I bought this and put it in husband's stocking for Christmas specifically for setting up Skype so that we could talk to and see the grandkids. It works just fine!

Wife need a camera to participate in online video discussions with her masters classmates. This camera works well for video conferencing. We like that it can be mounted on a tripod as well.

Things have probably changed since I purchased (and returned) this webcam. Like others have said, the autofocus is horrible and I could not get it to work with 2 Windows 7 computers. I throughly know my way around a computer and was surprised that something made by Microsoft would not work with Windows and had no support for it! I purchased a Logitech webcam instead and it works great.

My husband and I were very disappointed in this product. It only lasted a few months with just a few hours of Skype time, then it broke. We tried to re-install the program on multiple computers but the camera would not work. When we attempted to return, the policy had expired after 30 days from purchase. We will not buy any kind of product like this again!

I am currently using LifeCam for Skyping my mother. She's borrowing my Creative Labs Live! Cam Video IM Ultra 1.3MP Webcam, which I love. LifeCam is a good webcam, but it just doesn't compare.OUT OF THE BOXI would normally just stick this webcam in the USB port and start using it, but it came with a cardboard tag over the USB plug instructing me to install the CD first, which was a pain, but I did. It was easy to do.I quickly tried to mount the LifeCam onto my monitor. It didn't mount well at first, when I tried to do it as instructed on the instruction manual (bend foot into a wide U shape). I then tried it in an L shape and pressed the bottom bend of the L to the back of my monitor so that the weight of the foot is holding my webcam down. That works better.On the table, it's great. Bend the foot into a C shape. The rubber food provides weight and traction to keep it in one spot.The head of the webcam does not freely swivel like my Live! Cam. That is a drawback, in my opinion. It is not easy for me to balance the webcam on my monitor in any other manner than what I have described, which means I have very limited angles when it is mounted on my monitor.SOFTWAREThe LifeCam software gives us the ability to do video and sound capture and save it to a file. There are special effects that can add a mask or change our heads to alien shapes. Only one effect is possible at a time.Also included are controls for the LifeCam. When True Color is activated (it is by default), it will constantly readjust the focus, lighting and color. I find that highly annoying, since this causes a lot of flickering and blurring as the webcam adjusts. I turn it off and then go into "properties" to TURN OFF ALL THE AUTO ADJUST FEATURES. That gives me a more stable image.VIDEO QUALITYOnce I've got True Color turned off and the properties manually set as I like (saturation, white balance, etc.), the webcam image is great. I don't have any problems with it. My number one tip for this product: **TURN OFF AUTO FOCUS**.SOUNDWhen I test sound on Skype, it works well. It's also good when I use the audio capture feature of the software.Sound quality when Skyping is a problem, though. I'm not sure why, as my mom cannot seem to verbalize the problem. In comparison, my mom only uses the mic that comes with her Live! Cam and her computer speakers and we can hear her just fine.When I switch gears and Skype with just the LifeCam and a headset, she can hear me well.PROS:+ foot has weight and grip for desktop use+ picture quality is goodCONS:- head doesn't swivel freely- mic may not work well for SkypeSUMMARYThis webcam isn't bad, it's just not great. Given the choice between LifeCam and Live! Cam, I would choose the latter.Live! Cam has a better monitor mount and the head swivels to just about any angle. It doesn't sit on the desk as well, but I don't use it on my desk. And lastly, Live! Cam seems to have a better mic for Skyping. We have no problems hearing my mom when she's using it.

I got this for my wife to use on our desktop pc to Skype her sister and haven't had any major issues. I have used the video record to send little feeds to friends who don't Skype.

I always preferred MS multimedia periferals as they usually very smoothly work with Windows and LifeCam HD-6000 is not an exception. Highly recommended for quality and portability.

This is my first webcam, purchased so I can use skype. The video is great, as well as the sound/mic. It's easy to take videos or still pics as well. Highly recommend it!

This is a good camera and there is ALMOST nothing wrong with it, but there's a button on the top that should probably open a photo application, and it does nothing... absolutely nothing.

Bought this item so we could skype with the grandparents out of state. So far it has worked perfectly. They are able to see us clearly and there is a little extra wire that allows us to move it around some when necessary.

I purchased this for my home computer as I was going away for 3 weeks for some training and wanted a way to stay in touch with my family. It was easy to setup, the picture is clear and is user friendly. The only thing that would make it 5 stars is a better way to secure the camera to the top of a monitor without moving side to side.

I have used this for over 3 years and it has been working perfectly. works pretty well in low light. definitely better than the inbuilt laptop cameras.

Its amazing how low quality the webcams on laptops are! With this little camera you can make programs like Skype really great! The only criticism I have is that the button on top of the camera only leads you to Microsoft Messenger!

one of my friends has a logitech it smears the picture when you move to fast. I got this so I could record myself dancing HAHAHA. (its helped me improve my breakin moves) and it doesnt smear when I go into liquid pop moves.
