Overall, it's a good little camera but for one rather significant fault - the auto focus. For no apparent reason, it will begin to focus until the picture is blurred.

Length:: 2:15 MinsSo this is the best WEBCAM I've ever had for sure, however I think there is a lot of progress to be made as far as the auto-focus technology goes.Regardless, the PROS & CONS! :)PROS------Very high quality video in proper lighting.Great sound quality (so far).Cool video effects come with camera!Easy to setup.Very small in size & reasonably shaped.Obvious on/off indicator.Cons------Blurs seemingly randomly.

Does not do what it is supposed to do. Attached to a W7 64bit computer freshly setup and after several hours of attempting to get it to work I gave up. Downloaded all the latest software from MS as well as the latest driver for this software. Good luck with the driver page on MS as it is very poorly put together and hard to determine just what you should utilize. Purchased because I thought that since it was Microsoft it would work with their software. It does not. No support and no way to get it to work. Replaced with a Logitech Webcam which set up easily and works flawlessly. The LifeCam is not worth purchasing.

Provides an ok picture, but it should not be used with laptops.A known bug with this is that the antennas of many laptops are in the top of the display, right where this device clips on.Other devices like logitech - provide some shielding so that the wifi antenna doesn't interfere with the audio from the microphone.This microsoft device, however, picks up a tremendous amount of static because of interference from the laptop antenna.Microsoft offered a full refund immediately and stated that this is a known issue.

Overall nice high quality camera except its constant focusing is seldom irritating a bit. Very good camera and the resolution is high quality. A very good buy for the money.

I had to buy a webcam because the built in one in my laptop quit working. I ordered this because it was a familiar brand and cheap.I found this unit clips easily to the lid of my laptop and the picture & sound are excellent. The CD that comes with it though certified for Vista, will not work on Windows 7 though technically it should.However, a screen appears that re-directs you to the Microsoft and it downloads and installs updated software in minutes.This was just a minor nuisance bearing mind how well this thing works!Strange thing is, after running a utility program, I got my built in webcam to work again but I much prefer this one and continue to use it.This really is a steal for the price, why pay more when you get a sharp picture and excellent sound out of this unit!

This is my first webcam. My main requirement was a better picture quality than I've seen from friends' cameras in the $15-20 price range, so I looked at some reviews and chose this model. The webcam arrived yesterday, it installed very easily, and I used it for 3 hours on Skype. I was really pleased with the picture quality, and my contact didn't mention any issue with the built-in microphone. I checked my image many times, and there was no distortion or freakish looks. So far, I've only used it in the evening with a 60 watt lamp placed 4.5 feet to my left supplementing the ambient light from the monitor, and it was plenty of light to see me and the room itself in detail. The picture was also visible with no light other than from the monitor, though skin tone was darker. The mount is a flexible, rubberized bracket, and works extremely well on my flat panel monitor. It can be aimed, repositioned, and re-aimed easily by hand; but on the potential down-side, it merely 'sits' upon, rather than being 'secured', so if someone knocking or jarring the monitor could be an issue in your environment, I suppose the cam could be knocked off. [I didn't test this.] This is not an issue for me, however, and the 'belly' side has some traction-ridges, while the front below the cam itself has a small bar that catches the front of the monitor. It can also be placed to sit on the desk, etc. The cam can also be re-aimed and zoomed in or out using the software included, via a simple screen interface with directional arrows and +/- buttons. Overall, there is nothing that could make me any happier with this webcam, and in my opinion it is an excellent product and value for $34. [It does sell for more in some stores, so I recommend purchasing it from amazon.]

The product is actuely great. Only issue is that it goes blurry alot with auto focus no matter how still you are, with no way to fix it.

The autofocus is problematic, as other reviewers have indicated. But overall this is an inexpensive and very decent webcam option. If you are not worried about imperfect focus, an affordable and easy to use option.

Very good product, especially for the price. I purchased 2 of them so we had one had home and our daughter had one at college. Plus other family members use them so we can keep in touch around the SE. Setup was easy and it worked almost immediately, with some tweaking, but very easy to do. I would recommend this small compact camera to anyone looking for an inexpensive way to utilize video communication on a personal nature.

I selected the webcam under the expectation that, as a Microsoft product, we wouldn'r run into software compatibility issues, and becasue of the flexible mount. The unit did install right away with no problems, although the sound has cut out some times. I am not sure whether the sound issue relates to the product's software or to Skype. The flexible mount is a great simple solution. We use it to sit on top of our flat screen monitor.

This camera is OK for an entry level camera, like if you need one just for chatting and your computer doesn't have one; however, if you want a clear picture or motion that isn't choppy and fuzzy you need to get a higher quality camera.

Short and sweet review:(1) If you want top-of-the-line technology to use with business-level functions, this is not the cam for you.(2) If you just want to chat with friends and take easy (lower quality) images for social networking sites? This is the cam for you.Read the product description. It's quite accurate.For the price? An excellent deal. I'd buy another. If I needed another.

This camera is nice, comes with pretty good out of the box software/drivers, and is a great deal at its price. The only flaw I've found with it is that it FREQUENTLY loses focus, even when I'm just sitting in my chair Skyping with someone, it will just randomly and frequently blur, and then auto-focus itself. I've read many other reviews online that report the same issue. This camera would have received a 5/5 star if it had simply included an option to manually turn off the auto-focus feature.

I bought this webcam for my folks, primarily for Skyping.First off, the image quality of the camera is fantastic, especially for the price. Very, very satisfied from that perspective. My mother was able to install the camera and run it out of the box with Skype, which is another plus. The auto-focus feature is nice, in that she can be moving around the room and stay in focus.While you can get better resolution cameras for more, I don't think that is necessary if web-chatting is the purpose (rather than producing web videos).One star docked for somewhat resource intensive video recording (as compared to the bulit in cameras on my two laptops). this may be a problem for less powerful computers.Microphone is perfectly adequate for clear chatting. Very litte in the way of distortion or echo.

I was looking for a simple camera to use with Skype to see my new grandson. This webcam had a lot of four and five star reviews so I bought it. The software installation was a nightmare on my XP machine and it just didn't work. I went back and reviewed all of the one star reviews and learned that everyone using XP had the same problem. Add one more to the list. The story doesn't end there. It took hours to install and hours to uninstall. The process recommended I install something called Live Essentials, another 200 meg program that also doesn't work and locked up my PC running an endless loop script. After uninstalling it must have deleted a bunch of Windows security files as my PC went right into auto update to get 25 Microsoft security files for applications going back to 2002. My PC runs like a slug now and I'm getting a bunch of bogus runtime errors. I may end of having to do a full restore of my system. Needless to say the webcam is on its way back to Amazon.

We purchased this as an additional web-cam for our household. I have the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 / QuickCam Pro 9000 which we use on our laptops, but we were looking for one to stay put on the desktop. After searching reviews and prices I settled on the Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000.Install and set-up was easy. The first time using it wasn't the best, but after tweaking some of the settings we got to where we were satisfied with both the sound and image. I would say that if you are just looking for a basic, easy to use web-cam at a very reasonable price, this is a very good option. But if you're going to be using it a lot and want better sound, picture and features there are better ones out there.

I'm not one to review products I have purchased, but I decided to do so this time due to the positive remarks my son had for this item that I had given to him as a gift. Within a day or so, he sent a video/audio message to me via my email account. The video and audio performance of the LifeCam VX-5000 is exemplary. I am thoroughly impressed with the clarity of the sound and the quality of the video functionality. As always, Amazon.com came through with the right product at a very good price. The item was well packaged and received promptly. Most users would most likely rate the unit a 5 star overall...I would easily grade it as a B+ without hesitation.

This webacam is just what I needed. It's compact enough to carry around while traveling, discreet, and has a retractable lens for protection. It also includes a carrying case. The specifications are very nice, software is upgradeable and Microsoft's hardware tech support is so great!I guess the only bad thing for this camera is Microsoft's effort to push you to use it's instant messaging software as evidenced by the web call button on top. If you accidentally push it, it will prompt you to install Windows messenger first which could be a bit annoying sometimes.I use it with Yahoo! messenger and never gave me any problems. The visual effects sofware is very entertaining. You can also use it for photo capture, sound, and video recording.Overall, this webcam is highly recommended for people without any built-in cameras on their notebook computers.

I'm pretty impressed with this little product. It installed easily and worked with skype (and Google Voice) right out of the box. The picture is just fine. Considering the upload speed that most people have on DSL or cable, you are probably not going to even use this at full quality for internet chats. Unless you are recording product reviews or other internet video you will be just fine with this model.
