i've had an mfc-465cn for about 6 months. it's network attached to 5 different computers (1 windows server and 4 xp professional) with no hassles. i've used printing, scanning, fax send and receive, and a few copied. resolution is good on both printing and scans. i've only used the feeder a couple times but it worked ok. the software is (imho) excellent! i haven't worked with network-attached scanning that was as simple to set up and use.my only down-side comment is about ink monitoring. with most inkjets i've used, when they start reporting low-ink you can give the cartridges a gentle shake and they're good for a while longer. try the same thing with the brother and it shows the ink to be empty and won't print. basically once you have the cartridge in you'd better leave it alone - pulling it out messes with their ink-level sensing.this is a great multifunction unit for the money!

I loved my first Brother network MFC printer although the network card burned out way too soon but I love this one even more. The color has been improved and the wireless printing is awesome. I had the first Brother about 3 years and spent about $50 dollars on off brand ink (yes it works just fine) from clickinks for the whole 3 years and i have already ordered a huge supply from them for the new one for about $65. I remember years ago spending 60 to 80 $ a month on ink with those other brands of printer so that is the best part to me and I like the fact that they have the separate colors that only have to be changed when each color runs out.

No real complaints about this machine, and the price says it all. It does a decent job of copying documents, but as far as a photo printer - forget it. Blotchy and streaked photos every time. Also lacks fax capability, so really not an "all-in-one."

Liked my MFC-5440CN so much I bought this one next. Although I don't do a lot of scanning, a flat-bed is best. I like the automatic document feeder. I use the machine mostly for network printing, faxing (in & out) multiple pages, & copying. There could be a simpler way to address individual envelopes. This one requires taking out the paper stack & adjusting the track, then re-inserting the paper stack when finished. Easy network installation; just follow simple instructions.

Do not under any circumstances buy a Brother printer. They rig the machine so that it will accept no generic toners. You use a brother toner or the machine won't work. Amazing!

Very easy to set up on my home network, supporting XP, MacOS and 2 flavors of Linux. Not only inexpensive to purchase, but inexpensive to operate as well (as ink-jet printers go...) I no longer need a dedicated PC turned on all the time to act as a print server. 5 stars!

I just again gave it a yellow cartridge although I've only printed black, because it wants one, and it wants another one. The one I removed I only put in last week, and it sure looks full of ink to me. This is ridiculous and I have spent a lot of money - more than the fax machine is worth - on COLOR ink when I am only receiving black and white faxes. It just won't print when it THINKS it needs more color ink! I am ready to throw it out - right now I can't get it to print without going out and buying more yellow cartridges to "try" them out, because it refuses to recognize this one as having ink.And by the way, I couldn't find any help on the Brother site. It seems that this machine is no longer in their pull-down list. I did, however, find many unhappy reviews on the web with others having the same problems.

This machine does a great job for the money. It is a low-end all in one copy/fax/printer/scanner. If you plan on printing things in color, I'd pay more for a better printer. If you simple print in B&W, send a fax, or scan something then it would be hard to match this on a price-value bases.

had caller id feature but only the first few data characters are displayed- that means the name and not the phone number are actually seen on the top display line. Can print out the numbers as a list from memory but not useful after you've picked up the call. Can fax, copy, network print, and scan from pc on network so is multifunctional. Like how there are separate ink cartridges for 4 colors so you can replace only the empty ones. small and compact and paper tray does not stick out. print from flash card is useful but can't find some pictures depending on how your camera set up the directory. hard to turn on/off because button doesn't work all the time and not energy star compliant. cables snake through casing is awkward. Takes a while to prepare before it spits out the pages.

We needed a multifunction printer with color that was affordable and networkable. This device does the trick! The color inkjet cartridges are cheap, too!I would say that the copying/scanning is quite slow. Fortunately we have the better Brother 8860DN laser multifunction that does copying and scanning much faster than this so we may be spoiled in its speed compared to this 5460CN. We actually only use the 5460CN for color copies and the rest of its features as a backup in case our 8860DN dies.It is possible to have multi Brother devices in your network using their software. I am mentioning this because I could not find this information on the Brother website. If you install the Brother software, you can pick which Brother device to monitor and manage.One thing that I did notice is that the 5460CN printer loses communication with the Brother software installed on the computer, however, we are still able to print and scan. We just cannot use the buttons on the 5460CN to send the scans to the computers. I am not sure if this is our Symantec Client Security firewall or if this is a Brother software glitch. The 8860DN seems to have no problems in losing communication with our computers so we are able to send scans to each computer, which makes me think it's not an issue on our software firewall. The only way to "fix" the 5460CN communication problem is to turn it off and on again. Very odd. That's the only con I can think of at the moment, and again, not sure if it's our side or if it's a Brother software issue.

We use this on a SOHO network as our utility printer/fax/copier and have been very pleased with it. Reasonably easy to set up and use. The print quality is quite good, but not fantastic, more than adequate for normal usage.

I have found this Brother MFC-465cn Color Inkjet to be very efficient so far. I have not had the opportunity to "test it out" printiong photos yet but hopefully will get that underway soon.However, I have confidence with this product and expect it to perform as I want with the pictures.I have been very happy with what I've experienced with this color printer since it has arrived in my home office.

There are lots of comprehensive reviews on this if you want more detailed particulars, so I just want to say if you are looking for a multifunctional system, this is a great one. Simply put, it is a great price, easy to use, and compact. Perfect for a home study, small business, or college student. We use it at home for our business and are very pleased with it.

I originally purchased this AIO for my mother. She needed a printer. However, for the price I figured that the 5460 was a better deal.As has been mentioned previously, the setup was extremely easy. The only thing that I do not care for is the location of the USB port. You are forced to open the scanner lid and meander the cord through a set of curves in order to plug it in. I suppose this is to keep the cord from getting knocked loose in an office environment. This is a bit ambitious in my opinion. While the 5460 is great for a home office or for personal use, I think it would be out of its depth in a medium or larger office.After seeing how well the ADF (auto document feeder) performed, I was forced to buy one of these for myself. I previously owned a Microtek 5950 with ADF. The ADF went dead after a year and the full unit costs around 175. For roughly $100 (I bought the 5460 with a rebate), I can get an ADF, Fax, Copier, and Printer. This wasn't a hard choice to make.I almost forgot, the per page cost for ink are cheap. At least the per page cost for ink appears to be cheaper than the HP models that I researched. This is according to the info that I've read. I haven't printed enough pages to determine if this is true.The color quality of the scans appears to be a tiny off with photos. But in all honesty, I haven't scanned many pictures. This might be my doing. Or they may be some sort of adjustment that I can make with the settings. I have scanned roughly 200 pages of documents, and they look perfect. For my needs, this machines is a great fit.The print quality is typical for any inkjet printer in this price range.Print speed is acceptable as well. I must saw however, that I haven't been able to achieve the same print speeds listed in the Specs.I wasn't going to mention this, but this machine is also easy to use. Easy in that there are Scan, Copy, Fax, and Photo Capture buttons on the front of this unit. I didn't think much of them at first, but I have found that I've been using these buttons instead of the software utility that came with the 5460.The bottom line is that the 5460 can be beaten in output quality (scan and print). There are better scanners, better printers, and better copiers. However, for the price I haven't seen a better deal.

Brother MFC-465cn Color Inkjet Multi-Fucntion Center with NetworkingI just hooked my new MFC-465cn up and ran it through all the features. You need to be sure to get the paper into the ADF "just right" or it won't feed. If it does feed, it seems to be fast enough. I printed a color photo (on plain paper) and that came out satisfactorily, albiet a little slower than expected. Copying and faxing is fine. Just one real problem I can see at this early stage .... there's no way to print a SINGLE envelope without having to remove the paper tray, put in an envelope, adjust the guides, print the envelope, then take the paper tray out again readjust the guides and reload the paper. Not very practical. I'll keep it for a week or two, but if I don't find the features to be better/faster than my old HP Officejet 7110 (which is quite a bid louder and definitely bigger), I just may take it back. I also haven't connected my other computers to it yet, so don't know how that's going to work out.

I must have gotten a great deal on this printer, because after I received it, Amazon's price was higher than what I paid Amazon for it. Either way, its a very good printer and much better than the 560cn I had before this one. It is quick to start printing and the color is very good. I needed this multi-function printer for the wired ethernet. I believe there are printers with WIFI built in, but not in this price range. I would definitely recommend this printer.

There is a metal bar right across the middle under the glass that makes scanning impossible. None of the documents tell me how to move it. Any ideas? Otherwise it's pointless.

This is the first time I have purchased a Brother printer. We have been using HP printers in the past. All in all, the printer is sufficient for our needs. It is very easy to hook up as a network printer. We can now print from our two desktop computers and wirelessly from our laptop. The print quality is okay but I would say that the color printing needs improvement. It is not a real fast printer (especially the first page) but it's good enough for our needs. The fax machine also works well. I have our phone answering machine hooked up with it. I still need to learn how to make the fax-receiving feature work better. When it tries to receive, the phone answering machine starts it's message and then the 5460 starts to receive the fax. I'm hoping to get it to receive the fax without our phone answering machine starting up.

Excellent printer, scanner, copier for the price. Ink cartridges are easy to replace, are cheaper than most brands and aftermarket ones are available for this model. Footprint is smaller than many multi-function printers, which is a plus if you have limited space. I would recommend to family or friends.

In case you don't believe the rest of the reviewers, this printer is HORRENDOUS!!!! Brother has done a great job at creating a scam with their ink cartridges. Hopefully, people have caught on and have decided to ditch this piece of JUNK! My ink cartridges were still semi full when the printer prompted me to change cartridges...like an idiot and because I needed to print, I went to the store and bought cartridges for $50! Way overpriced for the print quality you get from Brother. Shame on Brother for scamming consumers and making such a lousy printer. They may have scammed us once but Brother has shot themselves in the foot by losing many customers. I will never buy any other Brother brand product. Brother has no idea what relationship marketing is, it seems obvious they are just after making the one transaction and not about keeping their customers happy. I bought this because it had a pretty good rebate...a year ago I only paid about $80, still way too much money for this piece of CRAP! So to all looking to purchasing a printer, stick to HP, at least they don't scam you as much with their ink cartridges!

Your satisfaction depends on what you want. Print quality is not the best, so don't plan on using this for photos, etc. According to Consumer Reports, this is on the higher end for cost per page, that is, the $ for cartridges. On the plus side, this is small. I like my desk space, and both the output and input printer trays are contained inside the printer. I've had zero problems with the scanner, and the 5-in-1 card reader is great. A LOT in a compact package. I just bought a Canon PIXMA MP160 and am disappointed at how much space it takes up, and no fax or card reader.

I had nothing but good things to say about this printer. But wouldn't ya know it. Almost 1 yr to the day I bought it and now it constantly jams, misfeeds or spews out crep. The only reason I'd give it 3 stars is because it lasted pretty well the 1st yr. Now, I'm fed up. DH is gonna hit the roof when I tell him we have to buy yet another printer/all-in-one. I can't say I'm too sad because the cartridges are pretty expensive. Many stores that take old cartridges won't give you credit for Brother replacements. Walgreens won't refill Brothers either. Egads!!! Back to Canon, I guess. Epson bites too.Isn't it ironic that most printers live just past their warranty? It's a conspiracy, I tell ya!

OK-So I actually based my decision to purchase this MFC printer on reviews I found on this site. I found it quite easy to set up and my Vista program had no trouble connecting. The issue I have with it is the color quality. All the reviews I read said the print and color quality was very good to excellent. My color appears washed out aqnd the blues are practically non existant. I've tried to print images with vibrant blues and purples that have come out muddy browns and greens. The reds and yellows have appeared as washed out and faded. I haven't performed any in depth trouble shooting yet, and it may be an adjustable problem. But, I am rather disappointed to date.

If you need a good inexpensive inkjet printer with a network interface its not a bad choice. The printer is good quality but slow. HP printers are much faster but had issues with their software. the Brother software used to get the printer setup on my network was flawless. The answering machine function sound quality is good, but has many quirks. If the ans machine picks up and you pick up a handset after it, you can't shut off the ans machine recording your voice! Just Dumb. The remote pickup function menu structure is incomprehensible and I'm tech savvy! Don't plan on using the answering machine. The phone in it is useable although the case of the handset is sensitive to vibration that you will hear in the sidetone.

I purchased the MFC-210C on clearance for approx. $50 almost 2 years ago (Jan 2005) and have been very well pleased. All I really needed was a color scanner (to replace an old PaperPort single sheet black & white scanner) that would work with PaperPort software. I already have access to a laser printer so the printer function was a bonus. I read before I bought it that ink was more reasonable for this printer than for many other inkjets and I've found that to be true. Yesterday I installed the 3rd black and Cyan cartridges (22 months since printer setup) and it still has 30% left in the other 2 cartridges, which are only the 2nd ones in this printer's life. You can buy 8 cartridges on eBay for under $20. If you're a light printer user, the ink cost will be under $20/yr, which is not out of line for an inkjet printer. When it says the ink is empty, the cartridge still has quite a bit of visible ink left. However, it's not worth damaging the print head to save 25 cents worth of ink. Besides, the cartridge was 10 months old, which is well beyond the 6 month ink expiration date, which applies to most or all ink jet printers.

This is a good multifunction device. Although the "supposed" flaw that it can't print when a tank of ink is out is true, most color inkjets do this nowadays! So buy a set ahead of time. This is one of those RARE printers that can take aftermarket ink, as low as $2.50/tank. Why argue about ink cost? And for those who complain about no USB cable-- printers don't include that. Why get a new one every printer you buy?That aside, the device works well. The copy function is excellent, even on plain paper, and makes B&W or color copies. Software includes PaperPort. In a few minutes, we were using MS Fax (incl. in Win. XP). Setup/tank pressurizing takes about 5 minutes. DON'T plug it into the computer until the software asks for it. Other than that, a breeze to use. I installed this for an 80+ year old couple who are tickled.

I bought this machine without first checking the customer rating it had; big mistake. Mine CONSTANTLY experiences paper jams, mis-feeds, partial prints (for some reason), all of which have caused me to consume, WASTE, a ton of ink and paper. It spends 4 minutes cleaning itself each time I turn it on. It is very slow to receive data from my Mac and stops printing two or three lines into a page for some reason. And let's not forget the ink! THIS MACHINE IS VERY COSTLY TO OPERATE! I suppose if mine didn't jam all the time wasting so much paper, and ink I might not feel this way. Oh, did I mention the error message I get each time I plug it into my laptop; not even the Mac store can get it to go away without rebooting.The thing is a mess and was a total waste of my money. And I can't even throw it away; it's electronic! And it's going straight to the dump!

when 1 color ink needs replacing , machine will not allow you to fax or scan or do anything, even though neither fax nor scan requires ink;i use machine for about 5 copies a month , but ink will dry in about 3 months, even with such minimal usage!ink is about 15 bucks per color, times 4 colors, which equals about 60 bucks, of using about 15 to 30 copies in 3 months.4 by 6 foto paper will not feed [ jam ] after about 100 pictures.BUY ANOTHER BRAND.///////

Coming up on 3 years with this printer and could not be more pleased. First of all, it produces quality results on text and photos, all at a very fast rate. I use the copier function daily, fax somewhat less frequently. Not one minute of trouble, no paper jams, and the 210C using ink sparingly. When ink runs low, you can just re-insert and set the ink level to full, so you can squeeze out every bit of ink!Now here's the best part: it shares a single phone line for faxing; and is fully compatible with cable modem telephone systems, along with a CID (caller ID) display. Need more reason to love this printer? It is compatible with MAC, Windows XP and Windows Vista! Compact, quiet, and cheap inks (compatible ink cartridges work great)round out the deal. Here is a well-designed flatbed printer, no-nonsense with no sheet feeder to jam. Cost of ownership is well below other all-in-one devices.The Brother MFC-210C is a top pick among all-in-one machines!

This is my second Brother product and I am extremely happy with both, this one in particular. The fax works as it should, hooked up to a shared line, the network setup was simple, print quality is great, the message center also works as it should. I haven't checked out the photo capabilities as this machine is being used in my home office - photo is not important to me on this one.I have three machines connected to it, a desktop XP through ethernet, and two notebooks, wireless, one XP, one Vista.I also like the fact that there are generic ink cartridges available for this machine. I was looking at the canon MX700 and HP C7280 as well but each of those seem to have some issues.For a comprehensive review read the first (excellent) review of this machine. I can't add much to that, except to agree that it is a great product, perfect for my needs.My last comment is on the LCD screen, the photo's don't do it justice. It is really a nice feature.

This is an excellent product if you have a Brother Multifunction printer with a built in digital answering machine. Its light easy to read and backlit. It uses an easy to replace battery thats is ubiquitous. You can find the battery just about anywhere. Sound quality is excellent. I use the MFC-845CW. Its not that the phone is superior to other 5.8 digital phones its the integration with the printer machines. If you don't own a brother multifunction machine than go with the panasonic phones. I own both. The panasonics battery is more difficullt to find.

I am far from a computer expert.Thus,when I read some negative reviews on other Brother all-in-one printers (virtually none being available for this exact model),it was with great trepidation that I decided to purchase it. I had concerns that I would not be able to connect everything properly or install the software correctly. Much to my surprise, it was easy. Some reviewers on other Brother models had indicated that customer service was poor. I found it to be excellent with the one small problem I encountered with the black print quality. The Brother representative talked me through some diagnostic steps and in short time had corrected the problem.I have had the unit for over a week and very pleased with all 4 functions. It is especially satisfying to have cleared desk space by eliminating my old stand alone fax machine and no longer having to use it as a third rate copier.

I used to use a Brother MFC-3240C, which is an excellent all-in-one, but due to the fact that the 3240C used the Super G3 fax protocol, I couldn't use it to fax with my VoIP Internet Phone service. I needed one that uses the regular G3 fax protocol. I also wanted to upgrade to an all-in-one with a flatbed.I originally went with an HP OfficeJet 6210 because it was on sale and I thought HP had a pretty good reputation. I was quickly disappointed by its performance. The scan speed on that thing was slow (about 45 seconds for 1 page at 200dpi), and the ADF made a huge noise ejecting each sheet of paper. After using my Brother MFC-3240 which scanned very fast, about 20 seconds per page, this was painful. I was not impressed with the scanning capabilities at all. The quality of the scanned images were also quite sub-par. I also ran into some technical problems with it running on Windows Vista, which HP proudly claims on their site that this the OfficeJet 6210 was "Certified for Windows Vista". Their technical support, however, said otherwise and that I should wait until their official software is available for Vista... ETA unknown.I quickly returned the OfficeJet and decided to get the Brother MFC-440CN. It has all the features I'm looking for... an ADF with a flatbed scanner and a fax that was using the standard G3 protocol. First off, I love the color LCD screen. Besides the fact that it's pretty, it makes navigating through menus much easier. The scanner is much faster too... about 20 seconds per page just like the MFC-3240C. The ADF is also much quieter than the HP OfficeJet. Scan quality is great... good enough for document archiving. I wouldn't use it to scan high-res photos though.Faxing over VoIP works perfectly, which I'm very happy about.All in all, I'm extremely happy with the MFC-440CN! If you're debating whether to get this or an HP OfficeJet, I definitely recommend the MFC-440CN.

The Brother MFC 885CW works perfect with all it's systems except it conflicts with my answering device that is seperate from the MFC 885CW. The tone of the answering device activates the fax ringing and therefore the messages left are mixed into the ringing.

I bought this printer and it worked great for 6 months. Then, the printer returned an error. I called Brother and they did troubleshooting over the phone. After they could not resolve the error, they told me to take the printer to an authorized repair dealer. The repair dealers are very limited and I had to drive about an hour to get to one. After making three trips (because the first time I tried to pick it up the dealer would not release it), the dealer told me he could not fix the machine. Then, I tried to return the printer to BestBuy where I purchased the printer. BestBuy told me that they could not fix the printer and would not exchange it. They told me I had to contact Brother to get a replacement printer. Brother's phone customer service hours are very limited. I tried emailing back and forth several times, but I kept getting the response that I had to call and talk directly with a rep, with the printer in front of me, so I could not do this from work. By the time I finally was able to speak to a rep at Brother, the 12 month warranty period had passed. Even though I had documentation showing that the problem occurred after 6 months, Brother refuses to replace it now. I asked to speak with a manager and was told that managers were not available. I asked to hold and Sarah empl 1237 told me that she was not allowed to put me on hold and that the best she could promise me was a call back within 24 hours. She would not give me her last name. SPARE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND WASTED TIME - DO NOT BUY FROM BROTHER!!! IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG, BROTHER WILL NOT STAND BEHIND ITS PRODUCTS!!!!

I would recommend this printer to everyone. With the phone all-in-one idea, no space has to be allocated for a seperate phone which would even further clutter up a workspace. The printer is fast. The ink compartment is ideally placed for easy swap-out of cartridges. The paper tray with the cover on it, has to be pulled out so far and then does not hold a large quantity of paper. Also, if you subscribe to a distinctive ring package through your phone provider, cancel it. With this printer, it conflicts and offers it's own ring package. NIOCE Save me $4 a month on my phone bill!! Nice going Brother.

A money pit is right! This printer just isn't worth it. There were at least 3 times where I bought ink and even though I only used the printer 3 or 4 times over the course of 4 or 5 months, the ink was gone and I'd have to buy refills again! It appears the ink must be allowed to evaporate somehow, and furthermore if you run out of one color the whole printer is useless until you refil it! Regardless of whether you're printing in B&W!Don't waste your money on this; there are much better printers out there.

Bought this printer this weekend without much research, for $80 - figured you can't go too wrong for the price, so bought it. The unit is very well built and attractive. Set-up was very simple and quick, had it unboxed and working with 3 computers on my network in around 30 minutes. I've never had that easy of an install - kudos to Brother. Haven't done much printing yet, but the few photos and docs I printed turned out very nice with decent speed. Also scanned a few photos to different computers on the wireless network. It would have been nice if they had included a USB cable and/or ethernet cable, but I had those around the house so no big deal. I am very pleased with this printer, especially for the price.

I got this for about 80 dollars and it worked well for a couple years but now it can't even read that there is a cartridge in it. I have used all Brother cartridges and I still have problems with it. I hate that it has 3 separate color cartridges. Ink is expensive. I was happy with it but now I just want to throw it out the window but I believe in recycling. I think I'll just stick to the Partner Stores at rieseninternationdotcom. They have over 700 Partner Stores such as Circuit City, Office Depot, Shop, etc and they give incentives if you go through them. They also carry exclusive products as well.

I purchased the Brother MFC-440cn with high hopes after reading several positive reviews. Unfortunately, I have been extremely disappointed with the purchase.The print quality is only mediocre, even on the "best" settings. The paper handling is awkward and inefficient. The default print settings are nearly impossible to locate and change. Most disappointing of all is the fact that the printer makes it nearly impossible to duplex print. It provides no support or assistance for manual duplexing and because the tray is awkward and hard to get to, it is more trouble than it is worth.I tried to write Brother to get help with some of the problems I have had with the printer only to discover that the customer service is atrocious: rude, impersonal, and unhelpful.The printer isn't all bad: The networking is easy to set up and generally works well. There's a lot of features for what you pay; it's just too bad those features are so poorly executed.Don't make the same mistake I did. I was seduced by thinking I was getting a great value because of the wide feature set and low price. Unfortunately, the negatives far outweigh the positives, and this product is definitely not a "great value."I miss my super-cheap 5-year-old Canon printer. It was light years ahead of this machine.

This printer has caused me much aggravation. It worked ok for about a year. Now I am constantly getting errors. I was hoping this would last longer than a year. I would not recommend buying this printer.
