Every time I would turn the router on it would shut down my desktop computer. It did not have a problem with the other 2 laptops, so, after 2 days of trying different procedures in addition to talking with live support, I conclude that it was not compatible with my desktop wireless card. With the desktop off and then being able to run the "connect" software, I found the installation to be woefully inadequate. I have been repairing and upgrading computers for over 20 years and this installation procedure is not for any "level one" user.

There is a known issue where the AP will not hand off a requesting devices DHCP request to a DHCP server. Cisco home community forums speaks of the issue. I found out after installing the device and running into the problem when my WII would not get an IP address, nor will my HTC Droid incredible. Cisco has not released an update for the issue.

First off, I consider myself to be a hardcore gamer. You'll usually find me playing Call of Duty for 5 hours a night after work. I've been looking checking out router reviews for months now and I normally get a Belkin but this one ended up changing all that. My old router was a Belkin N1 Vision with lcd display and it was great and all but it would need to be restarted every so often. The E3000 not only has a setup program for beginners, but it also has a super fast connection. My old Belkin used to pull 16MB download and 4MB upload and I thought that was great. Once I installed this router though, those numbers jumped up to 24MB download and 4MB upload. I'm not saying that it'll do the same for you considering the fact that everyone has a different connection, modem, and location but it will certainly help it. I'm currently running on a cable connection through Comcast and a Motorola Surfboard Xtreme Modem. Trust me when I say this, as someone who knows a fair deal of knowledge with electronics and someone that does months worth of homework, this modem is worth the price. The only con that I have is the heat that it generates but that's something that can be addressed with corks. I purchased four corks from Lowe's Home Improvement that are an inch thick and I super glued them to the corners underneath and that has solved the heat build-up.

I have to say, it was hard for me to write this review because just to relive the experience of trying to get this thing to work causes me agita. I have to say this is the worst customer service, bar none, that I have ever received. I have a Mac and my installation disk (which is needed to connect the equipment to the wireless) needed replacing. I spent 2 hours online, another hour with tech support, went through endless cycles of "press 1" options, and was promised a new disk. After 4 weeks got a blank CD-R disc with the model number written on the sleeve. No data. Called again, went through another round of phone maze, was promised another disk. I received the same blank disk. Happened AGAIN, and this time I'm calling it quits. Not worth it, trying to break through the "Brazil"-like bureaucracy. I'm on the search for ANY product other than a Cisco-Linksys one.

I generally like Linksys wireless products and their reliability and ease of use, but this one was WAY more difficult than it should have been to set-up and install; too many steps required. You would think it would basically be plug and play, like many other networking products now days -- but not the case. I consider myself fairly adept at home networking and yet I even still had issues. Had to contact Linksys to get further support. Was trying to connect this adapter to my HD DirectTV box. Haven't had any problems since I got it up and running, but beware -- with limited or even broad home networking experience, it may cause you a challenge to get going.

Desiring to try WiFi with a growing assortment of devices in the family and a three node network of old Mac desktops on a hard wired Ethernet, based on the reviews here on Amazon, I purchased the E3000/WET610N discount special. Opened the E3000 box, switched the jacks from my Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL router to the E3000, ran the enclosed CD on my G5 PowerPC Mac running OSX 10.5.8, followed the directions and in about six minutes, our new WiFi system was up and running, connected hard wired to the existing three nodes, and talking WiFi to two iPOD Touches, and my grandson's school furnished Apple laptop. Tomorrow I'll add the WET610N and have my LG550BluRay player on line downstairs on our living room 46" Samsung for streaming videos.Don't understand the problems expressed in some of the earlier reviews.Installation couldn't have been simpler and the software on the CD did all the work.I don't know squat about all the technical alphabet stuff discussed in some of the earlier reviews and didn't need to.The thing works great right out of the box. The array of indicator lights to show what the system is doing is great fun and handy to see everything come on line when you first hook it up.Taking the hint about adding feet to raise the thing higher, I found four half inch corks in our kitchen drawer and stuck them on the bottom with some Ambroid model airplane cement. Seems like a great idea as the rubber feet that come stock are only about a sixteenth inch. My old router got pretty hot and the E3000 runs a lot cooler. Wouldn't hurt Cisco to spend a few more pennies on some higher feet. You can get a copy of the user guide at www.cisco.com via the support option on the Cisco home page. I've been using the old hard wire Ethernet router for four years without a hickup. Cisco makes good gear and smart software.

I've purchased this router from Amazon, used it for 3 weeks, and had to return it. Here's my story.I purchased this router because I like my old Linksys routers (BEFSR41, WRT54G) very much, and I like its simultaneous dual-band spec. I also purchased two Linksys AE1000 802.11n adapters. I setup my network through web interface and everything works in 10 minutes. After a week's use (I'm a heavy user -- my family watch Internet TVs), the router suddenly reset itself automatically with no warning. All my settings were gone and I had to re-configure it again. I thought maybe it was because of overheating, but it did not become very hot. I'd decided to give it another shot. After another week, the router reset itself AGAIN. This time I decided this is not an accident. So I restored the settings and directly went to Cisco support via Live Chat. The representative in Pune was very responsive, and he suggested me to update my firmware. Although I wondered how could that make a difference since the firmware is already same version, I followed his instructions. This time the router worked a bit longer.10 days later, the router reset itself AGAIN. I restored the settings, went to Live Chat again. They put me on wait for like 10 minutes, and offered me an RMA exchange. Well, since I was still barely in Amazon's 30-day return period, I simply got an Amazon RMA instead. I ordered D-Link 655 instead, and it works perfectly so far.Interestingly, my AE1000 never reached speed over 240Mbps with Linksys E3000, but the first day I hooked my D-Link 655 the speed is solid 300Mbps. Same positions, same computers. That really makes me wonder why should I pay much more for weaker signal and the auto-resetting bug. I'd suggest against this router unless Cisco is able to fix the auto-reset bug. It's really annoying for people doing manual setups.

I had been contemplating getting a new router for a few months now. Reading reviews, you always read something bad about any product. My current (now old) router was a WRT54GS, which was just about 5 years old and still going strong. Decided to purchase the E3000, and I have been happy with everything so far except the Cisco disk setup. I quickly abandoned the CD setup and went straight to the web-based utility. Took me about 15-20 minutes to complete the setup. Have 2 old "G" computers, 2 "N" computers, a Wii and a wireless Blu-Ray all running great since the install. Signal strength is definitely better with this router, and I haven't been dropping any connections since I got it running. Able to watch HD movies over NetFlix with no problems at all.As far as heat goes it seems to run a little warmer that my old router, but I will be using some cork or 1" scraps to raise it up. Will see how that works, but I don't foresee any issues

This will be the last linksys product I will ever own.The product works sometimes...every few weeks it goes brain dead and will not connect to my wireless network.Hard reboots do not work. To restore its functionality, I have to go through the initial setup all over again. It is at the latest firmware level. When I contact Linksys, they tell me it is out of warranty and will not help me in any way unless I buy a service contract at 50% of what I paid for the device. To make it worse, they tell me they have to check the firmware level even though I tell them I have already done that.Buy something else from a company who offers better support.

I just purchased this item. I discovered there are two interfaces to the router:1. Cisco Connect (CC) that runs via CD-ROM disc2. Browser interface using [...], user=admin, password=******The browser interface does not give you access to two options:1. Wireless Guest account access2. Parental controlsTo configure these, you need the CC. If you change certain configurations onn the browser interface, you can lock out CC! The only way to recover is to reset the router, and lose all your configuration settings from the browser interface.Linux users cannot use the CC software, since it only runs under Windows.Suggestion: the browser interface should include all the configuration features allowed by CC.See link: [...]Kevin Rosteing

Update 8/17/2010: Returning this router, doesnot work with Cisco VPN. What a wast of time. Downgrading to 0 star. Thinking of buying "WNDR3700".Update 8/13/2010: Downgrading to 3 stars, since it did not work with VPN. After a couple of hrs of debugging, tech support asked to return this unit. I will update once I have the replacement.Range is Good, Size is Bad, Desktop client is UglyGood: - Wireless range is awesome. Even range of "G" is atleast two times better then my old "G" router. - There are two ways you can set it up o Via desktop client that you need to install on your windows / Mac system. o Via browser. - The desktop client is very easy to use and in few clicks it will configure itself with you DSL or Cable model. The easiest setup I every used. But see the ugly section for gotchas.Bad: - The size is significantly large and shape is irregular. - It cannot be placed as vertically stand up. Can only be installed as flat on the desk or mounted on the wall.Ugly: - Option to setup, enable and disable guest SSID for wireless is only available through desktop client . Browser based interface does not provide you this option. - If you have changed some of the router features like password and router name etc. then desktop client will not work anymore. You have to reset router to factory defaults and have to reinstall desktop utility to make it work. - There is no user name / password security to access the desktop client. - Advance setting password and SSID password required to be same otherwise desktop client will not work.

This was a little more straghtforward to install from the instructions on the CD than was the router. I bought this bridge to be able to stream movies from the web through my Sony BluRay player. It took a few tries and some hand-holding from my IP's tech support, but we got it up and running and "talking" to my computer through the router in about 20 minutes.Surprisingly, the Netflix directions were very clear and I soon had movies on my BluRay menu.

Up until now I have been a Netgear user, but decided to give this Cisco Linksys product a try based on generally favorable trade reviews. Setup was easy for one desktop connected by ethernet cable and three laptops on wireless. That worked until my laptops went into sleep mode. My laptops have Windows XP, Vista and 7 and they all dropped the wireless connectivity when in sleep mode. I tried reconnecting both with the Cisco installed easy connect program and manually using the password - both failed. The only way I could reconnect was to wipe out the original Cisco download and reload from start. I checked the blogs, Cisco FAQ site, turned off the sleep mode - left hard drives always on, nothing worked. So I pulled the Cisco and put it back into its orginal box and will sell it on Craigslist. Back to Netgear for me.So bottom line is the router looks nice, has easy setup, no problem with ethernet cable connection, good range and data rate when working, but constantly drops wirless connections. Cisco has some work to do on reliability - buy something else instead.

.I bought this product lately as a "refurbished unit" (thanks to the wonderful state of economy + a few discount coupons) from Cisco's official website. So far the performance has been exceptional. No more disconnects, and no more annoying intermittent internet "hiccups". This router can easily be setup using Windows/OSX platform via enclosed CD (Cisco Connect) or http: 192.168.0.1.* Important * The laptop (used for configuring the router) should be 4-5 ft away from the router if you are configuring it w/o attaching the ethernet cable.* Important * If you install it via the traditional method of ethernet + http 192.168 ... , and if you modify any passwords, than the CD won't run unless you change the passwords back to original.Pros using the CD (Cisco Connect):a) It's a true "One-Step" setup. All you need to do is to insert the CD in the drive and sit back (remember, its 4ft to 5 ft) and relax and the router will get setup all by itself.b) Using the CD (Cisco Connect) allow you to turn on/off the guest account (by default it's "on") , change guest password etc.c) The device works perfectly fine even if you had it install via traditional ethernet + 192.168 .... So don't sweat over the fact of not getting the installation done via Cisco Connect.Take care and Happy Browsing :))

I think this router is great. Setup was a little bumpy for me, but once I had it up and running my home wi-fi was fast and smooth. The only problem for me is that the USB port is not HFS+ compatible, which means that I can't plug my external hard drive into the back of the router and use it as a wireless time machine drive for my macbook. Aside from this not making it time machine compatible, many external drives have HFS+ format, which is supposed to be the latest and best format according to what I've read. Turns out to be a deal-breaker since one of the main reasons I purchased this model was to have wireless access to my 2TB drive. I should have done more formatting homework before purchasing. I'm returning it and going with an airport extreme.

I am very satisfied with the Cisco-Linksys E3000. Lightning hit a tree on the corner of our property. The surge from this destroyed the cable to our house, the cable modem, and the router. I was told that the router was okay, so I spent days and days trying to make it work. Then I ordered the Cisco router. In about 45 minutes it was set up and working. We are very satisfied with the product. I highly recommend it.

The overall wireless performance is very good. Firewall features are Ok but lacking services like VPN. MAC based DHCP reservations are now included, which is great. I have tried the integrated NAS with an 8GB SanDisc USB thumb drive. It works but don't expect screaming performance. Theere are QoS settings supporting Rhapsody, iTunes, Skype and the major messenger services. Also includes an integrated FTP server which I have yet to mess with. The include Cisco Connect software is awful! Unfortunately you must use it if you want to setup a guest WiFi account (limited to 10 users), a feature not available through the web interface. The Cisco Connect configurator is incapable of syncing with any "advanced" setting made through the web interface. forcing you to use stupid password rules and other assumptions enforced when you use the software. Additionally the out-of-box setup CD-ROM application failed for me due to a non-expired DHCP lease from my broadband modem, ultimately requiring a modem rest to give up the old lease. The Linksys error screen suggested unplugging my modem for two minutes. Well, my Comcast broadband modem also provides phone service and has an internal battery, so unplugging for a few minutes would do nothing. Some users may become frustrated with such poorly thought through trouble shooting advice.Another annoyance is there seems no way to change the assigned "server" name.If you are familiar with the WRT54g series, the E3000 will seem very familiar. If you are less than network inclined and think you may use Cisco Connect, be prepared for a few tech support calls. For those interested in using the web interface out of the box; the default IP is 192.168.1.1 on the LAN ports. Default user name/password: admin/admin.Despite my gripes the wireless speed makes up for the short comings which may some day be fixed in a firmware update.

Overheats badly and always kicks you off the web, tech support is a joke and the funny thing is when I RMAed this back to cisco it took forever to get a new one back and it was just a refurb that still had the last users information on it all I can say is WOW. I bought this device from Amazon to connect our new Sony KDL52XBR9 HDTV thru our home's 2WIRE wireless DSL modem/router. I originally tried to use the WET's setup CD wizard as instructed by the prominent sticker on the CD sleeve that says "Run CD First before connecting cables", but the wizard never detected the WET. I gave up, moved the unit to the Sony, plugged everything together, followed the TVs setup instructions and the WET610n worked fine for about a week. Then the wireless transmit lite went dark and the TV said it had lost its internet connection. I downloaded the manual from Linksys, read it, and was finally able to get everything working again.Long (and frustrating) story short. Depending on your system requirements and application; the WET610n may take some technical skill to setup successfully and even then may require technical troubleshooting to resolve connectivity & setup issues. So far, upgrading the WET610n firmware and maybe resetting the idle timeout to the max has kept the device continuously on our network as desired but not without frequent intermittent dropouts and connectivity interruptions. The bitrate is not great either, just a measly 1Mbps. Our 5year old 2WIRE DSL wireless modem/router is capable of 22Mbps, so 1Mbps from the WET610n is disappointing and barely usable with typical content such as YouTube. Yes, I know we need a newer, faster wireless DSL modem, but SBC didn't want to provide one that would handle more than 1 wireless connection as opposed to this old 2WIRE unit that will handle up to 4 connections.I feel Sony could have picked a more user-friendly and connection-reliable device to specify in their setup manual. One that works seamlessly out of the box with Windows Vista.Update March 2010: Well, the WET again stopped transmitting after staying up for the last 6months. I was never able to get it back on my network so I could talk to it and fix it. I eventually called Linksys/Cisco Tech Support, which proved to be very frustrating. They use India foreign nationals for tech support who are nearly unintelligible. After 40min of going thru the usual "repair script" then being disconnected, I again had to fix it myself. I did a reset of the WET with its rear panel switch, plugged it into my laptop and was able to talk to it on its default IP. Upgraded the firmware to ver 1.0.03, entered all the IP and SSID info (My router IP had Changed! contrary to what Tech Support claimed)commanded it to connect & it did. As soon as it got assigned a new IP by my 2wire router it's new unknown IP made it impossible to talk to again. I would like to backup the configuration, but I cant find it's new IP! I think I may need some WLAN sniffer software to find it now. Any reccomendations?
