When I got this webcamera, I was not looking for something too fancy, just something that would do the job well. I do admit that the video effects are fun. My father recommended this one because his work uses the same webcamera.

Got one for me and one for my mom. I run Windows 7, she runs XP. It was easier to install on 7, than XP. It doesn't tell you that if you open the camera's app, you cannot use it while using chat. So if you can't figure out why it's not working on chat, make sure you are not logged in to the camera. Also make sure you have the latest version of Messenger, the recommended program for this camera.Shipping: Got mine right away in CA, just about 3 days. In WA, it took over a week.Picture: Pretty clear but slow. If you move alot, it blurs and has to refocus. Sometimes the sound goes out, but then comes back in for no apparent reason. Picture is pretty clear, but if someone runs a slower computer or older computer, they will come in much slower to you. You wont be able to use Skype unless you have enough memory. Works really good in low light, or even just the light from your computer.Adjust's easily to any position you want and sits perfectly on any flat screen or just on the desk.I was encouraged to buy this based on a video review by another user as it looked extremely clear and didn't focus when he moved. But that wasn't the case when I actually got it, otherwise it's a good little cheap camera.

The first one I purchased didn't work. The replacement camera worked but the software that came with it didn't. This product turned into a pain in my... costumer service was excellent through all my troubles.

I owned this LifeCam5000 for about a year with no problems but gave it to my mother so I could Skype with her, then I bought another from Amazon. To my dismay, the LifeCam5000 that arrived had a microphone with such poor sensitivity that my mother (and boyfriend) could not hear me unless I had it turned up to full microphone volume. I just returned the Amazon LifeCam and picked up another one from WalMart. Sadly, the microphone sensitivity on the WalMart LifeCam is about as bad as the Amazon product's was. I've now tested my new WalMart LifeCam5000 side-by-side with the LifeCam5000 my boyfriend purchased a year ago and his microphone sensitivity is about twice that of the new WalMart product. So the question now is - are the new LifeCam5000s all made with reduced microphone sensitivity, or have I had bad luck twice in a row?Update- January 23, 2012: I contacted Microsoft directly about this product and they offered to replace it. I'm glad to know that they're willing to take responsibility for an inferior product.

Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000 (Blue) Bought this for my wife so she can talk and see her sister in Canada over SKYPE. Easy to install, easy to use. MY wife loves it because she says it's like having her sister in the same room. I would recomend this product highly.

I received the Microsoft LifeCam HD 6000 today and think its pretty awesome. I use it for skyping and making video blogs and it does the job just fine. Unless you're a hard core youtube blogger or something, I can't see much reason in buying anything else. It does 720p HD videos and its clarity is awesome and the color is absolutely brilliant. So unless you need 1080p, I totally suggest this product.

The quality of the video is good, the quality of photos is great, but the audio goes out of sync on video drastically. No updates or setting changes have fixed it. If anyone has a solution, please reply.

This webcam is perfect! The audio was great, the video was great, the movement was perfect. It's very compact and adjustable so you can put it on nearly any computer screen. there is no need to use a lamp or some sort of light because it adjusts to the color. I would HIGHLY recommend this product!

I use this for Skype. It has a decent camera and a good microphone. Quick and easy to set up. Adjustable stand to hang over the top of a monitor or whatever.Price was pretty good too.

The Microsoft web cam HD-6000 is a tremendous improvement over the one I had before.Light control,the auto focus,ability to swival camera head.The up dated apps from Microsoft are a riot to add to your picture. The only thing I wish I had paid attention to,is this web cam is for lap tops,will not fit on desk-top monitors,even an Led monitor.I recomend this Lifecam HD-6000 one hundred percent.Do compare pricing on this item,can very by five dollars.

The product was supposed to be an OEM 3 pack yet only 1 LifeCam arrived. It looks like an OEM 3 pack set was broken and they're shipping the individual cameras from the set. I have a photo of what arrived in the box...[...]I'd rather just contact the seller and work it out with them rather than write a review but Amazon doesn't give this option on an order after the product has shipped that I can find.

This webcam was bought to use as a make-shift security camera in the office of a business. Paired with freeware webcam software, it performed this function without a hitch. I was able to install the webcam on a Dell desktop from from 2000 or so, and while the running of the software does slow the computer down a bit, that would be expected with a computer having 512MB of RAM.The quality of the physical item is well designed and built. It is a small device, with the front profile the size of about a half a poker card (including the stand), which served its purpose well. However, being small and lightweight, it requires some manipulation to attain the wanted view.The picture is startling clear. Compared to any built-in webcam I've ever seen, it's night and day. The auto focus works well, although it does depend on the lighting. In a darker room, or with overly bright lighting, the focus can be a little slow to clear. With ideal atmosphere, it takes the webcam about a blinks worth of time to focus on a new area or object.Overall, this webcam performs exceedingly well for the price as an impromptu security camera. While I do not use it for any use other than that, I can say that it would most definitely perform well given any task expected of it. It is easy to install and operate, and with free software, versatile and inexpensive.

Length:: 8:31 MinsI got this yesterday (Black Friday, 2010)at Staples and am returning it today. When recording in the evening, the color hue is a deep orange with shadows that make me look like I have a five o'clock shadow (and I'm a girl! :) The sharpness of the video and the audio quality is pretty good as well as a/v sync but there must be a defect making everything look orange in low light. The settings have no RGB correction and I have been spending hours changing "white balance" "brightness" and "saturation" to no avail. Also I noticed it had a click, click, click in the audio. I later discovered its the auto focus feature. Makes that noise when it kicks in. Also, auto focus is over aggressive. You virtually can't move w/o it kicking in. And the Microsoft software is buggy. Crashed my computer 3 times already. And I'm constantly being told that I have low resources and I have a Dell Vostro 200 running XP Pro with an Intel Dual-Core 2.83 Processor, 2GB ram and 6mb L2 Cache. So what's up with that? I may get a replacement since it only cost me 19.99 on Black Friday 2010. If I do, and it's better, I'll update this post.UPDATE:Returned it to Staples and got a replacement. Same thing. Returned that one and got another one. It's a little better but still with the shadow on the face and "over color" making my beige wall look pinkish even in the daylight. But I was able to tweak this one and got a better result. I'll give this one 2 1/2 stars.Update again: I returned that one and got a fourth one. About the same as the third one so this review is now a review on four units. Here are my tweaks which made it livable.My tweaks:Using the software, in properties:Uncheck Auto FocusBrightness: .75White Balance: UNCHECK the box (or you won't be able to move the slider) and change to 3400 (more pink tone to counter act the orange color)Saturation: reduce to 50P.S. I'm uploading my video review from youtube. When I describe the lighting, it may not be clear. I was using two 7 watt night light bulbs and 2 60 watt bulbs in that recording. Also I was referring to an LCD monitor. heh. And no, I later found out that the Lifecam does not fit on the LCD monitor so scratch that statement of mine.

I've never had a webcam before because I live in a place where I'm unable to get real high speed internet. But we received the Microsoft LifeCam HD-5000 and I knew, from the minute that I hooked it up, that it was going to be something that would truly change our lives.OUT OF THE BOXThe LifeCam was a bit of a pain to get out of the box, but once it was out it was far too easy to set up. I simply put in the included disc, hooked up the camera, and it was read to go. I think it took about five minutes to get the whole thing up and running.The LifeCam has an adjustable piece in the back, so that you can not only have it stand up, but you can hang it on your computer as well. I'm using a laptop and was easily able to manipulate the piece so that the camera sat securely on the top of my screen, although I'm curious how the company's laptop specific camera will work.USING THE CAMERAOnce the camera was hooked up, we started playing around with it. My children absolutely loved the fun things that you could do with the video suite that came with the camera. The fact that they could make themselves have big eyes or silly attachments on their faces was just too much fun for them.I decided to give Skype a try, and so registered and got everything hooked up. The LifeCam connected instantly to the Skype program and once I got a friend to connect with me, I was able to see how it works.Note to those using satellite internet: Skype actually doesn't take much internet! You may have some moments of pixillization, but it's not too bad.THE PROS:It was extremely easy to set up and I love the fact that you can pick which size you want both the video and the photo captures to be. It not only saves space on your hard drive but it also made it much easier for me to be able to send photos and videos to family members. It sits fairly well on top of my laptop and I like that I can move it around when I'm on a chat (it's fun to show family members who have never been to your home what your house looks like).THE CONS:The autofocus can be a bit annoying. It seems that, even if you're sitting in the exact same spot and do not move, it tends to fuzz you out and refocus again. I, as well as other reviewers, it seems, also wish that you could turn off the autofocus option.This is definitely a great little camera, and I'm extremely glad that we got it!

Length:: 2:23 MinsA short video review of the Microsoft HD 5000 LifeCam. The review shows you how the webcam behaves under different conditions. The recording is done at the highest resolution available in the software, 1280x720, and the file is only 35 MB.One of the main things I point out in the video is the difference between using the auto-focus and having it switched off: The auto-focus is really only designed for when you want to show something within an inch or two of the webcam, not for when you are sitting in front of your computer talking. I tested it with close objects afterward and it works great for that.I've tested the webcam with Gmail video chat, Skype 5.1, and Windows Live Messenger. For Gmail, I would recommend enabling "Video chat enhancements" from Google Labs to take advantage of the higher resolution.One thing to keep in mind when setting up your webcam is that you need to make sure all the software is up-to-date. This includes the drivers, the firmware, and the application. When I plugged in the webcam, my computer got the latest drivers from Windows Update. When I installed the application from the included CD, it told me that the webcam required a firmware update. After that, the application crashed whenever I started it, so I got the latest from the Microsoft site (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/download.aspx?category=ICE). Now everything works fine.As you notice in the video, the special effects are resource intensive - that section causes the audio and video to not be synced for a few seconds. This is only a problem if you want to record the effects - just turning them on and viewing them on-screen works fine. Overall, I think it has great video and audio quality, especially for such cheap prices as Amazon offers, and I recommend it for anyone looking for a HD webcam.

I bought this camera after comparing many webcams online. I am not going to pretend that I know anything about cameras, so really, I was just looking for a few qualifications: Under $40, at least 720p, compatible with Win7, and decent looking. I started using Skype to video chat with my girlfriend while away on travel. The camera produces a beautiful image that is not at all choppy and great even in weird lighting conditions. The camera does have a strange auto-focus feature on it that constantly refocuses the lens (which is very annoying during a video call). Luckily, it is an easy fix on the camera settings found in the (included) LifeCam program.

The only reason I didn't return this cam was because I bought it at a very cheap price. Right after I bought it amazon changed the price to almost double. The camera runs out of focus constantly at every light condition, even if I don't move. Quality is not so great either. I don't know how they say it's HD, but I can definitely see my picture pixelated.I'm not much of a heavy webcam user. I just use it couple of times a month to chat with family. If I was a pro user, or had to pay more than what I did, I would return this cam for sure.

A functional and reasonably priced USB Camera. Software adds a few effects to pictures and videos. Great on the desktop or resting on top of an LED monitor. Great for Skype or other video call programs, built-in microphone picks up voices well, focusing ring is also convenient.My only complaint is that the cable is a little stiffer than necessary so it doesn't seem to stay in place without some finagling. Once you've got it set in one spot you don't have to touch it. It would probably be better if the base was a little heavier to offset the cable stiffness. I bought this as a gift for my aunt so we could video chat. It worked perfectly and has given us a chance to reconnect. Picture quality and sound met my expectations for the price and even my none computer savy aunt installed with no problems. I will be sending some to other relatives too. Great for the price.

This is a fine camera, but a camera should be a camera, usable for all video needs in connection with a computer, just like the built-in cameras offered on many laptops now, not just some narrowly defined set of uses, like Windows messenger, etc. Not good. Annoying.The auto-focus is also waaay too sensitive and hyper-active. Many sudden focusing and refocusing episodes for no apparent reason. This needs work and a kill button for the auto-focus would be nice. Meanwhile, buy dramamine and get set for annoyance.Color is fine and picture is sharp in HD.So, is this camera for you? If you can put up with the annoying auto-focus, just be sure that you'll want it for only the exact uses specified on the box. Anything else may not work, as for instance, g-mail video.Fail.March 14, 2011: Further ThoughtsAfter playing around with the camera further, I found that by uninstalling the MS software, the camera works well as a basic plug-in USB camera. It delivers high quality video with good color and as a bonus, the distracting, badly implemented auto-focus is gone, and you can use the camera for any app, such as G-Mail Video, not just the narrow range dictated by the software. However, without the software to control the camera, there appears to be no way to adjust color, focus, etc. This didn't prove to be a problem in a recent video chat - but getting the light levels right is a bit of a headache since the camera doesn't adjust for these itself. We're using the camera for an older laptop which came without a built-in camera, for which purpose it is fine, especially, since I paid about $17 for this camera through a Gold Box special. If you get the camera at this price, it's probably worth buying.

I bought this without looking at the requirements because it was such a good deal at $20. My laptop is a single core at 2.0 GHz and the webcam needs a dual-core at 1.6GHz. I did not know my laptop was a single-core until after I tried to install this webcam the installation told me my system didn't meet the requirements even though its 2GHz and has 2Gb of RAM. So now I have to return it and get a low quality webcam for my turtle of a laptop.

Hello I think everyone covered this camera well.PROS:-It was a good price (some $22 dollars for me, easily worth more)-Great high quality video. Possibly better than my midrange ($40) Logitech with a slightly bulkier round camera was.-Good microphone [better than my internal]-Plug and play [after windows found drivers]CONS:-It has blurry tracking (worse than the logitech I had before)-It has weird autofocus (worse than the logitech I had before)Conclusion:Great Camera. Possibly best camera for <$30. Overall for *MY* purposes I'm not sure how I feel about it, I suppose the benefits (even better quality) are even with the cons (reduced tracking and autofocus). It's much better than the average $20 dollar cam you'll find though [and on par with quality $50 cameras]. One thing I would consider is the quality of your internet. If you have slow internet, you will not be able to make use of the high quality capture (in video calls), but you will still be affected by the *slightly* delayed/blurry tracking and the funky autofocus (it occasionally becomes blurry as it unnecessarily autofocuses).*Final note on the form factor*: The camera itself comes in a very nice form factor. I thought it would be bulky, but it's in fact smaller than my last webcam and a nicer shape (rounded rectangle-square). The way it attaches to monitors and screens was also better, and had a nice weighted mechanism more than a 'latch'. I would have liked if the mount folded up in a better way (taking up less space) or was detachable.

I bought this webcam for my sister since we Skype on a regular basis, and she was having problems with the one on her laptop. I was interested in two things -- quality of the picture and price, and this webcam has delivered on both. I went on CNET to check out what they thought was a good camera and found out about this one. We have since used it and the picture is very clear. I also have young nieces, and I was able to see them very well, and they even showed me multiple Christmas decorations they had made that I could see the details of clearly. If you're interested in lots of extra cool features, this probably isn't the webcam for you but it does give you a good quality picture for the price.

I was impressed with this little camera. It was a huge improvement over the factory installed camera on my laptop. It was easy to install and worked great right from the start. the color image is fantastic. the only problem is the type of clamp/hanging mechanism lets the camera flop around and not mount rigid to the top of the laptop screen. Once it is in the right position, other can see me and not other parts of the room i am in. Other than that, great camera.I would recommend this camera to a friend.

I have had this camera a while now and was happy with it, but I have to point out that it does not work with Flash 11 or higher!It still works in MSN but no longer works in websites, I have to uninstall flash and install version 10 to get it to work.As such this isnt a product I can recommend any longer.

When this web cam became available on VINE, I quickly snagged it. Little did I know it was aimed squarely at Microsoft operating systems. Boy was I in for a surprise when it arrived.When the unit arrived I scanned the box for system requirements. No mention of Mac or OS X. My heart sank. Not wanting to spoil an opportunity, I decided to search on Google to see if the web cam would work with OS X.With some research in hand and in trepidation, I started to un-box the camera. That is easier said than done, especially if you want to keep the packaging intact in case you need to return it. After an extended amount of time I freed the web cam from the box.There is very little in the box. There is a very small manual, a quick start guide and a disc... and of course the web cam.The quick start guide indicates we need to install the software first. If you are running a Windows operating system, then do that. OS X does not need additional drivers and the disc will make a good coaster for Mac users.Step 2 is to plug the web cam in. This requires a free USB port. Step 3 of the quick start guide is setting the web cam up, either on the monitor or a flat surface.Now it is ready for use. For OS X users, start iChat. To see yourself, just click the camera icon in the upper right corner of the chat window.No need for an external mic like old web cams needed. This is a self contained unit and works remarkably well. Even in challenging lighting, say with the light in the ceiling, the HD-5000 works very well.The real issue for OS X users is the lack of chat clients that use the web cam. iChat works very well but Adium and even FaceBook's chat clients don't make use of it. There is a plug-in for Adium that promises to enable webcams but I'm not that brave. :) There are chat clients available that promise to use installed webcams so not all is lost. It will just take some research to find a client you like and connects with the services you and your friends use.For Windows users, I'm sorry but I don't use Windows. I've been using this camera for a couple months now. It's a decent buy for under $30 but it's not perfect. The image and sound quality are generally quite good but the auto focus is very temperamental. While video chatting, the image frequently goes in an out of focus when I move. Another feature that could use a better design is the mount. While the flexible rubber piece can be bent into different shapes, none of possible adjustments allow the camera to sit securely on top of my monitor. I actually had to tape the mount on my monitor so the camera doesn't fall off it the cable got tugged on. All in all, for the price and functionality of this webcam, I am satisfied with the purchase.

What more could a simpleton like me need. Easy to set up and never had an issue. It does video chat on Skype well and my 10 year old cousin had hours of fun with the face altering software that came with the camera (so did i). That's all i need from a webcam.It lost one star for the mount, its a little unstable and can be awkward when trying to get it to stay still on top of my screen. But that is a minor flaw.

I go straight to the problem, the autofocus. Yes, you can turn it off, but you have to do it all the time, cause when you restart your PC the autofocus is back there. You have to disable it all the time and it's so, so annoying!I hope in the near future comes a permanent, and better solution.Reading the previous reviews I thought the problem was easy to fix but it is not at all. A permanent solution still needs to be found! If all of you readers find it, please let me know!If I knew this since the beginning I don't know if I would still purchase this webcam.But I have to say that without the autofocus problem, the model would be very good, for the quality of video and sound. And also very competitive with the price.

I bought this webcam for my grandmother. It was easy to install and the quality was very good. I especially liked the button on top though i wish it was programable or at least opened the default messenger app instead of just msn, but it makes it easy for her to contact us if all she has to do is press a button. It's small compact and it works, if you need a cheap webcam this is a good choice.

Very easy to install on the computer and it focus' by itself in all types of light as well as when the person is moving.
