I had very high hopes for the access point based on the reviews I read before, it shipped very fast and arrived in few days through UPS, unfortunately after configuring it, which was done quite easily I was never able to connect to it.To be fair, this might be due to my setup but I am not sure so I am giving 3 stars only

Used it on Universal Repeater mode, and placed it next to my computer to get full signal when I usually only get 2-3 bars. Gets dropped connection every once and a while which is a good enough reason for me to get my $50 back. worked well for 2 days though but I eventually just unplugged it since I can use the slow but reliable modem that I have.

Instruction manual is a joke. Like giving a recipe: "Make a sauce. Season it." Online YouTubes offer some relief. MAC users beware, one needs a bit of skill making settings adjustments and undoing them after.

I am thinking about purchasing the ZyXel 3205 wifi signal booster in order to gain internet access via a wifi hotspot about 50 yards away from my apartment. Judging from the other reviews I'm under the impression that there may be a necessity to gain access to a number of features of the router from which I'm attempting to gain internet access before I will be able to do so. My question, if I were to set this product up would I be able to boost the wifi signal from the local hotspot without knowing the various settings and ID numbers of the router? Please help.

Couldn't get the unit to work. I talked to a couple IT people about the problem and they said ZyXEL is known for producing inferior products. I don't recommend buying this product.

We returned this item because it was not easy to setup. Too many choices as to how to set up, in what configuration etc.

I have a new garage built about 125 feet from my home. Trying to get wifi to work from my home was very poor. Followed iifo to set up and now have four bars and my laptop works great in the garage. It has been running for two months now just great. If you need to increase you wifi this one works for me.

ZyXEL 300 Mbps Wireless N Access Point, Ethernet Client, Universal Repeater, and Range Extender (WAP3205)I just received this yesterday (Prime) and had it working in about five minutes. After using the advice from JFerguson on getting into the device, everything was pretty automatic. I don't think I would have figured out "client" mode as my choice. I bought this to see if my LG Smart TV 55LW5600 would be able to use the wired connection. The wireless connection has been just about worthless as it doesn't work most of the time (LG replaced the board to which the USB dongle connects and is now sending me a new dongle). Although I was aware of this type of device (used it to connect a cart of wireless laptops to the wired connection), it never entered my mind that it is what I needed and at a cost I could afford. I had been looking into power line connections, but they are much more costly. I set it up, connected my tv and a non-wireless Samsung blu ray player and both work great. Even though the price of this device is $3. less than when I ordered it, I still think I got a great deal. If you have any non-wireless devices you need to connect to your wifi router that is rooms away from the device, this may be just what you need.

WAP3205 works great! Has excellant range extension for my network.Only drawback was I needed more detail on the hookup, as I thought it was much simpler than it is. The people in Zyxel support are great and were very good in helping me get connected. I needed additional help in establishing the IP addresses and then it was a breeze!When I lose power, I sometimes must go back to the install to reconnect, but not always-go figure!.

There are better devices on the market that are not as bulk for what it does. That being said, the product is good, performs as advertised, and is priced well. Easy to configure as either a bridge or an AP. Works well as an extender, too.

I just set this product up last night. I was a little apprehensive, given previous reviews on setup...but given a reviewer (J. Ferguson "jimsrod") already excellently detailed initial setup - I was up and broadcasting in under 10 minutes ! I am using this with a Belkin ShareMAX N300 Wireless Router, in a 3 floor, 13 room house. I set my Zytel WAP3205 up as a Wireless Repeater (Extender), which was already enabled.I set the device about halfway through the house where the signal was just 2-3 bars and was amazed at the instant "boost" of wireless signal.I wanted to be able to keep it on the same subnet as my Belkin Wireless LAN for future viewing and configuration and set the Zytel's IP within my Wireless LAN's range of 192.168.2.2-192.168.2.20. The caveat is you need to be SURE you set it to an UNUSED IP or you will have to reset the device and start from scratch.I also loved the MAC address filtering allowing me to exclude my "weekend warrior guest" MAC's (you can get from your router) from using this device and hogging my bandwidth.I may buy another one just for my Wii !All in all excellent product and excellent price. It is half the price of other "named" wireless extenders !

It was quite easy to set up and really useful. i love it now I can actually game online on my ps3 which was in the basement and too far from the router. and its a great price as well!

Initially had trouble setting this up with my mac and medialink router in universal repeater mode.1. change ip to 198.162.1.32. connect zyxel to router and mac via ethernet cables.3. use 192.168.1.2 to configure the zyxel repeater and choose your wireless network from the list, NOTE THE CHANNEL, MINE WAS 11.4. then go back into zyxel setup in expert mode confirm the ssid and password, didn't enter mac address, and set it to appropriate channel, i kept my medialink router on auto channel but i had to set this to ch 11 to work properly.5. select universal repeater mode and hit apply.6. Under the maintenance setting, CHANGE THE IP ADDRESS OF THE ZYXEL TO A HIGHER NUMBER, i used 192.168.1.47. CHANGE YOUR PC BACK TO ORIGINAL IP ADDRESS.8. disconnect zyxel from laptop and router.So far it works great as a repeater, the streaming on my xbox is fast and crisp, went to speedtest.net and internet connection was at 22mbps, before was averaging 13-17 mbps-i have comcast high speed internet using a surfboard sb6120 modem.

I have a house with a detached garage and an office/library in a large room over it. The signal strength from my router was weak to non-existent, and certainly not useable. I took an old Linksys router (my third Linksys item; the first two simply died at certain points) and installed the dd-wrt firmware to set up a wireless bridge. This gave me a network in the garage room that would bridge to the network in the house, thereby giving me internet connectivity. Whenever I brought a computer over there, I had to make sure I was connected to the proper network, but it worked. Until the Linksys died.In the house I had replaced a dead Linksys with a Belkin N+ router (I was leery as I don't tend to think of Belkin for this kind of product but the thing has been rock solid and offered many more features for the price). I bought a second one and tried to bridge again but it was squirrely; each time I tried to change the IP address, I would lose the ability to connect to it. Sometimes it would come back after a half hour or so, sometimes not. After too many resets I took it back.Then I bought the Zyxel. Set up took only a few minutes and I have full strength connectivity for the first time in my office. The instructions were simple and required no special or in depth networking knowledge. The steps that some reviewers have included are the same ones that are in the tiny start up booklet that came with the unit.I had one hiccup where after I uninstalled a few programs, the internet access, while showing full connectivity and speed, was crawling to the point of being unusable. Rebooting the computer didn't help but cycling the Zyxel did. Since then, it's been perfect, so hopefully that was a fluke.So for forty bucks, if you need to do something like I did, it couldn't be easier to set up and use, and I recommend it hightly.

I knew in advance - thanks to the Amazon reviews - that this one might be a bit of a project to set up, but realistically, with every single item in my media set-up requiring an internet connection (smart TV, blu-ray, satellite, etc), I just couldn't spend the money for a proprietary wireless adapter for each device (or run a handful of cables so that everything is connected).As everyone says, setting up this little piece of machinery is no walk in the park. The documentation that comes in the box is just plain unhelpful. However, one of the reviews here detailed exactly how to go about not killing myself in my quest to save a few bucks. It'll be fairly obvious which review you need, so I won't belabor the point, but taking a reading of said review in advance might be useful in ascertaining whether you want to buy this little piece of machinery.Once I got everything working, though, things work just dandy and fine. I haven't experienced dropped signals or weakened signals or anything of that ilk. The two machines running off the ethernet ports have had no issues at all (to be fair, one is a DirecTV set-up that I don't really use the Internet functions enough to really put the signal through it's paces so it's really more that the blu-ray player works dandy and fine).My gripe (other than the documentation) about the WAP3205 is that there are only two ethernet ports. Now, that's my problem in terms of not checking in advance how many ports I'd be getting, so no stars were knocked off for that. However, for anyone who's got a set-up like mine where everything without built-in WiFi or didn't come with an adapter requires additional proprietary hardware, you might also consider investing in WiFi adapters that run off the ethernet port (using the USB port for power only). Those are truly universal and another option if you've got, say, three machines needing WiFi adapters.

Easy to take for granted when something works, especially if its easy. I had been using a Linksys RE1000 range extender. Its incredibly easy and fast to setup and use, the network is fast, coverage is great. But I thought the Zyxel WAP3205 would give me more flexibility, allowing it to be used as an access point as well.Unfortunately, its not able to connect at all to the network I'm trying to extend. Apparently, having spaces in the SSID throws it for a loop and it isn't able to connect.Besides that the setup, even if it worked, is insanely complex, requiring you to manually setup manual IP addresses on the machine you're using to configure the WAP3205. The software itself seems very slow, reception is questionable.Overall seems like a very poor product. Maybe it works for some people, but I'd generally advise to stay clear. Its not worth the trouble.

Received this today and experienced what many other have written. The documentation is poor and it took 2 calls to technical support to get the device working. Then when I got it working I found out that as long as you use devices within 10 feet of the ZyXel it works ok. As you get past that distance, the performance drops off rapidly to the point it's like not even having the access point. I'm very disappointed in this product! It's worth about $10 or $15 based on it's performance. I would consider something else!

For some reason this unit doesn't consistently maintain the connection in repeater mode. Every so often I have to re-program it in order to get it working again.

We were having such a terrible connection on the 2nd floor with Verizon Fios wireless router and needed to get this wireless to add to our existing one and it works wonders. my daughter no longer looses connection on her iphone and computer in her room. I would recommend this product to anyone who has the Verizon Fios and has a problem with there wireless to get this product. works great.

This is great wifi access point. This unit replaced a dlink dap-2553. I'm so happy I replaced it with this AP. It does take a bit to configure but this is my 6th one I've set up so it's a breeze now. I highly recommend it. Only concern I have is the guest vlan doesn't seem to work as defined. It should only allow devices connected to access the internet and not the local network. Unfortunately when connected to the guest network I can still ping devices on the local lan. Besides that I'm extremely pleased with these units. I agree with the other reviews that there documentation is a bit lacking but I've been using there products for years now and couldn't be happier with the price and there quality.
