Bought this beacuse the one terabyte drive that I stole out of a external hard drive began to fail and would make my computer lock up for extended periods of time. I hoped that it was the hard drive, so I bought this to tell. This drive is reasonably fast for the price and is much, much quieter than the supposed "Green" 1 tb hard drive I had before. It was a little more than I hoped to pay but I wanted something reliable and reasonably fast and there is currently a hard drive shortage so all prices have been inflated. Boots Windows 7 reasonably fast and Minecraft has no problems loading chunks from the disk.

I've had this hard drive for two months in a RAID configuration in my Windows 7 computer. I works great and is very quiet. The delivery was quick and there was mininal packaging. This is exactly what I wanted.

I have never used any other Hard drive but Western Digital, and the Caviar Blue met my expectations as usual. My old Caviar Green gave exceptional service and I know I can expect the same from this one.

I love the hard discs from Western Digital. Till now I bought the WD HDD all the time. All I wanted was a minimum of 500 GB drive space in my budget for the PC and got this one.

I needed a bulk drive to finish a new build and the prices out there are crazy with the flood in Thailand. Regardless getting this drive for under 90 bucks was alright value considering the time frame. Most retailers barely even carry 7200 RPM drives and charge 90+ bucks for them. This was one of the best values out there at the time and while for the price I could have gotten a 1 TB drive a few months earlier I will live with it.The drive access speed is decent although this drive ends up being to lowest benchmark score in my Windows performance. I get a 5.9 out of it. It's very quiet despite some other reviewers. I don't hear much of anything when the drive is accessed. Overall I am very pleased and my new system is up and running with a WD which is my favorite manufacturer in HD's. This drive will serve me well until the price drop brings SSD's back to a more manageable level and then RAID 0!

The HDD SATA drive by West4ern Digital is just what I want for my system. Size and speed are a good fit for my system. Installed the day received and never looked back. Highly recommend. Buy one for yourself.

I purchased this hard drive to add as a second drive to a new computer to store an "image" of the main "C Drive" in case of a hard drive failure. This drive has performed perfectly and resulted in a very economical way of backing up my entire system including the operating system and application software. I was pleased with the price and delivery time which was exactly as stated when ordered.

My drive OEM crashed and I accidentally formatted it. Stupid, I know, but this replacement drive was easy for even me to install (plug in ) I am very pleased with it.

Recently got this item for my computer build and it works flawlessly. The packaging it came in was very straight forward without any hassles. I have Windows 7 installed on it and have had no problems on it whatsoever. The operating temperatures range from around 26-30 degrees Celsius. This hard drive runs quiet and cool. It is the same speed, capacity and everything else that is advertised. I was a little skeptical because of the price, but this is a great drive.

My first Western Digital drive, that came with my Dell computer, lasted me about 9yrs. It would have lasted longer, if I had my CPU connected to a UPS and protected against power surges and outages. My first HD change out was pretty painless. I just installed the new drive, turned on my computer, and put the OS install disc into my CDROM drive.The drive itself is very quite, and seems to be running flawlessly. I'll update this review if that changes.BTW, those whose who are intested in recovering data from their failed drive should check out: Cables To Go USB 2.0 to IDE or Serial ATA Drive Adapter. That worked, along with fixing my old drives disc via the cmd window. I was finally able to access it, with the drive in a external drive mode.

I'm using it to store my pictures, home hi-def videos also to keep back up of my files.No problems at all but the thing is... It won't work well if you need to use multiple partitions.My advice, use it just to store stuff and get a SSD hard drive to use it as your primary hard disk.

Since my HDD crashed on me. This was the most suitable HDD I found for the price per gig at the time (it was in a special). I bought in August of 2011. Since other people wrote better reviews with about their life history of computer usage in their reviews. Anyways, I installed to on a HP Pavilion Media Center m8034n. No problems there. Reminder don't try to create virtual drive on the disk and accidentally hide it from the bios. I bought it, I'm trilled about it. I recommend buying the bigger gig HDD though. Happy hunting!

Got this drive to replace a smaller drive, I installed this drive only to find out the drive was dead. Amazon had a no return on this drive. I contacted WD and they replaced the drive, but it cost me $13.00 to send the dead drive to them. I installed the replacement and glory and behold the drive is unreadable or writeable. I spent the next several days corresponding with WD on their try this see if that works. Tried about everything check desk won't work because drive is unreadable, formatting won't work there's way too many bad sectors I stopped counting them after 75. I finally got feed up told them I was not spending any more time or money jacking with this drive I just want my money back and I will get another brand. As it sets now I am using the drive as a paper weight that's all its good for. As I see it now either Amazon or WD owes me money, and so far I am just getting the pass the buck routine.

Bought this 500 GB hard drive to replace a smaller hard drive in my PC. Upgraded to Windows 7 and it sucks up lots of memory so this did the trick. It is very fast and worked right out of the box. Simple plug and play.

had this professionally installed into my computer because our old hard drive died. this one works...however it is very loud. My computer will sometimes just cut off since this got installed. Will probably just be buying a new computer as soon as possible.

I have a 320GB caviar blue, that was running low on space so a upgrade was mandatory. For $40 which is actually the same price I got my 320GB from a retail store, this was a great deal. The hardware installation was pretty straight forward and painless. but keep a few things in mind when buying this product as an upgrade or for a build. when they say bare drive they mean bare drive. You get a box, packaged product and that's it. You will need some screws or a way to secure this drive to your case for a build or a housing to make it an external. Also if this is for a secondary drive (as it was for me) I would download the proper software from WD prior to installing this HDD. Windows (I have 7) will recognize the drive as a disc drive and not a Hard disc drive if you don't have the proper software from the get go. So to avoid having a redundant disc listing make sure you have the WD software. Performance seems solid so far, it only has 40GB of game data on it, but transferring over the games was painless and they launch perfectly. There does not seems to be an audible increase in noise seeing as two drive run now instead of just one and heat difference is also negligible and if this drive performs as good as my 320GB, this is another win from Western Digital.

Drive loud, stalls occasionally. Why I bought WD again, I don't know. They get GREAT reviews, but I have never had one as good as a Seagate, or even, Hitachi.Too late to send back.

Good drive, reasonable speed. Using as a backup in a external USB case. MUST be partitioned before use or windows can't see it. There is FREE partitioning software available from several secure download sites. (Majorgeeks{dotcom} is my favorite download site) Once you partition the drive you can format and use it normally. I am using this as a backup with cloning software from WD's website which works very well. Saved my ash just last week. I had switched from ESET to MS Security Essentials (it's free and now I know why) and within three day I got a highjacker. Couldn't do anything, couldn't even reformat the drive! Popped in the just-cloned drive and I'm back in business. (Also went back to ESET right away) BEWARE of FREE security!!!!(IT AIN'T SECURE!!!!)

Got my WD Caviar Blue in a few days ago.I have the SATA 3 500GB one. Use it for gaming mostly.It has been working very good so far. Quiet..problem free..Didn't come packaged for shipping very well for a hard drive but it works fine and I hope it lasts a long time.Overall I am happy with this product and would recommend it. Good value for the money!!

Great Performance!I needed a new HD since my 500gb died on me. So far so good! Super stable and fast. If you are using large files such as movies and stuff remember to use the highest allocation unit size, im using 64kb.

I installed two brand new drives in February. They went into a security camera DVR which essentially records to them constantly on a loop. I usually get 1-2 years out of a set of drives. In early may they failed within a week of each other. I am going to try and RMA them to western digital.

This is a good Hard drive for people who are not very picky. It works fine and is not loud. The best part is as far as im concerned they are reliable! Im still using an old 40 GB Western drive that had been working for 10+ years! They may not be the fastest or best ever but they work and work well!

Bought this drive to replace original iMac 20" (late 2006) internal hard drive (250GB). Install was a bit of a challenge but the drive worked out of the gate. The first time the wife used the iMac after the swap she thought something was wrong with it. This drive is quite a bit noisier than the original, which you really couldn't hear at all. It doesn't bother me because I actually like the audible feedback that the drive is working so I know what the computer is doing. And it is not THAT loud. Part of the problem is that the iMac is right there in front of your face, not down on the ground like a PC desktop would be. This drive is noticeably faster than the original as well (32MB cache vs 8MB). Overall I am pleased and would do it again.

Western Digital brand Hard drives have proven to be the most reliable brand in the time I have been building and upgrading computers. That has been over 18 years. Our experience finds they have the lowest failure rate of the 5-6 different major brands I have installed or have had to replace.

I bought this drive earlier this month and glad that I did. Was looking at another well known brand, but went with this one because of the GREAT price and free shipping. Have used several of the 500 GB AAKX version, and are still running with no problems. Overall, a quiet drive. I do hear disk activity, but nothing to audible or annoying. Will continue to use WD drives!

This HDD is terribly loud compared to other HDD I have had, I used to have an old 120GB Samsung that was far better, then I just bought a 2TB Samsung and it is also more silent by far.Regarding performance it has done it well but it's been just 3 months since I got it, about reliability I won't make good reputation to WD because my other WD myBook failed after 2 years of use and I don't have high hope with this one, I don't know why I bought WD it in the first place, I guess it was for the price but if possible just add another 20bugs and buy Samsung or Seagate, you won't regret it, I bought WD and I am now afraid I will lost data in a couple of years.My Rig:ASUS P8Z68-V PRO Motherboard.Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHzCorsair Vengeance Blu 8 GB PC3-12800 1600mHz DDR3Case Coller Master Storm Enforcer.Corsair Enthusiast Series 750-WattCrucial 64 GB m4olid State DriveWestern Digital 1 TB Caviar Blue SATA III 7200 RPM (not a good choice)Spinq Vt Cpu Cooler Spinq Vt Cpu CoolerASUS VH238H 23-Inch LED Monitor

I ordered two of these drives: one to host my operating system (OS) and one as a back up drive. The one I was using for back up at first initialized and formatted correctly, but then the OS wouldn't recognize it anymore or allow the partition to be deleted and reformatted. I received a replacement for it from Amazon and it is working fine. Luckily I hadn't transferred any data to the drive while it was working because then I wouldn't have been able to wipe the drive prior to returning it.I have no idea what was wrong with the one I returned, but I can only chalk it up to bad luck. In all my research before buying this drive, it seems like every manufacturer has problems, depending on what reviews you read, so I can't say it's an inherent problem with Western Digital.The best part of the whole affair was Amazon's customer service. It was extremely easy to request a return, get a pre-paid shipping label, then ship it back. Amazon even shipped the replacement before I shipped the bad drive back, and at no extra charge.

I purchased the Western Digital 1 Tb Sata 6.0 Gb-s 32 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare-oem Drive WD10EALX from Midwest Memory Outlet through Amazon. The drive was received within 3 or 4 days and was packaged extremely well. My original Seagate drive from my HP m9550F failed and was replace by the WD. The Seagate was the drive that HP kept shipping after a drive bios error was long known about. Information from the internet showed that lots of people lost valuable data because HP just kept shipping a drive with a known problem. Anyhow, I did get a bios update for the Seagate before it failed but it ended up failing anyhow.The WD10EALX drive is fairly loud. I still have the drive located outside the case so that may contribute to the sound level. The noise seems to be from the head movement. The platter spin is silent. For the price this is one drive that is hard to beat and I am well pleased with it. My bios can't take advantage of the 6 Gb/s transfer rate but the drive is plenty fast just the same. I have loaded around 600 gig of data onto it. After around 3 weeks I'll assume it will not fail and put the case back together. If it fails I'll update this review. I noticed on NewEgg that a few failures were being reported. Not the long-term ones but the more likely out of the box ones. Here's keeping my fingers crossed. (Boot drive failures are a pain).UPDATE:OK. I put the case back together. The drive is not silent but it is pretty quiet. I can hear just faint clicks as it does its thing. Very nice. No problems with the drive at all. Recommended.

Built the computer, installed the WD 1 TB Cavair hard drive with no problems. The drive is working fine. The price was right and I am happy with it. I also have a External WD 1 TB hard drive. Never hard a problem with it either. Received the Internal hard drive with in 5 days after ordering. Great.
