I have been using this printer for years and have run about 50,000 pages through it!!!!! I am still refilling the original cartridges that came with the printer with bulk ink I purchased on ebay years ago.

I have been very pleased with the Brother printers and the ease of setting them up on a wired or wireless network. The LC61 is the second printer I have purchased in the last 5 years. For the price and ease of usage, best way to go. Have been greatly impressed with this product.

THIS IS A PRETTY GOOD DEAL FOR A ALL IN ONE PRINTER. I ALSO LIKE IT THAT IT IS WIRELESS. SO YOU DONT HAVE TO BE CONNECTED TO PRINT. YOU CAN PRINT ANYWHERE IN THE HOUSE. SO FAR SO GOOD. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT!!!!

The good:* This printer is one of the best I've owned so far!* It prints quickly, and the colors are good.* Setup was easy and fast; my three Macs and one Dell PC all print to (and scan from) it wirelessly.* I can select any of my computers -- including my Macs -- from the printer LCD and scan to it.* I can "print" any document as a fax to a phone number, and that works well.* The 11x17 paper size is GREAT for the kinds of documents I print.* I can see supply levels from my Macs...wirelessly.* I can't stress enough how impressed I am with the wireless support for this printer in the Mac drivers. I've tried a variety of Airport Express units and dedicated WiFi printer hubs with other printers (HP, Epson, and Canon) in the past, and they either didn't work, or only had partial functionality. This is the first one that does everything on both the Mac and Windows XP without compromise.The bad:* It doesn't print double-sided without having to manually flip the paper over; I thought I read somewhere it would, but it doesn't. One of the benefits of 11x17 paper is to print 4-panel "booklets" and this manual step slows that down.* The Auto Document Feeder only seems to work when faxing; I haven't been able to figure out how to use it for scanning. Perhaps it doesn't, or I just don't know how to make it work...The unknown:* I've read about how quickly the ink runs out on this printer, but I haven't experienced that yet. I'll let you know if this is a problem after I've had the printer long enough to find out.All in all, I'm VERY happy with this printer purchase.

BIG Mistake. Poor color quality printing (not at all similar to the original paper). Drinks ink non-stop. will not function at all if any of the ink is empty. Keeps giving "NO INK" messages, after I just replaced all inks. Not a good machine even for the money.

Just bought the Brother MFC-490cw to replace my dead Lexmark X83. Simply stated, this is an awesome all-in-one printer! Setup was quick and easy. The printer found my wireless router in seconds. Loaded the proper drivers in the various laptops and BAM! we were printing without wires!The print quality for both text and color images is very good. the 3.3" color screen is a very nice feature. Having true CMYK print cartridges (meaning 4 different cartridges) means you only have to replace the color that is empty. It also has slots for memory cards and flash drives so that you can fax/scan straight to those when you don't have a PC handy. All things considered, I couldn't be happier with this printer. At $79.99 it was a steal of a deal!! Wi-Fi printing, the only way to print!!!!Update: We've used this printer quite a bit since we purchased it, both for my daughter's many high school homework, reports, photos, etc., and for my writing and editing work. This printer is AMAZING. It takes every wireless job with ease and speed. It prints edge to edge if needed, and it's use of the CMYK print cartridges is excellent. I really can't believe I was able to get such a great all-in-one machine for under 80 bucks!! If you haven't looked closely at this printer, you should. I've seen $200+ printers that weren't nearly this good. IT ROCKS!!!

I like everything about this printer EXCEPT that when you run out of colored ink, you cannot print---even if you have a full black ink cartridge. It's Brother's way of forcing people to buy more of their ink cartridges (although the Brother representative who spoke to me about the problem gave me some bull about how the machine would be damaged if it printed from only the black ink cartridge).Anyway, I solve the problem by putting some electrical tape over the middle part of each cartridge that is registering as out of ink. That middle part is where the machine reads the ink level. The black electrical tape fools the machine into thinking that the cartridge is full (the machine registers the darkness). Anyway, that solved my problem. Who feels like shelling out $25 bucks for colored cartridges when I don't even print in color?UPDATE 5/14/11: Just wanted to point out that this printer is still going strong. I would highly recommend any Brother product as they have great customer service. I've phoned Brother several times since I bought this printer, and they've always helped me despite the fact that my warranty has long expired. I'm pleased with the product and the service.

I normally do not write reviews, but in this case I feel compelled to comment on this excellent ALL-IN-ONE.After years of nothing but mediocre performance and service from HP machines, I decided to go wireless and give this Brother a chance based on the reviews I had read. I was not disappointed, and in fact, I was more than pleasantly surprised.The machine was very easy to set up and configure (we are a Mac household), and even with the machine two floors from the wireless router, we've had no issues at all. I just followed the directions, and with only one small glitch that resolved itself with a re-boot, the set up was perfectly executed. The sleep function works perfectly, and the quality and ease of use are exemplary. While I agree that color photo printing is not of the highest quality, I've never expected an all-in-one to print photos nearly as well as a dedicated photo printer. That being said, the color reproduction is still very, very good.Overall, this is an excellent machine and a great value.

I've used Brother products mostly at work and found them to be functional no-nonsense products with the right features for SOHO (small office / home office) users. Although the feeder of our workplace Brother MFC device is busted... but these things never last too long, not more than a few (5K-10K) 1000 pages due to dust and wear/tear.My main reasons for buying this multi-function center (MFC) device:* Multi-page scan and fax (now I can scan in multiple documents, one by one from the feeder instead of being forced to use the flat bed, which is also an option for scanning larger or original/certificate-style documents that should not be put in a feeder). There are few/none low end products with this capability. You either get flat bed or heavy duty feeder machines that cost over $250.==> The main value of this feature & my primary reason for buying this device is to scan all my important documents in to PDF for long term preservation. This is to reduce the number of copies of original I have to keep and anywhere access of digital documents. Not sure how well their OCR software will read the text in the documents. If it does read most of the stuff and that content is searchable via Spotlight/Google Desktop/Vista - whoohoo!* Good software (PaperPort LE for Windows (XP & Vista) and PageManager for Mac OS X (including Leopard) for converting docs to PDF* Network connectivity using Ethernet - connect it to a network hub/router and share it! And ofcourse it also supports USB.* Decent price for refill cartridges (slightly higher than Epson & Cannon but not mind bending prices like Lexmark). I don't care much for the inkjet color printing since I don't need it and have a cheap & efficient Samsung (ML1040) black & white laser printer. For photo printing I'd rather go to retail stores since I don't print too many photos.* Light-weight driver installation. I agree with the other reviewer that HP needs to take a good look at their software and reduce the bloat. Even Epson has some heavy duty stuff. Running their (HP, Epson & others) software at startup slows down the computer and the tray icons are just too distracting. Can't stress this point enough!* A minor factor: Silver black finish, the flat top of this product makes it easier to pack and move if you lose the original box.* And the rest, the usual: multi-function fax/scan/copy/print, multiple-memory card support, USB support (2 ports, not sure why).Will update this review once I have direct experience on this particular machine.

I got it [...] and I couldn't be happier. I am able to work from home becasue I have this unit. I love the feature in which I can scan to email as PFDs.I have been using the printer for 6 months and need to replace the black, so I am happy with the ink usage. The paper handling may not be perfect but it is way better than the last HP I had and has never jammed on me. I haven't tried printing photos because that is not why I bought it. I have a Canon I use for that.The poster that indicated he had to enable file and printer sharing is not correct. I just hook it to my router and any computer in my home I install the driver on can use the printer.For the price it is a great all in one. It prints very quickly, receives and sends faxes in record time. I am very happy. Buy it.

I bought this product based on the positive reviews I read here on Amazon. I bought it because others said:- Ink is cheap to replace (which it is!)- It does not install unnecessary services for use with networked computersFor the price this is an excellent deal. It will not win any speed races in regard to printed pages per minute, but is completely adequate for my purposes. Installation and setup was a breeze. Network setup via LAN is surprisingly easy to work..I can scan documents from the scanner to any networked computers with ease. Print quality is good and paper has never jammed on me. It even has slots for media cards as to be expected with most new printers these days.In an office with 12 computers, there are several different brands of printers, each installing either extra services or requiring bloated software to make it work. The software (optional) that comes with this product is easy to use and is not bloated.The OCR (text recognition for scanned documents) is low-frills, HOWEVER it makes fewer mistakes than many other scanners I have used of the same price range. I was very surprised by how few mistakes this machine made.My only gripe is that I could not for the life of me figure out how to type in letters to name my MachineID for faxing (it would only type numbers over and over and would not allow me to input letters). Luckily it is not our primary fax machine. Other than this issue the documentation seems sufficient.I wholeheartedly recommend this mid-range printer / scanner / copier / fax machine if you are looking for an excellent value for the price you pay.

I have NEVER had much trouble with printers. They get a few years old and just stop working. But I've had nothing but problems with this horrific device! From the beginning, the manual was in Chinese, the operation was so complicated that I had to refer to (and decipher) the manual over and over. Just changing the ink carts was ridiculous, as the stupid thing ALWAYS said "no cartridge" until you pounded the new one in with your fist (all three colors and black did the same thing). Had to "clean" the black each and every time I wanted to print a letter, resume, etc. More smudged and faded prints than should ever be put up with. Won't ALLOW you to print if the idiotic thing PERCEIVES that ink in ANY cartridge is low (even if it's almost half full)!!!! I would never buy anything from BroHoe again, and suggest you STAY AWAY!

You can find this MFC as low as $69 and at this price you really can't go wrong. This MFC comes with the features of expensive MFC's of a few years ago, but at a fraction of the cost.The ink is relatively cheap for an MFC. I was using an HP all-in-one and the ink was always expensive to replace. Not so with the Brother MFC-465cn.I have this set up as a network printer and it was done relatively painlessly. Yes, it does take a few days to learn all its functions, but getting past the slight learning curve is well worth the effort. If you are slightly tech-savvy, you will find it has really powerful features. For example you can set the IP address to a fixed one. You can also "telnet" to the printer and change settings with the command line.Although you can send and receive faxes directly from your PC, this MFC also works in complete "stand alone" mode. I like the fact that the fax scans all your pages to memory before sending it out. If you have a bad destination line, you can set the "compatibility" mode to "Basic" and get the faxes sent over a noisy line. You can set the fax transmission report to include a copy of the cover sheet, making them easy to file.The color lcd, card readers and pict-bridge slot make it easy to print directly from your camera or flash media, as is the 4"x6" photo print feeder for printing postcard size pictures.Print quality is excellent. Scanning multiple pages to a PDF document is a cinch. Speed of scanning, printing and copying is reasonably fast, though not as fast as the higher end-MFCs. But with the low price, who cares!

I can't be happier about finally being able to take a sledge hammer to the festering pile of... err... that is, the HP PSC 1410 All-in-One Printer (Q7290A#ABA) I've been chained to for the past two years. This new Brother MFC-465CN is *everything* that the HP PSC 1410 is not -- it's quiet, it's fast, it's insanely easy to use, and (the single most important feature of all, in my opinion) it doesn't install hundreds of megabytes of useless bloat-ware and a dozen memory- and cycle-pig services on your computer when you install the printer driver.I've got the MFC-465CN plugged into my LinkSys WRT54G wireless router, with wireless NIC's on five Windows boxes. It took me less than a minute per machine to install the driver, and (*gasp!*) it didn't add any services! Or tool tray garbage! Or auto-run garbage in the registry! My prayers had been answered! I wept for joy!Regarding the other reviewer comment about slow printing, I have the feeling that your mileage may vary depending on how things are connected together. I just dumped this here page (lots of color, graphics, images, and whatnot) to the MFC-465CN and it took just a hair over 30 seconds from start to finish. Much, *much* faster than my old FrankenPrinter. And the print quality is *superb*, for both text and images. No idea how photos will look, but my bet is that it'll do an excellent job of it.Also no clue about how long I'll be able to go before I have to replace the ink cartridges, but ANYTHING has to be better than the FrankenPrinter, which ate a black cartridge every three or four weeks... even though I rarely print more than a page every other day (!!!).Just the mere thought of being able to nuke all of that HP bloat-ware on my computers and disembowel that PSC 1410 gives me great pleasure. And I think I'll jump up and down on its carcass a couple of times, and sprinkle some salt on it, just to make sure it doesn't rise from the dead.UPDATED, 16JAN08: I've been working this printer like a plow-horse for the past month, churning out all sorts of stuff (maps, photos, mailing labels, etc.) and I *still* love the bejabbers outta it. I've dumped at least a dozen full-color Google maps, a dozen or so photos, around a hundred B&W pages and lots (and lots!) of mailing labels, and as far as I can tell it's NOT EVEN CLOSE to running out of ink -- black or otherwise.Very happy camper. Loving this printer, and thinking about buying another one and putting it up in the attic, just in case they stop making 'em.

Overall, this is a great printer at a fantastic price. Setup was easy, I initially did USB and then set it up on the wired LAN. Also set it up on a Mac that is wirelessly connected to the network. No problems. The footprint is reasonably small for a printer in its class, which is appreciated. It doesn't take up much more space than the print-only HP Laserjet it replaced.I knocked one star off this review for two reasons: (1) 15 page auto document feeder is small compared to most of the competition, although it does work well; and (2) the paper tray is also somewhat small and a bit cumbersome to load (you have to pull it out and take the cover off).But so far, after about 2 weeks, I am very pleased with this purchase.

I bought this all-in-one system on sale for $50 and it is working really well since then. The starter ink cartridge has lasted more than 50 pages and I am still waiting for it to finish up. This is great for regular document printing. scanning and faxing. I wouldn't expect a machine with this price to produce life-like photos in the first place but it does a decent job.Pros:1. Great quality & value for money invested2. Long lasting ink cartridge and multiple cartridges for diff colors.3. CHEAP INK !! $7 "compatible" black ink cartridge produces 450 pages.4. Easy to use scanning, copying, faxing with good document feeder for scanning a bunch of sheets at the same time.5. Large capacity document tray.Cons:1. If not used for a week, the printer takes 3-4 minutes to clean the cartriges before printing starts.

I had this machine for 2 whole weeks when it just powered off and NEVER turned on again. Problem with Brother is you either get a great product or a lemon!!So I called them and emailed them, "tried plugging it in different outlets," and at their request took it to the service center (30 miles away). The service center ordered new parts, then ordered more parts when those didn't solve it. Then I waited several weeks while the part (a power pack!) was on backorder. When it came in, and the machine STILL did not power on, is when the real fun with BROTHER began!Every time I or the service center rep called BROTHER, we would get all kinds of different answers, lies, stall tactics...My absolute favorite, however, happened after BROTHER insisted that I speak with them again (as if the service center did not know what they were talking about) and explaining to them that the machine is completely dead with a black screen, they wanted me to "print trouble shooting reports from the machine and fax it to them from the machine" that DOES NOT TURN ON!!!BRILLIANT!!So, since I originally contacted them on November 24th, and here it is December 31st.....I STILL DON'T HAVE MY PRODUCT OR MY MONEY!!!!

Not much more you could ask in a multi-function printer. The print quality is excellent including photos and the wireless was easy to configure. I would recommend this product to anyone who needs a new printer with scanner without spending a boatload of money. The printing is quiet enough to not wake the kids.

I have tried everything to set up this printer to work wireless with my lap tops using Visa OS and nothing has worked to date. I purchased this printer with the reason that it was affordable and that it will be wireless but I was wrong it just would not connect with the wireless next to each other.Poor choice by me.

I have now had this machine for a week and I'm generally satisfied with its performance. I can only give it a two star because its message center is very poorly designed. There is a 5 second delay before the outgoing message comes on. Complete silence..............Waiting for 5 seconds with no sound (not even beeps) is extremely annoying because you don't know if the answering machine is working or not. Some of my callers ended up hanging up before the message came on.I have confirmed this quirk with customer service and was told that this delay is by design and is required for situations where there is an incoming fax so the two machines can negotiate a connection. There is no fix for it. In fact, I also found this issue being reported as far back as 2007 in other Brother multi-function machines.Can't they even add a beep counter or something to at least indicate that the message is coming??

We never really had this printer working well. It was always tricky to get things to print correctly, the printer wells are difficult to access. The printer won't print if any cartridge is empty. Cartridges are not recyclable or refillable. We never had good color reproduction and didn't bother printing photos. The tiny LCD screen is impossible to read. Now, the black won't even print. Scanning is pretty difficult (although it copies relatively easily). We are getting rid of it today and getting a new printer.

I still don't understand those so called "product managers". With Apple and Microsoft moving towards a "digitally connected home" I was shocked to discover that networked home focused AIO are still rare. Most of the available options are still to expensive and targeting small offices.My choice was kind of a challenge, my AIO had to offer:- Networked scanner without need of any software installation on workstations;- Linux compatible;- Fair print quality;- Low price;Some of my daily use computers are owned by my employer, something that prevents me from having tones of software installed on the computer. Not that I cannot explain that to the company, but, wouldn't it be better if I don't need to explain?After searching for a while I found this MFC for a good price on a local store (sorry amazon, but you don't ship that overseas! 8D ).I'm kind of a techie type but install was extremely easy: Just follow the instructions and the system will work (XP wise). Print quality is decent, some sites will say that the quality is poor but I found no base to support this claim. I've printed a self made test page and even Pt 6 times new roman characters are clear.Scan is fair and if you are not expecting the best scanner in the planet and a perfectly aligned ADF. Have in mind this equipment is CHEAP and you won't be that disappointed.I do most of my scanning using only the firmware. Just insert a compact flash card (i had some old ones at my photo bag) and you have a FTP enabled network scanner, perfect for your geek network setup.Speed is good, suitable for normal home operations, and even for a small office. I've seen people complaining about paper feed/jam. I'm currently using plain 80gsm paper. No issues so far. Did some feed tests with DL envelopes (110x220mm). No problems as well.Overall a good choice.Pros:- Simple network setup;- 100% network enabled system.- Scan to PDF direct on memory card or FTP over the network;- CheapCons:- It isn't that slow but it could be faster;- Plain paper can get pretty soaked with ink;- Standalone scanner feature could have a higher range of resolutions. 200x200 dpi black and white produces fast but poor scans and the color 300dpi larger files for what could be only B&W PDF.

Fairly large in size, solidly built, and well designed printer. The set-up with a CD was a breeze and the written instructions were easy to follow. The four "starter" ink cartridges were no problem to install and the paper loading and discharge system is neat and efficient. An enclosed manual explains most details well. The buttons are not bad to figure out, although the LCD window providing instructions is too small and has NO backlighting -- you are better off going up by one model for much larger and better display.The quality of the bw text is fine, and the bw and color photos look good. For me, a very desirable feature is that it is a QUIET printer, without all the clang-bang of every other inkjet printer I have listened to at Office Depot. I do not need FAX, but the scanner and photo capture devices work well and the speed is fast enough. Use a good quality USB cable to avoid any hassle.Hey, brother, for about $100 or less, the avergae home-office user could hardly go wrong buying this printer. I recommend it.

Before I get the 490cw I had several 3 in 1 printers and last one was HP. I haven't had a better printer than this one. It is All in 1, look nice in your desk, good printing quality and on top of that Very Good Price. However the most powerful feature in this printer is the wireless. I could print in anywhere within my network ... so nice...I recommend it for anyone who need printer for home use (not for office or you print a lot, and a lot meant 1000 page a month) Do not hesitate and add it to your cart and you will never find a printer do everything for this relatively low price. I hope my review is helpfulwish you the best

The printer is not too bad. The only thing I have issues with is that it prints alot slower than my past printers and it doesn't print very dark and colorful. You can adjust the color on your computer, but it still is not very bright in color. I guess you get what you pay for!.CathyKaty, TX

The MFC465cn has nice features for the price, but the low price is actually its best feature. My biggest complaints are (1) the paper tray, and (20 the infernal "low ink" or "empty ink" warnings.The paper tray is strictly internal (no convenient quick-load or priority slot for a single sheet) and a mechanical challenge. Supposedly, you can load 4x6 photo paper, but I could never make it work. Another inconvenience: the paper tray is totally enclosed, so you can't see how much paper is left in the tray. You find that out when you try to print something and get a No Paper announcement.But the biggest headache with this box is its incessant low/empty ink warnings and status settings, which can actually freeze the machine until you buy and load new ink cartridges. That's even true if you're only trying to scan or fax, which have NOTHING to do with ink! Frustrating!

I purchased this machine because I needed a fax with a phone right away and the separate ink cartridge system helped sell me. I appreciated the flatbed scanner for small stuff, and the small footprint. Setting it up was easy as a stand-alone unit. About half a day later however, when making copies, I got an error message that would not go away. Investigation revealed that the plastic strip that the print head apparently slid on had dislodged from one end. I was unable to reattach it (and being a do-it-yourself-er I really tried) and so returned the machine. I might be tempted into repurchasing if I could be convinced that was a fluke and not a serious design flaw. The machine lasted less than a day under light to moderate use. I notice the seller I bought from is no longer carrying them, at least online.

This is the first and last brother printer I will own.First, you must have ink in order to print any faxes. You can not see the fax before printing so you are spending a lot of money on ink. The option is not available. If you happen to run out of ink during a fax, the machine will not print the entire fax and you have to run and buy the ink.The OCR (optical character recognition) is so bad, it won't work unless the document is put in the right way and it will not let you select any options. It will always scan the entire page.

I purchased the Brother MFC-790CW approximately 2 weeks ago as a replacement for a Dell Printer.The setup was easy and it was possible to add it to my wireless network in less than 15 minutes. The printer is quiet and it prints relatively fast with nice colors. I have also sent and received several faxes with no problem.My only complaint about the machine would be the touch screen interface. The interface isn't as intuitive as other menu systems, so be prepared to be confused the first few times you use it. However, once you use it a few times it becomes second nature. Overall, I would consider the Brother Printer to be a recommended buy for its price range. You won't find any other all-in-one printers with so many features and quality printing for such a low price.

this printer crashed under warranty twice, it was a huge hassle to get brother to do anything about it. warranty is over, printer crashed again. i may have print 100/200 sheets of paper on this machine in its career with me. it seems like a deal for the price but it's actually cheaper to print at kinkos if you divide the purchase price buy the sheet.

I think I had too high expectations of this printer. I needed an all-in-one and on a student budget, I came down $100 in price from my first choice (also a Brother) to this one as it had the best reviews for a 'budget' machine.Pros:1) Everything included in a unit that is not too heavy or bulky.2) Price is right for students and those who are NOT PICKY and DO NOT have demanding photo print needs.3) Set up seems straightforward and took only a few minutes to get it out of the box and running. HOWEVER I can't comment fully on set up or even regular print quality because I'm not done setting up for the CON listed below.Cons:1) NOT WIRELESS -- I'm techie enough to get by but I don't study up on things for fun. I just read 'wireless networking capability' and 'easy networking set up' on the description for this printer and assumed it had a new fangled built in wireless card that I could connect to right away. I hate, absolutely HATE wires and have way too many that I'm looking at even now as I type.Unfortunately, technology and price point have not converged with this printer and you still have to hook up to your router or directly to your computer. I don't understan what the big deal about that is and it's not wireless in my opinion if you have to hook it up to something, anything, with a wire. This is a big disappointment for me.2) POOR PICTURE QUALITY -- I used the printer and was frankly taken aback by the low picture quality. I'm only a casual digi cam user, I got a point and click Kodak Easy Share because I just want to do exactly that -- quickly and easily take, print, save, and share photos. This printer does have PictBridge so I can quickly and easily connect my camera directly to the printer and print. I can preview everything I need on my camera viewfinder.But, it's not worth the ease of printing if I don't even want to keep the prints. The print quality is that bad. You might as well pay a few cents per print at your local express printing kiosk at the drugstore.If you are anywhere serious about taking pics or plan on sharing them with loved ones don't get this printer. Invest some money on a sole photo printer or go up $100 and buy another all in one with better resolution and color clarity.Overall:Crams a lot into one pritner and IF under $100 it's a good value. A decent investment whose biggest plus is ease of use. It's meant to be a workhorse for the budget-minded as well as students. One personal peeve is that they brought the price down a week AFTER I bought this. If you spend $140 for this printer it's a disappointment. Under $90? You can't complain.

I use AutoCAD at work and occasionally at home. My hubby and I jumped when we saw this printer: just had to get it! The print is as good as on the 11x17 HP inkjet at work, and this 11x17 scanner is a better size than any of the workplace ones (although I haven't used that function yet).Hubby managed to hook up the 6490 to our home wifi without help, and no, he didn't set our wifi up originally, and no, he doesn't really understand how wifi works. In fact, hubby is visually handicapped! I'd rate ease of installation to wifi as 5 stars. The only glitch we had was that we didn't know we had a firewall, but the install disc talked us though that step too.So now I'm sitting in bed typing on my Dell 1520 XP and sending to the printer in the other room. I don't know how it goes through ink, but will post back if I have an issue about that or anything else in the future.Edit added 9-6-08: We just changed the first ink cartridge. I've been printing mainly with black, but also did about 300 very small (2"x3") photos with lots of sky. We managed 700 copies on the first black cartridge as far as I can tell. Cyan is at 50% and magenta and yellow don't really show as being low yet. The machine has been beeping for the last week warning us black was low, but only today did it quit printing due to lack of ink. The last page it did was as good as the first, so I have to wonder exactly how low that ink was when it quit on us. At any rate: we had no wasted prints from low ink and it was nice enough to tell us it had stopped. Can't say that with the HP at work!

This is my 4th all-in-one printer...And you get what you pay for.. It's not a bad printer. It looks good, easy to setup and fairly easy to use..However, I purchased the unit for photo prints. Personal use 8X10s to decorate my new place. After ONE WHOLE pack of paper and every media I can think of..The quality, is fair at best..I tried over saturating the files and everything. The prints are grainy with visable bars..The smaller prints are OK. If you need a basic printer that produces quality 4X6 prints? Buy it, it's a nice printer.. If you're looking for 8X10 quality...Spend more..Get more.. Now I have a new printer..That does nothing for me...Wasted $$$...

I FEEL CHEATED THAT I SPENT 75.00 FOR THIS PIECE OF JUNK WHILE OTHERS ONLY SPEND 39.99! ANYWAY, I TRIED TO FAX SOMETHING THE FIRST DAY I GOT IT AND IT WOULDN'T WORK. WHILE INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE, IT STATED IT WASN'T COMPATIBLE WITH MY SOFTWARE. WHAT A MESS! NOW I HAVE TO LUG IT BACK, UGHHHHHHH!

I'm echoing the same sentiments that many of the other reviews who have a problem with this printer because of 4 individual ink cartridges that only works, even in black and white, if all 4 cartridges have ink. This is very frustrating since it costs $25 to fill ONE individual color ink cart when I rarely even use the printer in color mode.It is cheaper for me to just throw this printer away and purchase a different brand then to spend the money required to replace the cartridges.

I owned another brand for many years. I was perfectly satisfied, but it did not have all of the features that I needed. I bought the MFC465 on the strong recommendation of the sales rep in the office supply store. I immedidately noticed that it seemed more cheaply made than my original brand.The draft quality looks like draft quality print. My old printer had such good draft quality that I defaulted to that option for all of my professional papers. I saved a lot of ink this way. On this printer, I have to print normal quality just to read my banking statements. It seemd to use ink quickly.I was shocked to learn that I had to buy four different ink cartridges. The worst feature on this printer is that when one color goes out, the printer will not work until that one color is replaced. Most of my documents are in black and white. I played with the color prints while my grandchildren were visiting. It quickly ran out of yellow ink and would not print at all. Since I rarely use the color print, I was furious that my documents would not print. I had to stop what I was doing to run out and buy a yellow cartridge so that my black and white documents would print. That makes no sense to me.I told the store manager how displeased I was with this printer. He inferred that he had a lot of complaints on this particular printer. In fact, he was shocked that the sales rep recommended this brand over the others. Even though I have used this printer for four months, he agreed to exchange it for an upgraded version of my old brand.

The price of this all in one is good. For what it cost, you do get the features of more expensive all in ones. One of the features you don't get is speed. Printing is slow as people have said but what is really slow, to the point of being frustrating, is scan saved to computer. Even a low resoltion if 150 DPI takes some time.Had a Canon all in one, where the transfer speed was very quick even when using a higher DPI resoltion. The Brother all in one was a back up unit we had. It will again become a back up very soon as we do lots of scaning of photos and a faster transfer speed is needed.If you don't mind slow, this could be a good all in one.

I loathe and despise this printer. I mostly use the printer part of this machine for cardmaking and scrapbooking. I wasn't thinking when I bought this that I should have bought a machine that feeds paper from the back so it doesn't have to roll over to print. It hates cardstock and it takes several tries before I can get it to go through. I can't print on anything smaller than 8 1/2 x 11 because it won't feed and keeps jamming. I try taping the small piece to a larger piece but it just chews it up. Or it will pull several papers through at a time even though I've "fanned" them. I haven't figured out yet how to receive faxes and it won't collate multi page documents so the first page is on the top when you take them off the printer. This printer is only good for copying on paper of standard size and thickness.

I am happy but very disappointed customer. Yes, I like my handset that fits on the Brother MFC 845CW multi-purpose equipment. It appears to be a very expensive phone for a one unit phone. I have not been able to find additional handsets to place in other parts of my home/office. I do not like having to run back to the equipment to pick up the phone. I would prefer a set where I can have extension phones throughout my home/office.A couple of good attributes includes a high quality easy to use speaker phone which is great when I employ my hands to do other things besides holding the phone. It also seems to have a good range of use as I was able to carry it outside my home and continue the conversation without any real loss of reception.

Had my HP 2200 for 8 perfect years...it got tired and fell down, not to get up. Researched alot and purchased this machine because of reviews and in-store demo. Had to get my IT person to help install the software other than that it's been a dream. One feature (or lack thereof) is that it doesn't have a power indicator because it is Energy Star, so when it sleeps you can't tell if it's on unless you touch a control button. Brother tech service has been superior (telephone) answering the few questions I've had. ADF works great! Scanner is a breeze direct to e-mail or whatever. Not using FAX capabilities yet.

I checked the price of ink refills prior to purchase. That was an important factor along with print quality ans speed. Replacement cartridges are reasonable if purchased from certain websites. I found the print speed is somewhat shower than my previous machine but I can live with that. Overall, I recommend this product for any home or small business use.

Uses ink very fast, will not print on photo paper with out jamming constantly, jams a lot on regular paper, hard to clear jams, very frequently picks up multiple pages of paper. Seems cheap but the frustration and high cost of each print will drive you crazy.

As many other said before, it's a user-friendly, well-priced little unit which does ALL the things it promises to do: print, scan, fax, copy, photo capture while giving you the freedom of wireless network access. :) And it does ALL of them without any glitch or convoluted setup (take that Canon or HP!)Is it the best photo printer? Of course not but more than decent for even a letter-sized printout (make sure you calibrate your computer monitor to match it!)Is it the best scanner? Of course it's not but it's more than decent - and you can scan into any installed computer on the network! :)And the list goes on......anyway, if you are out for an AFFORDABLE, easy-to-use, low-cost WiFi-enabled multi-function with unique features like remote scanning then stop looking, this IS your unit, trust me. :)

I bought this printer a few months ago. I had to purchase a new wireless router because the old router could not handle both the new printer and the laptop.Pros:Easy to set upWirelessEnergy SavingsCons:Slow to printDoes not print double-sided (My old printer at least allowed me to print double-sided manually).I have a Macbook and the printer does not give me an option to print selected pages of a document. At least I haven't figured out how to tell the printer to only print selected pages.Wish I would of done more research because I prefer printing double-sided, which saves paper and money.

Very nice quality printer. The scanning is wonderful. I haven't sent a fax yet. It was easy to install. Wehad some difficulty accessing the on-line creative center. I received help from the help desk, and was forwarded to someone higher up and the problem was resolved. Very good value and extremely quick delivery.
