As the spouse of a Cisco employee, I have to sadly report that our E3000 is going back to Cisco and I am returning to my old standby Belkin router.The router cannot maintain a connection to a NAS drive and a media drive connected via USB. When streaming a movie via a uPnP DVD player, the router drops the connection and the stream drops. It also drops the connection to the drive via uTorrent.An hour with Cisco support confirmed that the router settings were all correct and admitted that the router is very new and might have an undiagnosed problem and referred me to customer service to return the drive.

I bought the router to replace my old linksys WRT42G2 router. I got the router in 3 days. I hooked it up and ran the set up cd. No problems with the setup. I connected it to my ipod touch and my xbox 360. I use to lag so much on xbox live and now there is no such thing as lag anymore. iPod touch is flawless on Wi-Fi. The range is incredible, I can go outside of my house and still get 5 bars, pretty impressive. I love this router. It does what I need it to do.Pros: Fast, 2.4 and 5.0 ghz. great for gaming.Cons: Runs hot, (place it somewhere it can get a lot of air flow). Pretty expensive.

This router absolutely has not met my expectations. I am replacing an old router expecting a significant upgrade and instead am experiencing a drop in performance. Specifically: - Range is quite low. I used to be able to go across the street and keep the signal, now I have trouble covering the outer rooms in my house. - Throughput is surprising low. My hardwire connection to the router measures roughly half the dl speed as my old router. Very surprising and disappointing. Wireless is also surprisingly slow, I had far better performance with old, non-'n' routers. Basically, the family is begging me to undo this upgrade. - Frequent reboots needed. After a few days, throughput steadily drops. I see this is now widely reported, especially on Linksys' support site, with no answer but keep rebooting the router. It is absurd to need to reboot a router every couple of days just to maintain speed.Overall, this piece of hardware is a pass. It touts itself as high performance, best of the best, but is no where close.

My old Belkin G Router went south on me so I started reading the reviews. I didn't want to waste a lot of time setting up a home network. Decided to get the e3000. Got home and plugged the CD in (first) and had my network up and running in a few minutes.With an old USB thumbdrive, I created an Easy Setup Key and our kitchen laptop connected with zero effort. Pretty sure you can buy a Cisco Easy Key but it's just a thumbdrive so why bother. You can also create easy keys for guests so they only have access to the internet (not your personal files). Pretty cool. I didn't realize how much our old router was slowing down our internet speed. We're on cable modem and my wife was excited how much faster the laptop is running. So far so good. *If things change I'll update this posting.* Really rely on these type reviews to save time and money.

Setting up the E3000 was very easy with supplied software. It has just worked for the last four months. Used with both wired and wireless connections, no problems.Additional note:We have been using the router for about four months now, and it has been flawless. Recently added an entertainment system, and wireless performance was much better than I expected for streaming video. Excellent Gaming performance as well (or at least so my son tells me...). No problems at all, even when installing devices on the network that were not planned when I got the router. Just seamless reliability.

I finally wound up taking my WET610N back to the retailer. I spent the majority of one whole day trying to get it to work. I spent 4 hours with their tech support people trying to iron out the problems. I'm not a noobie on this stuff, I work for a software company and I'm pretty much at easy tinkering with settings, but this was far and away much too complicated. In the end nothing worked right. I have a great wireless router, my PS3 picks up it's signal very well, I have three computers in my home (one a iMac) which all communicate with the wireless system very well, and the TV I was trying to hook it up to is brand new (Sony Bravia 46-inch XBR9, and I mention the Sony TV because Sony listed the WET610N as the recommended wireless bridge). I tested the TV internet functions with a 25-foot ethernet cord hooked up to my modem and know for a fact the TV internet functions work just fine. There is nothing wrong with the system I brought this WET610N into. While I see the positive reviews, I can only report that it was a very negative experience for me. The tech support people in the Phillipines deserve at least one attaboy, they were great, but the product itself should be an embarrassment for Linksys. This WET610N is nothing more than an antenna and it should work without all this exasperating bother. If you're like me, you expect something very much like plug-n-play. Well, it's not. Linksys, your tech support folks are truly top-notch, but your product stinketh. Do some work on this thing, guys. Really.

I decided to buy this product because my N router is a Linksys (WRT320N) and even though it shouldn't matter, I decided that keeping it in the family might be a good idea. Then came the setup... I ran the CD, as instructed (they make it sound so simple). I connected the WET610N to my router with the included ethernet cable. I tried multiple times, but the setup software just couldn't detect the bridge (error code 107, I think it was). I tried rebooting everything, as instructed. Still no luck. I finally just went into the web interface for my router and found the IP address of the direct-connected bridge. I took the IP address of the bridge and put that into IE and up came the bridge admin page. I logged in and after a couple of minutes of entering my router's security information manually, the bridge was working. I'm using the bridge with my PS3 and it has worked flawlessly ever since, providing much better numbers than the PS3's internal wifi. So I'd give the bridge itself a 5, but the setup software a 1.

I have had this for several days and this thing still does Not work.My ipod touch sometime can connect, sometime cannot.WHat I hate is ZERO documentation at all to assist me, just a 75 page PDF file on a cd.I have a 3-4 year old router that worked fine, i just felt like upgrading for fun..This has not been fun so far.UpdateFinally after several weeks it seems to be working.I finally switched the channel this router broadcasts. I am using the 2.4 frequency.. but within that, there are 20 separate channels you can choose from, to help avoid interferance with other networks, phones and even microwave ovens.I just randomly changed the channel from the default, to like 9 or 10 I think.. and bamm instantly fixed all the problesm I was having. Now I have super fast ( although I am just using 802.11g, not the N at this point).The most alloying thing, it that there should have been some SIMPLE instructions ( ON PAPER) to tell me to change the broadcast channel. I only figured out to try that solution because I have some networking text books to read through.

Do a search on Cisco's home community for "E3000 wireless slowdown reboot". The thread is over 100 posts now with many people experiencing the same problem. Knowing Cisco & the rate at which they fix things I don't have any hope for speedy resolution. I will update this review if and when they fix it - until then I recommend going with a different vendor.Update: The firmware release in December 2010 fixed the long-standing issue I referred to previously. The E3000 in it's current state as of May 2011 is a reasonable investment...3 to 4 stars. I'd probably go for 4 stars if Cisco's consumer support wasn't maddening. I won this router in a contest - if I were to buy one I'd probably lean toward the D-LINK Dir-655 XTREME.

I bought mine refurbished in December 2009. Since setting it up it has been 100% reliable, never dropping the connection from our Wireless-G DSL modem to our Mac Pro. The only time this unit has been power cycled was during a power outage. Occasionally the DSL modem gets reset, either because I change the configuration or because it crashes. This bridge reconnects automatically every time, never have to touch it.One thing that confused me during setup was the network speed displayed on the status page kept dropping to 1Mbps. I thought I hadn't found the right spot for it to get a good signal and kept trying different locations. Eventually I realized that it automatically drops the speed when there's no traffic. When there's traffic on its branch of the network, the speed jumps back up to 54Mbps.

I bought this after my old router died. Sadly, the designers decided to give it a nice, futuristic shape for no particular reason. Also sadly, thanks to that it won't fit normally into the space it has to go in; it sits at a diagonal angle, and looks just plain stupid, so knowing that they intentionally made it bigger than necessary, it irks me that I have to put up with that. I can't imagine why they design stuff to take up more space than necessary. As another review mentioned, it needs 'feet' to keep it off the surface, but of course in my case, it's wedged into the space at an angle so it IS off the surface.

I bought this for my new Sony Blu-Ray BP-N460 in order to stream Netflix and Amazon On-Demand. The reason I bought this was because Sony recommended it on their website. After having tried the setup on the included CD (which didn't work at all), I went online for help. I found that it is better to ditch the CD and just follow the on-screen instructions with the Blu-Ray player. Those instructions were actually very easy to follow and the Blu-Ray does everything for you. Well, it actually worked at first and I had a connection and everything was good. However, after about 10 minutes, the wireless connection would drop. After a reboot, I had a connection again. Again, after 10 minutes, you guessed it, lost connection. You get the picture. After researching the problem online, I found that it was just not worth it. I returned it and bought the Netgear XAVB101 Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit. All I can say is that if you want hassle free internet connectivity, then GET THE NETGEAR XAVB101. It literally took two minutes to set up (plug in the Blu-Ray to one Ethernet Adapter and an electrical outlet and plug the other into your router and electrical plug and your done!). I was streaming in five minutes from the time I opened the box! If you want a no hassle way to stream to Blu-Ray, go with the Netgear. If you want headaches and frustration, stick with the Linksys.

I purchased this router specifically because I had range limitations in the extreme corners of my house. I was upgrading from a competing vendor (NG) solution.Everything about the router I love. I particularly love the USB attached storage on which I have set up a backup solution.But - the range is EXACTLY what I had before. Where I had 5 bars - I have 5, where 4 - 4 ... and where 0 - I still have 0.One thing that occurs to me is the internal antennas. The one model below this one has external antennas - and there are solutions to replace those antennas with powered options etc.I don't have the budget to experiment with triple digit hardware (and - I love the USB attached storage) so ... I'm off to explore repeater technology.

I was using it to connect a desktop wirelessly with a router. It is always hot (even the computer is turned off), and the light is always on. The speed is slow, and connection is so unrelaible that I just can not use the PC to browse online. Had to buy a wireless PCI card to connect the PC to the wireless router.

I bought the Cisco-Linksys E3000 High-Performance Wireless-N Router to try to improve the wireless connection from our cable modem in an upstairs office to a Roku on the ground floor in order to stream live HD video (MLBTV). The speed of the E3000 may have been faster than the old wireless router (a Lynksys WRT54GL 802.11g), but the signal was much weaker on the 2.4MHz band (3 out of five bars) and especially the 5MHz band (2 out of 5 bars) of the E3000. I attempted to boost the signal using a tinfoil Windsurfer Antenna, but it made the signal even worse. I reinstalled the very reliable $60 Lynksys WRT54GL (5 out of 5 bars), and I returned the Cisco-Linksys E3000 High-Performance Wireless-N Router. I will next try to improve the connection by avoiding wireless with a NETGEAR XAVB101 Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit, but I suspect that our original wireless router may provide the best connection after all.

Wow . . . I replaced an old router with this one. The out-of-the-box setup couldn't have been easier. Got a laptop, an ipad, and a Roku player all connected wirelessly with absolutely no problems. Just make the easy setup flash drive and follow the instructions. And it's doing what I asked -- better range. Full HD on Netflix now from across the house. I was usually a 2 or 3 using the old g router. I have no idea what tech support is like because I didn't need them.

This is my second Cisco router. Each time technical support was required during installation. The E3000 set-up was relatively easy to set up, but at first it didn't appear to provide a secure connection. When technical support was called, the customer service representative couldn't explain the security offered by the product. At one point he asked for my password which seemed very much out of the ordinary. After rebooting the system, the security feature became apparent. So, why did I buy a second router? the first reverted back to the default settings which did not provide encryption. Because it was out of warranty, Cisco would not provide technical support to determine the problem. So, bottom line, Cisco does provide quality products, but there is too much reliance upon technical support, and that support has been less than satisfactory. Now, there's an improvement opportunity for Cisco, if they care.

I'm a little disappointed with this router. It has a good range but I expected more from the storage functionality, it crashes when tranfering big files, it complains that my HD is incompatible but all of a sudden recognizes it and the media server works only when it wants to. To sum with, it ended like an expensive normal N router.

I've been using this router for a montha and a half now. It's been flawless. I was extreamly easy to set up. within 15 minutes I had it up and running both wired and wirelessly. I love the file server feature of this router. I, also, find the ability to assign IP addresses based on component MAC addresses to be a very usefull feature. I recommend and have recommened this router to anyone who has or wants to set up a home or small office network.

So I bought this for my PS3 since everything else in the house is Wireless N now. Bottom line: it doesn't work. I get more reliable connection with my PS3 keeping it at it's default Wireless G. At least I could use this to hook up one my TV's that are internet ready, but it makes it an expensive buy for just an occasional use item, and not something like a PC or gaming console. (Not sure for use with XBOX 360, b/c got the MS Wireless N Adapter for 360 (which works great).)

The router is extremely complicated to set up. Had to use Tech Support to get it set up. I set up a network attached hard drive which I now cannot access! I guess the router is ok, but I thought it was going to upgrade my network to wireless-N protocol. It didn't! Says I still connect with wireless-G! Plus, it wouldn't connect with the Netgear print server I had on the network before and Cisco wouldn't help me with it. Neither would Netgear, so I just had to remove it! I think I just wasted my money on this product

Found this while looking for an alternative to buying an $80 proprietary Samsung wireless dongle for my "wireless enabled" Blue-Ray player. I followed the quick setup instructions and was connected to my Belkin wireless router with no problems or confusion. Have been using this device to stream Netflix movies and Pandora internet radio and am very happy with it. Buying a second one so I can move my desktop computer across my office without stringing CAT V cable around the walls. Highly recommend this item.

This is the worst device that I've ever set up in my life. That's the reason that this device only gets 3-star rating. The 3 stars are for the performance when it works. I bought this wireless adaptor for my SONY Bravia TV so I could watch Netflix movies on demand over Verizon Fios Network. The device, which was initialized using its QUICK INSTALLATION GUIDE, lasted about a week then quitted working with power LED flashing. I tried to initialize but I kept again getting "wireless device not found Error 109/107?" Suspected it was a hardware problem. Retuned it to Amazon got another new one with new version of firmware. But I still could not initialize it and got the same error. Called the free tech support three times still could not resolve the problem. Finally, I gave up and signed up for the paid service. The tech person took over the control of my computer and walked me through the manual setup. Two weeks after purchasing this unit, it finally works. If you insist on doing it by yourself for manual setup, you'd better read up the user guide for Advanced Configuration. (Per the paid service, if you need to turn off firewall by removing or disabling internet security softwareas Norton 360, you will be able to do Auotsetup. Also, when the power led flashing sometimes means the device needs firmware update)

As many other people have stated, this router gets very hot, as the ventilation on it is extremely poor. Just setting it on a shelf, the bottom of the router would get so hot that I couldn't touch it for more than a few seconds. Once it got this hot, the router would become very slow, and needed to be periodically rebooted. I tried resting the router diagonally against a wall so that the top and bottom would be exposed to air, but this did not help. I now have a little 4 inch fan pointed directly at the router (which is still angled against the wall). With this fan, the router stays cool to the touch, and works great. I would not recommend this router to others though, as you shouldn't have to do something like this for such an expensive product.

Recently bought a new house that was much larger than my previous one. The old access point just didn't have the range we needed to get from one end of the house to another. This reaches with no problems even on the older 802.11G band. I wish there were more options for port forwarding/NAT -- there is a hard limit to the number of entries you can make. Enough for most people, but not for those with advanced needs. I'm a technical guy so I also didn't like the 'easy' setup options they gave. No need for this extra software to slow down my PC. Would have been nice to have a default password for the admin console so I could just go in and configure what I wanted instead of using their software to connect the first time.

Let me preface this by saying that my rating has no bearing on how well the device works once you get it set up and running. I wasn't able to get that far because I could not get it to communicate with my router.While I may not be a computer programmer, I'm no slouch when it comes to hooking stuff like this up. After running the startup disc several times without success, I contacted Linksys customer support. The first time I spoke with someone in India who I could barely understand, and who could hardly understand me. It didn't help that the connection was poor either. After an hour and a half, I was told the hardware was defective and that I should send it back and get another. I did.When the second one arrived, I ran the setup and encountered the same error message. Called tech support again and spent another hour and a half on the phone with someone from India...again. This person was a little easier to understand, but not much better. At the end of our conversation he was unable to help me and placed me on hold so that he could refer me to a "senior technician". After 10 seconds or so, the call disconnected. Three hours with tech support and nothing to show for it! I'm sending the product back and buying one from a different manufacturer.

I had been looking to upgrade my current Linksys cable modem/router (which I had for 4-5 years and virtually NEVER had a problem with it) to the newest wireless-N format and for some reason I decided to try something other than Cisco Linksys. After spending $200 + dollars and 3-4 weeks on 2 other routers from different manufacturers (with which I had numerous problems from setup thru maintaining a consistent connection) I bought this one. Set up was a breeze and once I maintained initial connections for all my devices throughout the house I haven't had a single router-related connection issue. And it wasn't much more expensive than the other lesser routers I tried.

the E3000 has been amazing for the past week. My previous router by Cisco broke in one day of use so i wasn't sure if i should stick with them, but I'm glad i did.Set-up: I'm pretty experienced with setting up routers, but strangely this one kept failing to connect. After a couple tries afterward, it worked without a problem.**If anyone has a similar problem with set-up, i suggest just unplugging all the wires and waiting one minute. After that, just follow the set-up disk once again and it should work**Uses:Online gaming- rarely any lagging so far with either my ps3 or my brother's psp,E-mail/ internet usage- extremely fast :],Once again though, after the stressful set-up, the router worked amazingly. Great price and rarely any lagging leads me to belief that this is an amazing router!

When it worked, it worked great. I was using it to stream Netflix to a Samsung Blu-Ray Player. Setup was very easy and fast following the instructions on the CD. I had it up and running in no time and thought how great it was I did not have to crawl through the attic to run a cat5 cable. The problem is that it drops communication with the router (less than 25 feet away) on a daily basis and has to be reset. What a pain! We have frequent power outages where I live and that to would cause a need for a reset. I sent it back and going the hardwire route.

A few bumps along the way in setting up, but once I had it up and running the E3000 has been outstanding. The connection to my wife's PC at the other end of the house is excellent (signal strength 100% and speed of 144 mbps -- about 5 times faster than before). My laptop now connects at 300+. Be sure to install a Wireless-N adapter if your computer doesn't already have one, so you can take advantage of the increased speed of the router.

Bought this unit (NEW) a few week ago, tried to install but did not work.Called Cisco support and they confirmed the unit is defectiveThey now want me to pay to return the device that is defective, I do not live in the US this will cost me more to resend this unit than purchasing another. Waste of my hard earn money!!!!

I bought this b/c I was having wireless connections issues with my ps3. Upgraded my router to Netgear rangemax N series router, setup a wireless N network on the 5ghz band. Configuring this bridge was a snap to find my new network. Followed the directions on the setup wizard (I'm usually not a fan of setup wizards but this one works really well) Connected to my PS3 and experienced a speed increase from 8mb/s to 21mb/s! No more lagging while online gaming and I also stream baseball from my MLB account. Where before I would get choppy and a bit grainy quality and lag( the MLB app auto streams the feed quality based on your connection) now I get full HD streams and no lags!Highly recommend it if you are purchasing it for your PS3 or other consoles

I purchased this unit together with the Sony N460 Blu-ray player. I use the player for streaming video in a 2nd floor bedroom. My desktop and router are in the basement. I have Verizon Fios internet and TV service. The set-up was simple. I did not use the linksys set-up disk. I plugged it into the Blu-Ray player via ethernet cable, plugged in the AC and let the Sony on-screen set-up do the work. 20 minutes and I was watching my first netflix video. The blue lights on the unit are bright, especially at night. I put the unit in the storage compartment under the TV stand. Even closed-up in the cabinet, the reception is perfect. I stream HD content without a hic-up. The images are a little cleaner on my X-box 360 which is also wireless, but that unit is located in the basement closer to the router and uses the X-box proprietory wifi antenna. All in all this is a fine unit. I haven't had problems like other Fios subscribers have reported and again, I skipped the set-up disk that several people on the web reported as being complicated. I also like this unit because in the future it will still be usable with any ethernet equipped equipment.

I bought this on the recommendation of the Sony Blu Ray DVD manual. It recommended it! Even after reading a bunch of reviews I went ahead and bought it on Amazon.com.I skipped the CD set up based on comments here because I have a Mac and a Mac network.So far so good. I plugged it in and used the Sony setup menu. Pretty Soon I had it up and running.Unfortunately, when my Wife and I sat down to watch Netflix within 4 minutes the DVD player lost the signal.I had to reboot the devise again and again and again... well you get the picture.It simply does not work, at all.This is the DVD player that I bought.Sony BDP-N460 Blu-ray Disc Player (Black)

Overall this is a good ethernet bridge, but it has it's problems - both in operation and in installation. It worked poorly with my older WRT54GS router. I had constant loss of connectivity to the router, requiring powering off the bridge and powering it back on. But it works extremely well with the newer WRT610N - it's been a very solid performer against that router. Connections have been rock solid and no power-cycling.Now setup.. that was a little more challenging. And I'll tell ya why. Some toolbox at Linksys packaged the setup wizard for the Mac so that the "contents" of the App package are zipped up, but NOT the root "app" package directory itself. That means you have to:- Create a directory called WET610N.app (remember to type '.app')- Answer "Add" to the "Are you sure you want to add the extension ".app" to the end of the name?- Right-click on the new directory and select "Show package contents"- Put the contents of the Mac setup wizard ZIP file INTO the new directory that you just navigated to in the previous step.- Go back to the previous directory.- Double-click on the new app you just configured- Enjoy configuring your bridge.If I hadn't had to just describe THIS in this Amazon review, then I would have given a better rating.

What a piece of junk. I use this in conjunction with a Linksys 160N Router. The two devices are nearly within eye-shot of each other and have the latest firmware.I play MW2 and have had no problems using a long ether cable to the router. However, I wanted to rid myself of the long cable snaking through our basement, so I bought this wireless bridge. My mistake.This device does seem to work fine in regards to streaming video. It fails miserably in gaming. I can play MW2 anywhere from 5-60min before the device loses it's connection. I've set a static ip to no avail. Continuing to see if there is something else I can do, but it is surprising that device constantly loses it's connection to the router. Buying D-Link next time.

I don't like the Linksys setup. I would have preferred a web interface, but once you have it setup I works fine. Would recommend it. Have one hooked up to a XBox and another hooked up to a laser printer.Amazon is always a great shopping experience.

Router is easy to setup and performs well...However, over time (+/- 24hr) download speeds decrease to a crawl and require you to reset the router. This router also does not handle streaming very well either....constantly disconnecting and reconnecting every few minutes. These problems are not unique to my setup as you can see in the Cisco support forums. If you are up to a challenge and don't mind scouring the forums for potential fixes, this router is for you. If mine was still returnable, I would do so today and look hard at the dlink D-655.Additional comments: After following the tweaks and suggestions in the Forums, the router has performed very well for over 72 hrs without a reset. All previous issues have cleared up.

I bought this because it's part number was a recommended product for use with my newly purchased Sony Blu-Ray player. I needed to connect my Blu-Ray player to my home network via this Wireless N Bridge and my Wireless G Broadband router by Linksys. I plugged in my Blu-Ray player, a 32GB USB memory stick I had laying around, and power. I followed the instructions contained with the unit and presto I was up and running with no problems. Now I can watch you tube videos and a lot more on my TV in HD. You can purchase and download movies using this setup but I haven't yet tried that. I have a very high speed internet connection through Time-Warner cable service that makes smooth running possible.

this router is amazing! don't listen to the naysayers. i took a chance on this router despite them and i'm so glad i did!this is the best router i've ever owned, and i'm above average in my computer knowledge. setup is easy through both methods (software and web interface) and they've since fixed the problems people were having with setup through a firmware update.signal is steady and strong. i bought this for use with my Roku to make my HD streaming reliable and boy did it deliver! my Roku XR now connects to its own dedicated 5GHz band with this router while all my other machines (2 lappys and one desk) use the 2.4GHz band.wonderful purchase! i highly recommend!
