I had watched this webcam to see if it ever went below "overpriced" and it finally did, so I bought a two-pack for a really good price. I was disappointed to say the least. The camera is grainy and while it does have good color reproduction the graininess and lack of speed over the USB 2.0 bus was alarming. All the reviews touted the glass lens, as if that matters, when it's the sensors in this camera that is the main disappointment. Pictures are over-saturated and low-light exposure is overly grainy. The thing is, these two combine for a low-quality picture that doesn't compress well over an internet connection due to all the grain and blurriness.Even though this aging, expensive camera is now available a more reasonable price, I still recommend trying the new store-brand, generic UVC cameras instead of this one. This camera is outdated and not really a good value. The $25 generic UVC camera is definitely a much better value and delivers a better picture than this one.The Lifecam software has great effects that are a lot of fun. I hope the newer generation of Microsoft cameras are better when it comes to picture quality and frame rate without blurrying.

This camera is overpriced and does not live up to expectations. The autofocus feature is TERRIBLE! Whether you move an inch or a mile, the camera is constantly refocusing. Terrible for shooting YouTube videos or chatting with friends since every second you will be either somewhat clear or completely fuzzy.

Good picture, especially in dark settings. Mine also had the strange autofocus issue everyone else is complaining about, however, if you go into the Lifecam settings you can turn it off.

This product is excellent. This is my first webcam and it was recommended by CNET and it is exactly as it stated. Inexpensive but an excellent product. It was fairly easy to install and the picture quality is great. I also love that you can bend the neck to put it where you want.

Received the camera today and had it installed in 5 minutes. It works perfectly. Software is very easy. There was a Firmware update and the focus took about a minute to work. Used it on Skype and the microphone was very good as was the video.

Replaces an old LifeCam VX-3000. I haven't used and probably will not use the microphone built in so keep that in mind. Picture quality is pretty outstanding in my own opinion. The Auto focus is mega annoying but you can disable it. I have even used the camera in low light situations and haven't noticed much of a difference. The price I paid $19.99 was a great bang for your buck if you don't want to spend a big amount on a webcam. Clearly I would recommend it.

This is a very good camera, it does 720P so you get a sweet picture. The mic is ridiculously good, you don't have to be near it at all and you'll still come through crisp and clear. The only downside is the autofocus can be a bit annoying, if you are breaking focus by moving forward and back or whatever the camera will autofocus frequently enough to make you be like wtf, but I'm still pleased with the camera.

This cam has nice extension on the cable. This cam has excellent quality, but I have many issues on things shutting down and getting warnings because the resources are too low. This cam takes up lots of memory and does not work to the capacity I would like when too many applications are open. The sound quality in recording is awful.The cam also has issues in manual adjustments of brightness, but learning the quirks makes it ok. Be sure NOT to have any light behind the cam if you want good focus and quality. Otherwise I like the cam.

I bought two of these webcams so my wife and I could chat on facebook video chat and I could do google hangouts.When I got the camera in I just plugged them straight into our windows 7 laptops and it downloaded and configured the drivers "automagically" with no need for the CD.

This is an awesome little camera I bought 2 of them. I have not used it for Skype orinstant messaging they are set up for surveillance and personal protection. The picture quality and sound are crystal clear and I have left them recording for hours.This little camera even picks up sound in the other room. If you are in the market and don't have much to spend this is what you need. Amazon.com always has the lowestprices and speedy shipping.Thanks

First of all I don't write many reviews but I feel this cam is worth a few minutes telling you about this Microsoft LifeCam 5000, this was just what I was looking for. I purchased the "RED" because of the price, who cares about the color and after getting this camera, come to find out its approx. 98% black, only a small red band that goes all the way around it no big deal...buy the red one, best for the price who is going to see it anyway. I'm thinking about getting another one to use as a security cam for my front door. I can't see the front door from my office window; I really need to see the postman when he comes to my front gate/door or my Rottweiler will freak him out.Very EZ to install....however I did not use software that came with it, just plugged it in and my system (Window 7) installed all the software needed, in five minutes it was up and running and now after using this cam for about two weeks no problems. The adjustments are also EZ to use and the camera sit atop my monitor or will sit on my desk top with no problems moving.The first few times I used this cam with skype phoning my family and friends they tell me it look like I'm in real time with no delays and with the built-in mic the sound of my voice is very clear, you don't need to yell into this cam like my last one, just talk normal. I highly recommend buying this cam and as others have stated don't use the software that come with it, if you are running Windows 7 all you need is to plug it into the USB port and your system will install all the software needed.Can't beat this for the price...good luck.

The Microsoft LifeCam HD-5000 offers the clearest, best picture of any webcam I have ever owned. One "feature" that you will immediately want to disable right out of the box is the auto-focus. For me, the camera was constantly attempting to re-focus, causing the image to constantly swing back and forth between clear and blurry, regardless of lighting condition or sitting perfectly still.To fix: Use the camera control dashboard > properties > camera control > uncheck the "auto" box next to focus. Now you have a great webcam!

Does exactly what you expect it to. My only, very small, complaint is that the auto focus can get annoying at times but you can turn this off if you wish and it isn't too bad for the most part if you are in a well lit room. Other than that it is a very clear picture and I enjoy getting to Skype with it.

I bought 2 of these cameras so my wife and I can Skype while Im away.Pros:-As long as you have a good internet connection speed these will give you a full HD experience on Skype.-Easy to install and use-Good microphone-Stand work well for attaching to the top of a monitorCons:-Autofocus should be disabled because it will just keep trying to focus every 10 seconds.

I didn't use this because it is a gift. I ordered it because it said it would arrive in 3-5 business days, and six days later I was leaving on a trip and planned to bring this to my friend for her birthday. Soon after ordering, it said it would arrive much later. Now the gift is late and I have to send it myself and pay for shipping again. Unsatisfied with the service.

To use this camera for video calls it's an absolute must to disable the autofocus. And unfortunately you must do it every time you've rebooted your computer, if not every time you restart your video calling program. The autofocus will hunt back and forth over its full focusing range on a regular basis even if the subject is relatively close to the camera and moving very little. The end result is maddening. I don't know if this "feature" is reduced by a super strong connection, but I do know I'm not the first to complain about it by any means.The only solution is to open up the camera settings and disable the hyped "true color + ClearFrame Technology". Once this box is unchecked you can then go into the "Properties" and uncheck autofocus. While you're at it you may want to uncheck the auto exposure and the auto color temperature and just make adjustments there that look good to you.Once you've killed the horribly evil autofocus the video is actually quite good for such a tiny camera. That's why I give this 3 stars instead of 1. I've used it with Skype and the video is sometimes good even with sub 500 Kbit connections. It is definitely much, much, better than the built in camera in a new Dell laptop (relatively high end with a Core i5 and 4GB RAM) just purchased in the past 2 months. It's also better than a camera built into an iMac that I've had the opportunity to compare with.

When you Skype, one thing I hate is when the other person's camera is too far out of line from the screen - you get the impression they're talking to someone else.That's perhaps the best thing about this camera - when used with a laptop, the camera is much closer to the screen (in up and down) than the other web cams we have had (Veo Stingray, Microsoft Lifecam VX1000The picture quality is very good, and the auto focus is good 95% of the time. If you get too many people and some of them (kids for example) start moving around, the camera will defocus and refocus. I suppose it's a little annoying, but the only time I could get it to do it when it was just me sitting at my desk was when I used my hand to play around with the autofocus.The rear mount is another nice bit - the base / mount is some type of articulated metal hinges, kind of like a flat gooseneck. It's coated with a grippy rubber layer. Balances nicely on the top of your monitor or laptop screen.The only way I have been able to completely solve the eye contact issue is by making a special mount for my other (VX1000) webcam and placing it right in front of the screen - bummer since the person on the other side needs to be using it as well.

Over all it looks like a nice unit and it even came with a nice pouch. Very simple to install and when its working it has a nice picture....but.... The thing keeps refocusing and refocusing as if I were moving closer and further away from it, I was sitting still. Even people who have viewed me have said that the constant refocusing gets annoying. I bought a basic no name webcam called (metal finish webcam) for only $7 and it works a whole lot better.

I only bought it because it was on sale. If it was full price, no way is it worth it. The quality was decent, but no more than $30 decent.Now we have a smart phone and never use webcams anymore, but it was a good 6 months of decent webcam chatting.

The video and sound quality are above average, never impeding the conversation. No instillation of software required. I simply plugged the webcam into one of my USB drives, my computer recognized the device and I was free to utilize it effortlessly with Yahoo chat and Skype.After nearly 3 years of regular use, the product stills works perfectly.

For the price, this webcam is a good solution for basic webcam video chatting. It worked for me using skype, msn, and aim messenger. Works best with MSN messenger in my opinion. The video it produced was smooth without any hiccups using a Pentium D (dual-core) cpu, and 756K DSL connection. The quality wasn't clear as a 720p camera could produce, but it was still exceptional. The audio is also clear, and cancels out most background noise.Recommended for people on budgets. Don't get this if you want HD quality.

By far, this is the best HD webcam that I have used. It was easy to set up and connect. I used it first to have my kids video call their cousins in New York (I'm in Atlanta) and the first thing they said was "...WOW! I can see you real clear! That must be a good webcam!"Since I've had it, there have been no issues and I'm trying to find ways to use it more! I just started taking pictures with it ... WOW!Great product!

My wife and I recently purchased this web-cam for her parents who use g-chat through email to talk to my brother-in-law and his wife. After using their new HD camera once they were telling us how much they enjoyed it. They said that while chatting with my brother-in-law and his wife that they mentioned how great the picture quality was and that they could make out everything in the room that was in the camera's view and that the sound quality was great too! Another great feature of the product is the small and sleek design so unlike some web-cams this is not an eye sore on the computer stand.

After reading a lot of reviews this item looked like it would be the easiest for my family to use for Skype. We have XP on those older computers. The camera adn microphone work pretty well. I don't like bendable the mounting bracket. We have a hard time positioning it well. It can stand alone or mount on the laptop.

Bought it to take photos and Skype on my desktop (PC, Win7) and so far have had no problems with it and has really great picture quality. It tends to auto focus a lot but I think it might be the distance I sit away from my computer I should probably sit closer. Also, it works well under Ubuntu (GNU/Linux operating system) as well.

This camera works really well. The picture quality is great, but the auto-focus just focuses too much, I turned mine off and the problem was avoided. The sound quality is good, maybe a little too good, as my microphone picks up all the white noise in my background all the time. Maybe I just need to configure that a little better. Overall, well worth the money.

I was ready to really like this camera. Really, I was.Unfortunately, while the description says that it requires either Windows XP "SP2 or Later" (or Vista or Windows 7), what it appears to *actually* require is Windows XP SP2 - exactly. SP3 renders the camera unusable. The included software simply crashes without doing anything, and while other programs such as Skype recognize that the camera is there, they simply either do nothing at all or they show a black box where the picture should be.Overall, this was a very disappointing purchase. :o(

Just bought and installed this product, poped the installation CD in and says my product has compatability issues with windows 7.....ok.....downloaded updated software...Turned on the software, here were myresolution options for video320 x 120640 x 480800 x 600Resolution options for pictures2mp8mpThe main reason I bought this over the nx-3000 model was because it was advertised as a 2.0 mp for video. WRONG..it is NOT 2.0 MP for Video! Would have rather purchased the nx 3000 and save $10.Besides the cool case it comes with and attaches to the laptop its not a bad product. But like I said could have gone with the nx-3000...video quality I really saw no difference between this and the generic $8 cam I bought. Frustrates me when you dont get what you expect...

Hi Web-Grammie here: My daughter told me about this web cam that was on Amazon.com about 3weeks ago. I couldn't find it cheaper anywhere. I Had never ordered from Amazon before so I didn't know what to expect. I was very pleasently suprised at how easy and fast it was to order. Received this WEB-CAM in three days. I am very happy with this product. It allows me to keep in visual touch with my grandchildren (7) all under 6years of age. We all know how fast they can grow. The picture and sound are great. It was very easy to install because I'am not very experienced with all this new technology. Thanks Amazon WEB-Grammie

I purchased this camera for use with Skype to chat with friends and family. It was exceptionally easy to set up (less than 3 minutes) and I began using it without issue right away. Unlike some reviewers, I have not had issues with the auto focus. That could be because the webcam is positioned to view my entire living room and during use I am typically more than 6' from it. The picture quality is excellent and although there is a significant distance between me and the camera - it picks up the audio perfectly. I should also add that the room it is in is very low light but the camera picks up everything. All in all - a great product and well worth the money spent.

This product works great, I got it to install and all of the features work perfectly. I got it to work on the highest resolutions for both still image and video capture without any problems. The only problem I had was when using video chat, the auto-focus kept trying to refocus even when I wasn't moving my body at all. I turned off the auto-focus using the built in software, so it is no longer a problem.

We got this webcam so we could communicate with our family (who lives across the state) with video once our child was born, so that my parents could see their grandson as he grows. I have used it to Skype with my family and several friends around the country and world, and it works just fine. The picture is a little choppy, with a slight delay between the sound and the image (ie, I will say something while moving my hands in a certain way, and my motions will show up a second later on the screen than when I make them, so the sound and image don't match up). It's not really good for creating videos/movies because of this. If you do video capture, it will be annoying to watch because of your mouth and motions not matching up with your words (like a dubbed foreign film :-) ). But, this is an inexpensive webcam, and you get what you pay for. If you want it for Skype or just basic video calling, it should work nicely.The microphone quality is great.When I installed it, my computer still couldn't recognize the hardware, so after some Googling, I figured out how to maneuver some stuff in the control panel to get my computer to recognize it. Had to uninstall and reinstall a couple of times. Not sure if it was an issue with my computer or the installation software for the webcam.

It took awhile before I received shipment, but installation was simple. I was up and 'running' within just a few minutes! My only slight disappointment was I expected my webcam to be completely RED, not just a thin line around it's perimeter, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered to select a color. Other than that disappointment, I am very pleased with the performance of this webcam! I really appreciate the ease in which I am able to adjust the position of the webcam on top of my flatscreen monitor. I would recommend purchase of this webcam to anyone who is looking to purchase an inexpensive, yet competent webcam!

I got this cam mainly for the price, the features were a help.The first problem I came to, the software would not install. After several attempts, I gave up and just plugged in the unit.The picture quality was good, better then the laptop built in cam on my Acer. Microphone was never tested so just have to lean on other reviews for that. Once I finally got the cam to work just for testing, I saw what other review mean about the autofocus, IT SUCKS. Don't even have to move much and the picture goes out of focus. There is about a 2 second delay for the focus to come back, real annoying. Even for a video chatting cam, the autofocus disfunctioning is annoying for the receivers.I would not recommend this unit to anyone. There are better for the same price.

I bought this HD webcam to use with Skype. I thought I was getting a bargain when I got it for $25. Even at that discounted price, it's not worth it. The thing works okay, but it goes in and out of focus constantly and there's no way to stop it! It's ridiculous. Also, it eats up so much memory you can't use it at its HD high level--which is why I bought the piece of junk to begin with! I don't enjoy leaving bad reviews, but this camera deserves it. I do not recommend it. Absolutely not.

This is a good webcam. I did not have an installation CD since I bought it as a preowned item but I was able to download the software from Microsoft hardware downloads, it is the best webcam I have had so far, the picture quality is really good.

It is an OK webcam. It provides decent quality and such, but the mic is not so great. The mic made me sound super low-pitched, which I am not. It took a bit of tweaking but once I was done, it was almost as clear as my logitech mic (which has almost unbeatable quality). It has a bit of background noise too, but it's nothing major.The video quality is really good. If you set the res. to 800x600 and then set it to zoom in 2x, it will look very nice. It's an OK webcam for a great price. I would rather have paid $44 for another HD webcam, but this is fine for someone who just needs it for skype and such.The installation was the worst part of the webcam so far. I had some trouble installing it on windows 7. It didn't install properly and the installer directed me to a place to download an updated installer for win7. It wasn't too bad though.It does go on and off when you open the webcam program. I guess it dedicates itself to one program at a time. So either you have it on skype or live or the program it comes with. Not all at once. I think there is a way to change this in the properties though.All in all, if you have a $30 budget, this is one of the best webcams you can get.

The set up was really easy as the software component stepped you through the whole installation process with no issues.The picture quality was a lot better for the price of this camera: at 720p it was a good quality in the usual chat sized window. Note that the picture was very sharp and shows wrinkles, pimples and all! However, if you blew up the size to full screen, there were noticeable delays in the picture. The audio was fully synced regardless of the window size. Note that you need a fast processor, which may not come with your portable computer.The auto focus worked well and responded very quickly.We actually hooked to our computer that was linked to your HD TV: actually worked! But if you are camera shy as the details are pretty good on this camera.Additional enhancement preferred: lense cover for privacy just in case you forgot to log yourself out.Is this worth it compared to other brands out there like Logitech: yes, but to get the full benefits you need a HD computer screen and that it is PC compatible only.
