I've had very good experiences with them over the years. This is my 3rd PC build and I was replacing a 4 year old seagate that I originally built the system with. Installation was as difficult as falling off a log, once it was booted up with Win7 no problems. Quiet, good speeds - looking forward to many years of reliable service from it. Glad to see the price on a 1TB drive dropped a little recently to a better price point for me.

it is working perfectly as most of other Western digital hard drives. But the SATA 3.0 feature didn't give it a speed boost as it is mechanical hard drive after all. In all, it is functioning very well and has no glitch.GOOD PRODUCT!

I ordered the 1st one about a week ago, and after a week, it died on me. INSANE loading times to start windows followed by the BSOD, and then finally it just stopped showing up in the BIOS. Returned and got 2nd one today. Much faster than first, but just as loud when playing games. Other than that, no complaints. I just hope this one doesn't brake.

I know the price of hard drives has come down a lot, but this price was great for the capacity I got. It even worked with an IDE/SATA adapter installed. I got it really quickly, too. Smooth sailing!

I have never purchased a drive that did not come with a connecting cable before. I guess there is always a first time for everything. Now that I have gone back and searched for the word "cable," deep into the description I found the disclaimer "Bare drive does not include any cables or mounting hardware." Caveat Emptor, even from Amazon.I will over come this, but now my one week resolution to replace a bad drive will take two weeks. I am not pleased. I threw out my last cable with the drive figuring a new one will arrive with the purchase, which is a normal expectation. If this were someone buying a second hard drive for a new machine, they would have to go out and buy a cable go along with it. This kills any price savings on the drive and shipping that you might get from Amazon.

With only 500 GB - it's a nice little Western Digital Sata on the side bar with the other major drives to use inside of your OS Sys. Runs smooth and quietly, CPU / GPU runs fast at start but, it makes a great storage for those "infrequently used programs or simple games" - for over the due time I've observed the resources go up, just to a moderate range; neither good or bad - just right down in the middle. But still for this price it is a bargain and you can have those Programs or Games on the "sidebar" without having them on the main drives. I recommend this!

My original sata drive that was 160GB stopped working. I tried to reformat it on a working computer but it would not recognize. So I bought this drive as a replacement and that price was appealing, relatively cheap for what size I was use to. So now everything works fine I do not notice any transfer speed issues and am glad that this worked for a quick and easy repair. Oh yeah, some people were talking about it being loud, its completely whisper quite.

So far it's been only a couple days, but I love this thing. I replaced my old 70GB on my Dell Optiplex tower I got free from work, and usable space is about 300 on the drive itself.The WD 320 is definatly quieter than my old HD, and at 7200 RPM it's fast. I've noticed the speed difference between this and my old HD for sure. It was SATA and very easy to plug in. I bought the bare drive, but my tower already had connections ready for it. I just had to pick up a SATA cable to connect it to my MB (3 bucks at my local PC repair shop)Shipping was fast as usual with Amazon-stocked items. Plus, I live 30 minutes away from my local Amazon warehouse.So far so good! Lots of space left, fast and easy to mirror my old HD to my new one. Took about 10 minutes with free software you download from the Western Digital website. Now my old HD is my backup/spare.

Product was easy to install and backup image to drive. It is as quiet as the original drive I replaced and since I installed it no problems have been encountered. Would recommend this drive to other users.

My desktop hard drive failed, and I needed to find a quick replacement. I've had good experiences with Western digital and have made a habit of buying WD hd's. This one seems to be another great choice. It's quiet, plenty fast, and was an amazing price.

I bought this drive and copied over my installation from my old drive. Pretty soon, I noticed that my computer was running very slowly. I found out that this drive was getting speeds as low as 1 mb/s. So, I returned it to Amazon, got a new one, and had the same problem. On both drives, I tried re-installing Windows, and I ran error scans and defragged. Western Digital's customer service was no help at all. Also, it can't be my motherboard's SATA controller because my old Maxtor drive still gets normal speeds. Normally, I wouldn't give a bad review for a defective product, but considering that I got it replaced and the same problem occurred, there is no excuse. Western Digital sucks, go with another brand.

Bought a computer at the good will that didn't have a hard drive. Got this hard drive from amazon and plugged it right in and works flawlessly. It isn't a full 1TB but very close, that's a given with most hard drives though. Buy this from amazon very fast shipping and easy product to use and install.

I got this last month for storage usage and it's been running very good.It is very quiet! I was first going to get the Caviar Black but I see so many reviews about it saying that it is very loud... so instead I got the Blue and its amazing.I use this to store games (I have OS on my SSD). It's pretty fast loading up games and I never crashed yet.So if you're looking for a HDD, I would recommend this! Even for you gamers out there that want to store games! It's quiet and fast and a lil cheaper than the Black!

great drive and had no problems with the install. loaded up . booted up. windows installed but the motherboard would not install windows for driver issues. will have to change motherboard. otherwise everything checks out ok. thanks amazon.

The main hard drive on my PC crashed. I had already purchased one of these and installed it as a backup drive in my PC using Microsoft backup. My main hard drive failed after 2 years. I placed the order and the new one in my hands w\in less than 24 hours with free Prime shipping.. Installed in my PC and did a system restore. SO less than 24 hours after the crash I'm back in business for $69. Thank Amazon, Western Digital, Dell and Microsoft.

Bought this hard drive as my primary for my new computer that I was building. Is very quite and also runs very fast! I ran windows experience index and was able to get a 5.9 which I believe is the best that you can get with a standard hard drive. If you want any better, you're going to have to go with an SSD which can be very expensive. Highly recommended product.

I run drives in a RAID box that has SMART monitoring and I can watch drive performance and degradation over time. I was surprised at how much better the quality of the drive was at first startup with zero reallocated sectors and zero ATA errors, and this has continued over time. I definitely will be replacing the Seagate brand drives with the Western Digital as they have superior quality control at the plant that produces them.

I ordered the OEM version of this drive and it came with just bubble wrap. I believe HD's use to be much cheaper prior to the floods in Thailand, but for under $100, I found this to be a good value. Even though I have over 200 songs, 10,000 pictures, and some games on here, I have barely made a dent. Runs quiet and fast enough for pictures, music, and non online games. I actually have Diablo 3 on this drive and it's really quite fast. Overall a good drive, have had it about a month and no issues whatsoever at this point. Would buy another if I needed the space.

Put this HDD in a budget build and works good. My WEI score booting with this drive is 5.9, not great but the HDD does what it should. This is a great drive for budget build.

I am running Raid 5 configuration and somehow allowed multiple disks to develop unrecoverable errors. Replaced both disk with same hardware, recreated the Raid and recovered system image with no recurring problems. I have used Western Digital disk in various other configurations with excellent success. This is the first time encountering a disk contaminating bug which could not be cleaned up. I will certainly recommend using this disk in configurations ideal for this type of hardware.

Had this for about 6 months now. no issues at all, works just fine. can't ask for more than a product that just works as intended. bought this when i was building a new computer and the one thing i could note is that out of all the parts that i ordered for my computer i think this one had the strongest packaging for protection. would buy this again.

I bought this hard drive on Feburary 7th, 2012. Today is September 23rd, 2012 and it failed 3 days ago. This unexpected failure cost me a full 2 days work, terrible product

I use this hard drive with Linux Mint 13 "Maya" installed. Bootup time with Mate desktop is 25 seconds. Shutdown time is 5 seconds.

I bought the Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB (WD5000AAKX( drive to replace a 320 GB drive that had frozen up in my desktop. The product was inserted and straightaway I could see the difference in performance.It is quiet, fast and very responsive to any task assigned to it. I wanted a drive that was responsive, reliable, had plenty of reserve since my son is a university student and uses the desktop for his many assignments, music, games and online shopping.The WD5000AAKX fitted into my plans exactly and I'm very satisfied with it's performance so far. I endorse and reccommend this drive to anyone seeking a good replacement or an update.

I got this for a new computer build and I am very pleased with it. It only took about 10 minutes to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on it. It boots VERY fast (about 10 seconds from BIOS to login screen)! I am also happy about how quiet this one is. I have heard some large drives like this, and the most of them sound like a coffee machine that's out of water. This one is silent. It was either this or a San Disk SSD, and I am glad I got this. Great price, great shipping, very pleased!

Love Love Amazon.com always made me feel good when there is something wrong with my order, If you bought on amazon and then suddenly stock is gone, they do their best to work out with you or give you Amazon store credit, How's that! Not like tigerdirect and circuitcity, my friend works there, he said those website really plan to actually made price lower by mistake so when you order and then they will email you to cancel the order, the purpose is to keep people visiting their site. Amazon is a different thing they even pay you if they made a mistake sweet!Ok about the review, I got this drive and installed it and format it using DiskPart on dos mode to avoid the automatic system hidden partition, make 2 partition on it one 350gb and 2nd is the remainder of the drive space, my MOBO support 6gbs sata 3, I didn't use raid or achi, I just use the IDE default setting on my MOBO, this thing is like the low end SSD I did a test using HD TUNE PRO. Mine reads in the range of 150-184mbps. Write speed is a little slower 130-150mbps which is a plus because most SSD have 250mbps read speed but write speed is usually 75mpbs, like the one I have on my laptop.As far as I lived my life I will say WESTERN DIGITAL IS THE WORST Customer service I had ever encountered, When you call full of robots answering and took 15-30mins to reach a human being on the line just to tell you we have so many call right now and can you give me your number where we can contact you so we can call you back TOMORROW! I was like REALLY? Tomorrow?! It was 9am in the morning and you will call me back TOMORROW, and he said there's nothing we can do sit at least we are honest!!! Wow SWEET HONEST. LMAO. I called again after 2 hours lol same thing a lady CSR said they will call me TOMORROW, oh well I let go and don't want to waste my time, to end the story short they called me after 2 days when I was in my work, and told me I need to be home so they can help me. WTH never again will I buy another WESTERN DIGITAL PRODUCT thy sucks. But AMAZON has nothing to do with that problem. LOVE AMAZON FREE SHIPPING AND FREE RETURNS.

HD came in a box with nothing else. Had no trouble installing in my new build, connected SATA cable to mother board and connected power. Thats all their was to it, worked immediately, still working. I have had several WD Hard dirves, all have been good.

My WD Caviar Blue died after only four months. I put in a WD Caviar Black in another slot about a year ago that is still working well, so I guess I'll replace the blue with a black. I know these things happen to hard drives, and I am completely backed up, but a four-month lifespan is a disappointment.

I was going to pick up a slower version of this drive from my local Fry's, which usually has decent prices. But after seeing this deal, I decided I had to get it. It arrived quickly, installed easily, and worked flawlessly and quietly. Of course the real rating of a drive is how long it lasts, and my previous experience with Western Digital has been great.

Got great service, as usual from Amazon. Ordered it one day and got it the next for only $21.90. However, I am concerned about the Drive. It makes a noise at start up and at times when it appears that it has to move a large distance. I wish I could describe the noise -but- I can not think of the proper words. It is NOT a grinding sound, more like a stretching sound... like errrrrppppt. I have also had a couple of mishaps on the start up. These required a re-boot. Again, however, I have a dual boot system... and the second one is the latest openSuSE 12.1 release. So further testing and analysis is needed to determine whether -or- not I received a defective drive. Other than that it is great and IF it needs to be replaced I will ask for the same thing ... only a properly working one.

I purchased several of these drives to use as spares for servers that had the previous generation SATA II 3.0 Gb/sec WD3200AAKS drive. Well as luck would have it, I've had some failures of those old ones and went to replace them, only this drive was not recognized by the computer. After a day of digging, turns out there is a buggy Intel SATA II controller out there in many makes and models of computers that does not properly interact with this particular drive, causing the drive to remain at the 6.0 Gb/sec interface speed and the controller at 3.0 Gb/sec; i.e. no communication possible.The fix is to place a jumper across pins 5 and 6 which will force the drive to SATA II speeds and make it show up. Unfortunately it doesn't come with any jumpers, so hopefully you have an old computer lying around you can steal one out of.The same article on WD's site that gave me the fix also said it was possible to perform this fix using a software program they offer called WDSpeed but they refused to give me a copy for some reason and said I had to go buy some jumpers.

I want a large hard drive for my lab computer which I used to store and process a lot of data. I have tried one hard drive before and I have to return it because I am worried about its noise. This product doesn't have this problem and the price is reasonable. There is no delay for the delievery date.

I like this hard drive. I ordered the 500GB version of it. Not really much to say except it gets a 5.9 on the Windows Experience Index. Also it doesn't come with a SATA cable, but then again, my motherboard did.The bottom line is it's a good 500GB SATA III hard drive for the price.

I got complacent and held off on buying a new hard drive to replace the 5-year-old Seagate drive in my machine. It predictably died without warning one fine day.These drives are still selling for a premium, thanks to the flooding in Thailand. Despite the excessive price, it was worth it--quiet and slightly faster than the old Seagate. Most importantly, this above-average quality is backed by WD's good customer service if it goes belly-up during the two-year warranty period.Another thing: Amazon's "frustration-free packaging" works *excellently* with these drives. It's just a simple set of deformable plastic brackets, but they secure the drive SO much better than the bubble wrap that other retailers use with OEM drives. This SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the chance of the drive getting knocked around badly during shipping and suffering fatal damage. Many thanks for doing this right, Amazon. I will probably buy my next drive from you for this reason.
