Pros:Plugged into MacBook Pro and works without any configuration with Skype, iChat, EvoCam, QuickTime Pro and possibly iMovie.Nice compact design.Flexible, rubber-coated base adapts well enough to any situation.Nice long cable allows for pointing it around the office or out of the window.Cons:Too light sensitive in a bright room or if person faces a window.This results in shiny spots on face, purple fringing and washed out areas.It's like overusing the Shadows and Highlights Filter or the Posterize Filter in Photoshop.This cannot be adjusted even with iGlasses, which is a software to tweak webcam settings within OS X.The cable appears to thick and uneven for the wires inside.Another drawback, although most webcam may have this fault is that you cannot focus closer than ~20cm. It really would be nice to have a manual adjustable lens, so one can show small items or document text.Overall a decent camera, except for the overexposure issue.Although the resolution of 1.3MP seems to be the same as the build-in iSight it cannot match the picture quality of the iSight because of overexposure. (May be a problem on the Mac only)Would buy it on sale again, but keep on looking for a simple webcam that can deliver on image quality.

Pros:-Great quality for the $-Perfectly compatible and easy to use with Skype-Plug and play compatible installation for VistaCons:-Base, while easy to flex and attach/stand, is not easy to create a desired tilt/angle-Software is not installation friendlyVerdict:For $28, this is an impressive unit. The picture quality is surprisingly good for this price and functions well even in low light. Recommended.

The Life cam was a very good purchase. I use it almost everyday and it has been flawless. The resolution is good and the built in mic is also very good. The person on the other end can hear me clearly. I highly recommend this product. I needed this life cam right away or else it could be bought at half the price with the back to school sales. I only had a problem once when I updated the software to the latest update from microsoft and the video stopped working. So I unistalled the software and reinstalled and it has been working fine ever since.

Great camera, great price, the picture quality is really good with exceptional quality in low-light conditions. It works fine with Skype and our kids say that the voice quality is good. The picture enhancements, like the applied cowboy hat are very clever; but, don't function with Skype and are probably worthless anyway. You can capture a still picture of yourself with any of the enhancements and save it. So, I guess it might be amusing for kindergarten crowd.

My hope for a webcam is that it works well without me having to think about it. I don't have a webcam to enjoy the intricacies of gadgets and software. I have one so that I can easily stay in contact with others, and occasionally do video at my computer.Awhile back I got a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000. While it worked well, it seemed like the software was particularly bloated and I never quite felt everything was working as easy as it should. It's a good webcam, but I thought there must be something better and simpler.I got this microsoft webcam to see how it would compare. Not only is it a 1/3 of the price, it's also a 1/3 of the hassle, and has better functioning. The logitech would always take a while for face recognition. This LifeCam does not even show any lag in identifying a face. The low light ability is much better and overall I think this cheaper webcam works much better. Add the fact the LifeCam is much more flexible for a variety of computers and settings and I think my Logitech might be retired or handed off.I suspect the audio is better on the Logitech but not significantly so. I definitely recommend the LifeCam for anyone who is looking for a basic, not too many frills, webcam for general use. It is simple to use and it works as well as others I've seen.

LifeCam VX-5000 is a great little camera. As a first time user of a webcam, it was easy to install and use. For the price you can't beat it!

[...]pros:. easy pnp. great included software, specially if you want to make short movies messages or so.. easy to place any were on the lcd screen or the desk, and to move around, has a 6 ft cord. so far never had a problem with it. has a top button for snap pics,. helpful for profile poics exts,.. compatile with all video conferencing: i sue it with skipe, windows live, and other program,.. you wont have a problem using it with any program. great picture quality (1.3 mp), even in low lighting, it still amazingverdict:.overall: buy with confience will serve the purpose and is well built and nicely designedps: has different color rings around it, i bout it in blue and green, like it adds a touch of colous,.hope you will find my review helpful to make a decision

This has been a great product. Easy to install and the picture is awesome. Nice product only paid $25 used in the box but looked and works just like new. I would recommend to anyone who wants a good webcam and doesn't want to spend a lot. Good product.

the only reason its getting 2 star is because of the software. All i want was a driver and it installed soo many sht on my laptop, took about an hour & half... wtf ? it dosn even include many options, it also installed a whole a lot of crap i'll never need. Worst software ever, im never getting a ms cam again, my old logitec was so much better.

When buying a web cam that is advertised as being High Definition you expect pretty good quality. What I got was not high definition at all. Even by normal definition standards the quality was absolutely terrible.

Easy to set up and use. As others have stated, works well in low light. Video quality could be better but for price I doubt you can beat it. It has some neat features as well. I can play checkers and other games with my kids when I'm out of town. It has some funny video effects that always make my kids laugh. I'm very happy with the product and recommend it for anyone looking to keep in touch with family and friends from out of town. Sending a video e-mail was quite easy too.

I installed this on a Windows Vista 64 bit computer and it worked without any problems. I already have a camera on my computer but I didn't realize how bad it was until I used the Microsoft one. The quality is excellent and you can use it for video/audio/photo capture. You also have the option for real-time special effects so you can add snow, rain, a picture of dog etc. onto the capture. This makes it a lot of fun and good for making family videos.The LifeCam software included with the camera is easy to use. When it starts up, it looks like a TV monitor and you have the video/audio/photo capture buttons at the bottom. You press the one you want to capture. Once you've done then it gives you the option to look at (or listen to) what you captured - it couldn't be more simple! You also have the option to integrate it with Live Windows Messenger etc. if you want to do video conferencing etc.As always with this kind of hardware/software, it has it's limitations but I thought it worked well enough. The only slightly annoying problem is the camera not being able to track any movement efficiently but this is normal for this level of camera. The camera itself is well made, lightweight and neat looking.Last word is that there are better quality cameras out there (even by Microsoft) but this one is great value for the quality level you get.

It only took a few minutes to install and set up the Lifecam webcam onto my desktop. I use XP Pro. The shipping time was quite quick and everything worked as advertised. I am a happy camper!Ray

I was pretty disappointed by this webcam. It has relatively good picture quality & it's small & compact, but I spent my whole afternoon trying to install it. First of all, the CD that it came with didn't work for Vista, so I had to find drivers on the Microsoft site. Second, I don't really use MSN, so I had a huge deal of trouble using it with other non-Microsoft programs. I have to leave the camera on with whatever program I'm using; if I exit the application, I have to restart my computer again. I had a simpler Logitech camera before and it did not have this many problems. Unless you're a big fan of Microsoft video applications, I'd go with a different, more versatile webcam from a different company.

I paid about $35 for this camera - it's one of the cheapest on the market right now. The picture quality is "so-so" but the sound quality is good and it's so easy to use. Perfect for Skype, and has a very good design.Very good for the price!

Okay camera but the software installation took forever. I have no idea why, It just buzzed along for 20 minutes. So be aware that your are giving Microsoft an opportunity to get into your software libraries. If you don'e plan to use this exclusively for Microsoft Live, don't bother with this camera , get a Logitech or other legitmate camera maker.

This camera was very affordable and does exactly what I want. Like other reviews the mic isn't the best, but its not a big deal. The video quality is very good for such a simple camera. Its fun to use and I would recommend it to anyone that wants a basic, good quality web cam.

Microsoft Life Came Vx-5000 (Blue) was my first buy and i got to say i love this Came. The only down side to this is that its not compatible with some software that i use its called Came Studio (Screen recorder) the audio quality is off way off. But all in all its a great buy ^-^. I would recommend this to a friend or family member.

My family live, literally on three continents. The only way to keep in touch is using the phone or one of the VOIP services on the computer. I was skeptical about using a web cam but after some research ordered this one. It is simplicity itself to set up and rests on the top of my monitor. It has a flexible foot and does not need permanent attachment so I am able to lift it off and pan around the room with it.The set up itself is extremely simple and the picture quality is, so I am told by those who can see me, outstanding, a clear picture as though it were a full size video camera instead of something that is barely 2 inches square.I highly recommend this little magic box!

I ordered the LifeCam through Amazon. It arrived in a timely manner and was easy to install. The video cam is good quality. However, there is a difficulty of making a Skype video call. My computer continues to want to connect with "Conexant 2388x video capture" and I have to go into tools, options, video settings, and select Microsoft LifeCam Vx-5000 every time I want to have a video conversation...Very annoying. How do I get rid of Conexant and default to Microsoft? HELP!

I did a lot of research on different types of webcams. Many reviews told me to get the Logitech pro, and I almost got sucked into buying it. I'm sure it works just wonderfully but so does this camera. The picture and sound quality really shocked me because it was a lot better than I thought. Overall, get the fancy Logitech pro if you want, but this is much more affordable and works wonderfully also.

Considering what features this webcam has - or doesn't have - I would say it is a little overpriced, at least at full retail. But honestly it does the job of capturing audio and video more than acceptably. The built-in microphone is surprisingly good - the audio I recorded, just normal speaking, was free of distortion and relatively clear. Even when I tried raising my voice to a moderately loud level. The picture quality is passably good, though nothing anyone will write home about. There is a low-light feature that works very well in dark settings, which is a nice thing to have in theory. However, I didn't find that having it on or off made enough difference to get excited about it.The webcam isn't that adaptable movement-wise. Once it is mounted, you can't really adjust the thing up or down, it remains pretty stationary from what I found. That's annoying. Also there is a button on top of it that activates Windows Messenger or something, I never have any need for that so I didn't pay much attention to it. The problem is, the button is in a bad place because moving the camera will cause you to push the button accidentally much of the time!

I love this little camera! Very easily installed, very easy to use. I use mine with Skype, no problems at all.Like some other users, I am annoyed by the stupid button on top, because I never use Windows Live Messenger and yet if you accidentally press the button while adjusting the camera the window automatically pops up - but no big deal, I just close the Messenger window and life goes on. :)Only one futher complaint, and that is that the microphone can't be used separately. I study German online with Livemocha.com, and I thought I could use the microphone to record oral exercises but, alas, I cannot.All in all, though, for the price of this little guy I'd definitely buy it again. It keeps me in touch with friends around the world. :)

This webcam is exactly what I was looking for. As a college student I just needed a simple webcam to communicate with friends on other campuses and studying abroad. This product was a great buy, easy to set up, and easy to use. While I know it is intended to be used with Windows Live I have actually just been using Skype because that is the system my friends use and it's great. I would definitely recommend it.

This came in the mail the other day. Delivery time was reasonable especially when s&h was free. The price also was the best I could find anywhere. I usually buy my electronics at Tiger Direct due to their pricing, but Amazon beat them by a mile. I couldn't install the drivers from the CD that was supplied. It was taking a huge amount of time, and I'm on Cable. About 15-20 min. into the download it just stopped and the little pop-up stated the download stopped due to error. No number for the error. So, I tried again. Same thing. I went to Microsoft online and finally found the downloads for the drivers. First attempt, very slow, then error again. I went back and although I think I have a 64, I changed to 32. It took about 15 min. to download, but finally it did. Now, I just have to try to figure out how to use Skype. But, the picture it shows is really nice. I turned off the thing where it follows your face. Don't need it. It's a nice webcam,and for this price, I'd recommend it.

I opened the box and was looking at our new granddaughter within minutes from across the country. Picture is clear and there is no longer a time lapse between the words spoken and what you hear.If I have one complaint it is that the audio was not that easy to figure out. Otherwise I love it!

The LifeCam VX-5000 is amazing: very high video quality under dark lighting condition.The most impressive feature for VX-5000 comes from the special effects you can play with. The camera automatically track your face and locate key features such as eyes, mouth and nose, and then it can add special effects to your face: big eyes, big mouth, thin head etc. The effects are very cool, :)For the price (about $27), you cannot get a better deal.

I purchased this webcam based on the already glowing reviews that it received. It was inexpensive (~$30) and has an extremely clear picture. Although it looks like it is only made more laptops, you can easily adjust the rubber stand and hang it off the top a laptop, making it really versatile. Some people mentioned having difficulty installing the software which came with it, but I had no trouble at all.

This product is optimized for MS Messenger, but works with Skype, although the many special effects are not easy to access using Skype. For simple video phone conversations, it works fine.

The resolution is decent not great. Its a camera for BSing around with friends but if you want crystal clear video that is colorful this camera falls short. Also the rubber ring around the lens degrades and turns sticky. Feels like glue as it breaks down. After a few months the rubber ring really began to degrade. I became concened the residue could be toxic and alarted MSFT. MSFT gave me the run around for 3+ hours on the phone and then instead of refunding me for what I beleive is a defect in design (unvulcanized rubber after some reasearch) they had the audacity to send me used one in an opened box. This was easy to setup and so far has worked well. All technology software/hardware has it's hiccups and once it had an issue when using with Skype, but never on its own. To resolve the video issue with Skype (all settings were correct), I just had to just pull out USB from camera to computer and reinsert -- not a big deal.

The web cam is a very good buy for the price i bought it for.The clarity is good.It can be easily clipped on to the laptop.It comes with a small and a handy case so that you can carry it anywhere.But this is suitable only for laptops since the cable(USB) that connects it to the computer(laptop) is short in length.Very good for Video chat with family and friends living in the same country or abroad.

I was using a Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 cam before upgrading to this.Not a lot of innovation, but still:* A decent video quality, much better than my older one, bandwidth permitted.* Much more conveniently attaches to Laptops' screens.* Much more compact; also comes with a small, pretty hard case.* The eyelid can be closed -- and rotated vertically -- to avoid damage or dust.* Cheap (online)On the down side, Microsoft has a software, which unsurprisingly interacts well only with Messenger; it still works, of course, with others, say Skype. And their driver with mandatory software is about ~100MB and takes ages to install.
