----------------------------------------------------------UPDATED: January 23, 2012 (Update section below)----------------------------------------------------------Installed January 14, 2011 and still excellent. I expect this thing to last at least until December 21 this year, when of course the Mayans have scheduled the world for demolition. :PHere's my take on the TP-Link TL-WN722N Wireless USB Adapter:-------------POSITIVES:-------------** It really, really works like mad. ** I get constant download speeds of 12Mbps+, which is close the the max of my internet bandwidth.- It's very cheap cost-wise for the great performance it gives you- It's small(ish), though it will look big connected to your laptop- Comes with a 3' USB extension cable which I definitely recommend using. It helps position the device, and keeps it from crowding your laptop or from being destroyed by being knocked out of your PC's front USB port.- Has a diffused green LED under the white plastic to let you know it's working, instead of the blinding blue LEDs that everyone uses these days. The light turns off when it's not powered (like when you hit Standby on your PC). NOTE: It's still annoying in a dark room when I'm trying to sleep, but a few post-it notes helps that.- The software is relatively simple to install and use, and allows you to use other products to manage your WiFi instead.- The current driver, software, and documents come on a mini CD and are all up to date with what's available on TP-Link's web site- The documentation is good, but it could use some more detail.----------------------MINOR NEGATIVES:----------------------- The TP-LINK Wireless Client Utility is functional but could be more intuitive. A configuration "wizard" would be a good improvement for manual configs. (It has been updated as of Jan 5, 2012 - see below)- Manual configuration (which you need if your network is securely hidden and requires a pass code) isn't well-documented, though you will be able to get it to work with the document, and maybe a little trial and error. If your setup is totally open security-wise (this would be BAD), you will have no problem with the software.- Even if the driver is installed incorrectly, the client utility may report enough information to make you think it is installed. When in doubt, do a complete removal of the software and drivers and re-install.- The QSS software that comes with the device is ONLY usable with other TP-Link products. Don't bother installing it unless you have a TP-Link Router/Access Point that has QSS built in. (As of the client update on Jan. 5, 2012, it appears to be installed automatically)------------------------UPDATED 01-23-2012------------------------- I've kept track, and this device has worked well even with interference from Coronal Mass Ejections from the sun (sunspot activity), though I have noticed that the performance decreases (could be other things along that long internet path, as well).- I now have a TP-Link TL-WA901ND 2.0 Access Point, which this device works well with. Unfortunately is does NOT connect at the advertised "150Mbps" potential speed when it's configured to do so, but I never really expected it to. My max internet connection of 13Mbps is far below that high rating, anyway.- The latest WiFi utility for this device is up on TP-Link's web site as of Jan. 5, 2012, and I'm a bit disappointed with it. On the plus side, it is probably simpler to use - which is a good thing for most users, but it's been dumbed down to remove all of the extra connection info power users like me appreciate. The message windows are also annoying and the English grammar is sometimes embarrassingly wrong. It also looks a bit cheesy compared to the previous utility version. At least it works well.- It is difficult to tell if the actual hardware drivers have been updated, because software info on the page for this device is really incomplete. It looks like they are not updated since I originally posted this review.- I still benefit from disconnecting and reconnecting the device once in a great while, but the problem that causes the lowered performance could be my PC, the access point, or electromagnetic interference. Hard to say.- To date, 4 people were helpless in the face of my review - maybe it put them to sleep. Thanks very much to everyone who took the time to click "Yes".-----------------------------My installation experience-----------------------------A friend of mine needed a WiFi adapter since she moved to a location that wasn't wired, so I recommended this to her based on the great reviews it's received. She successfully and easily installed this device on her work laptop, and was extremely impressed with it's ability to drag a much better signal out of the almost inaccessible 802.11n WiFi router located down stairs, the signal of which is blocked by many walls and turns. She also needed to install the device on her personal PC. Unfortunately we spent hours over chat trying to get it install

I get this as my third network related TP-Link product, I get first a "TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N Gigabit Router" (Sorry the new form of amazon to write reviews byte me and I was unable to put the proper link). So this USB Adapter connects easily with the router all the indicators of connectivity are better than good across all my apartment, is an small 3 rooms place but everywhere the signal is strong.I get this to give wireless connectivity to my desktop computer and to this time (about a week) there is no complains about, just works as expected. This comes with an USB extension cable of 1 meter (40") that is enough to take the adapter outside of the back part of the computer to place in better position to take advantage of it high gain antenna.I'm using it on a windows 7 x64 machine, the installation was simple, you need to cancel the auto detect by windows and then use the driver disk that comes with the adapter, in my case I was unable to cancel the auto detect but It was simple to delete the new hardware found and the I use the driver CD.The driver CD will install a software that will auto-start with windows any time but will keep you informed about the quality of the connection and signal. The bottom side of the adapter has a hole that you can use to hang the adapter from a upper side and increase the quality of the signal, this was a really good surprise because allows to place the device in a variety of places in order to improve the connection quality if is needed. The High gain antenna that have the USB adapter is longer than the adapter itself, have great range of movement, you can rotate it 360° on its axis and max 90° of movement the side. Also you can detach the antenna that comes with the USB Adapter to put other bigger antenna, just in case you need that.Overall is a great Wi Fi Adapter, the speed provided is good enough for a home network, so I'm really happy with the TP-Link brand because this is the second piece of hardware I get from them that is cheap, but well done and works as expected.

Well, I got this to work, but had to go to the TP-Link website and download the latest driver to do so. At first, I thought I had gotten a faulty unit (like the Kingston memory I also ordered with this product). However, after installing and uninstalling the driver and utility 3 times that came with the adapter's installation disc (and running CCleaner registry cleaner and then restarting the computer after each uninstall/reinstall), I tried one last gasp before starting the return process with Amazon (as I had to do with the DOA memory). I downloaded and manually installed the correct driver (in my case, Windows 7 64-bit driver) and the first signs of life were finally seen from this adapter, the neat little blinking green LED activity light that had refused to illuminate until that point. This also cleared up the exclamation point next to the adapter within Device Manager.I did not install the utility that came with it, but fired up my AT&T Communications Manager for my USB aircard and the new wifi adapter was immediately recognized. I then turned on the wifi on my Samsung GS2 and once I entered my password it connected to the Internet without a hitch via Communications Manager's wifi console. I am writing and submitting this review over my phone's wifi hotspot and the new TP-Link TL-WN822N, so yes, it is working and working fast. But, 4 stars instead of 5 because others not as familiar with computers would have probably given up and been more frustrated than I was initially.Update: The driver I downloaded from the TP-Link site crashed my computer so badly on restart I had to reinstall using the Acer Recovery console because Windows refused to start or repair itself, and System Restore was no help either in the Repair menu. Granted, Windows threw up the Not Digitally signed message before I installed the driver, I've never had a problem with a driver that is not digitally signed, but evidently this driver does not like my system or is poorly written. How do I know this? After 2-3 hours of recovering the system because Windows would not start, repair or restore, as soon as I installed the TP-Link driver again, the computer immediately blue screened, restarted, informed me it had experienced a serious problem, it again would not repair, etc. as before, so once again back to the Acer Recovery console (on a computer that is not a week old!). Luckily, Acer's Recovery console does give the option to back up personal files, so all my pictures and downloads were saved as a backup. I'm sending this adapter back to Amazon with my DOA Kingston memory tomorrow.

Alright, so when I typed in "Wireless USB N Adapter," the top two choices was the TP-Link TL-WN722N and the Medialink - Wireless N USB Adapter. Truthfully, I first bought the Medialink because it has a near perfect 5 star review with over 1,340 reviews. That's astounding. And it holds true, I still use it on my other computers without a fail. Then I needed another USB N adapter for another desktop computer, the TP link was $5-6 cheaper depending on when you bought it. So I thought "hey, why not test this one out." It only has around 400 reviews, but all share satisfaction. But I wanted to do more than give a 5 star review and say, "it works. whatever."Since I'm Asian, and time is nonexistent to me. I decided how fast and how well these adapters worked.I used Speedtest.net to get the numbers, and note that Wi-fi can fluctuate a lot depending on your provider. So these aren't factual scientific solid information. Just a observation using averages to conclude which worked "better."Here are the numbers I got using the TP-LINK:23 dl/1.79 up20.26 dl/ 1.79 up p2324.45 dl/ 1.77up p2219/32 dl/ 1/79up p2721.13 dl/1.83 up p2421.67 dl/1.80 up p2321.13 dl/1.79 up p2417 dl/ 1.63 up p2413 dl/1.79 up p2410.44 dl/1.75 up p2915.79 dl/1.80 p2315.79 dl/1.80 p2312.77 dl/1.71 p2315.60 dl/1.82 up p2316.26 dl/1.82 up p2320.92 dl/1.75 up p2320.54 dl/1.75 up p2319.82 dl/1.74 up p2621.36dl/1.74 up p21DL = DOWNLOAD UP = UPLOAD P = PingAnd here were the numbers for the Medialink:18.03 dl/1.7515.55 dl/1.75 up p2312.50 dl/1.73 p2219.10 dl/1.73 p2217.49 dl/1.64 up16.97 dl/1.73 up p2117.49 dl/1.72 up p2320.24 dl/1.74 up p2120.10 dl/1.80 up p2615.07 dl/1.80 up p2217.35 dl/1.81 up p2615.55 dl/1.75 up p2312.50 dl/1.73 p2219.10 dl/1.73 p2217.49 dl/1.64 up16.97 dl/1.73 up p2120.24 dl/1.74 up p2120.10 dl/1.80 up p2619.10 dl/1.73 p2217.49 dl/1.64 up16.97 dl/1.73 up p21I tried to do an even average of 21 tries. But a human can only handle so much repetitive clicking. So as you can see, I gave this TP-Link 5 stars because even though both were great and worked flawlessly with Windows 7 (didn't even have to use the CD). The medialink edge out a couple more MBs during testing. Mostly likely due to the antenna it has. Providing a greater range than the media link. The two devices were tested using the same computer and circumstance (e.g not moved close to the router)However, I do give points to Medialink for providing a nifty looking base. (they both come with USB extenders) But in all honestly, it really comes down to aesthetics and whether or not you really care about 2 more MBs reaching you. I like 'em both, but I give this one an overall winner.- Cheaper-"longer" range = faster speeds- And it's a pretty white cooler. There you go, just my two cents....and then some.

First off, if you think this is the model that comes with the cradle, it's not. That model is TL-WN422GC. This model is TL-WN422G. TL-WN422GC is listed as discontinued on TP-Link's site, so good luck finding it. I didn't double check the model numbers before ordering, but hey, we all make mistakes.I get a very good connection with this Wi-Fi adapter. I haven't measured signal strength in dBm, but I consistently get all five bars, four on occasion. My wireless router is in another room, so the signal has some walls to go through. There is an external antenna that can adjust to point in pretty much any direction, and it's removable, so you can get other antennas to replace it with, depending on your needs. WPA2 encryption is a must nowadays. Don't settle for less, though if your router doesn't support it, it also supports WPA and WEP. If you only have WEP, I strongly suggest getting a new router. It comes with a USB extension cable, so there's no need to worry about blocking off adjacent ports. However, some might not like this and prefer something with a smaller form factor, as well as a dust cap that sticks with the adapter instead of an individual piece, which is easily lost. Many adapters are like this though. It has gap at the end to attach it to a keyring/keychain. When working properly, it has a pleasant, large, green LED as an activity indicator light. None of that obnoxious blue, thank goodness. This adapter has a problem resuming many times from suspend and hibernation modes. I frequently have to disconnect and reconnect it from the USB cord to get it working again, sometimes that doesn't work and I have to reboot before I'll get a signal. It's a common annoyance since the USB extension cable makes it easy to pull out, but this would otherwise be unacceptable. There is no driver fix for this. However, I haven't looked for any alternative solutions online.I'd have to give it four stars. That disconnecting and reconnecting is a pain in the butt. I'm also bummed it wasn't the cradle model, but I'm not factoring that into my score. Amazon, you really need to implement some moderation regarding product image accuracy.Always cross-reference model numbers at the company's site before buying.

After doing tons of reading on Amazon about which adapters were the best for a reasonable price, I always came back to this one. The only reason I was hesitant to buy it was because numerous people have complained that it simply doesn't work with Windows 7 64 bit. I am here to personally attest that in my particular case, it works perfectly fine. I own an HP Pavilion DM1Z Laptop with windows 7 64 bit with a 1.65 GHZ AMD processor, and the adapter works excellent on it. I have yet to encounter any problems.Set up was very easy, and once the drivers were installed, the computer automatically recognized (and still continues to do so) the adapter as soon as it was plugged in. When I am in an area with WiFi, I simply choose which adapter I wish to use (either the built in one that's already in the computer, or the TP Link that's plugged in via USB).In other words, the computer automatically recognizes the adapter when I plug it in, and it works fine. It does not conflict with any other programs. So, I don't know why it doesn't work with some windows 7 64 bit systems, but I do know that it works fine with mine, and that is after almost 6 months of owning it.As far as reception goes, it picks up wifi signals little differently than the built in adapter that's already in the computer. Whenever I look at how many bars the built in adapter is picking up, it's always the same or similar to the TP link adapter. With that being said however, the one nicer thing about the TP link adapter is that it comes with a cable which can kind of act as an antenna depending on the circumstance, sometimes picking up a little bit more wifi than would otherwise be possible. An example of this is when I was in the room of a large building and could not get good enough reception to connect to the internet, so I plugged the TP link into the USB cable, and then stuck it out the window, offering me just enough connectivity to surf the web and do what I needed to do.

I had high hopes for this little dongle, but reviews maybe set the bar a smidge too high. That said, it's a great purchase.I bought it with the hope of amplifying signal reception on my laptop. It doesn't do that. In my living room, I get 4 bars with my laptop, and in my bedroom 1-2. I tried plugging this baby in and while the ease of use is indeed great (lit right up, installed drivers automatically, went right to work), I got no more bars in the bedroom with the antenna than without it.HOWEVER, I put the TP-Link to use on a desktop machine that previously had no connectivity, and for that purpose, it's great. I'm very happy with the purchase. So, if you're hoping to amplify your laptop signal... my experience has been that it's no more powerful than a decent laptop's built-in receiver. Now, I should note that my laptop is newish -- bought November 2010 -- so maybe it's wireless receiver is already pretty good, and if you are trying to get a better signal for an older laptop, you might experience a bump in your signal by using this dongle. ALSO, while the signal remains low on my desktop machine (2 bars) it has been VERY stable and reliable, even when streaming video on Hulu. So that's noteworthy. Maybe a low signal isn't the biggest deal in the world, as long as it's stable!Overall - I'd say you really can't go wrong for the money, as long as you know what it's good for. I did a lot of comparison shopping before picking this one and here's the overview:A++ for ease of use and basic functionality -- converting an offline device into a wireless device works great. (Note, installing drivers was a breeze both with the laptop -- which automatically pulled the drivers off the internet since it was online -- and the desktop machine, which installed off the included CD.)C for extra signal pick-up relative to a decent quality modern laptop. Got the same number of bars on my laptop with/without the dongle.A for signal reliability (signal reliability might in fact be better than the laptop - given equal # bars - I haven't done enough comparison of the relative stability of the signal between the laptop and the dongle with the low signal strength - but so far I've never gotten better than "Low" signal strength from the dongle, and yet I've never had my connectivity fail!).A+ for sleek design -- has antenna, but it's not unwieldy, so you can plug it directly into a laptop or desktop USB port without its being a nuisance, or you can connect it to an extension cable (which I had to do simply because the signal behind the desktop machine was only one bar, whereas sitting on top of the desk was two bars) -- ***IT DOES COME WITH A SHORT (maybe 2 or 3 feet?) USB EXTENSION CABLE to reach from a machine situated under a desk, up to the top of the desk, let's say.A++ for price -- Srsly cheap for such a handsome and functional little piece of machinery. I'd say if you are looking to improve upon your (already quality) laptop sensitivity, probably look at other dongles with clunkier antennae, but if you want to convert an offline (or irritatingly wired) machine into a wireless machine, AND/OR improve the signal STABILITY for a laptop that tends to lose its connectivity frequently due to low signal reception, then this little number is probably a good bet.

I have to give this adapter even less than one star, and I don't normally do that unless something makes me want to split my head open.I installed this adapter (latest driver direct from TP Link's website) on two separate Windows 7 64-bit systems (Win 7 Home Premium edition). Trying to connect to my home's Wireless G router. No go, no matter what.In theory, here's how it should work. You plug it in, and it says "driver not successfully installed." Ok, no big deal. Some drivers are not plug-n-play (plug-n-use, I should say), when it comes to a 64-bit operating system. No problem. After plugging it in, I ran the setup for the latest driver (November 2011 is the most current driver as I write this review). Windows does its typical "this device has not passed logo testing" stuff, and you click "install anyway"... no big deal, right? Wrong. It goes through the installation process just fine. To be fair, it DOES install the driver and the adapter is recognized by Windows (in Device Manager). But, there's one huge problem--- it does not scan any in-range networks, like a typical wireless adapter should do. It constantly says in the bottom right corner, if you hover your mouse over the taskbar icon, "No Connections Are Available." Yes, I tried the Troubleshooter. No go.It does not, and will not work. I spent three solid hours on two separate systems. No dice. Now here's a chuckle... a similar, older USB wireless adapter from 2007 (wireless-G) works flawlessly. Of course, I couldn't just plug-n-use that one, either.... that one needs a driver update for Win7 64-bit. No big deal. Easy. Driver installed, networks scanned. Connected within seconds. But not with this.I am happily returning this to amazon, and putting my store credit into something else that will work.Stay away from this adapter. I know there are over 200 5-star reviews as I write this, but I don't think most of these people are on Windows 7 64-bit.If any of you know of any workaround to my problem, please, feel free to comment. A quick web search showed that other 64-bit users were experiencing the same problem (from early 2011 to the present). So it's definitely not just my two systems. And again, I'm a computer tech. I know what I'm doing. This just will NOT work, under any circumstance.Onward and upward (funny how older adapters work without one hiccup... and by the way, this same older 2007 wireless-G adapter works on 6 separate Windows 7 64-bit systems, as well as XP Pro, Vista 32 and 64-bit, and Windows 7 32-bit... without any headaches.)As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm am quite pleased with this product as it meets my criteria quite well. I was looking for an adapter for my home office so that I had a nice quick link to my home server, and to make use of my external bandwidth (which has exceed the speed of my g network for the first time ever!).My criteria1) I did not care about size as I was really only using it in this one location2) I wanted to get a maximum speed out of my link3) The device needed to be relatively easy to set up with the 3.0+ kernels as well as some older ones (one pc srunning ubuntu 10.04).I first got the Asus n-13 thinking naively that it would "work" best with my asus n-16 router and they stated linux support. Unfortunately asus chose another chip for their newer dongles so I was out of luck in 10.04 (it would freeze my desktop on removal as well 0 nice). That was quickly returned and I gave this a try because it has an atheros chip reported as well supported under Linux (via the ath9k_htc module)The model I received was the TL-WN822N ver 2.0. It worked out of the box with 64 and 32-bit ubuntu 12.04 and 64-bit 10.04. Windows support seems strong though I did not test that yet.I get a "reported" connection speed of 300 Mbit/s to my asus n-16 router at about 40 feet, one floor and two walls. The reported speed is not so useful. I used iperf to a both a wired network machine and to my router consistently shows about a 194Mbit/s to 90 Mbit/s throughout the day without anyone using the wifi. In practical terms its about 19.4MBytes/s to 10.3 MBytes/s which slightly exceeds my write speed on my old server external drives so it works great for me.I highly recommend this adapter!Notes:iperf is a network tool which is useful to test raw network speeds while avoiding potential bottle necks such as harddrives or the protocol you are using to transfer a file. It works on all major OS's (and there is a great android version too). see [...] for more info on how it works. To take full advantage of the N wifi spec you need either a dual band router and adapter and use a chunk of that spectrum (this one is not 5Ghz capable) or set the channel width to 40 Mhz. The latter is not very nice to do if you have a lot of neighbours nearby (like in a highrise condo). I also run the router for n clients only (I have an older g router to handle those clients). More info on bands here: [...]Also remember to get N speeds you need to use wpa2 with AES or nothing at all - WPA1 or wep slow it down to g speeds.

I've only been using this thing for 2 months but it works well outside at the end of a 32' powered USB extension with an Acer running Windows 7 64-bit. The TP Link gets 150% or 200% the signal of the laptop's built-in wi-fi. I've also used the Alfa Realtek AWUS036H and it has 150%-200% reception beyond the TP Link but the RealTek usually fails to be recognized on the USB extension. The TP Link is recognized every time. The TP Link also gets N networks whereas the Realtek does not therefore when connected to the same network, the TP Link is faster than the Realtek. (There is a newer RealTek that gets N networks but many Amazon reviews say it stinks and I tried it despite those reviews and it did stink and I returned it. (Thank you Amazon for making returns easy.))I tried a 15-inch antenna on the TP Link and it did not improve reception. I tried putting the entire device on the focal point of a disused TV satellite dish and it very much improved the signal. I can get wi-fi from the university two miles away with the TP Link in the dish outdoors at the end of the long extension. The uni is far but I have good line of sight as they're on one side of a valley and I'm on the other.Three minor drawbacks. The TP Link does need to be unplugged and replugged sometimes when I wake up the computer from sleep but it takes mere seconds to handshake and get on with things. The included mini CD has a driver for Windows 7 which is all you need for functionality but if you want a utility that gives you more detailed info about networks and signal strength, you have to download it. The utility installs itself to launch every time you boot, which is unnecessary.Definitely awesome for the approx $10 I paid.

I'm always a little skeptical of claims made by inexpensive wireless devices but the TP-Link really did exceed my expectations. Here's the whole story...We recently upgraded to FiOS Quantum internet service but the wireless router supplied by Verizon didn't come close to supporting the transfer speeds the new connection was capable of. I added a TrendNet dual-N access point, TEW-637AP (highly recommended, BTW, and also purchased from Amazon TRENDnet 300 Mbps Wireless Easy-N-Upgrader (TEW-637AP)), and doubled the wireless speed. However, signal strength was so low that speed often dropped by 50% or more and the 58Mbps maximum wasn't close to the best. Now it appeared that the wireless USB adapter, a single antenna TrendNet TEW-644UB, may have been part of the problem. I was intrigued by the dual antennas on the TL-WN822N, thought it could be a better match for the dual antenna wireless access point and, given the low price, was certainly worth a try.The adapter arrived quickly and installed easily. (Be sure to follow the instructions to cancel Windows offer to search for or install the driver and run the TP-Link driver and setup utility **after** plugging in the adapter.) The adapter activated as soon as the software installation completed and opened the configuration utility. After selecting the TrendNet access point and entering the WPA security code, the TL-WN822N connected immediately. The first thing I noticed was the signal strength - Windows 7 wireless network connection status now shows signal quality of 80%. Even more impressive was the speed, now at a steady 130Mbps, a 225% increase.Don't hesitate if you're looking for higher wireless speeds but keep in mind that you will also need a dual antenna, dual-N (300Mbps) wireless access point to make the most of the TP-Link TL-WN822N. This was undoubtedly the best $20.00 I've ever spent on a computer.

I like to receive Pandora Radio music over WiFi with my Onkyo TX-NR515 AV Receiver. I deemed Onkyo's adapter to be priced outrageously high, so I was using a wireline Ethernet adapter, but with mixed success because periodically I would have to reset the sender and receiver devices--a real pain. I read a review on Amazon that the chipsets in this device and in Onkyo's proprietary adapter were identical, and that this adapter worked perfectly. I just received this adapter from an Amazon Marketplace seller in "like new" condition, unboxed it, connected it to the rear USB port of my Onkyo receiver with the supplied USB extension cable, and VOILA! without any action on my part a connection dialog appeared on the TV screen. All I had to do was supply my network's password, and I was connected without further ado. The connection quality is excellent (Onkyo reports 70-80%), and the music is playing with excellent quality. I chose to use the USB extension cable so that the adapter and its antenna would be more visible to my upstairs router than if it had been tucked behind the electronics of the receiver. I get a kick out of the blinking green light in the adapter face plate that assures me that the connection is working. Once again, huge thanks to the legion of Amazon reviewers who have guided me through so many product choices over the years.
