This printer consumes a VAST amount of current. It causes other equipment on a 20-amp circuit to freak out, sending nearby AVR gear to go into cutout mode and making UPSes produce squawks of pain, even though it's not even drawing current through the UPSes. When idling, it continues to switch and draw current, continuing to make life difficult for nearby equipment. When operating, it makes about as much noise as a hair dryer -- quite surprising for its size, and more than a little startling. The feed mechanism is weak and will begin to fail after a moderate amount of use. Jams occur even with premium paper, and unjamming requires care and patience and quite a lot of force since the paper transport has no clutches. The machine is *very* cheaply made and feels flimsy, from the case to the transport. Worse -- you must leave the door on the front open, so it's footprint is larger than listed (add an extra 5 inches to the depth).This is an all-around terrible value with many problems and only a few advantages (cost, driver support, size). If you spend just a little more you can get something that's worlds better.

I am having the same paper feed issues as some of the other reviewers and it has been only a year (I print very occasionally). It worked great at first and I was really pleased it printed amazingly fast and I thought it was perfect for my needs. But now it is impossible to use, extremely unreliable, I never know when it will work or not. Paper feed stopped working and it does not matter what I do I can't get it working again.

I am a Realtor and needed an economical printer. The inkjets were proving to be too costly. With that in mind I need a color laser printer and decided on this one because of the multifunction abilities. The printer has provided good clean and crisp images which I am pleased with. The machine works as advertised and the ink usage seems reasonable. I have yet to get to 75% of the starter cartridges capacity after 1000 pages of print.Few minor problems that I don't like concerning the printer:1) It is louder than I like when it's awake.2) Takes too long to go back to sleep mode after it prints, est. 1 hour3) Flat bed scanner is not good, allows some sidelight. Worst scanner I've owned from a quality of scan point of view.4) The auto feeder is really rough on paper and will skew the paper when you are faxing. I use a nice heavy grade of paper and that works fine, but recycled standard paper may rip during copies or scans.Those are my complaints. I have not used all the features in the month I've owned it, but those are the functions that I use.With that being said, I would buy this printer again. The price was outstanding and I purchased a 3 year replacement warranty in the event that it does not have longevity.Good luck to you all.Greg

I really loved my Samsung ML-1710. But it wouldn't pick up paper and I tried to fix it myself and haven't been able to yet. So, I ordered this one and have noticed that it takes longer to print out the first page. Once it starts it seems fast enough though.It is also harder to do envelopes since you have to unload all your paper and insert the envelopes down there. I have not been able to manually feed through the top.And the Paper tray does not hold as much as the old one. I was surprised by all this since I thought Samsung would have made a better replacement not a worse one.I am going to get someone to fix my old one.

I own a CLP-500 & a CLP-510. Very happy with those Samsung printers EXCEPT no Networking. Set one up manually and worked so-so,The CLP-600N is PERFECT in that area. EASY setup (3 computers) FAST responce to print. Great quality, 1200dpi compared to 600dpi on the older ones. BUT it does 2 things that "annoy" me. First, to print BOTH sides, you need to do it MANUALLY. Second, it randomly asks for paper from the side tray. Windows is setup OK, even tech support don't know why?...As I said before ALMOST perfect. Very happy with it!

This product is best for those who have only an occasional need for a few copies. It is very noisy, gets very hot after 20 copies, curls the paper severely making 2 sided copying difficult, and paper jams are the rule rather than the exception if making more that around 10. We are also experiencing a lot of garbled jobs at times that waste paper by spewing out incomprehensible jabber on paper. When it does work, on small jobs, it is fast and the print is clear. Right now we are experiencing an inability to obtain a compatible toner cartridge at either Office Max, or Office Depot. We are exploring an on line purchase of toner, but we needed copies yesterday. I would not recommend this for anyone unless the price and foot print are a perfect fit. I think most of us under-estimate our printing needs and, when the time comes for an moderate sized job, you will find yourself with a lot of wasted time and paper.

This printer constantly jams. Usually when I'm trying to print on the second side. So, I'll get 20 pages just fine, then it'll jam on the backside and ruin the page numbering. I'm no tree hugger, but I feel bad about wasting almost 40 pages each time I try to print a chapter for school.

Not sure what happened to Jazzy from Boise, but...here is my story. I bought this printer for $17*.** from Office*****, got the printer home, unpackaged it, put in toner, plugged in network cable, printed a demo/test page by holding in the "online" button and then releasing it, installed the network setup cd, software autoplayed, software saw my printer immmediately, software finished, printer installed perfectly. IP address was automated based on my network and router settings. Simple. Extremely fast, brilliant colors, detailed photos somewhat grainy, but remember, this is not a photo printer...so the resolution is lacking in that area just a little. Over all for the price...great printer, just FYI, I would suggest either refilling your own toner cartridges or buying refurbished...otherwise they are just under $13* each new at OD.

I have been very impressed with this printer. It's quick and dependable, easy to use. Quality print images. I print on average about 20 pages a day and it serves my needs beautifully. My only complaint is that it takes up more room than its footprint because 6-7 inches of clearance is needed for the structure on the back where cords attach. If your desk backs up to a wall, the printer will take up 19-20 inches of desk space leaving limited workspace in front of the printer.

Just a couple of points to add to the other two reviews. Before I purchased the unit I called Samsung support just to see what the service was like. I was pleased that I had to make just one menu choice until I spoke to a human. I took the opportunity to ask if the unit was Vista compatible and for them to prove it. It is, and he located the driver I would have to download on the internet. I did use their service quite a bit over the course of the first day because I had some difficulty setting it up as a network printer.The unit is fine for our needs. My wife is a commercial real estate broker and we do a lot of printing, scanning, copying and faxing.One drawback is that it has one paper tray that holds only 150 sheets of either letter or legal size paper so a larger office might experience running out of paper or excessive switching back and forth. It does have a maunual feed but everytime I tried to feed a sheet of paper in the manual feed, it ate it. I believe it is intended for heavier stock paper.We are satisfied with the unit and recommend it.

This is, hands down, the single worst printer I've ever experienced in over 10 years in the IT industry. Here's just a few of the reasons why:->Overheats. Badly. Like the surface of the sun. This negatively affects the paper and the toner that come out of the printer, causing sheets to come out looking 'wavy'.->Paper feed jams *constantly*. Letter, legal, doesn't seem to make a difference - the printer jams at least 50% of the time, and sometimes it jams in such a way as to be difficult to clear.->No duplex, manual or otherwise. Any attempt to duplex manually will result in a paper jam.->No accessibility for certain kinds of jamming. You literally need to disassemble part of the printer just to clear a jam. Paper accordions into the printer and becomes very difficult to clear out.->Advertised as quick warm-up, but in a real-world environment it is painfully slow to warm up.->Print quality is hands-down the worst I've ever seen. The blacks are closer to gray, there are print voids in the solids (white lines), paper alignment is inconsistent, and this is all with a new cartridge.->The manual feed pull-down shelf is flimsy. The arms break with regular use.->Samsung support (the most important issue here) is absolutely horrendous. Their solution to the problem is, after hours on the phone, to send a refurbished printer to replace the unit. 3 printers and 4 print cartridges later, the problems *all* persist.->The cost of cartridges is exhorbitant. What you save in buying this low-end printer is more than made up with what you'll spend on low-yield, low-quality toner cartridges.Our experience with this printer is truly a sad statement on the quality of Samsung products and support. Pass on this one, research the alternatives.

But I contacted the vendor and he had mistakenly sent me the reloaded item. So he sent me another reloaded cartridge FOC. The original one he sent me is going strong!! At the price, one good cartridge was an outstanding deal but now I have two for that price. Sweet.

I purchased this printer when it was on sale. The printer costs less when I bought it than the printer cartridge. Great deal. I use it in small business networked environment. It is connected via Keyspan USB server and works flawlessly. It has never jammed or failed to print. The first cartridge lasted several months with a moderate number of images printed. I replaced the original cartridge with an official Samsung cartridge (no refilled) and it is still working just fine. I have printed 4144 pages with this printer to date. The quality is fantastic for the money. I recently purchased a 2nd one along with a toner cartridge. The 2nd printer even cost less than the 1st and I found a great deal on the cartridge as well. I use good stock paper 24# and I don't' overload the tray, nor do I move the printer around. It is always on, always ready and always works. Toner saver by pushing a button or software configuration is the key to long cartridge life and is easy to pre configure so you will not accidentally send a large job with the toner saver off. I have never owned a printer that was better value.

As a graduate student, I needed to find a basic black and white laser printer that produced high quality text documents...and a lot of them for cheap. So I was naturally apprehensive when I read a few of the reviews of this product on Amazon. After using it extensively for three weeks, my concerns were completely unfounded. It took about twenty minutes from opening the box to printing the first document. Even if you are not tech-savvy, it is easy to set up and the software walks you through everything. The box contains everything you need except for the cable that connects your computer to the printer and paper.Many people complained about the noise that the printer makes when warming up. I found it to be no big deal; it lasts for about five minutes and is quieter then my coffee maker. If you are still using an inkjet printer, stop reading this and place an order immediately! Seriously, why are you still reading? This is better than anything you will find in the big box stores, in its price range, and will print more documents for less money. I use it in `Toner Save' mode and the text looks great.Bottom line: if you need a black and white printer for home, light business, or educational use that is reliable and easy to use, look no further. If you need to print high quality graphics or integrate this computer into some high end IT network...well, you may want to buy something else. For my $131 (with shipping), I really could not expect anything more.

Economy laser printers are more available, but are they worth the admittedly good prices? This Samsung is.I've only owned it a couple of weeks, but the ML-2510 is a solid printer that prints fast, with good quality. I've not printed photos or artwork with it, so I can't say how the image quality is with those works, but text looks very good.I returned a previous Samsung because the machine started putting out smoke with each page (yikes!). I also was not impressed with that machine's print speed. This machine is definitely an improvement.Highly Recommended for a budget printer.An update six months later: The machine continues to work flawlessly. Print quality is very good. It gets light use (maybe 150 pages per month). Heartily recommended.Second update: I've had this machine for a couple of years, and it still works well. You do have to read the instructions on dealing with paper jams. One cannot take the machine apart to get the paper out. You have to press the print button to advance the paper out. It works. I am still very impressed with the machine. I have only had to replace the toner cartridge once.

It is a good printer for the price I guess. But if you ever need to print on envelopes, buy something else, because it is a tremendous pain to do so with this printer. It takes about 60 seconds to print a single envelope and you must feed the envelopes one at a time, because any more than one envelope in the envelope slot will jam it up. Otherwise, the quality of print is good, but it could definitely be less frustrating to use.

good quality print for cost. only complaints is that the paper tray isn't deep enough to hold more than 50 sheets of paper. It occasionally jams and the paper feed doesn't have a release for the paper jam so you have to fight to pull it out. I am fairly satisfied otherwise as I only use it for school to print up notes and papers.

There is virtually no useful documentation on how to setup the printer in a networked environment. There isn't much information on the web either. So after 3 hours of experimenting, here's a how-to guide to benefit someone else who may be on the same path. After connecting the printer to a LAN access point, pop in the 'Network utilities' CD and install both utilities in there (setIP and another one that I can't remember the name). Pull up your router's dhcp configuration and take note of valid, assignable dhcp IPs. Run SetIP. You won't see your printer. Click on the add printer button. Fill in the MAC (from printout from clp600n). For IP/Gateway, use a valid dhcp IP noted above. Subnet mask stays the same. After this, you should be able to get communication between the printer and SetIP. Now pop in the printer software CD and install the drivers. The rest should be a breeze. I'm not sure what happens if the dynamic IP changes so to preempt any nasty surprises, you might want to block your router from assigning out that IP to other access points. You can do that in your router settings. Hope that helps!

I've only had this printer for a few days and I agree that the documentation on this printer is poor. However all that is required to set this printer up on a wired LAN is to install the printer driver from the installation CD on each PC on your network. There is no need to use the included network utilities unless you want to change the IP settings on the printer, itself. Default is DHCP, and my printer was assigned an IP address by my router with no issues.Choose 'typical network set-up' (second choice) and your printer will be found. Check the box and drivers will be installed and you are done.The printer does emit a heated plastic smell upon power-up, but it is very quiet at idle and the smell has mitigated significantly over the last two days.

That means I can prepare for a client meeting, print off marketing materials as I need them thus saving me time and effort to get ready for a client. Put another way - I do not have to make a special trip just to print off materials - I can do it from my home office.

The Samsung ML-1740 has been a superb printer that had never even had a paper jam *until* I foolishly tried to save some money and switched to a no-name "compatible" toner cartridge. The first one was OK, but I had several paper jams, and the second one has destroyed my printer. It now makes a horrible knocking sound every time the rollers are moving.I would switch back to a Samsung cartridge, but at this point, I don't know if the printer would work, so I am going to buy a new printer. I will certainly buy another Samsung, and I will certainly stick with the manufacturer's own toner.

Bought this for $50 after discounts for school use. Jams ALL the time: often pulls 2 sheets from the paper tray, and when it heats up the pages start to stick together. I have to watch it very closely whenever printing anything over 10 pages, ready to fight with the bugger if it starts to jam. When it jams, things really get stuck because the internal rollers are very tight and don't move. Printing is aAlso, very noisy: it squeaks a lot and you can hear the rollers inside. Okay for light use but get a better printer if you need to print more than just a few pages now and then! I wish I had.

After about 5 weeks of light use the printer had a paper jam, and subsequently is stuck with a "transfer belt error" and won't operate. Samsung sent us two replacement belts, neither of which worked. We've been without a printer for several weeks. Now we're just trying to just get either a replacement or refund, which has proven difficult so far.

BEWARE that the Samsung CLP-600N color laser printer literally stinks! Upon powering it up it emits a sickening toxic smell that sent everyone in our office outside for fresh air. Tech support says it emits a normal amount of smell. Compared to what is the question.With a pounding headache from the printer smell I attempted to hook the CLP-600 into our ethernet network. But we're all Apple Mac users. FORGETABOUTIT. Although the Samsung network manual claims the CLP-600N is Mac compatible, it aint. Or at least that's what the Samsung techie stated which is contrary to their network manual supplied with the unit.Four tech calls were all answered by the dumbest "customer service" reps I've ever encountered who are apparently trained to hang-up on calls instead of resolve issues.Did I like the Samsung CLP-600N printer? It's been a complete waste of time and gasoline. But I did learn that my 50" plasma TV will NOT be a Samsung.

After changing one more time the ink cartridges of my girlfriend's printer and computing what I spent in the past 2 years, I decided to look at a laser printer. The reviews in amazon and cnet (although mixed) for this monochrome ML-2010 made me try it. So far, I am glad I did.An interesting aspect is that the printer is one of the few that claims to work for Windows, Mac and Linux. This was of interest for me as I have a small network of Windows and Linux machines. The printer indeed does work on Linux (Suse), although I found one problem to overcome [...] I must warn you however not to count on Samsung support for Linux.Regarding the many complaints here [...] about the "grey" printing (and I dismiss that this was due to the "save-toner feature"): I saw this happen when printing with simple editors, but not when you print a web page from your browser, or the typical word processing program (Windows or Linux equivalent): the printing was excellent in these cases (I did not study the "grey" cases in more detail).Which is the real price of this printer? the initial toner lasts 1,000 pages, and the one you buy later will print 3,000 pages and costs like the printer. In summary: approx 160$ for 4,000 pages. Let's just hope that it is true.After a perfect "printing week", I begin to think that this may indeed be an excellent choice for a home (or small office) laser printer (I will update the review if I find otherwise in the months ahead), if you don't need color. [Note added after 6 weeks of use: perfect performance, confirmed].It is also interesting that Samsung is trying to offer products that work for Win-Mac-Linux. And, the day that Samsung support were to include just one competent person for linux, it would be perfect (and it would get 5 stars from me). But, even so, it is a good step forward.

I have been looking for a laser printer for my home office for while, but wasn't ready to spend $450+. This printer was on sale at a major office supply chain for under $200 so I thought, why not? There is a plastic-y smell when printing, as mentioned by another reviewer, but I was assured by a very helpful customer service rep. at Samsung that it would go away. I had no trouble setting up the software for my Mac. I'm a graphic designer and was concerned about print quality - the color seems to be quite accurate, though the detail/solid color coverage does look a bit "grainy". Warm-up and printing speed are quick. There is an 1-year ON SITE warranty. For the price I paid I feel like it's a good, maybe great, value.

I give this one five stars for a reason, because it does what I need it to do. I did NOT get this printer to print any kind of graphics. I needed something that was affordable, prints fast, prints legibly, and can handle the workload that I dish out to it. As another reviewer stated, this is definitely a workhorse.One of the things that impressed me the most about this printer is how easy it was to set up. The night that I received it, I needed it for printing self-laminating cable labels for a telecommunications project I'm working on. Within 30 minutes, I had the printer set up and running without any problems whatsoever. I used the front loading tray to manually feed the sheets of labels, and the rear output tray in order to eliminate the possibility of any of the labels from coming off and causing some sort of a jam.Over all, this printer does what I need it to do. Another deciding factor for me was the cost of replacement toner cartridges. The cost ratio for the amount of pages per cartiridge, is very affordable. And one last thing, noise is not an issue either as others have commented on.

My school charges a lot of money for printing. That was my initial reason to buy this printer. I print my class handouts almost everyday. Printing speed and quality are both great. As a laser printer, the price(110$) was affordable, too. With a limited budget, I think this is the most competitive laser printer in market as far as I searched through. If you need to print a lot of stuff at home, this printer might fit to your purpose.

I've been fooling with various cartridge-based printers for years, always saying someday I would get another LaserJet. I paid $3700 for my first one in the early Eighties. So I've been thinking a laser would cost quite a bit more than the cartridge based printers. They do, but when you can buy a printer as good as this ML-2010 for about the same as a cartridge printer, there is no longer any reason to mess around.I've had the printer for about three weeks. It installed effortlessly, operates effortlessly, produces beautiful results and is a joy to use. It has not caused the slightest problem. Mine is for home use and just may be the last printer I ever buy, unless at some point I buy a color laser.

We bought this printer for our office, printing a few hundred b&w pages per day. We wanted a printer without too many bells and whistles, and primarily one that had an ink cartridge capable of printing LOTS of pages without needing replacing. The printer does exactly that. The only drawback is that it is a bit louder than it seems it should be. Other than that it is great.

I have had this printer for about four months, and it is a joy to use. I print word processing documents and web pages, and they look great. I have not yet used up the toner cartridge which comes with the machine.After suffering with poorly performing ink jet printers, I gave up color and found performance instead. This printer is not particularly picky about how I load the paper. It has not (to date) jammed on me at all. And the printer doesn't care how often I use it-- I get the same results no matter what I do. I am astonished to have such a reliable machine at this pricepoint.

Ужасно

I was never informed that I was getting refurbished printers. When I complained I didn't receive an answer for over a week. Then the answer said that I may return them but only if they didn't work. I am disgusted with AMAZON and will never order from AMAZON again.

Despite the title, there are no paper jams. Instead - after about 6 months - the unit just tells me that there is a paper jam, when there isn't, every time I try to print something. I only paid about $80 for it, but I was hoping it would last a little longer.

This is the best buy in a black and white lazer printer there is. I use it on the road all the time and gives me professional documents every time. It is compact enough to fit almost anywhere and the cartridge lasts forever.

This printer hits the sweet spot for my home printing needs. I use a multifunction for color jobs, copying, and scanning, and use this one for high quality, fast, cost effective black and white printing. I love it.

Samsung ML-2010 Mono Laser Printer is one of those few pices of hardware that I wish I never bought. It comes with Linux driver on installation CD, but it requires libgtk-1.2 because for some stupid reason engineers at Samsung decided that everyone will want to install driver using GUI (Graphic User Interface). Well, I need the installer to also work in CLI (not only be started from command line), and if it does not, I consider it a VERY BAD DESIGN. Requiring GUI to install printer driver is plain wrong, and I'm guessing that this may have contributed to the fact that none of the major Linux distributions include built-in driver for this printer. For those interested, I've had it working in Debian Sarge and Fedora, but Debian GNU/Linux testing/unstable (2.6.16-2-686) wont let you install the driver which comes with the printer. Oh well, next time I will think twice before buying anything from vendors who do not understand Linux or do not care about Linux users.
