As much as I didn't want to buy another iPad for my new tablet, Apple makes great hardware and has a nice, simple, stable operating system. If they just stuck with that I'd never leave them. Unfortunately I love my Google also and Apple is pulling an AOL by trying to make its customers be stuck with their apps. We'll see how that works out for them, but they lost me as an iPhone customer because of it.That's my Apple rant :) Moving on to the review, the 'new' new IPad, aka iPad 4, is nice and quick! Had the original iPad and it became obsolete pretty quickly due to the small 256MB of memory - great for a game of freecell, but it couldn't hold more than a few web pages without having to do constant refreshes when you switch tabs, very annoying, hardly ever used it eventually. Bought an iPad 3 for my girlfriend, she didn't like it and we returned it to buy $100 necklace which she loved. Almost bought an iPad mini, cute size, then found out Apple only put in 512MB of memory - it can't handle many web pages without doing the annoying refresh thing either - already obsolete when it hit the shelves. So iPad 4 had the nice high res screen and 1 gig of memory, still only half the 2 gigs that comparable Android tablets have, but that's why we'll all have to buy another tablet in a year or two rather than 3-4 years for any other electronic device - planned obsolescence, slightly annoying also. I would do a Nexus 7 over the mini, but since I have an Android phone with a nice large screen (which I love compared to my iPhones), a Nexus 7 is too similar. So long story short, I like and use my iPad 4 a lot more than I thought I would, it's still currently the best tablet as of February 2013. The higher res screen, although not a big difference in the store, is actually really nice once you get used to it. My MacBook Air looks old now in comparison and I'll have to upgrade that when Apple adds the Retina display on the next generation. Web pages look great, HD apps are more available now and I even use my iPad to read with the Kindle app ... although I suspect Apple will take that away from you at some point also, ha! Greedy, oh well. Best of all the iPad is very quick and has great battery life so far, using mostly for web browsing and not gaming.WIFI claim of double the speed - FALSE. One of my big factors of getting the iPad was its claim of double the WIFI speeds as I want quick internet browsing. No one at Apple Store knows how or why it will give you this or whether it will do it without special equipment like a new router. So here is the deal - the new iPad gets HALF, not double, the WIFI speed of my three year old 2010 MacBook Air on the same (standard 2.4mhz) high speed cable modem WIFI router. I get about 66Mbps (speedtest.net) on my 2010 MacBook Air and only about 32Mbps on the new iPad. Tested it every way possible and the results only get worse if you adjust your router settings. Long story short, you need to get a new dual band (2.4mhz & 5 mhz) router if you want to get the higher claimed speed, but the claimed speed is only in comparison to prior iPads. Essentially buying a new router and going though the pain of setting that up with your ISP is the only way to get back to the wireless speeds Apple could do three years ago on a standard 2.4mhz WIFI router. Browsing is fairly quick and will obviously depend on your broadband connection, but to claim double and then not even equal three year old speeds is a little annoying. In conclusion, with all the little issues that Apple makes me not like them as a company, they still do make great hardware and they have a stable operating platform. If you are looking for a quick, smooth, full size tablet, the new iPad is hard to beat. We'll see what the rest of 2013 has to bring. As Android apps convert to full size tablet and HD over time, I think next year Apple will see a lot more competition. All I want is my Google apps on my iPad, is that too much to ask for to keep me an Apple customer in the future? Will have to go through the hassle of jailbreaking this to be able to make Chrome my default browser and then Apple will not allow updates, slightly annoying. But, yes, it's a really nice tablet otherwise.

I was one of those people that said "I don't need a iPad, I have a Laptop / PC Desktop / Smartphone." There wasn't a need for a tablet in my life but it would have been nice to catch up with the world in the direction technology is moving. So over the course of years I always dismissed iPad because of it's price. I bought MANY Android Tablets and taking them back because I was disappointed with Issues. Here is a list:- Elocity A7 tablet- Samsung Galaxy Tab- Dell Streak 7- Archos (few of those)- HTC Flyer- Eee Pad Transformer- Xoom- Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1- Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0+Now all of them wasn't bad tablets, they just wasn't working properly after a while. So after all that I gave up on tablets period. I decided that since I have a now Android phone (Samsung Galaxy Note) It was time to just save and bite the bullet on a iPad....Now I question myself...Why did I wait so long to buy one?!?!This tablet is amazing, It truly a remarkable device. I can see why Apple get's praised for making a device this good and this fluent. While I understand both iOS and Android is different and each it's own (There are some things Android and iOS do better then one another.) but "The New iPad" is leaps and bounds over most tablets that I've tried here is why:Screen:Bright and Vibrant HD Visuals. It's crisp and sharp and reading on this thing is Phenomenal. This is eye candy (or iCandy) pure eye candy to anyone who is a fan of a HD display. Unlike the iPad 2 which I tried at the demo at store there is no way I can go back to a lower resolution tablet due to the fact I am spoiled by this screen. The games look amazing as well. Honestly its like the screen isn't there.Speed:Quick...So quick in everything it does. Web browsing is super fast, Opening apps is super fast, Doing anything is fast. I never owned a iPad 2 so I can't compare the two but I am very happy with it.Apps:Good apps are in the app store. Almost anything your looking for its almost certain its in the app store and running perfectly if they are iPad ready. You won't be disappointed. Its one of the best ecosystems on a tablet device. This was my main reason for getting the iPad and I'm sure a lot of other people too. There wasn't a hassle like "side loading" like it was on my first tablet "Elocity A7 tablet" which lead to a terrible user experience for a first timer. The iPad simply just works and I can believe if this your first time having a tablet. You will be happy.iOS 5.1.1 / Camera:It improves on what was already one of the best mobile OS out there. Notification makes it a much more enjoyable experience. unlike it was before on the first iPad. The cam on this thing is so much better then it ever have been before 1080p looks clean and clear. Recording Video is nice! What bad about it is that it takes up SO MUCH STORAGE. I don't see myself using the camera at all to take pictures it's nice that it's there though. Let's face it, I don't think many people would want to use their tablet to take Pictures / Videos. I will just use the front facing cam for face time.Build Quality:Solid and it just feels right in the hand. Just don't drop this tablet at all. it seem like it would break pretty easily. I would get a screen protector like I did and a case to cover the iPad. I notice its a little heavier then the iPad 2 which might be a problem to some people. The bad:Well, The iPad can get warm at times on the back. It's also somewhat restrictive and limited. I would like to have an SD slot to add more storage / lack of customization that iOS such as widgets / and a little bit more open in the market. I can live without these but it would be nice for Apple to open up a little more. The price is expensive but worth it (especially for that screen alone) just little too much just for 16GB of space.Overall:I just want to point out that this Tablet is not for Android junkies, its just not. If your coming from an Android and that's all you've been using. I doubt you will be 100% happy especially if your so use to customizations. I suggest you guys wait for the Nexus Tablet from Google which I will be getting as well. But for people that just want a great user experience with a tablet without any hassle. Even if your a New comer to tablets, I suggest you get the New iPad. Its a little hard to say if you have an iPad 2 to feel the need to upgrade unless you want that drop dead gorgeous screen. But trust me it improves on what the iPad 2 before it had which was a good tablet from the start. It have the best ecosystem, it still has the "just work" aspect and it still one of the best tablets out there. Buy it, enjoy, and have fun!Edit:I took back the 16 GB and got myself a 32GB iPad and I love it to death! Personally I highly suggest getting the 32GB/64GB iPad. its just not enough storage with some Apps ranging to 1 GB+. Thanks to some research I also found out how to do home sharing on iTunes to save space. Still loving this product so far.

Background: Until this year, I wasn't interested in a tablet of any kind because they seemed redundant with my PC, laptop, and smartphone capabilities. In other words, I couldn't determine how a new tablet would fit into my technology product suite and not simply overlap with other devices I own. I already own an Andriod device via HTC's original EVO 4G (released in June-2010 and still running Android 2.3.5 - Gingerbread) and I was extremely impressed with the operating system from Google. I've also NEVER owned any Apple products and thought they were gimmicky and overpriced compared to other brands. I needed to justify a tablet purchase, so I narrowed the research between Asus Prime 300 (not the Transformer one with the WiFi issues), Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, and the new iPad. I thoroughly researched and tested each tablet online and in-store and decided to take a bite out of Apple. I've only owned for 3 days with heavy use, but will update should my experience change in the coming weeks.Hardware: Although I thought Apple was more style than substance, I must admit that iPad is a pretty looking device.1. It is minimalistic in it's design, sleek, and seems easy for both my wife and I to hold and control. It does seem to get warm after long use though. As I'm sure many others have already mentioned, the retina display is gorgeous. I've never owned a tablet before, but did test the Asus and Samsung and this one is definitely ahead. It makes browsing the web, looking at photos, and just about everything else you do with a tablet a more enjoyable experience. I imagine that if I never saw the iPad display I would have never missed it, but boy, after you see this thing it makes looking at other screens harder.2. I also thoroughly enjoy using the camera. I initially thought a 5 megapixel camera (compared to my 8 MP camera on my EVO) would be a disappointment, but I was surprised by the quality. Although it doesn't have a flash, it still takes quality pictures in decent light. I've also learned that camera sensor quality and arpeture (sic) play a huge role in picture quality and not the megapixel count, so my guess these are at play here.3. I really haven't used the speakers or headphone jack, so I can't speak to those, but overall, I think Apple did a great job with the tabgible aspects of this tablet, especially compared to others I tested.Operating System: Again, I was accustomed to the flexibility of using Android with my smartphone and thought it was an ingenious concept to allow the user more control. I'm a thirty-something and technologically sophisticated, so I wasn't intimidated by setting up an Android device. I had always heard that Apple took a simpler approach with their devices, so I was curious to see this in action.1. Obviously, more tech savy users will prefer Android over Apple (performance aside) because it is extremely customizable. Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is probably ahead in this category for users like myself, but for those users that won't demand this flexibility, I think iOS is fine. Besides, I have become discouraged by the amount of time it takes Android to deploy their operating system updates to the various devices. And of course, yesterday Apple announced iOS 6 by this fall. I've heard that several Android tablets still don't have the latest ICS operating system even though it's been out for several months. In the end, if you prefer flexibility over simplicity, then stick with an Android tablet. If you don't care or won't use the flexilbity to its fullest potential, then Apple is just fine.2. I actually found the Apple to be more flexible than I thought based on research before I bought the tablet. I heard many Android fans complain about it. Sure, not as flexible as Android, but I imagine that many tablet users over the age of 40-45 probably won't care or even notice. And those under 40, most probably won't even explore the benefits of Android (just like when people overpaid for 1080P tv sets and didn't even use Blu-ray that much). I haven't seen any hangups or crashes that I had become used to with my Android device. I know I comparing a smartphone to a tablet, but I know operating system issues when I see them. I can't tell you how many times my smartphone has crashed and needed to be restarted after doing simple tasks. I've run my new tablet through the mud and it continues to come through without any hitches.3. The performance is very crisp compared to the Android tablets I tested. I know this can be hardware and operating system related, but I feel like this tablet just outperforms the others and delivers rapid response without any lag. I almost started to cry when I double tapped a picture and it zoomed right away. With my Android phone, I have to pray when I double tap that it won't crash and kick me out of my picture gallery. I get frustrated when I tap on something and nothing happens. And then get in more trouble when I tap again only

Ok, I would like to start by saying that the iPad that my wife got for me has no functional deficits. The reason I am assigning a "1 star" rating to this product is NOT because we bought a defective unit. Nor am I disappointed with the service: every time I went to the Apple Store to get help (and that happened a lot!), a perky 16-year-old would materialize out of thin air and show me how to press the only button available to make the gizmo work. But herein is the rub: if buying an iPad, any iPad, please be aware of its limitations. I THOUGHT I WAS GETTING A SMALL COMPUTER, WHAT I GOT WAS A LARGE CELL PHONE WITHOUT THE PHONE!PROs:-- it looks cool;-- my kids love it;-- yes, there are a lot of free apps in the AppStore;-- you can check your eMail pretty much anywhere and any timeCONs:-- many "free" iPad apps are "teasers;" i.e. they have limited functions and you have to pay to get a full version of these apps only to discover that they are often faulty;-- NO Java support-- NO Flash media support (although the iPad does come with a free YouTube app)-- NO preloaded apps that would let you manage Word-type documents or Excell-type spread sheets (you have to buy those but, again, once you do, you soon realize that they are nowhere close to the quality of the ones you use on your desktop [Mac or Windows])-- most importantly, there is NO ABILITY TO MANAGE YOUR OWN FILES! This one particular lacking feature drives me to distraction! There are several apps you can BUY that would allow you to manage your OWN files but, again, they are very poorly designed and often do not interact well with iTunes, Windows, or, surprisingly, iPad's own OS system .-- and here is another critical issue: EVERYTHING MUST BE SYNC'd via iTunes. If you are running a Windows desktop, this may be (and in my case indeed IS) a serious problem. Things purchased via iTunes, iStore, AppStore, etc, usually manage to get to your iPad unscathed. Other content (e.g. I am an eBook fan and purchase my eBooks in multiple places on the Net) are not so fortunate. Although, Apple's iBook app is free and allows you to use both .pdf and .ePub formats (you can also install a free Kindle app for .mobi books), actually getting your books onto your iPad may be difficult, if not impossible. You cannot "drag-and-drop" your book files (or any other files) onto your iPad. Everything MUST BE SYNC'd with iTunes, an app called "DropBox," or some other app. If your iTunes does not get along with your desktop (usually a PROBLEM FOR WINDOWS users like me), you will end up spending endless grim nights uninstalling iTunes, re-installing iTunes, wiping your iPad clean, sync'ing and re-sync'ing your iPad again, and again, and again.-- The Camera is OK, but keep in mind that all your videos will be in .mov format and may not play on all desktops --you will need a special converter to re-code the formats for non-Apple media players; you will need to install "Quick Time for Windows" on your desktop if you are running Windows.-- finally, there is noway to increase the amount of memory for the device as there is NO slot for a memory expansion card. I can't believe it! Every tablet has it BUT iPad. So you are pretty much stuck with 16 gB, 32 gB, or 64 gB tablet without ever having any hope of expanding!OVERALL : I feel so bad that my wife spent all that money, time, and effort to get me this. I feel awful that her loving good intentions made us spend ~ $900 for something that turned out to be just an appallingly expensive toy, poorly engineered, thoughtlessly designed, and very frustrating to use. (The MSRP is ~ $600 - 700, but there are sales tax, additional warranty, front cover, back cover, USB attachments, and other apparel that one needs for this thing, hence the enormous price!) The good thing is: it is possible to easily re-set it back to factory settings. And we still have the original box. I think it will make a great (and a VERY EXPENSIVE) Christmas gift for my in-laws. For Windows users (like me): please, think hard before sinking all that money into this purchase! Again, keep in mind, this is NOT a small and portable computer, IT IS ESSENTIALLY A SmartPhone WITHOUT THE PHONE!... just a bit bigger, though...

I would first like to say I DID NOT purchase this item on amazon because the markup is silly high. I have read allot of the amazon reviews and feel that some reviewers are very unfair on the product. So with that said please read my review if you are considering buying.I bought the 32GB wifi and Verizon 4G in whiteI currently own the retina display iPad in whiteIn the past I have owned the galaxy tab 10.1, the Samsung ativ pc pro, galaxy note, and kindle 8.9 HDI love the iPad mini. I think it is very practical for everyday use. It is easy to hold, battery life is excellent, typing is easy, equipped with a few movies, a few games, and the kindle AP you always have entertainment wherever you go in a small and beautiful form factor. Many people are raising a fuss about the non-retina display... This does not bother me even though my primary device before the mini has been the retina iPad. You can see pixels, it's not so beautifully crisp as the retina but it is still above adequate for reading, gaming, etc. after an hour or so of using this device I don't even notice the difference. I owned the kindle fire, and while the screen was HD and looked great I couldn't stand how tied to Amazon I was with it (sorry amazon I love you) and well... I had other issues with it as well. Some people are claiming the device is slow especially when buffering utube. I have not seen any difference in speed from my iPad 3. As far as gaming goes words with friends is the only game I play and it works flawlessly on the mini. Perhaps if your buying the iPad for gaming you would be happier with the iPad 4 ( or whatever they are calling it) because it has more RAM and a faster processor. The form factor of theMini is simply amazing, I honestly can't complain about the lack of retina because I think that's too much to ask right now for any manufacturer to get into such a slim and light package. You honestly can't truly understand how amazing this thing is until you have used an iPad 3 for a significant amount of time, the weight and bulk gets to you. The iPad mini fits so well into my purse and I can hold it easily for hours with one hand. I can read and rock my child to sleep at the same time now!You should only get the wifi version unless you have a share everything plan as my husband and I do, then you can ad your tablet on for a low fee to your existing plan. I would never pay 30 dollars a month for a separate plan. I love that you can use FaceTime over the 3G or 4G, I tuck this into my purse and if my son is doing something particularly cute on the playground during daddies lunch break we can call him and say "hi".As far as cases go, I am a minimalist so I love the Smart Cover paired with a clear plastic back so I don't cover up the beauty of my mini. The Smart Cover is different from my iPad 3 smart over, the hinge does to have any metal showing and it snaps on tighter and looks much nicer. I tried the Griffin thin case folio (I think that was what it's called) it was really nice looking but when the mini was in it it didn't lie flat hindering some of my key presses on the outer edge of the device. I recently read a review on this product and the man raved about it, so maybe I just got a faulty case.Apple care+ feels like a must on this device. Because I will be carrying this wherever I go and because its so slim I want to cover my a** if I drop this beautiful piece of equipment. If I bought the 16GB wifi only version I might not pay the extra dough for AppleCare +.The speakers really surprised me on this little device, they are loud and clear! I still wish Apple would include headphones in every package as well as an adapter for the new power connector (we all know Apple is stingy) but they don't.I am really excited about this device, I could have saved money and purchased a google nexus 7 or any one of the other 7 inch devices but their battery life, build quality, and battery life are inferior to the mini. (Yes I am sure someone will send a nasty comment when they read this about me being an isheep) I don't stand behind a product simply because it is made by a certain company, I stand behind a product when it is a damn good product. I recognize the mini has some shortcomings but they far outweigh the greatness of this beautiful product.

Actually, I liked this tablet better than I thought I would. However, as you will see below I have some major gripes with the price/features combination for this model. Lately I have been seriously thinking about upgrading my iPad 3. Tried the new Samsung Tab 10.1 (2014), iPad Air, and this Mini. Neither one of those larger tables really tempted me to give up on my iPad 3. Yes, they were a bit better in this and in that, but eventually neither one felt twice as good as my iPad 3 to justify their price (I figured that I would have to double the $280 or so that would get after selling my iPad 3).iPad Mini retina did feel like a major upgrade in terms of size and weight. In fact, it is a better value in terms of size/weight vs screen size against iPad 3: you are dropping 50% of the weight and only losing 33% of the screen real estate (and nothing in resolution, of course). Surprisingly, most of the time I did not even feel any limitations of the smaller screen. I think part of the reason that made me like the new iPad Mini was that lately I have got a MBPr and the need for a larger retina screen now is satisfied by the laptop while the compactness of the tablet becomes more important. However, there are two main problems that I have with the new Mini. One, is the limited gamut of the screen. I might be picky, but I do see the difference and not only side by side, but also when moving from one device to another. The larger iPad's home screen looks simply gorgeous in comparison to the Mini's home screen. (Probably, part of the reason is that I kept iOS 6 on my iPad 3 and it's color scheme is less "whitish.")Another problem is pricing. How come after all these years of upgrading its larger tablets without increasing the price Apple decided to do it differently with the iPad Mini? The "original" iPad Mini was $330 and the iPad Mini retina is $400? Yes, the Mini got better, but the Air got better too with no price increase, same thing with iPad 4, iPad 3, and iPad 2. If they kept the price at $330 I would overlook the bleaker screen and go for it. Or if the screen had 100% gamut I would pay $400. But not both. I can not justify paying that much money while not feeling that I am getting a premium product. There are way cheaper tablets out there with 100% gamut and I do not want to pay $400 for a tablet and feel that it is inferior to a $220 tablet when it comes to such an important parameter as its screen. You can see how much fewer reviews of this tablet are out there on amazon compared to the iPad Air. Seems like people are just not buying this model as much. I am returning the Mini and waiting until Apple comes up with an upgraded model that has 100% gamut screen. And they better not add another $70-$100 chunk on the top of the price when it happens!

This is, without a doubt, the best tablet on the market. It's what's all other tablets aspire to be, hands down. The problem is that while it's better than the iPad 2, the difference might not be enough. So what's different? The screen is now 4 times the resolution. It's the best screen on a tablet, by miles. If you were to display a picture of icecream on the screen you'd be tempted to even lick it. RAM is also now doubled which leads, most notably so far, to less reloading of pages when you use multiple tabs in browsing. The graphics processor is also better, while the main processor it self remains at the same speeds. The differences in this, so far, aren't perceivable. The back camera is also improved but I'm not really sure who's taking pictures with their iPad. If you go with the LTE option, well that's going to clean the floor with the 3G versions, but that's up to you. On the downside the tablet is now also a little heavier (it is noticeable, but you'll forget about it) and runs warmer with long use (this is also noticeable and you won't be able to ignore it unless you're using a case). Also Apple changed the polarity of the sleep/wake magnets so now nearly all 3rd party cases that you have from the iPad 2 won't work that way. What's not different? iOS. All the pros and cons are still there. The front camera is also still VGA. While the graphics processor got a nice bump the CPU itself is still the same dual-core.I'm really disappointed Apple didn't improve the front camera. A VGA camera on a screen this good is just a joke. The rear camera, a camera I used maybe a dozen times in my ownership of my iPad 2 gets a massive upgrade but the camera I've used for hours of video chat is left where it was (even a year ago the VGA camera was terrible). I can only assume it was left off to provide some feature for the next iPad. What this product ultimately highlights now are the shortcomings with iOS. Aside from putting a better front camera in the device and addressing some of the backwards steps with the iPad 3 (temp, weight) there's really nothing else Apple can do with this device. The main hold over from the iPad 2 was the screen and that's been solved now. Apple needs to, and appears to be doing (but slowly), work on the OS itself. It's somewhat troubling that by and large iOS 5.1 looks and operates the same as iOS3 and 4. The most notable of improvements has been the addition of the multitouch gestures and the addition of the notification system. All nice additions but they don't really represent 2 years worth of changes. In comparison to the iPad 2 this is a nice upgrade, but ultimately it's not enough. I'm not sure anything could have been enough to be honest though, but the fact that it runs hotter and is heavier don't help it in comparison. While the screen is appreciable, the screen on the iPad 2 is still amazing in it's own right. If anything it's not a comment on poor quality of the new iPad but rather just that the iPad 2 was already so good. The new iPad is a worthwhile upgrade from the original iPad or great for a first time buyer.Pros:++Screen++Extra RAM+iPhone and iPod touch based games now use their retina display apps for upscaling on the iPad (this is a REALLY nice improvement when you do use it).Cons:--Front facing camera is still the same-no new OS version = same old same old (e.g. no Siri)In addition, I'd like to compare this to Android tablets in general as I own both. Android itself represents a better operating system. Notifications are better, multitasking is better, and just the general usability of the device is better - especially with regard to the home screen. What Android tablets fail to deliver, however, is the smoothness and richness that iOS offers. Scrolling on a webpage in iOS versus in Android is just effortless. It really shows off the imperfections of Android in general, much like how Android shows off the short comings of iOS. The other issue is app selection. Android doesn't have the heavy media hitters. No Hulu Plus, no Xfinity, no HBO Go, no EA games, and just a general lack of quality applications (Android 2.2/2.3 based tablets and the Kindle Fire are exceptions but I'm focused on iOS 5 versus Honeycomb or ICS). While the Google apps are hands down better on the Android side, they don't make up for the lack of entertainment on the iPad. Also to note, a lot of the Android apps really don't feel like they take any advantage of the screen size difference, many of the apps feel just like scaled up phone applications where as iPad apps seem to have more thought put in to them for the extra size. While Android often times offers better and more features in it's core implementation, none of that matters when there's so little in comparison to do. And nearly none of the things they both do are done as well on Android or as smoothly. Yes, I miss widgets, GTalk integration, and a variety of other things when I use my iPad, but I ultimately use i

What's included? The device is packaged nicely and the box includes the iPad charger rated at 2.1 Amps at 5.1 VDC. It also includes a USB to iPad cable for use with the power supply and it also interfaces with your computer to connect to iTunes. The cable is only 41 inches long which is always one of my pet peeves because when you plug the charger in the wall the cable is too short to allow you to reach to the top of a dresser for example and charge the product at night. The first thing you will do is buy a USB male to female extender cable or buy the Apple extended version charger at $29 cost to charge the unit properly. You also get a one page instruction card that basically says to turn on the unit and follow the directions. You also get the important product information guide and two white apple logos to use as you desire.Set up* Turn it on and select your language and touch next.* Select your country and touch next.* It will ask you if you want to have the unit identify the location of where you are at. Select yes as this is important for later tracking of the device if it is stolen.* Activate networks, which in my case was only WIFI. Select your SSID from the list of possible connections, enter in your password, if your network is protected. Touch next.* Activate your Apple ID using your e-mail address and your Apple password.* Accept the Apple terms.* It will then start a set up.* It asks if you want to use the cloud option for communication and uploading and downloading.* It asks if you want to use the dictation mode when you touch the microphone on the keyboard.* The iPad then does some diagnostics and loading.* It asks you if you are ready to register the product with Apple.* It then tells you that you are ready to use the iPad.Attach the unit to your computer that has iTunes installed, (make sure you are using the latest version):* When you plug in the iPad it asks if you want to set it up as a new iPad or to use the data of an existing iPad. I selected New iPad.* It asks you to select an iPad name. Make sure that it is unique so that you don't confuse iTunes into thinking you have two devices with the same name.* The iPad is set to auto sync and I stopped that as my music files are to large for the 64 GIG memory. I select only the music, videos, and photos I want to sync.* The unit will begin to sync your data and it will install all of your existing apps you own as long as you have not exceeded the limit of 5 Apple devices using those apps.* Your apps are all loaded as single apps and if you want you have to combine them into folders and name the folders. This took me about an hour as we own over 200 apps. The list was 10 pages long.* I then told the iPad to sync with my contacts, calendar and with two email accounts using Outlook. Don't forget you will have to enter in your ISP email account password for each email account you sync with before your e-mail will be down loaded.* All of these steps occurred without error and they happened very quickly. This unit is faster than the iPad 2 device and it clearly shows while processing these steps.Installing Kindle Reader app.* I use the Kindle reader app a lot and it was already installed above by the app installation process.* Touch the Kindle app and it will ask you for your Amazon ID and password. Almost instantly it tells you that you can look at your books in the Cloud and you will start to load up the book covers. Each cover will have a downward pointing arrow on it to indicate that it has not been downloaded to your device.* Touch each cover and the book will download. I have a very good WIFI and each book only took seconds. I own about 350 Kindle books and the process was very fast. You can touch 10 to 15 books and it will download them sequentially and very quickly.* When you are reading a book and want to look up a word in the dictionary, the first time it will ask you if you want to download the dictionary to your device. Select yes and it takes about 5 seconds to do this. Look up of words is virtually instantaneous.* You will notice the outstanding quality of the display as the text looks like a printed page with perfect resolution and dark text. It is impressive!Find iPhone* Touch the Find iPhone icon* Enter in your Apple ID and Password and touch Go.* The application will then locate all of your Apple devices assigned to your account. You can now look at each location either on a map or even a satellite view. If your iPad does not show up then go to settings and touch Location Services and turn on Find My iPad and Status Bar Icon. You will be able to locate your device within about 10 to 20 feet!* It is critical that you set this up as you can now track your device if it is lost or stolen!* You can also make the missing device, Play a Sound, Remote Lock, Remote Wipe, and even allow it to send you an e-mail when the device is found.SecurityThis is one of Apple's shining stars regarding security. By touching settings for example you can se

I bought the iPad 3 at release, which at the time of writing was about six months ago. This review is not so much about the technical abilities of the iPad (which are well covered elsewhere), but more about the difficult-to-define allure of the product.People I know who also own an iPad, or who are considering buying one, often seem to spend some time coming up with justifications for the purchase: it'll help with their work, it will be great to watch movies on the train, it will keep the kids amused. After all, no-one *needs* an iPad; we can all get along quite adequately without one and at the back of our minds we are well aware of this. The iPad is expensive and for most of us it's a lot of money to fork out on what is essentially a luxury item. Deciding what you want to get out of the iPad, and whether there's a cheaper alternative available might be questions worth considering before committing.Having thought through the sensible stuff though, I, like many others was seduced, and parted quite happily with Ł500 odd in the expectation of...what exactly? You often see the words "Apple" and "magic" in the same sentence, and this ability to produce products which go beyond one's expectations are at the core of the company's success. Having bought an iMac a year or so ago, I was confident that I would again have my investment in an Apple product repaid several times over in the sheer enjoyment which goes with an amazement at the uncanny perfection of the product's capabilities. So, there I was in the Apple store, seated at a table, an attendant at the quasi-mystical ceremony at which my own iPad was removed from its packaging and prepared for set up. As this was the first day on sale, various people gathered to watch in awe. I was required to do the unboxing and unveiling, instructed in every move by the assistant. After removing the protective sleeve it was time to flick the button and bring life to the screen. A hush descended. As smooth as silk, the interface appeared in all its cool beauty. This truly was a work of art.Six months on and it's almost always in constant use, whether by me or another member of the family. Interestingly, different aspects seem to appeal to different people. For me it's the mail which is probably the singularly most useful feature. I have my work email as well as private email accounts all in the mail application. The messages are clearly laid out, and writing and responding I find is easy enough on the keyboard, though I know a lot of people don't find it so; it takes a while to adapt your hand shape to the keyboard, but the predictive text ensures that even if you hit the wrong key the word will probably still appear as you intended. Somehow Apple have made even such a mundane program as mail glamorous, and Excel, Word and pdf documents look spectacularly clear and professional on the retina display.Kids love the apps, particularly the gaming ones of course, and there's always a new one coming along in this seemingly inexhaustible supply of the new and extraordinary.Photos look a million dollars on the new screen and iPhoto ensures that albums can be easily organised. The iPad cleverly syncs with your PC so not just photos, but music moves seamlessly between the two.iTunes, YouTube and the BBC app mean you could be entertained for hours, if you should so choose. Whatever you watch you'll be treated to pin-sharp definition. The sound is fine on the basic headphones. All these things, in my opinion, make this a luxury worth having. However, the iPad is somehow more than the sum of its parts, and the robustness of its manufacture (I can attest to this as it's been dropped from a height on more than one occasion) together with the absolute lack of any indication whatsoever that there are actually processors whirring and chips buzzing below that crystalline surface, instil a confidence that this is somehow more than just a mass-market device. I defy you not to be beguiled...

I bought my iPad 3 for using aviation apps in my airplane. The aviation apps available these days are simply amazing. I no longer have to carry a big case full of charts and approach plates. It's all available on my iPad. Plus the location of my airplane is shown right on the chart or approach plate in real time. I can get 15 minute old weather including radar and satellite showing right on the chart. And with the 4G active I get updates in the air as long as I'm not in the mountains too far from a cell tower on the ground. The FAA and airlines have been crazy careful about passengers using cell phones in airliners. I can use my cell connection on my iPad for real time updates while in the air. For aviation usage the iPad is wonderful. That said, I use the iPad at home for reading the NY Times and responding to email. I have a Logitech bluetooth keyboard/cover that perfectly integrates with the iPad. I also use the iPad for displaying textbooks in the Amazon Kindle app. I can use the iPad for a laptop replacement for domestic pleasure trips. But for international travel the iPad is not very useful. For business trips there's no real replacement for a laptop when you need to use PowerPoint to make presentations or work with large spreadsheets or documents. The iPad is for light duty only. And it has no video connection for attaching a projector. HDMI is available using an adapter. But it's not well integrated. I see folks using an iPad for reading a book on an international flight or watching a movie. But a Kindle is much better suited for book reading on long flights. And bigger Android phones work perfectly well for watching movies. Taking an iPad on an international trip where it's a major target for thefts is really not the best idea. This iPad is the best option for what I use it for - aviation. So I can highly recommend getting an iPad for aviation. Make sure you get a WiFi 4G model. The WiFi only models do not have built in GPS. I've tried the few apps available for aviation on Android. But they are much less capable than the iPad versions and there is really only one app choice - Garmin :Pilot. If you're in the Apple world and need a tablet then the iPad is a logical choice. But if you're in the Android world and don't need aviation apps, then the Galaxy Note 8.0 or the Galaxy Tab Pros are very good tablet choices.

I would have given it 5 stars. But even though the Amazon Market Place's packaging for shipment was as good as required for shipping and delivering this type of merchandise, and that the Apple iPad factory box was undamaged, both wrappings intact and unopened, the iPad screen came with a noticeable two centimeter hairline scratch on top center, right below the camera lens. The scratch was visible through the factory envelope-like cellophane wrapping around the iPad itself. That type of scratch, could not had happened at the seller's warehouses, nor during transportation/delivery because it requires direct contact with the screen to produce it and as I explained the delivery package and product box where undamaged and unopened, so responsibility lies with manufacturing facility during or before final boxing of the iPad, which says a little of quality assurance and control in this case. That is, I do not blame Amazon nor the seller for the problem in this particular case (first time ever). That aside, the new iPad is working nicely and has a great retina display (colors, graphics, resolution...) and great speed. But I still will not give it the fourth and fifth stars, because contrary to what I'm used, and expect, to get from Apple products, this one didn't have that mint condition look that I expected from and Apple's new item. Instead of going trough the process of returning with all the time delay and implications (customs in my country for once)I installed a anti-glare/mate screen protector to "hide" the scratch, which somehow defeats the purpose of the great retina displayIMPORTANT UPDATE: IOS 7 have a feature that cannot be turned of, which verifies that the Lightning connector is certified by Apple, and as soon as I update to IOS 7, and connected my iPad to be charged with the Lightning connector that came with the iPad in the original, brand new, sealed and unopened factory box I got a pop up display that stated that my iPad connector isn't certified and my not function properly with my iPad. I reported this to apple via chat support and the agent told me, after running an online diagnostic, that my device and connectors were new and that it was a glitch in the IOS 7 verifying routine that would be fixed on a next release (update of IOS 7), so I dismissed (every time) the message and charged my iPad without problems. But that was until today, after connecting the new iPad with the supposedly original Apple lightning connector and receiving the warning message, the iPad stop charging after reaching 27% charge. Beware, either don't buy this model or wait until Apple issues some kind of correction or update removing that verifying routine from IOS 7. Right now for me, living outside the US this is a disaster, returning the device, for me is not an option. So I will have to take my iPad to a Venezuelan authorized service center, testing and probably buying a new "original" lightning connector, cause if I buy the Apple care plan in the US It won't be applicable in my country.

It's termed the iPad 4 but technically it's the iPad 6.I bought this particular model several months after its release at an AT&T store in a mall. They had it in stock, so I was thrilled with the fact that I could walk out of the store on my lunch break with a fully functioning new iPad. I'm a sucker for picking things up in person, unless it means waiting on a line with people who think they are 'making history' with their purchase, in which case I just have it shipped to me at home or work, most likely from Amazon. This is my first iPad. I held off on buying one because I'm a film geek and wanted a full HD display. When Apple came out with the Retina Display, I thought, "That's great, but with a maximum of 64GB it's still just a toy. I need at least 120GB." And then they came out with a 128GB model plus a better port and it was time to buy. All my friends who rushed to buy the first iPad, the iPad 2, and 'The New iPad' as the 3rd generation model was called were definitely jealous; but more important for me was that I got exactly what I wanted. In fact I was so happy with getting exactly what I wanted that when the iPad Air came out, a little faster and lighter than the one I bought, it didn't make a difference to me. Sure, I'm looking forward to when Apple comes out with what I predict will be a larger, more powerful, fully functioning computer in iPad form--and I'm predicting it will be called the iPad Pro--but even then I'll probably wait until at least the next generation of that model before buying it unless it features the ability to use Final Cut Pro (which no current iPad can do). Will you regret buying this one instead of the iPad Air or waiting for the next model? I don't think so. First thing, it's nearly as powerful as the iPad Air, and if you wait for the next model you're going to pay top dollar. If you wait for the price to drop, then you're going to want the model after that. And the cycle of suffering on this matter is endless. When you're ready to buy, then buy. Buy the one you want. This one versus the Air, personally I think the only significant difference is price, that you're not missing something. Just make sure to buy it new from an authorized Apple dealer.

I was one the people who purchased the ipad 3 within a few weeks of the ipad 4 being released. I was able to return my ipad 3 to the apple store within 3 weeks of purchasing from them. At first I was angry that apple released a newer version after 6 months. I then purchased the refurbished ipad 3. After a while I found it to be slow and read many good reviews about the ipad 4. Black Friday came along and I was able to purchase the ipad 4 for cheaper than the price of the brand new ipad 3 version. On to my review. The ipad 4 is considerably faster than the ipad 3. I noticed this right away once I started using it. Opening, closing and switching apps is faster. Boot up is now half the time of the ipad 3. The ipad 3 took almost 50 seconds, ipad 4 takes 25 seconds. Wifi is also much faster. I have a newer router that supports dual channel bonding. Many web pages load almost instantly. Speed tests show much faster speeds. My ipad 3 would get 30-40 Megs down. My ipad 4 gets 60-70 megs down. The ipad 4 also comes with the lightning connector cable and a faster powered charger. This allows the ipad 4 to be charged in quicker amount of time (5hours and 15 minutes). The ipad 3 charged with its charger takes 6 hours to fully charge. The ipad 4 also has a newer hd front camera for FaceTime or Skype. The ipad 3 did seem slow at times mainly due to an under powered processor having to operate the demanding retina display. The ipad 4 no longer has this problem. My ipad 4 finally feels like my ipad2 used to feel. Fast and responsive. My ipad 4 is also getting 1-2 more hours battery life than my ipad 3. This is due to the a6x more efficient processor. I can get about 18 hours of web browsing and youtube watching with brightness on 25% and notifications, email, GPS and Bluetooth turned off. The ipad 4's screen is made by LG. At first I didn't like it compared to my ipad 3's screen made by Samsung. The screen appears with a yellowish tint when compared to ipad 3's which has a blueish tint. After using the ipad for a few days the ipad 4's screen grew on me. The LG screen is said to be more accurate and easier on the eyes. I also found it brighter, which means I can keep the brightness lower to save battery life. When the ipad 4 was first announced I was hoping it had some of the ehancements I had on my wish list. I wanted it to be lighter, thinner, stereo speakers and 2gb ram. None of these features were added to the ipad 4. The ipad 4 is still heavy and thicker than the ipad2. The ipad 2 was the perfect weight and thickness. The ipad 4 is still heavier and thicker due to its retina display and much larger battery. I don't know if the ipad 5 will be able to be made thinner and lighter. There is a good chance the next ipad will have stereo speakers like the ipad mini design. I'm still not sure how their will be room to fit the stereo speakers. Hopefully the next ipad will also have 2gb of ram. This is a much needed feature so that the ipad can better multitask and run many tabs without reloading pages. If you don't really need or care about a lighter, thinner ipad with stereo speakers and 2 gb of ram then you should buy the ipad 4 right now. The ipad 4 is a great device, which is the fastest when compared to any other tablet on the market right now. No other tablet will give you 10+ hours battery life. Apple continues to have the best tablet apps with 275,000 and growing. Apple also has great build quality and support. The ipad 4 is must have for previous owners of the ipad 1 or 2. If you have the ipad 3 and you bought it when it first came out I would still suggest waiting for the next ipad. Unless you can sell your ipad 3 for a reasonable price or you were able to return it. The next ipad will have more improvements then this version and will be released by October 2013 or even earlier.

Well I have the Latest Kindle and the Latest Galaxy Tab and as a user and a tech person, the Ipad wins in my home environment hands down...There just isn't any real comparison...The Kindle is nice and the Galaxy is too but the Ipad just blows them away in screen resolution and efficiency.I can actually do more things on my Ipad than the others..You can get a Kindle app for the Ipad but you can't get Apple apps for the kindle or Tab. You see there is a method to Apples madness. If you notice even Amazon is now restricting stuff on the kindle like number of songs, etc. but they don't have the background of Apps like Apple. Having an Iphone and other Apple products helps, man oh man the Itunes and cloud works awsome, but that is a bonus, because as a Tablet alone I can't see getting anything else but an Ipad. Maybe they won't have a particular app you like, but the Apps they have are usually done much better than the Android stuff. For those of you Apple haters out there. If you have never owned one, then I suggest you keep quiet because reading about it does not make you an expert. Apple makes great products whether you like it or not. I think I am qualified to say this because I am a Windows PC tech...:-) But please, if you are thinking about the Ipad, try and get to an Apple store and test drive one. If you have never had a tablet you should still be impressed and if you have had a tablet you should be impressed, if not so be it, but don't knock it before you try it.One thing to remember about any electronic device especially Cell phones and Tablets..You got to be smarter than it. You need to be able to read AND COMPREHEND. don't play around with VPN settings if you don't know what they are before finding out for instance.1. Great resolution..Beautiful Screen2. Does everything online we ask it too.3. Movies and TV shows and online videos are fantastic.3. Siri works great.4. SO far not to much problem with Maps.5. Maybe a bit heavy for some folks but no heavier than the old Kindle fire and just slightly heavier than the new one.6. Email is easy to set up.7. I haven't found anything particular that I dislike yet.I do have Multiple Tablets at my house so feel free to leave me a note if you want to ask a question.Oh by the Way I have had NO heat problem with this and to pay only 75 dollars more for the Ipad 3 than an Ipad 2 is a no brainer, for those of you who are thinking about buying an Ipad 2 instead, don't, the Ipad 3 is just that much better, and if you have a Laptop like me then you should have a lap cooler lying around anyway right ? If not buy an inexpensive lap cooler or small portable fan if you are so worried about the heat. SO far though I have not had a heat issue.Update: Please be aware if you get the WI-FI only model the dependence on WI-FI may affect the performance in public places like Hotels, Coffee shops, etc. At a full hotel with free Wi-Fi, you may find things a bit slower than what you are used to. If connection is a major issue for you then maybe a 3g model. It is my own personal preference that I refuse to pay anything to Verizon or AT&T as to why I don't have the 3g.Update: I think I mentioned this before..If you don't own an Apple product or never have, then I HIGHLY suggest you get to an Apple store or even a Best Buy if you can to test drive this. You are indeed going to find it different than any other tablet you may have owned.I have other Apple products so it is not difficult using it. Also, not to be obnoxious about it but if the price of any of these is scaring you off then maybe you should be paying your bills anyway. I didn't get the 3g model simply because I can't stand Verizon or AT&T and I wouldn't pay them to shine my shoes. To me, to pay $100.00 less for an Ipad 2 is just lame. No Heat issues as of yet.Buying via Amazon by the way was a breeze, got the device in 2 days. Adobe Flash is of course an issue, hence YOUTUBE will be a problem for you if you use it any. There is a way to do it but I'm not going into it here.

Honestly, I had been trying to figure out what an iPad4 was. Well, this is essentially an iPad3 with a few improvements that I really like.I already own an iPad2, but decided to upgrade to this because I needed to bump up to 32GB. That, and a deal on this iPad which was incredible convinced me to upgrade now. I still use my MacAir and my Dell laptops, but the iPad is my daily go to device and where I go an iPad is going. Great battery life and minimal problems make this a much loved convenience. The improvements are not overwhelming, but the truth is I already love the iPad and this makes it better. I've always thought the screen image was very good, but this is an obvious step up. It is clear, bright and vivid with the improved retina display. The iSight camera at five megapixels is very good, but I wasn't complaining about the pictures I took with my old iPad. Still, it is a nice improvement and it takes a much clearer picture than my old iPhone. The new processor is really fast. I didn't think it was slow before but when I have a lot of apps running I've noticed that it is faster. You'll have to trust me on this one. I tend to run a lot of stuff at the same time and the old iPad was slower, but not to the extent that I found it irritating or irksome.I like the new lightening connector which is an 8 wire adapter. Just me, but it seems less clunky. However, if you have a lot of Apple products that use the old 30 wire adapter, this may be a pain. I'm going to have to get another car charger/wall charger and I'll have to take two chargers to cover both adapter types when I hit the road.Another thing I like is my personal secretary Siri. Depress the screen button and Siri is ready to roll. It is voice interpretive intuitive software that retrieves information. While this will probably seem like rudimentary artificial intelligence in a few years, I get a total kick out of it. It's nice to get directions or find out where the Sox are playing or get the earliest showing of a movie. Love it, though I am still playing around with it and probably haven't scratched the surface yet. I don't know if there is any truth to this, but I've heard that the Suri software may be available for the earlier versions of iPad at a later date.As for the size and weight, minimally larger but I'd be hard pressed to say this except I compared the specs. Here is the thing. If you don't care about a better camera or a better display or a faster processing speed or having your own cyber slave to talk to, go with the less expensive iPad2.I like Apple products. I have been using the iPad for two years now and it is fairly trouble free. The few problems I've had were the result of software upgrades. I am absolutely no techie type, but the problems have all been fixed with minimal grief. This product is getting 4* because the differences between this iPad and its predecessor are slight when you look at the overall big picture. This takes a great product and kicks it up a notch or two, but it hasn't reinvented or reimagined the iPad.Update: I am liking this better each day. The updated processor is nice but this also seems a bit more intuitive if it can possibly be so.The imaging is incredible and the pictures this takes are amazing in their clarity and level of detail.I found that my pricey Joby stand case, which was supposedly made to fit with my iPad 2 works with the new iPad despite very slightly different dimensions. I'm delighted that it doesn't have to be tossed. The only problem I've encountered thus far was an upgrade to the software. This is Apple's problem since it screwed up our other iPads with the same problems, most notably with mail. There is a fix that I found on an Apple forum.Love this, but it is still a 4* considering everything.

For someone who is familiar with iOS and used either iPhone or iPad, the experience on this can be just great. If you have nothing to compare against, it depends. If you are coming from Android world, there may be some surprises.I got 64GB 4G LTE version. LTE version mainly for GPS as WiFiversion does not have GPS. I am big into using voice guided navigation. First let me go through areas which can be improved or what I find as negatives. Everyone gives positives which I will surely give in plenty at the end.1. Having no back button, I do find a bit troubling initially, but got used to quickly. I used iPhone, went back to android and now used a iPad. You have to exit each app in entirety before you can go and launch another. But if you back to original app, and if it supports multitasking, you can continue from where you left off.2. All tablets are heavy and one has to set expectations for one handed usage. This is compared to Kindle. So set your expectations3. Having no siri is a bummer, I thought Apple will have that. Hope a software update will fix it and they upgrade the data center machines to handle it.4. Voice dictation has lot to improve. Google voice dictation and decipher is unbeatable5. In App store after you buy each app, it jumps to new app. I often want to buy several apps at a time. Apps cannot be launched immediately, it takes time, so having ability download and trigger multiple app purchases in one screen will be good. For example a car racing game I downloaded was 1.3 GB!6. I wish you can pack more apps in each page like the bottom bar which can have 6 apps.7. iPad does not have an app/hardware to do laser dental floss for you :)Now the Positives. The positives outnumber the negatives by a huge margin.1. The display is very sharp. Since I have not used any tablet in the past for prolonged periods, there is no reference for me, but looks sharp. I have used Archos couple of years back.2. Having 64GB was a boon as I have GBs of music, photos and pdf documents. pdf documents render beautifully in this ipad. text is sharp and crisp.3. Navigon, mow owned by Garmin is fantastic. It is like having a large map with you. The details and voice guided directions are excellent.4. Settings menu is just great, I played around with all options in settings. Accessibility options are great. Being able to increase font sizes is excellent. Black on white and white on black are also great.5. The apps are very fluid and apps like Kindle is excellent6. Touch response is just awesome. No android phone can even come close to it. I used Archos android tablet in past and iPad is so smooth ---> major point7. Overall OS/sandboxing mode is very secure. I trust iPad and iOS far more than Android though I am a fan of open source software. Chances of malware/virus are slimmer than in other non iOS phones/smartphones. ---> major point8. Integrated hardware/OS makes everything looks beautiful9. Diagnostics menu in settings lets you look into code dumps and crash reports. It gives you a sneak peak to how things work inside if you are not a iOS developer10. Smartcover design is genius11. Kids just get it. My 3rd grade daughter started using without even thinking it as a computer. I realized what ubiquitous computing meant. It just comes naturally to kids who have no fear and want to get their work done whether to make cakes using cake doodle, play ping pong, paint the screen or read books/take pictures/modify the photos. They for a second don't think it is a computer, It should do everything.12. I have not tried 4G yet. I will use while travelling only but will use GPS frequently13. Camera is awesome in this iPad. You see pictures in big clear screen. If you print you may print in 4x6, so your print is smaller than what you see, just the reverse of norm. iPhoto is terrific.14. Video quality looks great for shooting indoors. I don't think I will shoot outdoors in a beach with this.15. Having SD card adapter/camera connector is a big plus for me.16. I won't go into the basics, browsing/email/notepad/ etc. There is nothing more for me to say about them. You will reinvent browsing with this device.17. I will keep adding some apps I keep using on this - Notetaker HD, tweetbot, pogoplug, navigon, kindle (retina support), flipboard, dictionary, iPhoto, google, Amazon, lastpass, iTunes U (great app), Onenote, Zite, Google earth, ABC Player, Google currents, Solarwalk.Current trend for me seem to be start day with smartphone, day with laptops, nights/weekends on iPads!

My iPad 2 started to have memory issues when running more than one app or many browser tabs at the same time. I was hoping to use my iPad 2 for 2 years and get the iPad 4. I decided to try the newest android tablet the Samsung note 10.1. I experienced many issues on it and in the end I missed the usability, reliability and apps of my iPad 2. I decided to get the iPad 3 and am very happy with it so far. It is more expensive and has less features than the Samsung note 10. But it is still the best tablet on the market hands down. The iPad is really easy to use, has a huge app market for tablets, good support, good build quality, lots of accessories, retina display and air play. When I first read about the iPad 3's retina display I thought it was a gimmick. After owning and using it I do see the difference with the screen. Since I spend a huge amount of time on my iPad 3 (mostly reading) it makes sense to get a better screen. They say it's suppose to be better on your eyes even if you have bad eye sleight. I also see the difference when watching videos or viewing pictures. In terms of speed I don't really notice the difference from my iPad 2. The extra ram is probably the main thing I've benefited from by getting the iPad 3. I do wish apple would improve the speakers on the iPad by making them stereo and not down facing. That's once thing I miss from the Samsung note 10. The samsung note 10 also had the ability to do real multitasking not the seudo stuff apple does. The note 10 could also run apps simultaneously side by side. These are things apple could do to improve their tablet even more. Although the iPad 3 is only slightly heavier and thicker than the iPad 2, I still notice the difference. I know that apple had to put a larger battery to power the higher resolution screen, LTE and processor. I just think its unlike apple to release a product that is heavier, thicker and offers less battery life than it's predecessor. I haven't updated to iOS 6 yet as I heard it slows down the device, gets rid of YouTube/google maps and wifi issues. I am waiting for an update and also a jailbreak for ios 6. I am looking forward to Siri for the iPad 3, browser enhancements, email enhancements and Facebook integration. In the end apple won me over with air play since I own 2 apple tv 2's. No other tablet or mobile device anything like air play or as easy to use as AirPlay.Early November 2012 update: Well Apple screwed us iPad 3 owners by releasing a new iPad just 6 months after this one. The iPad 4 has a faster A6X chip, dual channel bonding wifi, a hd front camera and lightning connector. The new chip is suppose to make the iPad 4 twice as fast as the iPad 3. The dual channel bonding will make wifi connectivity twice as fast when connected to a n network support router. The lightning connector is suppose to charge the ipad 4 about 45 minutes quicker than the previous version. Personally I wanted an iPad that was thinner, lighter, had more ram and stereo speakers. Do yourself a favor dont buy the Ipad 4. Wait for the iPAd 5 which will most probably be thinner, lighter, stereo speakers and more ram and look like the ipad mini. In my case I was within 3 weeks. The apple store let me return mine for a full refund. I came home and placed an order for a iPad 3 refurb. I got my refurb wifi 64gb for only $550. Which is a great deal. I really dont know why Apple couldnt have waited a few more months for a newer version. Who knows maybe Apple will release a new iPAd in march or april again. The only reason to get an ipad 4 is if you do alot of gaming, photo editing or video editing otherwise your not really going to notice the difference or be worth your while. Save your money and get the ipad 3 refurb or just wait until the ipad 5.

(Note: when I ordered this product, the title did not include the text "3rd generation". the model number MD329LL/A is a fourth generation iPad (iPad with Retina display) as the technical specs make clear.)Important! a 4th generation iPad has a narrow "Lightning" connector with 4 pins, not the 31 pin connector of older iPads. This is the only obvious *external* difference between a 4th generation iPad and earlier models! The other differences, like the "Retina Display", resolution of cameras, and speed of the CPU, are less obvious. There are no markings on the outside of the box that would let you tell the difference between third and fourth generation iPads (e.g. no "third generation" or "Retina Display").If you have an iPad, the best way to tell which one you have is by looking at the model number displayed by the iPad software under Settings --> General. Or look up the model number, written on the (physcial) back of your iPad, at [...] (Amazon won't let me include the URL, but a google search on "Identifying iPad models - Support - Apple" will turn it up as the first entry at Apple support.)Anyway, here's my story:I tried to order this product, a 4th generation iPad (with Retina display) from two different sellers, but received 3rd generation iPads both times. I'm giving this one star because of the ordering problems, not the product (I hope that folks are more likely to read this if I put it down as a negative review rather than a positive one). The fist seller, "IMG Direct", sent me an obviously used 3rd generation iPad in the box of a 4th generation iPad. The order was fulfilled by Amazon. Amazingly, Amazon took the blame for this as a "packaging error" and voided my 2 star rating for the IMG Direct on the grounds that it was Amazon's fault(!). I strongly suspect it was IMG Direct that supplied Amazon with the re-marked product. The second seller, "Wirelessnow", sent me a new 3rd generation iPad with the box relabelled to appear to be a 4th generation iPad. At least it was a *new* 3rd generation iPad! (I'm planning to upload a picture of the remarked box.)I'm going to make my third attempt to order a 4th generation iPad, but this time the order will be direct with Apple!Looking through the reviews of a number of sellers, including "IMG Direct" and "Wirelessnow", i see a pattern where customers complain that they were shipped the wrong item and give a 1 star review. Amazon then apologizes for the mistake and voids the review (the review remains readable but the 1 star score doesn't seem to count against the seller's rating!).This behavior is not limited to my two sellers -- its true of some other sellers as well!I'm going to speculate that Amazon actually pays the seller the ~$600 price for the mis-labelled item based on their "failure to fulfill it properly", so that this is a win-win situation for the seller. If the customer doesn't notice they've been shipped a cheaper product, the seller pockets the profits. If the seller does notice and complains, Amazon takes the blame as a "fulfillment error" and gives the seller most or all of the original list price. If my speculation is correct and you're a seller, this is great! Its a win-win situation. Either the customer misses the substitution and you collect $100 or $200 more than the shipped product is worth, or the customer catches the substitution and Amazon takes the blame -- and you're still laughing all the way to the bank! But I don't see why Amazon wouldn't wise up to the scam!Just my $0.02 -- YMMV (Your Milage May Vary).

First off this is my very first Apple product, except a first gen iPod nano. I got the iPad mini because I needed a device to be used for school work. I needed something portable, great battery life, and functional. I was going to get another laptop after mine took a coffee bath but decided to go with the iPad mini because I was able to get it through AT&T for only $20 a month so I didn't have to shell out a huge chunk of change. And I get have internet pretty much everywhere I go and don't have to worry about connecting to wifi just to do some web browsing. The iPad mini works great for me because I have a lot of down time between shifts at work. My shifts are only about two hours, but I'll have 3 or 4 shifts a day and sometimes 30 minutes to an hour downtime between each so I get to cram in school work between. It's super portable, I just throw it in my backpack and because of the battery life I just leave the charge cable at home. No ned to lug around a clunky laptop. With a keyboard this really has replaced my laptop, there is some trade offs. I don't have a mouse and getting used to apple software and its limitations. But for youtubing, writing and web browsing it is great.I don't like the App Store, I feel the apps on there are trying to nickel and dime you for every last penny. You really need to watch what you buy and make sure it is what you are paying for. The first night I had it I paid 5 bucks for a word processor (silly me) that I thought was Microsoft word it turned out to be just a bunch of tutorial videos. The games are even worse, the free to play games want you to pay for everything. There are good games and apps but its hard to find them because of all the crap in the App Store. There are thousands of bad apps for every good one. I would give this a 5 star if the App Store wasn't so crappy, apple needs better content curation.Despite the App Store and the software limitations I was able to accept a few trade offs for the great battery life and portability.

I was slow to justify the cost of an iPad and despite being a long time fan of Macs, didn't really see the need for one. I found myself in a job where I am on very remote locations with quite a bit of downtime and finally decided that I could use one.I have been absolutely thrilled with this device. It is extremely stable, even with the new iOS 7 operating system. I am very happy that I chose the Retina model, because the screen is basically perfect. For everything from web browsing to watching Netflix, the quality of video and images is second to none.App performance on the iPad Retina is superb, and many of the iPad specific apps are simply mind-blowing, particularly some of the art apps like Sketchbook Pro and Procreate. I recently acquired an Adonit Jot 4, which is a pressure sensitive stylus that connects via Bluetooth, and it works like something out of the future. Just crazy good. For forum participation, writing Amazon reviews, etc., I prefer my laptop simply because I don't like typing on a touchscreen, but that's just my personal preference. I can get around on the touchscreen and if I really wanted a physical keyboard, there are several available. But that's not really what the iPad is all about. It's not there to replace your computer; it's a different type of device that excels at browsing and media consumption and is portable in a way that no laptop is.Though it takes a bit longer than I would like to take a full charge, the battery life is excellent, and I rarely find myself needing to charge when I am out and about. As a media consumption / web browsing device, the iPad Retina is ideal. The screen is so amazing that it is generally preferable to me over a larger computer or laptop screen for these purposes. I take a star off of my rating because USB connectivity would be REALLY helpful for those who would like to watch movies that they have stored on an external drive. There really is no reason that the iPad shouldn't have USB.I love my iPad, and it is so usable in this current configuration that I don't see myself having to replace it with the latest and greatest for many years.

On the plus side the IPad has a fast charge time, long battery life, good Wi-Fi, a robust cpu, and an excellent display. That said, it's not without some flaws and annoyances. Foremost, there's no consistent method to back navigate. Perhaps, this was one of those cases where design overrules function; in order to keep the device looking elegant they sacrificed functionality. The result is confusion and inconsistency. In some cases you find yourself navigating back via the app itself; however sometimes you need to use the home function or start swiping. For example, at one point I opened a PDF that was attached to an email but then I could not easily find a way to close the PDF to return to the inbox. There's no consistency as to where the back function is to be found or what it may be called. Often you are forced to make reaches across the screen whereas if there was one consistent placement for a back function you always know where it is. The same is true for getting a list of apps running in the background. You are forced to use a awkward four finger up motion. Why not just give us a consistent button for a list of running apps? I found the need to use 4 finger swipes annoying.. Another missing function is the cancel key. If you accidentally start to download a huge file and want to abort - where's the key to stop the download? The app store is annoying as you can't search for apps in ways of your choosing. Why not offer advanced search that would give you some options to sort and filter? Another issue I have with the device is its dependence on iTunes. Certain files cannot be removed from the device unless you are on iTunes, really? Why? I should be able to delete files off my device. I'm assuming there's an app for doing that but really - why not just make that part of the OS? Speaking of what's not included - why not include a free calculator? Do I really need to shop for a basic calculator? The native Maps app is a work in progress with many roads or local features not labeled correctly. If you want to hook this device to a camera you need to purchase a special adapter but check the reviews for the adapter as many users are reporting it no longer works after the latest OS update. There's no easy way to manage your cookies in safari. In advanced setting you can either delete all cookie data or none. It has a very nice display however I refuse to adopt Apple marketing speak and call it "retina" display. Don't bother thinking you'll be able to send anything to your printer unless of course you have a specific "air" printer that will work with the Apple iOS. I could go on but hopefully you get the point that this device has both strong and weak points.

I've had Apple products before, and I've been considering an iPad. I finally took the leap.Admittedly, when I first got it, it felt like a luxurious toy -- and perhaps it is. I kept saying to myself, "my Macbook can do this" or, "Do I really need this app?"But finally, what it boiled down to was that I was having so much fun with my new iPad. It was a mixture of both practical, functional apps and wonderfully fun apps. I concentrated on free apps and already have so many good ones downloaded. I have books and magazines to read, including audiobooks which can be read to me before I fall asleep, and apps to help me with things like finding yard sales in my neighborhood or Manga Storm, which is marvelous for reading manga on the iPad. There's Glympse, which lets everyone know where you are at any given moment. This may be the Wi-Fi version, but in my city it has its advantages. My ISP is providing free Wi-Fi hotspots for its customers around the city, and is adding more all the time. I imagine other ISPs will follow suit. Wi-Fi may soon be in competition with 3G and 4G. It sounds far-fetched, but at least in my city, it isn't, although a few years ago it would have been. So I can get connected in a lot more places for free, which is nice.I'm very impressed with everything about the iPad, from the display to the controls to the sound. I don't have an iPad 2 or an original iPad to compare it to, as this is my first one. All I can say is that I am very happy with mine.I got a beautiful case for it that I just love: the Osaki iCoat Slim Y+ Hard Case and Cover for The New iPad and the iPad 2. It fits both the new iPad and the iPad 2. What I love is that the front of the case is like a Smart Cover, except that it does both portrait and landscape modes. The front cover attaches not to your iPad, however: instead, it attaches to the back case. I also got a nifty little stand, the Arkon Portable Fold-Up Stand for Apple iPad, Galaxy Tab, BlackBerry Play Book. It works great in both portrait and landscape mode and is great for charging.I also want to say a word about screen brightness, since some people have mentioned about the iPad overheating. I was worried about this prior to getting mine. Yes, if you have a bare iPad and you run a game or a very graphic intensive app, the iPad may get a little warm. However I have found that most of the time, the brightness level that the iPad is set on, which is around 50%, is fine for me. There have been a few times when I have raised it to 75%, and there have also been a few times when I have lowered it to 25%. But mostly I keep it at 50%. I keep my Macbook's screen at 100% brightness. So I like a bright screen. But the 50% brightness on the iPad is really bright to me. The only exception is if there is a game and it has a really dark scene. Then maybe I want to turn up the brightness a bit, or maybe I want to dim the lights in the room. It depends on the game. However, most of the time, people are not going to have a bare iPad if they are thinking about protecting it against dropping it. Usually they will have AppleCare+ or some type of protection plan. Mine went right into my case as soon as I got the case. So with the case on it, I really do not feel any heat. The heat I was mentioning was when I was playing games on it when it was bare, before I got a case for it.Also, if you've never had an iPad, I learned from Apple tech support you can only have 11 pages of apps on the iPad (you can have unlimited apps stored on iTunes or in iCloud). But you can put apps in folders. So at least there is that option! All I can say is, if you've never had an iPad and you're on the fence, this is a beautiful device. I'm extremely happy with mine. The only thing I would wish for is more storage. I got the 64GB but it still feels like for things like photos, videos and movies that I would like more storage. The iPad third generation is amazing: you won't regret your purchase. I'm thrilled with mine.

As an iOS developer, I've owned all 3 generations of iPads. I also own a couple other tablets: a Kindle Fire and an HP Touchpad, so I have some perspective about usability. In terms of general usability in the most situations, an iPad is the way to go, it has the most and best tablet apps, and the best hardware. This release took the solid base of the iPad 2, and added the best screen I have ever seen, a very nice camera and real 4G networking. This review is about whether you should switch from an iPad 2 or possibly even buy the still available iPad 2.First, the negatives. The new screen with 4x the pixels, the 4 core GPU to draw into it, the LTE radio, all three conspired to make Apple put in a much bigger battery, making it heavier--yes you can actually feel the difference--and longer to charge. Because Apple uses an extension of USB to charge at 2.1 Amps, which is unchanged from previous editions, it took me 5 hours 57 minutes to go from 0% to 100% charged using the Apple provided charger, compared to 4 hours 14 minutes with last year's model. As a consequence of using more energy in the same 10+ hour usage, the device can get mildly warmer. While the front facing FaceTime camera is unchanged in quality, it's still dismal especially in low light, you know the kind of light you're likely to have when you are inside thinking about video chatting over Wi-Fi.Because developers will need to replace their bitmap graphics with additional copies that are 4 times the resolution, a Retina display updated app could potentially be 5x larger in the worst case, although that would be unusual. Still, apps will take up more room. This isn't an advantage over the iPad 2, as the iPad 2 will be laden with the same bulked up apps, with no advantage given. Now, on with the positives.Great screen. Really you have to see text on this thing. It's like you are typing into a laser printer. Not only that, but better color reproduction. I did a side by side comparison with my iPad 2, watching a synced up copy of Puss n Boots, the iTunes 1080p copy and the older device had a bit of too much orange in it, just a bit which you wouldn't likely notice without the side by side but glaringly obvious if you did. And 1080p content is spectacular on this display where all 2.1 megapixels can be shown without scaling down.I purchased the Verizon LTE model. This has the advantage that Verizon is allowing personal hotspot tethering, while AT&T is not. I've had tethering on my iPhone and when I've needed it, such as taking my family on vacation with a laptop, the Fire, an iPod Touch and an iPad 2, it's been a Godsend in a Wi-Fi scarce world. The LTE is zippy fast when you can get it, unfortunately that doesn't include my house, where it drops down to Verizon's inferior CDMA network, which is noticeably slower than AT&T's GSM network, but I wasn't going to use it from my house. Put it this way, an iTunes 1080p movie is 2GB max; Verizon charges you $30 for the first 2GB. If you still have an AT&T unlimited plan from your iPad 2, I think you can move it to a new AT&T model, but be careful. This release reputedly comes with double the RAM at 1GB which mainly shows up in the much larger number of tabs you can quickly switch between in Safari, a nice sweetener. The backfacing isight camera is about the specs of the one in the iPhone 4S, excepting being 5 instead of 8 megapixels, which is fantastic, excepting the part about using a 10 inch tablet to take pictures or shoot video. Why couldn't they have put this camera on the front?"Audio to text about comes with this release this is a bit hit or miss and you might be lucky to have a clear and constant voice which allows you to text at your text". As you can see, it doesn't like my voice, but it is a potentially cool feature. So, in the end, I think choosing this over an iPad 2 comes down to whether you love clean text and demand the most beautiful video. If you need faster charging times and want to save money stay with the 2. Next year there will be a new new iPad, with a faster processor, a more efficient LTE chipset, Siri, a decent front facing camera, and whatever else they can think of to part you with your money,

Since other people have written about the specifications and some of the advantages of the iPad tablet which I will not repeat here. I will only say that indeed the iPad works very well and you will be pleased with it. I will also briefly tell you my own story to try another tablet that left me completely unsatisfied and very disappointed: Before trying the IPad with Retina Display, I tried the most recent version of Amazon's tablet, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 4G LTE Wireless with 64G.The most powerful aspect of a tablet (according to my opinion) is its ability to establish a wireless connection. Without it, it is just a useless piece of extra weight someone carries around. And, unfortunately for Amazon, the Kindle's wireless card is not working as it should be. In my home, the tablet was loosing connection with the router continually (even when I was keeping them within 1-2 feet from each other) for unknown reasons. When the connection was on, I opened some simple web pages but the downloading was very slow. Trying to open cnn.com, the downloading was so excruciatingly slow that the tablet went to sleep on its own.... And this happened multiple times, not once. When I took it to an area where, in order to use the net, you must accept the terms and conditions, the connection was made but the browser got confused. The connection was lost and my efforts to reestablish it got fruitless. Although I use computers and other electronic devices on a daily basis and encountering problems is not foreign to me, with the Kindle I got tired and discouraged very quickly and I returned the tablet to Amazon 30 hours after I received it. The experience with the iPad has been completely the opposite. It worked immediately. The connections are relatively fast (often restricted by the lines themselves). There is a tremendous number of apps and work well although some of the free ones are quite annoying since they broadcast so many ads that make their use very irritating. (Incidentally: At the time I am writing this review, Amazon's app for streaming video is not working on the iPad with retina display although it was working for the previous iPad models. One cannot login to his/her prime membership!)Overall, if you are thinking to buy a tablet, I would strongly recommend to buy an iPad. However, think well before you decide. Amazon is great in returns (and I am a very satisfied Prime customer); it will refund your money if you do not like the Kindle. However, Apple has a restocking fee (15% at least; may even vary from store to store); hence you may loose a considerable amount of money if you decide to return the iPad.

I bought the new iPad because of the retina display, it is my first Apple device. The retina display is beautiful, but I found more cons about the device then I found pros. They say once you go mac, you never go back, but I have to admit, I miss my Android tablet. First, let me say that this tablet seems to be built nicely, I have no qualms about the build quality of the device, other than the WiFi seems to be a bit slow. My complaints are about functionality and overall cosmetics. I was surprised to find out that I am unable to add widgets to my home screens without jail-breaking the device, really? This is something that Android users can do, and have been able to do since the dawn of time. Okay, fine, I can get past that. Next, my main email address is a Gmail address. I use my Gmail account to backup all my contacts, as well as send/receive emails. There is a setting on iOS 6 (which I updated to immediately upon turning the device on) that allows you to add a Gmail account. Taking into consideration that the two companies always seem to be at each others' throats, I was happy to see this was possible, however, then I found out that, while I can add my Gmail address and receive emails from my account to the iPad, I can't sync my contacts. May I ask why? In order to sync my Gmail contacts, I had to set up my Gmail account as a Microsoft Exchange account, this is stupid, why can't I just set it up as a Gmail account and automatically sync my contacts without the extra hassle? Now, I haven't really looked, but I assume Apple offers the same kind of service, where you can receive emails, and backup contacts, etc. that I can just switch to, but why should I have to? This device is supposed to be the best tablet available, why can't it do something as simple as syncing my contacts without having to use a work-around? Next, I have an Amazon account, and tons of books I've downloaded through Kindle. I found the Kindle app on the app store, and it works great for reading, then I found out you can't buy books through the app. Really? I have to go to the amazon website through Safari. Well, Apple has iBooks ... okay so to be able to do something as simple as purchasing and downloading e-books through the app itself, I have to re-purchase my entire library? This is ridiculous, in the Android Kindle app, you can do this, so it has to be Apple that for some reason decided they wouldn't allow this functionality with the app available to iOS devices. So, okay, I can get past all that as long as it reliably works right? Wrong. One of the biggest aspects this tablet is built for is gaming. There are great games on the app store, and the iPad is supposed to play them without a problem. So I go to try a game and start playing, after about 15 minutes, the device over-heated and the game crashed. There are other aspects about the iPad that I don't like, there's no HDMI out without having to buy a separate adapter, there's no SD card input (should be available on every tablet ever), I would've like to see an I/R blaster, but it seems only Samsung and Sony think that's a good idea, but these are my main complaints about the device. So, here I am, I like the iPad, but I find myself more often wishing I'd gone with a new Android tablet, and that's why I can't give the iPad 5 stars. And if you're an Android user looking to give the iPad a shot, like I was, all I can say is buyer beware.

I must start by informing you that I have been an Android fan since smart phones started coming around main stream. And I will also say that as a smart phone user, I will likely never leave the Android market. When it comes to tablets though, Apple has this race won by a long shot. Most people against Apple products complain about not having widgets, or about being "stuck into one persons way of thinking" with Apple's designs. Not having the customization options and whatnot.I was originally the same way, first purchasing the Nook HD+, and then exchanging it for the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Inch. Both of these do not stand up to the iPad.The processor in this new iPad is SO fast, the games that would use that processing speed have not even been built yet. The screen resolution looks more amazing than some games on my 1080P screen when playing X360.This device has changed the way I work, and the way I live. I have a mobile hotspot on my phone now, so I have this powerful device ready to go anywhere I go. Processing my workload is a breeze since my workstation now goes with me in my bag. What is also great is that SO many apps link between both iOS and Android. So I can update a spreadsheet on my iPad, and review it later from my phone if needed. Skype is also wonderful, which has allowed me to connect with my father in ways that have not been possible for years due to the distance between us.There is no memory slot, so I purchased the 32GB. I do not download music or movies, so the space is only for apps, photos, etc.I am a heavy Netflix and Amazon Prime user, so I watch shows on this every day. There are also TONS of free games with incredible graphics for you to enjoy. All in all, this is easily one of the most profitable purchases and investments that I have ever made. I am now a huge Apple fan and I am extremely excited to watch their products develop. If you have ever considered going Apple, but thought against it because you are an Android lover, stop right here. Just make the purchase, and try it out for a week or so. If you hate it, return it, but I do not see that happening. This is my most recommended product to all friends and family that are interested in advanced progressive technology, or who want a simple and powerful device to use instead of a bulkier, slower, and less convenient computer/laptop.

Lets face it, you buy Apple products at their ridiculously high price because it's a quality item. Safari is an wasting Internet browser to use and, while you can't customize settings as much as a laptop computer, it has excellent malware protection and is set up very conveniently for the casual browser. It's a good weight too. While shopping for my tablet, I've looked at and held many other brands. A common problem (for me) is that a lot of them felt too light for their size. This is probably because apple uses aluminum for the back cover of their tablet instead of plastic. It feels sturdy, and that's a good thing when it comes to durability. Another excellent apple quality? The apps! I know, other tablets have apps too, but apple has kind of cornered the market on app production. Most of what you can find on an android or kindle tablet, you can find in the apple store (and then some). See an app not available through apple? Probably a good thing! I've learned that Apple screens all of their apps before putting it up in the store. This means that there are no major malware problems. There are some disadvantages of course: 1- you have to buy directly from apple as they do have monopoly on their stuff and a lot of imitation items are suspect (this can get pricey), 2- you can't really open two screens the way you can simultaneously on other devices. This is not to say that you can't have two (or more) things running at once, but you have to switch entirely between them and can't view both on the screen at once. 3- there are many conveniently pre-downloaded onto other tablets that are very useful for students and office work. You can get a lot of those same apps through the apple store, but many of the better ones are not free and you have to pick and choose your way through quite a few applications. There are probably more then 3, but these are the ones that stood out to me. Overall though, PROs totally outweigh the CONs, making this tablet just plain awesome! (So awesome that my best friend saved started saving up for one right after mine came in the mail.)

I have 2 iPads previously and so when time came to buy another, iPad was the top contender, but given the rising popularity of Microsoft Surface and Samsung Galaxy tab, I decided to try those out. MS Surface won hands down in my experience.First off, you can actually run more than one website on the Surface. If playing a Youtube video on the Surface and at the same time briefly browsing a different website, the Youtube video continues to play. Not so on the iPad. The video stops the momemt you browse to another website even in a different tab.Secondly, as far as Youtube is concerns the Surface version runs all videos like a full blown laptop. The iPad version runs only a subset of the videos and tells you to play the others on a computer.Thirdly, the Surface has a built in stand. No need to buy a cover stand separately.Fourth, even when not using the stand, the Surface is much easier to hold in the hand - slips much less than the iPad.I like the Surface user interface for switching from one browser tab to another better than the iPad. Not sure if that's a definite win for everyone since some folks may prefer the IPad.Not to mention the Surface is about half the price. True, iOS has more apps, but for all the apps I use (Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, Youtube, Skype, WhatsApp, email, browser, Yelp, and some travel related apps), both have all the apps needed. In fact the Surface has more Office apps for those who care about Powerpoint and Word.

This is a very nice tablet. The screen is very clear and detailed.I have a Kindle Fire, so will compare that to the Ipad3. I know they are priced much differently, but I have a Kindle and was questioning if the Ipad3 was a good upgrade.First the obvious:Apple has a bigger screen.IOS vs AndroidMain menus:The IPAD main menu scrolls smoother between screens and when opening applications. The Kindle default Amazon interface is kind of lame and too simple, however I use a side loaded app called Go Launcher on the Kindle.Go Launcher has onscreen buttons for home and back (which is the same type of interface on an Android). With the Ipad you have to press the hard button over to the side to go back to the home menu.On screen buttons like with Go Launcher are nice, example... if I am in email then open a url this will open up the web browser. When I want to return back to that email I simply just press the onscreen back button while in web browser and this will take me back to the email I was just looking at.With the Ipad if you are in email and press on a url the web browser opens as normal, but you have to press the hard button to get out of the browser and back to the app menu, and then press the email app. This seems kind of redundant to me. Another option with the Ipad3 is you can hit the home button twice to access your open apps and press the email program. The Android onscreen navigation buttons are more intuitive for this purpose.Screen:The Kindle Fire screen looks very good but looking closely (12 inches away) I can still see the pixelation on smaller pictures. The Ipad Retina is for sure more clear and sharp. The pictures are more vivid and detailed. Text looks much sharper.Internet:Ipad3 web browsing is faster than the Kindle but there are still some occasional delays when scrolling down a webpage on the Ipad, but much less than the Kindle Fire. Using the Safari browser is more responsive. The larger screen on the IPAD3 is way nicer for web browsing. With the Kindle Fire there is a lot more side scrolling going on and moving around the screen to browse the web.The onscreen keyboard:Ipad is very responsive and I don't feel like I have to guess if the onscreen key I hit was registered. The Kindle was not as responsive. While the onscreen keyboard is good, there times when the Kindle just seems to hiccup and not register an onscreen key.Email:The Ipad built in email integrates with my MS Live account. The Kindle built in email doesn't work with MS Live, you have to get a different program which really sometimes does not pull up new email and the navigation is clunky.Music streaming:Pandora Radio works fine on both. The Ipad has one speaker, and the Kindle has two for stereo affect. The Kindle sound is very good for the price, but when tilted horizontally the speakers are on the left side and one of the speakers gets covered up when held up. I think the Ipad3 sound is better, however the speaker faces away so the sound can be distant when propped up.Video streaming:Netflix on the Ipad3 is way better; the movies look clear and stream in HD. The Kindle movies look blotchy and appear to be playing at a lower resolution.Google maps and locationing:Kindle Fire has no location positioning for locationing apps. The Ipad3, has no GPS, but can still use wireless positioning to locate the Ipad location like in Google Maps._____________So the Ipad3 is way better than the Kindle, surprise!! My only gripe is there are no onscreen navigation buttons to jump to other applications. Pressing the hard button is not a big issue, but I rather only use that button sparingly.I like the Ipad3 for most tasks including email, browsing the web, streaming movies.I like the Kindle Fire for compact use and I prefer the smaller size for traveling lightly.

I bought this ipad for my wife and son to use. It is the first apple product to hit our home since the iphone 3 failure we had a few years back. So we got the ipad last night and proceeded to set it up. Everything was fine until we tried to use it. The first app we used caused the ipad to restart. So we tried again. Again 1 min into use and it restarted again. We thought, oh, maybe this thing cant download apps and use them at the same time. If that were the case I would return it for sure and not buy another because that is just ridiculous. Luckily that was not the case. The third time we tried an app we had nothing downloading, updating or anything, and it restarted again. I went to apples site to try to talk to someone about it and when I entered the serial number the site said it was out of warranty and no tech support could be used. That told me that there was an error or I was just sold a used ipad. Since amazon doesn't print the serial numbers on the receipt there is no was for me to prove I bought the ipad that same day. I then spoke to amazon about this and they said since I bought it thru a marketplace person we couldn't exchange it but had to return and buy it over. I thought fine...I will go and do that. Well, while I was on the phone the ipad timed out and went to sleep, but it wouldn't wake back up. So I called apple this morning and spoke to them about it. They told me it is possible the item was used before but there is no way for them to find out. They had me do a hard restart which made it possible for the ipad to turn on again but about 5 min after I hung up with the guy it turned off again and wouldn't turn back on. So I made my mind up. I hard restarted the thing, wiped it clean, and will mail it back Monday. Meanwhile, later today I will go to the apple store and buy one from them, brand new, with warranty. I figure this is apples 2nd strike against me. The only 2 apple items I have own were both defective, so either I have the worst possible luck or apple has fairly low quality standards. If I get a third defective product from them its over.Lesson here....check the serial number on apples site as soon as you get your item.

The 8in Apple iPad Mini was eagerly anticipated, but the new 10in iPad 4 (or iPad with Retina Display as Apple insists on calling it) is a surprise as it arrives only nine months after its predecessor the iPad 3.Externally, the iPad 4 looks and feels identical to its predecessor. Although it is sturdy and slim, it's still the same weight at around 650g. I had hoped for a reduction in weight since the iPad 3 was around 50g heavier than the iPad 2. The battery lasted 12 hours when I was playing videos matching the time achieved by the smaller iPad Mini. The 10in screen still has the same 2,048x1,536 pixel resolution. It's very sharp and bright with exceptional image quality, especially when compared to lower resolution tablets like the iPad Mini. Only the upcoming Samsung Nexus 10 Android tablet will have a display potentially capable of matching it.All the changes are on the inside rather than the outside. The A6X dual-core processor is twice as fast as the iPad 3's A5X chip, but this will make little real difference until apps are designed to take advantage of it. Apple will doubtless release features in future versions of iOS that will only run on the A6X, but that has yet to happen. The iPad 4 is thankfully compatible with the recently launched EE LTE network.HD FacetimeI was pleased with Video chatting and that the front-facing camera now records in 720p resolution which gave better, more accurate-looking video although the speed of my broadband connection did also affect image quality. The iPad 4 may be a modest upgrade over its predecessor but it's still the best 10in tablet so far, which says just as much about the competition as it does about Apple's tablet. I thought I would love the iPad, but I don't even like it at this point. I love my sister's iPad, my son's and others', but mine won't stay connected to wifi. I tried to troubleshoot using Apple's website, called AppleCare several times, and ultimately sent the iPad to AppleCare for repair. But my iPad still doesn't work. In the same locations that my iPad is nonfunctional, I can use my sister's iPad (she has the iPad w/retina display, too, and I set hers up the same as mine) with no wifi connectivity issues. But every time I try to access the internet, I get the message that my iPad is not connected to the internet. I go to settings, select the wifi connection, and if it connects at all, it's only briefly. This happens not just with my home router, but at my place of employment and other wifi access public places (where other iPad users report no difficulty and I have no problems with my laptop, etc.). The AppleCare folks sent my iPad back in 2 days (fast service but the porblem is not solved) with a form letter that states my iPad meets Apple's specifications for acceptable performance. Unfortunately, it doesn't meet my standards. I have a $700+ lemon. I know the Apple iPad is amazing when it works (and it usually works, according to the vast majority of reviews). If Apple replaces this lemon with an iPad that actually works, I will update my review accordingly.Update-1/13/13: I spoke with AppleCare again and was instructed to send the iPad back for maintenance--this will be the second time. Why should I expect it to work this time? What a a waste of time! Another week+ without a functional iPad. If the problem persists after this encounter with AppleCare, I was told the iPad would be replaced. I am becoming more disillusioned with Apple. I have had experience with other iPads and know they can be wonderful when they work, so I would not advise against buying this iPad. But purchase with the knowledge that there is a significant problem with wifi connectivity attested to by many consumers on Apple's own discussion forum. I'm thoroughly frustrated with this lemon and my experience with AppleCare!Update-1/28/13: After a few returns for maintenance without improvement in performance, Apple replaced my new iPad with a refurbished one. It connects to the internet, but is slow. I've updated my router, called my wifi provider, and it's still the same. If I could, I would return this one. One of the big selling points of the iPad is the ease of use and mine has been anything but easy to use with this wifi connectivity issue. Another big selling point is the fast connection speed--not so for me. I would have been far happier with a netbook and completely regret this purchase.

I really like this product. I was debating between the iPad with Retina display, and the Kindle Fire. I tested both, before purchasing the Apple product. I found the Kindle Fire very difficult to use and navigate through. While the iPad is VER Y user friendly. It has very easily downloadable Apps. Very easy to navigate from one App to the other. It has very sharp resolution. In fact, I really could not discern any really noticeable difference in resolution between the iPad and the Kindle Fire. I am sure that professionals, with an "eye to detail", might possibly notice a difference, but for "every day joes", like me, the iPad is perfectly fine. Price wise, I got a good deal on the iPad I purchased. I was only going to purchase a 32GB, but, as I was researching and debating, I just happened to find the 126GB for about the same price as the 32GB. So, don't be impatient, wait, search, and let Amazon get you a really good product at the best price.

I own an iPad because it has business apps I use that are best used with a touch screen. One pros side, there's not much I can add to what's already been said. It is great and I'm glad I upgraded from an iPad 2 to iPad 4.But I'm deducting one star for the following reasons:Apple wants to upsell you from the iPad 2 to the iPad 4 mostly on this criteria:1) Siri. There's nothing revolutionary about it. For most it's answers it just spits out Google search results and then you do the rest. People are fascinated by it because it throws a few human-like colloquialisms.2) Retina display. I upgraded from an iPad 2. To quite frank, things do no all of a sudden jump out at you in iPad 4. Yes, I do like it. And it's very nice to be sure. But the Retina Display is just a name someone dreamed up that makes it sound more innovative than it actually us. High resolution is everywhere. It's just that Apple give it a snazzy name and suddenly, it's like the a new invention.3) "A6 is 2x faster than A5" Huh? Reality check. This one is probably where I feel people are misled the most. To me the A5 is noticeably faster and that's nice. But in real life "twice as fast" means 50 mpg vs 25 mph. Or flying from L.A. to Hong Kong in 8 hours instead of 16. To me the speed difference is more like flying from L.A. to Hong Kong in 14 hours instead of 16.All in all, there a lot of hype that used to make the iPad 4 sound like a quantum leap rather than the incremental improvement that it is. Thus we pay more for it.That said, I like it a lot, but mainly for the reasons that people have liked the iPad ever Steve Job unveiled on that big screen behind him...not because of these minor improvements.

I've tested this device extensively in the local Apple store, and there's no doubt in my mind that it's the best version of iPad to date. For this it deserves 5 stars. As an owner of the "New iPad, aka iPad 3rd generation," however, I feel that Apple did an injustice to those who purchased it.The previous version was released to much fan fair in March 2012. This version was released a mere 7 months later, in October 2012. When I called Apple to find out why they would release a newer version so soon after the previous one, the representative who I spoke with informed me that there were problems with the 3rd generation, and as a result, Apple removed it from the market and introduced the generation 4.I have no problem with the fact that technology constantly changes, and that computers are outdated in short order. What I have a problem with, is the fact that Apple prematurely introduced the 3rd generation of the iPad knowing full well that it wasn't ready to be sold. While Tim Cook was onstage last March promoting the 3rd generation of the iPad as the most revolutionary product ever offered by Apple, he knew that it was just a stop-gap measure until the components were ready for the model that you see here.I love Apple products and have always thought that the company treated their customers in the highest regard. As a result of the above, I now feel differently about the company, not the products. As of this writing, Apple sells the iPad 2 and the iPad with Retina Display, aka the 4th generation. They do not sell the 3rd generation at all, as the one listed here is what the 3rd generation was supposed to be. I feel that this is very deceptive on the part of Apple and believe that owners of the now obsolete 3rd generation model should be given the option, for a fee to upgrade to the model presented here. I spoke with customer relations at Apple regarding the above and was told that this would not be an option. They readily agreed that there were "issues," with the 3rd generation model, but refused to tell me what they are. In this regard, they are certainly not being very transparent to their loyal customers. So, the bottom line is that the iPad with Retina Display is a marvelous device, however owners of the previous generation got screwed. I'm giving the model presented here 5 stars, because that's what it deserves. On the other hand, if I had the option to grant stars to the way Apple treated owners of the previous version, I would give them just 1 star.

From an Android based perspective, this device will get a 4-star if not 3-star for many reasons. While loyal Apple fans or people who want to use the basic apps but appreciate its design you'll likely give it a 5-star. So I had to go with the 4-star to be fair.Where the iPad 3 shines:- Gorgeous screen; not much complaint here as watching HD movies including Netflix and YouTube video is amazing- Thin & lightweight; for its size, it's not too big of a hassle to carry around- Beautiful design overall; Apple pretty much set a standard for today's tablets and they still keep simplicity in a beautiful design- Simple; you don't need to know how to use Apple products, great for kids and adults that aren't exactly tech savvy- Amazing battery life; I could play Minecraft for hours and don't eat up batteries like other tablets do- Very responsive; for the most part depending on the app. Rarely freezes (yes, it still does freeze from time to time) and is fast enough to run any HD games and apps.Where iPad 3 doesn't impress:- No flash. Flash enabled sites either need a flash compatible browser if not you cannot view the content.- No GPS for the Wifi version; this would annoy you if you're looking to use it for navigation (you'll need separate GPS module made by another company that cost at least $100)- Slow charging; with the wall charger it comes, it does charge very slow. The only negative side of the longer lasting tablet- Keyboard is not intuitive; difficult to type in landscape mode, no swype or other after-market keyboard like Android has- Expensive; for the money you'd think you'll get more out of the unit- Screen size icons; for the massive screen, you don't have a way to cram more icons forcing you to either create folders within or use multiple screens.- Many apps that are free on Android market often times are not free on Apple Stores.- Proprietary plugs; when will Apple learn? No HDMI, mini-USB, etc.I personally recommend the iPad Wifi version for:- General entertainment for games, movies and news reading + where Wifi is available- Children; easy to navigate and use- Don't care about GPS navigation or use it for related purpose- Are not tech savvy or don't mind not having flash options- Want something simple and reliable- Want long battery lifeI don't recommend the iPad Wifi version if you:- Want to use this in the car, boat or wherever you need a GPS for navigation and plotting- Want to do any sort of modification including custom ROM's- Need flexibility in terms of the O/S- Are looking for cost savings and best bang for your moneyPersonally I'm more of an Android guy than Apple guy but it doesn't mean Apple's products are bad either. It's one beautiful tablet I've ever played around with (it's my wife's) and aside from it not having GPS and other features available on Android, it's a solid performer. On a personal note, if they come out with a 7" tablet I wouldn't mind owning one. Especially if it had GPS even on the Wifi version I'd buy one in a heartbeat. To me, the pro's outweigh the con's for the iPad 3. For as long as I can remember I've been a PC-guy where I didn't care for Apple but ever since iPod's came out, they've really changed the computer industry. You won't regret your purchase either way. Just take note of what's not on the device and what to expect.

Buying a first generation anything Apple is always a little risky. I usually wait for the "S" model phones to come out, personally. This is a great iPad. The retina display is mind glowingly sharp. Games? Unbelievable. Movies? DONE. Laptop replacement? Pretty much!It is the last 30-pin model, so if you're all iPhone 5 and 5S with the lightning connector, don't throw out your 30 pin cables yet!Only legit complaint about this dude is the charging time. This thing takes literally 8 hours to get a full charge. EIGHT. HOURS. A little absurd. But it's the first retina display iPad! And it can get a little warm when playing a graphic intensive game. But, stick it in a case and you won't notice.Overall, great buy! I kept checking the "used" section on Amazon until I found a perfect condition, used-like new 16GB iPad 3 being sold for under $300. Not a scratch on it. SCORE!

This was my first and last Apple product. It works wonderfully, the screen is beautiful and the apps perform almost flawlessly. What I dislike was 97 days after I bought it they came out with a new model that made mine obsolete instantly. Seven months later the same thing happened and now mine was 2 generations old in les than 10 months. I am not against implementing new advances but Apple knew way before I bought mine that I was buying something that would be obsolete in 11 months and they sold it to me at full price. I can hear their CFO saying: 'another sucker we took money from with an obsolete product sold as if it was the top of the line'. I expect better of the companies I buy expensive hardware from, that if they know what is going to happen just start discounting the current - but soon to be obsolete product - so the CUSTOMERS would stay loyal. They had me and they lost me. Good luck to them with their bait and switch way of doing business.

First no support for Flash. This is a huge problem. How can you not support this? Is it being fazed out, yes, but not for a long time. The lack of Flash hurts a lot of the websites I have tried to go to.Next, their new maps support. These maps are terrible. Why kick the company to the curb that has already done all the work, put all the money needed into it, and is proven itself. Why? Apple has gotten a big head again, and believes that whatever it makes it just has to be better.Touch sensitivity: I used my friends iPad 2 for awhile after he upgraded to the iPad 3. He told me I had to try the new version. The touch sensitivity seems to be off. It does not have the response of the iPad 2, Samsung Tab, or even a Kindle I used to have.Retina display failure: I see no difference between the iPad 2 and the new iPad. If you are looking at upgrading to the new one for its display don't. There is nothing special about it. It is just a numbers game.Must use iTunes: iTunes is one of the main reasons I will never own an Apple product. This software is awful. I cannot believe they have not made it easier to use. If you want to buy all your stuff through apple then yes, oh yes they make it easier. But what if you are not brain wasted by apple and you want to use Amazon to get your music for a better price? Not so easy to get it on the iPad. The software is a joke.No support for other video formats. This device unlike all its competitors has said no to supporting standardized formats. If you are buying this device and wanting to transfer your current videos to it, don't. It will only support the apple format.Your apple ID: This is nearly the worst part of the iPad itself. You cannot do anything on the iPad without this ID. It is terrible, and if you forget your security questions you will need a crack team that can get into Fort Knox to get back in. Why are these questions so important? Well it took me over a month to help my mother fully get back into her apple ID because if you upgrade to a new apple product and you do not know those questions? Good Luck! You may never get back in. And if you have spent a lot of money in iTunes it could be lost. BEWARE: write down your security questions. So much for ease of use. I have had in the past year family come up saying with a big smile I just got the iPad. I tell them good luck with that. They go off and "play" with it for awhile. Then they come back and ask how to you download apps, how do you transfer music, how can you put DVD's I already own on it, how can I view this website it says flash not installed, and the list goes on. It took only about a month for one family member to ask me what is this good for then?I then smiled.I stand by my word. It is an overpriced toy.

As my title says I'm an Android man, this is my first iOS device. There probably isn't much to be said that hasn't already been covered by more experienced users, so I'll be brief. I bought this with the idea to use it for a few months and then give it to my wife who's been asking for one for awhile. I was planning to get an Asus Transformer for myself. Having used this for a month so far, I now find myself on the fence...while I love the customizable features of android (usually root my devices and load custom ROMS), the ease of use and final polish of this pad is phenomenal. I like the screen, the size and I think I might actually prefer the 4:3 screen ratio to the widescreen of the asus, as it means less scrolling when browsing the web in landscape mode.Ultimately, the new iPad is undeniably a 5 star device regardless what we of the Android community spew against it. So if you like iOS, or want THE tablet all other tablets are judged by, you should probably buy this one. As for me, I'll continue hemming and hawing, for the next couple months while I use this iPad (much to my wife's distress) while I continue trying to decide if I really want to abandon my beloved android.***Update***So my wife and I have been using it consistently for about 2 months now, and my main aggravation with the iPad is simply that there is no native file management system in place. Example: I want to create a text file with my passwords on it. However, I don't want any person that comes along to open the notes app, see my file and be able to open it. I prefer to be able to "bury" it in a hidden folder somewhere within the operating system. I would also like the option to easily rename files, and organize my Pictures, Music and personal documents in my own folders, i.e. a "My Documents" folder. I debated dropping a star on the iPad for this inflexibility in the iOS, but I knew about this "shortcoming" (as least in my eyes) before buying it. I just didn't realize how heavily it would impact my day-to-day use. In the end, I will be buying myself an Android tablet while the wife will use the iPad.***Final Update***So I finally ended up purchasing an Asus TF300 for myself and have been using it for about a month. My reasons were mainly because I wanted the flexibility of a file management system and the ability to more thoroughly customize my home screens (i.e. widgets and such). While I'm happier with my Android tablet, I still think the iPad a 5 star device, while I'll probably give the Asus 4 1/2 stars. The build quality just can't compare, the retina screen on the iPad is beautiful, and the stability of the OS is rock solid. Of course, the price of the iPad is more steep, and it came with 1/2 the memory, but 16GB should be plenty for most users and anyone who isn't SURE they want the Android, would probably ultimately be happier with the iPad. Hope this helps any of you "on the fence", Good luck!

Beware buyer... This used to be a pretty good companion to life but with IOS-7 I'm thinking about smashing it with a hammer. I really was going to upgrade to an IPad with larger internal storage but have SERIOSLY changed my mind. I have been an IPad user since the first generation. This retina display 64 is my 4th IPad and the pad itself is great but the operating system is now AWFUL.The keyboard is frustrating with many quirks. He functions operate at a much slower speed, the battery life is greatly diminished, with the new calendar app you may as well just use an old paper day timer. Safari takes longer to load up internet pages....and much more. The new upgrade is a farce and I will not buy another iPhone (on my 5th) or iPad again. Once these are gone, I will not replace them. My suggestion would be to learn another operating system. Androids are cheaper, and I've found my Kindle to be a new companion and easier to use since IOS-7. The system used to be very user friendly and actually kinda classy looking, but now it's design takes after operating in an old Windows computer in SAFE mode 24-7. And who wants that. It is absolutely NOT visually stimulating at all. We went from a classy Cadillac Made In the USA look to a cheap Chinese knockoff. Again, buy something else.... Apple has stepped into the Microsoft realm of hated upgrades....

The problem with Apple products is the absolute abismal customer care for their products. For the product price, you'd expect more than to have your account disabled with no reason provided. "Your Apple ID has been disabled." That's all you get. Just Google it! I spent hours going through the reviews of people trying to find out how to get their accounts reinstated. Finally, I found the link. No number to call. I was told to reset the user name and password. Done! No good. Work week starts. Phone goes back on the backburner. Try again a few days later. Same results, but someone emails me back this time. Tells me to go to the "provided" link and try again. Done! Same result. Someone else emails me. I changed my credit card info some time ago. That was it. I need to go to the ITUNES store and manage my account. Oh. That sends me back to reset my account yet again. I did manage to stumble across a number, finally. 1-800-myapple. I call it. A virtual person answers the phone. Had to find my serial number. 40 minutes later, yes, I timed it, a human answers the phone. He's friendly. He confirms my serial number and apologized for my wait. Apparently they can tell how long I've been on the phone too. Bad news. He has to forward me to the security folkes. Looks like that is going to take another 20 minutes. Do I mind waiting? Oh. I could be grading papers or doing something productive, but why not. Let's wait! That's where I am now in fact ...still waiting...58 minutes and 24 seconds later...I just don't think apple products are worth it. The apps are what makes them productive and fun, but when they cancel your account, you can't update your apps and you certaintly can't add new ones. I can't help but wonder how many people are out there whose Apple products simply aren't working all because the customer service is so bad. I suppose the 1 hour and 6 minutes I've been waiting now should provide a clue. My first apple rep--I haven't spoken to the second one yet, told me there's a lot of people trying to get their accounts fixed. By the way, if you call Apple with your cell phone, make sure you plug it into your charger. Otherwise, you will need to go find it around 1 hour and 10 minutes. OK, I'm still waiting on that second person to answer the phone, so I think I will go provide Apple a few more reviews. Time now 1 hour and 22 minutes...and counting.

I ordered and paid for a 4th generation I-Pad with retina and received a 2nd generation I-Pad from Amazon. The two I-Pads look identical and the only reason I caught the difference was the charger cord. The 4th generation uses a smaller plug compared to the 2nd generation. Amazon was called immediately about the screw up wherein the correct I-Pad was mailed via Fed-X with one day delivery to me. I sent the 2nd Generation back and shipping was paid by Amazon. My credit card was debited twice until Amazon rec'd the 2nd Generation I-pad back. Once my credit card rec'd the credit there was a note that it had been returned because of being shipped late. This was obviously not the reason and couldn't be further from the truth.Just be aware that a 2nd Generation I-Pad looks the same as the 4th Generation with the exception of the charger plug. Make sure you check the model of your I-Pad found in the settings area. The 2nd Generation cost less than the 4th Generation by a couple hundred dollars.

I have had an iPad 1 for about 2 years. With the apps that I use through the Apple store, I have gotten more than enough use out of it. The iPad 2 was not enough of a generational jump without upgraded graphics, and the iPad 3 wasn't enough because of the resolution of the camera. However, this model is truly a wonder and it will be with me until iPad 8 comes out, I suppose. The integrated camera has excellent resolution, as does the video. The processor is perceivable faster for graphics intensive games such as those by Gameloft, EA Sports and the like. Sound seems to have improved, as well.Although the latest rendition uses a different port from the predecessors, it's easier to use since either orientation will work. It does essentially make my accessories, though, obsolete. That means a new speaker dock, car charger and whatever else I may need. However, I have become accustomed to using Bluetooth peripherals making connectivity more seamless.Operation is pretty much identical, and then there's Siri. I find limited use for Siri since I have a Wifi-only iPad. I can type faster than hold the Home button to talk, and voice recognition is ok. Not great. I can touch type must faster than Siri can understand me and react. However, I'll give it more time. The housing is as small as iPad 2 and 3. Battery life is essentially the same since Bluetooth and Wifi are always on with a 75% brightness. The volume control is responsive.Since I have over 1200 apps, I'm pretty much stuff with Apple. That is the main reason I haven't considered other operating systems, apart from the Kindle Fire.Overall, I'm pleased. If you don't have an iPad, this is finally the one. If you're waiting to upgrade from iPad 1 or 2, then it's a no-brainer. iPad 3 is certainly not that much behind. Intuitively, I prefer to have a jump in processing, graphics, sound and resolution before I plan to update, again.I love this device. Two thumbs up.Update:I decided to jump up in memory to the 128 GB version. Music, movies and applications take up a lot of memory. Aside from the jump in memory, there are no discernible changes in operation or battery life.

Okay, first of all I have read through about 10 customer reviews of this new iPad 3rd Gen. I must say that I am very impressed at some of these "editorial like reviews". Well after all of the technical stuff, I'd like to just keep it plain and simple.I never owned an iPad before last week. I was always saying that Apple was overrated and actually they're not. I have owned all kinds of "other" cellphones, smartphone and tablets. Well, last month I finally brokedown and purchased an iPhone 4S and now this cool looking iPad 3rd gen 32GB. I will just say that it makes my Samsung Galaxy Tab look pretty lame and boring. I had ordered mine online and could not wait for it to arrive earlier this week. Well anyway, I opened it up registered it on iTunes and began to sync it to my account. Well after that I began to mess around with everything and had so much fun doing so, that I didn't go to bed until really late. I was impressed that it was fully charged up when I turned it on for the first time. The graphics are second to nothing elso out. I purchased some Beats by Dre Studio headphones so I could listen to music and movies in quiet places. I love everything about the new iPad...I really don't even need a regular desktop anymore. I have considered buying an iMac desktop maybe later on down the road. I heard that some people complained about the iPad getting hotter than normal on one side, well mine has not so far, I assume Apple fixed the problem with that. Now, on the flip-side of the coin, I must say this new iPad is really heavy and dense like, I am turned off from that aspect, especially since a lot of reviews say the iPad 2 is much lighter, why is this one so heavy!? Secondly, I think this model should have an sD card reader and at least one USB 2.0 port. Lastly, I think they should have added Siri to this new iPad since she's such a hit with the iPhone 4S.Well hopefully this review is pretty simple to absorb and can be really helpful to someone. All and all, I really enjoy my "new iPad", but the last things I mentioned above is the reason why I gave it an 8/10 or equally 4/5 stars rating.**Forgot to mention**, iTunes is really cool and now they have the iCloud feature. So what ever you decide to download it will automatically appear in other Apple devices that you have registered. I currently own 2 other devices and it's nice not to have to download everything via the computer, with iCloud it's already there.**UPDATE** 9/22/12 A few days ago, I was able to update my iPad 3rd Generation to iOS 6 (so this means "Ms. Siri" is now available on this generation of iPads). I said thank you, they have answered our prayers. One strange thing that happens when you update your operating system is the YouTube App disappears...IDK what that's about.
