I bought this a few months ago and finally decided to leave a review.Pro:1. Fast warm up and fast printing compare to my inkjet Canon MP9802. Text printing is clear.3. Wireless printingCons:1. Image printing is Ok, a little dark.2. Setting Wireless takes a little bit of effort to figure out how.Well, for this price, I should not expect this laser printer to print images as awesome as my inkjet and that is to be expected. I have a desktop and laptop (both windows 7) and used both methods to setup the driver for the printer. For my laptop, I used the cd that comes with the printer and it prints just fine. For my desktop, I let windows 7 detected the driver and installed it for me.Today, I decided to set up my wireless printing. I lost my cd so I went to Samsung website and downloaded "Easy Wireless Setup" from here: [...]. The software is so small that it only took just a few seconds to install. After the installation, I went to "Start->All Programs->Samsung Printer" and clicked on "Samsung Easy Wireless Setup". To set up wireless, you have to hook this printer to your computer via usb cable. Here are the steps that I followed:1. Hook the printer to my computer via USB cable2. "Start Samsung Easy Wireless Setup"3. Make sure the printer is on4. Keep clicking next until you see the screen "Select the Wireless Setup Method". Select "Using a UBS cable". (The other option didn't work for me)5. On the "Select Wireless Network" screen, it did not pick up my wireless network. (Could be the way my husband set it up). Anyhow, I selected the button at the bottom of the screen that says "Advanced Setting".6. Enter your wireless network name, setting, and password info and clicked "Next".7. Continue to click next until you get to screen where it tries to connect to your printer8. After successfully detecting your printer, you should see the screen that indicates that the wireless network setup is complete and successful. CHECK ON THE BOX that says "Check if you want to connect printer to your PC with the current settings." on this screen.9. Click "Finish". You can disconnect the usb cable and start testing your wireless printing.I first installed the wireless on my laptop and had to follow the same steps above for my desktop. After the installation on my laptop, I thought that now the wireless printer is setup, I could choose using wireless network to setup wireless printing on my desktop but it failed even though it sees my printer. The error did tell me that the option I selected doesn't work with my printer or something like that. So, I ended up hauling this laser printer to my desktop, hooked up the usb cable and set up the wireless printing. Oh, well, a little pain but it doesn't bug me. The installation went well after I connected the usb cable. :)Also, at some point, it will ask you to set up the password to access the printer. That's about it. I'm not sure why so many people having problems with setting up wireless printing.

Both of these cartridges lasted about 100 pages, then started to leave vertical streaks, dark areas all over the page and ghost printing (text repeated down the page.) Basically, these are unusable. If one was bad, I'd say that it was just a single failure, but both are junk. I'm tossing them and going elsewhere.

About 1/4 through the refill, the quality of the prints declined dramatically. This may be due to the drum being part of the cartridge itself versus an issue with the refill quality. Nevertheless, I had to order a Samsung brand toner cartridge to resolve the poor print quality issue. Yes, I tried tipping the toner cartridge back and forth, as well as checking the roller. While the customer service is stellar and the directions were perfect (thanks to the other reviewers) I cannot recommend this product.

I opened this thing and ink poured out all over my brand new jeans, my carpet, and the paperwork I had on my desk. This ink is terrible to scrub out. Not happy at all. If I could give it zero stars, I would.

After reading mixed reviews I decided to buy the 2 pack hoping one of the 2 would work. The first one lasted a couple of months and worked for about 300 copies before lines started appearing on the pages. I'm now on the second one (less than 100 copies). If this lasts for the 1000-1500 copies it should I will consider buying from them again. If not, I'll go back to buying from Samsung.

Works great. This was my second time using it. Make sure to cut the top of the tube cap before squeezing it as there is no pre-drilled hole. Also, if not careful, it can be messy. I recommend this product.

Other than making a small scratch on the green roller thing, this refill toner works perfect. This is a much better alternative than buying an entire new cartridge. Just make sure you install the new chip which is included and it works great.

Shipping was prompt and fast. The item arrived damaged, but JL Toner was very responsive and shipped out a replacement toner refill at no cost within a day or two of my contacting them about it.

The refill process is easy, but can be somewhat messy. Look up "D104s toner refill" on any popular video site to find video tutorials. You will need a sharp knife - I used a box cutter - and that's about it. Everything else is included with the toner. Keep in mind when you are prying off the cartridge end cap you are actually fracturing whatever's left of the 3 plastic rivets, so yes, be gentle, but firm and make sure you trim off as much of the rivets as possible to make it go easier.

I recommend a pair of disposable gloves and a clean work surface, but that's up to you.

Also, don't squeeze too hard on the toner bottle when decanting into the cartridge, the seal on the bottle isn't very good and it will squirt through the cap. This may have been my fault though. At any rate, just gently squeeze and tap the toner bottle until it's all through the nozzle. It'll take an extra minute or two, but you'll get all the toner into the cartridge instead of all over your work surface.

Print quality is excellent, certainly better than the OEM toner that came with my printer.

Well, the directions, but the reviews gave good directions. I won't gig it for that. Shipped out fast. I drilled out 3 plastic rivets, popped off the end, slid in a new electronic chip, drilled holes in the old rivets, popped off the plug in the toner bin, dumped the old toner, refilled, and used three screws I had laying around to reattach the end. Maybe it would stay on without the screws. Make sure the chip does not slide out while you are snapping the end cap back on,or it will interfere. First test page, text and photo, came out beautiful. I'll update if I have any problems.

If the Samsung ML-2165W Wireless Monochrome Printer was a coffee from Starbucks, it would be a;"short dark and black, please".For the minimalist, the Samsung ML-2165W is certainly a winner with its compact, fold-up design. The box for this printer has all the basics needed to open it up and begin printing on your own paper in minutes. The paper tray comfortably holds 100 pages and the output tray above is strong enough to hold up just that amount.Before we get too far into this review, you must know that the Samsung ML-2165W does not have automatic duplex printing capabilities.Configuring the Samsung ML-2165W to act as a WIFI network printer does require a little bit of work to make computers not running Microsoft Windows 7 use it. First, the WPS button did work with my Sony VAIO laptop which is running Windows 7. Now, the network configuration of the printer required me to plug in the supplied USB 2.0 cable to an old Windows XP desktop computer and run a utility found on the included support CD. After following all the steps, the desktop computer was ready to print in about 20 minutes because Windows XP required me to reboot.The print quality of this laser printer was very good with not a single defect on any of my pages. The mechanical parts inside operate so smoothly that I had trouble hearing it while watching television.To test the capabilities of the Samsung ML-2165W printer two different print jobs were chosen using Adobe PDF files. The illustrations in each of these digital books were finely detailed and should give any modern printer a workout. For each print mode the time started and stopped was carefully recorded. Graphics quality was set to Best or 1200x1200 and a Sony VAIO laptop running Microsoft Windows 7 Professional was used as the print job creator.First, a 52 page digital book about exotic weapons was chosen which had a total file size of 5,558 Kb.USB 2.0 direct print: 3 minutes 15 seconds; Calculated PPM = 16Linksys WRT54G WIFI print: 4 minutes 30 seconds; Calculated PPM = 11.5Second, a 68 page digital book about the Matchlock Musketeer was chosen which had a total file size of 66,315 Kb.USB 2.0 direct print; 5 minutes 56 seconds; Calculated PPM = 11.4Linksys WRT54G WIFI print: 8 minutes 12 seconds; Calculated PPM = 8.3The point of these tests was to compare WIFI printing versus direct USB printing. We clearly see that this printer did slow down for WIFI jobs using the same document. After printing out over 200 pages for this testing, the Samsung printing software is showing that I have less than 1/4 toner left. Which is a little surprising given that my old HP LaserJet 1100 can print over 500 pages of PDF files and still have plenty of toner for the next 500!In conclusion, the Samsung ML-2165W WIFI printer has a slick space saving design and delivers very good quality prints. The toner cartridge should have more capacity. The paper tray was a little small and the lack of duplex capability stole some of the shine that this had coming out of the box. Yet for casual printing at home or as a backup printer for a college student this could fill a basic need. After looking at all these facts, we can only conclude that this Samsung printer really is nothing more than just, "short dark and black".

I bought a few of these and they all work just as good as the original. The is no difference in quality between paying $80 for a genuine Samsung vs one of the V4INK generics besides a much thicker wallet. I will discontinue purchasing Samsung refills and stock up on these bad boys before they decide to stop making this model for my printer.

This is my original 5 star review, see below for sad update:I've had this Samsung 2165W monochrome wireless printer for just a few hours and here's what I know so far. (I'll post updates later when I have more experience.)First of all, the price ($59 plus shipping) was very appealing, and delivery was super fast to my house (in Virginia) from Amazon's supplier.There's not much in the box, and not much to assemble. You just pull off a couple of tape and packing pieces and snap in the exit tray. The toner cartridge is already installed--you just take it out, shake it up, and put it back in. No tabs to pull, etc.The machine itself weighs almost nothing, and takes up about the space of a shoe box. Once installed, it needs only a power cord to serve all the computers in the house. It sleeps silently, and once awakened to print, it does so quickly, and with no more noise than any other printer. Then it goes back to sleep at once. So it's a very unobtrusive house guest.Set up and installation is fairly easy. I am a clever DIY'er, and not afraid to wade into something technical; but I'm no IT tech by a long shot. But if you, like me, are happy to follow instructions and try something else if they don't work, you'll have little trouble. Here's how it went for me. YMMV.I was expecting to have to connect the printer to my wireless router with an ethernet cable. But the printer doesn't even have a port for one. (Maybe that's what wireless means? Like I said, I'm no IT wiz!) I was also expecting it to provide it's own connection to my network (also a silly assumption, I guess.) Instead, for each computer in the family (we have 4) I had to connect it to the printer with the supplied USB cable, and insert the installation disc in the drive. I have a Cisco Valet wireless router; but it behaved oddly when I asked it to install the printer, so I gave up using the Cisco Connect program at all. The printer didn't mind a bit. Once connected to a computer (which has already been connected to the home LAN) the Samsung just found the correct network by itself. It did ask me to supply the network security key (whatever that is), but Cisco gave that info up to me easily enough on its third screen. From that point, it was just a matter of pressing all the NEXT buttons until the printer was up and running. At some point it tells you to remove the USB cable, and then the software finishes doing its wireless thing--with an occasional request for you to push the NEXT button, or make some simple and obvious decision. (I denied all requests to let it connect to the internet for registration and automatic updates, and resisted all other inducements to let Samsung spy on me. I'm not paranoid, just ornery!)The installation software hung up and crashed once on three of the four computers, and always in a different place. But starting from scratch the second time always worked. So, in the end, I'd have call the installation a fairly easy gig.Print quality is laser excellent, and now that anyone in the family can print from his or her laptop anywhere in the house--for $59 bucks--I'm as happy as a pig in mud.I'll let you know how reliable it turns out to be, how many copies you get out of the toner, etc. But right now, it's looking like a darn good deal to me!Update and down-rate: This thing has lost contact with all our computers, and no amount of rebooting or reinstalling will get it on-line. It is now only a hardwired printer for one laptop. Down-rating to 2 stars.

This unit is replacing a 7 year old Samsung ML-2551N, which needed a new fuser and toner/drum, which cost more than this printer did new. My trusty old 2551N is better made and more substantial, but this new model has some things going for it in it's favor. The time to print is less than 5 seconds, rivaling that of units with LED print engines. The smaller footprint (about 2/3 the size of the 2551N) is nice, and the power-savings features are better implemented. The new drivers provide more comprehensive information about the printer settings and status. Things I don't like: LCD doesn't have a back-light, the plastic of the case seems a little cheaper than my old unit, and the documentation is HTML, not PDF, and difficult to navigate. For example, I had to revert to the web to find the default admin password to change the printer settings -- I searched the manual for 5 minutes before giving up. 2 notes for those of you upgrading from an older Samsung printer: 1) uninstall and remove old print drivers and SyncThru first before installing the new ones, and 2) you may need to disable your local PC-based firewall prior to letting the setup search your network for your new printer (this was necessary on one of my Win7 laptops running Norton Internet Security 2012). The software setup is seamless, although it took a few minutes to become familiar with it, as the UI is very different than the old Samsung Unified Print Driver software that I was previously using. The print quality is excellent on 600 DPI (default), and is amazing on 1200 DPI. I usually leave it in Eco mode to save toner for daily printing. The unit ships with a starter toner/drum and will need to be replaced with a standard one shortly. Great printer for the price -- one of the few non-multifunction units on the market below $500 that does duplex printing out of the box, and does so with ease. I should add that the paper handling of the Samsung's are very good -- at least that's been my experience. I have it on my LAN via RJ45, and have also installed and tested the Android app (Samsung Mobile Print via Google Play), allowing direct printing from the phone -- works very well. I should mention that the newer Samsung's, such as this model, contain a print counter chip in the toner/drum unit. The printer will stop printing when it hits the preset limit, regardless of how much toner is left in the tank. Plus, this will make the use of lower cost 3rd party replacements difficult -- not a deal breaker for me, but important to know nevertheless. Highly recommended.

I also had a problem with the printer not recognizing the chip. I contacted the supplier and they quickly sent a new chip that worked fine. Meanwhile the old chip worked for a while. Eventually you get an "end of life" message and you have to replace the chip. The toner lasts longer than the chips. I have two cartridges, and keep one ready to pop into the printer. Print a test page after filling, then pack it away until you need it.

I already own another monochrome laser printer (a Brother HL-2280DW) which I'm quite happy with. But I saw this one offered with a feature my Brother doesn't have, which is printing from mobile device (iPhones/iPads, in my case...we have several devices in the family). Since we could use a second printer anyway, I got this one.As a printer, it's just fine. The mobile feature, though, is nearly useless. I'll review that feature separately since probably most people don't care about that.Printer review: this compares reasonably favorably with my Brother printer -- similar quality output, similarly fast, similarly quiet, and significantly easier to set up! We use it wirelessly, and the initial wireless setup took about half the time and a quarter the headscratching that the Brother did. And adding it to all the various computers in the house was totally painless. There's one big annoying feature, though...the paper drawer isn't big enough to hold standard 8x11 paper while *closed*. It seems to be part of the design that when loaded, the drawer sticks out. (Unlike in the product photo that shows the drawer tucked in). This is unattractive and also leads to detritus falling into the paper drawer. You also have to fold plastic guide/tray thingie out to print (as shown in the product photo)...it's flimsy and I worry it will break. I like on my Brother printer that when set up and ready to print, all the moving pieces are "tucked in". All in all, I'd say I'd probably get the Brother again before this for that reason. But these are minor details, they are otherwise quite similar.iPhone print review: This is NOT AIRPRINT. I was confused, but now I understand: AirPrint is ONLY offered on HP printers. (WHY? Arg.) If you want to print from "native" iPhone apps you need AirPrint. For example, if you are in Safari and try to print from there, you can not print to this printer. To use this printer, you need to download an app from Samsung and print from there. That allows you to select a photo from your library or the camera; or you can enter a web page URL in a browser in the app; or you can choose the clipboard (text you've copied from elsewhere); or if you use Google Docs/Google Drive you can select from your google documents. If you want to print anything else, you need to get a screen shot of it and print that as a photo. I had been really looking forward to this feature, but as it turns out, I've used it about three times in the two months we've had the printer, because it's just not convenient for 95% of my mobile printing needs.I blame the uselessness of the mobile printing more on Apple than on Samsung, because Apple has locked in a deal with HP and AirPrint. But no matter whose "fault" it is, if you have an iDevice, you won't find the Samsung printer to offer you what you want from a mobile printer.

I tried to use this as a wireless printer. After it goes to sleep it is unavailable to print until you power it off and on again. Every time you want to print you need to do this. I wasted huge amounts of time on tech support trying to get this to work. They had me bring it to a repair shop 30 minutes away. Who in turn said it was fixed. Then I brought it home, and it did exactly the same thing. I called support again and after many transfers I finally got to talk to L3 support which admitted it was a known issue and they were working on it. Years later there is still no fix for that "bug." I ended up just hooking it up via usb and gave up on it as a wireless printer.I have recently also had issues with the replacement (high yield) toner for this printer.I bought this toner last year and it printed 750 pages successfully, but now each print has 3 lines repeating on each page. The drum on the toner has visible lines which I can't clean off.Tech support wasted an hour of my time in the slowest chat session I have ever experienced. Literally it was 5 minutes between each response and then the response was "please wait" or some broken English asking me to do again what I was just asked to do 15 minutes earlier. Infuriating.Finally, after an hour of run around, they agree to replace my toner cartridge. Only they need some of my information in order to complete the "form". Then they proceed to ask me for my information one piece at a time, with a 2 minute gap between requests.Seriously? WTF.First name...(2 minutes)...last name...(2 minutes)...phone number... 20 minutes later they finally gathered the info that should have taken 30 seconds and the chat ended.An hour later I get an email saying that they can't replace the toner because its out of warranty. Which is funny, since I told the idiot in chat support when I bought the toner in the second line of our chat.My reply email was less than nice. Today I get a call from support also telling me that they won't support their defective products because its out of warranty. I ask them why the hell they wasted an hour of my time when they new from the beginning that the toner was out of warrenty. Flummoxed, they transfer me to "executive support". Who then asks me to explain everything all over again. God these people suck at their job. Of course they can't do anything either despite their executive status.Pray you never have a problem with your printer which requires Samsung tech support.I would gladly pay more for a black and white laser printer that actually worked. Buying ink and toner is another thing that drives me crazy. I remember simpler days when you could put any ink in your printer. Today they come with microchips, satellite tracking and retina scans to make sure its the actual name brand toner and not some after market one that is both high quality and affordable. These printer companies are worse then Amway.I swear on the life of everyone I hold dear, that I will never speak kindly nor buy anything made by Samsung again. ever. not even if they cure cancer.

Price was great. Instructions were awful (and no, that was not a surprise, but still...) I have a Samsung printer and it was held together with small plastic friction rivets. Once I figured out that I could just pry those off with a utility knife, I was able to dump the old toner and refill via a small cap on the end. I am glad I did not have to use a "hole making tool".

Print quality is definitely not the same. For general office use and an occasional spreadsheet to share with someone else it is absolutely fine. But it does not give the same vivid black as my old OEM cartridge. I would not use this for something I was giving to customers or my board of directors!

I had heard about cheap laser printers, but was skeptical. I finally got fed up with the ink jet crap of very expensive cartridges that seem to plug up often.I read up on Lasers and decided on the Sammy. I avoided HP because the company is in trouble and didn't want to get stuck with an unsupported printer..The instruction book was good, but tiny print hard to read. There is a copy on install disk, easier to read. DON'T MESS WITH THE WIFI BUTTON UNTIL YOU READ INSTRUCTIONS OR DO INSTALL PROGRAM...The WIFI was icing on the cake... Notes on WIFI.The sammy comes with a AD-hoc connection (no security)just a plug in go set up. I did not use it....NOTE: VERY IMPORTANT, be sure your installation computer is attached to the network by a wifi connection. DO NOT use a computer that is wired (RJ45) to the router unless you are not using PRINTER wifi connection..Note: be sure to write down the net security set up from your router to avoid errors before you start. Also NEVER touch the wifi button on the printer during installation process. The install program takes care of that...My home net is WPA2 personal using tkip+AES. So I installed the wifi using the neat disk installation program.1. plug in the usb cable and power, make sure the usb cable is tight in the printer end. The usb plug on printer is a bit loose fitting...2. Turn on printer with paper loaded (do not touch the wifi button).3.When install program comes up, choose the wifi option to install. DO NOT REMOVE THE USB CABLE UNTIL INSTALL PROGRAM TELLS YOU.4. The install program brings up available networks. Choose your home net. Do not mess with the AD-hoc networks if they are shown.5. next install screen is to enter your net passwords. Be very careful of the cap keys...6. the next screen shows the net values picked up from your router. Jot them down for future ref. If all is well keep going.7. the program will scan for the printer.8. when printer is found carefully follow directions to remove the usb cable...9. Install rest of program (driver and control programs).After installation, when you power up printer the wifi blue light will blink and when connected turn on solid. No need to touch the WIFI button...The printer works great. It makes a gentle hum and spits out the completed page before you know it.. What a change from the bang, bang zip,zip slow screeching print of an ink jet. A color laser is only about 100 bucks more. Yeah the cartridges are expensive (~~ 128), but they don't dry up.The sammy goes into power saving mode when not in use. The print defaults in light mode to save the cartridge. The control program of printer can change it to a darker mode. The replacement cartridge runs about 50-60 bucks. From what I have read, best avoid off brands...Windows 7 loves the printer. I had to update the printer list on older win 7 system (button on printer install screen). My win vista worked ok but not as friendly as win7. I have an old XP machine used for taxes. I don't see any problems. I think I will down load the driver from Samsung. I don't want the control programs on that computer.Love my little Sammy, if it runs well, will be looking at a Sammy color in a few months and dump the ink jet junk.Update: Dec 4, 11..The printer is working perfectly. The networking is very reliable. It is so nice to be able to print without having to share a printer on another computer, (major pain in the *ss).It is fast and very quite. Most ink jets sound like a corn harvester...I do a lot of printing and there is still a lot of cartridge left. Samsung controller program works nice.I don't miss color a bit. The printouts are very clear. It prints beautiful black and white photosfrom color snaps... I use the inkjets for color when necessary (if the darn ink cartridge is not dried up)... Inkjets make good paper weights and money burners; that is about all they are good for....

Length:: 0:47 Mins[Above is a small video clip of this printer in action]I got this printer for the amazing price of just $49.99 and it absolutely rocks! Being that I don't print often, I was sick of having clogged and dried up ink cartridges in my inkjet printer. They cost a lot of money to replace and it just wasn't worth the hassle. With this Samsung laser printer, I don't have that problem anymore. Toner particles don't dry like ink over time so I can leave this printer turned off for an extended period of time knowing that when I do have to use it, the toner display bar wouldn't mysteriously be cut in half.QualityNot much to say on print quality. If you've ever seen a printout from a laser printer before, then this printer is right up that alley. Nothing special, nothing fancy. It just gets the job done. Personally, these cheap laser printers are great for printing out reports and other things that contain mainly of words and tables. Of course, it will also print pictures and whatnot but don't expect it to rival that of black inkjet printers. For that, you'll need a much more expensive laser printer than this one. For the price I paid for this, it's worth every penny.MaintenanceLaser printers don't usually require a lot of maintenance like inkjet printers unless you have a defective model of some sort. These laser printers can print thousands and thousands of pages before anything needs changing. The best part is, a lot of problems you experience from a laser printer can be remedied by simply changing the toner cartridge. However, this is not true for every printer model. Besides keeping the unit clean of dust and whatnot, I'm just going to let this printer sit on my desk until I need to use it. The bad part to this is I will have no idea whether or not the printer I purchased is defective or not. By rarely using the printer, it won't undergo a "stress-test" of sort. Other users complain that their printer go bad after only a couple of weeks. That's a good thing in this retrospect because they at least now know to return it or to fix it. As far as changing toner cartridges go, it's as simple as lifting the printer cover up, removing the old cartridge by pulling on the handle and inserting the new one in until it snaps into place.I'm reading users having difficulty setting up this printer on their wireless network. I hardly can believe this because the process is so simple!1. Run the setup program you've downloaded from Samsung's website or from the included CD. Rather than selecting Install Now, you're going to click the Wireless Setting and Installation link instead.2. Your printer will then begin picking up all the wireless connections it can find and display it back to you. Your home wireless network should be in this list!3. Once you have selected your wireless network, it will then ask for the wireless network key.4. Next, you'll confirm the settings. By default, the printer will use DHCP to obtain an IP address for itself. This is OK in most situations. If you want to, you can assign the printer its own dedicated TCP/IP settings by clicking on the Change TCP/IP button in this window.5. Next, you'll confirm the printer connection.6. In the software installation screen, be sure to install the printer driver. You can optionally choose to install the Smart Panel application as well.For such a low price, I am absolutely satisfied with this laser printer. The printer is so small, you'll hardly even notice it. I am being dead serious. My desk is already small as it is and so this printer was perfect bundled next to my laptop. For such a low price, I was even shocked to learn that it had wireless capabilities. I now no longer have to power up my laptop first (which would be plugged in via USB) before other computers in my house can use it! They can all instantly print to it.

The printer works fine and I got it for $40 at frys on sale, but the consummables are a disgusting ripoff. :( To refill the toner cartridge I had to buy a special tool that burns a hole in the cartridge that you then cover with a piece of tape. Then I bought the toner and a reset chip for $19 on ebay.It's the "high capacity" toner kit which is only 95 grams, so it's about half the size of the bottle I used to get for my old brother, but with the chip it costs 4 times as much for a refill for the brother did. The regular refill bottle for the Samsung has only 65 grams in it, so don't even go there. There is so little in it they must use a coke spoon when measuring it out.The only purpose of chip is to stop the printer from printing anymore until you replace the reset chip! The the toner cartridge is so small it won't even take the full 95 gram bottle, so you have to refill it more frequently. And since you had to burn a hole in the cartridge and cover it with tape so you can refill it, you end up spilling a little of the black gold each time you fill it, just adding insult to injury.So I went and bought another of the brother printers I had before that I used to hate so much (for other reasons), just because the consummables are affordable. That's how desparate things have become. It got to the point where I didn't want to print anything with the Samsung because the cost of the refills hurt so bad. I spent $42 for 2 refills and they were gone before I knew it, and that's all I paid for the printer on sale.With the brother once I got the cheap plastic reset gears on ebay for it I could just dump in toner. I just ordered 550g of toner for it on ebay for $21, so I'm going back to it and will save the Samsung for a backup only.I should mention that you can get the refilled toner cartridges for slightly more than the cost of the refill kit, so that's probably the way to go. Just make sure they come with the reset chip or you'll have to buy it separately. It's a nice printer and they sell it for cheap on sale at Frys because they know they'll get it all back and more on the consumables. This is why the billionaires have billions and billions and all you've got is....an empty toner cartridge.

I was delighted to receive this printer to use and review. Our first decisions was where to put it as we didn't really NEED a new printer, but I have been wanting one in my sewing room for awhile so I could print out color templates for my machine embroidery. Finally got it set up and it works great and the color printing in non-eco mode is the best I've ever seen come out of the printer.Why 4 stars? I hate that all instructions for electronic items anymore are reduced down to little photos that don't really explain much nor can you tell what and why they are doing something. When you look at the 'manual' on your computer they stick to the photos and next to no dialogue. What is with that lately? I'm not stupid and if I can READ about something I can figure it out. Also, even though every photo of the printer shows the paper drawer closed, neither I nor my husband can figure out how to close it. It sticks out about 2" and the printer still can print the paper. I couldn't see anything in the manual to say that the paper drawer doesn't go all the way in and the pictures show it closed, so what is going on? Help and comments appreciated on this one. As I said we were able to print out regular letter size paper with no trouble. The paper drawer has a plastic piece in the middle of it that looks like we are supposed to push it down (according to the graphic impressed into the tray), but I'm scared it will break off. What is it for and why? All the mechanical components of the paper drawers that are for adjusting for paper size are plastic that are difficult to move and if you do manage to jiggle them, feel like they are about to snap off. That could just be me because I have arthritis in my hands, but I have never had trouble adjusting these types things before or felt like I was about to break something.Edited to add:Duh forgot two points. Our family is still a bit in the dark ages. We have no cell phones or a product to test the capability of the printer to print without being connected to the mobile device so that wasn't something I could review.Just saw the price of the toners. Yikes! You might as well throw the printer out and buy a whole new one when you factor in the cost of replacing all of them. Glad this with be the printer that will get minimal use. If it were our 'work' laser printer we would have to be replacing at least the black toner every couple months at $50+ a pop since the toners that came with the printer will only do about 1500 sheets if I understood the box correctly. Hopefully by the time I need more toner; there will be some generic ones out.

Got my 365W from Newegg as there's currently a 3-5 week delay when ordering from Amazon, unless you use a 3rd-party reseller. Shipping was as quick as Amazon Prime though!Installation was fairly easy on my home network, which has a combination of Windows 7 and XP machines, as well as an iMac. If you've ever installed a Windows 7 networked printer on a Mac, you probably know it can be a little technical, having to choose the right protocol on the Mac (lpd:) and entering your IP address. The on-disc manual for the Samsung 365W has very detailed step-by-step instructions for connecting the Mac to the printer wirelessly, which made it an easy process. The alternative way to set it up is to hook the printer to each computer one at a time via the included USB cable, installing all the drivers and wireless settings that way, then disconnecting and moving on to the next computer. I did this only on my main Windows 7 machine, but all the other installs were done wirelessly. The Windows installations were very straightforward using the 'add printer' utility. Make sure you've got the disk with the 365W drivers handy. If you're setting this up as a "shared" printer through another computer, then you don't even need the disk after the first install - the drivers will install automatically.My kids printed off a few test pages, which they claimed were for school projects. Color graphics appear vibrant and sharp. Even photographic images looked decent. We have expensive "enterprise" color laser printers at my work, and while those are real speed demons for large print jobs, the colors are not nearly as good as what I'm seeing on the little Samsung. Also my work printers needed professional calibration just to get business graphics to look good, while everything I'm getting from the Samsung looks great. There must be something to Samsung's new polymerized ink, and not just marketing hype!Plain black text also looks good, as you'd expect from a laser printer, but the Samsung does not print nearly as fast as my trusty old (and cheap) Brother. The Brother just won't die! I hope the Samsung proves to be as durable.One minor complaint: with letter size paper in the tray, the tray sticks out a good 2-1/2" from the body of the printer. I felt the product images were a little misleading, always showing the tray fully installed and flush with the printer. I thought I was doing something wrong, then realized the tray is extendable to accommodate different paper sizes. I didn't expect letter size paper to cause it to stick out like that.I haven't yet tried the Android or iPhone printing apps that are available for the Samsung. Nice to know they are available though.

I did a tremendous amount of research to find the perfect, reasonably priced, color wireless printer.I had owned Samsung printers in the past. They're not known for being super easy to set up, but I figured I've gone down that road before, and I would figure it out. True to form, it was a pain to get the wireless going (particularly on a Mac, where you must run virtualized Windows to actually use Samsung's software to correctly set the printer's configurations, if you want to set up wireless properly).Well, that headache past, I printed on my merry way. But this story does not end well...Three months in, the original toner cartridges are down near zero. I don't print a lot, probably pretty typical for your average consumer use. In fact I prefer to deal with digital documents, and I don't have a job that requires me to print anything especially. Then, suddenly "paper jam" messages were appearing any time I wanted to print.I went through every conceivable process to verify it wasn't a problem at my end. To keep this from turning into a long sob story, suffice to say that Samsung wasted hours upon hours of my time running me through an endless labyrinth of customer support promises and cancellations, ultimately ending in my realization that they have either no intention or no ability to service these printers. It's the worst customer service experience I've had with any product, ever.Keep in mind that toner cartridges are also not readily available for this printer. You cannot currently even buy the full complement of cartridges in a bundle here (it has to be done partly through third parties). Good luck trying to find them on the Samsung site itself -- nowhere to be found.Overall, owning this printer has been an absolutely terrible experience. While there are some aspects of the printer that are good, these appear to have been inherited from older models. There has been no visible innovation in this line for years. The company does not stand behind its product, and now I'm stuck with a dead printer.I strongly recommend you purchase a printer from another company.

I have had this printer for about a year and a half. I print infrequently, and I often had trouble with inkjet cartridges/print heads getting so gummed up that I could never get them working again. This was on sale at the time, so I thought I would make the switch to a laser printer. (When you consider the cost of inkjet ink, the toner cartridge is not such a bad deal.)I have a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, and I initially did not have any issues whatsoever getting the printer set up and/or printing to it with my computer over my home wireless network. I left it on all the time, and printed a large job maybe every couple of weeks (other than the test pages my cats are fond of printing), and it was fine. However, a couple of months ago, the wireless capability just stopped working. I spent several hours on the Samsung website and going through printer setup, and I got exactly nothing. I did not try to contact technical support because it had been more than a year since my purchase and I had not bought any extended protection plan. I can still print using the USB cable, and since I don't want to buy a new printer or pay for repairs, I'll make do.The other thing I don't like is that, since there is no screen on this printer, when the red status indicator light comes on, you have no idea what the problem is. Sometimes it just seems to have too many printed sheets on top, but I cannot figure out what the number of pages is that makes it turn red. Sometimes it'll come on with 5 sheets, and sometimes it'll let me print 25. When I remove the paper from the top, it'll start printing again. This is inconvenient when I am printing a large document (usually I print 300-600 pages at once), as I have to babysit the printer throughout the entire process.Printout quality is fine for my purposes; I pretty much only ever use your standard, inexpensive copy paper from a big box office supply store. If it's been a truly long time since printing, I will shake up the toner cartridge to evenly distribute the toner before printing. I am usually able to get more than the advertised number of pages out of a printer cartridge, although pretty much all I ever print is double-spaced text.

I have been a long time HP printer customer but was disappointed by the last two HP printers I have had. I have been fairly impressed by several Samsung products I purchased recently, so I was very eager to get the chance to try out this new Samsung Color Laserjet printer. First off, I am tired of ALL inkjet printers, because the cartridges are two expensive, and even when you do not use the printers, the cartridges go bad and have to be replaced. I have been wanting to move to a home laserjet for some time to allow me to print documents with some color without the expense of the inkjet cartridges.After giving this printer a workout, I must say that I can rate it as "acceptable", but nothing more. My first difficulty in getting it set up was that the paper tray is poorly designed. It serves as the bottom part of the printer. I found it very difficult to get the paper tray back in, since it does not have well designed "guides". I had to fumble with it for five minutes to get the tray back in. Hopefully with time I will learn the "recipe" to get the paper tray to slide back in properly. Second issue with the paper tray is that it has very limited capacity. It holds only a very thin stack of paper.The next issue I had was that it took me three hours to get the printer installed. In the end, I found that the Samsung supplied USB cable was faulty, and the cable was causing the installation problems. When I replaced with one of my own cables, the installation was done in under 5 minutes. My question for Samsung . . . why include a junk cable? Either provide a quality cable, or dont include one. This bum cable cost me an afternoon.With the printer up and running I did some test prints. I found the overall color on photographs to be subpar by color laserjet standards. The similarly priced HP laserjets provide better color on photographs.The printer does an acceptable job for text, and text with charts and graphs, but somewhat less than acceptable on photographs (yes, I understand laserjets are not made for photos, but I have had other laserjets with better photo capability).So, overall this printer is OK for a cheap color laserjet, but keep your expectations in check if you order it.UPDATE: 4/5/2013I have had this printer now for several months. I have used it very lightly . . . maybe once or twice a week. I was shocked to see that already it is telling me to buy a new black toner cartridge. It is looking like this printer is going to be more expensive than even an inkjet. The toner cartridge cost is terrible.

The Pros: reasonable toner costs, good print quality, wireless and network functionality work reasonably wellThe Cons: jams often on manual duplexing, need to reboot printer to recover from jams, annoying toner replacement messages, sometimes fails to wake from standby and must be unplugged.On the whole this has been a disappointing printer. I thought it would be ok to get a cheaper printer that doesn't do duplex printing, because I can often get paper printed on one side to reuse. However, the SCX-4623FW doesn't deal well with reused paper (no matter how pristine) and, in fact, if you try to manually duplex jobs just printed on brand new paper, it still tends to jam frequently.To make matters worse, when it does jam, after you clear the jam, you have to cycle the power to recover from the jam and lose the print job and start all of over.To make matters even worse, if you want to use the manual feed to print (or manually duplex), you have to feed one page at a time. And it beeps incessantly after each page to let you know it is "out of paper" for the manual feed (even though the manual feed doesn't accept more than one page).When the page count on your toner cartridge reaches a certain page count, it gives you a "replace toner" notice. The good news is that it is possible to continue until you actually begin to have streaking problems. The bad news is that it is not intuitive. Your choice of responses to "replace toner" is "Continue: yes/no." I have trouble remembering whether yes ("continue") means continue with toner replacement or continue printing and ignore the warning. And if I recall correctly, it won't print until you make the correct selection.I was able to set the wireless functions up to work fine. However, on the downside, I hadn't realized that when I connected to my work VPN, the printer would not be available (since I am no longer effectively on the local network). This is not an issue specific to this printer, but something to be aware of it you are hoping to use the network printing functions.Also, sometimes, even though the lights are on, it doesn't respond to print jobs or input on the buttons (including the power button). I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to work.

I didn't use any of the software on the CD.I downloaded everything from the product support page from Samsung. I think this is better than using the bundled CD, because who knows how old that stuff is.This includes:A firmware update for the printerEasy Wifi Setup softwareSamsung Universal Printer DriverEasy Printer ManagerNow, I ended up NOT using the "Universal Print Driver".The steps I used:1) Connected the primary computer to the printer via USB.2) Ran the Firmware Update (just because--might not be entirely necessary but what the heck)3) Ran the "Samsung Easy Wifi Setup" to get the Wifi going. This can also be done in the Easy Printer Manager I believe--not sure why the have both. Anyway you use this via USB.Please note, this gets your printer on your network--but does NOT set up your computer with the printer.I did NOT use the Samsung Universal Printer Driver software . . instead, I just used the "add a printer" function in Windows 7. It had the "2160 series" listed. Worked like a champ.I did the same thing on two other computers--a Windows Vista and a Windows 8 computer. I installed no software per-se on those computers--just used the "add a printer" functionality and it found the printer on my network and added it without too much trouble. I like that better than adding software to each computer.Note: the "2160 series" was not listed on at least two of my computers . . had to do "windows update" from the dialog in question to get the 2160 series to show . . updating this list takes a while. But it did show up. I've printed from all three printers without issue.Good luck. Out of the box, I'm pleased with the apparent quality of the product. And for under 70 bucks this really is a low risk item. I'll update my review if it is not as durable as I expect it to be.

After watching the YouTube video on how to open the cartridge - refilling it using the toner was super easy. Like other reviews have posted I just popped the cap w/ the chip right back on w/o screws and it snapped shut. After turning my printer back w/ the refilled cartridge the printer recognized the it no problems and my PC's smart panel said ink was full. Printed a test page perfectly.

So far it's doing well. I will update the review after I run through a few more print jobs.

I bought this printer as a low-cost solution to not having a laser printer at home. Yes, the printer does print and when it does, it prints clearly and beautifully, but you have to put in the weeks of agonizing troubleshooting to get it to work. I've working in IT since Y2K (Year 2000) and it blows my mind to think manufacturers believe we're so stupid that we have to have over-simplified directions to install a printer. In fact, they're so simple, they're useless. The Samsung manual simply says, "plug it in, run setup, you're done".No... you and I both know it's not that easy.How to know you're a Samsung Printer Masochist:A) You bought one.B) You plugged it in.C) You thought you didn't need the CD containing old drivers, so you threw it out and downloaded the updated drivers.D) The updated drivers didn't work, so you sifted through old Spaghetti and spoiled meat to find the CD.E) You actually tried to install the software, but got an error saying a newer version is already installed.Like I said, the printer prints, but only when it's connected over USB. Wifi? Forget it. Ain't happenin'. They say to hold the WPS button down on the printer (during setup) for 2-4 seconds until you see a flashing Blue light. Then, when prompted, to do the same on your WPS-enabled router. Wow, they finally see each other! Wait. False alarm. The printer is on the network now, but the setup program can't add it to the computer.This printer magically worked wirelessly one day, can't explain why and after several months, stopped working wirelessly. The printer sits in a very clean, air-conditioned area away from EMI and has its own power supply. There aren't any cordless phones nearby to interfere with it either. It's just that the software is really THAT BAD.Way to go Samsung, your software put your hardware in the lowest class possible. If you want to know how bad software can ruin your company, see exhibit A) Creative Labs.

I bought this printer from Best Buy, but wanted to do a public service by reporting it here as well. This printer can be easily bricked if you insert the USB Type B (Male Insert) in the wrong direction. I think the standard USB B jacks can be easily inserted the opposite direction as well whereas if you use the Samsung USB supplied USB cable it seems to go one direction because it has a smaller inner hole. In any case the result is a printer that fails to power on anymore.To further add to this review I had an issue setting up the WiFi as well. I followed the setup to completion on the first go (with the USB connected the right direction), and the WiFi did not connect once I removed the USB and completed the setup procedure. It was on the second try at re-installing the drivers and re-doing the setup procedure that I inserted (without resistance) the USB Type B in the wrong direction resulting in the power failure. In any case there should be a better hardware protection (I believe my cable is standard whereas the Samsung one is non-standard and probably cheaped out on the plastic insert by making it narrow.). To add to the hardware protection, there should have been also a electronic portection as well. The fact that something as simple as this can take out the entire printer is ludicourous. I know quite a bit about Electronics and this should of been one of the many Engineering design considerations ... I guess we get what we pay for :( .Also the paper tray is done in a hap-hazard fashion which sticks out. Makes moving around the printer, and reloading more difficult. That added with the all plastic design means that peices will snap in time and will not last long.My recommendation is to get a Brother Printer, especially if you want monochrome because Brother Toners are large, reliable, and refillable. Brother printers are fast, dependable, and last forever when it comes to the drum and general lifetime. I regretted going Samsung the second I ordered it ... sheesh worst printer ever!

Easy to refill and so inexpensive. Print quality looks fine. Just cut off the plastic rivets heads with a utility knife, pop cover off, pry the cap off, dump it out, fill it, recap, slide in new chip and press the cover back onto the rivet shafts. At least that's how two of my cartridges are. Takes less than 5 min.

New chip resets the capacity to full after refill but am not so sure if volume of toner supplied actually filled the cartridge because there's so much more empty space in the cavity after the process. Just didn't seem to fill the cartridge, it looked like it could have used another bottle or two. But even if you had to buy 2 or 3 of these, still a great buy!

Works well so far. I didn't think the screws were necessary so I just put the toner cover back in securely and snapped the end cap (where the chip was installed) back. Where the cartridge sits also will keep the ends in place anyway.

Past cartridge from this supplier was fine but upon removing from the wrapper this one was covered in toner powder and my hands were black just from pulling it out of the bag. The black paper tab pulled out so easily that I suspect it had not been inserted correctly which allowed the toner to leak out in shipping. Cleaned it up as best I could and installed it nonetheless because I was desperate but held my breath waiting for the first copy to come out fearing that it would have damaged my printer. The copies from the printer do look okay so far but I wonder how much of the product was lost inside the black bag it was packed in and if it is going to do any damage to the printer over time. I would have returned the cartridge on the spot it if I hadn't needed it so badly.
