I attempted to use this as a repeater for my FIOS wireless router. No matter what settings I used, I would lose an internet connection after about one hour. I would still have wifi, but that's it. As soon as I unplugged the router, it came back. This affected an iPad and a DVD player. The instructions didn't offer any suggestions and an internet search didn't either (just complaints of similar problems). I returned it without issue to Amazon.

If you are buying this to connect a DVD player or game player or other device in your entertainment system to a wireless network that you already have running, you need to put it in "client mode." There is now a very good online setup guide available to help you do this, at [...]. If this link doesn't work, Google on "Setting Up Client Mode" for WAP3205 or search on the document ID number which is SD-10009. This online documentation is very complete, unlike what's packed with the unit.One important thing that the detailed documentation makes clear is that you have to have to give your computer a **static** IP address in order for it to "talk to" the modem and access the detailed set-up screen -- but then you have to put it back into the **dynamic** address mode after completing the set-up, or it will not complete the connection with your wireless router. Don't forget to reset it "acquire the IP address dynamically" or it won't work.If you find that you can't get the modem to respond when trying to access it at [...] try powering the modem off and on. If that doesn't work, you might need to restart you computer after entering the static IP address, and again after resetting it to a dynamic IP address.O

I wanted to wirelessly connect a TV satellite box to the 'net. This does that, and can do other things as well. For my purposes, it needed to be configured in "Client mode" (there are three modes). The documentation is OK, but either I missed some instructions or they weren't there.After several false starts, I apparently found a good configuration, and now all is well. It's running with WPA2 security on the same channel as the primary access point, connected via CAT-5 to the satellite box, and the satellite box says it is connected to the internet.BTW: it comes with a 7-foot Cat-5 cable, and the full User's Guide is on an included CD.Build quality seems to be excellent, which is typical of ZyXel.

My wireless router is in one room, and I needed internet in my living room for my XBOX. I didn't really want to spend $80 on a wireless adapter specific to the XBOX, so I looked around for what turned out to be a "bridge." I chose this one on for two reasons:1. Cheap - $31 after $10 rebate2. Functional - Unlike most, this has 2 LAN out ports, so I could not only hook up my XBOX, but also have an extra to connect to my DVR when I want to order PPV, or hook up to my Blu-Ray or TV for firmware updates.My experience with connection wireless networks is that it is usually a bigger pain than it should be, and this fell right into that category. I don't blame this bridge itself, just wireless network creation in general. I read the previous posts with the warning of setting a static IP. The manual also tells you to do this, just not how. After some googling around, I found out how:For Vista:Click on the "Start" sphereClick "Network"Click "Network and Sharing Center" at the topClick "Manage Network Connections" in the left menu barRight click on "Local Area Connection" and go to propertiesDouble Click "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" (Or right click, "Properties")Select "Use the following IP Address" and put in an IP greater than 192.168.1.2 (I did 192.168.1.8)Subnet Mask will auto-populate to 255.255.255.0That's all you need, then "OK" your way out.Opened internet explorer, typed "http://192.168.1.2"...nothing. Turns out you have to give it a few minutes. It finally worked. Got in, follow the User Guide to set it to "Client Mode," found my network, and added it. I didn't know the security my new Verizon Wireless provided router was (turns out its the basic 64bit WEP if you have it), so that added to my confusion.It didn't work right away. I don't know why, but I spun in circles for an hour with different security settings, different cables, etc. In the end, I went back to my original setup, and it worked. Not sure why, but I'd suggest to just give it time.I didn't have to do anything special to the XBOX and it connected to Xbox Live without any issues.I hope this helps. In the end, great product for the money (so far). The issues in connecting it are consistent with previous experience in connecting any wireless components. This item and documentation was not any worse than others in my opinion.

Using with a LG Bluray network device, primarily for netflix on my hdtv. Difficult to set-up but works great once connected to the network. I could connect to my router using the instructions here & elsewhere, but after that I could no establish a connection to the internet. I eventually had to roll back my router settings to factory default and set up the network again. Not sure what the issue was, but maybe that is advice that might help someone.If I had this to over, I would have tried WPS from my router in order to establish the connection. I think it would have been easier ... or had least let me know where the problem was from the beginning. I wasted hours trying to get this up and running.

At half the price of the adapter that Sony sells, this is a real bargain. This one works as advertised. But you better be tech-savvy, because it takes a lot of effort just to install it. Luckily, there's a couple of reviewers out there who have put out extensive instructions on how to do it. Thanks to them, my experience was less painful. Once you get it to work, it does what it is supposed to do, that is among other things, and depending on what you have, access to Netflix and YouTube. I have a modestly priced Sony Blu Ray player that is connected to it and can now view content on a large screen TV. As to the claim that it can strengthen signals in certain parts of the house due to signal loss issues, I have not seen any improvements in signal that can be attributed to this device. Maybe I just misunderstood this claim so I would not hold that against the manufacturer.

Bought this item and it died after about 9 months so sent back to manufacturer. They sent me a refurbished unit as a replacement. Also learned this unit isn't fully compatible with many wireless routers. Check first before you buy!

I bought this unit to use a network bridge with a Sony Blu Ray player. Sony recommended using a Linksys bridge, but it had bad reviews and was very expensive, so I decided to try this.First off, I'll say that this thing is magnificent once it's set up. I have no problem streaming movies from Netflix and doing whatever other online tasks via my Blu Ray player. It is a great buy, and from what I see, functions even better than a Linksys or other brand. I'd never heard of this brand before, but as with a lot of electronic accessories, brand is misleading (ahem, Monster, ahem).The main struggle with this unit is the documentation. It's awful, and if you want to use this as a network bridge, the only way you'll figure it out (aside from being an expert with this stuff) is by reading the Amazon review with the step-by-step instructions for setting it up as a bridge. It was because of that that I was able to get it up and running in two tries. Otherwise, I would have been sitting there all day trying to figure it out.So 5 stars because of value for the money, and functionality once it's set up.

Very useful and reliable product that includes 3 WiFi devices in one. I bought 2 units, one for broadcasting WiFi signal and another for converting WiFi back to regular Ethernet network cable connection. You can choose any of these modes, or 3rd mode called "Repeater" that receives and rebroadcasts WiFi broadcast thus extending WiFi range. Extending the range is actually done by receiving WiFi signal from one SSID network name and re-broadcasting on another SSID. You can use the same SSID names but in such case you'd need to select a different channel for each one, plus an extra channel for extended bandwidth (thus practically using 2 channels for each WiFi network). Your wireless device like a phone or laptop will automatically switch to the network or channel with the strongest signal, thus there isn't a difference whether using a single network name or two different ones.In my case I have some devices like a TV that cannot receive WiFi signal but can be connected to Internet via regular network cable, therefore I used two WAP3205s to extend my regular network wiring wirelessly.

A factor in my decision to purchase this access point was all the complaints about poor documentation and the difficult set up (I prefer to be challenged). It came with tons of documentation, but I did not even look at. Even so, the set up took less than three minutes; I keep waiting for the "hard part," but it never came. All the reviews that rave about the excellent functionality of this access point are spot on, but the reviews that complain about the difficult set up... those reviews could not be further from the truth.

At first I liked this AP, as it seemed to be working well. Then I noticed that my backups of wireless clients have been failing since I installed it. Now as I continue to test it I see clearly that all machines that are connected to this AP get dropped from the workgroup constantly, with no pattern I can discern (typically 2 to 60 minutes from when the net connection is re-acquired, either through renewing a DHCP lease or rebooting the machine). This happens on two different computers and only occurs with machines connected through this AP.Also, a side note - I should have noticed this beforehand, but the LAN side only has 100mbps. There's less of an advantage to running "N" if your LAN speed is going to be a bottleneck. This isn't a problem if all your clients are wireless, but most of my network is still wired, so the most I can get from wired to wireless is 100mbps regardless of the wireless connection speed.

Great product which does a great job. I had some dificulty setting it up and called Zytel. They were helpful and walked me thru the process. I was stiffed of the $10 rebate however as advertised.

I bought one WAP3205 to connect a web-enabled datalogger to a wireless network. It worked fine, and has been operating flawlessly.Then I bought two of these devices to connect a hard wired network in one building to a device in a nearby building (with one WAP3205 in "access point mode" and the other in "client mode". This worked fine initially, but that only lasted for a day and a half, after which point the connection went dead. It seems to come back to life when I unplug them then plug them back in, but it will only operate for a little while before going dead again.I have tried repositioning the devices to get a stronger signal between the two transmitters, but that doesn't seem to be helping. Perhaps one of the WAP3205s is faulty. I don't know, but it sure has been a hassle trying to get it to work. This is a bit of an unusual installation, so most folks probably wouldn't run into this problem.

I had read the advice and directions found in the top amazon reviews and knew that setup could be difficult.Unfortunately, I tried to skip a step (finding out the channel on my current wifi) and spent an hour troubleshooting before I went back to the beginning and followed step by step.After this, everything worked perfectly and has been absolutely reliable.Follow the directions and you should be fine.

Got this one to extend my Airport extreme range and to get a ethernet conection for some devices. This works like charm. My Apple router is 6o feet away. This has improved the wireless range. I did some testing on my iPad with this router off and on with speedtest.net. The download speed difference is 20 mbps from earlier 4 mbps on wireless for iPad.

Easy to name and assign an IP. The WPS button is great. I'm using them primarily for transferring pictures from Eye-fi SD cards to the network and they are both working great.

I was hoping to set up my first 802.11n network using this unit, but I was horrified to find out that it simply blocks IPv6 router advertisements. Using tcpdump, I logged the entire process, and it ONLY blocks the router advertisements. The router solicitations make it through just fine.I'm going to return this. The many years old, now-dead out Linksys WAP (802.11b only) I was using didn't block anything. I'd rather go without wireless than without IPv6.

I purchased this device to connect a DirectTV DVR and my 2010 Samsung Internet capable TV. $40 for this device instead of paying for two $80 wifi dongles seemed like a no-brainer.After following the setup advice outlined in the top comment, I was able to get it up and running fairly easily and the DirectTV box had no problem connecting through it, and I could connect a laptop through it and access the network with no problem. The TV would also see various DNLA devices in my home (both the DirectTV box, and my computer). I could also ping the TV and see traffic from the TV to my router.But alas, when I did the Network Test through the TV, it would always fail on the "Gateway Ping" step and I couldn't get past it.Samsung support was worthless, But Zyxel email support was outstanding.After some back and forth with Zyxel, the magic configuration on the TV was as follows: 1) Set the connection type to wired, 2) Set the network information to *Manual* (auto didn't work). 3) Enter a valid IP number from your network that won't be reused by your DHCP features in your router (eg 192.168.1.240). Enter a netmask of 255.255.255.0 (typical, might differ for your network), and the key was to enter the IP address of your WAP3205 as your gateway IP address (eg 192.168.1.2), *not* the IP address of your actual wifi gateway.Once I did that, I passed all of the TV tests and everything worked great.

I ordered this product thinking its an N repeater but it's notit drop signals and can't reach the speed more than 54 mb/s what ever you do.this product can receive N signals from any router but it can't send N signalsit send only G or B signal.those should be in the description.I gave this product one star since they shipped it in a weight more than 2 poundsand that cost me another one pound cost for shipping from USA to my country Oman via Aramix

After trying three different bridges/routers I finally got one that worked. Okay minor gripes first It does not have a separate WLAN port just two ports marked lan1 and lan2 which can be confusing initially. As an access point you would only have 1 lan port for wired devices. Thats a bit of a stretch calling this a router even though you have wireless routing to any number of devices. Since I wanted it for the bridge/client mode this was no issue for me. Setting up client mode was a breeze Just set pc adapter to 192.168.1.3 login to wap3205 and go to expert and change from access to client mode. Go to site survey and scan for wireless networks and select yours. Input the passphrase and thats it. Disconnect from the pc and if youre lazy like me when you reattach the cable from your router just do a repair and let win7 reassign the ip. I went to my directv dvr and blueray player and both were connected immediately. I use PLAYON to stream vidoes and internet content with no problems. AS a bridge this works perfectly.

In my opinion the instructions weren't great. I called ZyXEL support and got help. Once I walked through it with the person on the phone then the instructions made sense. Now since I got it working everything has been great. I have wired internet in my house where previously I only had wireless. I've been able to connect devices like a blu ray player and wd tv live that didn't have built in wireless network cards. I've been streaming Netflix movies and have not had any glitches. I would recommend this device.

I am not a hacker but I do understand the network concepts and until now, I could make all my net gadgets work, from wireles routers to wireless server printers.But this product has a very bad written manual and simply don't have any type of support. I am still trying to install it. I am using the forum where people acts as voluntary.There are a review showing some steps that simply show you the most basic form of instalation, when you have a cable where connect the device to your network. If you want to extend by wireless, it is a totally distinct instalation process and will not work.Even extend by cable the instalation is very difficult.edit. I changed my rate because of the product support. Once I find it they addressed my problems and even send me a new manual.

We have a printer that needed to be wireless so we could access it with our laptops anywhere in the house. Documentation was awful and outdated. Setup required about a 30 minute call with Zyxel customer support. They were helpful and patient and did get it to work with the home network. Now, I can print anywhere. I am thrilled.
