Hi,I've got two of these guys and they work great. Here's my primer for what to do to make this easy if you are just looking to set up a wireless repeater.With wireless repeaters, you can choose to use the same SSID (i.e. name) for your network. I would recommend against that as a lot of phones and older wireless devices can't differentiate between the different routers then and you can end up staying connected to the wrong one (i.e. farthest one away). If you name them differently (like 1,2,3 or north, south, west) it's less confusing in the end and works for the lowest common denominator network device you have.First step, update the firmware. The firmware that ships is way out of date, once you've updated it's got a nice wizard for setting up the repeater.Next, using your main router, take a look at what channel your main router auto negotiated. Most modern routers are smart enough to find the least busy channel. Once you know what that channel is, configure your main router to always use that channel and not auto choose one anymore.Next, go into your new repeater and use the 3 step wizard for setting up the repeater. Once you do that, it will automatically have picked the same SSID and to auto configure the channel. go into the settings, change the name of the network it repeats, and set the repeater to use the same channel as your main router. After that, you should be golden.Only issue I've noticed is one of my routers is plugged into my DLNA enabled HDTV. That one sometimes gets confused and needs reset. I believe it is related to the TV but not sure how.

I read previous reviews, so I was anticipating some difficulty with configuration of the device. But the benefit of learning what others had gone through and knowing how to follow/interpret the enclosed instructions, set up was very straight forward. Since then, the ZyXEL has worked perfectly as a wireless bridge. I should note that I changed routers from a D-Link device to the Apple Time Capsule (Airport Extreme) (both 802.11n devices) with no reconfiguration of the ZyXEL. All I did was make sure I named the network the same and used the same security code. I have used it as both a wireless bridge for my Blu-ray player and a wireless bridge for my son's PC when he came home from college--again with no need to reconfigure.I am very pleased with the device and my purchase.

Took a long time to configure properly and even then when I think it's working fine I get another IP address conflict or a client will just stop working (while others remain working). I have a networking background and I just cannot get it working reliably. I think I've done everything recommended (same channel, etc.)

Purchased this for managing the hotel guest network. So far, there's no complaints! Have connected 70+ rooms to the router using 5 switches and have connected 10 wireless APs to this using POE switches and it hasn't gone down (been about a week). It has a limitation of 100 concurrent users and you can purchase a license to get up to 200 users which I won't need.It has some great features built in like bandwidth management and guest authentication with 'superuser' (one username/pwd for everyone). I haven't tried out the Terms and Conditions feature because that requires you host a webpage on a third party website which I can't be bothered with. Called up Zyxel tech support 800 number and after waiting on hold for 5 minutes, got an English speaking person based in the US who was helpful. Would DEFINITELY recommend this. Also, shop around because the prices vary greatly (+/- $200) depending on if you need the printer (I didn't).

In our old house it worked fine in an adjacent room and ok on the second floor, but not at all in the basement. In our new house it doesn't work at all. Completely useless and a big disapointment. What a waste of money. It might connect for 5 min., but that's it and it's dead in the water.

This is a fantastic product. Setting up the Zyxel as a repeater took me all of 2 minutes. Almost faster than unboxing it!!! The setup was really easy to follow.After using it for about 3 weeks now and so far I did not have to reboot the repeater. I can always access it.Simply put: This is the best repeater on the market at a great price!

I bought this to use as a range extender, but it wasn't terribly reliable. My devices could still make out the weak signal of the original base station, and it seemed like they would hop back and forth between that and the range extender until they gave up entirely. Perhaps it would work better if the original base station was completely out of range of the client devices.However, I then tried setting up the Zyxel in client mode, tethering it to my desktop machine with a network cable on LAN2, and it works much better this way. The big antennas on the Zyxel WAP3205 seem to help it communicate directly to the base station while the little USB wifi dongle I was using would only get 1-2 bars out of 5 bars and drop out intermittently. speedtest.net now returns close to the full uplink/downlink and ping speeds, compared to using the wifi dongle.

Spent three hours with this, got it set up it just refuses to work with my network (repeater mode) its found my network, its configured should work but nope called ZyXEL they couldnt get it to work either, now im waiting for a level II teck to call me...

Once you have it setup it works flawlessy. Problem is setting it up for the first time. Documentation is not user friendly to the non-tech savvy. I'm using it as a wireless bridge / access point with my Sony blue-ray player. I already have a Linksys wireless router using WEP encryption (forced to use this because my XBOX 360 doesn't support WPA). To make it easy for others doing the same thing use the following steps:1. Change your pc or laptop's ethernet adapter's IP address to 192.168.1.3 To do this on Vista or Windows 7 you open you network sharing center then you open your ethernet LAN adapter settings (or manage network connections in Vista). Select the Internet protocol v4 (IPv4) and go into properties. Manually put in the IP address with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and don't worry about the gateway address.2. Connect your WAP3205 to your pc/laptop with the ethernet cable that is provided. Of course make sure you plugged in the power to it or your going nowhere. Open up your preferred browser (IE, firefox, netscape, etc.) and then type in the address bar 192.168.1.2 and now you will be connected to the WAP3205. Type in the default password of 1234, you are now prompted to change your password to whatever you want it to be.3. Now that your in the WAP3205 click on Expert Mode. When in this mode on the far left you will see Status and below it Monitor, Configuration and Maintenance. Click on Maintenance and then hit the plus sign in front of Maintenance once you are in. Go to the last option of Sys OP Mode then select Client Mode and hit apply.4. Go back to the far left and hit configuration then go to Wireless LAN. You will see tabs for Profile, Site Survey and WPS. Hit the Profile tab and then hit the Add button. Type in your network name / SSID and then select your security drop down box. Select WEP if you have a setup like me with the XBOX 360 or if you don't care about security select the no security option. Type in your passphrase that you use for your router's security or the actual 128 bit security code (or 64 bit if that is what you use) and hit apply. Then select your newly created profile and hit the activate button. If it's configured correctly you will get a green check. Now your done on this end.5. Disconnect your WAP3205 from your pc/laptop and change your pc or laptop's ethernet adapter settings back to whatever it was before.6. Go to your blue-ray player and disconnect the power cord for about a minute or more. Connect the WAP3205 to the blue-ray player with the ethernet connection and power your blue-ray player back on. The blue-ray player will automatically pick up the network settings from the WAP3205 and you will be done.Hope this is helpful and if you don't have an XBOX 360 or if you use WPA for security the setup should be easier.So far so good with the Zyxel WAP3205...I had used the Linksys WET610N (2 separate units) and they both failed. The first one worked a couple of days before the wireless stopped working and the second one's wireless failed right out of the box. The WET610N's are way easier to configure but they are too expensive and for me totally unrealiable. The WAP3205 is a steal and worth the effort when you consider the rock solid connection I have now, besides it was less than half the price of the Linksys. It's not as nice looking as the Linksys that's for sure but the main thing is it works as described.

Difficult to set up initially. But reliable as long as you have a static channel. Make sure your wireless router is set to the same channel (not automatic).

I have dealt with several routers and repeaters, some good and some not very good. This is by far the worst. Setting it up and updating are torturous, and the connection is not stable. I will never buy this brand again.

This wireless access point is not as complicated to setup as most claim, but experience and some network understanding helps.For the price and features, I don't think there is a better access point made, I plan to buy myself another and go away from my D Link.One of the things I could have used would be another cat5 port, by not having one I have to use a hub.

I usually do not take the time to leave feedback on items, but I am especially frustrated with this product. I have been trying to get this set up in universal repeater mode to extend my home network for the past three days and I am not having much success. The user manual does not explain anything in detail so it is of no use whatsoever. I even tried calling customer service to try and get a technician to help me. All the guy did was walk me through the exact same process that the quick setup does, and then when he couldn't answer my questions he told me I needed to contact my ISP. Needless to say, after three days I have decided to return it and go with another router.I'm very proficient with electronics / computers and have no trouble setting up most devices without even using the manuals. I do not recommend this product to a home user that is inexperienced in home networking.

Purchased this as a range extender for a pc hooked up to a TV. Initial configuration for this was quite easy. I was able to attach to it and watch about 30 minutes of a show before the Zyxel box disconnected from the main router. Rebooting the range extender did not help. Used it the next day as an access point and it was able to hold my connection for several hours before I left the coverage area. Once I came back I could not reattach to it. Power cycled the Zyxel box and the wireless indicator would not come back on and could not be seen by my laptop. Will return and look at another solution.

I just wanted to provide a little extra help for anyone who encountered the same issue that I did. Before I begin, I do want to say how fantastic Zxyel's customer service was. The rep that helped me, John, was very patient and extremely helpful.To start off, I'm using this device as a wireless bridge(client mode) picking up a signal from my Netgear WNR2000 router to my Directv Satellite reciever for VOD and to my Sony Bluray player.OK, so after following the previous posters instructions on installing the WAP3025, I was still having problems. The device would associate with the network but there would be no internet access. I tried multiple remedies that I found by searching online, but nothing helped. I could not access the internet from a computer plugged into it, much less the 2 devices that I wanted to use it with.So, after multiple hours of frustration, I finally broke down and called Zyxel's tech support. I was a little hesitant b/c most of the tech support lines I've called in the past have been less than helpful. As I stated before, I was completely wrong.John talked me through it, and this was our solution.-I first logged into my router and set it's channel from "auto" to a specified channel "01" in my case.-Then, I changed the WAP from "Client" mode to "Universal Repeater". I did this even though I don't need the added wireless signal. This allowed for a few more modifications to the settings.-FYI, a little tricky part of the Universal Repeater mode is that you have to know the SSID of your router. There is no "Survey" like in Client mode.-So then after "locating" the router, I was able to specify the same channel as the router, and entered the security code.-I finally added a security code for the WAP.Now it works! It's connected and everything is up and running. Now that it's setup, everything works beautifully.I did this last night, so it's probably not as detailed as if I'd done this review directly after, but hopefully that helps with anyone having the same issues I was. I guess the channel setting made a huge difference in my case.Good luck!

The product looks great and the setting up was easy.However, this is not an Wireless N unit, it is Wireless G unit. Which makes it worse the most I could squeze from it like data transfer was up to 13 kbps when connected like client to ZyXEL NBG4615 (which seems to be at least visible like an N unit) although the wireless connection was up at 300 kbps according to the status screen.When connected as a repeater the average data transfer is between 3 and 5 kbps.I did not return it only because my Verizon DSL is up to 3 kbps and it does the reqular job. In the rare ocasions of large transfers between my computers I stretch a wire between, which bring the speed up to 60 kbps between both ZyXEL units (theorethical one of 100).Otherwise, the connection is stable and did not need restarts for at least 3-4 months (it might be much longer, I do not have data yet). Because of the stability, I give 2 stars.

One of the easiest wireless devices I have ever setup. Once you log into the ZyXEL, it walks you though the setup process step by step. The whole process of unboxing it, connecting to my network switch, loging in, and setting it up took about 10 minutes. Even setting up the security was simple.Signal strength is excellent. I was outside my building (so wireless had to go through an inside wall and the glass windows) about 30ft or so away and the signal was full bars.I have setup many wireless devices over the years with plenty of problems. However the ZyXEL was a breeze.

I hooked it up to my macbook pro and thought since I knew a little bit about networking I would get this thing started right away. Yeah not so much. But I followed the instructions from the first two reviews to a tee and it worked flawlessly. I'm glad they walked me through step by step. After I got everything situated I hooked it up to my pioneer VSX 1021-k and no other settings were required. It found the network and connected just fine. I can now use my airplay for my receiver and also hook up my blueray player to this device to get wireless instead of running cables to my theater room.

Im leaving it 2 stars instead of 1 since it seems it works ok as a client or access point (havent tested)As a repeater its way too unreliable. I set it up without a hitch, set the SSID, MAC address, etc etc.. As soon as I am done configuring I can connect to the repeater just fine (verified by checking the MAC address im connected to). The issue is that within 15 minutes the connection drops and I cant reconnect to either the repeater or the wifi router. as soon as I unplug the repeater i connect to the router just fine. ive set all configurations properly, set the channels, etc, and after 15 minutes it stops connecting.Im returning this unit.

As mentioned by others, this is a great product with horrible instructions. There is another reviewer below that states how to set this up. His 6 paragraphs need to be included in the instructions sent by ZyXEL. Once set up, it works great.

Really like this little unit, especially how it can be used as an access point, repeater or bridge. Setup was fairly straightforward on my network with a ZyWall VPN/Firewall. Good range and there are decent antennas for a reasonable price. That being said, why not just buy another unit and use it as another access point/repeater?My one complaint is the firmware does not support locking our clients from the device configuration interface (a web page). You should be able to specify a network IP to manage the device and deny everything else access . . . or at least change the port that the HTML configuration page is served on from 80 to something harder to guess. The lowest priced unit that Zyxel makes that supports these functions is the Zyxel NWA3160 and it costs about $150. Seems like it would be easy enough to add administrative access functions and port choice for admin pages to the 3205 as well.Other than this though . . .I really like it.

I use the ZyXEL as a bridge to bring my complex's wireless signal in and distribute it to wired ethernet equipment. For those with a technical mindset, this device is great and a breeze to set up. That said, it has one major problem: When being used as a bridge, if it is powered off, it will not automatically reconnect to to the wireless AP. You must get into the web configuration utility and "activate" the connection profile every time.Aside from that, this unit has been bulletproof. Great throughput and signal strength.
