Microsoft product made for microsoft applications. I couldn't get the zoom to work at all and couldn't get it to work with Skype after installing microsoft drivers with microsoft app. Only easy was uninstall. I went back, reinstalled and updated drivers, and it works great now and still. I really love that the lens manually pushes inside the camera to shut it off. Easy controls for the best quality image.

Okay the auto focus on this thing is possessed even when you are in focus it will keep trying to refind you! It is very annoing but you can turn it off easily. I use it for skype and youtube, alot of neat little effects you can do. To access them at any time go to the taskbar, near the clock there is an arrow click that then you will see the lifecam symbol open it, and you can change setting and use effects while in skype calls :)

very happy with this webcam, we use it as a security cam and so it records all night long. I have also used it for taking general photos with me in them that I would normally have issues with.

I have tried to use this product on 3 different usb hubs. When I plug it into the first hub, the camera is not recognized. When I use the second or third hub, a warning comes up in my system tray about poor video performance. When I plug it right into the computer, it works perfectly.If you google around, you will find alot of people solved their problem by not using a hub, and plugging the camera directly into the computer

This is working out great. I skype with my daughter, granddaughter and son in law. We had another webcam and we were not very clear and the sound was not to great on their end, hearing us. With this webcam, my daughter says she can hear us much clearer and the picture is much brighter. Thank you.

It was an absolutely amazing product. The quality is much better than any other webcam of the same price. It's obviously not going to be HD, but it is definitely high quality.

This is a great webcam. It has excellent picture quality, outstanding features such as zoom and the ability to move the camera's focus area without actually having to move the camera itself, but with arrows on the control panel. I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for a high quality web cam at a very affordable reasonable price.

This isn't the greatest webcam ever, but it is a good one that was more than worth it's evaluated pricetag. I'd suggest buying it. You won't be dissapointed by it. Very easy to install, set-up, and use. Get it!

It has good resolution but it's autofocus is messed up. It starts adjusting it self each 30 -60 seconds. I have not found how to disable it. As always software that came in the package with it leaves more to desire.In my case it basically works for my occasional communication needs but if I had to use it for day to day business needs I would replace it.

I just got the webcam, installation was very easy, picture quality is great, sound is great. Autofocus is not that bad, but turned it off anyways, works perfectly with msn, aol , skype. It is incredible how good a product can be yet having a price this low.

The quality is good, but the leg is not so good. It doesn't have a strong grab on my laptop screen. Whenever I move, it falls off. If you're using webcam for your laptop and constantly on the go, try something else, like clip-on type.

This little camera is a decent buy for the money, but isn't likely to satisfy someone with demand for high picture quality. With a maximum video resolution of 640x480 and a still picture resolution of 1.3 mp, it is suitable for every day general use with chat applications.There's little to no lag between camera and a USB 2.0+ compliant computer, and the audio quality is fair. The software is general Microsoft fare, so installs seamlessly on Windows Vista 32, Windows 7, and Windows XP.The PTZ feature is virtual, which is nice but not what I'd thought. Virtual, in meaning that the camera has to be set to lower than 640x480 in order for it to work. It 'pans, tilts, and zooms' by directing the software to 'focus' on different areas within the camera's direct view, and increases the resolution within that field to achieve the effect.The mount is certainly interesting. It's a positionally locking, flexible base that can be curved and bent up or down, while the camera can be pivoted left or right. It provides sufficient grip and traction to set or mount just about anywhere, and the entire weight of the camera is negligible.One of the biggest bonuses that I found with the camera was its ability to handle low light situations! It truly and honestly has, in my opinion, one of the best non-green-filter low light compensation I've seen to date.Overall, this is a good purchase for anyone wanting an inexpensive solution for a webcam. :)

Great compact HD camera.Bad:Continous Auto-Focusing sucks.Always need laptop screen to clip it. Would have been better if there was an optional base to place it on flat surface.Good:Price for the compact HD web camera.Light weight and compact.Great video quality.

Camera was a steal for $17. Only complaint is the software included is not all that great. Flexible supports so camera easily mounts on monitor or stands on a surface. Overall very pleased with the item so far. Item is very flexible and seems well built.

The product, MS LifeCam VX-6000, is not working properly on my computer. Having tried to troubleshoot for a whole day, I decided to contact Microsoft Customer Support, and I did. The tech support people couldn't solve the problem after wasting another half-day of my time (I was on hold for 20 mins!!!). Their suggestion at the end?? They suggested that I should remove MS Office program off my computer to make the web-cam work. Non-sense!!! He said that he would transfer me to MS Office team, but I got cut off.The next day, I called the tech support group again. First the hareware tech support guy said that the problem seemed to come from Microsoft Office program, and therefore I need to contact MS Office support team. He transferred me to the MSf office team, there was 15 minutes holding up, and then the tech people tranferred me to a customer service rep to create a new service number. I got sick of being tossing around getting nothing after wasting two days of my time becuase of this stupid product and MS people, so, I hung up there, and decided to return the product back to Amazon.com for refund.First, the product is not working properly.Second, product malfunctioning could possibley happen, but it's the service of the manufacture that is so bad. Had I bought a some other competing company's product, the service would have been different. So.... not just the LifeCam VX-6000, but also any MS hardware products, Never never buy them.Toledo, OHDong Kim

This webcam went back in the box not to be used or tried. It came with NO directions on the install, absolutely nothing. Not in a printed item or on-line. Because of this and the bad reviews here I haven't even tried installing the CD. (Who knows...by doing so I may be deleting the old install for my current Logitech webcam). Like other companies these days, Microsoft had better realize what customers need. We used to call all that "instructions" and "customer service". UPDATE: I guess bad reviews of a product just aren't accepted well by "blue sky" readers. There are better webcams. Save your money. My review was truthful and written in the spirit of saving others money and helping them get a better buy. Look into Logitechs higher end webcams.

I disabled autofocus because it seems indecisive even though my background is static and I'm not animated.The camera works pretty well even in low light (e.g. tested by turning off all my room lights and only used my monitor's screen illumination). The auto exposure settings seem to work fine in both day and night. Definitely a bargain when on sale for less than $20.The bendable stand works well on LCD monitors as well.

I love this webcam. This was my first experience using one, but needed one because my grandson was born out of state and I wanted to be able to keep up with his growth. I was a little afraid it would be complicated but it was a breeze to install and even easier to use. I use it with Skype and have had no major issues. I have used it several times and the picture was distorted only twice but cleared up pretty quickly. I plan on getting another one for another family member for christmas. I highly recommend this product.

I read the other reviews and decided that the only potential issue was slow autofocus. I haven't had any issue with that while using the HD-5000 for Skype and adding my "talking head" to screencasts. Great value, the image is sharp, the colors much better than my previous Logitech QuickCam and the kids had fun with the special effects.

This is a wonderful camera for someone who just wants to hang out on skype. It is very good for low light and bright light. I even have huge windows behind me that the camera has to face and it handles the sunshine wonderfully. The camera was very easy to install. It just took on CD and the computer did the rest. It has been about a year that I have had it and it still sounds great and has a good image. For this price it is a great buy!

I had bought this as a present for my parents so we can skype together. It was too hard for them to set up, but once they got my brother in law to do it, it worked fine. It works well on their desktop computer, and I'd recommend this to others.

This is my first web cam purchase and I am very satisfied. I am kind of a gadget fiend and always want to get the best product for my dollar or the best product period. After much review, I felt this camera would suffice. I am REALLY glad I didn't spend the extra money on the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 as it would have been unnecessary for my purposes. I am using it for basic chat so I don't use all the video conferencing features or mic. All the features is comes with are perfect for what I'm using it for. The still shots are cool and come out great, but I'm not going to print them or anything. I don't see the mic being an issue if it sits on your screen... how far away do you sit from the computer? I'm sure it performs just fine based on other reviews I read.The 1.3mp clarity is everything I anticipated it to be in both high or lo light settings. The image is very clear, and the camera auto adjusts very well. I sat in my room with the light on talking to friends and then turned the light off to test the auto adjust, utilizing the light only from the computer screen and there was no change in quality... I was impressed. The camera software also has additional features and icons to add to your streaming picture; color adjustments, adjust face size, add angel halo above your head, bouncing soccer ball, make eyes bigger/smaller, basically adjust your face looks as if you were in one of those carnival fun houses looking into those mirrors that change your looks... unnecessary but entertaining.There has been some remarks about the stand although it sits perfectly fine on top of my LCD screen (19" ViewSonic) without falling as the flexible rubber grip molds directly the way you want it, and also hugs my laptop screen (Sony Vaio) just fine as well.The only con that I see from the way I use the camera is the video capture. If you wave your hand or do fast sudden movements, the cam is a little slow to adjust/focus but it doesn't really bother me because I sit still for the most part. If that is of concern, then I would look into the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000.None the less, if you're just using it for at home/general purposes and not for business, where you don't really care about Hi-def video or over 30-frames per sec video capture, this webcam will do the job just fine. The cam is very easy and quick to install, and an overall great performer.

This is really a piece of crap, I bought it for my dad, since I was going to be travelling, I wanted to be able to see him when we spoke through skype or MNS. The camera never worked. We installed it, on Windows XP and it was always "loading". Called Microsoft customer service and they couldn't help me make it worked. They were supposed to send me a new one however it never arrived. The truth is, I didn't even complain about this because it such a bad expierience I did not want to risk it again. We had to get a new camera (Genius) that works perfectly and its extremely easy to use (plug and play)

It's great..stays on desktop monitor and laptop..got the same one for my Mom...easy to use...and never falls off...great picture and sound..no problems at all..with computers..that is a relief..I use it with skype..and can see and hear lot's of friends and family...Great..I recommend this one..have had others..that broke easily...

This is a very easy to install and use. Worth the money. Very good quality, image is very clear. Software included gives some options to record video and taking pictures. Microphone sound is very clear. The only problem is when you have low light, the auto foccus keeps working all the time. I recomend.

I really felt that this was a good deal, and it was, until it quit working within a year. There is a 3 year warranty. I'll have to find out about how to get it replaced. In the meantime, however, I have no webcam. It's not a software issue -- it's hardware. Windows no longer recognizes it at all when I plug it in on any machine. I wonder if the cleaning lady knocked it off of the monitor, or if it just died on its own? I'll never know, but if she did, it only could have dropped less than a foot. Until it quit, I was very satisfied with the image quality, and extremely impressed by the audio. We'll see what happens with warranty service. The software quality has been improved, as long as you download the updated software from the Microsoft website. You don't even need it, though.

I seldom use a webcam and I only need one for the occasions when I use Skype. This webcam was fairly easy to install-- although don't count on much help from the package it comes in-- the directions consist of 4 little drawings! But it installed fairly easily and I think both the picture and sound quality are good. My only objection is that the autofocus is slow- you really need to sit still while you're talking-- if you move around (watch your hand gestures) the viewer complains that it's a little blurry. Overall, good webcam for basic use.

This product is pretty good for the price, decent quality with a sweet and effective microphone built in. I actually purchased this for my friend who lives in Minnesota, since I knew it was good cuz I had one myself. I definitely suggest this, 4 stars out of 5, since there might be better out there, but from my experience, this thing is like gold.

Right now my family is scattered- One sister in England, one in Idaho, my parents and baby brother in Maryland, and I'm in Utah. This webcam is everything I need to video chat with my family with ease and quality. It didn't take long to install and it takes seconds to become functional when I plug it in to use it. My only problem is that it doesn't clip onto my laptop, it just perches on top, so when I move my laptop I have to be careful, but it has been dropped a few times without any damage. Overall, a good quality device that does everything I need it to with ease and speed.

We purchased this camera to see who often we would use Skype Video calls. When we ordered the camera we figured it would be an entry level camera just to get us started. I wasn't expecting much in terms of picture quality but was pleasantly surprised once it was setup. Installation was a breeze in XP. I inserted the CD and waited for it to prompt me to plug the camera in. I had the camera installed and up and running within 5 minutes and was making a video calls within 10.

I have purchased a total of four Microsoft Lifecam VX-5000's for myself and family. It makes a great gift. The price is relatively low and it installs very easily. With Vista for sure you can plug it in and be video chatting within minutes without ever touching the CD Drawer. In many cases just plugging it in with XP is enough also, however on one install we had to use the supplied software. Not sure why it would not plug and play for that one particular situation but it may have been more a fault of the computer and it's flaky USB function.We are using Skype to communicate, I tried Yahoo Messenger but it was too cumbersome and didn't provide a very good experience.As for image quality? It's probably better than some webcams but not spectacular. I didn't really realize just how mediocre it was until I connected with my brother with him using the built in iSight webcam on his Apple Desktop. Wowzy Wow Wow!! The image coming across from the Apple compared to family members with the VX-5000 blew me away. For example my nieces faces are washed out on the VX-5000 if the light isn't just perfect, making them look like little aliens. Now I am debating the purchase of better webcams. Maybe it's a good excuse to consider an Apple computer if just for the iSight Camera. But that doesn't address the issue of my nieces who are not going to be the beneficiaries of a new MAC at my expense.In the end if you just want a webcam that installs easily and doesn't cost much, this is it. If image quality is a higher priority, you may want to try something else.I am editing/amending this to say that I have decided to relegate my VX-5000 to my laptop backpack for travel and will purchase a Logitech Quickcam PRO 9000 for my desktop. Update to come. Now that I have embraced the whole video communication thing I want a better webcam. If it works out positively, my family will be getting new webcams for the December Holidays.*****This is a follow up. I now have the Logitech Webcam PRO 9000. Much better picture quality. Seems on a par with the Apple. My only complaint would be the slow to install software and the higher price(double). Otherwise I guess you get what you pay for as this is a much better camera.

I bought this webcam because of the auto focus feature by the ads. But the one I am disappointed is this feature. When I was video chatting, the video kept on going clear to blurry and blurry to clear. I do not really know why it always changing the focus. And the speed of each period is long enough to disturb me like 5 secs. The HD quality is not bad but not excellent.In general, half of the time it is auto focusing and the other half is HD. You can imaging what is going on.

Esta es la mejor opcion en camaras web de alta definicion, excelente precio para todo lo que hace esta camara, toma fotos en alta resolucion, graba videos hd 720p, ademas de que el enfoque es widesreen y muchas cosas mas. Yo estoy muy satisfecho con mi nueva camara web. se las recomiendo.

This is my first Webcam so I don't really have anything to compare it too, but I really like it. Unlike some of the other reviews, I'm not having problems with the auto focus at all. It's a very good quality picture, much better than the ones being used by most of the people I talk to actually!

My parents live 900 miles from me and they rarely get to see their 2 grandchildren. So, I decided to get this camera hoping that it would work well with my laptop and use skype. Picture wise, it is great. Everyone seems happy on the other end with the picture. The problem comes when you move the computer. Because the mount just allows it to balance on the top, it has a tendency to topple or at the very least move off center. It is flexible so there are a number of things that can be done to make it work but none of them prevent it from being real loose.

Bought 3 of these to SKYPE with family back east. For what I wanted, I could not have chosen a better cam. I am not video blogging or recording home movies of any type so the built in microphone is fine. Video quality is great! Glad I chose this one!

This camera has serious flaws: the software that came with it crashed my computer (running with Windows 7) and also my laptop (running with XP), therefore I realized the problem is in the software, not on my computers. So I uninstalled it and the camera is running without its original software, thus disabling any special functions it might have; also, and the worst of all, the auto-focus doesn't work properly, it's constantly refocusing and can't hold focus. I bought another Microsoft camera below this model which works just fine and it was much cheaper. I want to believe the problem resides on this particular camera and not in all the models, but it is not reasonable to sell a camera that might present such kind of troubles. Not at this price, at least. Try something else.
