The print quality is good, but it uses all colors when printing (even though we only print in 'black'). Then when one of the colors gets low (about once a month or so) it won't print incoming faxes anymore - even though you have plenty of black ink!!! I absolutely dislike this machine and will never purchase another brother product like this one... unless I hit the lottery and feel like blowing all my cash on colored ink that I never see.

This is an okay printer. It does what it says, i.e. prints, copies, scans and faxes, but I found printing envelopes to be a nightmare! They always get stuck, smudged inside of the machine or print crooked. The print quality is okay, but not half as crisp as other ink jets I have owned. I have owned this machine for 6 months and am currently looking at other manufacturers to purchase a new one.

Purchased this to avoid buying lots of ink cartridges for an inkjet printer. Its mostly used by my wife for grad school (30 page papers). With the small toner cartridge that came with the printer, we got 9 months worth of school work and miscellaneous stuff printed. We expect at least 1 year with the new toner. You inkjet owners can do the math. Print quality is fine for what we do.One downside is that its an energy hog. It makes our lights dim when it wakes up. Also, the toner light didn't come on prior to it running out and subsequently, not working. Usually laser printers will give you a low-toner light, and print quality will diminish before you're to the point of no return. This printer tells you when its too late. Better keep an extra $68 cartridge on hand.

I owned the HL-1440 and absolutely loved it. I needed a new printer, so I just got this one. It has been a total nightmare. I am a medical transcriptionist and have to print on pre-printed patient reports. The printer will pull 2 pages at once, thus printing the report on the wrong patient. The worst part is this totally destroys the patient record, as it types on top of other printed reports from previous visits. I can type up to 2 notes per sheet. I will receive the patient record with already one visit printed on it, then have to print the current report and guess what???? 2 sheets pull up, this is making my job VERY STRESSFUL. So beware if you use pre-printed sheets to print on.

I got this with a great price...the price is why I kept it.1)As a copier, excellent.2)As a FAX, excellent.3)As a scanner, excellent.4)For SMALL print jobs, a few sheets, excellent (Text).5)For color photos, useless.6)For large (text) print jobs, useless.#5 and #6 have the same problem, after a while (halfway through a large print job or a photo) the printer goes "not ready" and never becomes ready again. It will not print out a complete photo with glossy paper in normal or above mode. For a large text print job, the printing fades for a line or two, then the printer quits.I have two other printers, a general purpose printer and a photo printer. That is why I kept the Brother MFC210C...I have other printers for photos and larger print jobs. As above, the other features are great, so I kept it. It was the price of a scanner alone.If you want just ONE printer, this is not for you.If you do get one, be sure you can return it for refund in case you have similar problems.

Fine for text and light color printing, very affordable for an all in one. Print quality for text is ok, speed is ok (for text)...BUT...Don't be fooled into thinking this is a good printer, it's pretty marginal. Colors were very washed out. Photo printing was awful (and I wasn't expecting much for the price). Color printing had noticable banding (lines) on even the best setting with very good paper. Build quality is cheap, feels like it will break every time you put paper into it (paper tray is SUPER flimsy). Scanning quality was slow and sub-par (again, I didn't expect it to be great for the price). Printing is rather noisy, but not the worst.. The media readers work, but the photo printing is nasty, defeats the purpose.So if you do light printing for the home/office and need fax capability, this guy is cheap and looks appealing. If you do a lot of color or photo printing, keep looking.And just for the record - I've seen people complain about the lack of a USB cable, I've yet to encounter a printer that came with one so this is not a big deal.

Wow! Well designed and thought-out, this device does a great job copying, faxing, scanning and printing. Everything it's *supposed* to do works very well. The LCD display *is* a tad hard to read, but a few minutes in the manual and you won't need to look at it much, anyway. Brother out-did themselves with this product.What I like most:Individual ink carts: no more buying a new cart when you only need yellow, or blue -- just replace whichever color you need. This is something you'd find on a high-priced pro model, not a low-end consumer like this."Safe' plug: the printer cable is fed underneath the hood of the scanner unit, a very elegant and safe way to keep wires from getting bent or yanked out.Very fast and quiet operation.ASTOUNDING color copy quality. I've never seen pictures copied on a multi look this good on PLAIN PAPER. I've yet to try photo paper in this thing...What I don't like: just one thing, and that's the scanner driver. It lacks some of the common controls and adjustments I prefer, but Brother should be releasing a beefed up controller fairly soon.If you need a low cost, high quality and no-nonsense copier, fax, printer, scanner and picture card reader, you cannot beat the Brother MFC-210c.

The brother MFC-210C IS GREAT for you if:1. you want a cheap but reliable way to do things2. you don't want to compromise on quality3. you are not such a neat freak4. you are okay with inkjet printingThis machine is just too good....the screen is a bit light and the paper jams are a bit too common however nothing major!

My desk at home was getting a bit crowded (a fax machine here, printer there, scanner, etc.) so I decided to do a bit of shopping around for a multi-function printer. I practically spent the whole day viewing the various printers Amazon has to offer and at the same time, reading the comments associated with these printers. I then came across this Multi-function unit that absolutely caught my eyes. I instantly loved the look of it and when I read the reviews, I was sure this is what I wanted. Am I glad I bought it on March 17, 2005. It stands so attractively on my desk waiting for me and set up is a breeze, not to mention meeting all my expectations with not even a gliche. I have enjoyed this item. It is compact and all-in-one. I have recommended it to friends. I would recommend it if space is a concern. My on complaint is that at first the ink did not print colors as expecten ie purple printed as pink.

I've had the 210c for about a year. Maybe printed 100 pages in all that time. I replaced the ink carts just recently, printed 10 pages - now the black ink is totally gone. GARBAGE!

PRO:* Cheap* StandAlone Print/Scan/Fax/Copy* Can Print/Scan/Fax/Copy over a network* Has multimedia card readerCON:* Install failed to work. So I had setup everything manual.Might need a geek to help you set this application up. One big problem I had with it is that if you are using DHCP to assign IP addresses to machines on your network. When your printer get another IP address you wont be able to print. So you have to assign it a IP address.* Printing not that fast. Print quality is average.* To access multimedia card you have to use FTP to connect to it.* Photo printing on it is mediocore.Conclusion: If you dont want spend a lot of money on multifunction printer than this is the right one for ya.

Installation was a breeze with the large-print step-by-step installation instructions. Printouts are great. Matter of fact, I was worried that the printouts would not be as good as my Epson printer because of some of the reviews here, but I'm glad to report, everything, including photos, print perfectly. However, as with all new computer equipment I install, I did not install the software from the CD, rather, I downloaded the latest MFL-Pro Suite software directly from the brothers.com web site (I dislike installing software from an enclosed CD, only to have to update it soon afterwards, and do the whole uninstall, reinstall thing).I definitely recommend this printer if you need a do-it-all device.

After trying three different Multifunction machines, (2 HP's and 1 Epson) and returning them, I've finally found one that does what it is supposed to do. I currently have a Compaq laptop and Powerbook G4. This printer was a breeze to set up on both. The scanning feature is wonderful. All of my scans have come out true to the original. The fax works great, never had any trouble sending or receiving. The only problem I can come up with is that when you are printing color documents, they can be pretty slow. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

I had an Epson 5200 and I used it a lot. I was always buying ink cartrages for it, until it quit working. I bought the Brother to just get me by, but it does a great job. I use it mainly for copies and I have used the hell out of it, for about 6 months now - so far so good.

This all in one was a breeze (about 10 minutes)to install under Mac 10.3.8. I followed the instructions in the quick start manual and made sure to restart my machine when all done. The same install under Windows XP Pro took almost and hour. This machine is connected through the ethernet option and has worked great. There are two PC and three Macs that share this machine all without problems. Reading the quickstart guide and the manual are a must to an easy set up with this machine. I used the DHCP defualt setting in the machine for networking purposes.

There are many color print/copy/scan/fax machines out there, but surprisingly few that are easily networkable. This one is. It's easy to set up the PC software on networked machines, easy to get the Brother working the network, and even easy to scan to networked computers. Easy easy easy. I was going to get an HP 7410, but CNET user reviews of the software scared me away from it. I'm happy I went with the Brother. I just wish it didn't look so much like a collection of leftover parts from Beige Plastics, Inc.

This printer is amazing for an unbelievable price. All of the features are great. I haven't even used all of the features yet, but here are some of my favorite features:-Very easy instructions/setup-Many easy to follow settings-Can receive faxes even with printer off-You do not need a dedicated phone number to use fax-You can make copies without turning on your computer-It will accept digital camera memory cards and will print out an index of all the pictures on it, so you can decide right then without turning on your computer(I did not actually print my photos this way yet)-Quality of photo printing is wonderful-3 separate color ink cardridges for cost effectiveness-Quiet and compact

I operate in a Windows XP Home environment with the latest drivers.This printer prints well but absolutely refuses to print envelopes. It is very frustrating to finish a letter and then have to hand address it, not once but repeatedly.Tech support? What's that?This will be my last Brother.

I haven't had too much time to play with it yet, but my initial impressions are good. I will write more later as I get to play with it, but the install was flawless, better than almost any other product I've dealt with. The USB port is in an odd place, hidden in the middle of the unit. But in a way it makes sense, because you don't have the stiff end of a usb cord sticking out of the side or back awkwardly. After reading some of the instructions, you can see that this unit has alot of features, for the extremely low price you can get it for.Also, for those reviewers who thought the LCD was hard to see, if you look in the instructions, you will see directions on how to change the contrast, and now its easy to see.

I've had terrible luck with most all-in-one's that say they're Mac compatible. The software never really gives you everything you get on a PC. Brother's solution really is a truly mac-native system and it works like a charm. Printing is fast - even over a wireless network, which was a breeze to set up with the built-in networking feature. Scanning was crisp and clear. Faxing is a breeze. And the included memory card reader is spot on. I highly recommend this unit for anyone looking for an all-in-one solution.

An affordable printer with lots of speed and No reliability. I have gone through several Brother printers in the last thirteen years and this one is the pits. Lasted only about three months. Product support is like pulling teeth...it takes several emails before you can talk to a human...then they go thru the "is it plugged up and swithed on" routine. I went through three layers of tech support and no luck. I figured what little I spent on this thing I may as well just chuck it. I think I will go back to an Okidata printer...I have had problems with them...but if I am not up and running I have a replacement in about four days (important if your in business). I will say the Brother DCP-1200 multifunction machine I have is very impressive...like a timex...takes a licking and keeps on printing or copying.

I just purchased one of this and realised that when it comes to photographs this printer does not live up to the job. You can see the white lines on the paper very clearly. I still prefer my HP ... For ordinery job .. this machone is okay ... but when comes to pictures ... it is a no no ....

But it does have some problems. Just got my printer today, however, using AMD Athlon 2200+, XP, and tested it out. Scanner fails to communicate. The copy quality is streaky--so will keep trying to tweak it. We uninstalled and reinstalled Hardware and Software CD to try to get the scanner to work with no luck. No downloads are available yet but Brother is working on it. Not all the plug and play it should be but there is hope.

This is a very good printer for 3 months until you get an error 41 and have to call the company. We own 8 brother mfc's and all 8 have failed some replaced 2 and 3 times.

This is a good, basic laser printer if you don't need color. Handles a variety of media sizes, envelopes, postcards, etc. Items fed through the top tray do tend to curl slightly, but it hasn't damaged anything thus far. If you need more functionality and have the budget for it, I would recommend one of Brothers' multifunction machines. I have a Brother MFC 3820cn at home, which I love, but it is NOT laser, which I needed at the office due to the volume of printing I do there.

Setup - easyBasic Operation - fast and reasonably quiet, appears to be well built. Printing text - excellent, as good as a much more expensive industrial hp laser printer I frequently use. Nice and dark.Printing graphics/photos - in highest settings (1200dpi, "improved gray scaling" checked) it's good, but nothing exceptional. The output is not too dark, as is sometimes the problem with other inexpensive lasers. Manual Duplex printing - this was at first confusing to me because I wanted to use the lower paper tray to do it all: print one side and then feed the output back again into the lower tray to print the other side (if you have more than 50 sheets you need to use the lower tray). This did not work for me until I finally hardwired the tray settings from "auto detect" to "tray 1". The manual did not mention this step. New drivers from Brother (as of January 14, 2004) did not fix this. Printing duplex from the multi-purpose tray works fine without having to hardwire the settings.Customer support - so far not good. I went through much trepidation figuring out how to get the lower tray to work on duplex because I could not reach support people. The number always seems to be busy.Highs - good, fast prints and reasonably quiet operation.Lows - documentation is not completely accurate, customer support isn't good. Could use a sleep mode indicator as the previous reviewer mentioned.

First I bought an HP LaserJet 1300. I liked the printer and it was fast, but my wife's business' letterhead gets printed on a slightly textured paper and I just couldn't get the LaserJet's toner to adhere well to the paper. After trying every conceivable configuration of print settings, I finally conceded defeat. So back the HP went and I skeptically went with my second choice, the Brother HL-5050... I didn't have high hopes that a cheaper printer would do the job since the HP couldn't handle it... Although it is somewhat slower than the HP (especially for graphics), it has handled everything I have thrown at it, without having to even mess with different print settings. It printed beautifully on the slightly rougher paper, something I could never coax the HP into doing... I am very happy with my "second choice" and the fact that it worked out better and yet me less is icing on the cake...

I recently purchased the Brother MFC-210 and I love it! It was easy to hook-up and I had no problems with installing the hardware or the software! So far I have used the printer, scanner, copier and photo capture functions. The all work great!The only thing that I can think of that is a problem is the amount of noise it makes. But I am not complaining. It is just something I have to get used to.(...)If you are looking for an inexpensive all-in-one, I say, look no further!

This All-in-One machine does all it promised to do at a great low price! Other so-called All-in-Ones, such as H-P's, don't have fax capability. You think fax is out of style? I've used it twice already!This is the best bang for your bucks!

I never owned a printer that I came to hate so quickly as this. We have had this machine less than a year with fair results at best. Now I have the dreaded error 41 message. That's how I got here...I find that means throw it away or hassle with the company and still own a bad machine. Don't buy this!

This is generally not a bad printer however it does tend to overheat paper so that it comes out curly, which is very annoying if you print large documents or want to print high quality.The support desk said to resolve this by setting the paper type to 'transparency' for normal paper printing which indicates that this is a typical problem. It also doesnt solve it. Overall Im not very impressed with either printer or support and wouldnt get another Brother printer.

I bought this printer last minute. The printer I had before went out on me and I needed something quick. I do a fair amount of printing and this thing is awesome! Not a single glitch, setup took less than 5 min and it was ready to rock and roll. It has fair price for what it is capable of.

As a die-hard HP fan, (I still have my DeskJet, but my HP laser finally died) I am rather impressed with this printer. Fast and clear output - even with lots of graphics on the page. The printer was easy to set up; the drivers and software easy to install and understand.However, the "save toner" mode is rather useless: it saves so much toner, the page cannot be read unless I adjust the default to print darker - which defeats the purpose.This printer has a "sleep mode" that I'm not terribly fond of: there are no lights to remeind me that my printer is still, technically, "on". I forget to turn off the power, and as a cat owner, my cats step on buttons and turn my printer back on at the most inopportune times.And I'm one of those users who like to have a printed manual in my hands to look at. The manual for this printer is on CD; which one of these days, I will print out (not in save-toner mode, though).I have other Brother products, but this is the first Brother printer I've purchased. So far, I'm very pleased.
