Over all it is not an bad cam. Just that I have to unplug it n plug back quite a lot to make it work for MSN. Video is pretty clear though.

This webcam is the best that I've used. It has a high MP level so the picture is really good. The problem with it is that the clip is pretty small.

If you read the description of this item, it does exactly what it says it does. It's not the greatest cam in the world, but if you just want to get on every once in a while and say hello to family members, then this will work. It would get 5 stars if it clipped to the monitor a little better. Simple to use and install.

I use this in conjunction with Windows Messenger, as it was intended, and it works beautifully. If I've any complaints, it's that the picture is so good that it brings home my need to get more exercise!

Our family has been using the Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000 for weeks now, and we are very pleased with it. We also have a Microsoft VX-1000 and can say that this VX-5000 is definitely higher quality, and the sound is better.The video is pretty clear, though don't be expecting a crystal clear picture on the receiving end. I only know this because my kids and I get on the desktop computer and my laptop and "video" back and forth lolThe microphone works great. I like how this works as our microphone in other applications also.Love the YouCam software. We have so much fun making crazy videos or taking snapshots with super huge eyes, huge noses, etc.The base is bendable, which I thought I would like a lot better, but it's just okay. It always seems like it's going to fall off the monitor, cause it's just resting on it.Overall, I'm very pleased with the webcam - especially for the price.

One of my main objectives in getting a camera was to have a clear picture in lower light and to have a wider angle view than my previous camera. I do not like it when I have to have the camera placed three feet away to see more than just my face on the screen. When I read that there was a zoom on this camera I figured this camera would fit the bill. It turns out that you can zoom in quite a bit to see my face even closer but the wide angle capabilities are not very good. The lighting does seem to be adjustable to an acceptable level using the software. Overall, I expected more from this camera but maybe I am just expecting too much.

The software is nothing very useful to me. This works well with the MSN Live Messenger fine. Resolution seems fine and this is mostly a satisfying camera as a webcam. If you want to use this to discretely view things using it as a streaming webcam the lighted microsoft emblem might draw attention to this camera. Alternately that informs you that the thing is working as well, so depending on your needs, that may be good or bad.I would buy this again.

This webcam works well and for the price on Amazon was a real bargain compared to Walmart, which wanted nearly double. Video quality is very good, setup easy and the software that comes with it works well and has lots of special effects. I would buy again.

I bought two of these webcams - one for my parents and one for me. When I tried to install the software on my parents' computer, the installation would not complete. I went to the Microsoft Support web site, it was apparent that many people have this problem. There were five or six possible solutions listed. During the process of trying them all and not having any success, I tried to call the Microsoft support phone number. They told me they could not help me because there was no warranty on the product. A brand new webcam with known software problems and they refused to help me.I finally got the webcam to work on my parents' computer. I spent hours installing it. Now I'm trying to install the software on my computer trying all the same suggestions from the MS web site and still no luck. I have spent even more hours on my computer.Don't buy this webcam. It will only frustrate you and make you hate Microsoft.

but > I had to download the latest drivers from [...] making sure it was vista x64. It was ver.2.04 to be exact. The drivers that came with it was insufficient needless to say dont use it. Besides the new driver/software is better and has more dashboard effects which are far more enjoyable. The camera quality is couple of notches better than the vx-3000 which I also have but gave away to my folks. But@ 640x480 resolution they are very similar maybe its just me or maybe I just dont notice the wide angle at that setting. either way both of them are great cams. I bought a $20 offbrand webcam it was great but when I got the vx3000 I noticed it was slow on refresh. I also tinkered with the registry to modify the cam button to launch Yahoo Messenger (its tricky). I tried to regedit launch Skype to but failed. Anyways a great cam / too bad I didnt buy it from Amazon as I got it half off elsewhere.

The MS LifeCam is a decent webcam. It's better for laptop use than desktop because of the bendable base. I have two other Creative webcams, both w/ 1.3 MPixel resolution, and more expensive; But this one works better. You don't need the CD, so don't bother installing the software that comes with it. The audio works well also. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a webcam.

The picture quality is very good. I really do not use the on board microphone as I have a high quality microphone already. I just use this for the Skype and Yahoo Messenger calls and I am pretty happy with the video quality.

This web cam was super easy to install and use and the interface is a no brainer (even a caveman can do it).It sits on top of my LCD monitor with nothing but the camera in view and the little blue light tells you when its on. The mic is sensitive so you dont have to yell just talk in a normal conversational voice. I am going to buy another and have already recommended it to others.

Basics - this webcam has great resolution and good fps (this also depends on your computer - with my Core 2 Quad, I am able to capture 800x600 at 24fps with no problem - fluid motion without any blurring).Bonus - the software is clean and very funny! For instance, the software can track your eyes and simulate a pair of sunglasses on you - follow you when you shake or turn your head - and this is done on the driver level so it is real time in all your video chat!Bottomline - it is worth the money, even at this economic downturn.

I ordered one of these web cams first from a different retailer a few weeks back; and was very pleased at how easily the software installed, and how well it integrates with Windows Live (MSN) Messenger. Picture quality is very good, and built in mic works well too. I now cam with friends overseas - the perfect solution.I liked it so well - I ordered another one from Amazon to use with my laptop, so I won't have to keep moving it around. Also works with all applications, including Windows Movie Maker.

Installed in my computer running xp in no time but the 2 i bought for gifts seemed like i got lemons. 1 took forever to install maybe about 1 hour but the other would not install in my sisters computer if i got on my knees and begged. She ran the software disc 4 times before it would install then only the audio worked, no video at all. She uninstalled it and tried again and could not install it at all this time. Seems microsoft released the software with a few glitches in it. Tried the download from their website but got the same results so she's returning it and going to try something else.

hi just so you know, this is the very first web camera that I have purchased...I am not that happy with it! Its speacial features can ONLY be accessed via Window Live for one,Windows live on my computer wasnt accepting the camera, so I called the company and apparently I have to disable all other start up programs each and every time I use it!!! CrazyAlso, I am not that impressed with the picture quality...Good things about this camera are that it has (when working) neat faces you can use while talking,but like I said when working as it sometimes doesnt even work with Window live...

I received this Microsoft Lifecam web cam with expectations of it being better in everyway than my old one from several years ago. Wow what a leap from one just a couple of years ago.PROS: The cost of the camera is less than what I paid for one a couple of years ago but is much clearer. The fact that the camera can be mounted almost anywhere is awsome. I hang mine from the top of my laptop screen. The video quality is very good but frame rate could use some speed- ing up for fast movement. I like that you can pan and tilt but won't really use that too much.NEG: The microphone is abit muffled at times. May be just me though. As mentioned earlier the frame rate could be a little faster for quick movements.I would recommend this camera to anyone that does not expect high def results. For the price it is really a great web cam!

After having to return several cameras that I couldn't get to work on my machine, it was a relief to get this one and have it work perfectly from the get-go. The pixel resolution isn't the greatest, but I use it just for video chatting with my friends who live far away.

Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000Great value! The MS LifeCam VX-1000 doesn't claim to do much but it does everything that it claims to. We bought it to be able to talk with and see our son (in China) using Skype. The resolution isn't great but neither is it bad. The microphone works fine, too.

This cam works as a charm , I have a Dell WinXP sp2 machine and after reading some bad reviews about the software , was skeptical, but installation was not much of a hassle. While installing the CD it did automatically downloads a bunch of unnecessary crap that slowed my computer down considerably every time I booted up my computer, so need to remove those programs from loading on boot-up, otherwise it works fine as advertised .finally: Good Price for basic and good webcam.

Set aside a decent amount of time to get started with this camera, as installing the software took nearly an hour on a reasonably fast computer. The installer doesn't give any time estimates, and the progress meter fills up and resets probably a dozen times during the course of the installation, so you have no idea how far in you actually are.Once installed, though, the camera and software seem reasonably simple. Press the button on top of the camera and it launches MSN Messenger and asks you which of your contacts with whom you'd like to initiate a video chat. Quick and easy.

I'm a deployed soldier and bought this webcam to keep in touch with my girlfriend back home. She got it and put the install cd in and waited, and waited, and waited. But it would not install. I'm extremely unhappy with this product and wish I hadn't wasted my hard-earned money on it.

I have a Dell computer running XP and the Microsoft camera works flawlessly with this configuratiion. The built-in microphone would work better if it were a little closer but then the camera would be too close. All in all its a great camera for the money.

For the price it was a good buy. Video is good, but a little jerky. That probably has more to do with the laptop I am using it with not the LifeCam. Focus and sound were good. So far I like it.

This product fully met my expectations. It arrived quickly via Amazon .com, was easy to install, and was reasonable priced including shipping and handling. The product offers still shots, microphone, and videos. (As an aside, it works best with Google Chrome/Google Chat and Skype. I would recommend it to others.

My Microsoft Lifecam has offered such a fun and efficient way to be in daily VISUAL contact with my grandson. Hearing his voice is wonderful, but actually seeing his trucks and books and "stuff" has no comparison, except a real live visit. I've had not one problem with my Lifecam and have purchased several for other family members!

I got this webcam for my birthday. First of all, the accompanying software will not install on Windows XP 64-bit edition. The CD does contain drivers for Windows XP 64-bit, but I never got them to work (and I am an IT professional). The installation seemed work fine, but everytime I rebooted my computer, it detected the camera as new hardware. Microsoft's support requires you to first pay $30, before they will lift a finger. No way I would do that on a $50 product. On a laptop with Windows XP 32-edition, it did not want to work with Microsoft's own Messenger software. So we sent it back and got a Logitech Pro 9000 instead. That one worked straight away.

Got this cam for my son and we both agree that we like the Logitech cams better. The main reason is the built-in connectivity to the Microsoft Live Messenger and all the extra adware "bloat" that is installed. Just more crud-ware that takes extra time to remove or disable on your system. The picture is average and does not look as good as the logitech cam that we have connected to another PC(both are 1.3 megapixel). If not for the great price here on Amazon we would have never even considered buying this cam.

I bought six of these for my entire family, because everyone lives so far away. It is great we can see each other whenever we want and everyone has been asble to see the 2 new babies. It was so easy to hook up and use. Most of my family is pretty technology challenged and no one has had a problem yet. It is a great picture and sound.

I purchased this webcam thinking microsoft would offer a quality product. My first one had a picture but everyone on Skype complained of a loud, intermittent static noise. The person (anthembookseller) sent me a replacement which seemed to be better at first, but produced the same loud static sound followed by intermittent total sound loss. I suspect something is wrong with the wiring in the cord as moving the wire changes sound , noise, and silence. I have multiple usb ports and the results are the same in every port.I'm giving up on this webcam and will buy the cheap one my son bought at Target which works perfectly.

Have no fear buying this webcam if the following is all you are looking for......1. It's dirt simple to use and requires no focus from 2' thru 10'2. The bendable clip adjusts to fit every possible situation but when it's setting on a flat surface like a desktop it is very unstable. Why, because the wire going to it weighs more than the webcam itself and it flops all over the place. It is great if it is cliped onto something like a laptop or flat screen monitor. The video quality is perfact for general purpose viewing. I would buy again if the price is right. I paid below $20 each for two of them. My grandbaby looks great!

If you are considering this product, I would suggest that you be sure that your computer meets the high end of the specs. My system has a P4 running at 2GHz with 2 GB of RAM and the LifeCam constantly froze. I finally returned the VX-6000 and replaced it with the VX-1000 which ran fine and is performing well.

I would definitively recommend this product to all the users looking for a webcam. (note) If you don't have a USB 2.0 connection the video resolution is very bad, but if you have it just works great.
