Not what I was expecting at all. The Picture is noisy no matter what you do. The microphone is next to useless. Cannot set gain and exposure to automatic independant of each other, which might help with the noise. The drivers are a heafty download of 38 MB WITHOUT software and take up 100 MB on your Hard Drive. There is no way to use this cam on linux eitehr since it doesn't use regular logitech drivers. Overall a bad webcam unless all you want is a webcam for the kids to talk to grandma on, then it's an ok deal if you happen to find it on sale. However, most generic brands are cheaper and work better than this.

I just received this webcam yesterday and in less than ten minutes had it set up on each of my two computers (one with Win2000 Prof- Dell Latitude C610 and the other with XP Home-Dell 4400).The installation of the software is easy, though I would suggest the custom install for those who know a bit about what programs they want and don't want loaded.The picture is fantastic, particularly if you have a bright light or window behind you! The focus ring works well to adjust to different preferred distances from the webcam.The software suite is easy and intuitive to use. Create an .avi movie file with sound by selecting the button and clicking start. To send it to someone simply right-click your resulting file to find the 'email' option. The built in auto-compressor is a nice feature bringing the 2Mb movie to a 60K size for sending that all but the most full email accounts can receive. It took me less than 3 minutes to send a friend a 10sec movie note. For less than $35 including the mail-in rebate, considering it's ease of use and clear picture, it's probably your best deal on a webcam/mic/camera all-in-one.

I actually thought this was a defective product because I just couldn't adjust the grainy, unbalanced colors or jumpy movements caused by low frame rates. Well, from what I read here, it looks like it is just a product of very low quality, unacceptable at any price range. I will think twice before I buy another Logitech. :-(

I bought this one few days ago. The quality of picture from this web cam is very bad. Especially it is very hard to get focused. (...)I spent 10+ minutes to focus, and this is the best result I can get. Compared to my old one (a no-brand from Taiwan), this product is really bad.

I bought this camera 2 weeks ago. Unlike many other posters here, I had little trouble with the software. I had it installed in 10 minutes. The video is good. Picture gets grainier under artificial light or low lit conditions, but it it is still decent. The one BIG drawback I found with this webcam is how sensitive the microphone is. When talking to someone over AOL IM, we both have to wear headphones. This gets rid of the feedback which creates a horrible background noise. Another solution I have tried is to put a piece of scotch tape over the mike! This eliminates the background noise, at the expense of somewhat dampening the overall audio. Anyway, I would give this camera 4 stars if it weren't for the awful microphone/audio.

This is the worst camera no matter what you spend for it! I had it installed and after 20 minutes uninstalled it!! I bought it because of the Logitech name. Won't rely on them for webcams... Very, very grainy picture with a lot of lag! Also very dark picture! I am running a Dell P4 Dimension 8300 with 512M RAM and Windows XP Home Edition.

For less [...], considering it's ease of use and clear picture, it's probably your best deal on a webcam/mic/camera all-in-one.I've sent 3 to relatives in Europe and now we 'get together' regularly over MSN Messenger by video! Though my sister's connection is too slow for Messenger, she can now send me video clips of my nephew so I can see him grow up between visits. What a treat!If you don't have a digital camera and want to use your webcam to take some quick email-quality photos I would suggest that you spend more and get the Logitech Pro4000. With 1Mb picture resolution there's a noticeable improvement in the quality of both still photos and video.

I like this webcam! The image is charper than most of my friends'. You won't see a grainy pic if you adjust the light rihgt. Normally I will get a decent image at night when I turn on both my floor lamp and desk lamp. But don't expect the color to be perfect. I think they used special lighting to make the demo pic in the image libray look vivid. What I got looks kind of pale. Even you adjust the saturation level, it will only add more red to the image. In fact, some of my friends' webcams do a better job in color management. All in all, this is a good cam for the price. It meets my need for a decent image.

I bought Logitech QuickCam Messenger. The software was Image Studio 7.3.0. (platform: Win XP Pro, P4 2,4MHz). Maybe it is a good camera, but have not seen good perfomance yet. The weakest point is software, it is disaster to use, very rigid, designed for a 10 year old a bit debilitated child, has silly user interface.It lacks specific support for QuickCam Messenger. Although software help explains how to use Motion Detection, there is no such tab.Last but not least. It is not possible to contact Logitech by e-mail.

I love this little inexpensive webcam. The Mic works well, and the video quality is GREAT! Auto adjusts well in most cases, with a few custom settings you can get really good color. Works great on Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger. WARNING: Great for my purposes, but the software that comes with it mostly useless and OBSOLETE. The software was for the days back when Webcams weren't integrated into chat programs.

This is a great webcam. It has smooth video and a clear microphone. It is definantly the best in it's price range. The included software is easy to use. Thank you to the previous reviewer who suggested to put a light behind it. I have done that and no one has ever had a problem seeing me. The $15 rebate was also a nice incentive, bringing it down to the price of the cheaper one in Walmart. Great buy, excellent value.

I bought my quickcam express 2 months ago, I use it everyday to chat with my family on the other side of the world(approx 3000 miles away)and this is the very best thing I have done to bring us all closer. About the picture quality I read in other reviews acctually it depends on the processor you'r using it on. When I use it on my LapTop which is pantium 3 with 160 mhz ram and all loaded with advance tech options, this camera works there like I am looking in the mirror with extreamly clear image resolution and when I use it at my home PC which has only 16 mhz ram and limited options it has just very acceptable/not good enough resolution, so for a good processor it is a best Web Cam you can buy at this price.

Every time I tried to move the camera,it would freeze up and I'd end up having to reboot.Click on the top to take a picture and if it touched it on the mic,it would freeze up.No help on that subject either. Very poor picture if you're on yahoo chat.That is all I have right now.I asked around,unfortunately after I spent the money on it and found out that it freezes a lot and you end up having to reboot your pc.Too much trouble for such a little thing.Don't buy this camera.

I bought this because it was in my price range. The quality isn't great, but it does what I need it to do.If you need a still or video PC camera for school, don't get this one. Spend the extra money and get a really nice one. If you just need a PC camera for instant messageing and sharing photos, this is a good camera.

This was the worst camera! The installation was easy, but most are. THE PICTURE QUALITY IS [bad]! PLEASE dont waste your money on this, I am going to try the 4000 model tomorrow, so I will come back and give a review on that as well. I'm hoping the CCD on the 4000 will improve the quality.

Simply plug and play on XP. But do NOT install drivers from enclosed CD. Had to uninstall drivers ( from CD ) to make the Webcam work in Yahoo Messenger !! Have not check this product with AOL &/or MSN.

The picture quality is horrible. It's all fuzzy and needs a hella lot of lighting. I have to turn on 2 lights to get an average video. Not good for a first buy.

The Logitech QuickCam Messenger WebCam is a great little toy for the money. I really can't compare it to other webcams because this is the first one I've ever used. However, installation is pretty easy but takes a strangely long 15-20 minutes. It integrates seamlessly into Yahoo Messenger. It also works alongside AOL IM and MSN Messenger but takes separate software (included). The only catch is the other side has to download special Logitech software to see it with AOL and MSN (I don't know if Yahoo requires an add-in or whether the webcam feature is already included). Still, when I used it with a friend they could see me in less than 5 minutes including the download. As you'd expect, the quality of the feed depends on the connection on both sides. Overall, a good product for a small investment.

Easy (however long) install. Easy set up. I was able to start using it with yahoo and netmeeting in no time. The image quality is good, in fact much better than some of the earlier (and OEM) versions of the same camera. They must have done something to improve it. I bought one for my mom, I liked it enough that I am buying another one for myself.

I bought this cam because if its brandname.. The install is quick, but the quality is poor. I bought a Veo stingray and the quality was alot better. I'd suggest this cam to anyone who's a beginner but if youre looking for good quality pictures go with the Intel Pc Cam Deluxe or the Intel Pc Camera Pro. Or maybe the Logitech Clicksmart510!

1.)Logitech QuickCam Express is not compatible with Windows 98 "VIAVT83C572/VT82C586 PCI USB Universal Host Controller." There is no Windows update available. The company knows there is a problem but, they do not let the customer in on this tid-bit. And 2.) The old 7.2 disc version is being shipped: I was directed to visit a website in which I had to download the newest version 7.3 plus other time consuming downloads. I did not let the Logitech support people off of the hook. 3.)I complained mightily. Finally a tech support person, out of dispair, on the fourth day advised me that the camera itself was probably defective and that I should just return it.

Because we had a limit on money, I went for this cheap camera. I'm suprised it worked so well! IT has some really cool games using the camera that come with it. Installation was a little harder than they say and there are still more things you must download for the Video IM's. It is a little complicated to send video emails. The graphics could be better. But for what it comes with, it is a very good value!

Normally something Logitech rules the house! I spent about $... with a $... rebate on 2 of these...about $.../camera. I expected to get decent quality out of them. I have seen the x-10 cameras that have pretty good quality for under $20.Needless to say, Logitech has disappointed this time...a first! The pictures are really grainy at 320 and not so bad at 640. The camera is easy to setup.I recommend downloading the install from their website. If you use the CD, it is a few revisions behind AND throws a lot of unneeded stuff on your system, such as Real Player and Yahoo IM. If I want them, I will download them. However, I also understand marketing and profit margins.I may try the other Logitech cams or search for good reviews on other products.Bob

This is a neat and easy to install webcam. The picture quality is not brilliant, but it is about what I expected. The base is not a great design, I have it mounted on top of the monitor, but I don't think it is very secure. The base should mould onto the monitor surface better.I got it for sending photos of the kids to my family. For that it is cheap and easy, and the kids love playing with it, and seeing their photos on screen.At that price it is hard to go wrong! But for real quality photos I know I will have to shell out for a proper digital camera.

Its easy and inexpensive; takes maybe 10-15 minuets to install; You just insert the software and follow the instructions; and at the right time you plug it into your USB (the software tells you when) and then you go trough a set up process, to adjust the camera and mic. It works perfectly well with Yahoo Chat.

When I first got this camera I didn't have much experience (and still don't) in the WebCam world, so I didn't know what was good. The camera is super easy to install, and for a cam beginner like myself, the picture quality and everything seemed great to start with.Then came the fact that if you do not have a well illuminated room, you most-likely will not be seen clearly with this camera. The further you get from it, the darker you appear. You're probably thinking that it's only natural, but I'm not exaggerating when I say the image quality [is terrible]. Another thing about not having proper lighting is that the images appear grainy and unclear. Basically, the only way to get a crystal clear image is if you shove a desktop lamp in your face and stand closely to the camera. And we don't want to melt our faces now, do we?I do believe that with a better PC Camera, the lighting that I currently have at home would be just fine.I'd recommend the camera to anyone who doesn't worry about quality and just wants to be "seen". But for the serious online guy/gal who has a webcam site or does video conferencing frequently, I'd tell you to look elsewhere if what you want is real good quality captures/video. I'm still looking around myself so I can get rid of this one.-Angie...

I purchased this camera on sale with rebates and paid much less than retail. The camera operates fine for me but the quality of the picture is not very good. If you have bright lighting it works fine although it is tough to get it to look focused unless what you are capturing is very close to the camera. The software that comes with it allows you to take snapshots and video clips. It provides software to broadcast your webcame to the world but you will need to eventually pay for a spotlife account and this is the only option given by the software. If you are buying this to just let the kids mess around and make little video clips or just for instant messenger duty it will work fine. Just don't purchase for the retail price! FIY - I have mine hooked to a HP N5495 PIII 1.06 GHZ 512 MB Win XP Home laptop. For the price I paid I'm satisfied with the results of this average beginner webcam.

For the average cam user, this would be a good purchase. Just make sure you have plenty of lighting around you. The image quality is fair at best..It always seems to be a bit grainy and distorted no matter what I do. But look at the price.Basically, if you take a picture of yourself with this cam, it will look like you. However, the color will be off, and you might suddenly have new lines in your face. Blue eyes are always green or brown in the cam pictures. Oh well.The cam hardware itself wasn't thought out very well. I eventually ended up just duct taping the cam to wherever I wanted to take a picture because it kept falling over. The cord is much too heavy for the cam, and it will just slide out of its base and fall over after you've spent time adjusting it to where you want it to be. Logitech could easily have invested just a tiny bit more time into creating a better cam base.The software that comes with the cam is very basic. You can adjust the picture resolution to 3 different sizes, and take a pic. You can also make a short video. The only bug I've run across is the Export video to email feature. The software adds its own little video player to the videos that you send people, and it always crashes their computers. If you want to take some pictures or have a webcam on a site, this would be a decent cam to use. There are better ones out there, but they're more costly.

I thought it was just me when I plugged in my camera and it wasn't very good. Then I read the reviews and saw that the camera stinks in general. Picture quality is grainy and reddish no matter how I adjust the settings. It works no better than my webcam from 3 yrs ago, which only goes up to 320 x 240 resolution.

I agree with most.. this camera [stinks]. Do not buy if you want high qaulity video. Do not buy unless the subject will be well lit and very close to the camera. The camera installs easily and is easy to use.You can make the base work a little better by wraping some tape around the metal peg. This will increase the friction between the cam and the base, making it more stable. The metal peg can also be unscrewed from the camera allowing tripod attachment or a custom made base.The best usb webcam I've seen is the 3com homeconnect. Although quite pricy, it delivers a clear, detailed, colorful image even in low light. Consider using a video capture card. With a video capture card you can plug in any video source... camcorder, dvd, digital camera, miniature spycam etc...

I was searching for a new webcam as the one I currently have (a Xirlink IBM PC Camera Pro) is fine, but I wanted to add another on a second computer. First I tried the MicroInnovations PC350 cam, which had pretty poor image quality (especially in lowlight), so then I returned it for this Logitech Quick Cam Express. This Logitech was worse than the MicroInnovations! How's that for "brand name quality"? I was so disgusted with the poor quality of this camera's picture that I was shocked it was even being sold. It's picture looks like trying to tune into a TV station from Antarctica using the antenna from an old 70s color TV. Totally unacceptable by ANY standards, especially considering my three year old camera (which can now be purchased for LESS than this brand-new Logitech) completely surpasses this offering in every way. Isn't this stuff supposed to be getting better and cheaper all the time???

I've owned this webcam for about a year. It still works, but occassionally my computer won't detect it for whatever reason and I'll have to unplug and replug it into my USB port. That's the only maintenance problem I've had with it.The picture quality isn't too great. It's very grainy and you can hardly see anything in low light. When I do turn on a light, it totally washes out everything and makes it all white. In order to see things clearly you have to settle for a reddish yellowish hue by using the "default" setting.The good points are that the camera is very small and portable and extremely easy to install. The software allows you to create pictures, videos, and a live webcam that's really easy to use.On the whole, I wouldn't recommend this camera because it shows very poor quality images, but I suppose you should expect that considering how cheaply priced it is. You're better off spending a little more for better quality.

This camera performs excellent under bright daylight. The picture is clear and if you set the contrast right, images look great. The only thing I dislike about the QuickCam is that it's very difficult to set it on a table, on top of the monitor, anywhere without it toppling back or falling sideways. The round camera comes with a rubber base to put it on. The round camera has something like a metal hook or screw on the bottom, and the base has a slit on top. You're supposed to slide the screw back and forth on the slit in order to point it where you want to record, but once you get the angle, the heavy cable pulls the camera back and it goes toppling to the floor. Very frustrating at the least. I found myself moving towards where tha camera was finally pointing.Otherwise, the software is pretty easy to use, even though it takes very long to load. I have Windows ME. You can record videos of unlimited length. I've had so much fun with this thing!

This is easy to install, easy to update (online), and very very easy to use. Don't expect super high resolution photographic excellence, but if you want to talk via video chat online, take snap shots, or send recorded messages this is the business.More than enough for the avergae computer user, highly recommended.

I am very satisfied with this camera. I chat with people all around the world and they can see me very well. The installation of this product was a breeze. you just plug it in, install the software and go! I own other Logitech products and am very satisfied with all of them! Sure, you can go out and spend hundreds of dollars on a web cam but, if your looking to get a neet little web cam @ a good price, go for this one!

This being my first experience with a web cam, I was not expecting any miracles. What I got was a major disappointment. My review of this camera is largely based on the unecceptable image quality. Familiar with Logitech, I'm surprised at the lack of quality visually speaking. A friend of mine had bought a competitors web cam for about half the price, and after I had a chance to compare similar still shots side by side, I immediatly returned this camera. Sit and fiddle with the minimal image correction options all day long only to end up with an uglier picture then you started off with. Like I said, I'm no web cam expert or anything, but it seems to me the number one criteria for a quality web cam is the image. And that is the area this product severely suffers in. A horrible first experience for sure. Take my advice, do the research, and avoid this camera.

I bought this camera to replace an older model of quickcam which looks the same and is also USB. I replaced it because for some reason Windows XP doesn't like it and it can't be used with XP since the OS upgrade. This camera installed easy but I had to D/L the XP software off the web as the software it came with is old. I expected at least the same quality as the other since it's been years and I now have the best OS available. NO!!! The picture quality is crap and can't be tweaked. There is this total grainy appearance to the images and the DPI seems much less even though its still 150DPI. Don't waste your money.....I don't see any resolution/quality differences with the more expensive models either.... good luck, Mike

All I got on this cam is Yellow Orange Images. It is so grainy that it is hard to distinguish what is being shown. I am very unhappy with this cam and I am returning it today.

I like the color orange. I like it a lot. I also like red. It's just that, crazy me, I don't like every image that I take with this cam to be red and orage. I like dots, too, but I don't like my pictures to look like a collection of orange and red wads of gum stuck to a wall. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money to get a camera that's rated better than this one. I am returning it. Oh, plus the software that comes with it is a joke. Feh.

For a low priced camera this is a fun item. The software doesn't install correctly on Windows 2000 -- you need to set permissions on the registry and their tech support can send you a document about that problem.Netmeeting is great fun if you know other people with a camera. However, this camera has a CMOS sensor which is grainy and noisy compared to the more expensive CCD sensor. That means this cam is pretty much worthless for taking still pictures. But for videoconferencing it is a solid inexpensive camera.Logitech has a great developer's kit for free download if you want to write your own software.

This camera is easy to install, but its not that hard to set a piece of manure on your monitor in the first place. The picture is absolute garbage. get a good one.. leave this one alone..
