This router was well worth the dollar however, not recommended for basic or novice users to setup. The router is very confusing to setup using a special ip config that standard to most routers. Use with caution when purchasing this product.

I bought three of these to try to expand my WIFI signal throughout my house. I tried them in both "Repeater mode" and "Access point mode". They would not work properly. My devices would try to obtain an IP address but would not get one. All I wanted was to expand my coverage but they wouldn't work properly. I knew i shouldve went with a NETGEAR product. Oh well. These will now sit in a box until I can make use of them.

Great piece of kit, worked out of the box, has boosted our wireless signal tremendously. I will buy another for sure, UK customers will get US plug so adapter needed, also tried to order another and having problems with shipping address now?

I purchased the ZyXEL WAP3205 in September 2011 with some trepidation given all the reviews indicating that the documentation was bad and that it was hard to set up. However, mine came with a CD containing a detailed users guide (not perfect but very useful) and the set up procedure has evidently been greatly improved since those negative reviews. As a novice in these matters, I was nervous at the thought of changing my computer's IP address to a static address in order to access the device through a browser. But it turned out to be quite easy with considerable help from the useful Amazon reviews for this product and a few minutes research on Google.I needed to use the WAP3205 as a 'universal repeater' and the rest of the set up was very simple - provided you allowed the ZyXEL to duplicate precisely the settings of the access point or wireless gateway it was extending (Same SSID, security settings, channel etc - don't worry, it does it all for you). In 10 minutes or so, I had completed the set up and had wireless access throughout our entire - fairly large - house.I did later run into a problem that I would never have solved by consulting the user's guide but thanks to a review on these pages, it was easily corrected. I decided that I wanted to label the signal from the Zyxel with a different SSID and password which took a little more experimentation. Mistakenly, I followed what I thought to be the manufacturers recommendation and set the channel on 'auto'. With this setting, my laptop could detect the signal but could not connect. Fortunately, I remembered a reviewer pointing out that the outgoing signal (sorry, wrong term) from the device has to be set to use the same channel as the access point. Once I corrected for that, everything worked perfectly.All in all, the ZyXEL was remarkably inexpensive and does exactly what I needed it to do - greatly extend the range of my wireless signal for guests who are in an upstairs room at the other end of the house.Even if you are a rank beginner like me, provided you have a little patience and are intrigued by a modest challenge, I warmly recommend this device.

Because of the reviews I had checked on-line, I was looking for the Zyxel, however since none of my local brick and mortar stores carried this brand I tried a couple of units that their staff recommended. I had my doubts, but I was in a hurry to get something working. Well, I got nothing but frustration and returned the store bought units and went ahead with the on-line purchase of the Zyxel. It arrived within a couple of days and the setup was a breeze. I've had it for a couple of months now, and so far, no issues.

I find the more advanced technology gets, the stupider I am. But this product was easy. Out of the box and set up in fifteen minutes and worked the first time.I'm using it as a range extended and access point (yes, it can do both simultaneously) and my signal is stronger than ever and all my living room networked electronics are streaming, and in HD. If your broadband is in the library and you can't hard wire your den (like me), and those electric wire adapter/solutions just don't seem to work consistently because of the age of your house wiring, then this is a good solution. Hook it up to a switch and it easily powers 6 streaming devises and rebroadcasts a strong wi-fi signal for your iPad or laptop.Highly recommended, and try to find a similar solution at a lower price...can not be done.EDIT-- about six months after I got this I got a new modem, and no matter what I have done I can't seem to get the computer to go back to the set up page so I can attach to the new modem. All I get is an error message saying the address doesn't exist. when it was working it was great, but now, what good is it?

My son and daughter-in-law gave me a blu-ray player for Christmas, but my system was not powerful enough to use it for the internet movies. We found this on line and it takes care of the problem. We can now fully enjoy our movies fully, in the comfort of my home. This fills the bill completely.

I am a network/systems administrator so the configuration was fairly simple and straight forward, quick. Seems to have good range for what I need and fairly cheap considering all the features.

I was unsuccessful in setting this up as a universal repeater. After several days of reading all of the hints here and the Zyxel FAQ I finally called their support number. My problem was very simple to fix, but it was not mentioned anywhere in the literature. Basically, your network name (SSID) cannot have a space in it. Mine did (e.g., home 54g). Once I renamed the SSID to remove the space, it set up like a charm in just a few minutes.

IAM SURE THE PRODUCT IS GOOD BUT BOUGHT IT FOLLOWED THE INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS TO THE TEE, I JUST COULDNT GET IT TO FUNCTION, CALLED MANUFACTURER AND COULDNT GET A LIVE PERSON HAD TO DO ALL DISCUSSIONS OVER EMAIL, STILL SITTING IN THE CLOSET NOT BEING USED AND IN FACT JUST MOVED THE WIFI ROUTER TO A DIFFERENT LOCATION CENETERED IN THE HOUSE AND THAT WORKED JUST AS WELL SHOULD HAVE SENT OT BACK FOR CREDIT BUT LIVE AND LEARN, I SAY KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING BEFORE YOU BUY AS THE SUPPORT IS LIMITED

Bought this product and couldn't get it to workI've contacted the support team via e-mail ask them to call me and just got an e-mail back saying to call them.I'm going to give it a last try and if it doesn't work return the item.

I'm a tech saavy guy and I can't get this thing to work. I can get it to extend the range, but then I can't connect to the internet, so just a waste of money at this point.

cannot figure out how to use it - returning it a waste of time because they charge a restocking fee that is about 1/2 of the cost of the item - uggh

Well first off I don't believe this product is for anyone as it is very difficult to set up. Everything needs to be set up manually and you will definitely need some kind of networking skills. Even logging into its setup page was a task to get into so I would definitely think twice about getting it if you have no networking skills. Product documentation isn't very helpful but it does come supplied with a disc that has in depth details about the product and how to setup. Well I am using my ZyXEL WAP3205 as a universal range extender and my router is actually my Evo 3D from Sprint. I noticed my throughput speeds were very slow since I have my phone in kitchen for best 4G reception and my PS3 in front room. Well PS3 has a cheap wifi built in that is rather useless and is much better to hardwire it the only problem with that is my Evo 3D doesn't have a ethernet connection port. I used this device as a repeater and connected via ethernet and now I get 5 1/2 Mb connection speeds on my PS3 and laptop is noticeably faster when I am further away so the wifi signal is much stronger. I couldn't be happier with it but I did have a few days of frustration as it wasn't very reliable and I had to keep tweaking the settings on the repeater until I finally got everything just right and now everytime I get home I turn on hotspot mode on my phone and the zyxel picks it right up with no hassel. It is as good or better than most big name brands except without easy setup process. I had tried the Netgear WN3000RP and the thing was very unreliable constantly dropping its connection and me having to reset the device at least every 10 hours so I returned and this was my next choice which I have to say has been a great decision. I highly recommend this device only if you have some basic knowledge in networking or if you have someone who would be willing to help. The price and options it offers and even build quality can't be beat so this is definitely a worthy product and I wouldn't pass it up just because of its unknown name.

I'll start by saying that I'm a very tech savvy guy and know computers and networks pretty well. I've installed many networks and used all sorts of hardware for networks. This item looked promising, but when I actually got it, it turned out to be pretty disappointing. The setup is pretty confusing as you can tell from the multiple confused reviews, but that I can get around.I bought this device to function as a range extender on my network since I don't get wifi signal on the other side of the house. I got it setup but the problem is that I lose internet connection every 20-30 minutes. I tried everything and it's this device. It just isn't stable in range extender mode at least in my setup. Other reviews have had similar problems. I tried updating firmware which doesn't seem to help at all.I think I'm going to look for a more powerful router instead of playing with range extenders. This device was disappointing.

My WAP3250 was running within 5 minutes in repeater mode after I unpacked it, so far so good and hopeful it will last. The only thing I have to use my Kindle's amped free APPS wi-fi analytics to find out my FIOS wireless channel info to configure WAP3250. Then amped/wirelss scanner jumps to 100%,steady vs 50%-60% fluctuant if I unplugged WAP3250.

I bought this product to expand my existing wireless network's range. The base unit is a Cisco/Linksys dual-band N router that was worked great for years - it just didn't have a strong enough signal to reach from my basement to my upstairs office. This sounded like it would do the trick, but has just been a pain in the neck.1) The setup was not very intuitive. I'm an IT guy and it was a matter of a lot of trial and error getting this to work.2) The hard-wired connections on the back of the device get dropped every 30 minutes or so. Not so much of a problem on my home computer, but my work computer uses a VPN, and it's very annoying to have to log back in to the VPN.3) This is a weird one - if the power goes out, the device just stops working. I have to go back in and re-enter all the wireless settings again.This one is going back.

The setup was fairly simple and it works fine, I use it as a repeater and it does what I ask of it. It did lose it's config once, but that was some time ago and since then it has worked well.

I'm currently using this in Access Point mode. I simply plugged it into the network, connected to it with my browser, completed the configuration wizard and was good to go. Two minutes... tops. No need to use the software on the included CD. I later did some advanced configuration, again through the browser interface. I was pleased that the "special" configuration I needed was supported, no problem.Simple. Works. Inexpensive. I'm thinking of getting another to use in one of the other modes.

We have a big Texas house with the wireless router stationed in my office at the farthest end of the house. I was worried about set-up difficulties after reading lots of reviews, but this WAP3205 was incredibly easy to set up as a repeater and just eliminated all dead zones at home. MAJOR improvement for a very reasonable price.
