Great HDD, quiet, large capacity, and it keeps my data safe. Any bumps/dust has no affect on it, and if it failed I'd still be able to get data off of it.10/10 would buy again.

I am very comfortable with the Western Digital brand (my PC has two SATA Western Digital hard drives and I have purchased others as well) so when I decided to increase the size of the #2 drive I naturally leaned toward WD. In addition, I had a problem some years ago with a WD external hard drive that was quickly taken care of under warranty by WD's customer service. So I have had only good experiences with WD equipment. At the time of purchase I believe the price/value for a 1 TB (and larger) was better than the 500GB but I was attempting to keep within a budget so I stuck with the 500GB. This hard drive is currently priced at $39.99, a 1 TB is $60.80, and a 1.5TB is $59.99. So the price/value for drives at 1TB and above seems to be better than smaller drives. The 500GB hard drive works as I expected (no complaints).

My 5 yr old 500Gb drive in my dell started to make ugly noises so it was time to backup my data and get a new drive. I ordered this drive on a Friday, it didn't ship until Sunday (I selected free shipping) but it arrived on the next day - you cannot complain about free and super quick shipping like that.Installation was painless, restoring my old PC image was not. Finally hit on the right plan that involved copying my backup image to the 2nd partition of the new drive (I split the drive into 2 partitions) and restored from that.Drive is much quieter than my old one. I have 1 drive slot free and I am planning on getting another copy of this drive to hold backups of the main drive (USB external drives are too slow). I am even considering getting a third internal drive so that I can have a very clean Win installation test rig.

Had a problem with my #2 HD in that the computer wouldn't recognize it. When booting up the computer, it wanted to stop and ask for a bootable CD. Even though it was the boot drive. Replaced it with the Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB drive and everything is working as it should. Good buy, good price.

Great Product, though it fails to provide a SATA data cable for hook up. Have had no problems and the product was packaged extremely well for transport.

Had my doubts after reading bad reviews but this baby fired right up without a hitch! Installed my OS, went to Best Buy and when I returned, OS installation was finished! Very pleased with this HDD :>

I used it to replace a smaller driver. Did a fresh Vista install. Drive works and I have plenty of room for media files. The drive appears to be fairly quiet. I have had it for about 2 months.

It is against my superstitious mind to write a good review after using a product for one day, so no long story, just an add-on about what I was looking for in other reviews:Holding on to Win XP I was worried about the new format of WD HDs and their compatibility with XP. And with their jungle of HD names and series's I wasn't able to find out. But I had no problems at all so far installing a fresh copy of it onto the new HD including partitioning without any slipstreaming of drivers etc. All you need is SP2 included in your XP install CD, that does the job.Now I don't know if I could tweak a couple of minibittymicroseconds out of it by installing some WD tool or changing blocksizes or whatever - I don't care, it runs fine right now and fast enough for me so never change a running system :o)As for further performance and durability I will update this later...

It was received quickly and installation was a snap. Much faster and larger than my previous hard drive and can take advantage of the 6 Gbs SATA ports on my Sandybridge Motherboard. I have had it for almost a month and have had no performance or technical problems. Overall a very good product, just glad I got it before the flooding of Western Digital Factories.

I just purchased this on 11/22. I received it on 11/23. It was packaged great. I installed and ran KILLDISK, then installed WindowsXP. No problems whatsoever. I bought this to upgrade my old WD80gb drive 5600rpm. I have absolutely no complaints. From purchase to install...GREAT. Oh, I bought this drive for 65.00, on 11/23 it was 99.00. So keep on eye on the price.

Not much to say... working as expected and is very quite. First time using a Caviar Blue. I usually go for the Black (for performance), but the Black is LOUD. Blue is near silent and I love it.

I purchased 5 of the 1TB version of this drive. One drive went into my Windows Home Server, the other four are now a RAID 1+0 array in my PC, connected to and managed by the motherboard's Intel chipset's RAID controller. My PC is on the floor, next to my desk and I don't hear any difference in noise level. I may also have a minor loss of hearing, but still... :)It's hard to believe that I could add 2TB of striped and mirrored storage for less than $300. My first hard drive purchase was in 1987. A 20MB "Hard card" pre-mounted to a RLL controller card for $300. This WD drive is like a device from a sci-fi novel.So, don't hesitate to buy this drive, and get off of my lawn.

New hard drive was very easy to install and has not given any problems. Little problem with getting computer to recognize it but that was because the port needed to be activated in the BIOS.

I have used at least 16 of these drives setting up RAID 5 arrays for clients in my business. Unlike another brand, none of these drives have ever suffered a failure. I only use WD now in Desktops and Servers, and, at least in my experience, they are very reliable. Remember the Seagate 7200.11 firmware debacle? I suffered through numerous problems with that brand, including crashes, data corruption, and outright failure. My advice, go with the WD.

Well, what do you say, its just an internal hard drive. Not the sexiest item in the world, it just needs to do what it needs to do. This is from the "Blue" series, which is faster than the "Green" series (which are cheaper to run), but not as fast as the "Black" or the Velociraptor drives. I suspect I didn't spell that right..oh well)But, it gets the job done, and has been reliable for several months so far. I like Western Digital, they seem to make pretty good drives.

I bought this hard disk as I wanted to add capacity to my desktop. I read a lot of reviews about this and other disks on amazon. I am glad I bought this. It is a quiet hard disk with fast data transfer. Transferring the OS & data from the existing hard disk to this one was a breeze with the Acronis Software from Western Digital. I recommend it.

Not a lot to comment on. I have had this drive a while now. I used this drive to build a new system a while back. It is mostly a gamming system, but I couldn't really justify a solid state drive yet just for games. Anyway this hard drive has been good so far, and has worked flawlessly. I would like maybe a 32mb catch, and so on, but over all it's fast, and reliable. That is all I cared about at the time. When I upgrade this drive it will become a storage drive, so either way I ended up with a good drive and at a good price.

THis is just what they say--"barebones". No installation instructions But it was VERY easy-just plug and play-unhooked the old cables and old drive and reattached/installed new drive. Working Great!

This hard drive is the best mid-range hard drives out there. We run a computer repair shop and THIS is the drive that we always use as a replacement in customers computers.For 500GB, you just can't beat the price. In my 15 years of business I have seen a few hard drive companies come and go, rise and fall. Maxtor was the beast hard drive of all time (until Seagate bought and crushed them). Now, Western Digital holds the best drive, as Maxtor once did.If you are looking for a great all around basic hard drive, then this is for you. If you are looking for speed and performance such as needed with a "gaming rig" then choose Western Digital BLACK series.

I bought this drive to replace an aging EIDE drive on one of my office PCs. Rather than go through the hassle of buying a new PC, I often find it worthwhile to just swap out a hard drive with a larger new one especially if the PC is adequate for whatever its used for. What I found with this drive is that the file access is fast. Applications including Windows seem to load up faster and overall the drive is quiet.The OEM version of this drive has no software. All that needs to be done is to first switch the jumper to SLAVE. Insert the drive into the PC. Download and install (from westerndigital.com) Acronis TrueImage Western Digital Edition and the Data Lifeguard Tools. Both are free. First create a partition on the new drive - I think Acronis will do this for you). Use Acronis to copy everything from your old drive (Drive 1) to the new drive (Drive 2) - the software is super simple. Acronis will copy everything (including the OS and make the new drive boot-able). You may have to reboot the system to complete the disk duplication process. Once the old drive is backed up, Acronis will shut down the system.Remove the old drive. Remove the jumper on the new drive to set it to MASTER. Reconnect the new drive. And boot-up. You should be all set.The entire process of replacing and old drive with a new one takes about 15 minutes.

Seems to work well enough so far, but only time can tell the true endurance of a hard drive.Added to a Linux LVM storage pool, and expanded a filesystem to use it with no problem so far.EDIT: Less than a year later, it crapped out.

I bought three of these HDDs for two different builds and it work fine for the small computer but it is not doing as well as I thought for the other two that I in the large computer. In the large computer I have them set up in Raid 0 and I am not getting the scores I thought I would with it. I will be changing them out soon.

Bought two of these (1TB) to replace the Seagate 120GB HDDs that I had in a D-Link DNS-321 2-Bay Network Attached Storage. The most trouble I had was getting the RAID 1 with all the space on the larger drives.The drives work great and not loud at all. I have the NAS right by my desk and I hardly notice it on, in fact my switch makes more noise that it does.For those interested in doing what I did to upgrade the drives you can check out the links below (not my instructions). I actually did most of the steps using a telnet session to the DNS-321, but you need to at least clone one drive to get to that part.[...][...]

I purchased a 500GB unit since I don't really need much storage. I simply REPLACED my older 160GB Hitachi with this newer 500GB WD drive. Since installation, the average temperature on my multiple-core microprocessor has risen at least 10 degrees Fahrenheit so this drive runs significantly hotter than the Hitachi. In warmer environments, this emission of heat could cause problems. During the day, I find the temperature on the cores rising to ~ 140 degrees F whereas the average temperature was ~ 125 degrees F before replacement of the Hitachi. Naturally, I still recommend this drive, but beware of the heat.

Received in less than a week from Amazon and in excellent condition. Replaced a 160GB 7200 SATA drive in my circa 2006 Dell Dimension E510. Install was very easy and the drive is very quiet. If doing again, I would have checked the WD confirmed that my RAID controller was compatable with the drive before ordering...but it did. While I loaded the WD Acronis utility software (from the WD website) I did not use it to clone my old drive as I was upgrading my OS to Win7, but the backup and recovery features of the software look intriguing. It has only been installed for 2 days now, but so far so good.

The hard drive in my 2006 white iMac died. I decided to purchase this drive to replace it. The process to replace the drive in that iMac was a pain, but the drive itself is working just fine. I haven't noticed any problems and it's been installed for about a month.

I purchased the 320gb version of the cavier blue. It came in a sealed anti static bag and has worked flawlessly since i have had it. Moving from a sata 2 to 3 hard drive i honestly noticed no difference in performance. All that matters is it works. Great buy for any budget build.

The hard drive arrived one day early. It installed in about 10 minutes. Setup in less than 5 minutes and in use within less than 30 minutes. My original sata drive that was 160GB stopped working. I tried to reformat it on a working computer but it would not recognize. So I bought this drive as a replacement and that price was appealing, relatively cheap for what size I was use to. So now everything works fine I do not notice any transfer speed issues and am glad that this worked for a quick and easy repair. Oh yeah, some people were talking about it being loud, its completely whisper quite.

Working as expected without any problems for over a month now. The drive is a bit heavier than expected, and solid. The drive did not show up at first, however i had to make a trip to Windows management tools to have the drive show up. Everything seems well subsequently.

I bought this to hook up via a USB IDE adapter and use as an external drive. I mounted it inside an old hard drive bracket from an old computer. It just doesn't work. When I first started it the drive just makes a clicking noise. Sometimes if it sits there for a while it will crank up or wake up and will work. Even after that if you try to move a large amount of data to the drive it will blow up your operating system. I've already had to do a major chkdsk maintenance on the drive twice. At home it will not hook up to my windows7 machine at all. This drive is a waste of money.Edit: Disk has totally failed after only a few weeks, basically threw my money away :(

The drive came in very quick and is a replacement for my security system that will run 24/7. The price was so reasonable that I couldn't pass it up. So far it hasn't had any problems and hopefully it will last another 3 years. The system recognized it immediately and started recording at the same time.

Bought this hard drive to replace the failing 1.75 year old Seagate hard drive that came with my HP desktop computer. The hard drive is quiet (maybe only SLIGHTLY noisier than my old Seagate hard drive). I have been using the WD hard drive for over 3 weeks now and it works great.

Good HD. Works as advertisied. The only knock on it would be that it should have came with an SATA cable. Most will probably have an extra one, but just be sure you do have one.

I bought this 2 weeks ago to replace the aging drive in my iMac G5, put it in, and it does everything I expect of it. What more can I say? I'm not a techie, and the bottom line is, will it give some years of trouble-free service? Too early to tell, but whoever buys my computer will find out.

Watch, out connector plastic on SATA, bad DESIGN,GOOD product, just bad connector not 360, but 270will brake in that 90 degrees, (DOWN-BRAKE-OFF)...Not good for cramped spaces, easily broken...Harold :o\
