This portable scanner is small, light and quickly sets up. Just plug in a USB cable and it is recognized. The cover flips open to hold multiple page and scans each quickly. Set up allows it to scan both sides of a printed page but does not scan a blank sheet. Scans in color and shows you each scan on screen so you see your copy. Easy to save PDF into a file and repeat the next sequence of scans. This beats hands down my desk scanner combo machine in the office; much faster, easier, simpler to use. I may just use it in the office as well.

I've used this scanner for PDF, color pictures, black and white negatives (from the 1930s), and color slides. Everything turned out great! The editing program on the scanner let me brighten and fix the contrast on the old black and white pictures till they're perfect. Virtually no warm-up time either; click what you want to do and it's done, just like that! It also came with discs for Photoshop Elements for Windows and Mac; a nice bonus!

I bought this scanner for light-duty scanning of letter size sheets and have been highly impressed by it. It looks miniscule but folds out to a fairly impressive size. With just a USB cord plugged in, it'll do 15 b/w pages a minute, and although I haven't tested it, it's supposed to be faster when using the included USB power cord. It does great scans and comes with a TWAIN and ISIS driver disk to enable 3rd party application scanning with the unit. My only complaint is that the Canon driver and software disk comes in DVD format, though it only has about 600mb on it. For older machines without DVD drives, this was a poor decision on Canon's part and one that is not borne out by the amount of data included on the disk. Otherwise, I wholeheartedly recommend this scanner and intend to buy at least two more soon.

I got this to scan my receipts and statements. I had flat bed Canon Lide 500 and this little scanner beat it by a wide margin. At 200 dpi it could scan 20 pages duplex while my flatbed scanner is still working on the first side of the first page. The built in storage that allows it run the scanning software without installing on the host computer is especially convenient. The unit does have a small consumable separation pad, which might need replacement.Definitely a recommended buy if you have a need to digitize your documents.

I bought this scanner thinking that it was compatible with Windows Vista. Unless you go to the technical details section for this scanner in Amazon.com, there is nothing that says this won't work with Vista.Once I received the scanner and opened the box, I found a sheet of paper that instructed Vista users to go to[...]I did that, but the Lide 25 scanner wasn't one of the ones listed! Now that's just dumb on Canon's part. So then I searched Canon's website for Vista compatibility for this scanner, and after awhile I found the Vista drivers and software for this specific scanner, and started downloading the ones shown. Beware though--even though you have to specify the scanner model and OS in dropdown menus, they include OS/X software in the list, and it's not made apparent until you click on them which ones you're about to download. So I downloaded the correct drivers and software in the list and installed them, but there were two other Vista-compatible software programs I still needed, ScanSoft OmniPage SE OCR and ArcSoft PhotoStudio. So I went to the ScanSoft website and downloaded a Vista-compatible version, but when I checked ArcSoft's website, I couldn't find a way to download PhotoStudio without paying $80, $30 more than I did for my scanner! Checking the Canon website again, it said that PhotoStudio wasn't compatible with Vista, so I was out of luck, since I primarily intended to use the scanner for photos. There remains only one thing to do--get an RMA and send this hunk of junk back to Amazon.com. While it may have been my fault that I didn't read the technical details to find out which versions of Windows this scanner was and was not compatible with, everywhere else it says that it is compatible with Windows. Well, Vista IS windows, and it's been out for nearly two years as of 10/08.Update: I've since replaced the Lide 25 scanner with a Canon CanoScan 8800, and I couldn't be more pleased. It works great with Vista, and comes standard with both OCR software and Adobe Photoshop Elements 5. The scanner also has a lighted top cover to better scan negatives and slides, & includes three different negative/slide holders. It was worth buying it to get Photoshop Elements 5 alone. Forget the Lide 25--go with the CanoScan 8800 and you won't regret it.

I bought this scanner to scan family photos. It got the job done, but as others have mentioned the scanning speed is very slow and noisey.I didn't have any problems hooking up the scanner or installing the software.I scanned about 40 photos, most all at 600 DPI. (The higher the DPI the higher the quality, but also the longer it takes to scan.) I found that it was essential to preview each scan (to adjust the scan area, do any tweaking, etc.), which really added to the scan time.If I were to have more photos to scan than I did, I would look for something faster. But for what I needed and for the price, this is a great scanner.I did have some trouble scanning documents in that many were illegible when scanned. But I didn't bother to look at the documentation for info or tips.I only used the scan feature. However, the scanner I purchased also has a copy and fax feature.

When it works it works fine. But after a few scans the thing tries to calibrate itself and usually fails, telling you to follow the instructions in the manual. I couldn't find these alleged instructions anywhere in the manual or Canon's nearly useless website. Sometimes trying to scan again will eventually work, sometimes not. I had to scan a bunch of old pictures for a surprise party but this thing decided to quit on me halfway through the job. Best of luck to Canon if this is the junk they sell.

So far, I'm pretty pleased with this CanoScan LiDE 600F scanner. After my old Epson 1200U scanner died, I started researching scanners again. I was somewhat depressed when I noticed that most of scanners sold these days are huge. Luckily, this scanner counters that trend. It's got a nice, small footprint and, best of all, doesn't need a separate power connection. Plus, Canon's web site has Vista drivers (as of this writing, version 12.1.2, released June 2007). Since I'm using my own applications instead of what comes with the scanner, all I had to do was download those drivers, install them, then plug the scanner into a USB port. Everything works fine (not the buttons, I haven't set those up yet). Some observations: - I don't know why, maybe the scanner does some kind of automatic processing on the scans, but the scans I'm getting seem crisper and clearer (at the same resolution/color settings) than did those from my Epson. - The driver is very good at finding the area I want scanned and automatically cropping it. I haven't had to adjust the crop area yet. With the Epson, I always had to adjust it. - The speed is pretty much a draw. The physical scan (movement of the scanning bar up and down the platen) takes slighly more time than the Epson, but the transfer of control and data back to my calling program is faster. - The sound isn't loud, but it has a rougher tone to it than the Epson. - The only real negative I can find directly attributed to the scanner is the magnetic "latch" on the cover. In theory, it seems like a good way to keep the cover closed (especially when the scanner is in its space-saving, upright mode). But, in practice, the magnets just make it hard to open the lid. If there were more of a lip available for grabbing the lid, it might not be as bothersome. But, as is, I wish I could remove those magnets.I do have one other problem with the scanner. But, I'm not sure if it's caused by my scanning software (Acrobat 7.0.9) or by the driver. Every time I tell Acrobat to go to the scanner and get a document, the scanner defaults back to Black & White mode. No matter what I do, I can't get it to stick across sessions in Grayscale mode. I'm going to have to try installing Canon's Vista Toolbox software and set up the buttons. Maybe I'll be able to do Grayscale scans from one of them. But, I'd much prefer working from within my application and calling the scanner instead of working within the scanner and calling the application.Ignoring the difficulty I'm having with default settings (since that could be my fault), I rate this scanner at a Very Good four stars out of five. If I could get rid of those lid magnets, it would probably be very close to a five star scanner.

I've used the CanoScan 8600F scanner for two weeks now scanning about 300 color photos, size 4" x 6". It works great with my 3 year old Dell PC running Windows XP with only 512 MB of RAM.I started off scanning negative film of my photos but noticed that even after careful cleaning of each 6 image strip that, more often than not, I'd see specks or fuzz on the scanned image which took a bit of time to correct using the included Adobe PhotoShop Elements 4.0 software (the dust/scratch removal software too often takes off image details that you will want to keep). I decided to try scanning my 4" x 6" prints instead of the negatives and got better results. I couldn't tell much difference in the resolution AS VIEWED ON MY 1280 x 1024 LCD monitor. I don't usually make prints so I couldn't say how the quality for scanning prints vs. negatives would compare in that department. The good thing was that scanning prints almost always gave me a cleaner image than scanning negatives. And prints scan faster than negatives. You wouldn't think you could scan prints faster than negatives since you can load two 6 image strips (12 images total) into the holder that comes with the unit vs. being able to place only 4 of the 4" x 6" prints on the platten. What happens is that the unit scans negatives ONE IMAGE AT A TIME vs. scanning the prints all in one pass. It takes the scanner about 1 minute per image when scanning negatives. It also takes only about 1 minute to scan 3 or 4 prints so the result is a faster operation when scanning prints than when scanning negatives. One drawback of the software for me was that I found I could scan only 3 size 4" x 6" prints at a time if I wanted to use the "auto-crop" feature. Putting 4 images on the platten resulted in them being too close together for the software to detect them as individual prints. Yes, I could crop them in Adobe Elements but that added more problems with not having specific EXIF information for each image. Bottom line: I scanned 3 prints, size 4" x 6", at a time and was very happy with the speed and quality. The scanner processed faster than I could load/unload the images (I was pulling them out of a protector sheet-style photo album for scanning).I've had no trouble with the unit or the software but I can tell you there is a somewhat steep learning curve if you intend on scanning a lot of images. Figuring out how to customize the lid-mounted buttons/screen-based toolbar (they are duplicates of one another) is essential for faster operation.None of the included software allow you to do any significant EXIF editing. You'll need a different software package for that function. Yes, you can plug-in date of original and a few other items but it is a one image at a time operation and is very time consuming. Get a shareware program like EXIF Utilities to do this on a batch basis.I'd buy this same unit again if faced with the same decision. It is a good value for what I paid at Amazon.com and it came quickly plus was well-packaged.jNote also this unit has a one year warranty vs. the 90 day warranty for the error-prone HP models of equivalent specification.

I originally bought this product because it was small, thinner than my laptop, and portable. It also had a resonable price as well. What I did not expect was the clarity it scanned my images. I use it for original artwork, putting my drawings online. It works amazingly. I can capture any type of medium without worrying that it will blur or the color won't show up.The only trouble I had with it is the size. It is dimensionally smaller than my sketchbook. Which isn't that big of a problem to me, I can scale down my art. However, some of my older drawings won't fit onto the screen.I highly recommend this scanner to anyone who wants something small and easily stored. It's easy to operate, the software is easy to install. If you want to scan larger pages, however, you may be better investing in something a little bigger.

I am a graphic designer who works from home occasionally. My old Epson all-in-one printers kept drying up and I decided to switch to just the scanner. I don't need it for hi-res, color perfect work, just an occasional scan of my sketches or reference material. All this can be done perfectly on this extremely compact and elegant little scanner. Let me remind you, it has only one cable! It's a USB cable that you plug into your computer, load the driver (I don't need the rest of color software as I am using Photoshop) and it's ready. So far I've used for about a month and, as expected, it works as promised. The only comment I'd like to make is the noise it makes while scanning. It's not deafening, just surprisingly audible for something this small and light.I am using it connected to my Mac running OS 10.5. Enjoy it!

I bought this scanner last summer to convert my photo albums and slides to digital images. It's fast, accurate, and so easy to use. I really was impressed with the ability to scan multiple photos each time, and the software would separate them into individual images. My other scanners wouldn't do that. I also didn't have to fiddle with the settings to scan postcards. Scanning negatives was easy, and the software converted them to positive images, automatically. There were some things that didn't scan properly the first time, and a few things that just didn't scan well, so it's not the totally magic scanner. The slide and negative scanning accessories are average in my opinion, and having to remove the top cover is a little inconvenient. For my purposes, which were to convert a lot of old photos, slides, documents, postcards, and mementoes to digital images, I was quite pleased with the unit, and the software. It was money well spent. I have a multi-function center, that I was using to scan some things, but it didn't have the capacity, flexibility, and accuracy to do what I wanted. It still took my whole vacation to do the scanning, but that's a function of the great adventures that our family experienced, and the abundance of documentation.

I purchased this scanner because I needed something lightweight to travel with. The most important deciding factor was that I own two Canon desktop printers that were both inexpensive, reliable, ink replacements are reasonably priced, and have surpassed print quality expected for the price.Other reviews note that this scanner feels flimsy, which I was concerned about, but in having used it over a period of about 12 hours to scan hundreds and hundreds of family historical data while on the road, I can say with complete certainty that, for the price, it is of acceptable quality and performs fine. I only scan photos and paper documents and it has been a great performer. The quality of scans is good, it creates multi-page PDFs, though each page must be scanned individually, and the speed isn't as terrible as some larger office-environment scanners I've used in the past. Granted, a document feeder would have been ideal, but that would drastically increase the price and decrease the ease of traveling with it.In my opinion, this scanner has been well worth the purchase price, very user friendly to operate, fantastic in that there is no power cord to contend with, the space-saver upright position is a nice feature, the quality of output is good, and it fits very nicely into my existing computer bag with the laptop and all other accessories.

Especially in light of its low price ($49.99 with free (and prompt!) shipping), this product is an excellent piece of equipment and a fantastic buy, especially since my first scanner, which occupied half my desk space, cost just over $200.00! I've read negative reviews about its noise (scarcely more than a whisper), its slowness (so far I've never had more than a minute taken up, and, at age 80, I have the patience to deal with that), and scan quality (the first scan I did was to copy and print out our 2 passports, and it captured every detail accurately), all I can say is picky, picky, picky! I've set mine to import directly to Graphic Converter (The poor man's PhotoShop for the Mac, at $35.00!), which enables me to adjust sharpness, brightness, contrast, color balance, and color saturation in seconds, I'm delighted with the gadget. Perhaps the critics need to take the time to experiment with the ample contols available.

For years I had been using an HP flatbed that also scanned slides and negatives (but not very easily). It finally broke which gave me the excuse to purchase a new one. I had intended to purchase an Epson, but after reading the reviews decided to get the Canon 8600. I am so glad I did!!! The best feature to me is being able to scan multiple photos, slides, or negatives. I have many of each and the ability to scan more than one at a time is great. For multiple photos, you just have to leave a bit of space (3 cm is recommended) between each photos and the edge of the glass. I aquired the images directly into Photoshop bypassing Canon's image editing program. AND, each photo came in as a separate file - no cropping needed! It took a few scans to get the photo orientation and order of scanning figured out, but it was painless.Slides were also a breeze. You have to remove a cover (easy) and place the slides in a provided attachment. Place the attachment in the slot and connect a cable from the lid to the body of the scanner and you are ready. I did use the Canon image editing with the slides and found it to be better than what I would normally expect to be bundled with a scanner. With the multiple image scan selected, the software automatically separates each slides into a separate file as it did with the photos.Negatives were a bit trickier. The negative attachment tray has room to insert two 35mm filmstrips of 6 negatives each. If you do not fill up all the entire slot, you have to put a piece of black paper over the remaining slot. My only complaint is that I wish Canon had provided a contraption. Since it did not, I had to find some black construction paper and cut two strips to fit in the slots. Not hard, but a hassle. So if you are going to do negatives, have the black paper ready when the scanner arrives. Again, each negative is scanned seperately so naming each file is a snap. The sctual scan can take a couple minutes if you have several negatives, but time is not a issue with me. There is also a 120 film attachment, but I have not/will not be using it.I am still in awe of how easy this scanner is. The quality is remarkable! I am scanning some slides and negatives that are over 25 years old. In most cases, using the auto adjustment corrects the color and exposure. I would recommend this scanner to beginners and pros alike.

Ok, so you're shopping for a scanner and you're considering the Canon Canoscan Lide25. Great!Ask yourself the following questions:1. Are you interested in very good quality?2. Are you going to scan VERY INFREQUENTLY?If you answered both questions in the affirmative then please consider this a 5 star review. The Lide-25's quality easily rivals anything you're likely to ever want to spend consumer money on.On the other hand, and I can't belive this hasn't been stressed in all the other reviews, this scanner is so PAINFULLY SLOW that use beyond occasional use would probably be maddening for most individuals. For isntance in my case I was in the market to replace my previous scanner (a Canon Canoscan D1250U for what it's worth) which gave up the ghost. I use my scanner to scan in health insurance paperwork, credit card statements, letters, receipts and warranty info for products under warranty etc.THERE IS NO WAY IN HECK that I could live with this scanner for my purpose.Just to give you an idea... I tested the Canoscan Lide-25 and Lide-90 head-to-head ... scanning two pages in Grayscale 300dpi one after the other took 49 seconds with the Lide-90 and 101 seconds with the Lide-25 ... more than twice as long.Again, if frequent scanning isn't your thing I would easily recommend this scanner as you'll probably be very satisfied with the results given the price level.

I get so sick of interface programs that are forced down my throat. Windows XP already has the Scanner Wizard feature, which should be able to detect and control any scanner I plug in to my computer. But, the wizard doesn't detect it. So, the only way to use it is with Canon's interface program. The interface is a reasonable program, but so what? I always prefer the XP wizard over the interface programs coming with scanners, because scanner interfaces always have two negatives: they're unnecessarily complicated and they're much slower controlling a scanner than the XP wizard. The reason I bought a scanner has nothing to do with their interface obviously. I should be able to use XP alone, for faster results. This is not the fault of XP or my computer; it's the fault of the scanner for being weird. All I asked for is a scanner that would read what I put on it. I can fix my pictures myself. Why make things more complicated when I already know what I want?Additionally, the Canon people know that users like friendly products. I mean, if there is a locking mechanism under the scanner, how am I suppose to know that this is the reason my scanner isn't working? It makes me feel like an idiot for not knowing things about computer stuff. I almost sent the thing back to Amazon. Why didn't their instructions file mention it? I've used several brands of scanners at work, but other people had unboxed them. Then, why can't my computer locate the necessary files online on its own? I get a dialogue box stating the files can't be found online. I have to find the specific website to download the files. The problem arising from this is public computers, like the ones at my college or at my job, usually don't allow people to install programs. It's a security thing preventing tampering.Do I care about the whirring noise when I go to scan something? Not really. I just want the darn thing to operate the way I tell it, and without the pageant of programs on the CD I'm forced into using. There's a lot of talk about how good this scanner is for the fact that it takes its power through the USB. Well, that's great for laptops, I guess. But, it's obviously irrelevant for desktop computers. The only thing I favor about this scanner is the small amount of storage space it uses: it fits neatly into a small drawer. It'd be perfect for travelers with laptop luggage, those who don't mind using the programs coming with it.

This scanner is extremely thin and lightweight. It runs completely off the power from the USB cable, no power cable. Quality from the scans is very high. The only thing that bothers me is the software - it must be running in order for the quick buttons on the scanner to scan, and then when you want to save the photos you have to close the software before it prompts you to save. There's no File/Save option that is obvious. I feel that this is an excellent choice for such a low cost, and it has definitely met my needs.

So, it is fair to give one star to a scanner only costing $50? In this case, I think the answer is yes. Why?If you just occasionally scan in a single sheet of paper, you may get away with this scanner. The web is filled with complaints of people who can't even do that -- google this scanner and "twain error" -- but I've had no trouble with single pages yet.The problems really start occurring if you try to scan in any multi-page document. The scanner is incredibly slow, which goes along with the price, but it randomly crashes in the middle of scans with a "twain error." Even more egregiously, everything you've scanned in so far is lost in the process. So, it's back to square one, where it's just as likely to crash mid-process again. It can literally take an hour to successfully scan in a 10 page gray-scale paper, as it keeps crashing in the middle. Just awful. If you have any intention of scanning in documents, this is simply not the scanner to buy. You'll save money upfront, but you'll just end up having to return it and getting a better (non-Canon) scanner as a replacement. And Canon is of zero help in figuring out what's wrong; it is presumably a problem with their drivers that they cannot fix.My advice is avoid this at all costs unless you are the most casual of scanner users. If it doesn't work, it's not a bargain.

I had bought a CanoScan 650U about 5 years ago and is still going strong and i was so impressed I went for another Cano Scan for my Company. it is slim and can be adjusted for thick books and it has only one USB cord for both scan and Power.this LiDE 25 has three small buttons in the front for quick scan-copy-email option which is very handy. if I was you I would go for another one

I was worried about where I was going to fit the scanner on my crowded desk, but I discovered that is was small enough to easily fit in my file cabinet in a hanging folder. It takes about 1 minute to initialize when I plug it in each time, but after I'm done, I just lock the scanning mechanism in place and file it away until it is needed again. Great quality for a very reasonable price.

Scanner works as it should right out of the box. Both Mac and PC. No power cable needed as it runs right off the power from your USB. Lightweight, portable and thin. Would definitely buy this product again.

I purchased this unit to digitize ~1000 photographs that have been taken over the last 20+ years. I'm also using the scanner to obtain text from my student textbooks. This is a small, lightweight scanner. You probably don't want to let your young children operate this somewhat lightweight unit. It's size means you can easily store it near your work area and grab for quick scans. If your computer is running windows Vista you'll want to obtain updates for the Arcsoft photostudio and OmniPage SE programs that come on the CD. Canon does have a web page discussing Vista & software updates. Speaking of the CD; after installing the applications make sure to run them before storing the CD! At least one of the installations is an 'installer' install, which asks for the CD to install the program(?)Pluses-- OCR software works pretty well. This is my first time using OCR software. Picks up and lays out text content nicely, clearly flagging uncertain portions of the scan for manual correction.- small size- USB power only; no extra cord to carry- The price is right :)- multi-scan automatically creates separate scanned images of multiple items, a big time saverMinuses-- It's a bit noisy, you won't want to use it in a library- software is not visa-ready, remedied by visiting canonusa.comIt's a good unit, though you'll probably want to schedule 2 hours to set it up and 'play with' the software. Software works well but has some difficulty installing under Vista. This is a decent 'first' scanner. As light and small as it is you may find yourself 'going digital', digitizing all your paperwork, photographs, etc.

This scanner is exactly what you get when you pay $50 for a scanner. It's great for a few copies in a sitting, but not made for large quantities of scans. If thats what you need, then look at more expensive models. I bought this scanner for the sole purpose as an addition to my home PC to scan articles or the odd business document. The quality is good and you can barely tell the difference between the original and copy on 300dpi. The machine is loud and slow, but it gets the small jobs done. Well worth the $50 I spent on it.

I bought it to scan negatives. It is a bit slow when it does this, I guess it's to be expected.Performs wonderfully on normal scans.Only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 is the drivers load in memory every time operating system boots. There's no need for TSR drivers; make a device driver that can be read from a file. The drivers for this are just memory hogs - there's no need for them to be running as programs all the time.If you are looking for a good scanner and don't know what any of that means; buy this scanner. It's a good one.If you DO know what that means, complain to Canon. It's just laziness that they wrote the drivers that way.

*edit*I have now been using this scanner for the past several years, and it is amazing. I previously wrote about Canon's terrific customer service, and the product itself is easy-to-use and reliable as long as you maintain it properly. I use it to scan my artwork into the computer, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable quality scanner.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------I was very excited to have purchased this scanner--it has been on my wishlist for many years now and I could finally afford it out of my own pocketbook ^_^ However, it turns out that this scanner is defective. I thought I was being technologically incompetent--I continued receiving the same error messages--but the Canon rep I spoke with today said it is a hardware problem and not a software or computer problem. And they are issuing me a new one under warranty (So I don't have to pay a cent). Right now it is Friday, and he said to expect it sometime around Monday. Warranty or not, the Canon customer service was AMAZING, and to be honest, I am not angry at all, albeit a bit disappointed that I couldn't use my scanner sooner. After all, sometimes these things do happen, right? So I plan to come home early as I can on Monday and try out my new scanner. And then I'll finally be able to write a review on its performance! So take this 2-star review lightly until then...

I purchased the model several years ago. I'd been quite happy with it, it worked on my PCs or my Macintoshs. The problem now is Canon has not kept up with the drivers on the Macintosh and since I don't use PCs anymore this unit is dead weight. Searching the Internet for alternate drivers shows me many other people have the same issue with driver software and there seems to be no alternatives. It is not USB 2.0 compatible BTW. It was not designed to be.

I was looking for a scanner to scan two huge boxes of old familyphotos. cant beat the price. its small but great for scanningprints. I like the no power-block to keep down on the clutter. andI must rave about the auto-crop feature... its exactly what I needed.if I scan, say, 4 old photos at once it detects the seperate imagesand auto-crops them into their own files. a huge time saver so nowI dont have to do the cropping by hand in photoshop.BUT I returned the lide25 for the lide90 cuz it just wasnt fast enuff.its usb 1.1. a 600 dpi scan took 120 seconds which just isnt going towork for a huge box of photos. a 300 dpi scan is 60 seconds but stillnot faster enuff. I also couldnt find a way to select any dpi between300 and 600 if I wanted to do auto-crop so 600 it is. I wish it wouldallow me to pick 400 dpi.great scanner if you dont care about the speed.

Good scanner. I just needed better quality images for website; better than just digital photos. I have to work on them in photoshop, but if you have photoshop it's a good scanner for the money.

I purchased this scanner from Amazon after reading all the reviews on Amazon- both negative and positive. I mainly purchased this scanner to scan & archive old 35mm slides as well as store important documents on my computer. I'm very happy with this scanner.Installation went very smoothly (I'm using Windows XP w/1GB RAM). It's easy to use, produces high quality scans, and scans my 35mm slides quickly. The product comes with Adobe Elements 4.0, but this was of little value to me since I have Elements 5.0. Canon also bundles ArcSoft Photostudio 5.5- which is a great program for quickly scanning and enhancing the images of your film/slides. Also bundled is Omnipage- a OCR to PDF software converter. The software did convert a typed document to Word RTF format, but required me to upgrade to get PDF output. When I tried to upgrade, the web page couldn't be found. The quality is very good. The scan times are very reasonable-- requiring about 3 minutes to scan 4 slides at 150 DPI (which is sufficient for viewing on a computer screen). There is a high pitch squealing noise coming from the scanner-- so this may bother some people. I found the 35mm film/slide holder & accessories to be acceptable- unlike others who found the film holders to be flimsy. The only complaint is there is a very small scratch on my scanner platen glass on the inside of the scanner. I don't think this will affect my scans, but it should not be there.I understand that Canon just came out with a slightly more expensive scanner that doesn't have a warmup time. At 15-20 seconds, I don't find the scanner's warm up time objectionable.I would highly recommend this scanner.

The Cannon Scanner works very well and the instruction manual is very easy to understand. Having the ability to be able to copy, scan and e-mail without needing to go into the software is very convenient.

Before I get too far into the review, I should mention I use my scanner for art related purposes. So I do a lot of scanning from sketchbooks of different sizes. I've wanted a flatbed scanner for quite awhile and I recently decided to buy this one. It seemed like a good deal and it was what i wanted. Before that I used an all-in-one device that really didn't give me a good scan. This one fits everything pretty well. The scanning software is good too and easy to figure out. It also seems to scan faster than the all-in-one device and doesn't slow down my computer usage. And I also don't have to plug the scanner in which is absolutely great since I already use the outlet by my pc for a multitude of things. I think next I need to invest in a surge protector. Overall I'd say I'm in love, even though I haven't had it very long.

This is a great scanner in terms of image quality, cost, and size/portability. The best part, though, is ease of use. It will do anything I need it to do, and nothing else, and it does it intuitively, easily, and efficiently. There must be better scanners out there, with more awesome features, but, frankly, I'd rather have a scanner with all the features I want and NOTHING ELSE to clutter up the interface. For scanning text documents & home photos, this unit can't be beat.Oh, yeah, and *perfectly* Mac-compatible.

I have LiDE 20 for many years (scanned a lot of pictures and a lot of documents). I am still using it regularly. It always perform as expected and it is slim and light and power directly through USB. Since it is so good, I wanted to buy a second one (one at home, one at work). But LiDE 20 is out of market so I bought the LiDE 25. The LiDE 25 Windows driver is different to LiDE 20 but there is no sweat. The price is so low. I was paying $100 for the LiDE 20 but LiDE 25 cost only $50. The LiDE 25 has more features but I just want it to work like LiDE 20 and it did.
