Cisco's documentation is misleading. The firmware support for the external hard drive support is very poor- Cisco's choice is to ignore the issue instead of addressing it. Don't buy this product if you are intending to use an external drive with it. I've been going back and forth with Cisco support- well mostly back (they don't respond other than saying that only the drives on their list are "officially supported", most of which are not in production any longer) for months and don't expect to get any resolution or firmware upgrade, this is essentially a dead product.

not really sure this is what i needed... however i decided to keep it anyway.. and now yet another misson may be in store for this item.. im not really a tech head.. so alot of this stuff i get .. then hang onto if it doesnt stisfy my original intention... theres always a use sooner or later for em in my house,,,lol

GreetingsLike everyone else, perhaps, I wanted to save drilling holes in roof and walls (no crawl space)and thought let me use the new tech solution with 5 GHz frequency with 40 Mhz bandwidth with promises from Cisco 300 Mbit. Thinking I will get at least one third of it, purchased a E4200 and WET610N.Setup:Comcast -> E4200 <=802.11N Wifi=> WET610N -> Four Port Switch -> My Media Center/Samsung/Blu Ray-> Wired<= => WirelessCisco/Linksys Customer support could not solve my problem but I did (had to spend few hours without sniffer and called Linksys to open the bug report and workaround)Problem: Your host/PC/Laptop/whatever box connected to WET601N can see the network but "CAN NOT" access Internet OR resolve hostname OR ping/see the default router. In my case above media center could not see or access beyond E4200.Solution/Workaround/BUG:1. If you are using DHCP Reservation on your router please remove the reservation for all clients behind (or connected to) the WET601N, in my example above the Media Center.Optional 2. Case you happen to call Support - please do ignore to add Mac address of all cliets to Mac Filter of your Router as "permiteed to access wifi" in touter configuration - not required. Only Mac Address filter required is that of WET601N ONLY[I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have - explain as much as possible for a right answer - free for all my Amazon Friends]Remorse: 2 hours with Linksys, Award Winning Service and nice ladies told me to RMA the boxx with no guarantees of solutionConclusion: Works but...... Little Flaky on consistency. Better than Linksys Powerline adapter. My Netflix streaming movies are getting loaded faster, almost 2x and I am yet to try streaming from my Diskstation/NAS to Media Center or DLNA to Samsung so I reserve the right to send it back :-)Final Conclusion: Depends on case to case, distance to distance, router and configuration (5 Ghz/40Mhz 802.11N compared to 2.4/802.11g and number of walls, your patience with Linksys, walls, doors etc - you know what I mean)My effort is to help someone who is stuck like me or to give you glimpse whats ahead, possibly. But it does work, just missing some charm as a starter.my humble opinion and 2c and no more with apologies for little techy reviewregardsPBG

I have had numerous routers, and this one functions admirably in all aspects except for its nasty habit of not allowing shared systems to see each other. It causes issues with:- Shared folders- Shared printers- External streaming devicesAn example of this is that we have a Lexmark network printer, which will happily hook up to our internal network. Unfortunately, nobody on the network can see it to use it. It shows in the router's IP table and we can ping it, but doesn't seem to actually exist on anybody's system as something that can be printed to.Another example is that I can't stream video to my PS3. The PS3 can't find any of my streaming servers.The problem is actually extremely well documented, and a few work-arounds have been found, but Cisco refuses to recognize the problem or provide a fix for it.I've had this router for over a year, and am now going to have to give up and purchase a different one. It's really unfortunate because, otherwise, it works well.

I liked the first one that I purchased a second to connect my PS3 and used 5Ghz signal for less interference. People need to keep in mind things like heaters, fans, microwaves, walls, anything emitting energy will slightly interfere with your wireless signal. Usually the 5Ghz will have less interference due to the frequency it uses.

I usually don't write reviews but after seeing all the less than favorable posts on this one i had to butt in. This is by far the most robust, no-frills, non-tinkered with router you can use out of the box. Pretty flawless so far. I have 3 Gigabit ports occupied along with 4 WLAN clients. Not to forget a 1 TB passport Hard-disk attached to the router that acts as a media server.I have always been a fan of DD-WRT firmware. I used the legendary Cisco-Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router with DD-WRT firmware for over 3 years before I made the upgrade to E4200V2. After using this for about 10 days, I don't even think about not being able to load custom firmware on this one. We've had seamless streaming of High-Def Video, Local File Transfer, Printer sharing between our Windows 7 machines using the HomeGroup setup. I cannot stress this fact enough. Practically zero packet dropping.Make sure to have separate SSID for the 5 GHZ and the 2.4 GHZ transmission. That way you can connect your high performance 5GHZ capable wireless clients to the correct SSID for maximum performance. You can use my setup as an example as depicted in the screenshot( [..] )I'll probably give an update after 2 months of usage. Hoping it would be a non-event.Update:Sorry I promised a quicker update but here goes. the Router is still fantastic. Never had to RESET even once. The Device count gre to 15 at my place. The new firmware update gave us the ability to disable WPS.

I set this up with an older wireless Linksys router. It would not find and connect with my wireless network when I had the SSID broadcast set on disable, even when I entered the network ID and password several times. I finally turned on the SSID and it connected. I have several other devices on my wireless network, and they never required this treatment. There was 'very good' signal strength, so signal was not the issue.

25 bucks including shipping on woot the other day 12-27-12. Have not got it yet but I think I could have just used one of my extra routers and bridged it to do the same thing unless there is something this offers that a router does not.

I had an older Linksys G bridge that wasn't very stable after I went to a newer N router. I picked this one up and it has worked fine. My only complaint is the 100 Mbps wired port, which seem silly for a bridge that should get at least a 150 Mbps wireless connection.

This router has all of the features that I was looking for. It was easy to setup, has a lot of configuration flexibility and is capable of fast connections. However, the good stops there. Now on to the bad.There are two main problems with this router that outweigh all of the good:1. It reduces connection speed for no reason constantly (within a couple of days or even hours). I have 10 Mbps internet service and this router passes this speed along fine after it first starts up. Let it run for a day or so and it won't be long until your download speads are cut down by over 90% (below 1Mbps in my case). At first I thought it was my service provider and I called them quite upset and after waiting 45 mins to talk to a tech I threatened to change providers because this kept happening. After some trouble-shooting, it became clear to me that the router was the problem. My full connection speed returned after the router was power cycled - every single time. To maintain the connection speed you're proably considering this router for, you will constantly need to power-cylce your router then also power-cycle all of the wireless devices in your home to get the new IP address.2. If number 1 doesn't bother you, this one might. It will randomly lose the configuration settings you set up after you power cycle the router just to get your speeds back. Basically it returns to factory default at random and you have to go through the whole configuration again - only to have to do it again some time in the near future.If you don't mind these two problems then this can be considered a great router. Since 1 and 2 are pretty important to me, I rate this router to be an over-priced, unreliable but good looking paper-weight. Also note that these problems seem to only manifest after a typical return policy time-frame expires so you'll be stuck with it - like me.If these issues don't bother you then this is the router for you and I have one that I'll sell you real cheap.

Its better to get a repeater or another access point that can work as a bridge that can be more useful than this product.

Went through the easy set up instructions on CD. Took it out to the living room, plugged it into to my Marantz 6007 and sha-zam I]m on line getting radio and internet stations plus SiriusXM and Pandora and other goodies.

I picked up a Linksys E3000 to upgrade my aging but very reliable Linksys WRT54GS wireless router. The old router has served me very well but the time had come to move up to the improved performance and better range of Wireless N. I've also begun watching NetFlix online lately. The new router should also mean better performance with video streaming.I have a small home network that consists of a few desktops, a web server (low traffic personal website), a network printer, a Slingbox, and a DirecTV receiver. Wireless devices include laptops (Mac and PC), my iPhone, and an XBox 360. Im also planning to buy a new TV and BluRay player in the near future. These will also probably have wireless connections.I'm a software engineer and I like tweaking settings to maximize performance. I was running 3rd party firmware, HyperWRT, on my old router to do just that.I was looking for a high performance dual band router. The E3000 addressed my needs and also includes Gigabit ethernet, a USB port for network storage, and allows for a "guest" wireless network that visitors can connect to. Nice! So given my past history and familiarity with the Linksys interface, the E3000 was a logical choice to replace my old router.I bought the E3000 online from newegg.com for $150 in May 2010. I did not install the Linksys software to setup this router. (The last thing I need is more software clogging up my system.) I prefer to connect directly and use the web interface to configure my routers. I've been using it for about 6 months now.I'm sorry to report that I have been disappointed with this router. I actually had better range AND performance with my old router!! The wireless performance was definitely worse. Videos on my laptop that used to run smoothly were now sputtered and slow.I was also surprised when I started having problems with my wired connections. Web pages and images were definitely loading up more slowly than before. At first I thought that this might be due to the internet connection at the time, but these problems have persisted thru the last several months.There have also been a few incidents where I've come home to find that the router has completely reset. I had to completely reconfigure from scratch. Very strange. There did not seem to be a power problem.Finally, the guest network is NOT configurable from the web interface. You must use the Linksys software to accomplish this.Bottom Line: Save yourself some time and money and don't buy the E3000. I gave up on this router. Not only did it not perform up to expectations -- I performed worse than my old router! Two weeks ago, based on the MaximumPC magazine tests, I went out and bought a brand new N600 NetGear WNDR3700 wireless router. The NetGear is the router I should have bought six months ago!

I already have an E3000 router so the setup was really easy and it's been working great every since. It's on 24/7 and used to bridge my network to my printer.
