It'd be a nice gift for someone, if you're on the brink of deciding how much to spend.
Between the somewhat heavy cord, the volume control bar (a nice module btw - something my Shure set lacked), and the slipperiness of the earbuds, I have found that the little shirt clip is a complete must (this is included, and is very pratical, albeit a little dorky looking to wear).
that a lot of headphones have to enhance certain types of music. I found the sound clean and crisp and excellent
for listening to classical or music that needs a flat response. For audiophiles and discerning listeners who appreciate
music for the way it is mixed and produced.
The 3 button controller has a middle button which has multiple purposes for iPhone, Ipod and some android phones.
The middle button press once to mute, Twice 2 times in a second to go next song, and 3 times in one second to go
to the previous song. Hold down the button for 3 seconds to access the microphone for SRI and Voice Recognition
for both the Ipod and iPhone 4g and 5g.
I would recommend this headset for discriminating users. For Rap and R&B you may want to look elsewhere for that large bass response, I prefer a couple of other brands for Rock and R&B, so I switch to them for better response. However, if you have an equalizer, you will find you can tune the Klipsch to suit your taste in listening. Since they have a flat response,
you can listen to the music the way it was produced.
The push buttons worked for my wife's iPhone 5 and was donated to me after she couldn't use it for the same reasons above. The flat cable is nice but it would still snag on itself from the rubbery material (and pull the plugs out again). I know I'm being critical but for the price I was expecting better.
I'm.not giving up on these just yet as I do like the lightness and comfort that in-ear buds can provide but I may try a competitor.
The main issue is that the noise from this new flat wire is so loud that it makes it almost impossible to enjoy the music, unless you are sitting at your desk and not moving. The wire is so sensitive that even with the slightest turn of your head and the wire rubs against your cloths etc will cause a thumping and scratchy noise. The noise is so loud that it makes it impossible for me to enjoy my music. Unless you are listening at very loud volume and don't move, you would almost always be able to hear the noise. You cannot even go for a walk with these headphones, let alone use it in a gym.
Also, the chord seems to stick to your cloths so when you move your head, the ear piece will get pulled out of your head.
The sound quality is ok for the original $100 price when it was released. Now that I know the issue, I would not even use it even if it came free with my phone!
I bought two of these based on the glowing reviews here. Lesson learned. Should have bought one and returned it in time!
If you are willing to buy two or three pairs of these every year, then they are fantastic. Like I mentioned at the start of the review, they have great sound quality. However, if you think a ~$50 pair of headphones should last more than 4-6 months, then you should buy something else. These will break for no apparent reason. I will not be purchasing this product again and cannot recommend them.
After burning it in for a day or so, I then started my listening test. The first thing I tried is to find a pair of ear tips that fits me well. Then, I started my listening test. I played music from different categories - pop, rock, rap, electronic, classical, etc. The further I'm into the test, the more disappointed I became. The sonic quality of this pair of earphone is really subpar, and the tonal balance is quite out of whack. I thought it could be the iPad/iPhone's issue, so I plugged it into my receiver. However, the tonal balance maintained...
Here is what I think after the listening test:
Bass is heavy and boomy, lacks detail.
Sounds like there is a brightness peak at around 1khz-3khz range
Highs lack extension. Again, sounds like there is a peak at around 10khz range
When playing at higher volume level (70-80% using iPad), it started to sound 'compressed' dynamically.
When playing complex material, it failed to maintain separation. All instruments and vocal sounds like being jumbled together.
The two stars I gave are for having a responsive remote, and the ear tips fit comfortably. Sonically speaking, it gets none from me.
In terms of sound reproduction, they're pretty decent - hence the 2 stars - but that is where any appreciation of these earbuds ends. They have a single, specific design flaw that supercedes any positive aspect: they don't stay in my ears. I've tried every type of rubber buds that came with them to no avail; they simply won't stay in.
It doesn't matter what you're doing, these earbuds will fall out out. Walking around? They'll fall out one at a time so you are constantly adjusting. Eating? Oh yeah that jaw movement is going to knock them right out. Hm, what's another common activity that I'd use these earbuds for? Talking? ...yeah that's guaranteed to send them tumbling to the ground.
Chewing gum, turning your head, SITTING COMPLETELY MOTIONLESS, all activities that will cause these earbuds to spring from your ears like Athena from the head of Zeuss.
I suggest anything but these.
The only thing I have noticed is if the headphones aren't in the correct ears they tend to be uncomfortable and fall out. Although for me it's not a problem,. The three button controls are essential as I don't like to rummage in my bag/ pocket to find my device to stop, skip or change the volume on a song. The new flat wire is new for me and I will say it's perfect for preventing the usual tangles that happen with headphones. That's not to say these won't tangle, but not nearly as much as the thin round headphone wires.
Overall great headphones, definitely worth a try!!
The build of them looks better than prior versions, cable is flat which prevents as many tangled cords. I hate this when you take a pair of headphones out of a coat jacket and just a ball of cable.
The ear plugs do not fit well, I have tried them all and I have normal sized ears, they keep falling out with any slight resistance on the cable. This is a big turn off for me as I do not want to stop to push them back into my ear.
Sound is clear but too much treble, not looking for a heavy bass that will blow my ear drums but at least a little would make them sound better. I have tried to compensate with the Equalizer but still not good enough.
Whether $40 or $99 I would rather use the headphones that came with my iPhone. Disappointed.
Update
After reading various forums I learned that the secret to the fit is to get different ear pads. Either the Comply T-100 or the Shure EABKF1-10. Either of these fit well and provide a better fit and sound. With these ear pads I am using this headset a lot more and happier.
Amazon replaced it with no questions asked and I was very happy with their service.
Unfortunately, the second pair I noticed also has a weird distortion problem with the left earbud. I am an IT engineer and know how to troubleshoot issues; I thoroughly troubleshot these headphones and confirmed it was my my equipment or my audio sources. These headphones are simply worth sub 100 dollars. You get what you pay for. Bass is overwhelming and the audio is decent but not worth a dollar more than the price tag.
I gave one star because they are extremely comfortable. It is too bad that it is a sub par product even for the money.
I will never buy from this company; instead, I will rely on other trusted brands (had my sennheiser hd25s for 7 years and they still sound great) and spend the extra 50-100 bucks.
1) The cord is simply too long and heavy. The cord is constantly getting caught on something.
2) The silicon earpieces are too slick and soft. They too easily either deform in my ear, muffling sound, or simply fall out.
So, forget about using these while your on the move. And, you really can't use these at the gym or out for a run.
I'm finding that I only use them now in my work office. But, there are so many better over-the-ear options for that kind of listening.
The new thicker cable version seemed like the answer to my problems. But I've found the earbuds don't fit my ears as well, as if they are now using a smaller sized silicone earbud than before (I had same model as before), and also it feels like a much heavier set of earphones. I used the clip on my shirt to help so they dont get pulled out of my hears, but still they'll fall out just sitting at my desk and turning my head a few times.
I loved the previous version. This version has improved cables (they're flat instead of rounded, and tougher cable housing) but even using the largest silicon ear pieces they won't stay in my ear--as if the size of the ear pieces it comes with have been reduced in size for this model. Needs bigger ear pieces.
Don't waste your money.
You can literally buy a pair of earbuds at Kmart with a mic, for $15, that sounds EXACTLY as good. Earbuds never last long enough to justify buying expensive ones.
Go buy some $15 J-Lab buds, you'll thank me.
Wasted money! Thanks Klipsch.
The texture of the flat cord catches any normal t-shirt, I can constantly hear them moving and brushing against through the cord. I can also feel it pull on my ears as the line itself pretty weighted.
Sound was good but not great, audio came from spotify on high settings, through a Samsung note 3, not like that's saying much but just so you have a baseline of what I'm using for this pseudo review.
They have really improved the quality of the plug in this version, but obviously its not good enough. I have even been extra careful to not yank the cord when i un-plugged them but rather hold the plug and pull it out, but to no avail.
Shame, they sound really, really good. They are comfortable and block out plenty of outside noise with little to no leakage.
I fully expect my replacement pair to break in a few months aswell and when the last pair caves in, after warranty, i will be looking at other brands as i have lost faith in Klipsch.
1. Hardware buttons (+, -) wont work with my Windows phone. Tried them with my old iPh and worked with them.
2. Wires are heavy (they tried to make them tangle free but that adds extra weight, unfortunately)
3. Ear plugs not that great.
if your in the market for a headset i recommend the lg tune headset over these dinosaur's. over 4,000 reviews on the lg tunes and holding a 4 star rating. the bad reviews on the lg tune was because some bootleg units got into the mix and caused some customer disservice, which i think is settled now. the lg tune is light years ahead of these earphones.
seeya klipsch maybe you'll get your act together someday.
I've owned two pairs of these and had the exact problem with both. Each has died within six months of purchase after about a week of me fiddling with the jack to try and get the stop cutting in and out.
Not worth the time, money and frustration.
When I contacted Klipsch to have them replaced under the warranty, I was told they would not because I had purchased through an Amazon seller, not Amazon itself. Be aware.
Phone call quality is also excellent and if you aren't doing a lot of moving around I would highly recommend these headphones.
