I first tried to set it up in Repeater mode, but it was very weak in picking my wireless connection (router in far basement, tried to set it up on 1st floor kitchen), so I decided to just set it up as an access point.It didn't work out of the box, I installed the new firmware, and it was able to set it up. My computers were able to see the new network, and I tried to connect to it. NOTHING. I checked the status, I see it was receiving a lot of bytes, but not really sending out much. I disconnected, and reconnected about 3-4 times last about 3-4 minutes before it would finally connect. yay, internet.In the process of writing this review, the internet stopped working, I had to disconnect and reconnect. I have no idea how to prevent it from doing that, i am about 5-7 feet away from the router itself.I will update this review if the internet connection stays inconsistent. if it does not improve, it is going back.

Have it since 2 months. This unit works great and is very easy to install. The bandwidth is good and the price-point is excellent.

I've spent way too much time trying to make this access point fast and reliable. If the wireless connection didn't keep dropping, the signal was stronger and this all wasn't such a hassle, it would have been great.

The most important thing about this is that it's *not* a router. It doesn't do NAT and DHCP, and as such it's a lousy access point. It took about an hour of my time to realize this is the case... returned.

I recently purchased a new Panasonic DVD player and television that both have internet capability but did not come with wireless adapters. I did some searching and came across the ZyXel. I must say i was a little apprehensive since i'm not very tech saavy. But I ordered the item anyhow and printed the reivews with the detailed instructions (THANKS for those by the way!). The item was delivered yesterday and it took me a total of 5 minutes to setup (including turning on the computer)and i never even opened the documentation that came in the box. Plugged it into the DVD and TV (there are 2 LAN ports on this bad boy)and away we went! Awesome! And it saved me $40-$60 since i didn't have to order the wireless adapters. Now my only question is- can i put two of these on my home network? I would love to replace the USB dongle on my old XP. After configuring i went online with the old XP through this thing and it was considerably faster than the USB!

My first purchase was the TRENDnet TEW-650AP. Perhaps I got a defective unit but there was no way to get this baby to work. Back it went.The ZyXEL WAP3205 just worked. It was up and running in 10 minutes.I set it up in relay mode, connected it to my Tivo and that was that.Couldn't be happier.

I bought this to use as a repeater. I've set up several wireless networks with different types of routers and am no novice to this process. The included instructions were extremely sparse, so I followed the instructions in this thread to a T and it did not work at all. I then went online to see if I could find anything, and followed those instructions--again, no dice. I flashed the firmware, also, and that didn't help. I couldn't even get it to connect to my original router in any way, even when it was hooked to it with Ethernet cable. Then, I stopped being able to connect to it at all, and then the wireless component went out--in other words, it stopped working entirely. I sent it back for a refund and just got a stronger router. My advice is to spend a bit more money and get something with a lot more ease of setup and documentation.

I purchased this item in order to provide Internet access to my (wired connection only) TV and blue ray player. As other people have said the set up is a tad tricky but after that this item works great and is cheaper and more reliable then many other brands of access points.

Just purchased the ZyXEL WAP 3250. Had one issue getting it working. My network name had blanks. When I got tech support, they mentioned this as an after thought. Took the blanks out of my name and the http: login set up worked like a champ.You know you have this problem if the SSID name is not your network name.Seems like a good unit. Gets 4 stars since their manual did not mention this where I could find it (if it does at all) nor did the obvious place on their website.

Drops all users on network after 45 seconds. You have to manually disconnect and reconnect to get back on. Then 45 or so seconds later it drops all the users again. Total junk!Reboot no help - Hard Reset no help - Reboot laptop no help - Does this on all devices I own.This is the second time I bought an item to save a buck and it worked out poorly. The only saving grace is Amazon has free shipping on returns. But seriously don't buy this. Keep looking.

I purchased this item to act as a wireless client and connect couple of items from my home theater (via Ethernet cable) to my wireless network. While the unit seems to work as advertised, getting there was not too straightforward. I am certainly no networking expert, but I have had a wireless network in my home for years, and let's just say that I learned a great deal more about wireless networks when I set this up than I ever cared to...The documentation is AWFUL... With no explanation for this particular application in the guide that is included. You have to download the full PDF file from the included CD, and sort through 100+ pages , jumping back and forth, to get the info you need. Even then, it is very confusing. it was only after I visited the ZyXEL website and found a 3 page doc on setting up the unit as a wireless client that I got the unit working properly. Why that simple document was not included in the box I fail to understand, and if it was, I would give the product a higher rating. Since they did not, and wasted several hours of my time, they are getting 3 stars overall, and less than that for setup and documentation.The price is right and the unit seems to work. If you are a networking guru, or do not value your time, then this unit provides good bang or the buck.

I just got my ZyXEL WAP3205 from Amazon less than an hour ago, and it took me less than 20 minutes to set it up as a Universal Repeater. Our master bedroom in our house was a dead zone, and I was tired of having to get up in the middle of the night when I was on call so I could walk to another room to get on my computer and fix something.The included documentation is not great, admittedly, but if you dig around the ZyXEL web site, they have fantastic instructions for whatever you want to do. If you want to set it up as a repeater, look here:------> [...] < ------- IT HAS PICTURES!Once you are done, you essentially have two wireless networks, your old one and the new one the WAP is repeating. It works great. Now when I'm in the bedroom I just connect to the new wireless network and it works wonderfully.You cannot beat the price, $40, for something like this. Other repeaters run over 100 bucks!** 1/16/2013 Update**It's still working as a repeater. I can't remember the last time I rebooted it. If you get it working, it's very solid just sitting there.

I have only had the ZyXEL 300 Mbps for 2 days so I am not sure on long term use, but for the two days it has worked well. Installation was not very hard at all as long as you followed the directions. I am using the repeater function. If anything goes wrong in the next year or so I will update the review.

I have bought two of these and they both work perfectly for what I am doing. First one is to make a wired only printer wireless so i can place it on the opposite end of the house. Second is to connect a media PC and DVR, again on the opposite ends of the house. This is one of the main benefits of this device in that you can connect two devices. Most bridges in this price point only connect one and they are usually more expensive at $50+ and not 11n capable, a huge plus for range.I use this device as a wireless bridge but it can also be used as a repeater. Haven't tried that feature but as a bridge it just works. And did I mention the price? It is by far the cheapest for such a feature packed item. Before buying I also considered the ASUS RT-N12 Wireless-N Router, Access Point, and Repeater and flashing with DD-WRT or Tomato firmware as it had comparable reviews but ended up going with this. Most likely either one would be fine. Anyone looking for a wireless bridge should consider this highly.On the flip side I work in wireless so setup was a breeze for me. The documentation as a whole wasn't the greatest but I believe most of the comments have already mentioned the things to look out for when setting this up.

I bought the ZyXEL WAP3205 on the recommendation of an acquaintance because he said it was perfect for two uses: bridging VOIP adapters and older Blu-ray players. Granted, the device isn't the most intuitive to set up, but the kind people who left prior reviews here made the process fairly straightforward. It took the longest to figure out how to force Windows 7 TCP/IPv4; turns out (at least for me) you must input IP, Subnet, *AND* Default Gateway (can be found in your router settings). After that, getting the 3205 to act as a bridge took about 5 minutes.I currently use the device with a Nettalk Duo unit in the bedroom. I was concerned that there might be lag or interference since the Duo would no longer be connected directly to a router. However, several hours of calls later there have been absolutely no issues. In the future, I look forward to hooking it up to my older Panasonic Blu-ray player (wireless *capable*, but why pay an extra $70 for an adapter when the ZyXEL box can serve it the Internet and still have an ethernet jack to spare?!)

After a little struggle with WPS setup, I followed the clearly written instructions included to access the control panel via a browser instead. Some networking knowledge is useful. After restart had an IP conflict on my local network, but a reboot of that computer resolved this issue. Overall, very pleased.

After reading reviews determined this would serve as a wireless access point for my DVR to provide broadband access. I have a Linksys WRT54G router in the network. Using the documentation, and notes from reviews here, I was able to set this router up within 1/2 hour. Has been working without one issue for over a month. I also have some Powerline in the house and the DVR supports it. Problem I had with Powerline is you can not run it through a UPS and I have the DVR connected to a UPS. Wireless was my solution using this product. I am not sure why any negative reviews. This is a great product especially for the price.

I bought this after reading the Sony WiFi Adapter reviews. Users suggested using this device instead of buying that device. I'm glad I did. I was able to set this up in client mode and hook up my Sony Bravia HX800 TV to it. No need to run extra cables from my router across the house and no need to buy an expensive proprietary Sony device much more expensive than this.Setup was a breeze, took 5 minutes to install.

I'm amazed this product got such great reviews. I sense they are from a lot of tech savvy buyers who wrote about what a great product it is, but at the same time they admit the documentation is very poor, and that's being diplomatic. Well, I and a techie friend of mine wasted 4 hours trying to set this up. First, using the directions from the company online (waste of time), then all the "do it yourself"'ers who followed the old trial and error method. Though they rave about the ZyXEL being a great product, my point is: O.K. if someone offers you the highest spec'd p.c. you can buy for $10, but, only catch is, it's all in Chinese (and you're an English speaker), do you really want to tackle that mountain? Sorry, but this product is a case in point that sometimes it's worth the extra $20 or $30 to get a better plug & play device. ZyXel was a nightmare

Agree with many other reviews that the documentation and set up of this unit is absolutely terrible! I finally got it up and running, and my computer can see it, but will not connect to the Internet through it. I finally called customer service, and they answered right away, and spent about 2 hours on the phone with me to get it working. After many trys and resets, even the rep could not get it working. He said there is some kind of issue with the AT&T 2-wire uverse internet. He said to call AT&T and get them to change the channel my router is using. I decided this is just too much trouble to get it working. I am returning this to Amazon for a refund. Bottom line: not recommended if you have AT&T uverse internet service.

Once you get this up and running it works great. You can even use it in repeater and client mode at the same time! The set up is really hard. It took me about 20 tries. I finally got it to work by changing its IP address to 192.168.1.140. I think the reason that the set up was hard was that my Linksys router didn't have an IP address range that included the repeater's default IP address (192.168.1.2).Overall I would recommend this repeater, for people who are good with computers.If you do choose to use it with a Linksys router change the repeater's IP address to 192.168.1.100-149. This should make the set up easy.

All of the set-up comments are relevant. Phone support is available if you get stuck. If you are using this device as a repeater, go to the manual web set-up starting with the Universal Repeater section in the full user guide PDF (skip the quick start guide).Once I got the wireless ZyXel network signal working, I thought the speed was lacking. I discussed this with ZyXel customer service and they confirmed that all of my settings are correct, so this is the best speed I can expect. Just to be sure, I went ahead and bought the Hawking HWREN1 to compare the speed achieved by this extender vs. the ZyXel.I get about the same performance with both units on both upload and download speeds. The drop in download speed is more than half compared to the speeds I get wirelessly from my primary router at the end if its useful range.So, pick your poison. The ZyXel is cheaper and has more configuration choices (if you need them) but requires either a) more computer experience or b) extreme patience for reading and understanding the directions for both your router and your extender. The Hawking is "just" a range extender, is easier and faster to set up, has easier to understand directions, but is more expensive. Both units perform about the same when set-up properly.

I already have a ZyXEL AP with built in router/DHCP/Etc. I use this to enhance the wireless coverage across the 3 floors of my home. As expected, it was simple to set up and get working. Took me longer to get it out of the box than to plug it in and get it working.
