Ill make this one short, if you own a ps3 and you want to update your hard drive this is the perfect one for it, it was the easiest thing ever. the only thing you need to do this is this off course, a flash drive and a small phillips screwdriver.. you just visit playstation.com to get the update from them and put it on the jumdrive, then put the new hard drive in the ps3 and plug in the jump drive and itl update, it was that simple, overall 5/5 perfect score

Based on the many other reviews and forum discussions I browsed through, I had a feeling that this would be the drive to get for upgrading my 80GB MGS4 Fat PS3. Installation was a breeze; quite frankly, the hardest part was digging up a screwdriver to properly fit those tiny, super tight screws, but once that was accomplished, the whole process (minus the actual backing up of data, and restoring of data) took me probably less than five minutes. The old drive came out easily, new drive was a perfect fit, and then it was off and running.Data backup and restoration took somewhere around 3.5-4 hours total, although I just let it do its own thing and checked ever so often to make sure it was problem free. I have since played several games on it that involved HDD installs, and some that didn't and have not seen any differences in performance, noise, etc.I was a little worried about some reviews pointing out stuttering xmbs or pauses in games loading data off of the HDD, but haven't noticed it myself. I like to do installs on games where it is an option, dl demos and trailers, as well as rip cds onto my system, so now I can do all these things to my heart's content and not have to worry about filling it up.I am a happy camper ;)

This HD was used to upgrade my OEM 80 GB PS3 Hard Drive. The installation process was quite simple and the PS3 unit performs much better with this Hard Drive than it did with the OEM 80 GB Seagate.The PS3 unit now runs much quiter (which also means that it runs much cooler as the only noise you hear while gaming is the cooling fan) and the Hard Disk read/write speed is exponentially quicker. I would highly recommend this Hard Drive to anyone who owns a non-slimline PS3 as it will greatly increase the performance of your unit (which on the old CECHE01-xx units is a VERY important thing.These PS3 Units do tend to malfunction [YLOD] if they run at warmer temperatures for excessive periods of time]. In addition to providing you with more free space than you will even be able to use during the lifespan of your PS3 unit, the fact that they run much cooler as the space of the Hard Disk is increased is something which is of the utmost importance for PS3 owners who wish to get the longest possible lifespan of their PS3 unit.The Hard Drive arrived very quickly (two full days before the anticipated ship date that I was given) and was secured well in a sealed, anti-static pouch. The pouch was fully secured between two packing sleeves which kept the drive securely elevated so that it would not vibrate or take any blows during the shipping process.The one final recommendation I would like to make to anyone who uses this to upgrade a PS3 is to make sure that you know EXACTLY how well a phillips-head screwdriver should fit a screwhead. I am somebody who has worked in repair for my entire life, so for me this was not an issue. BUT, if you have limited experience in this department then you may wish to consider having a more mechanical acquaintance perform the disk removal and install for you...because if the screws which secure the OEM Hard Drive are stripped to the point of where they may not be removed, than you will have a large problem on your hands which even require you to send your PS3 Unit directly to Sony for a repair which will be more expensive than it should be.

What can I say, except stick to the facts and let you decide. I purchased this drive to replace one in my good friend's Dell Laptop that was experiencing data loss then wouldn't boot, etc. After a total reinstall of Vista, it kept reporting the drive as "Bad, Soon to fail" etc - "Backup your data and replace the drive". Windows Vista and the Western Digital hard drive test software agreed that the original drive was bad, causing the data loss. I purchased (this) replacement drive from Amazon, and received it on June 18, 2010. As of today 09/01/10 I have the laptop back - again it will not boot. This time it will not even spin up the drive. The platter is locked internally. So, about 2 months later, I need another drive, and I am faced with doing the job twice, trying to return this one, or obtain a warranty replacement from WD, and have him endure the down time - and let's face it, from where I stand, this could very likely lead to the possibility of having to do the job a 3rd time! I'm ready to recommend to him we don't even bother - just lick our wounds, choose a different brand and model drive and try our luck with that! I no longer trust this model WD drive (Let's hope it's JUST this model drive...) I would rate it as very, very unreliable.Update 07/25/2011, Knock on wood this replacement drive (3rd one, counting the original) is holding up. The owner of the laptop got fed up and bought his son another, and I ended up with it. The warranty replacement for the only-a-few-weeks-old-one has been working good. Hopefully I have better luck with it than he did.

With all the positive feedbacks for this HD I went ahead and bought it to change my PS3 hard drive. Big mistake. I did not know that other people have had problems with it in the past. If you are playing games off of a disc then it works fine. However, if the games are installed on the hard drive, for example demos, then be prepared for stuttering. Every 5-10 seconds the game will pause for about a second or two, which is really horrible if you are playing an online game. I played Fat Princess with this stuttering and I was slaughtered.I don't know if this product is good in a laptop. I imagine it probably is. But for PS3 owners do not buy this HD. Even though its more expensive get a Toshiba brand HD since that is what the PS3 uses already.

I am using this HD as a backup for Multimedia Items (i.e. music, videos, photos) it was easy to install im running this on a windows 7 64 bit system. i have no issues with this drive other than the read speed (5400RPM). I would not use this drive as a main partition for OS or Program installation drive.

For those of you thinking about upgrading your PS3, this drive is just perfect. Basically for $55 bucks I was able to upgrade my 120GB PS3 Slim to a whopping 500GB hard drive. After looking around for a couple of months Amazon had the best price. Swapping the hard drive in and out is fairly simple and takes maybe around 5 minutes (just youtube it for step-by-step instructions). What takes the longest is the back-up and restore process and depends on how much stuff is already on your original hard drive.

This is the last Western Digital drive I will buy. It lasted 4 months and has now crashed! Thankfully I had a Seagate 2TB external backup working on that computer! Back to Seagate for me and goodbye WD forever!!!

I purchased this drive in order to upgrade the meek 120GB one my old laptop had. I was somewhat wary because of the 5400RPM drive speed, but performance on this is not bad at all. All in all, it's a solid drive at a very good price. WD's Caviar line has received very good reviews from the industry as well as consumers on pages like this one, and I'll join the chorus. It just works. No fuss, no nothing. A drive's main test is reliability over time, which I can't ye gauge, but for the moment consider me a satisfied customer.

Just upgraded my old PS3 original 40GB. I saved my old game data on a flash drive....installed the new drive.....dumped game data back on new drive....DONE! Now I have 400 GB left. The only thing I will warn you about is stripping the screws on the original PS3 hard drive casing. Make sure you have the right sized phillips head screwdriver. If you do strip them, don't panic. I used needle nose pliers to grip the screws and get them started....once they were loose, you can use your hands to turn them. Easier to put them back in. Other than that. This drive RULES! Great price as well. My PS3 fells like new.

I bought this hard drive a while back to upgrade my PS3 and it works perfectly. I do not have an issue with the excessive head parking that I see others complain about. The only issue I had was with the blue screw in the Playstation, which isn't WD's fault. Can't say how it works in a laptop, but if you need some more space on your PS3, this is a price effective way to do so.

I received my WD Caviar Blue 500GB hard drive today to replace a failing Toshiba HD of equivalent specs.I used the free trial edition of Terabyte Image for Windows, combined with Sabrent's SATA to USB with Power Supply cable, to seamlessly clone my old drive to the new drive. (Other reviewers mention using the trial edition of Acronis True Image to achieve this, but as of the 2011 edition, the trial no longer supports disk cloning.)I've never handled an internal hard drive before, but using a No. 1 Philips screwdriver, I easily dismantled my Touchsmart tx2 laptop, located my HD, and removed it. Replacing the HD did require some experimentation (i.e., realizing I had to remove and transfer the case and adapter from the old HD) but happened in quickly, easily, and without disaster.Thus far, the drive has passed all of the tests I've subjected it to and has failed to produce blue screens as my old Toshiba drive loved to do. Windows Performance Information gives the new drive an excellent disk transfer rating of 7.2 out of 7.9 (the same rating my old HD received).I've given the product 4-stars pending a long-term test. I'll return in a few months to report how the drive is functioning. In the meantime, it seems reasonably quiet and cool. Here's to hoping my days of the frequent blue screen have passed!UPDATE: It is now April 2011 and the drive is running flawlessly; it's already out-lasted the drive my laptop came with. I've updated the rating to 5 stars.

This HD is what I am currently using in my MacBook. It is quiet and hasn't made any funny noises. Probably the best investment I made for my MacBook. Thought a great HD the packaging was extremely poor. It was placed in a 2.5 inch plastic holder to hold in place, but was bouncing around in the box the whole duration of shipping. This makes me weary and I make a point to backup. Other than the shipping I have no complaints at all.If you're at all thinking about purchasing this HD, just click "buy." Western Digital has very good HD's. The only issue I've had with them in the past is their actual enclosures.

I selected the 500GB WD drive over the Seagate because of good reviews. I installed it in my Dell Latitude D830 as upgrade to the original 130GB drive. Windows 7 began reporting yesterday that the drive is failing, back up now, and expect to replace it. 19 months is unsatisfactory service life. I have a cloud backup and data is OK fortunately.

Bought this for a Macbook Pro and so far it's been holding out pretty well (1 year) so I decided to buy another one and make it an external hard drive. I highly recommend western digital and the scorpio blue. Speed is not the fastest in the world but you can upgrade to the 7200RPM. Will definitely be buying more of these (possibly the 1TB version)

I bought this hard drive for my PS3 since my older model was a 40GB version and I wanted to upgrade its hard drive to more space. Worked well.However, those who are buying this for PS3, DO NOT USE A BIG SCREWDRIVER TO GET THE SCREWS OUT! Thats exactly what I did to the tray and f***ed it up but after some twisting, I finally got in the hard drive in the PS3. Also out of 500GB, you get about 465GB, and out of that, you will end up with around 400-425GB. Wish PS3 supports 1TB soon.Overall, nice buy!

My 6 year old Toshiba has gotten a new lease on life! With the addition of this hard drive it is now screaming fast and I find myself reaching for it before my newer HP. I am now tempted to upgrade the HP too.

I was Debating this product for quite sometime! I wasn't sure if it would work, if I would regret it, but Im glad I decided to go for it!! Best $55 Ive ever spent on my PS3! I have a 40gb PS3 hAdnt bought a new game in more than 8months due to the lack of memory! Installation was SOO easy, everything was smooth from the packaging to the performance! I love my HARDDRIVE and my NEWLY UPGRADED PS3!

I purchased this hard drive as a replacement for my 80 GB Playstation 3. I had read some negative reviews about the drive not being compatible with the playstation 3 and causing games to "pause" at certain times. I went ahead and purchased the drive, because there were more people that had nothing but good things to say about it.I received the package very quickly! The whole replacement process went pretty quick, the only thing that really took any time was the backing up and restoring of information. I tested the drive as soon as it was installed, and I played a number of games to see if the hard drive would cause the system to pause. It never occurred, and it has been working perfectly since I purchased it!I would definitely recommend this hard drive to anyone looking for an upgrade. Especially for their PS3. I am definitely happy with my larger hard drive. :)

I got this hard drive to replace a failing one on my MacBook. This SATA disk provides an excellent value for the money, is silent and fast. The packaging is good -- but I suppose this depends on who you buy it from -- and the installation is a snap, as most SATA drives these days.As far as operating temperatures go, this one dissipates less heat than other models I've had in the past, for this same laptop.If you're looking for a good-sized drive for your computer, under $100, I would recommend this one.

Hello, I just wanted to say that; If you are considering a new hard drive, I don't see how you could ever do better than this one. I used Apricorn to clone my old drive (OEM 'seagate 120gb') and it did exactly what it was supposed to. This 320gb drive is faster than the old one and does seem to be running cooler. Great price, Great product.I am unable to write one of the 'tech' reviews as I am just an old guy with a laptop. This drive arrived wrapped in 4 full inches (deep) of the good bubble wrap.I opened it up, plugged it into the Apricorn box thing, and cominced to clone my drive. That took something like 50 minutes. Now came the hard part, remove and replace, so I took a deep breath and opened my computer up. The drive replacement was very easy as it was quite obvious what I needed to change over (i.e. the caddy, and the pin adapter). Put the new drive in, cover on and snugged down. I turned the computer on and waa-laa, Windows XP starting up according to instructions by Apricorn.If you are not one of the folks who do this sort of thing all the time and just want to upgrade your laptop, then this is for you. Simple and straight forward. Pay attention to your cloning software, do what it tells you, make sure you don't get carried away with tightening the tiny screws, USE THE CORRECT SIZE PHILLPS HEAD SCREWDRIVER.Good luck and I honestly hope your experience is a good as mine has been so far. I just got my disc in the mail today and I bought ti to upgrade my old 80GB PS3 to something with more room. Super easy install and this disc is damn near bullet proof. If you need more space on anything, I would go this route.

I received the product sooner than promised, and it was simply to install. So far it has worked fine without any of the problems I had with the original hard drive. I think the problems I encountered were from the software that was loaded on my laptop at the factory, not the hard drive. I have no complaints about Amazon or the vendor selling this hard drive.

I'm an IT technician, this hard drive was used to replace a broken one from a mac book 2007, easy to install and no problems reinstalling MAC OS 10.5. My client has been using it for a couple of months now, I havent heard back any problems with the new hard drive.

I bought this disk to replace my old Toshiba disk on my Dell Inspiron 1545, when the Toshiba HDD got toasted. The installation was easy and it performs perfectly. I strongly recomment this HDD.

I puchased this hard drive for my fat 40 gb ps3 model because I really needed space. I definitely got a good deal when I bought around 30 dollars brand new. I think it works about the same speed as the old one, if not faster. But overall, I got plenty of space on my PS3, it still works great, and I will only recommend getting hard drives like this from western digital based on their track record.

Received quickly with excellent packaging. Was used to replace a similar drive so no installation problems. Cannot comment on reliability for this particular drive as it has only recently been placed into service, but WD hard drives have a good record.

I have a 60gb original launch model ps3, and was looking to upgrade the space. This thing works perfectly. Installed in less than 15 minutes, minimal to no noise, and 500 gigs of space is plenty for this price.

I used this in my Macbook Pro to upgrade the stock HD with a larger one. The 1st one I received was DOA (Dead on Arrival). I sent it back and received a 2nd which worked for about 6 months, and just recently died.I bought a 3rd one because I didn't want to wait weeks to deal with the warranty...although I intend to file a claim with Western Digital to see if I can get another drive.Keeping my fingers crossed. I'm wondering if its something with this Macbook Pro that's killing drives. It've also had 2 different external USB 2.0 drives fail while connected to this machine.Last observation...this drive is a good bit louder than the one that came with my Macbook Pro, but still willing to put up with that for the low price as long as it doesn't die again.

I ordered this for a friends laptop he never came and got back from me so i decided to fix it and sell it and the only thing wrong was it needed a new hdd. Bought this and now only a couple of months later the hard drive took a crap and my friend lost everything. I usually always buy WD bought now im having second thoughts.

I bought this to upgrade my existing laptop, which had a much smaller drive. My laptop has a SATA interface and, after doing what I thought was enough research, bought this drive thinking it would just drop in.Unfortunately, the physical connection on this drive is different from the drive I am replacing so I'm unable to use it, which is unfortunate because I opened it before figuring this out. It was my understanding that a SATA II drive would be backward compatible with a SATA interface, but I guess not.My existing drive is a Toshiba MK2552GSX. Would be nice if someone had any advice because I'm coming up with nothing, and don't want to buy another drive only to have the same problem.

Purchased the 320 gb variant as a replacement for a failed MacBook drive. Simple, straight forward exchange of drives, whole process took 5 minutes. Drive works as expected. Having employed Western Digital drives previously across a broad range of applications, expectations are that it provide years of error free service.

I bought this to replace the 250GB Scorpio that came with the Hp dv9999us I bought two years ago. Installation was a breeze, but my computer gave me all kinds of issues getting Ubuntu installed on the new drive. After fighting it between work and sleep for about a week, I got it working great. It's quiet, faster than the original drive(not sure how much faster, but it definitely is), and the price was unbeatable.

Purchased this internal drive on the large number of positive reviews. I have an HP DV9910us 17" laptop which had a western digital SATA 250 GB internal drive which died. I was unable to even get by the initial opening HP screen and said that it did not find the operating system. Fortunately had everything backed up. Thought the new drive with 250 GB more would be great but the pins in the old drive are interlocking with the laptop which is not the case with this new "scorpio blue" drive. As a result I am unable to install this new drive since the pin configuration is not the same. Will return this drive and look for a replacement that is compatable with the HP DV 9900 laptops.
