Well, these are 'the' pair to get, and you understand why as soon as you put them on. A good test is to put them on someone with the switch on OFF without music, and throw the switch to 'ON' and watch their faces.
I work in a very noisy office, and these are not too bulky, and work really fantastic at lowering the noise level, I very often use them without any music at all in fact -- but some low level music makes the noise cancellation even better and near /perfect/. Only downside is that it can get a bit hot after a few hours.
Battery last for weeks, there's a neat place in the case to carry a spare too. Oh, and there's some little room in the case for an mp3 player as well. I bought a cheapo AGPtek 06 that is small and flat, and fits in the case with the headphones.

So - yes the noise cancelling works, and the sound is good quality.
BUT -- they made me feel nauseous.
Turns out this is well known. There are medical studies available online. If you have a sensitive inner ear (and it appears I do from my experience) the noise cancelling technology can make you feel sick. Every time I put them on I felt an odd an mildly unpleasant sensation, which went away when turning off the noise cancelling function. I thought I was going mad until I looked it up.
So buy from Amazon, test them and keep the box in case you need to send them back!

Unfortunately it is now out of the 30 day warrantee, so it looks like I'm out of luck.
I won't be replacing them with another set. I'll be looking at another pair of noise canceling headphones next.

Better than the Beats Studio .
I bought the Beats Studio about 5 months ago. They sounded good but they added a lot of clumsy noise in the top three volume bars. Felt like all the music was just being thrown at you at once without proper clarity. and I use my beats for work out and at work only in 5 months the head band had broken and I fixed it using a tape and my wife is using them. they are soo expensive and not reliable at all. But just today I bought these Bose QC 25 headphones and they are a class apart. They produce crystal clear music with precision to each and every note. Even at high volumes you can hear every note very clearly.
And the best part is the LFE channel. I tried the dolby 7.1 channel test (video in youtube) on both the Beats studio and the Bose QC25 and guess what.....the Beats headphones could not even produce the LFE channel sounds at all where as the QC 25 totally nailed those effects. The 10.2 channel effects tests also sounded awesome. I can listen to my music and not hear any noise from where I am (usually a subway or a commuter train). I can listen to the most subtle instrument played and enjoy my music. QC25 is very reliable and sturdy, just to check them i tried to twist the hadback almoy 90 degrees and nothing happened. they are very light weight, i use for 4-5 hours at work and i do not feel i have something on my head.
The only reason I bought Beats instead of Bose QC15 earlier was because I am a bass lover and the QC15s are not the best for bass. But the QC25 totally conquered that area too! The bass these produce is quite amazing. I am off to return my Beats Studio headphones! The Bose QC25 headphones are too good to be true! Definitely another masterpiece from Bose!

These are my favorite possession I have ever owned. I haven't owned any other Bose headphones, so I can't comment on comparison between different Bose products, but if you are deciding what headphones to get in general, these are well WELL worth the money. Whenever I go on long car rides when I am not the driver and so can listen to music in this, I am upset when we get to the destination and I have to stop listening. Hearing music in these headphones is honestly one of the most pleasurable experiences of my life. Everything sounds so vivid clear, and every time I come across a song that I haven't heard through these headphones before (since I've only had them for a year and I have a huge music library, that still happens decently often) I am stunned by all the new qualities of the song I've never noticed before, even occasionally entire instruments or effects I've missed until now. Amazing.

I have been a life long audiophile and luckily for me I have always had careers where I could indulge my interest. So when I am using a graphic art program at the office a good pair of headphones are worth their weight in gold. The Bose QuietComfort is most certainly a good pair of headphones with many outstanding features. It's compact folding design reduces the size of the durable hard shell case making it the perfect size to be tucked away in a briefcase or messenger bag. The sound quality is superb, of course, and the noise cancellation does a nice job filtering out quite a few annoying background sounds while letting you still be able to hear a ringing phone. The only nitpick I have is that the plug can be easily partially detached from the headphone causing a mono sound effect, but this is a small complaint. Although these headphones were calibrated to use with an android device, meaning the inline switch can control the volume, the QuietComfort can be used with ANY and ALL devices but you will have to adjust the volume through the device itself; the inline switch will not work. If you are like me, most of your listening pleasure is stored on a mobile phone or tablet. A good pair of headphones can make any high quality MP3 file sound rich and lush, and the Bose QuietComfort is certainly a good pair of headphones by far. Greatly recommended.

Having owned other noise canceling headphones, the Bose Quiet Comfort noise canceling headphones just are still a step above the rest of the pack in terms of the level of noise cancelled. On the downside, they are a bit primitive in terms of the features offered by other brands. This means no wireless bluetooth, no advanced control of audio selection; just your basic on/off and volume control with the Bose. But if it is superior noise canceling you want, this the only real current choice to buy.

LOVE them. It will not stop you from hearing your husband snore, but it was great on my flight to Germany. When I took them off to goto the bathroom I was amazed how LOUD the airplane seemed (or really was). I have small ears, but I do need to adjust them every so often to not feel any pressure on my ears from the headphones. Husband has the same ones in black and he loves them as well. Get them. They are expensive, but no other brand can compare in my humble opinion. We had Sony before and they were not as good as far as the noise cancelling goes. So as a woman without technical blah blah, I would, in the end say, get them they even look cute. lol

Believe it or not, I accidentally ordered these when I placed my smartphone in my pocket. Someone the one touch/click button was pressed. By the time I cancelled the order, it was too late
That being said, I use headphones everyday. It's been my $20 pair from Sony sold at Walmart for years. These Bose headphones are several hundred dollars more expensive, but the sound quality is about the same.
The noise cancellation is amazing though. I was in a room listening to the Bose headphones for about thirty minutes. I didn't know my wife has been pounding on the locked door to come in.

The QC25 is Bose' best noise cancelling headphone to date. As someone who has been using Bose QC headphones daily for 3+ years now, I think I can give this a reasonably educated review. I have owned QC15 for about 3 years now, and have owned QC20 (in-ear headphones) since they came out. My musical tastes are varied: everything from Yiruma to Taylor Swift to Childish Gambino to Zedd. I listen at my desk at home, in the office, and on public transportation

I purchased these primarily for use while shopping in big box stores to cut down on the noise pollution. They definitely do the job.
I have only used the noise cancelling feature so far and these headphones block all of the background noise and most of the loud piped in music.
I'm guessing that while listening to music, even at a low volume in addition to the noise cancelling - all of the outside noise would be blocked.
Well worth the money.

great set of headphones but like so many other people, the right headphone stopped working for no reason. this is my second set with the same problem. i did not drop the unit and im very careful with handling it, and mind you i dont often use it. i went online and noticed that this is a very common thing and people have suggested fixing it using things inserted into the headphone speaker. it broke literally 1 week after the warranty wore off this time. note that the same thing happened with a previous model that i bought from amazon except i was charged a restocking fee when i wanted it replaced. This is a recurring problem and it was not professional to do that to the customers.

For the longest time I couldn't bring myself to spend the $300 dollars for these headphones. Because my traveling recently increased for the foreseeable future I finally decided to spend the money. Let me tell you I am kicking myself in the butt for waiting so long. If you travel and can afford them, get them!
The dramatic reduction in plane noise is impressive. I can hear conversations around me more easily where as before, I couldn't hear them at all. When listening to music on my tablet I would have to set the volume to maximum in order to hear anything. With the Bose headphones I set the volume at %50-%65 depending on the plane I am flying.

I travel on a regular basis and these headphones are a definite game changer. I've had the next level down of Bose headphones for a few years and have always been satisfied with their performance. It took a while to pull the trigger on the Q25's but I have to say that it was the best decision I could have ever made. I also own other Bose products and can say that I have never been disappointed. Bose always provides an incredible listening experience and they have come through once again. As far as the battery life, I've had no issues whatsoever. I'm currently on week 3 of flying and have yet to change it out. When needed, there is a convenient slot for a spare battery in the case. The comfort factor is incredible. If you have contemplated purchasing these headphones, do yourself a favor and get them!

This is one thing I had buyer's remorse over right after I purchased them, I thought how could I spend so much just for some headphones. I've purchased actual stereos with speakers that cost less but when I got these I realized, given how much I use my headhphones and how much I hate noise these were actually worth the price. I often use them without even having any music on, when there is noise coming from the apartment next store I put them on with the white noise and they really do an amazing job blocking out the noise so I can focus on reading or working. As for the actual sound of the music it is amazing. I've been going back and re-listening to stuff I haven't heard in a long time just to see what it sounds like with these headphones. They are expensive but for me worth the cost.

I really am sold on most everything Bose that I've bought over the last ten years. I recently got the Bose SoundTrue and love them. I paid substantially more ($290) for the Bose QC25 and loved the comfort, audio sound, and build quality. But for the past month or so, I have to take them off after a half hour or so as the pressure on my eardrum starts to get a bit painful. I know Bose says it really isn't pressure, per se, but I do feel it like some others do. Most people do not have this problem. After I don't use them for the rest of the day, my ears recover. I try the next day and they start the pressure again. Some of the electronics magazines say that is why Bose has a 30 day return policy. My retailer gives me 90 days to return them even if they have been opened. Since I got them, I've read that unless you are really going to use them for what they were designed for (airplanes, trains, office noise) they may be of limited use in your house and might not be worth having if noise-canceling is not a major concern. I thought everything about these were great, but the pressure was just too much. I figure at my age, 68, I don't need anything that might accelerate any hearing loss so I will be returning these before the 90 day limit. My other Bose products (SoundDock, In-The-Ear headphones, and SoundTrue) I would rate tops as is Bose Customer Service. I have found that by adjusting the EQ in iTunes, I can make my SoundTrues, In-Ear, and my Klipsch Status all sound better. I hope others don't have this problem, though some do. These are a 5 star product; but for me I have to give it 4 stars as they just don't work for me.

I use these primarily on the plane and in the home office. It works great for both. Prior to getting the headsets I was always afraid that it would cancel out too much noise making it hard to keep my situational awareness around me. It does just the right job of drowning out the annoying noise and keeping the essential sounds audible. These days on the airplanes and in the airports you don't want to lose a sense of what is happening around you.
Of course I wish that the price was lower but you get what you pay for.

I haven't been this excited about something in a long time. I checked this out on amazon but since they added shipping costs with a week delay but the cost the same everywhere, I drove down the street to my local best buy and picked one up. I work from a home office apartment and am surrounded by so much outside noise (!) that it has been driving me crazy, literally, while I try to concentrate. I couldn't go on but then remembered how the engineers in my work office used these to cancel out the noise around them. I have known this for some time but the cost seemed out of reach. Heck with it I decided whats worth more than my peace of mind? These filter out almost all the underlying lower frequency noise (like air conditioners, pool filters, people talking etc) though you can still hear bits.
The sales rep said it's also good to have some music on low as the ear is trained to hear higher noise frequencies and will be drawn to that and away from the high pitched noise outside. Works like charm and makes the music sound great too. You only need 1 AAA battery for the noise cancellation and then plug cord into laptop, ipod etc. Make sure the connection is tight or you'll only get one side coming through.

I work in a lab where we have alarms going off all the time. I can still hear the alarms but they're significantly muted. In that environment I like to use the noise cancellation without listening to music, so there's no need for the cable, giving me freedom of movement.
When I first put them on I got a little dizzy -- maybe because my inner ear/balance mechanism was confused? But after a short while that problem went away.
I've noticed that it seems to completely block out continuous background noises like fans for example. Otherwise, it just really mutes noises.
I cannot overstate the value of having the extension cord unplug from *both* ends -- I've walked away from my computer before and forgot to take off my headphones and it just unplugs from the headphone side instead of ripping the wire out like on other headphones. These are also the most comfortable headphones I've ever owned -- I can wear them for hours straight. I cannot wear them all day long but I can wear them for about four hours before I feel a need to hear stuff.

First off it sounds good. My shortcomings are the wire is thin and likes to coil up. As a previous Bose buyer I'm sure I will break this one cord soon enough, but at least I can just buy another. The cup around the ears would be nice if they were just a tad bigger. I don't have big ears but older people do tend to have larger ears (hint hint@bose). I don't like the fact I am now kinda stuck buying special cables and to others yes the battery compartment does seem cheap along with the airplane jack. The noise reduction works OK but since you almost need to have it running to have things sound good I hope the batteries last and I can use some rechargeable ones.

The noise cancelling is amazing! It's made my work environment more productive. I also use it for my daily commute and it helps drown out the background noises. They are very light weight and don't hurt or feel too tight and I wear them for 8+ hours. I like that they still work even if the noise cancelling battery dies. The sound is not as good but it still is better than nothing. I ordered some rechargeable AAA batteries since I use them daily.
The only complaint would be that for such an expensive product the materials seem a little cheap. The ear pads squeak when you turn them and the top headband isn't leather it's like a "suede-like" so it's not even suede.

I went into this purchase really not wanting to spend a car payment on headphones... but being an audiophile, I caved in. These bad larrys are awesome. The sound quality is incredible for anything from Katy Perry (yeah, I said it) to The Rolling Stones. Battery life is great. I went through a week of wearing them at work, successfully blocking out any haters (hooray noise cancellation!). Not to mention the fact that I was quite comfortable wearing headphones for 8 hours straight every day. The ear cushions are made out of the same leather applications they use in those supercars. Those are all pretty strong "pros" for buying the QC25s. For what it's worth, the only con I can think of is that you get that "headband" indent in your hair. It's just kind of inconvenient, but clearly outweighed by the other awesome qualities.
TL;DR they're expensive but totally worth it.

I love these headphones! They provide great noise cancellation, have over-the-ear comfort padding, and provide a really nice sound. I've been using them every day for the past 6 months and they are still going strong.
I only have reason for giving these 4 stars instead of 5: my head is slightly too small for these headphones. I have a Large hat size, and I feel these would be much more comfortable for those of XL (or a slightly taller head). When fitting comfortably over my ears, the band isn't touching the top of my head, which makes them move around a bit and get out of their comfort zone. This isn't a huge deal, but I wish the band was just a bit smaller so the fit would be more snug.
