I had borrowed a Microsoft webcam to see how I liked it to be able to SKYPE my niece who left for college and friends across country. I liked it so I bought my own on Amazon. Easy installation-i'm really not tech savvy but had no problems with installation. Picture quality is great and sound is fine. Perfect for my uses.For Christmas I purchased a Kodak webcam for a gift-Black Friday special. When we SKYPED the other night I was very disappointed in the picture quality of the Kodak camera-Microsoft is much, much better.Wish I had purchased Microsoft as gift. Great camera at a great price.

Microsoft's LifeCam VX-5000 is a good all around webcam at a reasonable price. While some of the features are improvements, this is not the highest end model you can get and not even the top of the line in Microsoft's line-up. You may have to do some more research and demanding users will want to step up. But for those that are looking for the best bang for their buck, this model should definitely be in the running.Pros+ Good Price for basic webcam+ The flexible base is probably the best design out there for working with a variety of monitors, including laptops, flat screens and traditional monitors+ The included software is very easy for non-techies to install and configure using simple buttons+ Ability to zoom, pan and tilt are nice, though now standard, extras+ Easy settings also allow for easy video effects+ Advanced features are just a click away, allowing customized settings+ For those who want to do IM and chat, this seems to be tightly integrated with those applications and Windows Live+ Integrated Microphone is a nice feature and one less thing for your desk+ Nice indicator light alerts you to when webcam is capturing+ The options to take a snapshot, record video or record sound are nice and useful for basic multimedia stuff+ Nice range of model accent colors: i.e. Blue, Green and RedCons- Video quality perhaps not good enough for professional (work) use yet- The video capture (listed at 30 frames per second) still seems to perform too slowly to capture fast movement (try waving your hand)- The microphone sensitivity is average and the camera must be directed at you for it to capture sound adequately- The highly touted low light performance and auto-adjustment works slowly and not as well as the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000- The software installation includes too much scumware, adware and software for chatting and other things you may not want; just more stuff to remove- The 640 X 480 video resolution does not easily scale to full screen and won't satisfy demanding usersComparing Against The AlternativesYep, despite some strong points, this guy still has a lot of cons. If you are a basic user many of those cons will be irrelevant in light of the excellent price. Most of my main points are highlighted in the pros and cons. But there are a few points that need emphasis.The Microsoft LifeCam VX-7000 offers a *true* 2.0 megapixel sensor, while this guy only gives you 1.3 megapixels, and those are interpolated which basically means they are not based on the direct sensor but are *enhanced* from the VGA resolution that is captured by the camera. So one would expect the VX7000 to capture video better. Similarly, the Microsoft LifeCam NX-6000 captures high definition video at twice the video resolution. Either of those might be options, but each at slightly higher price tags.If you really want a very clear picture and don't mind spending twice as much, then the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 is worth looking into. It definitely has a better auto-adjustment feature than the VX-5000 and also sports Zeiss optics for those that are into that. The Logitech QuickCam Orbit AF is another high end camera that also has some auto-focus features at a higher price tag, around $100. Do your research depending upon your needs.While it's not really a con, all three versions of the VX-5000 camera that I've seen look black. The accent color is not very noticeable. So my advice is to just get the cheapest one. They are selling at different prices and the prices fluctuate so you will definitely want to watch them carefully.If you need an inexpensive webcam and don't need high definition video, this unit is one of the best options. More demanding users should step up to higher end Logitech and Creative units.Enjoy!

Bought this camera for Video confrencing on Skype. So far it's pretty good. I have it on a 2.4 Ghz intel with 2gb memory running WinXP Pro Sp3.The picture quality is very good. The auto focus is a little flaky at times but a nice feature. I like the ablity to zoom in and out so others can only see what I want them to see. I zoom in and cut the field of view so they don't see my whole office but I can zoom out so they can see several persons if needed.The microphone was pretty good.Overall I am please with this purchase and for the price it was a very good deal.

Compact cam with clip for mounting on Notebook only, not applicable to attachment to LCD Monitors without making custom adjustment.Pros: nice defination compared to other cam in same dollar range. Clarity seemed fine but I'm not sure it is 720p quality.Con: Cord is too short for PC, but ok for laptop. Auto Focus keeps on adjusting while viewing cam, stops if you don't nove. Also there is no off preference for the auto focus.

While the camera was sleek looking, it failed to provide good video. It kept going green and full of black lines. Ugh, very frustrating. If I unplugged it from the side of my computer and then replugged it, it would work again for a few minutes and then go out again. Had to return it.

I bought one of this in order to video-chat with my girlfriend who was in another city.I love this wide angle webcam, I Love its picture quality and I love the program that came with it, that permit set any things as the focus (automatic o fix at various levels)I bought it directly to amazon who has it at the best price.The experience using this webcam was so good, that I bought another one more and sent it to my girlfriend!!

this is a really great cam. It beats the heck out of my old logitec quick cam. Its very small and will sit on top of your monitor. The only thing i don't really like about it is the included microphone. Although the mic works great, I prefer to use a headset mic. That's just me. This cam is really a great value in my opinion.

This web cam is cheaper than any place I could find. Review are excellent and amazon gives free delivery. How could you go wrong? Easy to install: only minutes. I use it for skype and talking to my friends in another state with this webcam is as though I was right there. Microsoft makes great products but amazon make it afforable.

Easy to install... no issues. Includes more software than you will likely use. The image is clear and the sound is good. The autofocus feature is great for initially setting up a video conversation but is slow when say, trying to switch to showing another object up close. It is a good buy... as many web cameras with these features run somewhat higher. Not the best... but just fine for most users. Best Wishes...

I used the webcam with a laptop running Windows XP. That laptop did not have a webcam. I didn't have any of the problems with autofocus, and I'm not sure why, maybe I wasn't looking for them. I used the camers with skype, and to make a video message. Everything worked. We will be giving the laptop to my daughter since we snagged a new Toshiba from Amazon on Black Friday, and this camera will be going with that laptop since it does not have a camera or a built in mic.The camera just works well, at least for me in my environment. I thought the flexible mount made it easy to use anywhere, although it worked slightly better on a table than on the back of a laptop because it dislodged when the laptop was moved.

I pulled it out of the box, plugged it in and installed the software in less than 15 minutes flat. I have no issues with compatibility with Vista...which is surprising to me because I've had them before. Thanks Microsoft for being compatible and easy to install!My husband and I had a blast playing with all of the screen shot features that allow you to add funny objects into the screen, alongside the picture. The objects somehow will attach themselves to your face to make you appear to be a monster or a pink haired rockstar girl or appear to have a small nose etc. These features caused us to spend about an hour or more trying things and giggling hysterically.The camera does not interupt one's ability to do other functions on the computer at the same time. I give it two thumbs up for ease of use. It simply does what you need a camera to do. I experienced no freezing, no issues whatsoever. Love it.

I use Skype a lot especially when my daughter is away, my son suggested a webcam. It was the best decision I ever made. The product was very easy to install and I did not need a microphone because it had one built in, I would recommend this product to everyone.

I bought this camera for my sister so we could skype. I thought the auto focus would be a nice feature but it turns out that it is always trying to adjust itself. It gets really annoying to see her go in and out of focus all the time. A brighter lit room did help this problem a little bit but it still happened. The video quality is great for the price and I helped my sister walk through the installation in just about 10 minutes. Not bad but I think the step down without the auto focus is very similar in features and cost about 15 bucks less so it may be a better buy overall. Personal choice high def and focus problems or lower def and no focus problems.

I had this camera for a week, used it 3 times and it stopped working. Did not do anything to it, just used it, put it on top of a dresser, next time I went to use it, it stopped getting power. I plugged it into a friends computer to make sure it wasn't just my USB port (I tried all of them on mine too) and it still didn't work. Needless to say, I was a little upset about spending 45 dollars on this thing and having it stop working for no apparent reason. I don't know, I guess it must of just been a faulty camera, but I would hate for anyone else to waste the money I did and have the same thing happen to them.

This is a really good product. Is it the best? Dont know. But I am very please with the ease of stting it up and my daughter is the primary user. She has not complaints. Seems to give a better picture than others we are communicating with (mostly family). Again, easy to install and good quality item at a fair price. Dont think I need anything better unless it was for work but this would probably still suffice. I dont see anyone going worng with this.

Camera works well, but Microsoft's firmware hasn't been updated since 8/24/2010. The autofocus works well, but autofocuses every 15 seconds and is EXTREMELY annoying. You can disable the autofocus feature in the software settings, but the application won't remember that you shut it off. Also the application appears to have an occasional memory leak slowing the entire system down to a crawl thus cutting web applications after 10-15 minute video calls. I experienced this crawl with gmail video (on both firefox and IE) and VSee.

The HD-6000 is a great little webcam. Although the box does not have the Skype logo, the webcam works perfectly with Skype. From the US I communicate with a collegue in Germany. The picture sharp and sound was great. It even comes with a soft carrying pouch. I would not necessarily recommend it for desktop monitors as they may be a little too thick for the webcam's clip. It is more designed for the thin laptop or netbook screen.

The camera has good light sensitivity, and the program that comes with it allows plenty of fancy effects. On the other hand, its support doesn't let the camera stable on the laptop.

Sure, it's meant to be PnP (plug and play), but even I was surprised with the lack of documentation that comes with this entry level webcam.And as far as entry level webcams go, for this price point, you really can't go wrong with this pick.Straight out of the box, the contents are three: 1) Camera, 2) ver 2.0 software on CD, and finally, 3) little quad-fold english/spanish intruction sheet. Really? A small plug and play instruction sheet? Yup, that's it. Not that I'm a huge fan of overly complicated and awe inspiring manuals, but for the juggernaut that is MS, I was a but dissapointed with the lack of a written manual. It seems on something like this, it would be a no brainer to include even an abbreviated manual for non-techies to understand how to operate once installed. No, you're on your own by visiting the MS web page and sifting through thier documents.Also, out of the box I recommend, (like another user suggested), to go straight to the support site and download the newer software and not even use the enclosed disc. It ships with v2.0 software, but as of my writing 2.04 is available.The camera itself is pretty impressive. In my office, the picture looks good under low light conditions, it's picture clear, the built in mic does it's job once configured (an important step you should not skip). The base, while a nice idea, isn't as robust and sturdy as the box copy proclaims, but adequate enough to do the job. Some may find themselves using a piece of tape or other weighted object to keep it still....a clamp option would have been nice.But the reason I'm knocking this down a star is based on the lack-luster descriptions and "how-to's" for the software. Once you download and get the camera operational, again, you're on your own to figure out how to record, what your effects options are, what file extensions are used and default storage. For intermediate and advanced users, this may seem like a no brainer or intuitive, but for beginners....you can feel a bit lost. It's as if if MS says "Here you are...here's your webcam" and walks away.Some of the bundled software or apps you can optionally load seem like aesthetic window dressing...for fun...Take effects for example: There are plenty of cool effects, but some are pretty lame, and the icons really don't help explain what they are until you click and discover for yourself. Some nice toys to play with, but they lose their novelty value fast.I was really hoping for some documenation or pointers on video blogging, atleast the basics...but again...you're on your own. Looks like I'll be printing out or buying additional manuals later, but what do you expect from a sub $30 price point? A little more consideration to the entry level user would have easily given this 5 stars. Overall a good camera in a sea of over-priced mediocre ones.

Since we bought the camera to use it for skype connection we always have trouble with it. It works for 1 week and next week it just stop working. We contacted Microsoft support team who tried to help but then they told us the camera might not be compatible with our computer (PC XP). Returning the camera
