Beware of unauthorized sellers of Klipsch Image S4i-II headphones on Amazon

Unfortunately I just found out that the Klipsch Image S4i-II headphones I recently purchased on Amazon and sold by Quality Photo are sold by an unauthorized dealer of Klipsch products. I am highly disappointed in Amazon allowing this to happen as the product is sold under the auspices of being an authentic product.

Klipsh lists the following as unauthorized sellers of their products: klipsch_com_unauthorized

From Klipsch:

A note about Amazon.com: While Amazon is an authorized online dealer of Klipsch products, many resellers who sell through Amazon are not. When purchasing, it is important to note where the product is being "shipped from and sold by," which is stated clearly in the header for each product on Amazon.com.

UPDATE 6/3/14 - I placed my warranty request for replacement S4i-II's back in April and have yet to receive them. Apparently they are still on backorder. After inquiring about the delay, the rep offered me the new R6i's instead. It is my understand that R6i's are replacing the S4i-II's, which is likely why Amazon has not been offering this model as the seller for a while. Be aware that buying from a third-party seller may void the warranty if they are not authorized by Klipsch. You may want to stay away from the S4i-II's and check out the new R6i's instead. They have the same MSRP, though are offered for a discount here at Amazon. There are not many reviews available, but a few forum posts have indicated that the sound quality is even better. No word on durability as of yet, as they are too new. I will post a review of the R6i's a few weeks after I receive them.

Klipsch R6i In-Ear Headphones with In-Line Mic and Apple Controls (Black)

SOUND: Plenty of people here have already written about the quality of the sound, so I won't get into it here other than to say I think it's fantastic. Bass is clear, and in no way overwhelming (READ: not like Beats), mids and highs are reproduced richly and accurately, and in general all my music has an added warmth when compared to something like Apple's earbuds.

ISOLATION: When worn properly (read: placed in ears and then rotated forward to create a seal), these headphones do an excellent job isolating noise around me. I wear these regularly on my subway commute and am able to keep my iphone volume right at 50% and still hear my music (and podcasts) loud and clear. It also protects you from the harsh decibels being flung at you by passing trains and crying babies. Your ears will thank you for wearing these, and 20 years from now, when you still have your hearing, you'll look back at your purchase of these headphones and smile.

COMFORT: The ear tips make long-term wear comfortable and painless. For those of you who have experienced discomfort with long-term wear of earbuds, fret no more. I have kept these babies on for hours at a time with nary a tingle. The 3 sizes of ear tips included with the headphones ensure that you will find a comfortable fit for your ears, regardless of how weirdly shaped they may be.

WIRE DESIGN: The flat wire design of these ear buds virtually ensure you will never have to detangle your headphones again. I don't know about you, but tangled wires drive me crazy. My brother's Apple earbuds have gotten so tangled that the once-3 foot long cord is now no longer than a foot. I have no idea how he lives with it. Well, with these earbuds, I never have to worry about that happening to me.

That being said, there is one major downside to the flat design: it literally catches onto everything. Do you listen to your music with an iphone in your pocket? Better not move your head too much, or that cord will stick to the sides of your pocket opening and undo that perfect seal isolating all that horrible noise around you. Oh, and you better be extra careful if you wear a bag with a shoulder strap. One wrong move and these babies will detach from your ears entirely and dangle embarrassingly by your sides.

Klipsch includes a handy little clip that allows you to clip the wire to an article of clothing or the aforementioned shoulder strap, which should help mitigate the catching problem. It works, but it's not perfect. The problem with the clip is that, once it's clipped at the right length from your head, that right length will change if you look up (gets too taut and undoes that wonderful seal) or look down (too much slack and this cord will bow out and start tickling your neck and face).

DURABILITY: I bought the S4i-II's (as opposed to the cheaper S4i's) specifically for the flat wire design that is supposed to be effective against tangles and more durable than the old design. Well, as I said above, it is excellent at preventing cord tangles. It is not, however, extra durable. Something inside the base of the headphone came loose a mere two months after purchasing these beautiful buds, and suddenly my right ear was deprived of that lovely rich and vibrant sound I had come to love. Let this be known: I am not a headphone abuser. I use these headphones on my commute to work -- I do not run with them (or any headphones, for that matter), I do not throw them around, I do not step on them or accidentally put them in the wash. I simply take them out of my drawer in the morning when I leave for work, place them in my drawer when I arrive at work, and take them out again for my commute home. My Apple earbuds survived this treatment for two years without crapping out on me, and yet these new, extra durable, moderately expensive buds couldn't make it two months??? I could not believe it.

UPDATE (1/17/14): 5 months later, the new pair is exhibiting the same problems as the orig

Bottom line: Based on two sets of headphones I purchased from Klipsch, do not waste your money!!! These are poorly made headphones that won’t last, and Klipsch customer service is awful and a waste of time to deal with.

I bought two sets of klipsch headphones, these and a pair of the S4i Rugged headphones one month apart for myself and then one as a gift for my husband. They worked well for 18 months when suddenly one day sound only could be heard from the left earpiece and not the right. Exactly one month later the same problem happened with the other set of headphones I got for my husband. Realizing it couldn’t be a coincidence that two sets of nearly the same headphones malfunctioned the exact same way after exactly 18 months, we believe the S4i headphones (or certain batches of them) are defective. We were upset and tried to work with Klipsch customer service to have them repaired or replaced, but customer service at Klipsch is the worst of any company I have dealt with. They told me to hire a 3rd party to have both sets repaired and didn’t acknowledge any issue with the headphones. They didn’t even make an effort to apologize for the inconvenience or offer to help us with our headphones. Any decent company would have at least offered you a discount on a new set to try and keep customer loyalty.

Additionally, when these were actually working properly the coords for these headphones make a lot of noise when moved. The noise of the coord for some reason can be heard echoing inside the headphones when in your ears. So if you like to exercise, or walk, even when these headphones are working properly, you will hear a ton of noise from the moving wire, which even my $5.99 Skull Candy headphones don’t have a problem with.

Let me start by saying that I bought these after returning a certain red colored more highly-rated, less-expensive set of tangle-free ear buds with a microphone. They were junk, and those reviews were inflated by customers who received the product for free, so beware!

Onto these: I love them. The first thing you notice is the build quality. These are well-made ear buds. The cord is solid, there is no play or wiggle in the connections, nothing about them is chintzy. It doesn't hurt that they've got a great clean, modern look as well.

The next thing I noticed was the fit. In a word: phenomenal. This is what sets these buds apart from others. They are angled in such a way that they seal easily to block out ambient noise and transmit sound directly to you without having to crank them up. Like most earbuds, they come with gels in different sizes to customize the fit. The gels are much different than what I'm used to seeing, however. They're more of an oval shape than round. I suspect the reason that these fit so well is that our ear canals aren't really round (but are more oval), just as ear canals are not angled straight into our heads as normal ear buds would have you believe.

Comfort is incredible. I've worn them all day basically every day since I bought them. There's no discomfort even after 8-10 hours, much different than any other buds I've owned. This includes expensive offerings from Sennheiser, Beats, Skull Candy, etc.

Sound quality is top notch. I'm not sure if it's the quality of the speakers or just the amazing fit, but either way, these things sound awesome. Bass is solid, mids and highs are clear and don't get "tingy" or muffled. No complaints whatsoever.

The cord is clearly marked with L and R which is helpful, but I've found that with the unique shape, I can tell right away which ear each bud belongs in. No need to even look closely to determine whether you're putting the bud in the correct ear. While it seems minor, this actually makes a big difference.

The microphone and remote work well. The volume controls are intuitive and easy to find and press, even while wearing gloves. They work perfectly with both my iPhone and iPod. The middle button moves to the next song, and will answer and hang up calls when appropriate. Sound quality through the microphone is good, as well. Certainly no complaints there. Placement of the microphone is a little off. It's down at the "split" in the cord instead of further up. This makes it necessary to adjust the cord a little so someone can hear you easily. Not a huge deal.

The flat cord is absolutely tangle free. It doesn't have memory, so it doesn't come out kinked up. Even after being wadded in a pocket it straightens nicely. It also doesn't get stiff in the cold, a problem that plagues many other ear bud cords. Since I commute via public transit in Minnesota, this has always been a huge problem for me for a significant portion of the year. It's nice not to have to worry with it with these!

One problem that the cord does have, and this is what prevented the fifth star, is that it transmits bumps and brushes pretty badly. This is a problem with all ear buds, but it's an annoyance nevertheless. I feel that these buds may transmit thuds a little worse than others, possibly due to increased surface area on a flat cord. This isn't a huge problem while commuting, but I wouldn't recommend these for exercise. It would get annoying quickly.

Overall, if you are using these for anything other than exercise, I can't recommend them enough. Great, great product, especially for the money. The fit, comfort, and performance are all well above the price range.

These earphone I feel are overrated based on opinion of people upgrading from average or earphones that are provided with a device by default. Before purchase of these I was using the v-moda remix (great pair by the way)lasted me well over year with heavy to normal use with exceptional sound quality as well, but one day I pinched the cable quite severely by mistake and one side stopped emitting sound. So after seeing such good reviews I figured I'd give these a shot, and was quite disappointed in build quality a first impression when handling, everything wash made of flimsy plastics and the cable was quite thin. then after burn in and such sound quality was not all that impressive either. I mean if your coming from Apple stock earphones or some that came with phone or any other MP3 player, or cheap $15 pair then you will likely enjoy this or find it good enough.

Sound quality
From what I heard I would rate sound quality around that of $20-30 in-ear skullcandy earphones or with in that range but definitely under $50 class maybe with better high freq. response EVEN ORDERED SECOND PAIR TO MAKE SURE IT WASNT JUST THE PAIR I RECIEVED.

Noise isolation
Decent isolation for price. This is one of the factors it was even with the vmoda pair.

Build quality
Rubbish, as mentioned before quality is all cheap plastics including remote, and thin cable vs. my v-moda pair which was all metal including the remote and cable was of decent quality.

Comfort
The light weight factor from the fact it's all plastic is positive as it barley is noticed when in ear, One place where my v-Moda remix pair caused small issue from time to time with long period in ear use the weight of the all metal caused discomfort at times. But I did not keep these long enough to test real comfort as I was immediately disappointed from other factors. **the 45 degree angle also helps keep them in ear a bit better, but there are lots of options like this now.

Durability
As for durability I did not keep longer that like 4 days so I can't truly say. But I can say they didn't feel durable at all I think I they were dropped and accidentally stepped on they would be done for, or even if cable got caught and received a little yank. With metal like v-moda pair I think I may have even stepped on it once or twice and they work just fine, till my accident with them

My opinion
For the price on these I recommend do some research and try to find a good deal on a year old pair even older or not your choice they don't have to be used, still new just not recently released because truth is technology used in headphones and such has not changed that drastically in past few years apart from design aspect and other small tech details I won't mention for now. I purchased my v-moda remix pair for just 45-50 through ebay so just keep an eye out once u decide on a pair.

After returning these I purchased denon ah-c560r 50th anniversary edition(highly recommend), for a sale price of 50$ at the time around winter last year. So after about 6-7 month of use I can say after burn in these definitely beat both out, made from light weight aluminum so more durable than these but not heavy like the vmoda pair, extremely durable cable, 45 degree angle, and very crisp through the freq response range. Will do review of them soon

I had to give this product a measly 2 stars. I really wanted to like these headphones but they just didn't deliver. Up until I bought these, I did not exactly have discerning taste. I was using $20 Sony in-ear headphones from a big-box retailer and liked them okay but because I love to listen to music through headphones, in-ear particularly, I wanted an "ultimate" experience. I researched various brands and finally decided to buy these. The first thing I noticed was the bulky fit. They fit inside my ear fine, but they came so far out of my ear that if I was laying down, I could not lay on my side. Even while walking, I don't think they really delivered in terms of reliability. After a few months of not being thrilled with these, but not finding enough reason to send them back the audio started cutting out in one of the ears. I found this to be unacceptable, particularly for the price I paid. I would not buy these again and have since stuck to the lower priced alternatives.

My 3rd pair that stopped working. All three klipsch earbuds failed on me within a year or two. I take VERY good care of my earbuds, and I always keep them in their protective case. I don't even use them that often because I got some nice wireless bluetooth earbuds from Jaybird.

On my first pair of S4i earbuds, the left earbud stopped working, followed by the microphone and volume control buttons. They replaced the first pair under warranty after I provided my proof of purchase and receipt, but even the replacement they sent failed after 8 months or so.

My current pair were a gift for which I don't have the receipt, and they won't do anything to replace them.
The speakers on these still work (for now) but the microphone and control buttons stopped working after a few months.
After contacting Klipsch, they offered me 30% off a replacement pair based on their FULL MSRP on their website, which means 0% discount.
For example, They said I could get 30% off their R6m earbuds at their MSRP of $100 even though Amazon sells them for $70. So their 30% discount basically just matches Amazon's price. So lame.

I'm never buying anything from Klipsch again. The sound quality is great, but the product quality is crap, and absolutely not worth the money since you have to replace it every year.

These are well made and have excellent sound quality. I bought mine in July 2013 and have enjoyed it on the daily commute and at the fitness club (treadmill). However as noted by other reviewers in the last week the right earphone began to have much lower volume than the left (no bass, distant sounding). The below is what I found and how it worked out for me.

The workaround - this will sound strange. Remove the rubber earpiece over the offending right earphone. Place the open tip between your lips and suck on it (with effort) like a wind instrument but in reverse. Some air may escape the sides but try to keep it air tight. Do this for about 1 minute. Replace the rubber earpiece and volume test the earphone. You may need to repeat the procedure to return to full volume performance (both earphones should sound the same).

Details - Checked the cables which were fine (very strong and wear-resistant). Then I thought to clear any obstructions in the earphone (as opposed to spending more $). Since this is very narrow I used a canned air duster with a narrow tube to blow out any debris in the earphone. Result? The problem got worse - the earphone was barely audible. The act of pushing against the speaker with the compressed air increased the volume drop. So by reverse logic, "pulling" on the speaker might improve it. Applied the workaround (while alone) and the music started flowing again!

Dear Klipsch...your excellent earphones have a minor issue. The right earphone speaker diaphragm and/or core assembly is prone to getting stuck over some period of time resulting in low volume. This may be caused by the fact that the right earphone does not seem to be airtight (air escapes on drawing breath). The left earphone is airtight (tested this) and does not seem to be affected by the same issue. This might explain why it happens to the right earphone only for many users. Not sure but the airtightness might be helping to hold the speaker diaphragm assembly in place when in use.

I originally purchased the Klipsch S4i which were great little earbuds. Unfortunately, those broke after about 6 months and I submitted a warranty request to Klipsch. It took about 6 months for me to receive my replacement headphones, and I unfortunately received the S4-II.

I gave them two stars because they're relatively comfortable and they sound pretty good. I bought the originals to use while working out, and these are horrible to wear for that purpose. The issue is the flat cable. I'm not sure how, but it always manages to twist up into weird shapes and the flat part is a grippy rubber that will grip onto anything it touches. This causes them to get uncomfortably ripped out of your ears sometimes by just twisting, and having the cable grip against your sweaty arm or shirt. The cables twist and become misshapen at the slightest movement. The parts going to the buds constantly curl up and rub on my neck or my face.

I only bought the originals for use while working out. Since these don't work for that purpose, they are essentially worthless to me. The original S4i were pretty good, but I basically rented them for 6 months. The S4-II are junk, and I don't use them or any other Klipsch product any more.

UPDATED - scroll to bottom for additional info and reason for adding a star (original review was 3 stars).

The phrase "they just don't make 'em like they used to" comes to mind when I think about these headphones in comparison with other Klipsch products I've owned and loved. First let me start by saying I would not define myself as an audiophile but I do love music and I like to listen to it in good quality, though I won't be dropping $300 on a pair of overpriced Beats, Boses, or Souls, anytime soon.

I've only had them for a few months now but I'm seriously considering replacing them with something else. The sound quality is really just mediocre for such an expensive set of earbuds. I took another reviewer's advice and "burned them in" by playing my entire library (an extremely eclectic mix) a little louder than normal volume for about 48 hours straight, but I honestly couldn't tell any difference at all and still can't. The sound is very clear but it doesn't offer the fullness or richness of similarly (or lower) priced competitors such as the Skullcandy Titans or the Sony XBA-1s. If you're a fan of music that mostly contains one specific type of sound you'll likely love these. I just have such a wide-ranging mix of styles from classical to electronica, hip-hop, and dubstep, as well as classic rock and country (I like it all) that I find them to be too vanilla for my taste. And before anyone suggests it, I've played endlessly with the artificial "equalizer" that the iPhone offers to see if I could get better results, to no avail. I am able to get slightly better performance on certain songs with certain settings but I'm not going three menu levels deep into my phone to change the audio settings each time a different type of song comes on when I'm in random shuffle mode which is the vast majority of the time.

I love the in-line controls, which work flawlessly and have all the functionality you could hope for and it is very intuitive to use, but as other reviewers have commented, the microphone needs work. It rubs against your shirt/chest and is nearly impossible to use when your body is engaged in any type of motion. The call quality is good though it's a little weird for me to have the caller in both ears so I usually take out one side. Also, the cords, while of pretty decent and hopefully durable quality, transfer noise when they rub against your clothes/body. It's not a complete dealbreaker though it is more than mildly annoying.

They are very comfortable to wear, largely due to the oval shape of the ear gels and there is a plethora of sizes to choose from. I also love the styling and color (my iPhone and iPad are both white and I just have a thing for the all-white electronic devices) which was a huge part of my decision.

The "carrying case" is a joke and is only marginally better than the drawstring "pouch" Sony provides with its 'buds. It does look like Klipsch finally gave the earbuds a worthy shell in version 5 but the one that comes with these is ridiculously flemsy and hard to use and provides no protection in terms of potential squashing and possibly dropping them. Even my husband's Skullcandy Titans as well as my stepson's [much cheaper] Fix's have a hardshell case.

Overall these are decent for the price since they are one of the few high[ish]-end pairs that includes iPhone controls but after hearing the new XBA-1s (Sony XBA-1 Balanced Armature Headphones-1 Driver) that we got for my stepson for Christmas, I have a bad case of 'bud envy. Well, well, when I added that link I found out that the XBA-1s now have a version with iPhone controls, hmmm, might have to check those out!

UPDATE: I've now had the chance to use these earbuds to watch some tv shows and movies on my computer and I now see just how amazing they are. It's just not what I primarily wanted them for (music). Based on what I was hearing while watching the shows/movies, I'd say they'd be great for gaming as well. I could hear every minute sound including ragged breaths taken by the lead female actress of one of the shows. I've never even noticed that sound on the 7.1ch surround of awesomeness in my living room at what would likely be above-comfortable volume for most people and is my major reason for adding back one star. The range of sound is amazing, but I still think there are better options out there for my purposes.

This is my first pair of Klipsch earbuds, replacing an old pair of Sennheiser buds that recently broke. I had been loyal to Sennheiser for years, but just couldn't find a new pair of earbuds that I liked (my old pair had been discontinued).

First impression was that the build quality is fantastic. The in-line microphone/controls are really solid and well constructed. These definitely don't feel like cheap earbuds. This is the first time I've used headphones/earbuds with the flat cable design and I'm liking that as well. They remain tangle free, which is fantastic considering I use them primarily when I'm on the go, and I can toss them in their pouch or in a bag without spending time delicately folding them up to prevent knots. The cable does feel a bit heavier than a regular round cable, but it isn't noticeable enough to be a deal-breaker. One side of the flat cable is black, while the other is a dark grey, which gives them a bit of style.

It comes with three sizes of Klipsch's regular oval designed rubber tips, as well as odd (for lack of a better term) snowman-shaped tips. I've found the best luck with the regular medium sized tips, but it's good to have options if my ear canals ever decide to change in size. The cable has a straight 3.5mm headphone jack, which is especially nice for me, because it fits in my phone with the case on (unlike my old Sennheiser buds). These also feature the symmetric-style cable (both sides equal lengths), which is an absolute must in my opinion. You also get a small clip in the box, which allows you to reposition the microphone if you need to get it closer to your mouth to speak.

As for the sound... they are just a bit disappointing. Definitely not as good as my old Sennheiser earbuds (which were similarly priced), but far from bad. The bass isn't very punchy, and it all feels a bit muddled. I listen to all kinds of music, and have tested them listening to everything from indie pop, to rap, to classic rock. They aren't horrendous by any means, and for the price I'd say they are average to above average, but not quite as good as I expected from Klipsch.

I have only had them for around a week now, though, so if a "burn-in" period is necessary, this review is most certainly premature. I will be sure to edit if I notice the sound quality improve.

The headphones are fine, they worked well for the price but after six months one of the ear phones stopped working. I really only use these while walking my dogs, so I figured being able to hear from one ear while walking around was safer and I could live with it. Then two months after one of them going dead, the other one went dead and my Klipsch ear buds are now worthless. I tossed them in the junk drawer and went back to my original Apple supplied ear buds, which are still working perfectly.

These are nice ear phones. I use them while at work to get into my own zone. It takes a little trial and error to make sure that you are using the right ear covers and you are placing them correcty into your ear. If you dont place them correctly or wear the wrong size, they can be very uncomfortable. The sound that comes these ear phones is splendid. I could hear instruments for the first time in songs that I had listed to hundreds of times before. My first set did have one of the ear phones stop working after almost a year, however, I was able to get a new replacement set by going to the company website. It was painless.

All of the reviews I read on this site make relevant comments about this product. 5 stars down to 1 star. I give them 5 stars, here is what I found.

When I first tried these I agreed with all of the bad reviews of this product. They were right, no base response, uncomfortable, and the cord noise was ridiculously bad. So bad I couldn't use them. They wouldn't stay in my ear either. But hen I read one review that described the best way to use these things, and I tried it. WOW, night and day difference. 1 star to 5 stars just like that.

The secret is to wear them properly. These will work best when the cord is routed from your device, behind and over you ears. When you wear them this way it changes the angle of insertion and the ear bud slides deeply into your ear canal. You will know when you've got it right because the angle of the cord on the ear piece is pointed up, and slightly forward, not hanging straight down. You can see now, by the angle of the cord pointing up, that these were meant to be worn this way. The cord naturally wraps over the top of your ear.
So, wrap the cord over your ears. That is is where the magic begins. When you wear them this way, the angled stem matches the angle of your ear canal. When you use the right size soft rubber tip, (I use the medium size one with the double cones on it) you get a fantastic air tight seal. You can feel the pressure change as you are inserting it. With this accomplished you suddenly get deep, dynamic base, richly nuanced midrange, and crisp highs. The noise isolation increases dramatically, and best of all the cord noise that everyone complains about, completely disappears. Just slide the small rubber keeper on the cords to the ear pieces, up from the controller towards your chin a little to keep them from moving around, and you will find that you have no cord noise, a comfortable fit, they are not hanging up on your clothes, and they will not come out of your ear.

Try wearing them this way, experiment with the different ear tips until you find the right one, you will be amazed at the difference, I was.

You may want to insert these into your ear just like a pair of ear plugs. When you put in the left bud, reach your right hand over the top of your head, grasp your ear and pull up on it slightly. Wiggle the ear piece a bit until you feel it reach the correct angle for insertion. It will then easily curl up and into your ear canal. The angled stem design now makes complete sense. It matches the upward angle of your ear canal.

Now that I figured this out, I love these ear buds. Try it yourself, I think you will find this very useful.

Not very pleased with these headphones. They don't have the sound you would expect from a $100+ pair of headphones. In fact, my $10 pair of ear buds sound better! They sound a little muddy. They also transmit a LOT of sound up the cords. You will hear a lot of rattling walking around with these headphones. I also really did not like the placement, size and weight of the in-line control buttons. Wearing it just feels bulky and awkward. I also received complaints when using the microphone while outdoors. Seems like you have to be indoors and stationary for the other party to hear you well over phone calls. I also found the length of the cord to be annoyingly long. I'm pretty skeptical of the build quality as well. Within a year of purchasing these the center playback control button broke and I completely lost sound in one of the ear buds. On the plus side, Klipsch was a great company to deal with and they quickly sent a replacement pair after I mailed mine over. (Unfortunately they did not cover shipping on the way there, but it was only a couple bucks.)

I do like the oval shape of the rubber tips. They are also pretty comfortable to wear. (Despite the aforementioned annoyances with the control module.) They also look pretty snazzy. I will give them that.

I couldn't justify buying the same model again so I decided to splurge on a pair of Bose SoundTrue In-Ear headphones which. I still found myself sorely missing the Klipsch. I loved how small you could make these and how great they fit in my small ears. The no tangle cord was also great. I will admit there was a decent amount of cord noise but it never bothered me much. I honestly felt like the sound was cleaner with these compared to the Bose.

This product lasted 1 year and 3 months before a wire shorted and I lost the right ear completely. I took very good care to never stress the cable, and to always store the headphones properly. For many months of this product’s life the headphones sat unused. I would estimate the actual "regular use" period to be ~6mo, which makes these seem particularly shoddy. Upon contacting Klipsch, I discovered that QUALITY PHOTO is not an authorized retailer, and as such there was no available Klipsch warranty.

BEWARE. If there’s any problem with these you will not have any recourse.

I did tons of online research before buying these. I'd tried some S4s in the past, but went for Monster Turbine High Performance when I finally made a purchase for myself. The Turbines had more (just the right amount of) bass and presence and crystal clear mids and highs without distortion, very much like high end over ear headphones. When I'm listening, I like to hear the full range of sound, just as I'd like to hear when listening to tracking playback in a recording studio. I have Tinnitus now and can't take loud volume for too long (bummer) - and the Monsters feel and sound full even at lower volumes. The S4s I first tried out were great, and consistently receive raves reviews from CNET and others, but the sound is just a little thin for my ear - but still, not flat. With all that said - when these S4i-IIs arrived for my wife, well... I had to try them out for her, didn't I? You know, Quality Control? What did I find with the S4i-IIs? Great sound. Rich and clear, well balanced and full - just not as full as the Monsters. But if you work with your EQ on iTunes you can pretty much match the sound to your taste. The ear tips are extremely comfortable and stay in your ear much better than traditional Apple earbuds - I never had any issue with them falling out during my "Quality Control Trials" ;) And they offer a fuller sound than traditional buds, too - sorta like the difference between listening to AM or FM radio. Want more bass? Go for the larger ear pieces. It's just a matter of fit and taste. My wife, doesn't care for so much full bass and the S4i-IIs are the perfect balance between traditional Apple earbuds and my buds with the fuller bass sound. Also, the prices fluctuate here on Amazon, so I watched for a few days running and got a killer deal. Seriously - I could've filled my gas tank and had ten bucks still left in my pocket the deal was so good, with the free shipping that was offered. All things considered - these are a great buy, you can't really go wrong. They're stylish, too. My wife loves them. If they had just a little more bass end - I'd give them 5 stars of love. But, my personal taste only allows 4. If you don't really know which type of sound you might prefer in an earbud upgrade, I'd say you can't lose with these - probably the safest bet you can make on the market and most days at a darned decent price - even without the deal I got. Hope this review helps you make an informed decision about your next purchase. If it does - please give me a Helpful Review CLICK below :)

I was a big fan of this brand until a bad customer experience with getting these fixed/replaced through Amazon. After spending $100 on headphones you want them to last, but these broke down abruptly one day -- first the mic stopped working about 6 months ago, then the audio quality started to drop and then they became unusable (garbled sound when listening to music). When I got in touch with customer service, I was told I was past the warranty and there was nothing they could do. Now I'm finding another place to buy quality headphones that will stand behind their warranty when an expensive product starts to break down after barely owning for 2 years.

I've got great Audio Technica headphones for at home/desk use, but wanted something for my morning commute and other outdoor/errand situations. I'm not interested in spending $200 on something that's going to have to compete with the noise I encounter on the train, so I was looking for really inexpensive earbuds that would be a step up from the Samsung earbuds that came with my phone. Read a ton of reviews and decided to give these a try, and I'm happy with them. The isolation is pretty impressive, due in part to the pointed tips and angled earbuds, and the sound quality is good. No one is going to recommend these for in-ear monitoring or anything, but for podcasts and music on my morning commute they're great. The cable noise is a bit excessive, but for the price I would highly recommend them.

Bought these in 2013 and have had zero issues but the main thing I want to talk about is sound quality. these dominate any of the so called higher end Klipsch models period. After listening to people talk about how great the higher end Klipsh earbuds sounded, X7's I believe, I bought a pair and within 30 seconds I knew I didn't like them at all compared to the S4i-II's but I A/B'd them with and without a parametric eq app I have on my ipad because I was confused why a lower end earbud sounded so much better than what are supposed to be Klipsch's higher end. After returning the X7's I bought another pair (at a good $) and thought maybe the first pair were duds.....nope. I even purchased the best polk audio earbuds they make and the S4i-II's sounded better and had better bass than any of the others. So save some time and $ and try these. They are awesome. I got mine for $40 and wish I had bought 3 pair!

I have owned multiple pairs of these headphones and they have all broken. But the quality of the sound the headphones gave was decent for the price. The headphones breaking down all the time wasn't an issue because Klipsch used to have really good customer service and their replacement program worked well.

What I ended up having to do to have a pair of working headphones was to order 2 sets of headphones. This way when one broke down and I was waiting for a replacement I would still have a headset.
This worked for a while, unfortunately Klipsch customer service went to hell. They started telling me I had to wait months for my replacements. And I did but they never came. When they didn't arrive Klipsch sent a "better set" (s6ii's?) in their place as apology and those broke down too. The told me I had to pay to return those to be replaced. I grudgingly did. And those headphones were never to be seen again as a replacement was never sent.

Now you may be asking what I did to break the headphones so often? Nothing. I am a casual user of the headphones. I wear them on my commutes to and from work. That's it. The break always happens in the same place. Just behind the headphone jack.

Anyway, the headphones are great when they work. And had their customer service still been at the quality of what it used to be I could recommend these. But they are not. So stay FAR AWAY from these headphones and any other they make.

So, save your money and purchase something cheaper since I could have purchased 5 pairs of the Symphonized for one of these.

My experience with these over the last year:

I'm not a huge audiophile but I believe the sound quality of these is fairly good, definitely worth the price ($60-$75) in my opinion. The iPhone controls work great with my iPhone 5 (both ios 6 and 7). I used these pretty heavily, about 5 days a week. Unfortunately the sound doesn't make up for the poor build quality I experienced over the last year. I know headphones are not meant to last forever, however my FOURTH brand new pair of Klipsch S4i headphones just broke on me within a year and I'm pretty frustrated at this point.

To give a rough idea of how long these are lasting, here is the timetable:

October 31, 2012 - Ordered first pair from Amazon
May 2, 2013 - Received second pair from warranty (first pair sound cut in and out)
July 24, 2013 - Received third pair from warranty (second pair sound cut in and out)
August 23, 2013 - Received fourth pair from warranty (third pair iPhone controls broke and sound cut in and out)
October 18, 2013 - Fourth pair broke today (iPhone controls broke and sound cuts in and out)

As you can see the last three new headphones I've received from Klipsch warranty have broken with 1-3 months (two of them were the newer version S4i II). Every single one has had an issue with either the aux jack wires making the sound cut in and out or the iPhone controls stop working. I would like to say Klipsch warranty has been great for the most part, after sending them my order info/proof they send me a new pair without any hassle. However, after the third headphones broke I specifically stated in a warranty e-mail I felt they have an issue with quality assurance or defect on this product and asked about receiving a different model. I received an e-mail back from their warranty department for a new order of the same headphones, and they didn't even respond to my actual question. At this point I'm tired of e-mailing their warranty support and will buy headphones from a different company. I will not buy Klipsch again, they had a chance to keep me as a customer by sending me a different model to try (even a less expensive pair would have sufficed) but I was ignored.

My final thoughts.. if you are looking to use your headphones lightly 1-2 days a week, these may work for you. If you are an active person with moderate to heavy use... STAY AWAY. They WILL break on you.

EDIT - January 12, 2014 - Fifth pair broke after almost exactly three months, no sound in left ear bud.
EDIT2 - March 29, 2014 - Sixth pair left ear bud no longer works. These were the "rugged" version. Sick of warrantying these, going to spend a little more and buy Shures.

The audio quality is fantastic and very noticeable compared to the cheap earphones most people use or get for free with devices. The controls and microphone are great and work at least as good as any other similar earphones. What I mean by that is that the controls work fantastic but the microphone picks up noise a little too well sometimes causing people on the other end of calls to get annoyed by any background noises. If you're in a quiet room the microphone is great.

The oval shapes of the silicone ear pieces fit great in the ear and do an excellent job of blocking out noise. If you're exercising or riding a bike I really do suggest leaving one side out because the noise isolation is so good, I believe it is hazardous to be so unaware of your surroundings.

Some people may never need more than the stock earphones you'll get with their devices but some people also don't know how much they're missing by not spending a little more on quality headphones. If you enjoy listening to music, you owe it to yourself to try some quality earphones and you really don't have to spend that much to get them. You can buy some big name brands for 3x as much money but you won't get 3x more quality if any at all. Klipsch is a well known company for quality audio and I've purchased many of their products and in my dealings with their customer service, it has always been a great experience.

One thing you should be aware of, you're going to want to make sure whoever you are buying it from on Amazon is an approved vendor for Klipsch products as I know some people ran into warranty issues when buying from non approved vendors.

Sound is pretty good, could use a little more bass. I actually bought this unit for $89 from amazon as a treat for myself - thinking I never lose headphones and it would be worth it to spend money on something I used all the time - but ended up misplacing it a month later (Amazon give me free ones!!) :( so I decided to order the previous model Klipsch Image S4i for half the price (in case I lose them again it would sting less), so if you're deciding between this and the older model, maybe I could help you out:

Sound wise, the two are very similar, if not the same. I could not verify them side by side but I did not notice that the S4i-II was better sounding than the first model, although I did not read the product specifics and range for the drivers and compare the two.

Improvements: let's start with the obvious: the flatter, supposedly tangle-free cables on the S4i-II. They are heavier and weigh more (bounce around more if you're working out, a clip is included) but the tangle resistance is minimal. Still ends up as a ball of cable after being in your pocket, but noticeable easier to untangle than the first model I have had for quite some time now. The connection on the plug is very secure. The connections where the cable meets the remote and the ear pieces are improved on the S4i-II in the sense that they seem to be fused/sealed with the cable - again very secure - and possibly even more sweat resistant than the first model. Visually, better looking on the S4i-II.
Eartips: So apparently this is what Klipsch earphones are known for, bc they have the only eartips (at least that I know) that have oval eartips and are supposed to be easier on your outer ear canal, and give a secure fit. The ovals have to be vertically aligned to your ear to give said fit, and on the S4i-II there is a groove that locks the silicone eartip to the earpiece. On the previous model, there is just a linear visual clue that the two are supposed to be aligned on these points but the tips could be twisted around (because of the lack of the locking groove). Minor improvement.
Microphone and remote: seemed to work fine. Had to lift the remote near my mouth sometimes to improve mic picking up my voice sometimes. The buttons on the S4i-II seem to be bigger, hence, easier to locate by feel.
Overall this is a great product with a premium look and feel. I have had my first model S4i for a couple of months now and it's still working.

I purchased these, not even realizing that it was through a reseller on Amazon. However, the headphones arrived sealed in the box, and I did not think anything of it. The headphones were fine for about 4 months. There is a decent amount of feedback when walking from the flat wire, but most flat wire headphones usually seem to have some. After 4 months of light use (riding train, walking to school), the right earbud completely died. I usually only keep one ear in, so I can hear what is going on around me so I kept using them. Then the next month, the left earbud started having issues as well. The sound randomly cuts in and out.

I had seen other reviews that said great things about Klipsch's customer service and 1-year replacement warranty, so I contacted Klipsch. This is the response I received. "I'm sorry for the troubles with your headphones. Unfortunately the seller (Quality Photo) you purchased your headphones from is not one of our authorized online dealers. Our warranty is non-transferrable and is unfortunately void when purchased from an unauthorized dealer." There is nothing about Klipsch's shady ways of getting around their warranty on the product page. So, if your headphones are not purchased directly through Amazon, you just bought a decent pair of headphones that will probably be dead in the next 4-6 months.

The box is marked "S4i Warranty Replacement" with a sticker on top that states "Kilpsch Image S4i - II Black (Certified Refurbished) New" That is not correct (they seem to be new, but are the original S4i).

The description also claims that all original accessories are included. That is not true. The original case is not included. Five stars for the headphones themselves, one star for Beach Camera.
