This is my first webcam so I can't compare it to previous models as other reviewers did below. I've had no problems with the web cam using MSN messenger. The sound and picture quality is great. If I move around quickly, the picture will blur but I think that's pretty standard given the level of this cam. The clip on works nicely and fits onto my laptop securely. The camera does get hot but as far as I can tell it has no effect on the camera's performance. I've heard you need a USB 2 port in order to make the camera work properly which MAY explain some of the problems other reviewers found. Overall, I recommend the cam. After rebate, the cam was just over $50. For that price, the web cam has performed extremely well.

This is a excelent product the only problem is that it doesnt works with all laptops, I had a HP pavillion and the clip didnt held in the screen it makes the camera useless they should provide some type of stand or base so if it doesnt attach to the screen you can still use it !!!If your laptop screen is compatible your lucky you have a very good product. It's very cheap the image is very good the snapshop function is awesome to take pictures to put in your msn messager !!The focus control is very good too !! I liked the camera a lot !!!Just try to see if it holds in your screen, till logitech start saying which laptops are compatible with the camera... My only hint is that if the edge of your screen is retangular it will hold most likely, My DELL is not completely retangular edge but it still holds perfectly !!BE AWARE WITH COMPATIBILITY !!!

3 days of tempermental tinkering with it to get it to work and I build computers for fun so I know it is not me being an idiot. Include that the software is a huge memeory hog that can only be uninstalled if you want it turned off. Then the Logitech Webcam software wants to nag you to update when the software is using versions of all the Instant Messengering services that has been update several times since their versions yet Logitech's site says I have the most reccent version of the software (mine is from 2003). Apparently Logitech has missed the advancements made recently.To cap the whole experience off badly the web help is simply a reprint of the exact instructions included in the box. Isn't that a online manual not help?Don't be a cheap-ass and buy this price leader. Cough up anything needed to get any web cam but this one. Web cams are not like mice where one is just about like the rest.As for actual performance when and if the thing will work for you check the focal distance carefully. I recently noticed that no matter what I do my face at six feet away is never quite as crisp looking as the house across the street in the background behind me. Should a web cam be more focused on the distant than in close range.Logitech has dropped considerably in my opinion after this 3-day nightmare because I wanted to save $20!

If You own an IBM T - Series NoteBook ( or any IBM NoteBook with the raised Edge from the Flat surface of the LCD Screen ), you can ignore this product because of the clip which is used to attach this Cam to the top of your IBM NoteBook Screen.The Clip will slip on the outer surface of your Laptop Screen and you'll end up with a camera pointing downwards onto your keyboard everytime.The other person who gave the review above : " Calijoe " must be using one of the Compact and slim IBM 10 - 12 inch LCD Notebooks;or he must be working for Logitech and is pulling a fast one on all of us.Buy at your own peril.Get the Logitech Fusion instead, although it's not really too portable, if you are a Road Warrior.And like A. Vezirian "stisev" has mentioned, download the QuickCam Software from the Logitech WebSite instead of using the one on the CD.Hope this was useful.

I've had this cam for about 5 years now, and though I've finally decided to upgrade to the Pro (sticking with Logitech), the original Quickcam Messenger is a wonderful camera for the price. And, surprisingly enough, is still working as well as it did the day I bought it (and paid $70 for it), with the exception of the missing stand that was chewed up by my puppy.The image is a little grainy, and adjusting the colors can be a pain, but overall this is a good little cam. Takes fairly good stills, as long as it's set to 320x240. The image quality for 640x480 resolution shots isn't the best, but you kind of expect that with such an inexpensive camera.It's compatible with just about any computer, and almost all programs. I was even able to open it up in Photoshop and take stills when I had gotten a new computer and hadn't installed the QuickCam software yet. Also works great with Yahoo & MSN messengers.Overall a great affordable cam that will last for years to come. If you're looking for an inexpensive cam to conference with others, or even just indulge your narcissistic side with pictures of yourself, this is a good choice. I'd recommend it to just about anyone.

I had not expected such a bad quality camera from Logitech. Its picture quality is very poor, extremely grainy and dark. I was very dissapointed, my 6 year old webcam does a much better job. I will not recommend it for even the first timers.

guys think twice before u buy this. quality is good. but i had a IBM think pad and the mount does not fit. the mount design is so stupid tat it is not elastic enough. this camera mount fits only on compaq, sony vaio, dell laptops.I have to change my laptop to fit this camera. stupid camera mount

I've owned and used probably 4 or 5 webcams over the years, and this one has been one of the worst. I bought it at Wal-Mart, because it was so cheap ($29?), and felt like I had nothing to loose in trying it. Well, it performs like a $29 webcam. The picture is pretty bad except under full sunlight. And no amount of tweeking with software controls can make a lower-light picture look decent. Grainy, bad contrast, and color-shifted.

I am not satisfied with this product at all. If I would have seen reviews before I bought I would not buy this. Picture quality is very poor. I would not suggest this product to anyone even it is for free after mail rebate.

The webcam works like i needed it to. The image is good, it can be manually focused (a little hard to do due to its small size), it clips on well to the notebook. The only downsides i see with it are:* no ability to rotate, so we are elimited in our selection of what we broadcast (can't span the room without moving the computer)* great zooming-in capabilities but it would be nice if it could zoom out a little more. Since we sit at a set distance from the laptop to reach keyboard, and since it is attached to the laptop, the camera typically shows our face. Can't really zoom out to show more.Other than these, the camera works great, it is nice and compact, and easy to set up.

I have Windows 98 ME and I like mine. I like to buy and test various products and don't understand why others are having problems. Perhaps their PC doesn't meet the minimum requirements for this product; and one shouldn't complain about all the software or the process one needs to go through to get started. I ran mine on Windows ME with an AMD Duron processor. You can't beat the price and a built in microphone. Bought a Powerbook with Tiger OS-X soon after purchase, and the camera, unfortunately, is not compatible. Apparently it works with some of the earlier Mac setups...I really liked how this camera was set-up with the 'now filming' indicator light, plus the face tracking feature was pretty cool as well; you could also adjust the camera settings to compensate for low light conditions.The only thing I didn't care for: the number of startup programs the software seemed to install on my system...I think it loaded up three and they ALL wanted to load immediately when Windows started up; slowed down my old PC quite a bit...There are probably ways around some of that stuff, but it was just one more reason for me to go buy a Macintosh and start to enjoy my computer and internet time again!

If you are looking for a camera just to be able to chat with friends, this camera isn't bad at all. It's not expensive or anything so you can't expect too much from it...It does it's job, although the lighting does have an orange color to it, but its not as bad as it sounds...and the installation is real easy to figure out. It's very simple, and it almost makes it not as good because it is so simple..Don't buy this camera expecting to take good pictures with it..If you are looking for a real good quality image, I wouldn't recommend this camera, though if you are just looking for something to be able to chat with friends its works just fine!

Very very good color and quality, the mic works fine, almost needs no additional light than the one emitted by the laptop screen. The face tracking function is kind of cool. I think that it as an overall excellent price/benefit relation. The only drawback is that it doesn't rotate horizontally, it only does vertically but that is not a big problem for me. I didn't give 5 stars to it just because I know there are better cameras out there but I don't think that they sale for this prize...

I have used this webcam for a while now with my laptop. Works great, very portable, comes with a nice pouch to store it in.Love the quality of the picture, and the fact that one can manually set the focus.

small, easy to install and works great. I just downloaded software from the Logitech site, pluged in web cam and hooked up to Yahoo. Next thing I knew I was live on screen. Contacted my daughter online she downloaded the Yahoo software and said I had a sunburn. She is in Canada and I am in Florida.Unit gets a little warm but it seems to be okay. Nicest thing is the unit follows your movement around so you are always in the field of view. To me it is worth the money.

This is a very good cam for notebooks. The images are clear and faster esp. when you use usb 2.0. You have to enable low light boosting if the lights in your room are not bring enough!Integrated mic comes very handy in keeping the computer less clumsy. Setup is easy if you install the logitech software as well. I had trouble setting up the drivers alone. I havent tried face tracking; my computer is not that fast. I'll update when I do that. (Face tracking is not mechanical, but based on software. just a selling point and not realistic).Read the fine print about the display sizes it fits, if you have a model with a thicker display, it wont fit!! May be the description should say it more clearly or logitech should make an adapter (which seems easy!).

I bought this webcam hoping for an overall improvement from their previous Quickcam for Notebooks Pro, but I was so disappointed I had to return it. Pro's in con's, in comparison to the previous model:Pro: Clips onto my lapto better than the previous model, which always fell backwards. Slight more compact, smaller carrying case.Cons: When using camera in super mode (i.e. full motion video), anything moving becomes very blury. Didn't have this problem with prior version (or with the Orbit). Users on the other end report heavily compressed or pixelated images. Could be a problem with the other users connection, but we never had this problem before with the older version webcam. The colors suck. Worse than the previous version. The camera gets pretty hot.Can anyone out there make a decent notebook webcam? I guess I am going to throw some darts and try another brand.

This webcam is really good. It is very small. Picture clarity is good and innovative face tracking mechanism works greatly. Just look at one factor before purchasing this item, make sure that your notebook's LCD thickness matches with the technical specifications given.

well i bought this webcam because my other webcam quite workingon me one day [enough said] i like it because of the pricewas a great deal the only thing i do not like about this webcamis how to take photo's with it when you do not have it connectedto the usb port on the computer. No flash button to use and no hole to look through for taking photo's with it unless i'm wrong am i? it comes with drivers and software to use. And i find that the software to use you have to change you screen resolution in order for it to even run whats up with that come on a program that uses1024 x 768 instead of 800 x 600 i don't understand that all if you need a descent webcam i would suggest using good judgement. What i mean is look around on the internet before disiding on what your gonna buy first check out the specs etc

Everything about this little camera I expected. It worked fine right out of the box and the software loaded without any problems. The image is good and the Logitech software fun to use. I do agree that the camera for some unknown reason does run hot. It doesn't seem to affect the performance, but it seems to heat up more than you would expect.

I have compared the two webcams side by side.. and Logitec wins hands-down..!!The additional feature of mic is really handy. I have not yet tweaked with face tracking provided with this webcam !!

Nice Packaged, Nice Looking Webcam, Clips Seem to work pretty well with Laptop/Notebook.I follow the the menu installed the software before I plug in the web cam. Guess what...after the software was install, it ask me to plug the web cam in...than nothing happen.I check the device manager, it was blank.software conflict with my laptop and made all USB port failI have to switch to safe mode and system restore.I try about 3 time, I give up and returned it to amazon.I never had problem with the Logitech Quick Cam 4000, what so ever.But This one don't seem to work with my Dell 6000. Not sure is the software that came with or the camera is bad.

I really like my webcam. The picture is very clear on MSN messenger and Yahoo. Furthermore, it works fine for me with only one light on in the room. My fiance has a much more expensive camera that is grainy with a brown-tint to the picture. In contrast to his camera, mine is clear.The clip: For me, the clip worked fine. I have a Toshiba Satellite. Also, having no desire to move the webcam all around, the short cord is sufficient.Overall, happy with my purchase. I have a logitech headset (note: Without the headset I did experience an echo when I talked) that I use with the camera.I like the camera, and am (thus far) not disappointed.Happy Shopping!

I love it. The software installed in my Sony VAIO with no problem and the camera provides a high quality video even at low level room light. Some of the accompanying software is annoying, but not a major drawback. I also have a Logitech on my desk top. These cameras have come a long way from the first Logitech I bought only a couple of years ago and ended up giving away because the software wrecked my computer! Unless you're Steven Spielberg, this will do the trick nicely.

I would say the image is fairly good. Also I like the functions like take pictures and take videos. However, the holder design is terrible. It has no way to put on a laptop like Dell or IBM. So I have to hold it by hand every time I use it. I hate to say it, but the designer must carzy. They seem never tried it on different laptops before they put it on market.

I like this camera. It's fairly easy to get it to stay on the laptops I've used it with (both HP), the software sets up quickly and effortlessly, the camera is small and lightweight, and the picture quality is really nice. I can't think of anything I don't like about it. I would give it a 5, but it's the only Webcam I've ever used so I don't have anything to compare it to.

There is something nasty about the driver for this camera. On 2 different machines, the driver for this camera creates faults at shutdown--something about not releasing control and being forced to quit by Windows XP. Install at your own peril. NOT recommended.

I wanted a small compact camera for sending video emails of our newborn overseas. The Logitech was hard to find - after going to three local electronics stores (all whose websites said the product was available) I could not find anyone in our town who had one. Amazon was about $15 cheaper anyway, even after shipping.The camera itself is nice and compact. Carrying case avoids it getting scratched and damaged. Video quality is good, even in low light although the low-light adjustment can make the picture a little washed out. Have had problems with static on the audio track - after having to pay a long distance call (no 1-800 number) to Logitech, found out that the speakers on the laptop are interfering with the mic. Have to mute the sound when recording. Kind of a pain if you forget and have to retake video, but an updated driver is supposed to come out soon.All in all, one of the better web cams I have ever purchased/used.

Our's works great!!! Yes we do have some degree of the hue in the different lightening; but this is not a $100.00 webcam either. we use ours for chatting with friends & family on MSN & Yahoo Messenger. to the individual who mentioned that he could not operate his webcam on AOL; because " CAMERA WAS USED IN ANOTHER APPLICATION " message; you cant use webcams in two different applications at the same time. say you want to cam in Yahoo & MSN Messenger at the same time. You can only cam in one; and I believe this applies to ALL webcams. Mine works best at night with a lamp on next to me. We purchased ours online in a non retail packaging which is called OEM. which probably stands for Original Equipment something or other; and found that to be the best buy. It has the manual, USB, camera, stand & Software CD. One note to all potental buyers of webcams etc. ALWAYS INSTALL THE SOFTWARE FIRST, or this could impair the fuction of the unit or your PC, This most likely happened to those who have complained about their webcams here in the reviews.

I recently purchased this tiny little webcam for my Dell latitude and its great. Easy to install, clips on to the top of the screen very easily (although I dont understand the little rubber thing that came with it...) and the pictures are very clear. I'm fairly tech savvy, but don't have the time to fiddle around with difficult installations and settings. This was perfect for me. Quick and painless...I am recommending this for my parents. It takes great little avi. flics too...fun!

i just bought this web cam at staples and it sucks. the picture quality is grainy and even with a 60 watt light shining on me from 4 feet away there's not enough light for a decent picture.I'm taking in right back to the store tomorrow. Don't pick up a cheap web cam just to try it out - other wise you'll end up doing the same as me and plan on spending $50 for something like Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000.Teach me to check customer ratings before I buy.

Even though it is a lap top camera, I just taped it onto my monitor and used it. It's great! I use it for MSN video and AIM video. Also, you can take pictures with it and record videos! The only bad part was that the USB cord was short (b/c its made for lap tops) but I just bought an USB extendor and it's all good!

the laptop camera is very small, which was a pleasant surprise. it is much smaller than it looks in the picture. the resolution is pretty good, although in low light the color leaves something to be desired. overall i am satisfied with my purchase and the camera is more than fine for the basic video conferencing that i use it for.

works as described, easy to install, though the installation does change some windows xp professional settings for music playback which i had set up for itunes...i wish it had a separate stand it could be put on when u want to change it from being clipped on your laptop....

The install was easy and took under 5 minutes. It's small, light weight and friends tell me the voice quality from built-in mic is perfect. The colour is a little blah but this one received the highest marks of all notebook webcam reviews.

I got this product through Amazon, Installation was very easy, and the image quality was just amazing, with its 1.3 meg camera resolution the quality of video is just out standing. I would recommend this product to all the notebook owners.

This is a new webcam. So it should work properly. Although the resolution is good. Excellent camera for amateurs. I cannot comment for it to be used on professional level.But overall nice buy at this price.

got the camera last week-end... installed fine on my desktop ( SONY VCG-RB34B P4 3Gz,1.5 gig RAM,WXP MCE) but I got shocked at how horrible the image quality is!!! Despite significant lighting, adjustment of the "manual focus", tweaking the preference for backlight and color compensation, etc... didn't improve the image. In addition, the streaming video is very choppy, with up to 2 second delay. Terrible product. Not worth a penny. Do not even get it even if they give it for free after rebate - not worth the stamps for your rebate!!!

That's basically all you need to know right there. This camera is 30 dollars under in most places, its durable, its easy to use, installation is a breeze, and there are no hidden programs that pop up when you install, nor any drivers required if you have Windows XP. Taking pictures, saving them, e-mailing pictures, talking on Yahoo! Messenger; they're all quick an easy to use. The manual is easy to read, easy to understand, and everything you need is in the box. The only thing that could make this better is a built in microphone, but most people want to have a better quality microphone anyways. 640x480 at 30 frames per second is pretty standard, and looks pretty good for what you're paying. Its true you could get a better one that has crisper resolution and 60 frames per second, but at a much higher cost. Logitech is known for their quality, and quality is what they provoide with the QuickCam Messenger WebCam. I've already recommended this to three of my friends, and all three have thanked me for it. For 30 bucks, you might as well give it a shot.
