It died after 3 weeks. The company I bought it from did not have another one I had to send it ti the manufacture for replacement more time and moiney lost

After 5 years of using the same desktop, my HDD crashed. Luckily I had backups of everything, slapped this one in, hooked up the cables, and started working perfectly.Not as fast as the SSD drive in my HTPC (of course) but this was actually cheaper than NewEgg when I first looked.Good deal, good drive.

If you are looking for a 7200 RPM magnetic disk-drive this is an affordable and effective drive. If you are looking for speed, move on to a more expensive but less expansive SSD.I would recommend using this as a storage drive while running an SSD.

If you dont need a super high-speed hard drive then these are excellent models. I have several of these units in my kids' PC's and they work flawlessly. Ive never yet gotten a bad one. I use and recommend them to everyone

Works fine. Just put it in a computer that has SATA2 and its very peppy. You'll need your own mounting screws and cables.

Very fast drive. Installed on an HP desktop where it's original drive had crashed. It was easy to install the when accessing the programs, it does it every well. I can't say much on it's durability because its still too soon, yet, I've owned several WD in the past and they have lasted longer than the computer itself.

Bought a few for some surveillance system DVR that I installed and I have no complains of any failing. I definitely recommend these HDD.

Typical fast Amazon service, installation was a snap - literally. I am using as a storage drive, no operating system, so installation was easy, unit runs quite and smooth. Win7Pro formatted to NTFS in a few minutes and that was it.

The drive arrived with no damage and was well packaged. After installing and scanning the drive there were no errors and the drive has been working perfectly since.

I'm routinely using this drive when I encounter computers with 5 year or older drives. We charge a flat fee of $160 to install and dupe existing drive eliminating the number one cause of data loss and early retirement for computers.

I'm using this HDD as my main drive for Windows 8 64-bit... works fast, zero noise, cool at touch and low price. I wish to compare this vs one with 64MB cache to see what i'm missing... but this one is great.

This SATA drive is a good hard drive for the money. The 500 GB drive is plenty of disk space. It replaced a 160 GB drive. This drive has 7200 RPM and 16 MB Cache, making for faster system boot times, and data transfers. The OEM drive package came with no frills; just the hard drive. Software to clone disk, and disk utilities can be downloaded from Western Digital web site support. I used DriveWire - Universal Hard Drive Adapter and EZ Gig IV boot disk to clone my old drive onto the new drive. EZ Gig IV also will create a boot USB drive too! I'm impressed with this drive. It has faster data transfers than my Western Digital PATA 500 GB drive, the 2nd hard drive that is installed for the same computer.

Failed in less than one year. All data lost, not able to pull data off of the drive. seems like a logic board issue, but the drive makes a click click dead sound, and is not mountable.I would not recommend this drive

It's a bare hard drive that arrived quickly from Amazon and well-packaged. I replaced a 500GB WD Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS with this WD Caviar Blue WD10EALX as the primary drive in an HP i7 desktop. This drive and the old WD drive show basically identical CrystalMark results, but it does seem to load programs and boot faster (I restored an image of the old installation to the new disk, so everything else is the same). CrystalMark shows that it outperforms the Green series drives I own by 20-30%.I was looking at the WD Caviar Black drives, and saw some reviews that said they are loud, so I went for this one, which is advertised as quieter and cooler than the Black series and insignificantly slower than a Black. I don't have a Black series to compare to, but the WD10EALX is definitely louder than the 500GB Blue version, and also louder than 1TB and 2TB WD Green drives that I own. It's not LOUD, but it is louder than those other drives. It has the normal disk seek sound which is not annoying, but present in the same way the computer fan noise is present. If you are going for the ultimate in quiet, then this isn't it.If you want to compare this to Seagate, then it is a 300 star product. I used to be a Seagate customer as their price/performance ratio seemed great. I got hosed by Seagate with a 1.5TB drive, the same one that everyone else got hosed on. They offered to recover my data for $900. I told them to stuff it and I only buy WD and other brands now. My plan is to use this drive a year or so and replace with SSD, demoting this one to backup. I'd probably try another brand at this price point if I had to buy another 7200RPM 1TB drive, but I am not disappointed in my purchase, just underwhelmed by the performance. It is advertised as being quiet and fast, but it is not quieter nor faster than the disk it replaces, hence the relatively low rating and minor disappointment.

Bought 3 but only 2 work. Third one appears and works for maybe 20 seconds then starts making weird noises and is removed from the port. Used as external drive connected by SATA cable. The other 2 just sit there and act like disk's like you would expect.Overseas now so to expensive to return.

this is one of my secondary drive and it get's Data pushed and pull off and on it all day long, still working like a champ and when it's time to buy new it will for sure me more WD drives. happy with this drive , glad I bought it.
