I've had this thing on pretty heavy use for a year plus and I'm satisfied, although I had to turn in the first after a few months because the roller thing in back actually melted and caused a total breakdown. Number 2 is a charm.However, if you plan on using it wirelessly, think again. Esp with a Mac. The instructions suck and it is pretty much impossible. I spent endless days trying to get it to work and after a great deal of fuss, it's tethered to my desk as though it had no W. I've heard the same from others, so it's not because I'm a moron, but because it is impossible to get it to print wirelessly.

I bought this to print documents as I home educate and we already have an HP Officejet for colour etc. When I set it up it failed to operate and so I contacted Samsung who gave me an authorisation number to get it replaced. I actually bought it from Argos and had to trek miles to find a store with a replacement. Less than 2 months later, the fuser unit has gone. I will not be buying another. Pity Samsung printers are not of the same quality as their mobile phones.

I bought this printer (from other shop) based on great reviews, after some 10 years of using Brother printers, which never failed me and were cheap to run but I wanted to try something new after last Brother needed a new drum (and it's cheaper to buy a new printer which I always did).First impressions were very positive, very classy look and immaculate print quality.Pre-installed toner ran out after about a month of moderate use (about 50 pages/day) but then most default toners ran out fast. I bought a "high-capacity" (2500 pages, which is low-capacity for any other make) toner cartridge which cost an arm and a leg - ?50+, but that one lasted about the same! I got 1500 pages tops, all of 1/3 page of text, no graphic, on saver mode.Now 4 months past, and I used 3 extra toners, and 1 default. That's a lot, considering their costs (Samsung put a chip on their toners so you can not use generic models or re-fill them) and the actual page output which averaged 1500 pages vs 2500 advertised. The problem is Samsung's cartridge is combined with the drum, which is good for image quality, but to replace a drum after 1500 is a real waste, they should make higher-capacity cartridges for say 8000 pages, then I would understand. No other printer requires drum changed afer 1500 pages. Average entry level Brother (say 2040, 2050 etc) lasts a year easily, that's some 15000 pages for me before you need to replace a drum (or, rather, a printer but at ?50 that's OK).I think that was my last toner I bought for it now, next time it runs out I will go back to Brother and buy a new printer instead. This one will go to freecycle or charity.Hope this review will help those who prints more than 10 pages a month and need to calculate the cost of printing, not just the printer.5* for print quality and 0* for running costs, make it 2 1/2*.

Pros
This toner works like a charm. I just refilled my samsung ML-1865w and it works perfect.

Cons
The instructions are worthless. Just threw them away. If you follow them, your toner won't work and you may end up damaging it.

Recommendation
Just go to youtube and search on how to refill samsung toner and follow the instructions. You will be amazed how easy and effective the instructions are. There is even instructions on how to change a chip which are not included in the original package.

Pros: Fast printer, good print quality, scans fine using Windows 7 Home Premium OEM install after drivers downloaded and installed from Samsung's website. Home installed by a nerd.Cons: Printer is connected to home network through a server - will not allow manual duplex in this configuration from anything but the server, really kind of frustrating since I have to use the server to print any manual duplex jobs I want.Printer sometimes feeds paper incorrectly - doesn't cause a paper jam, it just feeds two sheets instead of one. Single sided jobs - not a problem, I'll just take the blank sheets out by hand. More of a nuisance than anything else. However, my latest 80 page printer job required a manual duplex, it grabbed pages 12 and 13 together and thus threw off the entire duplex job. Tried it again and it did it again with pages 22 and 23. Decided against running through the rest of the ream and I'm going to send the job to Staples. Printer can't be trusted to do jobs that require a double sided professional looking product.Would I recommend it? No, it's a nice printer, but I'm shopping for a new printer that can feed paper properly.

Ok, here's a little shout-out for this printer. I'm a die-hard HP LaserJet fan in the office setting, but I picked one of these up at a big box "depot" store two weeks ago $119.99. It's the 2nd Samsung I've ever bought, with the 1st one being about 7 years ago. I was looking for a small laser printer for my home office, and was about to buy the HP LaserJet Professional P1102w for $99.99. But then I stumbled across this one for $119.99. Being $20 more, I was a little hesitant, but a quick Amazon search revealed that the consumables for the Samsung were much less.So, I bought it, brought it home, and within about 3 minutes, had it unpacked, plugged in, and linked up with the wireless network. It's not a speed demon, nor does it have auto duplex, but it does print fast enough (19ppm) and prints come out looking sharp. And it's very quiet - it sits in power save mode until you print, then it immediately goes back into power save mode as soon as you're done. Sure, that slows down the first page out time to about 5 seconds, but that's a small price to pay when quiet = being able to easily concentrate.The next day the "depot" store had it on sale for $69.99, so I showed them my receipt and got a $50 credit to my card for the difference. I would have bought it here on Amazon, but I needed it that day to do some work from home.Anyways, if you're in the market for a small laser printer, this one (so far) is a sure bet!

Delivery from "Gizmo's for life" not amazon, was excellent. The printer works fine. It was just what I wanted. An inexpensive laser (not inkjet) printer, which would prevent me from having to deal with expensive inkjet cartridges that dry out when I'm gone for a few months.My only complaint is the written instructions. They were poorly written, and the print was so tiny I could barely read it even with glasses on. This would hardly be expensive to do well. I was able to find instructions on line that were better.I haven't put a lot of mileage on this printer, since I only print occasionally, thus my problem with inkjet cartridges, but so far its worked excellently. Also the print quality is as good as I could have hoped.Note, that its a black and white only printer. But that keeps the cost down, significantly. Color is expensive, if you don't really need it, its crazy to pay for it.

Prints fast and easy. I haven't figured out the wireless printing capabilities yet... I'm not a techie, but I don't need that feature anyways. I highly recommend it for mass printing, does a great job, fast and clear.

I have always been an HP guy. I have been using network HP laser printers for over ten years. I was hesitant going outside my comfort level, but made the jump and wouldn't be happier.This Samsung printer works great for my purpose. I run a small business and needed a good printer to handle scanning documents, faxing documents and general printing. This printer has worked flawlessly over the last 6 months and the toner has gone about 1500 pages so far. Scanning is a cinch once you get used to it (PDF format). I use it for all my accounts payable and recievables and the contrast and clarity is really good for B&W. I have dumped 35,000 pages worth of paperwork by scanning it all in and keeping only an electronic file system (remember to backup all files for IRS purposes, it costs alot to have data retrieved on a crashed hard drive).It took me about an hour to setup the system for wireless and intalling the drivers on a Windows platform. Which is longer than expected. Just follow the CD instructions. I even configured it to do IP printing when on the go with my laptop (I couldn't figure it out, but had my nephew do it for me). Don't use Samsung's "ask question" section, I've seen posts on there for weeks. Use other sites like "Yahoo Answers" or some of the tech sites.The only thing I would recommend is lightly cleaning the upper rollers with a diluted solution of water and rubbing alchohol once every 1,000 pages if you scan like I do. Besides that you can't go wrong with this printer if you are just a little bit computer savyyyy....

Nice speed & print quality, but that doesn't do much good when it jams constantly. I can no longer operate this without having the back of the printer open (so I can catch the print as it spits out). If I leave it closed, the paper always jams up. This sucks, because every time I do a print job, I have to stand up to be in position to catch it. Obviously this is no good for collating multiple page printouts, which I often have to do by hand. This is a simple design flaw that should have been corrected before the machine was brought to market, and one that renders the printer an annoyance rather than an asset.

Was very impressed by Amazon efficiency in delivering my order in record time, but am extremely disturbed by Samsung's way of operating. The toner refill did not work on my Samsung printer, and Samsung tells me that they no longer sell this printer ML1660. So why do they continue selling toner refill if they no longer sell the corresponding printer. Being in Africa, I have no way of even getting a refund, and can only give Samsung a bad name. May this serve as a warning to other customers to stay away from Samsung products.

Printer didn't last 2 months. We had a Sumsung laser printer before and it lasted years. We think the printer wasn't sold to us new. Perhaps it was a bad seller, but it wasn't covered under Amazon guarantee so now we have to deal with the Manufacturer which is going to take ages. The toner went grey within 300 pages of printing. VERY disappointed. Don't know if the printer or the seller, but be warned! SAMSUNG ONLY PROVIDES A TRIAL TONER FOR YOU TO GET A FEEL FOR THE PRINTER!!! SO PLEASE FACTOR IN THE COST OF A NEW TONER WHEN BUYING THIS

The short review: This printer sucks.The longer review: One star is really one star too many. This printer sucks because it jams. All. The. Time. You'll spend more time clearing jams than actually printing. Especially if you want to duplex - which in theory, you can because there's a manual feed. But that jams too. Jam, JAm, JAM... that's what this printer does best. If you don't have enough frustration in your life, get this printer. Otherwise, steer clear. And if you're thining it might be cheap paper, it's not. I've tried various quality papers, all with the same result.

I got this printer at another retailer for $49.99! Installed it very quickly (clearing out the space and stringing the wire into the drawer is what took the longest) and started printing right away with no problems. There is a slight delay for the data transfer, but once it starts printing, it is REALLY fast! (It's a bit noisy and rattles like it's about the explode... more on mechanical attributes later...) Even on the "toner saver" setting, which I use by default, small print is crisp and legible. The paper drawer does seem a bit flimsy.However, the paper handling mechanics leave a bit to be desired. I just printed ~60 pages, and I have experienced: 1 paper jam where I had to extract 2 sheets (from the toner area and exit), which were both ruined; 1 instance where 2 sheets were drawn in such that the page printed partially on each sheet; and 1 instance where 2 sheets were drawn in but everything printed on the first sheet. The last issue was only a problem b/c I was doing manual duplex. All three paper handling problems occurred on the printing of the second side in an effort to save paper & space, so it might have to do with the paper curling up a bit on the first pass, or possibly static build-up & cling. So I guess I might just have to print 1-sided... :(

I have manuscripts I need to print and my huge Canon PIXMA was eating me alive in ink, even for simple black and white printing. I found this here at Amazon, read the reviews, and then did a quick internet search and found it online at Office Depot for $49.99. WOW ! Purchased it online, drove a block down the street and picked it up. Twenty minutes later, I have it connected to my desktop and my laptop (via wireless) and can print all my documents from my office or anywhere in my house. Excellent quality, speedy, and when I run out of ink I can always just buy another printer if it's too expensive to refill this one. In fact, I may go down and buy a 2nd one while they're on sale ! I had no problem sitting this up to wireless - and believe me, I am a total hardware/software idiot. The CD that comes with the printer walks you step by step through the process. LOVE IT !

I talked to Samsung's online support about replacement drums for this printer, when I did not find them easily available on the internet. They said the drum must be replaced by their technician. Translation: once the drum wears out, throw the printer away. However the lifespan of the drum is supposed to be 30,000 pages, according to Samsung. Chances are, it will last somewhat longer, unless they have a "replace drum" light, like Brother lasers have, that mean the printer will simply stop working after a while.There is toner to refill it yourself, but you have to reset the chip. The toner company I usually buy from recommends a new cartridge after reusing one three times, but new cartridges seem to come only filled, from what I've been able to find, and those are pricey enough that I would rather buy a new printer at $60 than buy the cartridge. I see a compatible cartridge for just a dollar less than you would pay for a new printer.So these are some considerations when buying this printer. It would probably be an excellent deal for someone who isn't printing huge quantities. Or it might do for you to buy three or four of these printers at this price.

This printer performs well for a no thrills wireless printer for small business & has adecent scanner for Mac if you also order the scanner driver.However, avoid ordering this product on expedited shipping which at time wasfastest way to ship printer (since has changed on site). Expedited shipping isan absolute joke & has no means to track where the package is at. I ended up waitingalmost 11 days after order to get my printer. Never again will I order in this fashion& if I can't use FedEx for shipping which is the best-especially for tracking, I willorder someplace else rather than Amazon.

I loved this printer. I got this for $33 open box on Amazon. Toner is brand new those. I had it for very good deal. It look like I will have fun with this durable horse power printer. I can print all my graduate works.Only thing annoying are: manual feeding for two sides (no jam, which is lots better than brother series) and always have to check per print for toner saver mode and paper size selection. For some reason, it has tendency to auto A1 side- long office side paper. the speed is very fast and smooth.I am happy to get such good bargain. I would say I think I could go with at least 1200pg with some images with the original toner. I will order two new one to stock up for its life. I won't recommend generic toner and filler because the quality is bad and so is quick last. I do not find it is a bargain from previous experience.I am using this with both MAC and PC. Very easy set up with its CDs. I don't mind to wire in to print.Fully recommended for grad students and small business office use...

This is an amazing printer. Really fast to first page and then fast from then on. Very easy to install the network attachment mode. I still crack up at the two sided printing, when the paper almost gets out then goes back in to print the other side. I do not see any degradation in the quality of print when in "toner save" mode. All in all I would reccoment this printer.

So far, am pretty happy with the printer, except for the wifi issues. Basically, the wifi connection seems to stop working after a couple hours, which pretty much defeats the point of having a wireless printer. Then, I had the insight that since my printer was physically located close to my wireless router, I could use the printer's physical ethernet connection, thereby bypassing it's wireless connection and use my wireless router's wireless functionality to give me a wireless printing capability.By the way, I recommend you either assign a static IP to your printer or create a DHCP reservation on your router for your printer.If you have a wireless router and it's physically located close to your printer, an easy fix is to attach an ethernet cable from your wireless router to your printer. Turn your printer off, then back on and leave the cable connected permanently.The printer will automatically switch from using it's wireless connection to using it's ethernet connection. The good part is that since you have a wireless router, you can still continue to print to your printer wirelessly.Also, I have my printer configured to use static IP, partly because I think I noticed the installation program seemed to hardcode the IP address of the printer, even with DHCP. if you still have issues with printing to your printer reliably you may want to try using a static IP address for your printer as well.By the way, if you use DHCP, in your wireless router, create a DHCP reservation for your printer, so that it always gets assigned the same IP address by your router. This will save you heartache later on.

First, DO NOT DOWN LOAD ANY FIRMWARE UPDATE from Samsung. They prompted me to install a firmware upgrade for a "bug" in the printer copier. There has been no issue with it. All has been working fine. Until after the install. I have been buying off-label (Green Apple brand) toner/drum cartridges which save me a bit of money (not alot). I have 2 for backup. Immediately after installing the firmware upgrade, the copier will not recognize the toner. Saying "Incompatible toner cartridge installed". And will not work. I called customer service, and first they told me to uninstall the software. I said it can not be done, as it is a firmware, installed in the copier. They transferred me to a technician, who said that it has to be done by an authorized service center, and they said that since my copier is under warranty, I can bring it to a local service center to have the older firmware version 1 reinstalled. I called the facility, and asked them TWICE if this is a service they can do. They confirmed they can. I brought the printer over and left it for 4 days. Then called them. They said I'll need to buy a new toner with Samsung brand. I said that the whole reason why I brought it over is to have the firmware reinstalled, and they had confirmed it can be done. Then today, a Samsung representative called me, saying that they will not allow the old firmware to be installed, as they specifically said in the manual that only Samsung toners can be used in these machines. To me, this is scandalous, to tell owners to install an update to fix a "bug" when the bug is simply the fact that they want to BLOCK you from using non-Samsung toner and drums. This is not a warranty issue with defective equipment, but an issue that SAMSUNG does not want people to use aftermarket or non-samsung products. BAD,BAD,BAD,BAD..... I will not recommend any SAMSUNG products to anyone!

Finally after fiddling around for nearly 4 hours, I have figured out how to hook this darn thing up. Im not completely computer illiterate, but Im not a whiz either. This is what I did:1. Hook up the printer to your router using an ethernet cable. Wait 1 minute and then hold the triangle button for 5-8 seconds. A page will print out with an IP address assigned by your router.2. Connect the printer using the usb cable to your computer.3. Open a browser, and type in the IP address from the page you printer. A synchthru page will appear.4. Click on network settings, and the wireless. Use the wizard to connect to your wireless router.5. Download the most up to date drivers from apple here: [..]6. When I got to this step, the printer was showing as not connected, so I went into system settings and clicked on print and scan and deleted the instance of the printer, and then added it again. Viola it worked!Side note: the anyweb print software on the samsung website didn't work, and I can't get the smartpanel stuff to work either.So far, the printer works great. I will update when I've had it longer. It is ridiculous that it was SOOOO difficult to get to work wirelessly. The printer worked great connected with a USB out of the box.

I purchased this printer as a main network printer for a non-profit last June. I have used it outside to print receipts for a benefit auction in dusty conditions, it has been moved from location to location and it has printed a lot of forms and documents. I have used it for envelopes, card stock (80#), and regular paper. I have never encountered a problem with the printer. Furthermore, the toner cartridges print numerous pages. The response time is fast, the print time is fast and it worked well on a network. I have been a loyal HP customer for fifteen years. This is the best printer I have owned. My old HP 1006 laser printer while reliable used many times more toner than this does. I would highly recommend this printer for an inexpensive monochrome laser printer.

The expensive Samsung cartridges (2) I purchased did not work. I have two cartridges that do not work and a printer where I can not print anything untill I secure working Samsung print cartridges. Very poor choice in product (Samsung). It is taking too long to have them returned and my money refunded. I am Very dissatisfied with this purchase and the product.I do not recommend to anyone.

As a former director of technology support for a university, I have probably purchased a hundred or more printers in the last two decades. Almost all of those printers were made by HP, but when it came time to purchase a new laser printer for our home office, I couldn't see paying the price premium and decided to take a chance on the Samsung. It's been a year, and that bet has paid off handsomely. The printer is fast and efficient. I set it up with a static IP on our home network, and the wireless connection has worked flawlessly (I think a static IP is good medicine for any wireless printer). Came back to Amazon to look for a toner cartridge and just wanted to spend a minute saying I like this product.

I bought this printer for basic printing. I use it to print kids coloring pages off the internet, print receipts, and a few people in our family use it for reports. I also use it to print out Pathfinder RPG character sheets because I am a dork.It works good. I should have gone ahead with a two sided printer so I don't have to flip paper for certain projects, but that is no fault of this printer.It did grab about 4 pages at once when I was trying to print, but I was using paper older then 6 years that was slightly off colored. I am not sure I can blame the printer for that one.Set up was easy. Wireless is great because I can now place it where my little kids don't insert stuff into it.

We bought several Samsung Printers, including one of these at the same time. ALL OF THEM HAVE BROKEN DOWN WITHIN 4 MONTHS!. Spend 3 hours twice on chat or telephone w service before they allowed us to return it. I returned it and put a piece of tape over the USB connector. They returned it later saying it was fixed. When I got it back, it made loud noises and still printed blank pages. On top of that, the tape on the USB port was still there. They didn't even hook the printer up. I then tried to contact them and ended up with the same chat line who wanted to go over all of the troubleshooting items again. STAY AWAY. Sadly, this was bad enough that I've decided not to shop at Micro Center again unless they drop the Samsung line completely. Never had trouble like this before.

I actually use all the functions of a multifunction printer fairly often. I fax resumes/CVs, scan pictures for older relatives and print everything from small brochures to documents to coupons on different types of paper. This printer is completely capable of all these things. (Note: I don't print pictures so I can't answer to that.)Overall, I'm just enjoying the setup way more than with my last two inkjet printers (HP & Canon). You can keep one kind of paper in the paper tray and manually feed specialty papers through the slot above the paper tray. I found that rather useful. I really enjoy having a feeder instead of just a flatbed scanner. As someone who cannot handle crooked scans or prints, it just makes things so much easier to have a simple, straight guided feed instead of trying not to touch whatever is sitting on the scanner bed before you get the lid shut.The only thing you have to remember (if this is your first laser printer) is to take the cartridge out and gently tilt it side-to-side to evenly coat the cartridge. The toner cartridge is very easy to take out and replace.I really like this machine. I'm glad I made the decision to go monochrome for my home-use printer.

Ужасно

Have several other samsung devices, including TV, BluRay, previous printer for years which was great, so figured I would get another Samsung printer and went with this model thinking in today's wireless world, it would make printing easier.It does not.The WiFi feature has never worked properly, so I connected to my wireless router (Linksys first, then Apple Time Capsule) and that at least allows network printing, but the printer spontaneously disappears from each router and requires a series of rebooting, unplugging, general F'ing with it to get it to work at all again.Very disappointed, and would happily trade in for non-wireless model.

At the beginning, it stuck in the machine. I have to print test before it works. Currently, It seems okay so far. I just printed only a couple of pages. Hope it keeps going well.

Easy setup and decent print quality, but the printer is way too loud. I've been using it for two days as an invoice printer on my desk and I have already had customers comment on how loud and obnoxious it sounds when printing. I thought the days of printers that sounded like vacuum cleaners were behind us...it's going home where it will rarely be used and I'll have to find something else.As an aside, the small footprint advertised is very misleading...opening the output and paper trays doubles the size of the printer.

I have been using this printer for about three months and I am very pleased with its performance. I was fed up with my Cannon inkjet printer and was looking for low cost laser printer. I still use my multifunction cannon printer for scanning and fax, but I use my Samsung for printing. The print is quick and crisp. Its very compact. I got it for $40 on sale and its worth every penny. The only issue I had was setting up WiFi. It was quite cumbersome and I end up using it with the usb cable.

This is the worst printer I have ever had. Since the first day I have been using it (it's been almost a month) I constantly get paper jams. I followed each and every step on 'how to avoid paper jams' manuals on every single website: not fill the tray to capacity, use high quality office paper, make sure to clear the papers that stuck before, align the papers on the tray properly, even try to avoid double-sided printing. Not working. I get paper jams approximately one in every three printing jobs. I had to clean paper jams so often that I can now remove all the components of this printer and assemble back again in under 10 seconds. If you want to beat my record, buy this machine. You ll make a lot of practice.

Open the box and check your cartridge before you store it away if you aren't needing it right away. I noticed my print jobs are horrible and toner is not lasting even 2 weeks. Looked up my order and sure enough Amazon has sent me the cheapo ChromaCast brand toner instead of this one. Too late for a return now. Lesson well learned about buying toner from Amazon. Just be sure to watch your brands!! ChromaCast is NOT one you want to end up with. Money wasted but lesson learned. :(

1) The reviews saying this thing is a toner hog are correct. The quality is good but if you run any volume at all look elsewhere for less expensive solutions. 2) The setup on this wireless is easy to disrupt, and if you run clean ups or deep deletes to clear out the files you will find the wireless function broken. You need to run the CD again, set up the printer again using the second of the two processes (not the one for first time setup) to relocate and reinstall the software connection. You may also have to do this again after any Samsung updates to the printer's firmware. Don't junk that CD! And as most everyone is aware now, IE9 has issues printing off a website. This printer is not the solution to that general problem, but is not the cause of that problem either.
