I bought this to use as a repeater to get move coverage. I spent hours on it myself, then went thru everything with tech support. They said I had it setup correctly and it must not be compatible with my Uverse wireless router. If you have Uverse, don't buy this unit.

Having read the reviews, I thought this would be a great way to avoid Sony's dongle. Well this doesn't work with all modems. Call the company before you buy. I have an ATT 2WIRE238.

I need to connect an XBox 360 in the basement - my wireless router (Linksys WRT54G) in the first floor den. My Blu-Ray, TV, DVR are in the family room 1st floor 50 feet from the Linksys router.Plan is to connect the ethernet port (wired) on my Blu-Ray and on my DVR to the ZyXEL device and have the XBox receive wirelessly.So, will it reach from the DVR and Blu-Ray in the family room into the basement 100 feet and 1 floor down to the XBox? Do I need a wireless dongle on the Xbox to get the signal?Thanks in advance for your reply.Tony

I bought this to bridge my wired blu-ray player with my Linksys wireless network (WRT300N). So far it is doing an awesome job with streaming netflix etc, and boosts the wireless signal downstairs for my laptop. Directions, at first, are a but starange but after looking through it for a few it came all together. I highly recommend this product!!!

Great router for the price. I purchased this to install a wireless bridge to my kids XBOX 360 in the basement (I chose to avoid the wiring). The router is roughly 1/2 the price of the XBOX 360 wireless receiver, and has extra ports to allow future expansion for things like Blu-Ray or other devices. I also figured I could use the universal repeater mode to extend our wireless signal further throughout the house. The setup was difficult though. All computers in my home are wireless, which meant that the ethernet ports that the router required were on a different IP / subnet than expected by the router for initial setup. In the end, I had to disable my wireless card on an XP machine, set the IP address / subnet of the ethernet card by hand to 192.168.1.3 / 255.255.255.0 to be able to talk to the router (note - the how-to on this IS in the documentation). Once I was able to "log onto" the router, I used the documentation to set it up in "client mode" (wireless bridge mode). I then had to set my ethernet card back to "obtain an IP address automatically" in order to get the internet up and running on my computer. I then unplugged the device and hooked it up to the XBOX 360 for a successful XBOX Live session.In the end, this device is very capable and really inexpensive. Hopefully, my notes above will help you get through the process a little faster. I have not braved the universal repeater mode yet. One other note - one buyer indicated that they had to permanently set their IP addresses. I only had to do that to talk to the router on setup, after that, all IP addresses were automatic.

DirecTV DVR only has wired Ethernet connection, and 2010 Samsung plasma TV can do wired or wireless. Samsung wireless LAN USB adapter is over $60. Bought Zyxel WAP 3205 with two Ethernet connections to connect both DVR and TV with my home wifi network (Netgear /b/g/n router). Downloaded newer user manual and firmware upgrade from Zyxel website. Configured device in client mode to communicate wirelessly with home network and plugged Ethernet cables into both DVR and TV. Then the only tricky part was setup of the network addresses. Both DVR and TV use their own specific IP addresses and the 255,255,255,0 mask. Also, they both use 192.168.1.1 (Netgear router) for the DNS address. But the DVR also used the Netgear router address for the Gateway IP, while the Samsung TV used 192.168.1.2 (WAP3205 client) for the Gateway IP. After figuring this out by trial and error, both work well with good network speed. Finally, the Zyxel device was over $20 cheaper than just the Samsung LAN adapter and supports two Ethernet connected devices.

I'm using the ZyXEL as a extender for my wireless network. It's supporting some entertainment devices such as a Wii, a blu-ray player and DS-Lite gaming. It's ability to support the separate security needs of these devices is an unexpected plus certainly for the price. The GUI is not that intuitive and it could be improved but once it's configured it works well.

I was needing to connect a remote network device to my network that only had a cat5 connector, and I was not able to run a cat5 cable back to my router without a lot of difficulty. The ZyXEL WAP3205 hit a home run. I configured it in the Client mode, and I was able to connect my remote device to my existing network. Saved a whole lot of time. Would definitely recommend this product.

Configuration described in documentation does not work for me. Some ISPs, like Comcast, require router functionality. That's because there is only one IP address issued for modem link, and either access point, either my computer can be online, not both. That makes wireless non-working.I have returned this one, and bought another ZyXEL AP+Router and it Just Works(c)

This WAP3205 works perfectly. Followed the written instructions in "jimsrod" review and I had it working in 10 minutes. Now I can watch all kinds of movies, video and other media right on my Sony Bravia with no hassles.For $50 you cannot beat this unit.

After reading some of the other reviews for this product, I was a bit apprehensive until I read a reply to a review here stating that the manufacturer had completely re-written the user's manual.The new manual is extremely easy to follow, and in no more than 10 minutes, I had the device connected to my Belkin wireless router bridging my connection to my LG Blu-Ray player, and watching instant streaming movies from Netflix.This is easily one of the best purchases I've made, and it gets daily use.

I think most of you have followed J. Ferguson "jimsrod"'s review setting up the wireless bridge method. However, I just want to add more info in case anyone of you encountered the problem I had.My old router: Netgear WNR834M Firmware Version 1.1.15NAProblem encounter:I followed all the steps from "jimsrod", yet I still could not connect to internet, what went wrong?Solution:If you have WPA key, be sure to watch out. ZyXEL WAP3205 will have hard time to communicate if the router set a security key with "WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]".Please set the router to more simple security key with either only TKIP style or AES style, do not set it as a combination. It won't work. (Took me 4 hours to figure out)When you setup the profile, in order to make sure it's working, please go to Profile tabs ( or look into your User's Guide Pg. 57), there are 2 icons you should know. If your key is simple and easy to access, it will have a green background with a check, and if it's too complicated, a red background with a check will shown.Hope this help some of you out.Have fun~

The WAP3205 seems to function well in client mode. However, when I tested the repeater mode I spent some time looking for a way to specify a second channel number for communication with clients of the WAP3205. A ZYXEL representative replied to my inquiry by confirming my conclusion that all wireless communication is done on the same channel. So, if I needed to use the repeater mode, I would connect a suitable wireless router to the WAP3205 and set the router to use a second channel. The writer of the documentation even wrote (tongue in cheek?) that two wireless subsystems near each other should use two different channels. Fortunately, I didn't buy the device to function in repeater mode. As the first setup step, I would recommend assigning an alternate IP address. Otherwise, if you want addresses assigned by the server and a setup error keeps the device from connecting to the server, you have to reset it to factory default settings and start over. It seems that any valid IP address will work for the alternate, but I used an address that is valid for my LAN with the last number being one that is easy to remember.

Use the Amazon website for documentation. Had to have someone else that understands the IT stuff better then I do hook it up. Once hooked up, it works fine.

I read the reviews on Amazon before I purchased this item, and was prepared for some extra effort in setting up this item. After it arrived I spent about 5 hours trying to get it to work, but no success. I am familiar with networks, routers, switches, etc., and have a "technical" background, but this item and its documentation are among the worst I've seen. I followed the steps in the documentation, as well as what others had written (and posted on Amazon), but it never worked as advertised. I wanted to set it up as a wireless bridge.After 5 hours I gave up. How much is one's time worth? I returned the item, and purchased an Airport extreme instead. Certainly a big difference in initial purchase price, but within 10 minutes of unboxing the AE, I had it up and running.

I spent several hours trying to configure this little fellow until I stumbled upon the amazon reviews which pointed me in the correct direction. It seems that with my router (linksys wrt350n) I cannot get Universal Repeater mode to function with WPA2 and WPA. I switched to Access Point mode in WEP and everything worked perfectly. I'm a little frustrated that UR mode failed to work with WPA2 and WPA, but for where I live WEP will suffice. If you are having trouble getting it to work with high security, try WEP. WEP gets a lot of bad press, but if you take other precautions you generally have nothing to fear.

I needed a bridge to connect to a wireless set top box. This device was the best price I could get - but later found another offer for $10 lesser than this. Saves running a long Ethernet cable.

Amazon processed and shipped promptly. Configuring it, however, was a different story. After banging my head against a wall for an hour I called Zyxel Tech Support to troubleshoot it. They confirmed that the unit was Dead on Arrival. I'm now screwed and must wait a month or so for Amazon to refund my cost, less my shipping expense, however. DO NOT BUY!

I highly recommend this device if you are looking for something to allow you to extend your home network, hook up a wireless printer etc. Super fast throughput. The only real downside is the setup. Make sure that you've saved a couple examples from these forums before you go messing around with setup, as you will invariably lose internet connectivity and you'll have to rely on what you have on the screen or saved to a document. It's not that difficult to do, but you just need to pay attention.

The quick guide is a joke. The 208 page online manual has way too much information. If it wasn't the instructions from another reviewer, I would have ended up returning this item, but with his instructions I was able to set it up in about a half hour. Now it works great. I've been using computers since 1982, and have built about 10-15 computers during that time. There is no reason this item needs to be so difficult to install, but the price is great and once installed it works.

The item received did not work properly and had to be returned for replacement ($15.00 out of pocket for UPS shipping). The 2nd unit works fine. The OTHER problem is the documentation left a lot to be desired and I had to call the customer support line (not easy to find number), and they had to email me specific instructions about how to set it up in "client mode" (one of the 3 advertised options but no directions in the box). Gratefully, they have great customer service but all this work to get a $40 item working??? I'm grading it "IMPROVEMENT NEEDED"

Follow the instructions left by Mr. Ferguson (most recommended review for this product) and it's easy peasy to set up.I use this as a wireless access point for my Blu Ray player and it works great.It gets 4 stars because without the instructions by Mr. Ferguson, I probably would have had a booger of a time setting this thing up.

I bought this bridge primarily for my Xbox360. Expand the network with the second port to stream movies from media server. Doesn't stream very well. Use my laptop to compare connection and stream. Setup my laptop as a bridge and was able to stream DVD quality movies without lag, but with the Zyxel bridge, there were significant lag. Don't bother with HD with this bride.I agree with all other comments on documentation and initial setup. Very poor docs and initial setup. Also, can't tell from the management UI the actual wireless connection speed. Always shows "300" even if i limit my router connection to 54MB or 145MB. Should be able to stream DVD quality movies and HD if connection rate is 300MB.

I echo those who said the documentation was pretty poor for this item, took me about 6 hours of trial and error before I got it working right. I even read the reviews that told me I had to set the channel to be the same as the router I was repeating and I still couldn't get it to work. Ultimately, I got it to work when I stopped using WEP security for client access to the router (I was using WEP just to be in line with the security I was using on the router I was repeating) and switched to WPA. I still used WEP for the interface between the repeater and the router I was repeating, but switching to WPA on the repeater to client security settings finally did the trick. Now that it is up and working, I have a great extension of my wireless network (needed to get my Bravia TV online but my primary router is in a close upstairs) and the performance is solid.
