This scanner is a great product when it works. However, it will randomly get into a mode where it will throw a double feed detection regardless of whether there is one or not. After talking with Canon support twice about this I was told that if you leave your PC on then over time less and less power is given to the USB ports and eventually this will occur. I actually have no idea if this is true but after being in the document scanning business for over 10 years I can tell you that I have never seen this with any other scanner including other Canon scanners. I personally think there is either a hardware or driver defect that Canon either hasn't figured out yet or doesn't want to admit to because there is no fix. So if you don't mind rebooting your computer when this happens then I would say go for this scanner because it works great other than that for the low budget scanner it is. But if you rarely reboot as many PC users do today then I would probably go for a higher end scanner in the $500 price range. This will get you a better production quality desktop scanner and problems like this will not exist.I would recommend the Fujitsu Scan Snap which is similar to this scanner from Cannon but it has no Twain drive. So if you only need to scan using the included software then no problem but if you think you might want to scan into another third party application at some point then chances are it will not work because that application will probably require the Twain driver. Bottom line for me is that there is no portable scanner currently on the market that measures up. Maybe the dream of a compact portable scanner will be realized some day but it hasn't happened yet. Thanks for reading and happy scanning!

I nervously upgraded from the DR-2080C (USB/SCSI Interface) to the DR C125. Nervously, because I expected it to be made in China and to have the same problems as the DR-2080C. Its made in Japan (means assembled in Japan from Japanese and foreign parts) AND solved all the annoying problems of the DR-2080C (e.g. constant multiple sheet feed errors).I use this in home and home office applications to back up documentation to Adobe PDF format. Though, happily, many organizations now post bills etc in PDF online, this is still my workhorse for unavailable PDF. My usage is light-medium compared to a muti-person office. 90% B&W 400 dpi, some color.I use the supplied software. If I need any real manipulation of the PDF output after the scan, I use Adobe Acrobat Pro. If you are in the paperless office mentality, Acrobat or an equivalent are a basic necessity. Some of the plastic parts and overall feel seem cheap and might break in the future. But that is what I thought of the DR-2080C and it has had no failures in 8 years. The "consumable" rollers on the older unit lasted the life of the machine. We will have to see how these rollers do.Agree with the positive reviews. I can now "set it and forget it" on large scans. For me there are currently no "cons".TIPS: A) You can now save your settings!! There are two places 1) User preferences Backup/Restore [under Advanced setting box]. Creates a ".dat" file 2) Tray>Icon>Environmental Settings>Basic Settings>Backup/Restore. Creates a ".cot" file. Not sure of the difference but I assume .cot saves everything.B) To scan long documents you go to Windows Start>Canon DR-C125>Canon ImageFormula Utility>Properties>Maintenance. Long documents trigger a paper jam message if not set.C) Also under the B location is the number of scans on the roller set.

The scanner appears to be OK, with a somewhat easy setup. I have owned a Canon 9550F for 5 years and thought it was a awesome scanner. I was thoroughly disappointed in the software that came with this scanner, it looks like a 9 year old child created it. I use my scanner for business and wanted a scanner that would print and copy easily....this scanner software will not even recognize my new printer, my old scanner Canon 9950F had no problems with this, and the software would allow you to select your printer. This software does not allow me to copy the image, paste the image or print the image. I have to close the scanner and open in photoshop in order to do simple functions, a big disappointment---and I expected more from Canon. I am running windows 8 64 bit, and did download the correct drivers and still no solution...this scanner maybe great for photos, but if you are looking for quick and efficient duplication of documents, don't waste your money.

This is a solidly-made, high-quality scanner. Despite it's relatively small size, it weighs 2 pounds 5.4 ounces with cables. This makes the Canon imageFORMULA P0150 not-so-light to pack with you during travels. However, this scanner redeems itself with its excellent performance, great software bundle and its file output options. For fastest performance you'll need to connect two USB cables between this scanner and your computer or buy an AC adapter (not included). Using both cables this scanner will scan both sides of a color document at 300 dpi in about three or four seconds. If you're scanning multiple pages (the document feeder will hold about 20 pages) the Canon software is smart enough to skip the blank ones. When using Canon's included scan software you can save the results in a jpeg, tiff, BMP or PDF file. PaperPort 11 is part of the software bundle giving you OCR capabilities and the ability to export documents into Word, WordPerfect and other popular editing programs. This scanner's TWAIN driver enables you to scan directly into applications such as Acrobat, Photoshop, Photo-Paint and Picasa. This scanner actually scans both sides of the document at the same time instead of flipping and re-scanning pages as some other duplex scanners do. Not only is this much faster, it greatly reduces the chances of a paper jam. In my opinion, the real test of a scanner is its output quality and that's where the Canon imageFORMULA P-150 really shines. I've scanned just about every document imaginable including screened color, black and white documents and color photos. The output quality of this scanner is as good or better than any I've used or owned. When documents are dusty, they can pull dust into the document feeder and affect the scanner's output quality, but it's simple enough to open the scanner and use a soft cloth to clean the scanning windows to eliminate streaks. A clean scanner, no matter whose design, will always yield better results. I have owned this scanner for about a year and give it regular workouts. It is clearly built to last. The scanner's page separator, for example, is rated for 10,000 pages before Canon recommends its replacement. Other moving parts are replaceable by the end user if this scanner becomes worn from heavy use. This scanner does have limitations compared with other scanners in this price range. It has no flat platen for scanning books or other rigid documents and it cannot scan photographic film or color transparencies. However its ability to automatically feed and scan loose document pages into high-quality digital output is impressive, especially when you consider its small size, portability and how little desktop space it consumes. Highly recommended.

I always dread the software that comes with consumer appliances, but the software with this unit isn't bad. You can configure the one touch button to direct scans wherever you want them (a folder, email, an application, etc), and it integrates really well with Evernote which was a critical requirement for me.The unit itself takes little space when folded up, but is very efficient when deployed. Some potential areas for improvement: It would be nice if the rollers somehow kept documents straight when feeding them without bothering to set the paper guides. When I need to scan the odd receipt it doesn't always feed straight unless I reset the guides which is a minor inconvenience. That said, the software does a very good job of straightening things out automatically 95% of the time. Another minor nitpick is that it doesn't handle really long documents - I end up having to cut the pages in half before scanning them (by really long I mean longer than legal-length paper - like some of those fold-out contracts or agreements I sometimes get from credit card companies and the like). Ideally the thing should just accept an arbitrarily long document as long as it fits width-wise. But, this doesn't really happen often and the fact that I can document-feed double-sided in such a cheap scanner makes this impossible to pass up.

OVERVIEW: I have been using the product for only two weeks, but have scanned over a thousand pages. I bought this unit primarily to scan large documents (i.e. notes from grad school classes, manuals, etc.), and so the duplex mode and ability to put a stack of papers in at a time were critical. It handles both of those well.CONCERNS: some of the images show notable skew/slant, even when fed straight. At first I was not so careful about the pages being fed straight, and it was notably sloppy (whether scanning a few pages at once or 20). When I became more careful, it helped, though I notice that papers which were stapled together at one point, then the staple removed, and then fed through the scanner are at higher risk for skew (even when "fanning" the pages prior). The other knock on this scanner is that I am not remotely satisfied with the quality of 600 dpi color scanning (the highest resolution available) for photos, and it had trouble feeding a photo and left a mark on it. If you are interested in regularly scanning photos, I do NOT recommend this product. (I am open to advice if folks have faced these same challenges and found ways around them.)That said, it is:-fast-easy to scan and save-small/compact-reasonably priced-capable of handling long documents (i.e. 300 pages) quite easily-works well on Mac with software (though there is allegedly a P-150M that has built-in Mac drivers)Advice if you buy it:-take care to feed your papers well and use the guides-the 300 dpi black and white resolution works very well for creating compact files of typeface docs (and is easier to read and uses much less memory than gray-scale)-Apple's "Preview" software is a free way to edit pdf's (i.e. deleting/re-ordering pages)! No need for Adobe's full version.

previously I had used a panasonic (i think) sheet feed scanner, but the software hung so often i moved it into the dust bin, and switched to using a flat bed scanner. this blows them all away.Installation: installation is a snap. The only thing is that if, like me, you don't like reading manuals, make sure you open up the front cover and remove the packing tape and orange tab on the inside.Software: Installed on a Mac. Was very easy to setup. Pop in the disk, click, and off you go. It adds a simple quick toolbar item if you prefer over the button on the scanner.Scanning: Blazingly fast. This is so dramatically faster than either the previous sheet feed scanner or the flat bed that they don't even deserve to be in the same category. We put in four pages and it flew through them. It flew through them so quickly i thought it was just a preview scan...Duplex scanning: works perfectly. If it over guesses and scans the backside of thin paper, you can easily delete those scans prior to savingColor detection: spot onImage clarity: beautifulIn short, within a few minutes we had gorgeous scans operating. We can now go through reams of contracts, bills, and everything else and archive them.My only complaint is that we didn't buy one sooner...

I bought this scanner because someone else had recommended it. The scanner arrived when Amazon said it would arrive. I immediately unpacked it, installed the software, and tried scanning some negatives. Excellent results! I then tried some old 35mm slides and it worked equally well. I have more than paid for the scanner by the amount of pictures that I have scanned from the many negatives that I had managed to amass. If you scan several pictures at once, the software does not treat them as one giant picture, instead it makes them into individual pictures. My only concern is that I feel that the film carrier is or could be a bit flimsy, but with care it should last for as long as you own the scanner. Also, the LED lighting makes for an almost instant on scanner. I just can't say enough good things, I am so glad that I bought it.

I just purchased this scanner after comparing it with others (Epson for one). Over the last 3 days I've scanned over 300 slides from in the 1960s/70s (there are several hundred more to be done).Using the scanner driver in the advanced mode, there is a variety of setting choices, including compensation for fading and dust. It scans 4 slides at a time. The initial scan allows you to preview the slides and choose which ones you want in the final scan. After that scan, you have the option of cropping the pictures before saving. You can also choose to save one in the original size and one cropped. The preview scan is fast; the final scan takes a bit longer as each slide is scanned individually. The quality has been consistently very good, But one does have be alert. Once I rescanned a slide that I was not pleased with, and it came out better the 2nd time. So I'm keeping my eye out for that possibility as I go. I will revise this review if I notice it, or anything else, happening consistently. I am very pleased with this scanner so far. It's been a step into the forgotten past for me.

I'm using this to scan thousands of 35 mm slides that I have from the 80s and 90s, and it works great whether using the automatic mode or doing things with the various selectable modes. The menu system takes a little getting used to, but after experimenting around I've figured things out. Too bad the manual writers apparently never really use these in the real world because if they did the instructions would be much clearer and easier to follow. I've been scanning the slides at 4800 DPI, and it generally takes about one minute each for a kodachrome 35mm slide. The results are excellent and I use a Polaroid Dust and Scratch Removal software (free on the internet and works with Win 8 and others) to clean the scanned images up if necessary. This scanner is well worth the money in my short experience with it.

First of all, I also have a Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for PC, and I will be comparing this Canon with my experience with the Fujitsu. Both scanners have a nice small footprint and can scan a variety of paper sizes (although not large), including business cards. Both scanners do a very fast job at scanning the documents (duplex, in one pass - woohoo!).What does separate these scanners from each other is the software. The Fujitsu comes with its own snapscan software coupled with Adobe Acrobat (standard version). This allows for a pretty standard setup with a large range of compatibility and support. The Canon comes with a 3rd party suite of software from Nuance. The pdf pro software is good and also has a wide range of options, maybe even more than the Adobe software. However, the Fujitsu snapscan software is just more user friendly and seems much easier to use. I have an easier time getting documents into and organized with the SnapScan software than I did with Canon's software. Again not a severe difference, but a little easier for sure ....Overall, both scanners are very, very capable, but the software really seems to be the defining difference. Either of these scanners can do a great job of digitizing your life, and do it with accurate OCR software at incredible speeds. Both scanners can handle roughly the same capacity and page sizes. I have not "raced" them both side by side, but both scan at incredible speeds and create great looking images.Again, the main difference is the software that comes with it. Both are very capable, but the SnapScan just seems a little easier to use, with a little more polished integration.Bottom line: if you can get both at the same price, I might go with the Fujitsu, but if you can get the Canon at 50 bucks or more off, go that route. Either way, you will have a very good scanner to help you digitize your life and toss your file cabinets. Not to mention the ease of sharing documents with others and being able to find documents with a simple text search. Once you have the experience of finding a document that you need that way - you will never want to go back. These scanners are simply awesome and the Canon delivers alongside the Fujitsu.** One of the comments listed on this review pointed out a very good issue: Unlike the Fujitsu, (which has a scanner and software made separately for mac and pc) the Canon has software that can work with PC and MAC at the same time. So if you have a "mixed" environment, then the Canon may win on this fact. That is a huge bonus .... Thanks!

I purchased this scanner to digitize a variety of business and personal papers, and I've been using it heavily for a few weeks. This is my first scanner. It's meeting my needs and I'm generally happy with how the project has gone. I think I'd buy the same scanner again. However, things aren't as smooth as I hoped when I bought it.Pros:* The scanner seems fast, especially in the 200-300 dpi range.* I'm happy with the quality of the scans. Much of what I'm scanning is old and worn and includes detailed images. The scans are clear and easily readable for me.* The form factor is brilliant; it's easy to store.* Works with a variety of software courtesy of TWAIN compatibility.Cons:* The bundled PaperPort software is just terrible. I've uninstalled it and explored options to replace it (more on this below). Whatever I choose, I'll be spending extra money to replace the inadequate bundled program.* The scanner double-feeds papers way too often, especially with older papers. In practice this means I have to babysit it while scanning.* I haven't been able to get the one-touch scanner button to work under Windows 7 (64 bit). This is minor for me.On the software: My goal is to convert huge piles of disorganized paper information into a file system I can carry with me and search on any computer. My file formats include PDF (what I'm scanning plus some already in digital format), Office and text documents.I have not found a graceful solution. Scanned files are easy to turn into "searchable PDFs" with programs like Acrobat Standard or Pro, FileCenter or Evernote (but not the bundled PaperPort!). However, Windows can't search within searchable PDFs, and applications that can are either not easily portable (FileCenter) or won't search Office files (Acrobat and Evernote).Additional considerations:Scanning from Acrobat produces fuzzy PDFs. I've played with Acrobat's scan settings and tried several options including the program's ClearScan; but the files look better when scanned from Canon's CaptureOnTouch or from FileCenter.FileCenter's export to RTF or Word is awkward because it loses most formatting, and it also loses its place in the directory system every time. This requires clicking all the way back through the file system to save the converted file where I am.Evernote limits both total data uploaded each month and maximum file size; and I have concerns about putting my stuff in the cloud. So my options are:1) FileCenter: Scan from FileCenter and save "shadow" RTFs (clicking through multiple directories each time and accepting the loss of formatting), so I can search with Windows.2) Acrobat: Scan from the Canon software to avoid fuzziness. Acrobat can either save text as RTF in "shadow" files OR produce searchable PDFs. If I go with searchable PDFs then I need to use Acrobat to convert my Word files into PDFs so I can search with Acrobat Reader wherever I go.3) Scan from Evernote and use Evernote to convert all my Word files to PDFs so I can do Evernote searches; or4) Run two searches every time I need to search the files (not acceptable). The upshot is that I'm frustrated with the state of the available software. However, I don't know of another scanner that solves these problems better, and this is a great little scanner for home and occasional use. If I had the decision to do over, I'd buy it again.

Okay so I use scanners all the time because I am tired of having paper pile up on my desk. I've been using the flatbed that came with my HP Deskjet F4200 (which is a fantastic little printer by the way) and the although the scanner works fine, it is not duplex and does not have a feeder and is slow. But the quality is fine. It does work great for things you can't feed into the P150 such as credit cards, licenses, wrinkled/damaged documents etc.So here is where the P150 shines and you will need sunglasses.1. It does receipts seamlessly. The feeder narrows down for even the tiniest gas receipts.2. It is quick. The paper just runs through without even the slightest of noises or whirring sounds.3. It makes beautiful scans and very rarely requires adjustments to the settings.4. OCR is performed automatically. (doesn't get everything but you can run OCR again with other software such as Acrobat pro etc)5. The scan software is simple, intuitive, fast and just plain excellent.6. You don't have to click on any software to scan. Just stick the paper in and hit the button and voila, it scans. Then just save and your ready for the next one.7. I haven't had a jam yet. Seriously. Make sure you install in the included page separator component as it appears some other negative reviewers failed to do so.8. The thing is tiny, but solid and just very cool. Dust on black is no big deal as some reviewers complain. The thing closes up and is completely protected. The gloss black is fine and quite nice actually. Take care of it, and get a HEPA air filter or something. Give me a break.9. It doesn't need a power cable! Just plug into standard USB and you are in business. It apparently will go faster with the included 2nd USB power cable but it's already WAY faster than my flatbed. I suppose if you were douing a huge stack of paper you would, but I don't want it to go any faster with the creases and folds in my documents...I'd rather see it go at a nice medium pace.10. Yes, I tried the NeatReceipts product and save your self. It is a total waste and a real piece of inferior equipment plus it is proprietary and the software is absolutely horrifying.11. Even if the receipt doesn't feed straight, the software fixes it. What a time saver!!!12. This is a biggie. It is DUPLEX meaning it scans both sides of documents and if a side is blank it is smart enough to ignore it.13. I haven't had any problem with Skewing as some have mentioned. Sounds like those people need to get Adobe Acrobat and hit "Optimize". That automatically fixes the document if it fed slightly off. Come on people, this is a SCANNER not a printing press what goes in, is what comes out.And last but definitely not least, this one is TWAIN COMPLIANT, unlike the similarly featured and pricey, Fujitsu Scan Snap!!! (the Fujitsu Scansnap, has to use it's own special proprietary software to get the scans. And you can't use other software. The Canon P-150 ImageFORMULA however, works with all standard scan software products that have the ability to acquire scans which is most of them these days, such as most image editing software, MS-Word, Adobe Acrobat, and the list goes on)Hip Hip Hooray for CANON!-Abe M. I haven't tried out all of the features, but I am happy so far. I like how the lid holds itself open at 45 degrees. My old printer took both hands to change sheets. I first saw this in Fry's and saw how they rated the speed of the Canon scanners right on the box. The 9000F's scan cycle is just 7 seconds compared to the next cheaper model at 12 seconds. For about $70 more I could have gotten it down to 5 seconds. The price at Fry's for the 9000F was $180 on the shelf. I saved $26 by purchasing it from Amazon.com for $154. The first scanned images were faint until I learned how to change the contrast settings. I still need to try scanning some negatives and slides.

This scanner is probably a great scanner. I say that because, after several days of fooling with it, I STILL cannot get the "one-touch buttons" on it to work. I spent a half-hour with a Canon phone Rep that was one of the biggest jerks I've dealt with on a support question in my entire life. It's obvious Canon doesn't give a rip about their phone support quality, as I never got a survey on the incident.I really believe this scanner COULD be the best one available, especially for the money, except for LOUSY support. I'm going to load the software and see if it's simply a glitch in my near-new laptop, but this shouldn't be Rocket Science...

I do a LOT of research before I buy ANYTHING! It pays off when the items are still up and running years and years later. This little machine is great! It stores in a cabinet on my computer desk. Out of sight, out of the way. Beautiful. I have used it to scan just about anything paper-based. It works quickly and quietly. The lack of an output tray is simply handled by placing it to face the length of the desk. That way, it leaves a nice little pile of scanned documents on the desk. Who needs an output tray? The other quirk was one I had seen mentioned in reviews - the taking of multiple sheets through the sheet feed when trying to scan them. I found the simple solution - wrinkle the tops of the pages just a little. This done, the sheet feeding problem is totally solved. It just doesn't like flat, slick, and 'new' pages. Me neither. Worth the money. Worth the quirks. I would buy it again!

I Have used this scanner for 2 weeks and have scanned about 400 slides from the 50`s. It has done a creditable job since a lot of the slides are a long way from perfect. I have had to use the auto correct on a number of them and it truely helped. The regular scan process does them pretty quick but the auto correct takes about 5 minutes for 4 slides. I am totally satisfied so far with this scanner and would recomend it to anyone wanting to transfer slides and photos to JPG files. I`m sure text docs will work fine too.

Like many other people I got sick of having so much paperwork in the office. My ultimate goal is to get rid of my file cabinet or at the very least keep it down to a single draw in a desk. I'm in a sales job and often need to keep track of discussions or concepts that I show to customers. This scanner has allowed me to keep most of my files stores electronically. My company uses a cloud based sales management/CRM application so I simply scan everything using the P150 and attach it as pdfs to their records. This scanner is perfect as it is relatively small and compact which makes it easy for me to transport it from the office to home and back when I need to as it fits neatly in my laptop bag or in the bottom of my briefcase. If you are road warrior this would be the perfect tool. One neat feature is the ability to scan both sides of a document at once. I noticed a couple of reviews where people complained that they often only wanted one side of a document and were forced to manually delete the back side of a pdf via Acrobat or something similar. This is really not an issue as you can easily change a setting in the management software to scan single sided as opposed to duplex. I have also read a few complaints about documents skewing. I have found that this can occur but usually not if you make use of the paper guides that flip up from the unit. The scanner also has a function built into it that helps to detect this problem and will try to automatically rectify it for you.I bought the additional power source but to be honest I hardly ever use it and 99% of the time I simply plug it into my laptop via the USB cable and find that the speed of scanning is perfectly acceptable for everyday use. After nearly 12 months of use I am still extremely impressed with this scanner. My wife likes it so much that she has suggested that I buy another one that we can use exclusively at home. If you are looking for a compact scanner for home and/or small office use I would highly recommend this one.

Плохо

I read all the reviews and bought the scanner. If you need a low volume OCR scanner you can't beat this (so far). However, once you start feeding it more than 3 pages it chokes.I've cleaned the rollers with alcohol/qtip even though it has less than 200 pages through it.When I try to scan more than 3 or 4 pages it sucks 2-5 pages in at one time.On the upside I'm going to be able to convert 10 years of bills to OCR PDF tonight with one touch (per stack). I'm finally getting around to it.On the downside it's going to take me about 5 to 10 times longer than I expected to feed individual pages into this scanner. At most I can get 2 to 5 pages to run though it at one time.Based on price, workload and capabilities, 3 stars. For the price it does a decent job. If it scanned more pages it would be a definite 5 star scanner package.Don't get tricked into buying the OCR software though. The bundled one touch does it already. If you truly need the extra Paperport features, you need a different scanner.

Великолепно

I use it to digitize the old and mostly wornout 35mm black/white negatives (60+ rolls, finished) and color films (100+ rolls, on going).Pro:- Easy to setup and easy to use.- It's quiet.- At 4800dpi for my old black/white negatives, the result JPG is excellent. The level of details is amazing to my eyes. For the price, it's even more amazing! I previously tried one little negative digitizer sold in Costco, the result is ridiculously bad. The difference here is day and night. This one is for real.Minor Con:- Pretty slow at 4800dpi, more than 1 minute per frame.- Doesn't detect over/under exposed negative frames well. I couldn't find a manual option to force scan a frame at a fixed location. But for the adequately processed negatives, it works like a charm.- The color is quite a bit off when scanning color films, even though that can be corrected afterwards.Neutral:The negative loader is of decent quality, but not sure it will last. Hope I can find replacements if they break.Bottom line:An affordable high quality scanner for regular use.I hope this thing last at least till my job is done. This is a whole lot cheaper than asking some one else to do it for you. I am not even sure if the photo shops would take those old beat up negatives even if I am willing to pay for it,,,
