solid camera,and can manage the extra lenses this is not for you, but for convenience and comfort, it's a nice little camera.

I bought this camera for my Wife as a Christmas gift. She tells me she loves it. It take great pictures and the zoom is great. the only thing she is having a problem with is the wifi, but the main reason she wanted this camera is for the zoom. So far she is very happy with it

You will probably need a tripod when maxing out the zoom. I just shot an excellent handheld photo of a bear however...zoom not 100% maxed out but close...I am very happy with this camera!!!For general picture taking it is excellent. Need to learn all the bells and whistles for it. I like that it has a hot shoe for an external flash. I have no complaints about the camera that can't be likened to user error. Sometimes the auto focus can't grab the subject (happens with all auto focus cameras though.) All in all, I recommend the camera but be prepared to have to learn the different controls.I will agree with some of the other comments that the body is just a too small allowing you to accidentally hit the menu wheel and change the settings unknowingly. I accidentally turned on the self timer and didn't know how to turn it off at first. :) Live and learn!

For the amateur, mind you, this is a great camera. Can't speak for all you professional or semi-professionals, but the zoom on this camera is amazing for those of us who have the point and shoot mentality. The wonderful thing about this camera is that it has many of the self-adjusting options of a dslr, but it will do it all automatically for you as well. We really love the slow motion video, and the incredibly close-zoom

I love the camera but was very disappointed with my order. I ordered the camera to have it for New Year's eve and did receive it on time but NO sim card or bag were included in the packaging. The bag and the sim card were advertised as part of the purchase price. This is very deceitful!!!

It seems to do everything it's supposed to do. I had some doubts about how good a 50x zoom could be; buit the thing works just fine. Is it the sharpest long lens on the planet? No, but but it's great for the price. So far it looks like anything up to 8.5 x 11 will look great. And if I want to go 16 x20 there's always PerfectResize 7. Very pleased with the SX 50. When my expensive lens runs out at 200mm it's real nice to reach back in the bag, grab the SX 50 and know nothing is going to get away. No problems, it just plain works.

I am amateur photographer who has had limited experience with point and shoot cameras but I really like this one. I looked at another brand at a big-box store and the sales person highly recommended the Canon.I have been an Amazon customer for several years so I had no problem ordering the camera from them. Good choice.

Pretty easy to learn how to use this camera and it takes awesome pics. It really needs a steady surface for extreme zoom, but the quality is great. Takes excellent wildlife photos and moving shots. Also good for indoor photos (I use it to photograph my work as a kitchen and bath designer). Just remember, the flash is not automatic--you must pull up the flash if you need it. The rechargeable battery lasts much longer than my old Canon and charges quickly. Couldn't be happier with this camera.

I needed an inexpensive camera for weekend road trips. I did not want to lug my DSLR around with me while visiting various bars and such. This Canon takes very nice shots and is compact enough to bring in anywhere. Great zoom and image quality is better than I thought it would be.

This camera is so nice to work with and the image stabilizer system that built into it, allows you to shoot very smooth camera scenes even walking with it, without the handheld shake that normally goes with that kind of shot....that blew my away!

My girlfriend had been eyeing this camera for a while before Santa got it for her for Xmas. She loves it's "fun-size", wifi capability, sharing features and learning all the different picture settings. Definitely earned me some serious points! Thanks Canon ;)

I just received this camera as a gift. It's probably a great camera but it comes with a Cd to install the software but doesn't include the cable to attach the camera to your computer to be the basic installation. Have to buy that separate. Bad business Canon. It's going back.
