We like our choice in this product. However the monitor is not styled as the ad illustrated it with the silver band down the left side of the monitor. For me this was an important missing feature! And it's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. It is still very attractive even without it. However, more importantly, it's resolution is excellent and the color is as described in the other positive reviews. The glue issue has been resolved. And it's a great value for the money!!

I knew I wanted to purchase a Computer Monitor for Christmas. I didn't really know what I wanted but I came across this Monitor and thought it looked good and it had good reviews. The price was also great at only $175. After getting this product, I couldnt be happier. The image is amazingly clear. The screen is HUGE! I was a little afraid of a huge glare off the screen but there has been no problem with a glare. This monitor is way more than what I thought I was getting. What a great Deal. I will buy from HP again. Stop looking and buy this Monitor. You will not regret this purchase!

Just got this monitor up and running a few hours ago. Thing is absolutely beautiful with deep, rich color that far exceeds the older HP LCD line. The monitor is SUPER thin and can double as a TV with the HDMI port. Stand is sturdier than it appears in the picture, but has no height adjustment (no biggie).Only downside to the whole thing is that there is no mount on the back, although I can really see myself ever bolting this thing to the wall. I'd definitely recommend paying the extra $30-40 to get this one over the LCD line.

I'd be really surprised if what I received was a real new HP cartridge. The quality of the black when printing just isn't there and the contact points on the cartridge looked corroded. I guess I'm the fool for buying the cheapest one I could find on Amazon.

The monitor is great overall but when I dim the screen for night time use, the LED screen starts to flicker much like a CRT monitor. I read about this on wikipedia in the "backlight flicker" article and is due to pulse width modulation. If the brightness is set over 60% there is no detectable flicker.

I have only had this monitor for 16 months. Great performance, beautiful display, crisp picture. It has developed a vertical green line that can not be removed. HP support narrowed it down to a product defect not computer or software related. They are not willing to help their customers in any way once you are out of the 1 year warranty. Many people have had this issue, but HP is not acknowledging a common product defect at this time. I will never buy a HP product again.

prior computer was an iMac G5. current one is an HP Pavilion Elite e9220ymonitor is adequate for the price. wish monitors were cheaper/included anyway but compared to others it's probably a decent value. nothing to write home about but not terriblewhat i didn't like:1. power cord kept disconnecting. had to return it & replacement monitor was fine (but found other user complaints about this). problem is, because of power cord's placement, if you use wired keyboard and mouse, sometimes just moving the wire inadvertently disconnected the power cord and turned the monitor off, as did placement of the on/off switch on the bottom right of the monitor or even moving the monitor over a bit to adjust your view. considering how long power cords/cables have existed. can't understand how they screwed that up.2. speakers are not great. bad bass, and just not enuf sound even jacked up for some videos online. you'll probably want to pay more for external speakers to amp up the sound3. resolution/picture quality not very good compared to my old imac. really surprised at how much worse the picture quality was. using the same background photo for my desktop, it was sharp on the imac and is fuzzy and slightly distorted (noisy) on the HP (as are other picture files stored on photobucket/shutterfly). i'll have to do more tweaking to see if i can improve this at allwhat i liked:1. monitor looks nice and is decently thin.2. appreciate being able to tilt the screen up or down a little (tho that mechanism is a bit stiff)3. considering how absolutely expensive monitors are, this is reasonable.if you love digital photography/videography and really care about picture quality, tho, you'll probably want a better monitor. you're sacrificing much desired picture quality in favor of lower cost. i'm an amateur photog yet i noticed the quality issues, so a more advanced photog would probably be disappointed.

The unit began working early on allowing the option of using the supplied software to optimize the performance of the Widescreen monitor using Windows XP. A quick test of streaming wide screen video was made using a file from Netflix ( after downloading the free Silverlight software from Microsoft ) It works perfectly and the images on screen are wonderful and complete. This is a long way away from a 10 inch or less CRT monitor. ( yeah, I started fooling with computers in 1980 or thereabouts, so I am older than dirt. )

I absolutely love this monitor. It is glossy like others say, but i only recognize it when the screen is off. Otherwise the reflection is non-existent. The color punches out at you and is crystal clear. I do not us the speaker so I cannot attest to that, but easy controls. Windows 7 automatically recognized it and set it to the proper resolution so there was not need to tinker. I really wouldn't have done anything different other than getting the on that's 2" larger. But for the price I couldn't pass up on it!

Was saddened to find this same product at a much lower price just days after ordering it from Amazon. The comparison prices listed were a joke.. I could have purchased it at Wal Mart for the same price and not had to pay the upgraded shipping... I guess I was just in a hurry, but will not make the same mistake again.As for the quality of the product, it is ok.. nothing spectacular, but ok. I have a 24" which is much sharper with better color and contrast, but as a gift, I guess this was just ok...

If you're looking for a small monitor that doesn't take up a lot of space, but has HD resolution, this is a great choice. I'm not fond of the ugly, over-bright glowing on/off button, but aside from that, there's little to complain about. Picture is clean, colors are good, and the price is right. No height adjustment, but if you're short on vertical space like me, that's not an issue. I don't expect such adjustability from a budget monitor. The picture quality exceeds what I would expect from something this inexpensive, which more than makes up for the lack of adjustment ability. Put some books under it, or put it on your computer (like I did), if height is a problem for you.

I searched a long time for a high resolution monitor that had maximal adjustability for height, tilt, swivel and rotate. This one rose to the top of the list.I got it almost 3 years ago and it works a charm. No problems at all.Note, I have not tried anything sophisticated on it. I have never tried to balance colors as a photographer or publisher might need to.I don't like the adjustments, they are diabolical, just like every other monitor I ever used. What's up with that???

I had been looking for a monitor to go with my new Mac mini. The Apple monitors I had been looking at were way too expensive. The HP 2020i has been the perfect solution and looks similar to some of the Apple monitors I had seen but at a much lower price. I also like the no glare screen of this monitor. I am very pleased with my choice and would highly recommend it.

At first I was a bit surprised to see subtle blotchy patches of color and graininess. Like where the color is transitioning from one shade to another--instead of it being an unnoticeable gradient, there almost visible lines where one shade ended and another began (like in people's faces on videos). I tried to get used to it and I told myself that it was probably because the monitor resolution was so good that it makes lower quality source material actually look worse. I had also verified that the driver was installed properly and I was using the higher quality white cable (not the blue one). DVD's sometimes showed up nice, some pictures occasionally looked great. While some things like youtube or streaming content from netflix was almost unwatchable compared to my old tube monitor--but I assumed that was normal.However, then I noticed that even high resolution 1080 photographs and wallpapers had the same color blotches and graininess which can't be so easily explained away. Plus Windows XP itself had grainy patterns like in program menu items. So I shopped around and got another monitor. Best Buy (of all the rip-off places) actually had great deal on a 23" Acer for $170 and I hooked it up and did a side by side comparison.The Acer had no grain and no color blotches even in low quality source material like youtube (it was just normally blurrier as you would expect with lower resolution streaming video). But all around by comparison the Acer was crisp and perfect as I was used to on my old tube monitor--and for less money.So anyway, maybe I just had a bad one of these HP monitors and it wasn't explicitly horrible all the time--sometimes I thought I had sort of fixed the graininess by slightly adjusting the contrast, but not really. The low quality image was noticeable most of the time in the monitor I had, so I wouldn't recommend it.As far as better brands, I recommend (if possible) going to a office supply store or somewhere that has lots of them hooked up to actual computers side by side so that you can see what you're getting. Just reading reviews doesn't quite cut it for this sort of purchase since its something that you're going to stare at for hours on end inches away from your face.

Out of the box the speakers began making popping noises when there was no audio input. When music was played it would stop, I tried several things to make it stop, including replacing audio cords, checking connections, adjusting the volume, trying a different computer, etc. none of which helped the problem. Hp support is a joke, and was very unhelpful. It was promptly returned for a refund through amazon.

The monitor was sufficiently OK for the money until this morning when it wouldn't display anything but black. No menus, no video, just audio, no matter what input (DVI, VGA, or HDMI). Tried several computers and video cameras to no avail; the monitor is plugged into an APC UPS, so a power surge is unlikely, especially since all the other electronic equipment connected to that same backup system are still fine. I contacted customer support and they told me that they'll send out a replacement monitor. Let's see how long that one will last and who'll pick up the cost for shipping the broken one back for recycling. From a video quality perspective, a Cinema display handily beats this monitor, but that's like saying that a BMW outperforms a Ford Fiesta. It's a fine display for casual use when it is working.

For those having difficulty with the dreaded "Sticker Residue" I suggest first trying Mike G's technique of using the sticker itself. If that doesn't work, try carefully applying/swiping a small amount of Rubbing Alcohol with a Q-Tip and quickly clean with a soft clean cloth. I had a very small amount of residue on the top left side. The Rubbing Alcohol took it right off without any damage to the gloss finish - GOOD LUCK!Aside from that, I'm quite pleased with this monitor. Setup was a breeze, websites look great, as do movies.

I have had this monitor for about 18 months and it has been abused, moved across the country, and used heavily during that time. It is a gorgeous display that gets the job done. My only complaint is that I wish the border was smaller so the gap for dual screens was less noticable.

I ordered two of these cartridges in what the vendor claimed was "retail packaging." They came in a single shipping box which was in perfect condition. The box for one of the two cartridges was severely damaged (torn open and apparently water damaged) -- hardly retail packaging. There also was a blue HP sticker that held the box closed, sort of. This damage did NOT happen in shipping to me because the other cartridge box was in perfect condition. I can only conclude that whoever stocked my shipment made a conscious decision to include a questionable (refurbished/damaged?) item into my shipment along with the other good cartridge. The cartridge from the damaged box appears to work ok, thus far. I really can't return these cartridges because they are in use in a critical care medical facility that is so broke they couldn't afford to buy their own cartridges.I will not order from this source again.

Overall this is a great desktop monitor however.......Regarding someone else's review I must say monitor reflection and glare is important now with our high-end, high-def monitors since we are paying an arm and a leg for best quality on the whole and not simply to see ourselves in the reflection.Having said that, this is a basic monitor whose only flaw is extreme refelection.4/5 stars!

I am planning to build a new PC in first q next year (2010). I've been shopping for monitor since november... God, it's so painfull. Yes, this HP W2338h and it's brother 2509m are the best on the LCD market. I spent hours in Staples to see how it is for the eyes - amazing. And let me tell you people, if you looking for really cool and rich image quality forget -- FORGET about the cheezy mate screens - even if it has 10.000.000:1 CR - it means nothing - the colors are dead compare to any glossy screen. GLOSSY - is what makes the image stunning, and if some of you are concerned about reflections and stuff, come on... get vertical blinds for God's sake. Obviously I am not going to buy all the components for my new PC in one shot. I am just like any other "hi tech freak", waiting for "gulftown" or "thuban" to hit the shelves, then we'll see...What stops me from buying this monitor or 2509m...It's not LED yet. I don't care about LCD or LED much, only because LED is newer - no, but what I do care about is: 1) LED would definetely look better, because it'd be slimer. 2) it'd be energy efficient and less hazardous. and the last thing which I don't really care about - it'd obviously have a crazy contrast ratio and 2ms response time.So, if you need a stunning image quality right now and you don't care much about energy consumption (this monitor by the way and 2509m are not energy star qualified), then go for it. Because it looks like that this is the best on today's market at the affordable price range.Thanks very much for reading my review.

I will have to say, this is a great monitor. I bought this monitor to go with my new HP-150t desktop computer. I had an older sony LCD monitor which I liked but it was not an HD monitor and my new computer had an HD output so I thought I would go with a matching monitor. My Sony monitor was the older 4x3 aspect ratio and the HP 2159 is the new 16x9 aspect ratio. At first, I didn't like the wide-screen thing when I visited websites as many of them are not set up for wide screen display. It took me a few weeks to get used to it, but now I love the extra space I get on my desktop. This monitor is real plug and play. It has not given me any problems, the display is fantastic. I wish I had sprung for the desktop with a TV tuner but I figured I did not want to sit in front of a PC monitor to watch HD TV and I have a 46-inch HD TV downstairs so I opted to save a few bucks and not bother with the tuner.This monitor has built in speakers but my desktop has external speakers and a subwoofer so I prefer that sound to small speakers in the monitor itself.I would buy this monitor again. It is just a great monitor.

This monitor is a great value. The matte finish is attractive and the screen colors really stand out. I do have to mention that my new monitor is ruined after I removed the identifying sticker at the top of the monitor. I have to agree with S. Francis' comment on this issue and I quote him here, "The glue HP used is so strong that it's left behind when you peel the sticker off. So far I have tried duct tape, WD-40 and Goo Gone and the glue is still there". I particularly liked that he mentioned the quality of the glue was used to build roads. Anyway, if you don't mind a messy finish after removing the sticker then you will be okay. The monitor is highly recommended.

I originally preferred a Dell monitor for my new (late 2009) Mac Mini. However, it went off sale so I found the HP 2009m. I could not be happier.The display is beautiful and bright. I never thought I would like a glossy screen, but I have no problems and the colors on the screen really pop. The glossy black finish around the monitor and the aluminum-looking pedestal are reminiscent of an Apple monitor so it fits in pretty good with current Apple styling.The speakers may not be the highest quality, but with a bit of equalization in iTunes they sound fine to me and I am happy with them. However, if you are an audiophile you won't like them. The volume on the monitor is a little strange (as are all the controls) but I simply leave it at the highest setting and then use the Mac's volume controls.All the documentation I read said the monitor only included a VGA cable. I was prepared to buy a DVI to connect to the mini-DVI adapter included with the Mac Mini. However, to my surprise a regular DVI cable was included. It's listed on the box and all the packaging information so I assume mine was not a fluke and they all include both a VGA and DVI cable.I would happily recommend this monitor to anyone, especially if you are buying a Mac Mini.

I bought this monitor after reading a lot of reviews. I hook it up to my MacBook Pro, and it's gorgeous. I am in no way tech savvy (which is why I'm a Mac person), and it was really easy to hook up. My MacBook Pro actually came with a DVI connector or whatever, so I didn't have to buy anything else. Someone mentioned speakers in the monitor, and I never noticed that if they exist. (again, not tech savvy) I put my laptop in the keyboard drawer of my computer and threaded the wires through the back, so it looks like a sleek desktop now. I used a USB hub so that I only have to plug in one USB cord when I want to go from laptop to desktop. It does kind of suck that the MacBook has to be plugged in for the external displays to work. The biggest issue I have with this is it seems like a lot of heat is constantly coming from the laptop. I try to unplug mine when I'm not using it so it cools down.I am having one major issue that no one else has mentioned, so maybe it's something I'm doing wrong. I don't have a really heavy, sturdy desk, but it's not a piece of crap either. Well, this monitor, i guess because of the tilt feature or something, kind of jiggles when I type. It's like it's reacting to the impact of just a little movement on the top of my desk. I would guess this doesnt happen if your desk is really heavy, but it's really annoying. I have never had any issues with anything else on my desk moving AT ALL from me typing or moving around on it- not even things that are much, much smaller than the monitor. Maybe there's some way for me to tighten it or something. It's not the stand itself that's moving- just the screen.Aside from that, I love this monitor. It is highly reflective, but that's just the con side of a glossy screen- great, sharp graphics with a glare. I dont have any direct light on it, so it hasnt been a problem for me. Since I'm having the "jiggle" issue, I am considering mounting the screen to the wall.

I've had this monitor for about 7 months and I love it. I'm a student and use this as an adjunct display w/ my laptop primarily for going over PowerPoint lectures, reading articles, and surfing the web.The monitor is bright and crisp, has zero dead pixels, and the widescreen format comes in handy when I have multiple windows open or when I just want to read a document in super large font to give my eyes a break. The 1600x900 native resolution is not the highest among widescreen monitors out there, but I think it strikes a good balance by giving me the extra space I need without forcing me to squint really heard to read text.As others have said, the built-in speakers aren't great: they have really limited low freq range as you can expect with speakers of this size. Mid and higher ranges sound good to me. One of the reasons I bought this monitor was because I have limited desk space and having built-in speakers was a selling point. This monitor has really met that need for me. I haven't really had any problems with it being too quiet; these speakers can actually get decently loud without distortion.Setup is easy, on-screen menus are straightforward.
