I had an older Linksys G bridge that wasn't very stable after I went to a newer N router. I picked this one up and it has worked fine. My only complaint is the 100 Mbps wired port, which seem silly for a bridge that should get at least a 150 Mbps wireless connection.

This router has all of the features that I was looking for. It was easy to setup, has a lot of configuration flexibility and is capable of fast connections. However, the good stops there. Now on to the bad. There are two main problems with this router that outweigh all of the good:1. It reduces connection speed for no reason constantly (within a couple of days or even hours). I have 10 Mbps internet service and this router passes this speed along fine after it first starts up. Let it run for a day or so and it won't be long until your download speads are cut down by over 90% (below 1Mbps in my case). At first I thought it was my service provider and I called them quite upset and after waiting 45 mins to talk to a tech I threatened to change providers because this kept happening. After some trouble-shooting, it became clear to me that the router was the problem. My full connection speed returned after the router was power cycled - every single time. To maintain the connection speed you're proably considering this router for, you will constantly need to power-cylce your router then also power-cycle all of the wireless devices in your home to get the new IP address.2. If number 1 doesn't bother you, this one might. It will randomly lose the configuration settings you set up after you power cycle the router just to get your speeds back. Basically it returns to factory default at random and you have to go through the whole configuration again - only to have to do it again some time in the near future. If you don't mind these two problems then this can be considered a great router. Since 1 and 2 are pretty important to me, I rate this router to be an over-priced, unreliable but good looking paper-weight. Also note that these problems seem to only manifest after a typical return policy time-frame expires so you'll be stuck with it - like me.If these issues don't bother you then this is the router for you and I have one that I'll sell you real cheap.

I picked up a Linksys E3000 to upgrade my aging but very reliable Linksys WRT54GS wireless router. The old router has served me very well but the time had come to move up to the improved performance and better range of Wireless N. I've also begun watching NetFlix online lately. The new router should also mean better performance with video streaming.I have a small home network that consists of a few desktops, a web server (low traffic personal website), a network printer, a Slingbox, and a DirecTV receiver. Wireless devices include laptops (Mac and PC), my iPhone, and an XBox 360. Im also planning to buy a new TV and BluRay player in the near future. These will also probably have wireless connections.I'm a software engineer and I like tweaking settings to maximize performance. I was running 3rd party firmware, HyperWRT, on my old router to do just that.I was looking for a high performance dual band router. The E3000 addressed my needs and also includes Gigabit ethernet, a USB port for network storage, and allows for a "guest" wireless network that visitors can connect to. Nice! So given my past history and familiarity with the Linksys interface, the E3000 was a logical choice to replace my old router.I bought the E3000 online from newegg.com for $150 in May 2010. I did not install the Linksys software to setup this router. (The last thing I need is more software clogging up my system.) I prefer to connect directly and use the web interface to configure my routers. I've been using it for about 6 months now.I'm sorry to report that I have been disappointed with this router. I actually had better range AND performance with my old router!! The wireless performance was definitely worse. Videos on my laptop that used to run smoothly were now sputtered and slow.I was also surprised when I started having problems with my wired connections. Web pages and images were definitely loading up more slowly than before. At first I thought that this might be due to the internet connection at the time, but these problems have persisted thru the last several months. There have also been a few incidents where I've come home to find that the router has completely reset. I had to completely reconfigure from scratch. Very strange. There did not seem to be a power problem. Finally, the guest network is NOT configurable from the web interface. You must use the Linksys software to accomplish this.Bottom Line: Save yourself some time and money and don't buy the E3000. I gave up on this router. Not only did it not perform up to expectations -- I performed worse than my old router! Two weeks ago, based on the MaximumPC magazine tests, I went out and bought a brand new N600 NetGear WNDR3700 wireless router. The NetGear is the router I should have bought six months ago!

I bought this Wireless Bridge to connect my DirecTV HD-DVR to the internet so I could use the On Demand DirecTV offers (and other features). The On Demand allows you to search and then download to your DVR specific movies or programs that you want to watch now or save for later. I had an ethernet cable running from my wireless router to the DVR but I thought that was a waste to have everything wireless and have ugly cable running all over just for my DVR. I decided on the WET610N because I believe it is exactly like the unit DirecTV sells for $99. So since this is the one they recommend, and I didn't want any issues connecting or it being compatible, I went with this one.Yesterday I installed a new wireless router to my network. I bought the D-Link DIR-855 Wireless Router D-Link DIR-855 Xtreme N Duo Dual Band Draft 802.11n Media Router (also purchased from Amazon) to replace my old D-link router. I say this because I believe having the newer router made the installation for the Wireless Bridge MUCH smoother than what others have experienced.I opened the box and took everything out. Quickly read through the instructions so I knew what to expect. Then I moved my laptop to the room in my house where the D-Link Wireless Router lives. I put the CD in my laptop and followed step by step what it asked me to do. EVERY step was spelled out - probably a little too much, i.e. "plug the blue ethernet cable in to the back of the wireless router" with animated picture, click NEXT, "plug the other end of the blue ethernet cable into the back of the Ciso/Linksys Wireless Bridge" with animated picture, click NEXT, etc.Basically my steps were: I entered a password to protect my new Wireless Bridge. It searched my system for my components. Then started connecting them. My new router has the "connect" button (looks like to arrows forming a circle) to speak to anything you would want to connect to the router. The CD told me to hit that button then hit connect. Once I held that button, then clicked connect on my laptop it was connected with no problem. So easy it was like connecting a wireless mouse to it's transmitter. I picked my network from the list of available networks that came up and I was wireless. I unplugged it from my router and connected it to my DVR and plugged the AC adapter into the wall. Once the lights stopped flashing it was booted up. I looked at the channels for the On Demand on my DVR and I was already connected. Didn't have to configure the DVR to see the Wireless Bridge at all. It just thought the old ethernet wire was plugged back in.I never opened the web address page or homepage for the Wireless Bridge or for my router. Never entered my password for my network. Didn't even see anything asking for anything complex like if my network was PPPOE, if it was static or dynamic, if I was using DSL or cable, or if it was 2.4 Mhz or 5 Mhz. Nothing. It was so very easy. So much so I almost felt guilty after reading some of the horror stories in some of the reviews. It literally took minutes. Maybe 10 minutes including walking from room to room.

I worked with 'expert' technicians for a couple days, when I finally got a knowledgeable person to tell me there is a known bug with external drives on this router. Some drives are not recognized, while others, Seagate included, are recognized, but you can not map the drive from your PCs.Although this is one of the most powerful wireless routers I have ever used, the buggy firmware and unusable external drive made me return my unit...FYI there is a newer unit coming very soon, the AE4500. You can see it in the Linksys support page on the Linksys.com site. Same functionality as E4200 v.2.Linksys/Cisco appear to be dropping the price of the E4200v.2 unit on their Cisco shopping site, below Amazon's price, obviously in preparation for the new 'AE' series. Firmware updates are supposed to happen in a couple weeks for AE4500 to fix external drive issues. (a friend of mine found on in a retail outlet and is using it now without the external drive)Don't buy this one. Wait for new model/fixes.

UPDATEUpdate: 12/24/2009: Received and installed LinkSys Powerline AV Network Kit (PLK300) which carries information on a carrier frequency riding on the 120VAC house wiring within the home (home side of circuitry after main breaker to electric company supply). Setup was straightforward and took less than an hour. Kit has two units: #1 is connected by Ethernet cable to router (WRT610N) and to a 120VAC outlet; #2 is connected to the HDTV and BluRay player via two Ethernet cables as well as a nearby 120VAC outlet. The second unit has slots for four (total) separate Ethernet connections of which we only used two.Result: 100% SUCCESS! Can stream BluRay movies, music, NetFlix, net news, gadgets, etc.Notes on further discussions with technical support: The `distance" figures quoted for the router and bridge are "open air" distances and will be degraded by passage through walls (interior or exterior). Further degradation may result if the signal must pass through "metal" window screens and/or through stucco walls (stucco is normally applied over a metal grid). Since our home is laid out where the signal will pass through two stucco walls in going from the "den" wing to the LR entertainment center, this may have been the cause of the very poor reception reported earlier. As a result, I am raising the rating to four stars (would rate higher if the above information had been available on the LinkSys web site). -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------LinkSys WRT610N Router and WET610N Bridge: We recently purchased a Sony Bravia HDTV and BluRay Player (52Z5100 and N460) each of which has the ability to accept video streaming and "gadgets". After reading various wireless reviews AND the Sony recommendation for the WET610 Bridge, we purchased these two units. They were to be used to connect between the cable modem (den) and LR entertainment center, a distance of ~60' through several interior sheetrock walls in a single story residence (with construction which does not practically allow Ethernet cable connection). The end result is disappointing! 5GHz transmissions from the router to the bridge are registered at a 97% signal level at ~ 3 ft. from the router; ~50% at ~25' from the router and not measurable at the TV location. At 2.4GHZ the signal level at the TV registered ~ 10-18% and gave a satisfactory path to set up "gadgets" and to upgrade both the HDTV and BluRay firmware. However, streaming of videos, music, etc. failed due to insufficient bandwidth.I tried several different software setups on the router and bridge to no avail (and even tried different locations of the bridge on a 25' Ethernet cable). I then contacted LinkSys support and paid for their diagnosis and support (which involved resetting both router and bridge). There was no significant improvement.Current status: I am awaiting delivery of newly-ordered LinkSys PLK300 PowerLine AV Ethernet Adapter Kit (uses internal home 120VAC wiring for "carrier transmission" of the signal; hardwire connection to router). Hope this works.Pros: For someone relatively familiar with computers, the LinkSys CD's provided a quick and easy setup and connection using Windows 7 (Home Premium - 32 bit). Although "Advanced Settings" for both the router and bridge are available, there is no instruction as to their probable effect and I did not use them (but LinkSys support did). Also, the router and bridge are relatively attractive / not geeky.Cons: At this point, the intended use of these two devices over this distance and in this environment is a failure. Although the failure could be due to either the router (transmitter) or the bridge (receiver) - or both, as a user I have no practical way of measuring.I will try to update this after receiving and installing the PowerLine Adapter See above.

Sometimes it works, and when it does, it works well, but this product has been a near constant source of grief since the day I purchased it. At some point the bridge will simply lose the connection, never to re-establish it again, unplugging it doesn't work, restarting it doesn't work, every time I have to re install the unit just like the first day I bought it. The worst part about this is that when the connection failure occurs I can NEVER regain my 5GHz connection(using the initial setup procedure) again without completely resetting my wireless router, and starting from scratch. Every other piece of hardware in the house can still connect to the 5GHz band with the exception of this awful piece of equipment. I have had problems with the bridge with two different routers now. I would stay away.

Setting up the router is about as easy as it gets. I could explain it here, but it's really not much more than plugging it in and running the setup program on the included CD. You get a random network name, and have both secured and unsecured wireless capabilities that it separates out into different VLANs. One note about the random network name, if you reset the router, you will get a new network name. I found that out the hard way, when I had to reset it when troubleshooting a wireless network issue (which may not have had anything to do with the router, itself).I gave it a 5 star rating for range, but in truth, I'm not sure what the total range is. I do know that I lose a bar (in my Dell laptop, using the built-in wireless... as well as my wife's iTouch) when I go upstairs (router is set up in the basement). I get a good signal throughout the house, and on the back patio. For me, the range is plenty good, and the speed is plenty fast for browsing the Internet and sending e-mail. I haven't tried networking games via the wireless yet, nor have I tried streaming high-def content to my blu-ray player or Xbox 360. Still need adapters to get those up and running on the network. The gigabit backplane is nice, as well, since I plan on purchasing a NAS for my home office that I'll be backing up to. 100mb speed is just too slow for backups of large amounts of data.Advanced settings are easy to get to and set. To play with these, you'll want to at least have a clue about basic networking before diving in. I've looked at it, but haven't yet had a need to customize any settings. I'm sure that will change, but the basic installation through the gui will do the trick for most users. All in all, I'm pleased with the router. I really like the dual band capability and what that brings to the table. I love having a guest network. Note that this network is password protected, and you need to select it then open a browser on your laptop which redirects to a page that allows you to put in the password to your guest network... only then are you able to use this network. This was a gotcha for me early on, probably because I didn't read the manual. ;) The guest network is separated from your secured network. The wireless seems pretty dependable, overall. I have experienced few drop-outs, though some drop-outs seem to be the rule, rather than the exception when it comes to wireless connectivity, and to be honest, I'm not certain that the drop-out is on the router side, either. This will become more obvious one way or the other as I "plug in" more wireless devices into the network. You can get a less expensive router, but most don't have dual bands that run concurrently. Many don't have a guest network built into it. And many aren't nearly as easy to set up. While more and more newer models include a gigabit backplane, if you go for a cheaper model, you're not likely going to get this, either. I guess it all depends on your budget and needs. For my future wireless plans, this was a good purchase, and worth the extra money.

I would say the E4200 router provides a solid connection, roughly the same throughput performance as the NETGEAR N750 450 Mbps Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router WNDR4000 (another 450 Mbps router), easy setup with `Cisco Connect', and the lack of LED lights in the front of the router really helps with the light pollution on the office desk.Pros:* Supports 3 data stream (450 Mbps) on the 5 GHz band. The tested throughput on the 5 GHz band was 129 Mbps up and 148 Mbps down (laptop with Intel 6300 wifi card to a server with a wired connection). About 15% faster then my old WNDR3700 router, but I was hoping for a 50% increase (300 Mbps -> 450 Mbps).* Easy to setup with the `Cisco Connect' application. The application guides you in setting up the wireless security, parental control, and guest network.* No issues connecting to the router with my PS3, Windows Home Server, Vulkano, and iPadCon:* Only 2 data stream (300 Mbps) on the 2.4 GHz band. The tested throughput on the 2.4 GHz band was 60 Mbps up and 70 Mbps down* No extra features like WDS repeating/bridge* WNDR4000 has better parental control featuresSummary:Having the E4200 and WNDR4000, the E4200 has roughly the same throughput performance as the WNDR4000 (134 Mbps up and 140 Mbps down on the 5 GHz band). The difference between the two comes down to features. The E4200 has a great setup utility that will allow any newbie to configure the router with ease. The WNDR4000 provides more useful features such as WDS repeating and traffic meter. As for the range of the router, I really can't comment on it due to living in a small apartment. Some extra background info:One thing that I feel is missing in the `router comparison table' is the processor speed. The CPU speed gives you an idea about the performance of the router. So here is what I found on the internet.E1200 - 300 MHz CPU with 32MB RAM and 4MB FlashE1500 - 300 MHz CPU with 32MB RAM and 8MB FlashE2500 - 300 MHz CPU with 64MB RAM and 8MB FlashE3000 - 480 MHz CPU with 64MB RAM and 8MB FlashE4200 - 480 MHz CPU with 64MB RAM and 16MB Flash

Equipment: DirecTV Plus HD DVR, Linksys E4200 router, WET610N adapterInstructions for setting up the adpater from users, DirecTV, and Linksys are varied. DirecTV instructions say not to use the setup CD. I followed that course of action and made the connection rather quickly by using the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (where you push the icons on router and adapter with the two arrows). But I had already setup my Linksys E4200 router with a new name and SSID security code. Well, the setup worked and was very quick to do. I had made an Internet connection with DirecTV! But when I went back to use my other wireless devices, this method changed my wireless router name and these devices didn't connect anymore. I had to go back and set up my router again to my previous configuration (find the new router name by identifying the new router name on my PC's "Connect to a Network", go to 192.168.1.1 and get the new password, run the router setup disk again, and rename the router and password). So starting over as though I just opened the adapter box, I used the Linksys setup disk and followed the instructions, but DID NOT push the icon buttons this time. I entered the router name and password and that was easy. You program the adapter to talk to your router and then move it to your DVR (usually in a different room than your router) and plug it into your DVR (top Ethernet port, which is 1. The bottom Ethernet port (2) lets you connect the DVR to another device like a Blu-Ray player and connect it to the Internet). Wait a couple of minutes until all the lights on your adapter light up. The Wi-fi light might continue to blink - mine does. Then use your DirecTV DVR remote and press: Menu . . . Parental, Favs & Setup . . . System Setup . . . Network Setup . . . Repeat Network Setup . . . and Connect. Wait a half minute or so and it should say it has connected. If I had these instructions I would have been in business in about 15 minutes start to finish.

I have an existing G Linksys Router that has worked well for years, but with all the gaming my boys do online with xbox and PS3, I felt like the N router would be a better choice. The new router came with easy install software and if you are a first time user it is very streamlined, but I was updating an existing wirless network and I didn't want to use the manufactured Linksys router name and WEP Password. Linksys really should have made upgrading more user friendly, like allowing you to make up your own WEP key code during set up. We have six computers accessing this router, so I didn't want to go to each computer and update the router name and WEP key code. Simple I thought, I will just access the router and update the router name and WEP key code. Wrong, once you do that, it stops letting you use the handy dandy easy software and then wouldn't allow the other computers access even with the right router name and WEP key code. So I called Linksys and their support folks took control of one of our computers and made some adjustments to get our computers to have wireless access. They also helped us get the xbox working, but their are some sessions these games cannot access online through the router I guess because of the enhanced firewall on the router and the only way we can get them to work is to hire a networking group to configure the router to function. Linksys graciously turned our call over to this paid service company. Over all the router works great, I believe better than the old one, but the new security has made it more challenging to add other wireless platforms like our Samsumg Blu Ray Home theater system that I am still unable to connect wirelessly because according to Samsung, the router firewall is preventing it. Back to the xbox, I feel Linksys should have more ownership of the gaming issue though because when we connected the xbox directly to the modem, joining other forums for gaming was not an issue and even with a ethernet cable connected directly to the Linksys it still denied access. This is a router issue in my eye's and I feel Linksys should have trained people on staff to handle this kind of thing. I would recommend this router to those that are first time users and who don't use multiple platforms like an xbox or home theater system with wifi or Kindle. itouch had no issue ironically.

I bought this product with great trepidation because I saw wildly varying reviews. Being averse to dealing with tech support I had armed myself with a document I had created listing all the issues and the possible solutions to them.Ultimately I needed NONE of them. The install was flawless and the performance outstanding so far.Things I discovered: I had to update my XP pro machine to SP3 before I could start the install. Not a biggieThe install itself went entirely without a hitch. I have Comcast Xfinity connection. Had to power off and restart the cable modem after the install was completed (I was aware of this because I had recently replaced the cable modem)Major issues I was expecting that DIDN'T happen:Freezing of the software during install never happenedThe name of the network (SSID) can be changed under router settings I opted not to for reasons below (my desire to use use my old router as a switch and access point)Biggest plus: I was able to use my existing router that had Wireless G simply by changing the router to behave like a switch. In order to do that you have to access the router's admin page (1) turn off the DHCP server (2) change the router's IP address to something other than 192.168.1.1 (which is the default primary router IP address) (3) turn off any port forwarding that you might be using for game boxes. (5) the ethernet from the primary router needs to be plugged into one of the "switch ports" NOT what would normally be the input from the cable modem. So you effectively lose one port but you have a 3 port switch with a wireless access point that operates in G mode. This was the reason I did not change the SSID on the primary router because I was able to distinguish between the N router's wireless signal and the G router's wirelss signal. This was a big deal to me since he old router was moved into the basement where typically I had NO wireless signal, AND I had been led to believe by Cisco Tech support that a standard G access point would NOT work with the E3000.My download speeds tested using speedtest.net went up from 13Mbps to 21Mbps over the wireless connection ! the upload speeds went from 2Mbps to 3Mbps.Couldn't be more pleased with the performance so far. Very happy with this product.

I bought this to use as a bridge when I lived in Texas. It could not be set up there and the technicians told me it was my router. I tried it on four different routers (three brands) and couldn't get it to work, nor could the techs. I got frustrated with it, and as I could not return the product, I just ended up running a 100 ft long ethernet cable through my house.I moved to Indiana and have a different router (yet ANOTHER different brand) and could not get the product to work. I called tech support, they guarenteed me they could get it to work if I paid 29.99 since it had been more than a year since I purchased the product, despite never being able to fix the issue the first time and it being the same issue. They also said I purchased the bridge in 2007, which was wrong. They also had my email incorrect. Great record keeping, guys.Running around on forums led me to the conclusion that it would not work with my router regardless of their support (many people could not fix this issue, particularly in the case of the router I have, a 2wire). I'm glad I didn't waste more money trying to fix this thing. I will never purchase another Linksys. The router I had from them was a waste of money that didn't work either. I would sell it but I don't want to put others through the pain and disappointment.

Router arrived a day earlier than expected. Comes with an install CD, no printed manual. The CD is needed to get the router working. Have every device connected to the router, insert CD, hide and watch....it goes out and determines the setup, easy walk thru, gives you option to change the name of your network, and prints out the password. It like, takes over.I have to have a different setup due my VPN and work requirements, and sharing my personal PCs on the same network at the same time. The no brainer install wasn't exactly foolproof in my case. Undoing, then customizing, what the router software did (including giving the router itself its own set 'of brains'), was time consuming and shouldn't have been so difficult. The worst part of it all, make a change as the admin, says ok now continue....more often than not, a reboot of the router was needed for the changes to apply. They saved just fine, didn't apply most times without a reboot. There were a couple of times I had to power off the router and cable modem, then repower them back on in sequence, to get things available. At certain times, the entire network dies. I have not determined why this happens. Probably due to my customizations; however, I feel, if the manufacturer made such options available, then they should work. This morning was really weird. I'd booted up my work PC around 430am. I didn't get logged on the PC until 645am. I power up my personal PC to get magicjack going. I make the call, get into conference, talking with bosses, then for no reason, around 715am, both PCs lost connectivity with the router and I ended up powering down everything (PCs, router, cable modem) to get everything back. I just thank goodness I have the foresight to have backup communications (ie, my cell phone).I got the router a month ago. This 'outage' has occured 5 times since. The firmware is up to date. I am not using any wireless devices with this router. I don't get it (but I will).

I use this with some of my Internet enabled devices that do not have wireless capabilities. Currently it is being used with a Sony Bluray player. The setup is pretty easy. I've used both the WPS function and a manual setup. I've had no issues with the device. Though if you do have to manually set it up you'll need a computer to do so. If you run different wireless networks such as a different SSID for different bands (2Ghz vs 5Ghz for example) then the manual setup makes it easier. One other hint is to make sure you power up the adapter first and then your device after you see the wireless activity light come on. Some devices are funny about the timing.

I could not get the Linksys AE1200 N Adapter to work with a Linksys Wireless N Broadband Router. Tried installing several times. The computer sees the Broadband Router as a wireless device, but will not connect. The light on the adapter also does not come on. Very disappointing.

After a few months, this wireless card works well, especially compared to other compatible priced cards. The range is decent, and does not disconnect like other cards.

At first I was pleased with this product. The Connections software was simple to use, but in the end I went straight to the device's advanced setup webpages and configured everything there. Admittedly I have advanced IT skills, but I found it straight-forward to configure and I enjoyed the wide range of configuration options: Separate passwords and configuration for each band, and all the port forwarding options seem to be there.I was also impressed that Tom's Hardware just recently reviewed the latest Wireless N routers and this router won. (In the article's conclusion it's assumed that the E3000 is a carbon copy of the Linksys WRT610N.)[...]Then its bad side showed up. I was so focused on the rock-steady wireless connection it took me awhile to notice I couldn't see any of my network shares. File sharing wasn't working. In fact, even trying to enter my workgroup was locked up until I went into the E3000's storage settings (I don't even have a HDD connected to it yet) and changed its workgroup to a different name. Even now on most computers on the LAN the default Workgroup shows as empty. Since only a few others on Cisco's help forums have complained of this, I will first try a hard reset, then reconfigure it and see if that clears the problem. Or try to attach and configure an ext. HDD to see if that helps. But until I can find a solution to this I've reduced my review to 2 stars. There's already a firmware update out with minor bug fixes and I was able to flash it easily.I liked the option to save a backup file of all my configuration settings onto my HDD.The E3000 seems flawless so far for connection with WPA/WPA2. Before I only had WEP so this is a nice improvement in security. At the back of the house I was getting 54 Mb/s on my old laptop's G modem. Now using a Cisco AE1000 USB dual band wireless-N connected to my laptop via its dock, I get 48 to 216 Mbs with an average of 81 Mbps on the 5 Ghz band when connecting to the E3000 router -and not a single disconnect so far (I used to get 3 or 4 per day). For the 2.4 Ghz band I do even better at 107 to 144 Mbps and lately it's locking in at 144 and staying there. Now my original home gateway was a 2Wire 1701HG and I installed the E3000 as a second router. If you'd like to know how I did that then read the info here: [...]I've not used the USB Storage option yet so I can't comment on that yet, but all the options to configure and secure it seem to be in the settings.I'm not sure what the Connections software was trying to achieve with the Guest User option. The idea was to allow guests to use a separate password to access the internet, while still keeping the rest of your network secure. I was horrified to find though that it instead had opened up an unsecured wireless connection with full access to my home network -so I immediately shut it off. I didn't really need it anyway, but it bothers me that less technically proficient users might inadvertently leave their home network wide open with this option. So I deducted 1 star for this.

After moving from a one story to a two story apartment, I had an issue with hooking up my xbox 360 to the network. I did not want to have to run a cable from upstairs to downstairs for my xbox. I also did not want to buy either of the xbox adapters as they are so specific I could not use them for anything else. Also the prices are kind of steep and the quality is just ok from what I have read. So, I found this on sale, and even received an additional discount because I bought this at the same time as the E3000 router, so this was the best choice and very cheap, actually.Setup was not bad. I opened the box, pulled the stuff out, plugged it in to my router and went through the web based interface. I did not touch the install disk. I would rather set things up manually because I have better control over the settings. Once I set it up, I moved downstairs, plugged it in, and bam, fast internet on my xbox. The signal quality is fantastic. The combo of this and the E3000 is wonderful. I never lag in online gaming, and always have full connection to the servers. I have hooked up my laptop to it and ran online speedtests and am getting speeds just as fast as my desktop does, wired straight in to the router. I have Comcast and get roughly 30 mbps/sec down on my desktop and through this. I run the latest firmware without issue.I sometimes travel with my xbox to friends homes and need wifi connectivity, so I bring my xbox, the adapter, and a flash drive. The first time over I configure the device (which isn't really that hard, especially once you have done it before), backup the new configuration, and then just reload the configuration either before going or once I get to my friends homes. So on my flash drive, I have separate configuration files for each of their houses. Easy. The only downside I have found is that it runs pretty warm. Not hot to the touch, but warm. Considering it is on 24/7, it is no warmer than my modem or router, so I am not concerned. I have had it now for about 8 months without issue. I was skeptical at first, using a wifi bridge for online gaming, but couldn't be happier. Setup was easy, maintenance is non existent, and reliability is exceptional. I would buy this again, especially for the price I found it for.
