My parents live 900 miles from me and they rarely get to see their 2 grandchildren. So, I decided to get this camera hoping that it would work well with my laptop and use skype. Picture wise, it is great. Everyone seems happy on the other end with the picture. The problem comes when you move the computer. Because the mount just allows it to balance on the top, it has a tendency to topple or at the very least move off center. It is flexible so there are a number of things that can be done to make it work but none of them prevent it from being real loose.

Bought 3 of these to SKYPE with family back east. For what I wanted, I could not have chosen a better cam. I am not video blogging or recording home movies of any type so the built in microphone is fine. Video quality is great! Glad I chose this one!

This camera has serious flaws: the software that came with it crashed my computer (running with Windows 7) and also my laptop (running with XP), therefore I realized the problem is in the software, not on my computers. So I uninstalled it and the camera is running without its original software, thus disabling any special functions it might have; also, and the worst of all, the auto-focus doesn't work properly, it's constantly refocusing and can't hold focus. I bought another Microsoft camera below this model which works just fine and it was much cheaper. I want to believe the problem resides on this particular camera and not in all the models, but it is not reasonable to sell a camera that might present such kind of troubles. Not at this price, at least. Try something else.

I have the blue model and love it. My only gripe is not enough people currently use webcams to communicate but at these prices, you can probably buy two so you and your distant friend or family member can enjoy some face time.The picture is very clear even in low light. There's a setting that completely gets rid of the video lag people have complained about: under "Camera Control" be sure to uncheck the box labeled "Low Light Compensation." Doing so immediately bumps up the frame rate to eliminate the lag and it really doesn't detract too much from the low light sensitivity.This webcam works flawlessly with Google Talk (the web page version), Windows Messenger and Skype. I had a little trouble with Yahoo Messenger but figured out it's just the way Yahoo wants you to work with the camera. If your computer didn't come with a webcam, this is an inexpensive way to add some fun to your chat life. Don't bother spending more money for HD webcams unless you absolutely must have extreme clarity. This little webcam will more than meet most people's needs.

I bought this product: MS LifeCam a little over a month ago. I made a video and there was this buzzing sound. After looking into it and various forums, found that there are many people who bought it with the same problem. There's a site that shows how to disassemble it and to move the metal surrounding the mic to solve the buzzing sound!I do not recommend tampering with it; I recommend buying a different product until MS makes it right.

We LOVE our Microsoft XV5000 webcam!!! First,the price was great second, it came very Quickly Third all I had to do was plug it in, the computer recognised it and I started using it.When I ordered it I went right in and Downloaded Skype and familiarized myself with it while I was waiting for my camera to arrive.Skype is really great too and I highly recommend it.I did download the software that came with my webcam after a few days of using it. It consists of extra effects like funny faces wigs and silly hats, which we have had some fun with also. But all in all these were not nessesary to run the webcam. My computer has Windows 7 Home Premium. My daughter has a different version of Windows and an Older computer so, set up for her was a little more complicated but she said it was still relatively simple.If you are a Parent or Grandparent and you want to see your families smiling faces this is the camera for you!The price makes it possible that you can buy one for everyone!(My other daughter just got a computer and I'm buying her one Too!SOOOO EASY!!! I would have done a Video review but, I'm having a Bad Hair Day!

Work well. The picture looks great. Mic is workable for video chat. I wish the cord is a little longer. Other than that, no complain.

Length:: 1:46 MinsI really like this camera. You can play my review as recorded on the unit itself.A couple of other things I didn't mention. It has a built-in microphone, and records very good sound quality, as you'll hear if you play the video.There's quite a bit of included software, including some that allows you to perform basic video editing on your footage.You can also download directly to YouTube, Twitter, and other sites and apps.Download and installation was flawless, and I run Win 7 64-bit (I noticed in some reviews that others running that OS seemed to have problems; I didn't).All in all, 5 stars.

This cam is amazing. Works well with Vista, and even though there's no support for XP 64-bit version, it will plug-n-play with yahoo messenger (however I cannot get it to work properly with msn messenger). Very satisfied with my purchase.

Not sure what the other reviewers are saying, but I installed the software successfully on couple of my 64-bit Windows 7 laptops by visiting Microsoft's hardware site.Also installed Windows Live Essentials 2011 that includes Windows Live Messenger and other stuff (Live Mail client app, Live Photo Gallery, Live Movie Maker, etc).Webcam was very economical, and provides awesome pictures and hd video after turning off auto-focus feature (by going into settings and disabling TrueColor).I am pretty happy with the product, and hope others will provide an accurate review of this product.

I bought this to use it for video chatting with my girlfriend... it is SO MUCH worse than her standard cam installed in her macbook. when people say its fuzzy in "low light" it means basically anytime your room isn't the brightest it can possibly be. At night time you will have to shine a desk lamp directly at the camera in order to have decent video quality. Do not buy it. Save your money and buy something cheaper because this will be a waste of your money.

I bought this for a friend and installed it for her which was very easy! We tested it out and the video quality is fantastic and the auto focus is amazing! Very good quality for a pretty great price!

This is my first webcam purchase, primarily to use with Skype. I ordered it from another seller on Amazon; received it within days. Installation was a breeze on Windows XP-SP2. Remember to shut down all programs, install the software first, then attach the webcam. Since I don't do live chat, I chose to not install the Windows Live Messenger. Another reviewer stated this was not an option in her software, but it was in mine. The cam sits quite comfortably on top of my flatscreen and has a really good wide angle lens; easy for the whole family to fit in. When you get it installed, there are some adjustments that may be needed on your Skype browser (tools/options/video-audio settings). Receivers have told me that video quality is crisp. I've had good audio, as well as experiencing an echo on some days, especially weekends; the echo is probably due to my FIOS speed at that particular time. All in all, this is a good little cam, and the thrill of having your far-away friends and relatives right there with you, can't be beat.

I own many of web cameras. This has replaced all of them. Not that is was perfect. I had to turn the auto focus off. Microsoft did its standard things, like wanting you to use its software instead of independent applications - so that was a hastle. However the image and sound quality was much better than the Logitechs I've used that the LifeCam has replaced them all. Stellar overall performance, image quality and special effects. I like the clips from the LifeCam as much as from my Flip.

Let me start off by saying this is my first webcam and I have never been a fan of Microsoft products, but this is a good buy.I originally bought a Gearhead Pro cam for $20 and was very dissapointed in the quality but thought, "for 20 bucks,what did I expect?" Took it back the next day. Was only going to spend ~$30-$40 because I just wanted somthing to video chat with. Found the vx-5000 on sale at a local office supply for $15..(ended up buying two). I gave one to my Dad and we were up and chatting on skype in less than 20 minutes.This certainly is not the best camera out there, but was easy to install and has great image quality. Very pleased, if I had bought for $25 I still would have been happy, for the price I got them, they can't be beat.

Constant auto focus changes. Constant light changes. Just not what you'd expect from Microsoft. I do not recommend it.

This product is really good looking. But after hours installing the software, it still will not work on 720P mode. I update the software to Lifecam 3.5, but still it will not work. Indeed, it could work even without installing the software, but what about the 720P HD widescreen and Truecolor? "Good Job!" Microsoft,again!

I got this little webcam a year or so ago and it's been a nice addition to my computer hardware setup. Picture quality is really good! For the price, this thing is a steal.
